'Chelsea's Decade' Chelsea FanCast Special

Stamford Chidge, Jonathan Kydd and Clayton Beerman look back on a typical roller coaster decade for Chelsea FC.Having gone through ten managers in the decade and suffering our two lowest finishes in the Premier League; Chelsea being Chelsea also managed to win three European trophies including the iconic Champions League triumph in Munich in 2012. Throw in three Premier League titles; three FA Cups and one League Cup and Chelsea undoubtedly are the top English team of the decade. This was the decade which saw Eden Hazard blossom into one of the best players in the world and we were privileged to see his entire Chelsea career. We reflect on a decade which has seen Chelsea scale some unbelievable heights amid some self inflicted chaos. Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio 20/12/19

Stamford Chidge and Dan Silver join Matt Beadle for a look back at Chelsea's defeat to Bournemouth; being drawn against Bayern Munich in the Champions' League and preview our big match against Jose Mourinho's Spurs on Sunday. Was the defeat to Bournemouth resulting in 4 defeats in 5 matches an indication of a crisis or a blip and is it the reality check we need? The Champions' League draw pits Chelsea against Bayern Munich reviving very happy memories of 2012 for Frank Lampard & the Chelsea supporters, but is it better or worse than expected? How daunting will playing Bayern Munich be and can we beat them?Dan Tracey from E-Spurs joins us for The Opposition View and we ask him how he feels about Jose being in charge, given what he’s said about Spurs? Does Dan think he’s changed? Is he worried about it ending in tears? And with Chelsea being a better side away is he worried? Finally we look ahead to the match against Spurs and wonder whether it's a good time to play them and ask just how unpalatable & damaging will it be to lose? “Slam Dunked” - Chelsea FanCast #484

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Liam Twomey, straight out of The Athletic to reflect on Chelsea's Transfer Ban being lifted; look back at the 3-1 defeat to Everton on Saturday and ahead to Tuesday night's final Champions' League group match against Lille.Special Announcement: Some of you may know that John Whitehead (aka @donjoninglesias on Twitter) passed away last week. What many won’t know was that he was terminally ill with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a ferocious lung disease. Despite this John never let this dull his passion for his family, life & love of football.Although born in Spain, he was raised within a goal kick of Stamford Bridge & this began his life long love affair with his beloved Chelsea, whom he followed over land & sea (& Leicester) for 6 decades. John’s last game was Lille away in his wheelchair & struggling severely with his breathing he cheered on his team to victory. As a fitting tribute to this young father & husband, a “True Blue” a minutes applause on the 57th minute on Tuesday against Lille is being organised. When discussing this, John’s wife Kathryn said, that if he was here today, he’d say “that was the best thing to ever happen to him in his life”! So as only Chelsea can, let’s give John a “Proper Chels(ea)” send off that his family can remember please! On the show tonight we kick off proceedings to discuss the ramifications of the Transfer Ban being lifted. Should Chelsea buy & if so who & what? And how will this affect youth development? In part two, we look back at the loss to Everton and discuss the lack of physicality and poor finishing and the woeful defending and ask with 3 defeats in the last 4 matches what does Frank have to do to turn it round? In part three, we have the Parish Notices, a look at the weekends Who Knows Wins match prediction league and look ahead to tomorrow night’s Champions’ League match against Lille. In part four we read out this week’s emails. Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio 06/12/19

Stamford Chidge, Jonathan Kydd and Clayton Beerman join Matt Beadle to talk about Chelsea's transfer ban being lifted today and a look back at the win against Aston Villa in midweek and ahead to the match against Everton. With the news on Friday that Chelsea's Transfer Ban has been lifted, we ask should Chelsea buy players in January and if so who and for what positions? Should the club be looking to buy quality or quantity and how will this affect the youth development? With a return to winning ways against Aston Villa in the midweek game, it had a feeling of 'Groundhog Day' with Chelsea creating chances, but not taking them; being careless at the back & conceding as a result. But it was a much needed win and very entertaining but why did it have to be so tense?Tammy was back on the score sheet & a Mason Mount scored a worldy so are Chelsea better when they both start? And why do opposition ‘keepers turn into Gordon Banks when playing Chelsea? Plus Ben joins us on the phone to discuss whether we need to buy another 'keeper to give Kepa some competition?Looking ahead to the Everton match we have Paul McParlan from These Football Times to discuss whether or not Duncan Ferguson will provide the lift Everton need to beat Chelsea, having sacked Marco Silva. All this plus our predictions for the match on Saturday!Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron!Chelsea FanCast is broadcast on Love Sport Radio every Friday from 7.00-8.00 pm. “Iron Curtain” Chelsea FanCast #483

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd & Tony Glover to look back at the 1-0 defeat to West Ham and ahead to the midweek match against Aston Villa. On the show tonight we ask whether the team selection was flawed or whether the profligacy up front was more of an issue. In part two, we look at some of the individual performances and ask why Chelsea can’t convert their chances; put in a tackle worthy of a foul or come back from behind and we discuss whether the defeat to West Ham was in fact the reality check we all needed. We also look at last weekends Who Knows Wins match prediction league and reveal who the somewhat surprising winner was.In part three, we read out this week’s emails. In part four we have a look ahead to Wednesday night’s home match against another claret and blue team; Aston Villa and the return of John Terry. Jonathan Kydd, Clayton Beerman, Dan Silver join Matt Beadle to talk about Chelsea's defeat to Man City in the Premier League last weekend; the draw against Valencia in the Champions' League on Wednesday and look ahead to Saturday's match against West Ham.Looking back at Chelsea's draw against Valencia we ask was the draw enough; is qualification secured? How do we address the fallibility at the back & be more ruthless up front? And with Kepa getting stick – is it justified or not?In last weekend's defeat to Man City did Chelsea fail the big test or are they exceeding expectations? Was Chelsea’s inexperience and naivete exposed? When will we beat a big team and does it matter?Looking ahead to Saturday's match against West Ha, with Tammy out, who starts Michy or Giroud? Do we expect many other changes to the starting XI? But were Chelsea simply done by two mistakes & two well executed set pieces? Did Utd’s strong selection, packed midfield & counter-attacking stump Chelsea? On the plus side, there was more game time for James; Guehi & Gilmour and a superb Drogba-esque goal from Batshuayi but can he do this more often and will going out of the Cup have longer term benefits for Chelsea?Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron!Looking ahead to the Watford match, we discuss Chelsea winning their last 6 away games, but why are we better away? 'The Hershey Bar Kid' Chelsea Fancast #478

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Tony Glover to look back at Captain America aka Christian Pulisic's marvel-ous hat trick against Burnley on Saturday. On the show tonight we get a warm fuzzy glow discussing Pulisic’s perfect hat-trick and ask in the cold light of day has Frank Lampard handled his introduction to the team well? Is he Hazard-esque or is the fact that goal scoring seems to be a team effort this season more important? In part two, we discuss Jorginho and Kovacic, liberated by Frank Lampard and dominating midfield and Zouma and Tomori become rock like in defence, before the team collectively switched off to allow Burnley two needless consolation goals. But sloppiness aside Frank Lampard’s Chelsea are most definitely exceeding expectations. We also have the usual Parish notices and a teaser for the next Chelsea Special podcast – an interview with Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris. In part three, we read out this week’s emails and in part four we doff our hat to this week’s winners in our Who Knows Wins Chelsea FanCast match predictions league and then look back to the brilliant victory over Ajax in last Wednesday’s Champions’ League match and a quick look ahead to this Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Man Utd. Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio – the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge, Jonathan Kydd and Matt Beadle look back at Chelsea's stunning victory away to Ajax in the Champions' League this week and ahead to Chelsea's match away to Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday. We discuss arguably Chelsea's best performance and result of Lampard’s reign with the 1-0 win away in Amsterdam against Ajax on Wednesday night. The blend of experience and youth is beginning to pay off and Chelsea showed a tactical maturity as did Frank Lampard with his use of Pulisic and Batshuayi as impact subs.Chelsea are showing an impressive rate of development under Frank Lampard and with 6 wins out of 6 – we’re on a roll, but against Ajax we were lucky to be on the right side of a VAR call when Promes' goal was called offside. We discuss whether VAR might not be so bad after all.Looking ahead to Saturday's match against Burnley we talk to Chris Boden of the Burnley Express and discuss Burnley's great home record, but less so against Chelsea;  Ashley Barnes being the main threat, Burnley having deceptive quality but will they try to rough Chelsea up.We round up by discussing Chelsea's great record against Burnley especially away which perhaps debunks the myth of ot being a perennially tough away trip and with Kante & Barkley unlikely to start, who will and after a tough run of games played at high energy does anyone need a rest? Finally we give our predictions and a plug for Stamford Chidge taking part in the 'Big Stamford Bridge Sleep Out' in November. The Chelsea Special - Bobby Tambling Interview teaser

Bobby Tambling is most widely known for being Chelsea’s record goal scorer for over 40 years; scoring 202 goals in only 370 games before being famously bettered by Frank Lampard in 2013. We talked to Bobby about playing and learning from the great Jimmy Greaves; the differences in approach between Tommy Docherty and Dave Sexton; the game at Villa Park where he scored 5 goals; the pain of defeat against Spurs in the 1967 FA Cup Final and missing out in the 1970 final as well as following the careers of Kerry Dixon and Frank Lampard wondering which one might break his goal scoring record. To download and play the full interview with Bobby Tambling for just £2.99 go to chelseaspecial.podbean.comMake sure you follow the Chelsea Special on Podbean to get a heads up on our forthcoming interviews with Chelsea legends such as Kerry Dixon, Chopper Harris, Tommy Baldwin and many more. The Chelsea Fancast Archive: "Three nil and we ****** it up! with Special Guest Mickey Thomas

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast’s from the past. This week's episode is Chelsea FanCast #191 which features a guest appearance on the show by former Chelsea player and cult hero, Mickey Thomas. The show was originally recorded on 8th February 2012, a day after a frustrating 3-3 draw against Man Utd. Mickey Thomas is a much loved former Chelsea player in spite of his relatively short time at the club, but his bubbly and cheeky personality marked him out as one of the great characters of the game in the 1980's. He also scored some important goals for Chelsea put in some great performances in John Neal's side which are remembered fondly to this day.Chidge and the boys are joined by very special guest Chelsea cult hero Mickey Thomas to discuss the 3-3 draw v the Mancs and Mickey’s Chelsea career and thoughts on the modern game. After a frozen afternoon at the Bridge, the Chelsea FanCast report back on how Chelsea managed to find themselves 3-0 up, only to squander the chance for 3 points and end up drawing 3-3. But due credit must go to Howard Webb for evening things up!! While the boys are gutted to see a 3-0 lead disappear, they are encouraged by the signs of life in AVB’s ‘project’ when considering the absentees from the team.Chelsea cult hero from John Neal’s mid-80’s team, Mickey Thomas, is the special guest this week and is full of stories about his time at the club, playing with Joey Jones; Pat Nevin; Kerry Dixon and the 4-4 at Sheffield Wednesday, and his relationship with the Chelsea faithful. He also airs some very interesting views on the modern game about pressure; Fernando Torres; John Terry; and money!Mickey has had a tough time recently while he battles cancer. This has impacted his ability to earn a living. Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio 12/07/19

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio – the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Jake Watson, Stamford Chidge and Dean Mears. With Frank Lampard's first game in charge against Bohemian's last week, the boys ask what has he learnt and who caught his eye? Do we take pre-season too seriously and is the Club ripping the fans off?Chelsea draw 1-1 v Bohemians in Lampard’s 1st match in charge with a mix of youngsters & loan returnees. Who caught the eye? What systems is Frank Lampard's coaching team using? What, if anything, will Lampard have learned and is it too early to see who might make it in to the first team squad and who won’t?With pre-season meltdown already in full swing, do the media and the fans take it too seriously? Is pre-season predominantly about fitness rather than performances & results? Is it unfair on fans to pass these games off as competitive or is it a good opportunity for overseas fans to see the team play?Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron!Chelsea are charging £1.99 per pre-season match to watch on the 5th stand app. Many fans paid but couldn’t watch and for many others the app crashed. All this while fans used to get all the pre-season games for their Chelsea TV subscription of £5.99 per month. While the Club issued an apology and a refund, are they missing the point? Should they be charging at all? Is it exploitative? Are the fans being increasingly treated as customers rather than supporters? In this weeks 'Legend of the week' sponsored by Classic Football Shirts, Dean chooses his boyhood hero Carlo Cudicini. But is he really a Chelsea legend? He is only the third Chelsea goalkeeper to win the Club's 'Player of the Year' in 2002 and arguably is the third best goalkeeper in the club's history, but the feeling remains that his Chelsea career is a case of what might have been, had Petr Cech not arrived and relegated Carlo to the bench. It should not be forgotten though, that Carlo in his Chelsea prime was one of the best 'keepers in the Premier League and arguably the world.Chelsea FanCast is broadcast on Love Sport Radio every Friday from 7.00-9.00 pm. The Chelsea Fancast Archive - "All Very Bleak - Chelsea FanCast #192 with Neil Barnett"

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast’s from the past. This week's episode is Chelsea FanCast #192 which features the first guest appearance on the show of Neil 'Spy' Barnett. The show was originally recorded on 15th February 2012, a day after a miserable 2-0 defeat away to Everton in the dying embers of Andre Villas Boas' ill-feted tenure. Neil 'Spy' Barnett makes his first guest appearance on the Fancast and at the time was still the on-pitch announcer at Stamford Bridge and presenter on Chelsea TV. As well as throwing himself in to the show he discussed his book 'Perfect 10' on his favourite Chelsea players and regaled us with anecdotes of his time as on-pitch announcer, presenter at Chelsea TV and Chelsea supporter since 1959.Not a very good day at Everton would be an understatement, but hats off to the Chelsea Faithful who made the effort and got behind the team and the manager. Where do we start? No effort; no desire; no pace; no creativity; no pressing; poor defending and giving the ball away too easily. That’s 2 wins out of the last 10 games; 12 out of a possible 30 points. The worst points total at this stage of the season since 2000/01. It really is going from bad to worse isn’t it? Many Chelsea supporters are asking is AVB the right man for the job? Will Roman wield the axe? What if anything can we change?Hopefully we answer these tough questions on the show, aided and abetted by Neil ‘Spy’ Barnett, a man close to the Chelsea camp, who can bring some much needed perspective to proceedings having watched Chelsea since 1959. In among the insightful analysis we give out this week’s Match Awards - the ‘Fannies’ - for Man of the Match, Chant of the match, Guinness and Celery moments. In the second half of the show we talk to Neil about his book ‘Perfect 10’ and his often hilarious anecdotes from writing, editing and broadcasting for Chelsea for over 20 years, working closely with players and managers, and exchanging banter with home and away fans as the on-pitch announcer and presenting for Chelsea TV.But, we warn you. Neil can talk…a lot…and for a very long time!! For a shorter version read Neil’s book available here. The Chelsea Football FanCast #192: All Very Bleak! Hosted on Acast. Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio 05/07/19

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio – the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Jake Watson and Stamford Chidge are joined by special guest, Rick Glanvill, Chelsea's historian and author to round up this week's Chelsea news including the return of Frank Lampard and establish whether or not Chelsea has any history! Finally, after more '48 hours' than anyone can count, Frank Lampard has come home having been appointed as the next Chelsea manager (or Head Coach to be precise). What does Lampard’s appointment as manager mean to the supporters? Will the Club (or Roman to be precise) be patient? How will expectations be managed? How much of an issue is losing Hazard & the Transfer ban? Can Lampard really integrate the youth? Will the fans back him no matter what and just how long will he get?Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron:Become a Patron! With pre-season starting next week, what will be on Lampard's to do list? Does he need to make a decision on Kante’s role? How will he replace Hazard’s goals & creativity?Who stays; who goes and who comes back? Which youth players will he integrate and can he sign up Callum Hudson-Odoi?When you have Chelsea's official historian on the show, it would be remiss not to establish once and for all whether Chelsea does in fact have any history! Rick answers this as well as whether there are any historical equivalent’s to Lampard’s appointment? Rick busts some history myths around Chelsea; looks at some historical low and high points and some of the great players, managers and characters from Chelsea's rich history. In this weeks 'Legend of the week' sponsored by Classic Football Shirts, we choose Paul Canoville, a fitting choice as the most popular guest on the Chelsea FanCast and there is no one better to discuss Canners than Rick who wrote Paul's fantastic biography Black & Blue Canners may not have been the greatest Chelsea player of all time, but his legacy in paving the way for so many great black players in Chelsea's recent history makes him one of the most important players to have worn the Blue of Chelsea. The Paul Canoville Foundation is the official Charity partner of the Chelsea Fancast and information on the great work that Paul does can be found here.Chelsea FanCast is broadcast on Love Sport Radio every Friday from 7.00-9.00 pm.
