There is a misconception that says, "If God called me to start a business or ministry, then I will not lack anything." Well, this is not quite true. As you are on your entrepreneurial journey, God may lead you through periods of financial lack. Now, He is not causing the lack, but the road to your calling may be paved with financial lack. In May, stay-at-home restrictions are going to be released in many states and cities. However, churches are going to act in one of two ways. Some Pastors will keep their churches closed while others will open up immediately. Here's what might happen (if we are not careful): Christians will call those who decide to stay home faithless, and those Christians who stay home will call those who go to church reckless. The results we reap are a direct product of the thoughts we think. Our minds are the engines that drive our success; therefore, we have to intentionally program how we think. If we allow worldly thinking to program our minds, then we will reap success mired with sorrows and pain. If our minds have a mixture of worldly and godly programming, then we will be unsuccessful and frustrated. Most times when we don't achieve our goals it's because we set those goals without input from God. Setting a goal without a word from God equals trying to throw a rock at the moon. Christian entrepreneurs worldwide are trying to "figure out" how to succeed in their calling. However, figuring it out is stressing many of us out. Why? Because God has not called us to make success happen, but to receive success in our calling. God speaks to us mainly through His written word. However, He is also in the business of giving us dreams and/or visions as part of our toolkit for direction for our entrepreneurial calling. A simple distinction I use between them is that dreams happen when you are asleep and visions happen when you are awake. One of the main things this pandemic has caused is fear. People are afraid to be in close proximity to other human beings. While social distancing is a tool to help combat the pandemic, after the pandemic is over the experience of social distancing will leave most of the human population scarred with fear. This embedded fear in people's souls will keep many inside even when it is safe to travel, and those who do venture out will do so tentatively with a deep remnant of fear, keeping wary of other humans. To succeed in the calling God has given us, we must combat the fear that is and will be felt by many. There is a lot of talk online about how businesses and ministries need to pivot to adjust to the current crisis we are overcoming. In general this is good advice, but it is absolutely the wrong advice if you don't have an unction from Holy Spirit to pivot. As believers we don't allow circumstances to dictate our calling. When I was younger, I believed that if I had enough faith, I would be invincible from all problems. However, as I got older and learned more about the Bible, I discovered that it is not quite like that. While having faith does overcomes all problems, faith does not make me invincible like superman. After a few weeks of quarantines, serious disagreements between governments and churches and contentions within the Christian community have emerged. Some are strongly in agreement with the current attempts at reducing the pandemic through quarantines, while others feel that it is overreaching. Christians who don't follow social distancing and mask wearing are calling Christians who do faithless. Christians who follow social distancing are calling Christians who don't disrespectful and dangerous. With all the name-calling and disagreements, I am pondering the question, "Would Jesus follow quarantine rules?" Jesus' calling was to die on the cross, go to hell, and be raised up so we could be saved. We often assume that this was easy to do because, after all, Jesus is the son of God. However, this is far from the truth. Jesus walked the earth as a man and had to overcome stress and fear (just like the rest of us) to fulfill his calling. The vision that God has given to you requires faith to achieve. However, if you have people in your circle of influence who are casting doubt over your vision, either in words or actions, their unbelief will contaminate your faith. When this happens, your once strong faith becomes ineffective and your vision fails. You need to remove unbelieving people from your circle of influence in order to avoid this scenario, so you can achieve success in your vision and receive all the things for which you are believing in God for. The word God spoke to my heart for 2020 was clarity. In particular, that those of us who implement their calling in clarity would experience unprecedented levels of success. However, in the midst of 2020 a global economic shutdown has occurred, so does that mean the word for this year is wrong? No. In fact, the global crisis is acting like a purifier that is clarifying (if we allow it) our callings to the core, which will produce callings that are sweet offerings to the Lord that are positioned for acceleration. It may seem like you have been working endlessly to accomplish your vision with little to no success. But whatever God has called you to do, it has a due season for success. I'm sitting on the back porch tonight and felt led to record a faith chat. What is on my heart is to encourage you to not let this global shutdown crush your vision. Yes, for some, the vision may have to pause for a moment, but it's just a pause — nothing else. For others, your vision needs to continue functioning during the shutdown. As you are implementing the calling God has given you, unfortunately bad situations will occur along your journey. However, when a bad situation happens, don't focus on why it happened, instead just ask God to fix it and keep pressing until you receive victory. Asking why is a waste of energy and time, and usually doesn't yield satisfactory answers. There is a peace in not focusing on the bad, but continually pressing toward good. Finding solutions to problems such as a global health crisis is not faith versus science, rather it is faith guiding science. Faith is not "see it then believe it." Instead, it is "believe it then see it." Faith brings your desires into the present. Faith doesn't stop working just because our calling is challenged by a world crisis. Faith doesn't believe in facts. Faith changes facts. Faith dictates your calling, not the facts of circumstances. Think about the time when you were in high school. In order to advance to the next grade, you had to pass some tests. In the same way, to advance to the next level in your vision, God is going to give you a test first. God has many powerful promises in His word, like living without debt, in perfect health, and lacking nothing. These promises are accessed through our faith, but let's face it: Our faith may come up short. However, don't get in condemnation, because the promises of God are not all or nothing. God meets us at our current level of faith, so we can walk partially in His promises until we develop our faith to walk fully in them. Receive what your faith can receive now. Your way is any way that is planned and implemented without the counsel of God. Most times you have good intentions, because you are walking in God's calling for your life, so it seems like you are in God's will. However, no matter how great your intentions, your way can lead to unnecessary delays and collateral damage to your marriage, friendships, followers, finances, and/or health. I had a strong leading from God in my spirit to explore with you the question of "How do we know who is prophesying correctly?" Why? Because in times of crisis, many people rise up and declare "what thus saith the Lord is." If you just casually glance at social media, this is not too hard to find (especially since everyone is preaching online these days). One prophet says this. Yet another says that. And what they say is contradicting. We know God is not the author of confusion, so someone is wrong. Unfortunately, as we are living life and working on our callings, we will experience trying situations. It is very tempting in times of crisis to give away your products and services for free. It has been about two weeks since economies in many countries came to a near standstill. Because this is so unprecedented, it has caused many people to be fearful. When we mix God's will with our own we are headed toward an eventual failure. Unfortunately it is very easy to taint God's will and not even realize it. However, when we do realize it, we need to get back on track even if we've spent a lot of money going down a tainted path. Don't allow the fact that you spent money going in a wrong direction cause you to stress about changing directions because God loves you so much that He will restore whatever you spent going down the wrong path. Our world is experiencing a major crisis that is creating fear, confusion, and economic loss among many people. However, could this crisis be a much needed wake-up call for you that actually pushes you toward the calling God has for you? God doesn't create crises to show us our visions, but a crisis could help us refocus our calling and reveals to us what we already knew to be true about our calling. The current global crisis has caused many organizations, including churches, to pause in-person gatherings. This has caused many (if not all) local churches to move their services and ministries online during this temporary session, which has forced pastors to enter a new era of "pastoring at a distance." Well, I have been pastoring at distance for the past six years, and the Holy Spirit has led me to share some of my experience to help local pastors make this transition. Trouble is not something God sends our way. In fact, God has many ways to protect us when trouble comes our way. Some ways are supernatural and others are subtle. If God called you to do it, then a pandemic can't stop your calling. Yes, the calling may come under attack or have temporary setbacks, but it cannot be stopped. However, if what you are doing is not from God, then a pandemic or any other trials will crush your efforts. Fear is contagious among non-believers because they don't have the antibodies to fight it, which is hope. However, as believers if we are not careful we can catch the fear virus if we give up our hope. The Bible instructs us not to fear like those who have no hope. As an entrepreneur, your biggest asset is your focus. Consistent focus over a significant period of time will bring success. However, if you lose your focus, then success is slow or may never come at all. The biggest enemy to focus is fear. Fear will cause you to lose focus and thus, cause you to fail at your calling. Fear is a dangerous mindset that creates a future you don't want. It's a future of failure, frustrations, and unachieved goals because fear robs you of the faith required to succeed in life and business. For Satan to destroy our finances, relationships, and calling, we first must give him access to our life. We grant him access by allowing fear into our lives, which binds our spirit. When our spirit is bound, Satan gains access and destroys our lives. Fear is a dangerous force that we need to kick out. The most deadly thing about a virus spreading across the world is fear. Fear is a tool of Satan designed to destroy believers and non-believers alike. Therefore, in times of great distress our mission is to stop the growth of fear in our hearts. We stop fear's growth by cutting off its food source, which is repetition. With many public and private events being cancelled, pressure has been put on churches to close as well. Some churches are closing this Sunday and others are not. This unprecedented situation has caused many believers to question their faith. They are wondering, is it a lack of faith to miss church because of coronavirus? As you work on the vision God has given you, you will periodically experience some tough situations that may cause you to wonder if God has called you to do something else. In those times, it is important to get reconfirmation from God about your vision. It is not a sin (or lack of faith) to ask again. God gave you a vision to be in your own business or ministry full time. However, in the meantime, what do you do until the vision fully manifests? Is it a lack of faith to do something else while you wait for manifestation? Or maybe you should use your faith to jump directly into the vision? For various reasons, the time may not be right for you to receive the fullness of the vision God has given you. Therefore, God needs you to be patient, but He has not left you hanging. No one executes the vision God has given them perfectly. We all make minor and major mistakes that throw our vision off track, which creates a crooked path. However, no matter what mistakes we make — big or small — if we keep our trust in God, he will make our crooked path straight and help us accomplish our vision successfully. With the outbreak of coronavirus and constant media coverage of it, the world has entered a state of fear that is paralyzing many people. As believers we don't have to participate in the fear.
