Guests who buy Genie+ will now have access to special Augmented Reality or AR lenses. You’ll find food, characters and other looks, like snorkeling with Nemo. After buying Genie+, guests can find these lenses in the Disneyland app under “More.” Some are tied to specific locations in the resort and some aren’t available to guests who are under 18. Indiana Jones is going down for refurbishment on November 14. We’re not sure how long or how much is being done. When they arrive sometime this fall, front gate cast members will continue to use the iPhones to scan the MagicBand. Mike Wazowski in a pumpkin costume is the new design for a bottle topper with straw. The topper allows guests to drink from a bottle of soda or water without an open top. The straw allows for the bottle to be held upright as well. Recently, registers were removed from the Emporium and replaced with new merchandise islands. Next spring, the Magic Happens parade will step off through Disneyland once again. No exact date was mentioned, but they did confirm that Magic Bands should be at the resort for guests this fall. The Magic Bands will allow guests to get into the parks, redeem Lightning Lane reservations, open Disney Resort Hotel room doors, buy merchandise, link PhotoPass photos, and more. Some of the flashier features include glowing with the nighttime entertainment and adding the ability to play games in the park. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/09/magicband-features-and-experiences-revealed-for-disneyland-resort-coming-this-fall/ One of the announcements from the D23 Expo last weekend was the new name of the hotel, formerly known as the Paradise Pier Hotel. The Pixar Place Hotel will be the name when the refurbishment is complete. No date on that yet. Eudora’s Chic Boutique featuring Tiana’s Gourmet Secrets opened this week and offers Princess and the Frog themed merchandise, cooking supplies, and Tiana’s own spices and sauces. Imagineers designed the story of the shop to be owned by Tiana’s mother, Eudora. Star View Station will have a mid-century space theme and have areas for seating, device charging, free wi-fi and more. It will be located on the second floor of what is now the Star Wars Launch Bay. The Mickey Pumpkin was installed on Main Street, Carsland is decked out for the holiday, and decor for Oogie Boogie bash can been see too! The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is currently being transformed into Villains Grove however the train is open during the day for guests to enjoy with more decor added nightly. The two new villains coming to Oogie Boogie Bash have their stages set up. Each level of Magic Key will see a price increase from as little as $50, to as much as $200 for the high end key. The Dream Key, which was the top end key when the program started and had no blockout dates has been retired and replaced with a Inspire key, priced at $1599. The game will require the Play Disney Parks app and a MagicBand+. The MagicBand+ will change colors depending on if you are heading in the right direction and change to purple when the bounty is found. The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage has set sail again, taking guests on the voyage under the seas to find Nemo. The attraction has been closed for over two and a half years – since before the COVID shutdown and was planned to come back in the winter of 2021, but was extended until this week. This would add $2 to $4 to each ticket for a one-day, one-park ticket, depending on the season. Shortly after it opened, it broke down for part of the day, before returning to service later in the day. Two military bands were on hand to entertain guests. The California Army National Guard 40th Infantry Division Band from Los Alamitos, CA and the 1st Division Marine Band from Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA, who are renowned for their musical excellence played in the parks July 2nd through 4th. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/07/military-musicians-disneyland-resort-band-together-to-celebrate-independence-day/ Pirates of the Caribbean has returned at Disneyland! The entrance queue that was completely rebuilt looks nearly identical to what was there before. Inside, the attraction has been brought back to its former glory. News: The D23 expo is getting a new, immersive retail experience called the “Expo Marketplace.” The 27,000 foot space will include everything from limited-time merch to the first items celebrating 100 years of Disney. You’ll find pins, t-shirts, hats, books, plush toys and so much more. Some of these spaces will require a virtual queue boarding pass. Disneyland Paris launched a waiting list for Magic Key holders. With the new option, Magic Key holders put themselves on a waiting list for any day that may appear unavailable. Anika Noni Rose, the voice of Tiana from Princess and the Frog, was interviewed on the “Kelly and Ryan” talkshow and made a comment that the Splash Mountain refurbishment had a projected opening of 2024. This is the first time that a solid timefram has been spoken about. Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock met with community leaders recently talking about exciting changes coming to the resort, and this was one of the previously unannounced updates. Disney is rolling out a virtual queue system for guests to use through the Disneyland mobile app to grab a spot for the show. Guests will need to have entered Disney California Adventure on a one-park ticket, or Disneyland on a park hopper ticket to be able to get the reservation in the virtual queue. The virtual queue will open at noon every day the show runs. Guests will receive notifications 45 minutes before the show starts to head to either a blue or yellow gate to enter the seating area. MiceChat speculated one of the options would be back to the Swiss Family Robinson since Disney+ was working on a series based on the classic, but our sources say that series has been put on hold for now. News In an interview with the Orange County Register, Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock made the shocking comment that the phased reopening of the resort is just now at the halfway point. He said that the phased reopening will take at least another year. The resort has rehired or hired 28,000 cast members to bring the current staff to 30,000, 2,000 shy of pre-pandemic levels. This year, there are THREE games in the Eggstraviganza! Each board is $9.99 plus tax, and can be purchased at select merchandise locations around the resort. This included 102 that worked for 40 years at Disneyland, 46 who worked 45 years, and 14 who worked 50 years! Half of the attractions and more than two-dozen Disney, Pixar, and Marvel characters were on hand. For the first time since the attraction opened, Web Slingers will offer a single rider line. The new single rider entrance is located between the stand-by entrance and the Lightning Lane entrance. Walls went up almost two weeks ago and work is underway to remove some of the elevated sections of the walkway to provide for more queuing options for Pirates, and better crowd flow for Fantasmic! News: Last week was the last week for Toontown as we knew it. The entire land has now closed and will reopen sometime next spring with a complete renovation. The week leading up to the closure saw a lot of guests getting in their last visit before it turns into something quite new and refreshed. During a Q&A session at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, & Telecom Conference this week, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Walt Disney Company Christine McCarthy said they should be returning “soon.” She pointed to the decline in Covid cases as a good indicator of the safety of the meet and greets. He states that the pandemic gave the resort an opportunity to rethink things. If they don’t work out, or need adjustments, that is ok, because Disneyland is continuously evolving. Some of the changes will include new furniture, lighting fixtures, draperies, tile work, stained glass and murals inspired by a pair of adorable animal mascots. Raya, from Raya and the Last Dragon will make her debut at Disneyland for the celebration as well. The Lunar New Year runs January 21st through February 13th. Starting March 4th and running through April 26th, the Food and Wine Festival will return. Starting with visits on December 20th, guests who utilize the service can pre-register for the service virtually with a Cast Member. To do this, guests use a live video chat feature as early as 30 days prior to their visit, but no less than 2 days before arrival. Guests can then book up to two one-hour return windows for select experiences, per day in advance. In the future, Disney says that guests enrolled in the system will be able to same-day self-select an attraction, without having to visit with guest relations. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/12/07/guests-can-now-virtually-pre-register-for-disneylands-disability-access-service/ It was great to be able to ride it’s a small world on it’s first day of operation for the holiday season, but it took a lot of work to get it open! The Disney Parks Blog documented the process. The underground maintenance room of the attraction, known as “the pit” flooded on November 10th, while refilling was underway. Almost all of the ride control machinery is in the pit, and was submerged in at least 7 feet of water. Twenty different teams sprung into action to get the attraction working again. They set a timeline of 4 weeks to get it operational again. More than 200,000 gallons of water needed to be pumped out of the pit before teams could even begin to determine the damage. Teams worked to determine what could be cleaned and salvaged, and what needed to be replaced. Many of the spare parts which they could use were stored in the same pit. The team reached out to small world attractions around the world to get the needed parts. They met the goal of under 4 weeks and reopened the attraction on December 6th. The famous Disneyland Resort candy canes will be on sale again at the Candy Palace And Candy Kitchen on Main Street December 7th, 9th, 15th, 21st, and 23rd. In addition, the gingerbread house at the Grand Californian is a site to behold, with treats for sale nearby. The new MagicBand+ will offer “glow with the show” type color changing lights, haptic vibrations, and gesture recognition. The previous features of the MagicBands like theme park tickets, room keys, and purchases will also still be available. This means that the current Starbucks, Earl of Sandwich, and Sugarboo & Co. will again be forced to close for a second time. News: Some major changes are coming to Mickey’s ToonTown in 2023 with the opening of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Josh D’Amaro announced at the IAAPA theme park expo in Orlando that the land would close in March of 2022 to make the changes. The only confirmed information is that there will be a reimagining of the entrance to the land, adding a couple of green spaces for parents and children to relax and play together. The current ToonTown park will expand into CenTOONial Park. It appears that the Jolly Trolley and tracks will be removed and replaced with a new fountain. News: Well, it happened again. The prices to enter Disneyland have increased. The only ticket that has not gone up was the 1 Day, 1 Park tier 1 ticket, which remains at $104. All the other tickets have gone up $5 for the 1 day, 1 park tier 2 ticket to $25 for the park hopper tickets. Parking has also increased from $25 to $30 for theme park standard parking and $15 increases for hotel self park, oversized, and valet parking. Joe Johnson was making his dream of being a cast member come true working at Disneyland on the Storybook Land Canal Boats. He wanted his family to come and visit from Georgia for his first days on stage, but it looked like that would not be able to happen. Joe’s trainers, and other cast members worked with Joe’s father to create some magic and make the visit a reality.
