The Joshua Perry Show: 'Coach Stud has some fire under his ass'
If you are looking for insights on the Ohio State Buckeyes the day before they begin preseason camp, you sure came to the right place. On this edition of The Joshua Perry Show, the former OSU linebacker, national champion, captain and NFL player dishes on what the Buckeyes will be focused on the most offensively and defensively during camp. Obviously quarterback Justin Fields will be under the microscope, but so will the offensive line as Joshua points out on the show. What can be expected from the O-line this year? Joshua breaks it all down. And what will be the biggest focus defensively? Is there anything new to report at the middle linebacker position in particular? Switching gears to finish the show, Joshua explains how often players give "silent verbals" during the recruiting process, only to change their minds a few weeks later. Yes, this is in direct relation to the Bijan Robinson situation. Also, Joshua gives the scoop on Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford as a recruiter and as a coach. '(Stuff) happens, it's recruiting' | Camp kicks off Friday for Buckeyes
Is it right to play the blame game -- with Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford being the losing contestant? Or is Alford taking too much criticism from fans over the likely recruiting miss of 5-star RB Bijan Robinson? The People's Champ, Matt Baxendell, joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, plus: * What will happen from here at the RB position for the Buckeyes in their 2020 class? * Ohio State kicks off preseason camp on Friday. What will be the biggest areas of focus on both sides of the ball for Ryan Day's crew? All of that and more is coming at you on the Wednesday extravaganza. Ohio State head coach Ryan Day says he wants a wide receiver rotation that is six or seven players deep this season. The top-five WRs appear to be set for the Buckeyes. Therefore, which of Ohio State's reserve wide receivers will step this season and fill out the 6-or-7 man rotation? Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle to answer that question, plus: * JBook has some strong words when he compares Ryan Day's recruiting acumen to Jim Harbaugh's. * How do the Buckeyes stand with 2020 recruits Bijan Robinson, Jaylan Knighton and Elias Ricks? * And could OSU move on from 2020 offensive line commit Trey Leroux? The People's Champ, Matt Baxendell, joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, plus: * Will five-star running back Bijan Robinson commit to Ohio State early next month? * Just how high will this OSU class finish when it's all said and done? * What stood out the most from Ohio State's perspective at Big Ten media days in Chicago late last week? Duane Long's O-Line Breakdown
You know Duane Long. Duane knows offensive linemen. That begs the question: Do the Buckeyes know who their offensive linemen are? The head coach said in Chicago only one has secured a starting spot. So we really do need Duane's complete breakdown of every offensive linemen on the roster. You will get his unabashed evaluation, the five Duane would send out for the opener against Florida Atlantic and what he thinks of the 'coachspeak' surrounding the unit. What did Joshua Perry think of Jim Harbaugh's comments before and at Big Ten media days? Let's just say the former Ohio State linebacker, national champion, captain and NFL player was less than amused. And found the statements to be quite weak. Joshua drops by for his weekly podcast to discuss that, plus: * What stood out about the comments from Ohio State head coach Ryan Day regarding the Buckeyes? * What is Joshua hearing about OSU quarterback Justin Fields? * What is he hearing about the Buckeyes' middle linebacker situation and more? Michigan is 'not on same recruiting plane' as Ohio State
Following the commitment of high four-star safety Lathan Ransom on Tuesday, Ohio State moved up to No. 2 (from No. 4) in the 247Sports Composite team recruiting rankings for the 2020 class. Ransom gives the Buckeyes 21 prospects in their class thus far, with at least four more expected to join him. To illustrated how amazing this class is, Ransom is ranked as the No. 76 player in the country, and he is merely the eighth-best prospect in OSU's class. By comparison, Ransom would be the highest-ranked player in Michigan's class (the Wolverines' top recruit is ranked No. 80 in the Composite). Furthermore, if things go as expected leading up to the early signing period in December -- and perhaps all the way until the traditional signing day in February -- just how high will Ryan Day and Ohio State finish in the recruiting rankings this year? Will they keep the No. 2 ranking? Could they even finish No. 1, which is something Urban Meyer never did in Columbus? Speaking of Day, what can fans expect to hear from him when he takes the mic at Big Ten Media Days in Chicago on Thursday? The People's Champ, Matt Baxendell, joins Dave Biddle to discuss that and much more on the Wednesday extravaganza. Ransom decision day | Duane's defensive line breakdown
What's it been like the last few days without a commitment? Rough? Boring? Well, it's quite possible that angst is about to end because Ohio State's top target at safety is making his college decision public today. At 5 p.m. EST., Lathan Ransom will announce his commitment via Twitter. As of this morning, the Crystal Ball has 16 predictions ... all sweet and Ohio State. Duane Long is here and let's you know what the Buckeyes 'could' be getting. Then, Duane breaks down every defensive lineman on the Ohio State roster for 2019. Spend 5ish with us today, 'Nutters! The Joshua Perry Show: Michigan the B1G fave? 'Hell to the no'
Phil Steele and many others are picking Michigan to win the Big Ten championship this season. Is Joshua Perry buying that the Wolverines are the team to beat within the conference? The former Ohio State linebacker, national champion, captain and NFL player drops by for his show to delve into why he believes the Buckeyes will ultimately prove to be the Big Ten's best in 2019. Also on the docket: * Is Shea Patterson overrated? Steele has him ranked as the fifth-best quarterback in the country. And he does not list OSU's Justin Fields in his ranking of the top-75 QBs in the land. * Speaking of Fields, what does Joshua Perry expect out of him as a sophomore this season? * And what is something good you need to know about the Buckeyes' 2019 team? Joshua fills you in. All of that and more is coming up on the latest edition of The Joshua Perry Show. Bank on Bijan: 'I have him in ink, not pencil'
Is 5-star running back Bijan Robinson going to join Ohio State's stellar 2020 recruiting class, which is currently No. 4 in the country in the 247Sports Composite team rankings? The answer to that question is "hell yes" if you are Bill "Bank" Greene. Bank joins Dave Biddle on today's show to give insights on the top players remaining on OSU's board for the 2020 class. Specifically, Robinson, Elias Ricks, Lathan Ransom, Jaylan Knighton, Jacolbe Cowan and Kourt Williams? Also, what's the deal with the "hard cap" of 25 players per recruiting class? Are their loopholes the Buckeyes can use to get over 25? All of that and more is coming at you on the Monday extravaganza. Lethal Lathan? Bijan the Buckeye?
Is Ohio State about to raid Tucson, Ariz., for two of the top prospects in the country in the 2020 class? It sure seems to be trending in that direction. Mass exodus at Penn State? Buckeyes keep gaining momentum
Despite finishing with a 9-4 record last season, Penn State appeared to be a program with a lot of momentum in terms of recruiting. The Nittany Lions got off to a very good start with their 2020 class and appeared to be a lock to finish in the top-10 of the 247Sports Composite team rankings. However, this week alone they have had a trio of 4-star prospects de-commit, and have fallen to the No. 20 class in the land. This is on the heels of several players transferring from the program in the weeks and months following the 2018 season. Is this just an unlucky stretch for head coach James Franklin and PSU? Or is there more at play behind the scenes? Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle for his usual Friday visit to discuss that, plus: * Ohio State has the No. 8 class in the country so far for 2020. How high might head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes finish this cycle? Are OSU fans looking at a top-5 class? Perhaps top-3? * What are thoughts thus far on Ohio State first-year quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Mike Yurcich? * The Buckeye coaches have not said sophomore Justin Fields will be the starting QB. They are saying it will be a competition with fourth-year junior Gunnar Hoak, who transferred from Kentucky last month. What is to be made of that? All of that and more is coming at you on the Friday extravaganza. Will Petit-Frere be a starter this season?
Ohio State redshirt freshman offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere was the No. 1-ranked OT in the country in the 2018 class, per the 247Sports Composite. JBook responds to Milton controversy | OSU one-day camp notes
Our own Jonah Booker caused a little bit of a stir on Twitter when he posted that Ohio State is the clear leader for 5-star running back Kendall Milton. Milton's father, Chris Milton, was not a fan of JBook's tweet, and made that quite clear on the social media platform. Until now, JBook has not said a word about the "controversy." But he talks about it on today's show with Dave Biddle. Then the show moves on to: * Discussion about OSU's one-day camp on Thursday. What stood out the most? * Are things looking really good for the Buckeyes when it comes to Paris Johnson and Darrion Henry? * Is Trey Leroux a much better prospect than his ranking indicates?
