Your opening day starting lineup
We've talked recruiting on the BM5 for several days and for good reason - the commitments keep coming. We don't expect that to end. In fact, you need to be on Bucknuts at 11:30 a.m. if you like recruiting and good things happening for the Buckeyes. But today's show is about the CURRENT collection of Buckeyes sweating at the WHAC. With the season opener against Florida Atlantic just over seven weeks from today, we take a shot at predicting Ohio State's starting lineup that day. There is still some intrigue there and at a few other spots. Who are your starters? Do they differ from Patrick's? Gotta tune in to find out! Spend 5ish with us this a.m.!!! Darrion Henry, c'mon down | Which recruits could be next for OSU?
Is Ohio State about to land the No. 2 player in the state of Ohio, a recruit who doubles as one of the top defensive tackle recruits in the country? It sure appears so. Darrion Henry from Cincinnati Princeton is set to make his announcement on Saturday, and the Buckeyes are the clear leader. Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle for his usual Friday visit to discuss that, plus: * If Henry does commit to OSU as expected, who might be the next two commits in the Buckeyes' 2020 class? * What is the latest with 5-star running back Bijan Robinson? Will he be a Buckeye? * Who are non-committed recruits that JBook really has his eye on? * What should be the "over/under" for Ohio State's win total during the 12-game regular season schedule in 2019? 'An incredible fit'
Let's make this clear: Elite recruits are buying what Ohio State is selling. Whether it is the Class of 2020 or 2021, the Buckeyes are adding elite talent on what seems like a daily basis. Why? 247Sports Director of Recruiting is here to break it down. It's not just the quality of football or chance to go to the NFL. It's the people. What does that mean? Wiltfong explains. In detail. And you will like it. Along the way, he also shares the latest on Ben Christman, Josh Fryar, Bijan Robinson, Cameron Martinez and much more. The show includes the usual great insights from Joshua, as well as some hilarious quotes (none better than the one that involves former OSU coach and current Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell). Joshua also answers questions on everything from what went wrong on the Buckeyes' offense in 2015, to what went wrong with the defense schematically in 2018, to what fans can expect from the new defensive coaches this year. Lethal Lathan? Bijan the Buckeye?
Is Ohio State about to raid Tucson, Ariz., for two of the top prospects in the country in the 2020 class? It sure seems to be trending in that direction. The Buckeyes have perhaps emerged as the frontrunner for 5-star running back Bijan Robinson from Salpointe Catholic High School. And Ohio State has reportedly established itself as the leader for his high school teammate, high 4-star safety Lathan Ransom. Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle on today's show to discuss that, plus: Does OSU also lead for 4-star WR Mookie Cooper, 4-star OLB/DE Mitchell Melton and 3-star athlete/safety Cameron Martinez? * How many prospects will be in Ohio State's 2020 class, and how high will Ryan Day's first class be ranked in the 247Sports Composite? * Is the media and the NCAA looking the other way on the stories about PED use at Clemson, and booster involvement at LSU? The Joshua Perry Show: 'Tuf's job to lose' | Zach Smith's podcast trustworthy?
We have a wide-ranging episode of The Joshua Perry Show today. And yes, the pros certainly out-weigh the cons. * What is the latest at the middle linebacker position for the Buckeyes entering the 2019 season? * Zach Smith's podcast Menace 2 Society is a smash hit and always has plenty of interesting stories from his days at OSU. Ty Hamilton commits to Ohio State | Which recruits will be next?

Bill "Bank" Greene joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, plus: * Who is on "commit watch" for the Buckeyes over the next few weeks? * Running back recruiting is really heating up for OSU. Mass exodus at Penn State? Buckeyes keep gaining momentum
Despite finishing with a 9-4 record last season, Penn State appeared to be a program with a lot of momentum in terms of recruiting. The Nittany Lions got off to a very good start with their 2020 class and appeared to be a lock to finish in the top-10 of the 247Sports Composite team rankings. However, this week alone they have had a trio of 4-star prospects de-commit, and have fallen to the No. 20 class in the land. This is on the heels of several players transferring from the program in the weeks and months following the 2018 season. Is this just an unlucky stretch for head coach James Franklin and PSU? Or is there more at play behind the scenes? Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle for his usual Friday visit to discuss that, plus: * Ohio State has the No. 8 class in the country so far for 2020. How high might head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes finish this cycle? Are OSU fans looking at a top-5 class? Perhaps top-3? * What are thoughts thus far on Ohio State first-year quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Mike Yurcich? * The Buckeye coaches have not said sophomore Justin Fields will be the starting QB. They are saying it will be a competition with fourth-year junior Gunnar Hoak, who transferred from Kentucky last month. What is to be made of that? Will Petit-Frere be a starter this season?
Ohio State redshirt freshman offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere was the No. 1-ranked OT in the country in the 2018 class, per the 247Sports Composite. Will Petit-Frere be a starter for the Buckeyes this fall? Or will he be more like a sixth man? That is one of the many topics on today's show as The People's Champ, Matt Baxendell, joins Dave Biddle. Also on the docket: * What is to be made of the information from Joshua Perry that the Buckeyes are doing "more running than ever" this summer? * Who will be the Buckeyes' starting safety opposite Jordan Fuller? * Recruiting is really heating up for Ohio State. The latest news is that the Crystal Ball projections favor the Buckeyes to land high 4-star cornerback Clark Phillips out of California. All of that and more on the midweek extravaganza. Buckeyes flip 4-star OT from Penn State
Urban Meyer was known for breaking out the spatula on the recruiting trail. It seems he has taught Ryan Day well. Day and the Buckeyes flipped 4-star offensive tackle Grant Toutant from Penn State to Ohio State on Sunday night. Did this come out of the blue? And what does it mean for OSU? The Dean of Ohio State Football Recruiting, Bill Kurelic, joins Dave Biddle to talk all thing Toutant, plus: * Where do things stand with Paris Johnson and Darrion Henry, the two top recruits in Ohio? * On the tight end recruiting front, was the Dean surprised that Joe Royer got offered by the Buckeyes, and Luke Lachey was not? * What is the latest with 5-star running back Kendall Milton? * How many recruits will OSU likely take in its 2020 class? JBook responds to Milton controversy | OSU one-day camp notes
Our own Jonah Booker caused a little bit of a stir on Twitter when he posted that Ohio State is the clear leader for 5-star running back Kendall Milton. Milton's father, Chris Milton, was not a fan of JBook's tweet, and made that quite clear on the social media platform. Until now, JBook has not said a word about the "controversy." But he talks about it on today's show with Dave Biddle. Then the show moves on to: * Discussion about OSU's one-day camp on Thursday. What stood out the most? * Are things looking really good for the Buckeyes when it comes to Paris Johnson and Darrion Henry? * Is Trey Leroux a much better prospect than his ranking indicates? Defensive recruits on deck? 'Bases loaded, nobody out'
Ohio State only has one defensive commit so far in its 2020 class. However, are several defensive commits on the verge of committing to Ryan Day and the Buckeyes? Bill "Bank" Greene thinks so. Bank joins Dave Biddle for today's show and believes that the "bases are loaded with nobody out" in terms of defensive recruits for OSU. Now, Day and his staff need to bring the runners home. A deeper discussion on that is coming at you, plus: * Will the Jaheim Thomas situation impact Paris Johnson and/or Darrion Henry as it pertains to Ohio State? * What is Bank hearing about OSU's defensive coaches, specificially their recruiting acumen? You know the names: Garrett Wilson, Jameson Williams, Gee Scott, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Julian Fleming. Then there is Justin Fields and Jack Miller. There are more names, too. But if you want quarterbacks and wide receivers, those names will do. And do well. The combination of Ryan Day and Brian Hartline (among others) on Ohio State's staff has amped QB and WR recruiting to levels not seen before. And want some more good news? There are no signs of slippage on the horizon. Join us today to discuss that, Kendall Milton, Mookie Cooper and more with the Dean of Ohio State Recruiting, our very own Bill Kurelic. The Joshua Perry Show: What it's like on day 1 for a freshman
Have you ever been curious what it is like on the first day a freshman joins a college football team? Well, you came to the right place. On today's edition of The Joshua Perry Show, the former Ohio State linebacker, national champion, captain and NFL player, explains the thoughts running through the head of an 18-year-old kid (or 16 if you're Parris Campbell) who has suddenly joined a group of grown men. Also, can players tell on day one that certain freshmen are never going to be good enough to make it at a place like Ohio State? Speaking of players enrolling, 11 members of the Buckeyes' 2019 recruiting class enrolled recently. What is Joshua hearing about that group? And just how much power does Mark Pantoni have when it comes to deciding who gets scholarship offers from OSU? All of that and more on this edition of The Joshua Perry Show. 'Another in the Buckeyes' offensive recruiting roll'
Slow your roll? Not if you are head coach Ryan Day, wide receivers coach Brian Hartline and running backs coach Tony Alford, who continue to make waves on the offensive recruiting front for Ohio State. The nation's No. 1 wide receiver recruit in the 2020 class -- Julian Fleming -- picked the Buckeyes over Penn State and Clemson on Friday. Could 5-star running back Kendall Milton be next to join OSU's 2020 class? He had his official visit to Ohio State over the weekend and it went very well. Steve Helwagen joins Dave Biddle to discuss all of that, plus: * The rise of Brian Hartline as a coaching and recruiting superstar. * Is linebacker a concern for Ohio State in 2019? Or could it end up being a strength? * Did you know that Helwagen is a highly-requested speaker to OSU football groups/alumni groups? Well, now you do, and Steve will tell you an interesting story from his speech in St. Petersburg, Fla., this weekend. All of that and more on the Monday extravaganza. Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle to discuss Fleming perhaps becoming a Buckeye, plus: * Thoughts on 5-star running back Kendall Milton making his official visit to OSU this weekend, and where the Buckeyes stand with him. * We were already excited about Ohio State redshirt freshman running back Master Teague. Then he was recently clocked in the 4.3s in the 40, and our excitement level increased even more. * What are takeaways from Zach Smith's new podcast, Menace 2 Society? The No. 1 left tackle. The No. 1 center. The No. 1 wide receiver. The No. 2 quarterback. The No. 3 running back. What would happen if they all got together and committed to one school? You'd have Ohio State's Class of 2020 haul ... probably. And what would 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong say about the move from Urban Meyer to Ryan Day if the above scenario happens? Building foundation with Five Stars?
The top-rated wide receiver recruit in program history? The top-rated offensive line recruit in program history? Yes, we are talking Ohio State's 'possible' Class of 2020. And yes, we are being realistic. Julian Fleming, a Pennsylvania native and the nation's No. 1 receiver, will announce his commitment on Friday. Paris Johnson, a Cincinnati native and the nation's No. 1 left tackle recruit, just visited LSU but has one official visit left. How confident should we be that both will be Buckeyes? Who else to ask other than the Dean of Ohio State Recruiting ... our very own Bill Kurelic. The Dean educates all on Fleming, Johnson and a power-packed recruiting schedule for June that could set up Ohio State for some time. Spend 5ish with us today, 'Nutters! Putting Paris in perspective
If the "Blind Side" was being made today, Paris Johnson would likely get a call from the film's casting director. The Class of 2020 star and Cincinnati native recently transferred fro St. Xavier to Princeton so he can graduate early and is THE left tackle prototype: 6-foot-7, 290 pounds, great feet, great frame, great ... you get the picture. Instead of taking the Hollywood route, Johnson is currently verbally committed to Ohio State. But the Urban Meyer-to-Ryan Day transition meant Johnson's recruitment hit the reset button. So far, so good. 247Sports Director of Recruiting is jet-setting across the lower 48 but made some time for us to talk Johnson and much more after seeing him workout in person recently. We also go into detail on other offensive linemen that could be future Buckeyes as the recruiting trail gets heated. Prime targets headed elsewhere? Former targets coming back into focus? Who are the top-12 players on Ohio State's football roster in 2019? That is the question The People's Champ, Matt Baxendell, and Dave Biddle will answer on today's show. Who is No. 1 on the list? Where does new quarterback Justin Fields rank? We will go in reverse order 12-1, and we hope that you will include your personal top-12 in the comments section. Five stars in focus
Can you imagine Justin Fields handing the ball to Kendall Milton, who darts around the end courtesy of a Paris Johnson pancake block? And can you imagine it setting up some play-action love as Fields hits wide receiver Justin Fleming for six? Let your imagination run wild ... because that could become reality. All three Class of 2020 five-stars could don the Scarlet and Gray. The Joshua Perry Show: Recruiting concerns on defense?
We are back with this week's edition of The Joshua Perry Show. On today's show, the former Ohio State linebacker, national champion, captain and NFL player joins Dave Biddle to discuss the following: * The Buckeyes only have one defensive commitment in their 2020 recruiting class, exactly seven months from the early signing period in December. Is Joshua concerned? Why or why not? * Does Joshua like the early signing period? * How long does it usually take for transfers to get acclimated to their new programs? * What are thoughts on OSU's defensive tackles for the 2019 season? How good, or great, is this group? * Some former players -- like Michael Thomas -- have said that they think practices during the Urban Meyer era were more grueling than what some of them saw when they visited OSU and watched a spring practice or two this year. Thomas was somewhat joking it appears, but many fans have asked if the new coaching staff is too soft on the players. Joshua answers that question, and gives his usual unique perspective and insights. All of that and more is coming at you on The Joshua Perry Show. Introducing Ohio State's D-line, aka 'The Crushmen'
Ohio State's defensive line has a "Rushmen" package when the Buckeyes deploy four D-ends at the same time. However, analyzing Ohio State's defensive line as a whole, an accurate nickname might be "The Crushmen." Why? Because this group is loaded with experience and talent, and might be the deepest D-line to come through Columbus. Which, would be saying a lot considering some of the deep defensive lines we've seen from OSU over the years. The group is especially deep at defensive tackle, where a guy like Antwuan Jackson might be the seventh-best D-tackle on the squad. Yes, a former 5-star recruit who is coming off a good spring is probably behind the likes of BB Landers, Davon Hamilton, Tommy Togiai, Jashon Cornell, Taron Vincent and Haskell Garrett in the pecking order. And that's not a knock against Jackson. It is to illustrate the incredible depth of this unit. Oh, and Larry Johnson's crew is plenty deep and talented at defensive end as well, led by All-American candidate Chase Young. The People's Champ, Matt Baxendell, joins Dave Biddle on today's show for a close look at the defensive line, plus: * What type of scheduling philosophy should Ohio State have for non-conference games? Play as tough a schedule as possible, or try and set up as many easy wins as possible? What is best for the fans? What is best for the program? * Will we be rooting for Tate Martell at Miami this year? * What are expectations for Justin Fields' first season as Ohio State's starting quarterback? Best wide receiver haul ... ever?
Ohio State has been fortunate to attract some great receivers in its storied history. Just last season, the Buckeyes added a 5-star from Texas in Garrett Wilson. So what about an encore? Oh, there is one coming alright. The Buckeyes already have commitments from Gee Scott and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. For some programs, two top 30 wide receivers would be cause for celebration. Here? Not so much. Crystal Balls are rolling in avalanche fashion for Julian Fleming to become a member of the Scarlet and Gray. Fleiming is the nation's No. 1 wide receiver. But ... what if there was even more wide receiver help on the way? It sounds almost like too much, right? Well, it's not and the Dean of Ohio State Recruiting - Bill Kurelic - is here to tell you why. Kurelic - filling in for an ailing Duane Long - also goes into detail on Mitchell Melton, Michael Carmody and how Michigan's basketball program just took a direct shot to the stones. Almost every OSU fan would say the same thing when asked about the defense. Will the starter be Tuf Borland, Teradja Mitchell or Baron Browning? Will there be a rotation? He's basically and Urban Meyer holdover recruit. What gives?
