Who is the best Ohio State QB of this century? Buckeyes at Oregon game will be played without fans?
Who is the best Ohio State quarterback of this century? That was the site's poll question yesterday and Jonah Booker drops by for today's show to give his take. One thing is not up for debate: It has been an amazing run of great quarterback play for the Buckeyes the last two decades. Also on today's show: * Oregon's governor has banned large gatherings through the end of September, meaning the Ohio State at Oregon game will be played without fans. Is this the right call? Could the decision have waited? * James Franklin is saying that conferences won't wait for all teams to get back before they start playing college football again. Is he right? BM5: Wiltfong's Final Five
Ohio State is an extreme favorite to finish the Class of 2021 recruiting cycle with the No. 1 overall class. Thus far, the talent accumulation has been nothing short of incredible. And it doesn't figure to end with a whimper. How many spots are left in the class? Sure, it's a moving target. But for the purpose of today's show - with a nod to Duane's Front Row post - it's time to pick five to finish with. 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong is here with his quintet. The first four you'll be on board with. But No. 5? We shall see. Ohio State has also extended offers to two Class of 2022 prospects that prep near Chez Wiltfong. What does he think of the Indiana duo? We asked. Steve answered. Spend 5ish with us today, 'Nutters! May the football be with you?
It is May the 4th, so fill in your Star Wars jokes here. What is not funny is the idea of no football this fall. However, is momentum mounting for football to be played as scheduled this fall? One Ohio lawmaker is adamant there should be football this year and there is currently a 5-page thread on The Front Row mess. Steve Helwagen joins Dave Biddle on today's show to discuss that, plus: * Ohio State keeps adding commitments during the pandemic, the latest being 2022 athlete C.J. Hicks from Kettering Alter. * Is Steve surprised the Buckeyes are recruiting at such an elite level? All of that and more is coming your way on the Monday 5ish. What's the latest on Latham? Was 2016 OSU-UM 'Peak Harbaugh'?
What is the latest with high 4-star offensive tackle J.C. Latham? Is he still leaning Ohio State's way, or has his interest in the Buckeyes cooled? Jonah Booker drops by for his usual Friday visit to discuss that, plus: * What other offensive line recruits for the 2021 class is JBook keeping a close eye on? * Was the 2016 Ohio State-Michigan game the highlight of the Jim Harbaugh era at UM so far, even though the Buckeyes won? ESPN featured the "Game of Inches" in prime time last night, so once again the '16 game was at the forefront of the sports world. * How will players being able to profit off their name, image and likeness impact Ohio State? Feeling Foreman? | Dan's Top 10 Buckeyes for 2021 NFL Draft
247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong is here in his usual Thursday spot and once again has wisdom to spread. * The nation's No. 1 overall player - defensive end Korey Foreman - said last night he has interest in Ohio State. Is it mutual? Is this a case of Ohio State just wanting to horde very great player available? * Is J.C. Latham still leaning towards the Buckeyes? A few weeks ago, this felt like basically a done deal. Now? Not so much. * Why are Ole Miss and Texas A&M the two program tussling hardest with Ohio State for New Jersey standout Tywone Malone? Wiltfong clears up all three recruitments. * Then it is back to projecting riches for your Buckeyes. On Tuesday's show, Duane Long offered up his thoughts on the 2021 NFL Draft and which Buckeyes would be selected (in order). Today, it's Dan's turn to list a top 10. Changes abound. Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle on today's show to discuss that, plus: * What is the secret to Brian Hartline's recruiting prowess? Or is it really not a secret? * Is high 4-star cornerback Jaylin Davies going to be a Buckeye? * Which inexperienced defensive backs will start for Ohio State in 2020? That included three first-rounders (Chase Young, Jeff Okudah and Damon Arnette), a second-rounder (J.K. Dobbins), three third-rounders (Davon Hamilton, Jonah Jackson, Malik Harrison), a sixth-rounder (Jordan Fuller) and two seventh-rounders (K.J. Hill and Jashon Cornell). Head start on '22 | Seven spots left in '21?
Ohio State currently has the No. 1 2021 recruiting class ... by a wide margin. Has the staff gotten bored with the competition and moved on to 2022? Not exactly. But Ryan Day and Co. did kick off Class of 2022 additions yesterday when New Orleans native Jyaire Brown verbally committed to the Buckeyes. We break down his commitment with 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong. But that's not all. We also delve into how 2021 will finish off. * Three more 5-stars on the way? * David Davidkov's inspirational journey to ... 'Recruiting is getting stupid' for Buckeyes | How will 2020 LBs perform?
Ohio State's recruiting is "stupid"? Well, not stupid in the classic term, of course. In this case, we are talking about stupid good. Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle for today's show to talk about high four-star cornerback Jaylin Davies perhaps becoming the next member of the Buckeyes' No. 1-ranked 2021 recruiting class, right on the heels of OSU landing four-star safety Jantzen Dunn on Monday. Also on the docket: * What is the state of the linebacking corps for the Buckeyes in 2020? We do a deep dive on that. * What is Bax most interested to see in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday? (Yes, tomorrow! 'Exactly what we need' | Duane's Buckeyes Draft Board
Much of the world is on hiatus until the current pandemic is handled. That does not include Ohio State's football program. Ryan Day and Co. added another prospect to its No. 1 rated Class of 2021 when Kentucky's best - Jantzen Dunn - verballed to Ohio State. Oh, and 11 Buckeyes could come off the board in the fast-approaching NFL Draft. What does Duane Long think of Dunn joining this class? How does Duane rank the draft-eligible Buckeyes? 'Dunn' deal for Kentucky's top prospect to commit to the Buckeyes?
Will the No. 1 prospect out of the state of Kentucky, defensive back Jantzen Dunn, commit to Ohio State later today? It is sure trending in that direction. Bill "Bank" Greene joins Dave Biddle on today's show to discuss what changed over the weekend with Dunn. Plus, what position is he most likely to play in college, and what former OSU defensive backs does he remind Bank of? Also on the docket: * Michigan is recruiting the state of Massachusetts hard for the second straight year, which seems like an odd strategy. Let's talk about it. * On the other hand, P.J. Fleck is doing an excellent job at Minnesota. What does the future hold for Fleck? * What prospects from Ohio State are we most curious to see where they land in this week's NFL Draft? Bucknuts Almost Live: How healthy is Ohio State basketball?
Of the last 20 basketball recruits to join Ohio State's squad, 11 have left the program. If you take the two highest recruits in each class, seven of the 10 are gone. What gives? Is Ohio State in the middle of a program crisis? Or is this the new normal in college basketball? Who better to answer than our network's premiere voice on college basketball: Director of Basketball Recruiting Evan Daniels? The answer: Nobody. We execute a deep dive on Ohio State hoops with Evan, who offers up insight on Chris Holtmann's team when it comes to recruiting, on-court performance and what the future might look like. 'It will take pro sports to open the way for college sports'
It is an uncomfortable subject, but one that is on the minds of all college football fans: What will the 2020 season look like? Will it be played as scheduled? Might there be a delay to the start of the season, followed by a shortened season? And heaven forbid, there is one really bad possibility (although we don't think it will come to that). Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle to discuss why pro sports leagues planning to start in June could be what paves the way for college sports to start this fall. Also on the show: * Defensive end Tunmise Adeleye -- the No. 41 ranked recruit in the country in the 2021 class -- became the 16th commitment for the Buckeyes in their No. 1-ranked class on Wednesday. He was originally expected to announce his decision in August. * What stood out to JBook regarding Ryan Day's 45-minute teleconference with reporters on Wednesday? * Where do things stand with the other top recruits on OSU's board for 2021? Quarantine domination continues
We have to start by thanking Tunmise Adeleye for timing his commitment to best suit this podcast. Yes, Ohio State added another standout to its epic Class of 2021 haul in Adeleye, a Texas native prepping at IMG in Bradenton, Fla. Adeleye is the No. 4 defensive end in the class, according to the 247Sports Composite. He'll likely line up in Scarlet and Gray opposite fellow commitment Jack Sawyer (the No. 3 defensive end). Is that good? Also, a recent review of available 5-star prospects in the class have three leaning towards Columbus, according to 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong. So guess who our guest is today! That's right, Wiltfong himself. Sit back and listen to a complete review of why Adeleye chose Ohio State, who could follow and other anecdotal examples of why the Buckeyes are recruiting at a level never seen before. Which teams will be in the running for the 2020 college football national championship? Bill "Bank" Greene joins Dave Biddle for a lengthy version of the Monday 5ish to do a deep dive on that, plus: Who will have a better NFL career: Joe Burrow or Baker Mayfield? What do fans need to know about the nation's No. 2 middle linebacker prospect, Reid Carrico? Bucknuts Almost Live: ESPN NFL scribe John Keim on Chase Young, Dwayne Haskins, Terry McLaurin
Every Buckeye that comes to Columbus does so with an eye on the NFL. Most are the best player to ever don the pads in their hometown and the idea of making a living in pro football is a major reason Ohio State was their choice of college. While every other real sporting event (see: H-O-R-S-E isn't a sport) has been - at best - postponed ... the NFL Draft will go on. That means Ohio State takes center stage once again. Defensive stars Chase Young and Jeffrey Okudah lead double-digit Buckeyes into the annual affair. So who better to break it all down than a scribe with 26 years experience covering the NFL. What if we could make said scribe an expert on the Redskins, an Ohio State graduate and former Lantern sports editor? Well, we did just that. Today, we are joined on a mega-length pod by John Keim, ESPN's Redskins reporter ... and yes, he is a Buckeye. So it back and enjoy Keim's commentary on Washington's interest in Young, how Dwayne Haskins and Terry McLaurin are faring, why Michigan's Jon Jansen once threw him in an ice bath and so much more. Should there be an 8-team playoff in college football?
Should there be an eight-team playoff in college football, as opposed to four-game playoff? That is the main topic of discussion as Patrick Murphy drops by to pinch hit for Jonah Booker on the Friday show. Also on the docket: * Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith will have a teleconference with local OSU beat writers today at 10 a.m. What are we most interested in hearing from Smith? What will he say about the 2020 college football season and some plans that are being debated? * Is there a culture problem with Ohio State's men's basketball program? Or are all the transfers simply a sign of the times in college sports? All of that and more is coming your way on the Friday 5ish. Filling final spots? | Previewing 247Sports rankings update
Ohio State has 15 commitments in its No. 1-rated Class of 2021 haul thus far. How will the class finish up? How many rooms at The Inn are open? You know the targets from Seattle and Florida. But are there other prospects who could be added to the fold? 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong is here with four names that maybe haven't gotten enough attention from us. We take care of that today. Wiltfong has the absolute latest on how Ohio State feels about: * Jager Burton * Jantzen Dunn * Tony Grimes * Hudson Wolfe And that's not it! Why are ADs, coaches pushing back on playing college football with no fans in the stands? Is that not better than the alternative?
An action-packed, 21-minute edition of the Wednesday 5ish coming your way? You had better believe it. The People's Champ, Matt Baxendell, joins Dave Biddle for his usual midweek visit, and there is plenty on the agenda. * Who will be Ohio State's top-three leading rushers in 2020? * Who will be the Buckeyes' top-three leading receivers? * The NFL Draft is exactly two weeks and one day away, and we are fired up about it. Also, the draft is going to shatter ratings records. * The biggest discussion on the show is regarding some college athletic directors and head coaches pushing back on the idea of playing games with no fans in the stands. No one wants to see that happen, but what would you rather have: No football at all, or football with no fans in the stands? Exactly. All of that and more is in store for you on the Wednesday 5ish. Malone's tone | Also: Ohio State > Michigan ... why?
There are two topics bubbling about the Buckeyes these days: * Topic One: Ohio State recruiting is incredible. The latest big timer to get Crystal Balled to the good guys: Tywone Malone. Will the New Jersey native and two-sport star (a 305-pound baseball player?) opt for Team Greg or Team Ryan? * Topic Two: Michigan can't hang with Ohio State. Why is that? Multiple podcasts and Internet inches have been devoted to the question. Duane Long is here to tackle both topics. Both topics were decleated. Spend 5ish with us this a.m., 'Nutters! Optimism that football season could start on time? Latest on OSU recruiting
President Donald Trump held a conference call with the commissioners of the major professional sports leagues in North America on Saturday. Per ESPN, Trump expressed confidence that the NFL season would start on time in September. If the NFL starts on time, one would have to think that bodes very well for the 2020 college football season being played. Now, it must be pointed out that some governors -- such as Gavin Newsom of California -- do not share Trump's optimism that the NFL season will start on time. But even if football season starts late with no fans in the stands, sign us up for that. Bill "Bank" Greene joins Dave Biddle on today's show to discuss that, plus: * What is the latest on the recruiting front for Ohio State? * Specifically, where do the Buckeyes stand with 2021 defensive tackles Tywone Malone and Marcus Bradley? * What about Terrence Lewis? What's going on with him? * Which of the top targets on OSU's board might announce their commitments over the next month or two? * What was the deal with eBay temporarily suspending Chris Spielman's account on Sunday? Bucknuts Almost Live: NFL Draft guru breaks down Buckeyes
Good morning, Bucknutters! Hopefully this 'unannounced' podcast is a way for you to spend some quality Ohio State time today or whenever. 'Bucknuts Almost Live' was our in-season podcast used to wrap up games and set up the week ahead. Uhh ... things have changed for everyone since the football season. So we thought it would be a good idea to bring back the Sunday podcast to help with our 'Nutters getting through the extended homebody assignment. Now, it's pretty clear this podcast won't follow the same format it did during the season. It will be more of a guest-driven pod for interviews that maybe go even longer than the usual five minutes on the BM5 (we kid, we kid). Our guest today is Dane Brugler, NFL Draft Analyst from The Athletic. He provides the best possible breakdown you can get of the Buckeyes aiming to hear their name called later this month. But we could use your help: Who would you like to hear from on 'Bucknuts Almost Live'? Please use the thread below to offer suggestions. And enjoy today's show! How is Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields staying sharp during the coronavirus quarantine?
