Carlee Russell calls 911, telling the operator that she sees a toddler walking down the side of an Alabama freeway. When police arrive, there's no toddler and Russell is gone. Her car, however, is still parked along the highway. The door is open and the car is running. Forty-nine hours later, Russell returns home, telling investigators in a brief interview that she was abducted by a man with orange hair and a woman. As the investigation continued, police find some “really strange” internet searches in the hours before she vanished, such as the cutoff age for an AMBER Alert. Now Russell admits via a statement from her lawyer that there was no toddler or abduction. As police continue their investigation of Rex Heuermann's home, reportedly a soundproof room has been found in the 59-year-old suspect’s Massapequa Park basement. A neighbor told the New York Post that cops told him. There is speculation that one of the victims could have been killed in the soundproof room. However police now say there is no soundproof room. Little information has been revealed about the inside of the home, but we know a few of the items that have been removed: a doll in a glass case, and what's being described as torture porn. Investigators are excavating the suspect yard as well as using ground-penetrating radar and cadaver dogs. Dentist Lawrence Rudolph charged with foreign murder and mail fraud. Lawrence Rudolph reportedly made claims on his wife’s life insurance policy totaling nearly $5 million. The policy was initially purchased in 1987 but was updated in 2016, the same year Bianca died. As police continue to gather evidence to prove that New York architect Rex Heuermann is the Long Island Serial Killer, his wife has filed for divorce. Heuermann’s wife, 59-year-old Asa Ellerup, is being represented by attorney Robert Macedonio. The papers were filed in Suffolk County Supreme Court. Heuermann, 59, was arrested last week and charged with three of the four so-called Gilgo 4 murders — four women who were found dead on Gilgo Beach in December 2010, all wrapped in burlap sacks. Investigators have said that Ellerup was out of the country or out of the state when the victims were killed. The murders of four Portland women have now been classified as the work of a serial killer. Detectives have linked the murders to a man granted early release from his sentence. Jesse Lee Calhoun, 38, was granted early release after he joined a group of inmates fighting devastating wildfires. Calhoun had been sentenced to four years in prison for felonies including burglary, unauthorized possession of a stolen vehicle, and injuring a police officer and a police dog as they attempted to arrest him. Calhoun's clemency has been revoked, and he is back behind bars. So far, Calhoun has been named a person of interest, not a suspect in the death of four women whose bodies were found within 100 miles of each other. As police search the basement of accused Long Island serial killed Rex Heuermann's home, more of the architect's real estate portfolio is revealed. We now know that Heuermann has properties in South Caroline and Nevaded, Las Vegas to be precise. A search was also conducted at Heuermann's brother's Chester County home. Police were seen removing several boxes from Heuermann’s Massapequa Park residence. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney says that Heuermann was on the LISK task force radar since last year. Investigators also say Heuermann "continued to patronize sex workers." Police have arrested a prominent New York architect in connection with the Gilgo Beach serial killings. Rex Heuerman,59, is charged in the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. The women's remains were found along Gilgo Beach in Long Island within 500 feet of each other. However, investigators have found a total of six other women, a man, and a toddler deceased on the beach, totaling eleven bodies. The four murder victims dubbed the Gilgo Four, were found wrapped in burlap. Heuermann, who claims he is innocent, is charged so far with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder. More charges are expected. Surveillance photos show the mother of teen murder suspect Aiden Fucci washing his clothes the day teen girl Tristyn Bailey was murdered. Crystal Smith was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence in connection to the girl's death -year-old's death. Fucci, 14, has been charged with Bailey’s Mother’s Day murder. Investigators believe he stabbed Bailey 114 times. The former classmates had grown up in the same neighborhood but it does not appear that Fucci targeted Bailey specifically, though friends later said Fucci claimed he would kill someone in the near future. Surveillance video appears to show the pair walking together early the morning of May 9. Fucci is later seen running, alone, from the same area. Teen Aiden Fucci pled guilty to Tristen Bailey's murder. Crystal Lane Bailey pleaded no contest to tampering with evidence. She was sentenced to 30 days and has now been released. Leslie Van Houten was 19 years old when she and other followers of Charles Manson brutally killed Leno and Rosemary LaBianca inside their Los Angeles home. Leno LaBianca had been stabbed 12 times with a knife and seven times with a carving fork. The fork stuck in his abdomen, and a kitchen knife in his throat. The word “war” had also been carved into his abdomen. Mrs. LaBianca had a total of 41 stab wounds on the front and back of her body. Now after 53 years in custody, the convicted killer is free. Saturday night: Amber Spradlin finishes her shift at the Brickhouse Restaurant in Prestonsburg. She leaves the restaurant with friends, Roy Kidd, and Dr. Mike McKinney. Dr. McKinney is a well-known dentist and also happens to be the owner of the Brickhouse Restaurant. They first head over to the Seasons Inn. A little while later, the trio decides to leave the inn. In the early morning hours of Sunday, they end up at the home of Dr. McKinney. Just a few hours later, 911 is called, twice. Amber Spradlin has been stabbed eleven times in the head, neck and throat. A Georgia man heads outside to confront a trio of teens egging a home, but he ends up dead. Police are calling the shooting the result of an ongoing "lover's quarrel." Sydney Maughon and Jeremy Munson, both 18, and 19-year-old McKenzie Davenport go to the home where Jonathan Gilbert is staying, planning to egg the home. Jonathan Gilbert comes outside to confront the trio, who run back to their car and speed off. Gilbert continues after the car when Maughon grabbed a gun from the car and shot Gilbert multiple times. He was left dead in the middle of the road. A witness gave investigators information linking the victim and the suspects. A road trip to a family dinner leaves two people dead and four others injured. Aura De La Cruz Calderon de Tobar, 74, and Yeshua Elijah Cordova Tobar, 5, were riding in the backseat when a white Honda Accord crossed multiple lanes and struck their car head-on. A 7-year-old girl drowns in a hotel pool while her mother drinks in the hotel bar. Katlyn Pineda was found lifeless in the Marriott Melville Long Island pool last year. She remained in a coma on a ventilator and feeding tube for a year, until she died on May 1, 2023. Mom Erica Baez, 41, told investigators the girl had been alone for five minutes. The girl had actually been alone for at least half an hour while Baez ate and drank in the hotel bar. Baez then checked on the girl and went upstairs to check on her 5-month-old son, also left alone. She then went back to the bar. Prosecutors say after another 30 minutes, Baez found Katlyn in the water. Hotel staff say Baez was told that there was no lifeguard on duty and that she was required to be with her daughter. The little girl suffered “irreversible” brain damage from lack of oxygen. After being in a long-term care facility in New Jersey for a year, she died. A Manhattan corporate attorney is accused of serial rape and arrested in New Jersey. Matthew Nilo, 35, is charged with sexually assaulting four women 15 years ago. The first victim reported being abducted at gunpoint, driven to Terminal Street in Charleston, and raped. A fourth woman was attacked while she was jogging. Investigators turned to forensic investigative genealogy, and after identifying Nilo as a person of interest, he was placed under surveillance. FBI agents obtain eating utensils and drinking glasses Niko used at a corporate event. A DNA profile, which matched the rape suspect, was obtained from one of the glasses. Nilo has pleaded not guilty. The search for Ricky Griffis began two days after his last contact with his mother. When Alice Mabe texted her 46-year-old son, asking if he was coming home that night, he said "no." He didn’t come home the next night either. And then he didn’t show up for work. Griffis was seen leaving an acquaintance’s place of business on July 5th. Several texts were exchanged with the acquaintance. The next day his car was found near the Coopersville strip mines. The likelihood of the DNA found on a knife sheath found inside the Idaho student murder house being someone other that Bryan Kohberger is astronomical. An STR (short tandem repeat) analysis shows the suspect's DNA is a “statistical match.” Documents state “the STR profile is at least 5.37 octillion times more likely to be seen if (the) Defendant is the source than if an unrelated individual randomly selected from the general population is the source.” An octillion is equal to a number followed by 27 zeros. Accused killer Richard Allen has confessed, according to recently-released court documents. Allen made a phone call to his wife and in that call, admitted several times that he killed Libby German and Abby Williams. Allen's wife abruptly hangs up the phone. All calls from jail are recorded. Allen's attorney says the admissions were caused by Allen's decline in his mental health, which prompted the attorney to ask for Allen to be moved to another jail. The judge has not ruled on the move yet. We also know that the girls' injuries were caused by a sharp object. Some articles of clothing from the girls were missing from the scene, including a pair of underwear and a sock. Most of the girls' clothing was found south of the girls' bodies. A terrifying find by a Texas man cutting grass: a suitcase with baby clothes, pampers, and the remains of a little girl, inside. Forensic testing identifies the girl as a 2 to 5-year-old. The tot's body is underdeveloped, and medical supplies with the body indicated she suffered from a serious medical condition. The remains were recovered in Texas, but pollen found on the belongings points to somewhere further west. The hope is that the pollen, medical equipment and sketches will help unravel who she is and what happened to her.
