The Chelsea Fancast Archive - "Chelsea FanCast v The Press"

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast’s from the past. This week's episode is Chelsea FanCast #226On this week’s Classic Chelsea FanCast we repeat the show originally recorded on 4th December 2012 where Stamford Chidge invited some of the leading Football Journalists to debate the press coverage of Chelsea FC and the Fans. Think the ASBO lovechild of ‘Question Time’ meets ‘Sunday Supplement’! ‘Stamford’ Chidge presented the show and assumed the 'David Dimbleby' role, and asked questions sent in by Chelsea fans from all over the world.Martin Lipton, Chief Football Writer at the Mirror; Neil Ashton, the Daily Mail’s Football News Correspondent; Rob Shepherd, football writer formerly at Today; the Daily Express and the News of the World and Dan Levene, Chelsea FC writer for the Fulham Chronicle were on the panel. There were many issues on the agenda at the time...Chelsea fans believed that both they and the club were getting unfair treatment from the press. Whilst elements of this were clearly justified, the intensity and volume of these attacks led us to believe that it was driven by an agenda. However, the show was not a hatchet job on the Press led by Chelsea attack dogs. During the show we discussed issues such as the relationship between the press, club, players and fans; the impact of social media; the negativity surrounding Chelsea; Terry-gate; Clattenburg-gate and Di Matteo & Benitez.Recorded in Putney Station in front of a live audience, it was a unique opportunity for Chelsea fans to explain how they feel and get a response from the Press as to what is really going on and why. Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio 28/06/2019

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio – the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Johnny Burrow and Stamford Chidge are joined by special guest, Tim Rolls, author of 'Diamonds, Dynamos and Devils'; former Chairman of the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust; writer for cfcuk and Chelsea regular since 1967 to discuss his new book: 'Stamford Bridge Is Falling Down'.Rounding up the latest Chelsea news, with Chelsea rumoured to be signing Kovacic, does it make sense in the light of the transfer ban? Will a new manager get the best out of the Croatian international and former Real Madrid player?Talking new managers, the wait for Frank Lampard's appointment to be made official seems interminable. If, as expected, an agreement is concluded next week, which back room staff will Lampard bring with him from Derby. Is he the right man at the right time for Chelsea? Will his appointment go a long way to healing the rift between the supporters and the club? And with many pundits in the media claiming that the supporters will turn on Frank if he does not deliver the success they have become used to and now expect, Tim and Chidge set matters straight and explain why Lampard will get unequivocal and wholehearted support from the match going fans no matter what happens.Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron!Tim Rolls discusses his forthcoming book 'Stamford Bridge Is Falling Down' which explores the causes of the decline which saw Chelsea win the European Cup Winners Cup against Real Madrid in 1971 only to be relegated from Division One in 1975. Tim delves in to an era when the great 'Kings of the Kings Road' side started to break up with star players such as Peter Osgood and Alan Hudson being sold after falling out with manager Dave Sexton. With the club bankrupted by the ambitious redevelopment plans, no money was available to rebuild the team with quality players and the club's very future was threatened.Tim discussed the idea behind the book and explains how Chelsea went from Euro Cup winners to relegation in four years, highlighting the key characters and stories involved. But are there parallels with modern Chelsea?Tim is crowdfunding a hardback version of the book, including 24 photos, an index and a slip cover through Kickstarter. A single copy for the UK costs £25 (including p&p) - prices for one or two signed copies, and for different parts of the world, are listed at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/timrolls/hardback-of-stamford-bridge-is-falling-down Backers will also get their names listed in the book. In this weeks 'Legend of the week' sponsored by Classic Football Shirts, we choose Peter Osgood, one of Chelsea's greatest players and a character central to Tim's book. Tim and Chidge recall some great memories of Ossie from his playing days and his time with Chelsea before his untimely death in 2006.Chelsea FanCast is broadcast on Love Sport Radio every Friday from 7.00-9.00 pm. The Chelsea Fancast Archive - Paul Canoville "And now you're gonna believe us"?

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast’s from the past.Chelsea FanCast #157On this week’s Classic Chelsea FanCast we repeat the show originally recorded on 5th May 2011 where Paul Canoville was our guest and tells us about his days as a player and fan! Chidge, the Boys and the Benches are joined by 1980’s Chelsea player Paul Canoville, and discuss his playing career including the infamous 4-4 draw against Sheffield Wednesday in 1985.The boys discuss a great weekend which saw the Chels come away with a great win against Spurs, only surpassed by seeing Arsenal doing us a favour and beating the Mancs. All that plus Darren Barker winning his fight to become the European Middleweight champion. What a weekend, and we’re still in it to win it – roll on next weekend! We have a good old natter about the win against Spurs where let’s face it we got a bit of luck from the ref and linesman for a change with the first goal and possibly the second. But Sp*rs fans, if you only manage to muster one shot on target in the whole match, albeit a great one, then you can hardly complain! As always we award our Man and Chant of the Match and Guinness and Celery moments from the games, in the ‘Fannies’. We also discuss our nomination for Best Club Podcast in the EPL Talk awards. But even more important than all of that, this week we are joined by a very very special guest in the form of Mr Paul Canoville, Chelsea’s first black player, hero of the infamous 4:4 draw against Sheffield Wednesday in 1985 and all round incredible bloke. We talk to Paul about his Chelsea career and memories as well as what he thinks about the current side and turning out for the Chelsea Old Boys, but not until he has faced the music in “60 Second Fan”!All wrapped up by three very ‘80’s flavoured terrace songs in “We’re out to Show the World the Way to Sing”!!!The Chelsea Football FanCast: And now you’re gonna believe us? The Chelsea FanCast Archive - Banter, Biased Opinion, Beer and Jason Cundy!

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast’s from the past.Chelsea FanCast #43On this week’s Classic Chelsea FanCast we repeat the show originally recorded in September 2008 where Jason Cundy was our guest and tells us about his days as a player and fan!Chidge, Martin, Stu and ChelTel are joined by Chelsea Legend – Jason Cundy. Jason completes the longest ever “60 second fan” describing his best goal as the one he scored by leaping like a salmon (a tin of salmon!). We also cast our opinions on the Stoke and Pompey games, welcoming the tactical ability of Big Phil Scolari and Chelsea’s stylish play so far this season. Jason explains why Stevie Clarke had to leave Chelsea, whose hat was in the ring to replace him, and why Ray Wilkins was the ideal appointment.Chel Tel finally gets the inside story on why Jason left Chelsea for Sp*rs in 1992, without admitting that it was he who wrote “Bring Back Cundy!” on the East Stand wall. Jason gives us the low down on what it was like rising from the massed ranks of the Shed End as a supporter to being a fans favourite on the pitch. In “Tales from the Shed”, Chel Tel springs a surprise on Jason by producing a programme from the pre-season game against the mighty Somersham Town in 1987. After 21 years, Jason finally signs the programme! In “You’re on CFFC”, we hear from Chris Larwood who tells us about the struggle to watch Chelsea down under, aided by looking for the Celery nailed to a mates front door!!Banter, biased opinion, beer and Jason Cundy – what else could a true blue wish for?? The Chelsea Fancast Archive - The First Show!

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast's from the past.Tonight's show has not seen the light of day since it was recorded on 28th April 2008. It's the very first Chelsea FanCast hosted by Stamford Chidge, a few months after the shows had been presented by several well known Chelsea supporters (names with held to protect the innocent!).Chidge chose his local bar, Putney Station, to set up shop and he and the boys were to record the FanCast there for another 5 years before they went up town to the Sports Tonight Live studios.Joining Chidge on the first show were Martin Levy (yet to be named Dr Mart) and an old mate of Chidge's Sheridan Bird who is now an accomplished football broadcaster for Italian TV.The show was recorded at, as ever, an interesting time for Chelsea. Avram Grant was the manager having replaced Jose Mourinho in the autumn. Having just beaten Man Utd in the league that weekend to keep a slim chance of a Premier league title alive, he was now about to take Chelsea to Moscow for their first Champions' League final. But a second leg against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge had to be negotiated first... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd join Johnny Burrow to discuss the latest on Chelsea's Transfer Ban; Eden Hazard's departure for Real Madrid and who should replace Maurizio Sarri if the Italian really is off to join Serie A giants Juventus. With the news breaking that Chelsea has appealed their FIFA transfer ban with CAS, we have Football.London's Chelsea correspondent, Oliver Harbord, on the line to explain what it all means. With Maurizio Sarri rumoured to be leaving Chelsea for Juventus, what's holding things up? Will he still go and is haggling with Juventus for £5 million compensation merely repeating last summer’s mistake of disrupting the preparations for next season? Would a quick exit and a quick hire be better for Chelsea?Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron! If he does leave, who will replace Sarri and will it depend on the situation with the transfer ban? Allegri is rumoured to be interested and would signal a return to pragmatic winning at all costs football, but would Frank Lampard and Jody Morris be a more shrewd appointment if Chelsea had to resort to blooding the youth? With the news that the deal for Eden Hazard to leave Chelsea has been done with Real Madrid, has Marina Granovskaia played a blinder in getting £88 million which could rise to £130 million with add ons? And have Chelsea managed to persuade Callum Hudson-Odoi to commit to Chelsea on a 5-year deal, worth £100k per week? Finally, we discuss the extraordinary comments in the press from Alvaro Morata which seem to confirm most Chelsea supporter's opinion that he's just not cut out to be a Chelsea striker.Chelsea FanCast is broadcast on Love Sport Radio every Friday from 7.00-9.00 pm. 'One Team in London!' Chelsea FanCast #466

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Liam Twomey, ESPN's Chelsea correspondent for the last live Monday night show of the season as we look back at a victorious night in Baku to win the Europa Cup and reflect back at a season of high points and low points. On the show tonight we ask, what is it about Chelsea’s winning mentality – is winning trophies the club’s football identity? And what of Eden Hazard without whom winning trophies for the last 7 years may just have been a lot more difficult. By his own admission, almost certainly off to Real Madrid, we praise one of Chelsea’s greatest and say thank you and goodbye. With Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Arsenal in the final, did we finally see Sarriball in full effect? In part two, we discuss the irony of Sarri possibly earning a reprieve at Chelsea by finally winning a trophy only to walk out on the club with a tempting offer to join Juventus. And if he does go, who will replace him – already the potential list rumoured by the press goes from the sublime to the ridiculous.Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron! In part three, we ask does beating Arsenal 4-1 in a European final make up for a difficult season on and off the pitch for Chelsea supporters? And we look back at the highs and lows of this season. In part four we have your emails to read out for the final time this season. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd join Johnny Burrow to discuss Chelsea's fantastic victory in the Europa League Cup Final against Arsenal last week.In beating Arsenal in the Europa League Cup final, Chelsea picked up their 16th trophy in 16 years, proving that they still have the 'Winning Mentality' and the club specialises in turning chaos in to trophies, but how does Chelsea do it time and time again? If the truth is to be told, very few of us expected such a superb performance by Chelsea in the destruction of Arsenal in the final, but were we finally witnessing Sarriball and what prompted the stunning second half turn around? While Chelsea showed pace, passing and ruthless finishing did Arsenal crumble at the first sign of trouble?Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron! As we all hoped, Eden Hazard bowed out in a blaze of glory but with his post-match comments of “I think it’s goodbye” it really does look like he has played his last match for Chelsea. It's been a superb and trophy filled 7 years at the club, but what will his Chelsea legacy be?All's well that ends well for Maurizio Sarri and it was great to see him so clearly happy at finally picking up a winner's medal, but does this mean he has earned a reprieve at the club or will he be tempted to leave for Juventus? Finally, does winning a trophy make up for the off and on-pitch problems this season? All this plus calls from Ray, Wolf and Chidge getting rather angry with Marcus in the process! Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd, Joe Tweedie and making his FanCast debut, Dean Mears to preview Wednesday night's Europa League Cup Final between Chelsea and Arsenal. On the show tonight we ask, having heard his indignant press conference last week and heard the rumours about Juventus this week, is Sarri in or Sarri out? And if he is, is Frank Lampard really a viable alternative? In part two, we look ahead to the Europa League Cup final against Arsenal. Will Chelsea’s injury crisis cost us? But has the treatment of Sarri been fair or unfair by both the fans and the club? And looking ahead to next week's final, Liam picks up on the Chelsea Supporters' Trusts statement criticising UEFA and Chelsea for not doing more to help supporters make the trip out to Baku to support the team. With Petr Cech set to join Chelsea as Sporting Direcor and Frank Lampard rumoured to be in the frame for the manager's job should Sarri leave, are we seeing a 'Return of the legends'? 'Welcome to the Boston Tea Party' Chelsea FanCast #464

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Clayton Beerman to round up this week's Chelsea news including the match in Boston and Ruben Loftus-Cheek's season ending injury. On the show tonight we ask was Chelsea’s trip to Boston last week necessary and given Loftus-Cheek’s injury should it have been played at all? And was Sarri’s absence from any media appearances a message to Roman Abramovich? In part two, with Ruben’s injury adding to a long list of key players currently side-lined with injury, is it just bad luck and coincidence or should Sarri’s training and playing methods be questioned? The transfer window has now opened, but with uncertainty due to the CAS appeal what’s going on? We discuss the likely ins and outs. Uefa’s stupid decision to have the Europa League final in Baku is making it very difficult for Chelsea fans to make the trip, but over and above that, how important is it for Chelsea to bring the trophy back home and will it make a difference as to whether Sarri survives as manager or not?Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron! In part three, we have the usual parish notices, we put you in the picture regarding the Chelsea FanCast summer schedule and with yesterday being the 19th May we recall some memories of the day, 7 years ago, when Chelsea lifted the European Cup. Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio 17/05/19

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge and Clayton Beerman join Johnny Burrow to look back at Chelsea's week, including a trip to Boston to support Roman Abramovich's 'Final Whistle on Hate'. Chelsea played a match in America against New England Revolution last week in support of Roman Abramovich's campaign against anti-semitism, but with a European Final a matter of week's away should the team have been playing this match at all? It seems that Sarri thought as much given his public absences but was he sending the club a message? The foolishness of the match was put in to sharp focus with a season ending injury to Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but what does this say about Chelsea's current injury crisis with injuries to Ruben, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Rudiger, Kante and Ampadu? Is it just bad luck or is there a pattern emerging that may have something to do with Sarri's training regimen and lack of squad rotation. With the transfer window officially opening this week, we enter the annual period of rumour and madness. With Hazard looking very likely to leave and Luiz signing a contract extension, what are the other likely in and outs for Chelsea and will it all depend on whether the Transfer Ban is imposed. We say bollocks to UEFA for staging the Europa League final in Baku! It means an expensive and logistical nightmare for many fans wanting to go and many who follow the team loyally, home and away, at every match are unable to go. How can the clubs help? How many fans will make it to the match? How important is to win the Final? And finally, with conflicting rumours circulating about the future of Maurizio Sarri, should he be given credit for Chelsea finishing 3rd in the league and reaching a domestic and a European final? Has it actually been a successful first season for Sarri? Will his relationship with the fans & club count against him? Will Sarri go back to Italy and will Frank Lampard & Jody Morris replace him? 'Chelseaphrenia' Chelsea FanCast #463

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Liam Twomey, Chelsea correspondent for ESPN, to look back at the last match of the Premier League season against Leicester and the nail biting Europa League semi against Eintracht Frankfurt. On the show tonight we ask was Chelsea’s dull draw against Leicester a foretaste of what life will be like without Hazard and with our diminutive Belgian looking very likely to be on his way to Real Madrid, we ask just how big has his contribution to Chelsea been this season and for the last 7 years. We also wonder what competition Chelsea won to end up with Gonzalo Higuain as the prize, as the big Argentinian missed a sitter against the Foxes and can we get a refund? In part two, while Chelsea have hilariously shithoused their way to 3rd in the Premier League to be the top team in London, we ask how much credit does Sarri deserve or was it more down to the failings of Arsenal, Spurs and Utd? Has there really been any improvement on last season? We look back at the good, the bad and the ugly from this season and ask will the club stick with Sarri or twist?Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron! In part three, we look back to a bum squeakingly tense night at the Bridge last Thursday where Chelsea did everything not to reach their 6th European final, but somehow managed to knock Eintracht Frankfurt out. Jonathan Kydd and Dan Silver join Johnny Burrow to look back at Chelsea's nerve jangling 2nd leg of the Europa league semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt which saw Chelsea reach their 6th European final after a penalty shoot-out. We also look ahead to the final Premier League match of the season away to Leicester City on Sunday. Liam Twomey, Chelsea correspondent for ESPN joins us on the phone to discuss another final for Chelsea, but how much praise do Chelsea & Sarri deserve? With Blue eyes now focused on how to get to Baku, Liam reports on the travel & ticket allocation nightmare the fans now face.Kepa & Hazard were the penalty shoot-out heroes as Chelsea reached their 6th European final (that's now 19 finals in 19 years), Chelsea made very hard work of it, but found a way. But why was Ruben Loftus-Cheek subbed? Why was Cahill snubbed when Christensen went off? With some poor 2nd half performances is it Sarri or the players that are getting Chelsea over the line? With Frankfurt fans were all over Stamford Bridge, questions need to be asked about how they got tickets and talking of tickets, Chelsea and Arsenal have a pitiful ticket allocation, while Baku itself is a ridiculous location which will be very expensive to get to. But can Chelsea & Sarri win the final and will it be Hazard’s last hurrah? No Stamford Chidge on the show this week, he was at the Football Blogging Awards in Manchester, but we get him on the phone to report back on whether or not Chelsea Fancast wonthe Best Podcast award. Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd, Tony Glover and Joe Tweedie to discuss Chelsea's wins against Watford and Eintracht Frankfurt and try to figure out how they are 3rd in the Premier League. On the show tonight we look at Chelsea’s Jeckyll and Hyde performance; Kepa’s world class save; Kante’s injury; Jorginho’s improved performance and Ruben Loftus-Cheek increasingly looking the part.In part two we ask how on earth have Chelsea ended up in the Top 4 and does Sarri deserve some credit for this? We give thanks to Gary Cahill as he bows out and ponder the future without Eden Hazard. With the last home game of the season representing something of an end of term, we discuss the real meaning of following Chelsea week in week out and how it differs from the echo chamber of following Chelsea via social media. In part three we look back at last Thursday’s Europa League semi-final 1st leg away to Eintracht Frankfurt and ahead to the 2nd leg this Thursday. With Rudiger and now Kante out, and Frankfurt expecting two of their best players back they could be a very different challenge for Chelsea. Is 1-0 enough or will we have our work cut out to make it to the Final? In part four we have this week’s parish notices plus your emails to read out. Hosted on Acast. Chelsea, Utd or Arsenal? Chelsea face Watford on Sunday but will the Hornets have one eye on the Cup Final? Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd join Johnny Burrow to look back at Chelsea's frustrating draw against Burnley and look ahead to Sunday's crunch match against Man Utd.Liam Twomey, Chelsea correspondent for ESPN joins us on the phone to report on the Press Conference with Maurizio Sarri. We discuss the importance of the Man Utd v Chelsea match; get an injury update and discuss what Sarri had to say about Liam's question to him on Chelsea's poor away results against the top six this season. Also, what did Sarri think about Eden Hazard not being selected for the PFA's Team of the Season. The 2-2 draw at home to Burnley was undoubtedly a 'Game of Two Halves' with two great goals by Chelsea interspersed with some terrible defending to concede two poor goals. Burnley’s dark arts made life difficult for Chelsea but is it a valid excuse and should the referee take action? Why can’t Sarri make effective in-game changes? Is Chelsea’s squad good enough? Can Sarri improve them?Hudson-Odoi ruptures his achilles and is out for maybe 6 months. What will the impact be on Chelsea's run in? Will the Bayern move be in doubt? How will it impact Hazard’s move to Real Madrid and will Hudson-Odoi come back the same player? In the race for the top four, Chelsea, Arsenal & Utd are all looking bad as each other but can Chelsea still make the top 4? Chidge's spreadsheet and prediction skills provide the answers.Previewing Man Utd v Chelsea does the season all boil down to this match? Do we really see Utd losing three in a row? Do we really see Chelsea getting a result when they need to? Will Sarri bottle it and play Hazard as false 9 again? We get 'The Opposition View' from Jack Ronson from BBC Manchester and ask him if Utd jumped the gun in making Ole Gunnar Solksjaer permanent Utd manager? Is Utd’s squad not good enough or is their attitude to blame for their poor recent performances? Are their similarities in both Chelsea & Utd’s decline? And finally how does Jack see the match going and what's his score prediction? We wrap up by discussing how we see Utd v Chelsea going and reveal our score predictions and reveal the answer to our new Chelsea Fancast quiz: 'Chidge & Chad's Chelsea Challenge' (courtesy of @ChelseaChadder) which this week is "Who are the last 10 Chelsea players to score against Man Utd?"Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron!Chelsea FanCast is broadcast on Love Sport Radio every Friday from 7.00-9.00 pm. Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd join Jake Watson to look back at Chelsea's win against Slavia Prague and look ahead to Monday's match against Burnley.Oliver Harbord, Chelsea correspondent of Football.London joins us on the phone to look back at the 4-3 win against Slavia Prague which sees Chelsea reach the semi-final of the Europa League. Having roared in to a 4-1 lead, Chelsea let Slavia back in to the match with two second half goals giving rise to a tense last 20 minutes. Was it a case of from the sublime to the ridiculous and what on earth does Sarri say to the team at half-time? Given Chelsea's proclivity to switch off in the second half this season, it begs the question.Vote for Chelsea FanCast as Best Podcast in the Football Blogging Awards! Voting ends midnight on Sunday April 21st. Vote here: https://footballbloggingawards.co.uk/vote-now/ We discuss Chelsea's apparent complacency and ask whether it is more evidence of a lack of leadership in the team and on that point who should be the leader of the team?Chelsea now face Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-final and arguably the dark horses of the competition. An attacking and free-scoring side with sought after striker Luka Jovic and World Cup finalist Anton Rebic they will be no push over for Chelsea. but can Chelsea overcome then and go all the way to win the trophy or will they fall at the final hurdle. Will Sarri be a Chelsea nearly man or an he break his trophy winning duck?Looking ahead to the Burnley match on Monday, Chelea arguably need to win every match to be sure of a top four finish, but with Burnley probably safe from relegation will they now be 'on the beach' or will they be typically robust opponents? We get the Burnley perspective from Robbie Coppack of the No Nay Never podcast and ask him how difficult Burnley’s struggles have been this season? How underrated is Sean Dyche as a manager and are Burnley now safe and perhaps 'on the beach'?We wrap up by discussing how we see Chelsea v Burnley going and give our match predictions as well as revealing the answers to the Chelsea FanCast quiz: How many Chelsea players have played for Burnley?Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron!Chelsea FanCast is broadcast on Love Sport Radio every Friday from 7.00-9.00 pm. Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd, Dan Silver and Tony Glover to digest a a very unpalatable defeat to Liverpool at Anfield which may have helped Liverpool's quest for their first title in 29 years. On the show tonight we look at Sarri’s tactics, inept refereeing, Salah cheating, Rudiger going off, Chelsea perennially leaking goals between the 45th and 60th minute to try and explain what went wrong and could it have all been very different. In part two its operation ‘get the vote out’ for the FBAs and we announce the next Hyundai Extra Mile winner and have an interview with him, before asking are Chelsea simply not good enough; have we become too entitled or does it just hurt like hell losing to Liverpool and can we still make the top 4 in spite of yesterday’s defeat? Slavia played well just as Jan predicted this week but are Slavia feeling confident for the 2nd leg? Sarri felt that Chelsea showed some fight, but was it more down to bringing on Hazard and Kante? And while it was a disappointing performance from Chelsea 1-0 away win is not a bad result in Europe.Discussing the Europa League match, Chelsea's ‘b’ team is not as good as the A Team and Chelsea still seem susceptible to pressing, physicality and sloppiness. 'Opportunity Knocked' Chelsea FanCast #454

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Joe Tweedie to look back at Chelsea's last gasp draw against Wolves and the routine win against Dynamo Kiev.On the show tonight we rue Chelsea’s missed opportunity to get in to the top four while considering the fact that Wolves are a decent nuggety side. But are teams genuinely difficult to break down or does possession-based football without penetration simply not work?In part two we discuss Sarri’s change to 4:2:3:1; ask is Hazard a blessing or a curse and argue that Loftus-Cheek, if fit, should start every game. With key positions and players not working on the pitch we ask should the players or Sarri be blamed. And why are the fans so unhappy at the moment and is this the main reason why the atmosphere is so poor at the moment? We'll also explain how you can vote Chelsea FanCast for Best Podcast in the Football Blogging Awards! In part three we look back at last Thursday’s Europa Cup tie against Dynamo Kiev and look ahead to the second leg in Kiev this week. We ask what’s the best route to the Champions League – top 4 or Europa Cup and does Sarri have to do one or the other to survive? In part four we have four absolutely superb emails to read out. Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd join Johnny Burrow to look back at a the wins against Fulham in the Premier League, Dynamo Kiev in the Europa Cup and look ahead at a potentially tough fixture against Wolves this weekend.Dom Fifield, the London Football Correspondent of The Guardian joins us on the phone to talk about the news that FIFA has denied Chelsea's request to freeze the transfer ban while they appeal against the punishment handed out. Does this mean Chelsea will be unable to sign players from this summer's window or will the ban ultimately be delayed as it was for Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid? Will the ban mean Chelsea will have to blood their youth players and how safe is Sarri in his job?Chelsea supporters were frustrated with Sarri's team selection against Dynamo Kiev on Thursday night, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi left on the bench, But with Pedro on fire and a stunning Willian free kick Chelsea strolled through to win 3-0. Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi combined well to score the third so was Sarri right to bring them on late in the game or should they have started? With a 3-0 lead to take in to the second leg, is the tie done and dusted?Chelsea made hard work of beating neighbours Fulham last weekend, in part due to the fatigue of the players after a touch week but it also revealed the conundrum for Sarri in whether to defend deep but not create or press high and pose more of a threat but looking vulnerable defensively. At least Jorginho and Higuain, his main Sarriball disciples both found the back of the net.Wolves beat Chelsea 2-1 back in November and are a dangerous side, so can we expect Sarri to start his tried and tested line up, many of whom got a rest on Thursday. How should Sarri set up - high press or defend deeper? With the battle for top four now back on is this a must win game for Chelsea and what would it mean for Sarri should they lose? This week's opposition view is with Harry Mansell from the Wolves 77 Club and we has this season exceeded his expectations? Does he worry that Espirito Santo will get poached? Who have the stand out players for Wolves been this season and which Chelsea players does he think will be the threat to Wolves on Sunday? Finally we ask Harry how he sees the match going and get a score prediction out of him.To wrap up we give our predictions for the Chelsea v Wolves match, relive some memories of past matches against Wolves and answer this week's Chelsea FanCast Quiz: Who played for both Chelsea and Wolves.Plus a plug for your vote for Chelsea FanCast as best podcast in the Football Blogging Awards! "Freya'd Nerves" Chelsea FanCast #453

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Alex 'the Girl who likes Balls' Churchill to look back to a great and ever so funny victory against bitter rivals Spurs and a more tense than it should have been win against Fulham. On the show tonight we applaud Kepa’s man of the match come back; question Chelsea’s defensive fragility and ponder Sarri’s dichotomy with defending and attacking. In part two we check that we were not hallucinating when we saw Jorginho score; applaud a proper striker’s goal with Higuain opening up the scoring; ponder why Sarri won’t give the youth more game time when he has a squad full of knackered players and breathe again as Chelsea look be in a better position to finish in the top four. But how difficult will it be? We look at the comparative run ins for Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Utd to see how it might pan out.In part three we look back at a great and ever so funny 2-0 defeat of Spurs last Wednesday and look ahead to this Thursday’s Europa Cup tie against Dynamo Kiev.In part four we have four absolutely superb emails to read out. Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge and Clayton Beerman join Aaron Paul to look back at a great win against Spurs in midweek and look forward to this weekend's match against neighbours Fulham.Oliver Harbord Chelsea correspondent for Football.London, joins us on the phone to report back on Friday's presser with Maurizio Sarri talking about Claudio Ranieri getting the sack; will Kepa be back in action against Fulham having been on the naughty step; will Sarri change his tactical approach for each game and what are his thoughts on Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Gonzalo Higuain and club Captain Gary Cahill?Look back at the match against Spurs on Wednesday, it doesn't get much better than Trippier's comedy goal, but has Sarri been listening to the players about how to set up tactically? Should Harry Kane have been punished for his 'headbutt' on Cesar Azpilicueta? While Chelsea were outstanding defensively, is the fact that we only had one shot on target a cause for concern and has victory over our biggest rivals given Sarri a stay of execution?Chelsea came up just short against Man City in the Carabao Cup Final last weekend, losing out on penalties, but all the post-match talk was about Kepa refusing to be substituted for Willy Caballero. We discuss the fall out about 'Kepa-gate' and ask whether the resolution of it has actually galvanised the squad and strengthened Sarri's position.Looking ahead to this weekend's match against Fulham we discuss whether we should be concerned by yet another match against a team who have sacked their manager and may benefit from 'manager bounce'. How should Sarri set up tactically and which team will he pick and is there any way Fulham can win against Chelsea? This week's opposition view is with Jack Kelly from the Fulhamish podcast. We ask Jack whether Ranieri should have been sacked and what are his expectations of Scott Parker? Can Fulham get anything out of the game and how does he see it going? To wrap up we give our predictions for the Fulham v Chelsea match and answer this week's Chelsea FanCast Quiz: How many goals did Peter Osgood score against Fulham? Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge, Jonathan Kydd and Alex 'The Girl Who Likes Balls' Churchill join Aaron Paul to discuss a trilogy of Cup matches where Chelsea were humbled by Man Utd in the FA Cup, beat Malmo in the Europa Cup and take on Man City in the Carabao Cup final.Liam Twomey Chelsea correspondent for ESPN, joins us on the phone to report back on this weeks press news starting with the report on a Transfer Ban for Chelsea; Sarri's comments about Callum Hudson-Odoi in the post match presser after the Malmo game and the rumours that Steve Holland might be in the frame to take over from Sarri.Talking of the match against Malmo, Chelsea were dreadful, clueless and nervous until they scored and then the confidence seemed to flow back. But were they playing Sarriball? Plus N'Golo Kante showed us again why he is one of the best and Hudson-Odoi had arguably his best performance in a Chelsea shirt.Did the limp defeat against Man Utd in the FA Cup on Monday night mark the beginning of the end for Maurizio Sarri? His tactics were picked apart by United; his substitutions were criminally insane and the players played with no belief. Is it any wonder then that the supporters have lost belief in him and his 'football'?Long time listener to the Chelsea FanCast, Fredric Karberg, joins us in the studio to talk about following Chelsea from Sweden and to talk about the support Chelsea gets from the Swedish Blues.Looking ahead to the Carabao Cup final against Man City, we ask will it be another disaster if Sarri doesn’t change? Is there any way Chelsea can win and if Sarri makes the same mistakes and we get hammered will he be fired & will it be deserved? We also have Dave Walker joining us on the phone from 'Read but never Red' to give us the City fans perspective on the match. To wrap up we answer this week's Chelsea FanCast Quiz: Name the Chelsea scorers in all of Chelsea’s League Cup finals? 'Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City' Chelsea FanCast #451

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Liam Twomey, ESPN's Chelsea correspondent to look back at a very disappointing and somewhat mutinous night at Stamford Bridge where Man Utd knocked Chelsea out of the FA Cup.On the show tonight we discuss the nightmare at Stamford Bridge, Sarri’s shortcomings, the substitutions and the increasing toxicity and vitriol aimed at the manager by the supporters who he seems to have lost. In part two we ask does Sarri have to go now? Is his position untenable? Is the situation worse than it was with Rafa, AVB and Scolari? What must happen to limit the damage and what potential replacements are there longer term. Zidane and Laurent Blanc have been mentioned in dispatches but what about Frank Lampard? In parts three and four, as you can imagine we have had loads of emails with Chelsea supporters venting their spleen at what’s going on with the club so we have dedicated two parts to read them all out! It's all part of the therapy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio 15/02/2019

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd join Aaron Paul to look back at Chelsea's first away win of 2019 against Malmo in the Europa Cup and much as it pains us we revisit the horror of last weekend's 6-0 defeat against Man City. We also look forward to Monday nights FA Cup tie against Man Utd.Ollie Harbord, Chelsea correspondent for Football.London, joins us on the phone to report back on Friday's press conference with Gianfranco Zola. Why was Chelsea Chairman Bruce Buck at Sarri's press conference and watching the warm up against Malmo from the touchline? What does this bode for Sarri's future at Chelsea and what too of the future for Callum Hudson-Odoi who didn't get a place in the starting line up against Malmo? The win against Malmo, while not completely convincing, was at least an away victory. Annoyingly Chelsea switched off allowing Malmo to score and get back in to the tie, putting more pressure on Chelsea for the return leg than they would have liked. But does it underline Chelsea's defensive issues and is it a question of concentration or Sarri's tactics. The shocking defeat to Man City heaped more pressure on Sarri and suspicions that he may get the sack sooner rather than later, but is he solely to blame for Chelsea's 'up and down' form or should the players and the Club shoulder the blame too? Is Sarri stupid, arrogant or both? Will the Board pull the trigger if it looks like Chelsea will miss out on Champions' League qualification? Will anything ever change in terms of managers being wasted unless changes happen in the Boardroom, a willingness to spend the money need to revamp the squad and the hiring of a Director of Football?Looking ahead to the FA Cup tie against Man Utd we recognise it's importance as a classic cup tie, but how important is it for Sarri's future? Martin Blackburn from the Sun joins us on the phone to give us the 'Opposition View' and believes that Utd's loss to PSG in the Champions League will make them more determined against Chelsea on Monday as their last chance to win a trophy this season. To wrap up we answer this week's Chelsea FanCast Quiz: Since 1945 how many times has Chelsea lost 6-0 and what year and against which teams did they lose?Chelsea Fancast is broadcast on Love Sport Radio every Friday from 7.00-9.00 pm. 'The Horror...The Horror...' Chelsea FanCast #450

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd, Alex 'The Girl Who Likes Balls' Churchill and Joe Tweeds to look back at the horrific 6-0 hiding dished out by Man City on Sunday (from behind the sofa of course). On the show tonight we discuss the goals that hit Chelsea for six. Could they have been avoided? Was it just a bad day at the office or have the warning signs been there for months and how much of it was down to City just being phenomenally good? In part two we try to give some historical context to the defeat – just how bad was it; and with many Chelsea supporters calling for Sarri to be sacked we mount the case for the prosecution and the case for the defence and ask is there a realistic solution to the perpetual chaos Chelsea find themselves in. In part three we have an interview with this month’s Hyundai Extra Mile competition winner who is an 8-year-old girl called Beth and to give us some perspective and to prove there are more important things in life than football we’ll be plugging Kenny Rice’s forthcoming do in aid of Leukemia and wishing the best to Chelsea cult hero Mickey Thomas who faces his own battle with cancer. Finally, Jonathan has some great emails to read out this week and I wrap up with the usual Parish notices. Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Tony Glover to report back on a topsy turvey week for Chelsea with a 4-0 defeat away to Bournemouth followed by a 5-0 thumping of Huddersfield. On the show tonight we discuss the seeds of another potentially great Chelsea partnership up front with Hazard and Higuain scoring two goals each in the 5-0 defeat of Huddersfield. In part two we discuss Kante and Barkley catching the eye as well as Hazard and Higuain, but with Chelsea so inconsistent at the moment, are we just becoming flat track bullies? Will a very testing February be too much for Sarri? In part three we look back at the 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth. Have Sarri’s criticisms of the players mentality and motivation been misconstrued? In spite of bouncing back against Huddersfield do many of the current issues with Sarri, the players and the Board remain? 'False Logic' - Chelsea FanCast #446

Join Stamford Chidge, Jonathan Kydd and Dan Silver to look back at the 2-1 win against Newcastle on Saturday and at last weeks Carabao Cup semi-final 1st leg against Spurs. On the show tonight we ask is playing Hazard in the False 9 really false logic and is Sarri making some sort of a statement to the club by doing so?In part two we marvel at the marvelous N’Golo Kante who is increasingly adapting to his new role. The other 9 players would do well to follow his example. What’s happened to Jorginho whose early season form seems to have deserted him. And thanks to our mate Stewart Harrington we’ll discuss whether we go to football to see Chelsea win or be entertained. Oh and we’ll have a quick recap of the Carabao Cup semi with Spurs. In part three we announce the first winner of the Hyundai Extra Mile competition, Adam Walczak or Valky to his mates. I spoke to him yesterday and talked about his experiences following Chelsea since the 1980’s – the interview is well worth a listen.
