Ep 918How A Guy Named Gunnar Made An Online Whole Foods For People Who Aren't Rich.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/gunnar Let's face it: grocery shopping to get high quality organic food at a reasonable price isn't easy. And sure - while getting fresh, local fruits, vegetables and meats - which should always be at the core of a healthy diet - you can use farmer's markets, CSAs and local grocers. But when it comes to packaged healthy goods, from nori wraps to coconut milk to gluten-free baking powders and beyond -there's a host of options out there: Amazon, Vitacost, Walmart, Safeway...the list goes on and on. However, when it comes to buying online organic food, you'd be surprised at what you're about to discover on today's podcast with Gunnar Lovelace. Gunnar is a serial entrepreneur focused on business and health as vehicles for social change. He is the founder of Thrive Market, which is making healthy living accessible to Americans by providing the most popular organic and non-GMO groceries at what he claims is 25-50% off normal retail prices. He is also the co-founder and co-owner of Love Heals - a jewelry business in more than 200 high-end retail stores and with over 75 employees. To date, LoveHeals has funded the planting of over 1,500,000 trees and sponsored over 50,000 malnourished children. Prior to Love Heals, Gunnar started two technology companies in Los Angeles in software education and natural language processing. In addition to his for-profit companies, Gunnar has started two non-profits in education and environmental sustainability. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Gunnar grew up poor, yet still eating foods like kale and sprouts and kombucha...[7:25] -Gunnar's secret to never getting sick, and his top three supplements...[12:55] -What goes on "behind the scenes" that allows Gunnar to provide organic groceries delivered to people with free shipping at a 25-50% discount...[17:25] -Whether shopping for groceries online leaves a big carbon footprint and disrupt community small businesses...[24:30] -How to make "cardboard" packaging out of compostable mushrooms or dirt...[28:00] -Gunnar's favorite superfoods, including sprouted chia, coconut wraps, coconut manna, sprouted granola and more...[32:45 & 49:40] -If Amazon Prime is so convenient, since you can buy a friggin' alarm clock and book at the same time I'm buying my canned coconut milk, why Thrive is any better than Amazon...[39:30] -What Gunnar thinks of the Amazon acquisition of Whole Foods...[42:20] -What is Love Heals? https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/daphne Ever since a high school biology teacher informed Daphne Miller that clover produces a hormone similar to human estrogen, she has been fascinated by how our external ecosystem is linked to our internal one. Miller is a practicing family physician, author and Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco. Ep 910How Sound Healing Works, Why Most Music Is At The Wrong Frequency, The Best Music For Sleep & Much More With Wholetones Composer Michael Tyrrell.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/lullaby Composer Michael Tyrrell first appeared on my website in the podcast episode "Unleashing The Phenomenon Of Using Sound & Music For Performance, Recovery, Healing & More." In that episode, I describe how, at a health summit, someone handed me a book called “The Sound Of Healing”, written by Michael - along with a handful of CD’s that Michael had recorded. These CD’s, called “Wholetones” were described on the cover as music that “heals, repairs, and protects against disease.” So, skeptical but curious, I sat down and read the entire Sound Of Healing book, and I began occasionally listening to the CD’s while driving, while getting a massage, while sitting in my sauna, etc. Every time I finished a CD, I had such a unique feeling of elation and satisfaction after listening, I downloaded a digital tuning app and retuned my guitar and my ukelele to the “frequencies” Michael described in the book. This may all seem a bit “woo-woo”, but it made a huge difference in the ability of a song to make me feel uplifted and full of positive energy as I played it. During that episode with Michael, we discussed why the music and sound you listen to every day is not tuned the right way and can actually be destroying organ function, how sound frequencies affect the human body, water, plants and more, how to “re-tune” music and sound to heal organs and provide therapy to the body, how to combine light and sound to de-stress your body, why digital sound from CD’s and mp3’s are not as good as analog sound from things like vinyl albums (and what you can do about it if you don’t want to buy a vinyl record turntable), the best way to use the sound to heal your body and to target specific organ systems, what Michael thinks about the use of tuning forks as vibrational sound therapy, and how a musician can “re-tune” their instrument to the correct frequency. So who is this guy? Michael is the founder and president of Wholetones, Inc., a healing frequency music project that helps aid health, creativity, productivity and wellbeing. After recording seven songs at different frequency levels, Michael released his album, Wholetones, accompanied by his book titled “Wholetones: The Sound of Healing” in 2014. Passionate about musical healing, Michael travels nationally and internationally as a key-note and motivational speaker on the power of musical therapy. Always connected to music, Michael bought his first guitar at the age of 10, which later lead him to study classical guitar with Joseph Lazarro, a protégée of the “grandfather of the classical guitar,”Andre Segovia. In recent years, Michael has traveled and ministered withChristian singer-songwriter, Jason Upton, and toured and recorded with Rick Pino and Fire Rain ministries. In 1987, Michael worked with Gospel Hall of Famer, Mylon Lefevre, and his band Mylon and Broken Heart, earning him a GMA Dove Award as well as a Grammy award. Michael has been in full time ministry for the last 26 years and has toured and played with many well-known Christian and secular bands. His experience as a youth pastor, worship leader, accomplished musician, producer and itinerant speaker has allowed his personal music frequency project to transcend international borders. Michael currently resides with his wife, Lillian, in Margate, Florida. He just released a brand new set of Wholetones music called "Life, Love & Lullabies". Life, Love & Lullabies is comprised of six beautiful songs, each approximately 30 minutes in length designed to help you fall asleep and stay asleep. I've been playing it for my kids and also for relaxing evenings in my infrared sauna. During today's discussion with Michael, you'll discover: -My sound healing session with a guy named Porungai in Sedona, who had a vibrating sound table and played didgeridoo, gongs, crystal bowls, etc. combined with bodywork...[11:10] -How sound effects the human body and human cells, and what kind of science or research is out there on the effect of sound frequencies on the human body...[18:00] -Why Michael tunes his instruments to the frequency that he does, and why some music is actually damaging to the human body...[24:45] -Why Michael almost fell asleep in the studio while recording "Life, Love & Lullabies", and how it is supposed to affect sleep...[42:20] -The details behind the six pieces in Life, Love & Lullabies, and how each is different...[50:55] -The best way to listen to Michael's tracks (bedside speakers vs. headphones vs. CD player, etc.)...[55:25] -Why Michael designed a specific sound frequency for pets...[61:28] -And much more... https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/mindlift Kasper van der Meulen is an author and lifestyle adventurer. He went from being overweight, burnt out and unhappy, to developing what he calls "superhuman focus, fitness and personal freedom". With over ten thousand hours of experience in teaching science, self-mastery and innovation, he decided to demystify and methodize these principles in a fun and bitesized manner. https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/movementmatters She taught us how to look like a million bucks from head to toe in the podcast episode: "Making Biomechanics Fun: How to Fix Your Body, Align Your Posture and Look Like a Million Bucks From Head To Toe." Then she told us why kegel exercises suck, and why most ab exercises are useless in the podcast: "Why You Shouldn’t Suck In Your Stomach, Why Standing All Day Is Bad For You, And How Kegels Are Killing Your Core." Today's she's back to take a deep dive into her new book "Movement Matters: Essays on Movement Science, Movement Ecology, and the Nature of Movement". And her name, if you haven't guessed yet, is Katy Bowman. Part biomechanist, part science communicator, and full-time mover, Katy has educated hundreds of thousands of people on the role movement plays in the body and in the world. Movement Matters is a collection of essays in which biomechanist Katy Bowman continues her groundbreaking investigation of the mechanics of our sedentary culture and the profound potential of human movement. Here she widens her You are how you move message and invites us to consider our personal relationship with sedentarism, privilege, and nature. Bowman explores: -How convenience often means less movement, not more time -The missing movement nutrients in our food -How to include more nature in education -The impact of adding movement to permaculture and ecological models -Our need for vitamin community and group movement Unapologetically direct, often hilarious, and always compassionate, Movement Matters demonstrates that human movement is powerful and important, and that living a movement-filled life is perhaps the most joyful and efficient way to transform your body, community, and world. Ep 903"The Energy": How A Gastroenterologist Physician Tapped Into 5,000 Year Old Deep Eastern Secrets To Unlock Limitless Cognitive, Spiritual & Physical Power.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/energy I first mentioned Barry Morguelan in my review of Dave Asprey's book "Headstrong". In a section of the book, Dave describes something called mitochondrial meditation, and I was actually quite intrigued… “I have been meditating for years, and in many different ways (including with lots of sensors glued to my head), but I wanted the Head Strong meditation to specifically benefit your mitochondria. So I sought out a five-thousand-year-old Chinese energetic medicine practice used to protect China’s emperors. It translates to New Life Energy, and Dr. Barry Morguelan is one of twelve remaining grandmasters of this form of training in the world, as well as a highly respected UCLA surgeon. He spent years at the top of a mountain in China while he was growing his Western medicine practice, studying and doing the kind of training where you sit with your shirt off and learn to melt snow around you with your body heat. Talk about mitochondrial function! Barry is one of the most powerful energy medicine workers I have ever met; he has helped me in many tangible ways, he has treated the presidents of multiple countries, and he flies in for Tony Robbins’s big events to help keep Tony’s impressive energy at its peak. I could not imagine a more qualified person to design this meditation for you. The entire practice of New Life Energy is built around increasing and controlling the mitochondria, allowing them to create more energy and to direct it with more power. This is a core meditation from the practice, one Dr. Barry selected specifically for mitochondrial function. There are no clinical studies of this specific form, but I’m happy to go with five thousand years of observation from the creators of this school of energy medicine. And if I’m wrong, it’s still an amazing meditation!” Needless to say, I was intrigued. So I hunted down Dr. Barry and got him onto the podcast. Who is this guy, exactly? Turns out that Dr. Barry graduated from the University of Louisville Medical School in 1973. He is a double board certified Gastroenterologist and Internal Medicine doctor trained at UCLA and now practicing in Los Angeles. Throughout his time as a western doctor, he has been profoundly interested in cutting-edge techniques that would more efficiently treat, heal and prevent disease. In 1980, Dr. Barry Morguelan’s desire to advance the western medical field resulted in a worldwide search for alternative forms of healing that could complement western medicine. The Asian symbol of wholeness, the Yin/Yang, is an analogy representing the complement for which he was looking. If Western medicine is one side of the Yin/Yang symbol, then the other side of the symbol is what his worldwide search was seeking. He learned many alternative practices over a ten year period of time. In 1990, after extensive worldwide travel, Dr. Barry Morguelan began exploring China. He exchanged his work as an accomplished Gastroenterologist and Internal Medicine physician for information on Chinese healing methods. During this time he was introduced to a select group of people in remote areas of China who resolved multiple illnesses without drugs or surgery. He realized that this was the modality he had been searching for all these years and which could powerfully complement western medicine. Energy For Success (EFS) was created by Dr. B to provide people with access to the energy source he discovered that profoundly supports success towards personally defined goals. In addition to achieving personal success, people have found that by learning how to use this Energy in their everyday lives gives them a greater sense of peace and fulfillment. EFS believes that this unique method can be used on a global scale to achieve peace throughout the world. This unprecedented opportunity to affect positive global change is what fuels Energy For Success. Since its creation, EFS has supported world leaders, entrepreneurs, health-care professionals, scientists, professional athletes, attorneys, politicians, teachers, moms, dads and many more. Energy For Success provides the support necessary to stay connected to this Energy in order to successfully accomplish your personal goals while simultaneously enhancing relationships in your personal life, local community and ultimately the world. Dr. B was invited by the elite group he found in China to train in an over 5,000-year-old system of Energy Treatments referred to as the “Grow Younger” Treatments. He traveled to China several months each year to undergo the rigorous training that was required. He accomplished this while still operating his western medical practice in Los Angeles. In 2000, Dr. B began offering his Energy Treatments to the public. The Energy Treatments that Dr. B provides reacquaint one with the core and sacred body of Energy that they had as a child. This Energy may be used in developing a successful life and is a vibration that connects one to lifeforce. It can connect

Ep 902Ben Greenfield In The Hotseat: An Exclusive Sneak-Peek Into Ben's Life Journey, The Launch Of Kion & Much More.

https://getkion.com/ben In today's podcast, the roles have been reversed... ...*I* am the interviewee. This rare, up close and personal interview is a continuation of my recent four-part series. If you haven't been following along, you can click to read Parts One, Two, Three, and Four. If you have been following along, you've already learned about my two-year journey into creating my brand new company, Kion, by answering the question that I pondered while roaming a Kauai beach two years ago... ...is it time to move on? Should I take two decades of time spent immersed in the fitness trenches, over 4,000 health books consumed, a Master's degree in physiology and biomechanics, voracious studying of every nutrition, digestion and diet tactic in existence, hardcore lessons learned from subjecting my body and brain to the most masochistic events on the face of the planet, ten years of researching and answering podcast questions on everything from muscle gain to memory to migraines… …and simply walk away? Or… …is it time to take my years of “dabbling” in the fitness industry and actually do something that helps people on a much more massive scale than me writing exercise programs, making naked YouTube videos of cold showers, running around in the forest throwing spears at hay bales and hacking together superfood smoothies in my kitchen? Is it time to be open to greatness? Be open to bringing to this world on a much more massive scale everything I've learned traveling the globe interviewing the world’s longest living, happiest, hard-charging, high-achievers, everything I've learned reading thousands of books and research papers on longevity, happiness, fulfillment, human potential, and everything I've learned immersing myself as a devoted student of the human body, mind, and spirit. Take that creativity, that curiosity, that thirst for knowledge, that education, that experience and that intuition and give it back to the world in a much, much bigger way than I ever have. Well, there's a lot more to the story than just what's happened the past couple years. So to give you the full scoop, I sat down with Kion's Chief Operating officer, Angelo Keely, for a deep-dive into my life up to this point. Ep 900Qigong 101 & Beyond: 100 Day Water Fasts, Crazy Healing Powers, Qi Balls, Sword Fingers & More With Qigong Master Robert Peng.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/peng Robert Peng is a world-renowned Qigong Master, healer, and author of "The Master Key: Qigong Secrets for Vitality, Love, and Wisdom" book, CD and DVD series. Robert was born and raised in Hunan, China. At age eight, he began an intensive apprenticeship under the close guidance of the legendary monk Xiao Yao, an enlightened master known for his profound healing ability and martial arts skill. At age fifteen, Robert performed a 100 day water fast in a small dark room at a secluded monastery in the remote mountains of Hunan province. He underwent a radical spiritual transformation and awakened amazing healing powers. Master Xiao Yao encouraged Robert to develop his healing skills by studying with other Chinese masters. He pursued his training quietly while attending university in Changsha where he majored in English Literature. When he was twenty-nine years old, he began to teach publicly, and within five years he had trained over 150,000 students all over China. With his deep understanding and practice of this ancient Chinese healing art of Qigong, and with extensive life and teaching experience in the western world, Robert has developed a unique way to teach Qigong that people from different culture can easily understand and follow but meanwhile still enjoy the real essence of this ancient Chinese art of wisdom, love and vitality. In 1997, Robert was invited to relocate to Australia. Seven years later, he moved to New York City. And it was to his New York City offices where I traveled - all the way from Washington State - for a personal one-on-one deep dive into Qigong with the man himself, Robert Peng. During the fascinating discussion that ensued, you'll discover: -Why Robert went form severe pain at eight years old to discovering the mysterious "Mr. Tan"...[8:22] -How Robert's master stopped a raging bull with his bare hands...[16:55] -Why Robert held "horse stance" in a trance for over 4 hours...[18:35] -What he discovered during a 100 day water fast in a small dark room and his radical spiritual transformation that occurred afterwards...[25:35] -How to gather nutrients with the way that you breathe...[39:30] -How Robert "zaps" people with healing powers...[43:40] -Research into the physical benefits of Qi Gong, like anti-aging, lower cortisol and lower blood pressure...[46:50] -The six emotions that humans worry about, and how Qi Gong addresses each...[49:45] -The first exercise you should do if you want to experience Qi or "awaken Qi power" if you have never have done Qi Gong before...[54:03] -The three dantians and the different types of imbalances that can arise if your dantians are not all strong...[59:55] -How you can "secretly" practice Qi Gong 24 hours a day...[65:15] -And much more! Ep 897What A Christian-Libertarian-Environmentalist-Capitalist-Lunatic-Farmer Can Teach You About How To Eat, How To Shop & How To Think About The Way We Farm & Feed The World.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/pignessofpigs In today's podcast, I interview Joel F. Salatin - a self-described “Christian-libertarian-environmentalist-capitalist-lunatic-Farmer”. We discuss his new book The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs and much, much more. Salatin is an American farmer, lecturer, and author. He raises livestock using holistic methods of animal husbandry, free of potentially harmful chemicals, on his Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley. Meat from the farm is sold by direct-marketing to consumers and restaurants. In high school, Salatin began his own business selling rabbits, eggs, butter and chicken from his family farm at the Staunton Curb Market. He then attended Bob Jones University where he majored in English and was a student leader. He graduated in 1979. Salatin married his childhood sweetheart in 1980 and became a feature writer at the Staunton, Virginia newspaper, The News Leader, where he had worked earlier typing obituaries and police reports. Tired of “having his stories spiked,” he decided to try farming full-time after first getting involved in a walnut-buying station run by two high school boys. Salatin’s grandfather had been an avid gardener and beekeeper and a follower of J. I. Rodale, the founder of regenerative organic gardening. Salatin’s father worked as an accountant and his mother taught high school physical education. Salatin’s parents had bought the land that became Polyface after losing a farm in Venezuela to political turmoil. They had raised cattle using organic methods, but could not make a living at farming alone. Salatin, a self-described “Christian-libertarian-environmentalist-capitalist-lunatic-Farmer” produces high-quality “beyond organic” meats, which are raised using environmentally responsible, ecologically beneficial, sustainable agriculture. Jo Robinson, the author of Pasture Perfect: The Far-Reaching Benefits of Choosing Meat, Eggs and Dairy Products From Grass-Fed Animals (2004) said of Salatin, “He’s not going back to the old model. There’s nothing in county extension or old-fashioned ag science that really informs him. He is just looking totally afresh at how to maximize production in an integrated system on a holistic farm. He’s just totally innovative.” Salatin considers his farming a ministry, and he condemns the negative impact on his livelihood and lifestyle of what he considers an increasingly regulatory approach taken by the agencies of the United States government toward farming. Salatin now spends a hundred days a year lecturing at colleges and to environmental groups. And now from Christian libertarian farmer Joel Salatin is a new book - a clarion call to readers to honor the animals and the land, and produce food based on spiritual principles: The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs: Respecting and Caring for All God's Creation. This book is an important and thought-provoking explanation of how by simply appreciating the marvelous pigness of pigs, we are celebrating the Glory of God. As a man of deep faith and student of the Bible, and as a respected and successful ecological family farmer, Joel Salatin knows that God created heaven and earth and meant for all living organisms to be true to their nature and their endowed holy purpose. He intended for us to respect and care for His gift of creation, not to ravage and mistreat it for our own pleasure or wealth. The example that inspires the book's title explains what Salatin means: when huge corporate farms confine pigs in cramped and dark pens, inject them with antibiotics and feed them herbicide-saturated food simply to increase profits, they are not respecting them as a creation of God or allowing them to express even their most rudimentary uniqueness - that special role that is part of His design. Every living organism has a God-given uniqueness to its life that must be honored and respected, and too often that is not happening today. Salatin shows us the long overlooked ethics and instructions in the Bible for how to eat, how to shop, how to think about how we farm and feed the world. Through scripture and Biblical stories, he shows us why it's more vital than ever to look to the good book rather than corporate America when feeding the country and your family. Salatin makes a compelling case for Christian stewardship of the earth and how it relates to every action we take regarding our food. He also opens our eyes to a common misconception many Christians may have about environmentalism: it's not a bad thing, and definitely not just the province of secular liberals; it's really a very good thing, part of heeding God's Word. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Why Joel calls his new book the Marvelous Pigness of Pigs...[7:10] -How Christians abuse God's creation, and what's wrong with the average church potluck...[9:10] -Examples of how even the Bible is chock full of animal rights...[19:17] -Why Christians should be devoted to soil development...[22:00] -How a church

Ep 892The Human Garage: Discover How To Reboot Your Body & Recharge Your Brain With The Most Advanced Form Of Bodywork That Exists.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/humangarage Last month, I ventured to a place called "The Human Garage" in Venice Beach, California... ...for an absolutely mind-blowing full body reboot that turned out to be the most unique mash-up of deep tissue body work, aromatherapy, energy healing and combination of ancestral methods and modern science that I've ever experienced in my life. Not kidding. I left as a new man with a new body. So what is the Human Garage? At Human Garage, they pursue the Power of Alignment, balancing both body and mind to maximize the innate capacities present in each of our bodies to heal. They utilize a systemic, hands-on approach to unwinding and rebalancing body and mind. They believe by locating and releasing the origin of the problem of pain, biomechanically and biochemically, the body begins to unwind and lays the foundation for the body to heal itself. They take clients through an unwinding process with a hands-on release therapy they created and designed to realign the body from the inside out. Their treatment is based on the belief that every person and every body is different. Their belief is that people ultimately know their own bodies better than anyone else and have to actively participate in its recovery. Unlike traditional modalities for treating pain, they believe in finding and treating the origin of discomfort to avoid chasing symptoms of pain and dysfunction. Their approach is based on a sound belief in the connection between body and mind and they offer a variety of services to bring the body back into balance. In addition to their unwinding and release alignment protocol, they also provide services such as nutritional supplementation and coaching, personal training and biomechanical development to maximize well-being and health. They also offer a wide variety of functional foods and hand-crafted essential oils to keep your body and mind happy, healthy, and in motion. On today's podcast with Human Garage founder Garry Lineham, you'll discover: -The story of how Garry went from a bed-bound ex-bodybuilder to completely reinventing and fixing his anatomy...[13:15] -Why most people (including doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists) don't see the full picture and "get it wrong" when it comes to permanently fixing your joint aches and pains...[17:00] -The surprising number of people who work on you all at the same time at the Human Garage (I personally had 4 people working on me at once)...[25:30 & 47:55] -How Garry "talks to your body" and asks it questions, then sense the response...[27:20 & 55:40] -Why Garry endorses high dose curcumin and ketones combined with one special ingredient (this one surprised me) to make his work even more effective...[83:00] -The "libido tea" and special "sprig water" Garry uses...[87:40 & 97:40] -Where essential oils and aromatherapy fit into the healing process, and how you can use them...[92:45] -How to incorporate sound healing and music into deep tissue therapy...[93:30] -And much more! Ep 887A Deep Brain Stimulation Device That Causes Your Body To Experience A Massive Natural Surge Of Dopamine & Serotonin...& Fall Into A State Of Deep Relaxation - No Drugs Required.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/electricfish If you read the recent article "The Story Of How An Electric Torpedo Fish Can Put You Into A State Of Deep Relaxation, Enhance Sleep & Eliminate Stress", then you're no doubt familiar with Kelly Roman... In that article, Kelly describes how, in 46 AD, the personal physician to the Roman Emperor Claudius applied an electric torpedo fish to the Emperor’s forehead to successfully relieve his migraines. Don't believe me? Check out “Thousands of Years Before Modern Electricity, Ancient Romans Used Electrotherapy to Effectively Treat Neurological Conditions“. Anyways, this first “wearable” was actually alive, and the “user experience” was provided by the twitching underbelly of the fish, which was enraged from being pulled out of the sea and which covered the top half of the patient’s face. It filled the patient’s nose with its fishy scent, and delivered at first a painful and then numbing electric shock (roughly the same voltage as a hairdryer dropped in a bathtub). “These are still the early days of wearable neurostimulation,” an ancient tech blogger would have reported, “But on the bright side, the device, while possessing eyes and teeth, is at least conveniently wireless.” Heh. Today we know that electrically stimulating the trigeminal nerve, which runs, in part, beneath the forehead, does in fact effectively suppress migraines. Indeed, the FDA approved the first wearable neurostimulation device to treat migraines in 2012 and like the torpedo fish, the wearable’s electrode is placed on the forehead. But the idea of using electrical stimulation to affect not only pain perception, but mood and sleep, arose more recently in human history, and in today's podcast with Kelly you'll not only discover the fascinating history of electrical stimulation for addressing cognitive issues, but you'll also discover how a small company called “Fisher Wallace” developed a brand new deep brain stimulation device called the "Circadia" that causes your body to experience a massive natural release of dopamine, serotonin and fall into a state of deep relaxation, no drugs required. Kelly co-founded Fisher Wallace Labs, a 10-year-old medical device company, where he leads product development, regulatory affairs, marketing, and VR strategy. Prior to Fisher Wallace, Kelly served as a business development executive at several media and technology companies, including Nielsen Media and the scientific journal Nature. Kelly is known in the medical device industry as leading the commercialization of medical grade, wearable neurostimulation. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The fascinating story of the electric torpedo fish that the ancient Romans used for neurostimulation...[9:15] -How electroconvulsive therapy got such a bad reputation...[13:10] -How two brothers called "the Liss brothers" fit in to bring electrostimulation to the modern psychiatric industry...[18:00] -How Kelly discovered the device that the Liss brothers created and turned it into the Fisher Wallace stimulator...[23:30] -Why electrostimulation has now entered the mainstream, and Kelly's thoughts on the new devices out there like Muse and Thync...[28:20] -How electrostimulation can be used to increase HRV, serotonin and dopamine and to decrease cortisol...[47:00] -How the Circadia devices compares to other sleep enhancing devices out there like Muse and Thync...[48:15] -And much more... Resources from this episode: -How To Get Your Own CIRCADIA®: Here's how you get one for yourself, along with a no-questions-asked 30 day refund and return guarantee. Ep 886The Science of Reading People, Captivating A Conversation, Interpreting Body Language, Decoding Facial Expressions & Much More!

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/captivate When I was attending University of Idaho, my roommate was one of the top vacuum cleaner salesman in the world. Believe it or not I've actually had him on the podcast in a separate episode which you can listen to here. I remember being fascinated with this guy's personal library. It was chock-full of books about reading body language, how to tell if people were lying to you, how to tell if people were attracted to you, how to negotiate, how to argue, and how to successfully enchant people and engage in social situations. So I read just about every book in his library and became incredibly interested in the science of human body language and human emotions. However, for the past several years I really haven't delved into much of the science behind understanding human connections and human interactions until my interest was recently re-sparked when reading a fascinating new book called Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People. As I usually do when I find a book incredibly intriguing, I folded over an enormous number of pages and hunted down the author to interview her for today's podcast. If you ever feel awkward at networking events, wonder what your date really thinks of you, wish you could decode people, or want to learn more about the science of people, this episode is for you. As a human behavior hacker, my guest on today's podcast - Vanessa Van Edwards - created a research lab to study the hidden forces that drive us. And she’s definitely cracked the code. In her new book Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People, she shares shortcuts, systems, and secrets for taking charge of your interactions at work, at home, and in any social situation. These aren’t the people skills you learned in school. This is the first comprehensive, science backed, real life manual on how to captivate anyone - and a completely new approach to building connections. Just like knowing the formulas to use in a chemistry lab, or the right programming language to build an app, Captivate provides simple ways to solve people problems. You learn, for example… -How to work a room: Every party, networking event, and social situation has a predictable map. Discover the sweet spot for making the most connections. -How to read faces: It’s easier than you think to speed-read facial expressions and use them to predict people’s emotions. -How to talk to anyone: Every conversation can be memorable—once you learn how certain words generate the pleasure hormone dopamine in listeners. When you understand the laws of human behavior, your influence, impact, and income will increase significantly. What’s more, you will improve your interpersonal intelligence, make a killer first impression, and build rapport quickly and authentically in any situation - negotiations, interviews, parties, and pitches. You’ll never interact the same way again. Vanessa Van Edwards is the lead investigator at Science of People, a human behavior research lab. She is a Huffington Post columnist and published author. Her innovative work has been featured on NPR, Business Week and USA Today. She regularly gives keynotes and appears in the media to talk about her research. She has written for CNN, Fast Company and Forbes. Her latest book, Captivate, was chosen as one of Apple’s Most Anticipated Books of 2017. During my discussion with Vanessa, you'll discover: -How we can "smell" fear in people, why women on birth control pills may choose the wrong mate, and how our level of hormones can actually change our facial structure and compatibility with other people...[9:35] -What a "PQ score" is and why it is so relevant to success...[14:27] -The biggest mistake most people make at social events, and where successful "hyper-networkers" stand...[17:50] -What you can learn from the most successful TED Talks based on the same three things that every TED presenter does...[23:20] -The "trust hormone" that Ben injected for several weeks that can also be released via eye contacts and handshakes...[26:35] -Why Vanessa took a 7 day vow of silence, and the shocking lessons she learned by "not talking"...[37:15] -One of the best hacks you can use to sync your brain to someone else you are talking to...[43:50] -What is the process Vanessa describes in her book called "the nut job"? Ep 883Nasal Glutathione, Psychedelics, Dynavision & More - The Concussion Repair Manual: A Practical Guide to Recovering from Traumatic Brain Injuries

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/concussionmanual Concussion is the biggest name in today's high-impact sports. And even if you haven't had a concussion, many people - due to brain inflammation, blood-brain barrier leakage, neurotransmitter imbalances and beyond - suffer from many of the same problematic brain issues caused by a concussion, such as brain fog, distraction, and ADHD-like symptoms (you can check out my own story about that, and how I fixed it, in this article I published after my brain scan at the Peak Brain Institute). As more and more high profile athletes come forward to share their stories of invisible suffering after head injuries, we as a culture are finally acknowledging this silent epidemic. Enter The Concussion Repair Manual: A Practical Guide to Recovering from Traumatic Brain Injuries, written by today's podcast guest, Dr. Dan Engle, as a user’s guide for those suffering after head traumas and those that support them. It is one-part “textbook,” packed with the leading research on medical technologies for healing the injured brain, and one-part “workbook,” offering a step-by-step method for making and tracking a personalized recovery regimen. Dr. Dan Engle's background and passion for concussion repair stem from a three-decade investigation into the many modalities for healing his own traumas. When the usual medical treatments didn’t help, he explored what was possible, found what worked and put them into this manual - "the best of the best" in the medical arena for recovering from sports related head injury. Dr. Engle is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Neurology, with a clinical practice that combines aspects of regenerative medicine, orthomolecular psychiatry, integrative spirituality and peak performance methods. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas in San Antonio, his psychiatry residency degree from the University of Colorado in Denver and his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship degree from Oregon Health and Sciences University. Currently, he is Medical Consultant to Onnit Labs in Austin, Texas, the Temple of the Way of Light Ayahuasca Center in Peru, Crossroads Ibogaine Recovery Center in Mexico and the True Rest Float Center in Tempe, Arizona. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How to get your own home float tank and the type of psychedelics or supplements to use before getting into the float tank...[12:55] -Where to purchase ketamine as a psychedelic on the Dark Web...[22:10] -The best way to go about hunting down a home hyperbaric oxygen therapy...[28:00] -What an interference field is and why Dr. Dan talks about it in the book in relation to hormones...[30:20] -How Dr. Dan performed what he calls "meditation on steroids"...[53:30] -What you can learn from the practice of ancient man using sharpened stones as medicine...[59:50] -Why glutathione is so important and how one administers it intranasally...[71:15] -And much more! Ep 882"If It Fits Your Macros", Is Clean Eating A Waste Of Time, Hex Bars, Can't-Miss Supplements & More With Mike Matthews.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/mikematthews Mike Matthews is a bestselling fitness author of books like "Bigger, Leaner, Stronger" and "Thinner, Leaner, Stronger". He is also the creator of the blog MuscleForLife.com and the supplement company Legion Athletics. His scientific approach to building muscle and losing fat has helped thousands of people build strong, lean, muscular, and healthy bodies, and his work has been featured in many popular outlets including Bodybuilding.com, Esquire, Men’s Health, Elle, and many more. Here's a small sampling of a few of Mike's core beliefs about getting into the best shape of your life: Lifting light weights for high reps is basically a waste of time. If your routine doesn’t revolve around heavy lifting, you’re doing it wrong. Getting lean, and even super lean, does NOT require hours upon hours of grueling cardio, or crash dieting that leaves you starving and miserable every day. If you know what you’re doing, you can gain 20-30 pounds of lean mass (yes, muscle) in your first year of training, regardless of your genetics. Pretty much every machine in the gym should be avoided, and most exercises are horribly ineffective. Which brings me to the next point… The idea that you have to constantly change your workout routine or your body will adapt and plateau is a lie. I change my routine once every 2-4 months and consistently get stronger month after month. You don’t have to exercise for more than 1 hour per day, 5 days per week to be in peak physical condition. I personally lift weights Monday through Friday for about 45 minutes, and do 3-4 cardio sessions per week, with each session running about 30 minutes. And I do the cardio mainly because I enjoy it. HOW MUCH you eat determines the effectiveness of your diet, not WHAT or WHEN. No matter what you’re doing with your diet, you can always work in cheats and indulgences and achieve your goals. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Why Mike now works out far less than what he used to, and gets better results...[10:45] -Mike's opinion on the research that high reps, low weight actually works for hypertrophy...[14:20 & 20:00] -Why both Ben and Mike like the hex bar for deadlifting...[32:50] -Why Mike says clean eating isn't the key to weight loss or muscle gain...[40:30] -The can't-miss components of Mike's morning routine...[53:50] -What Mike's diet and supplement regimen looks like, and the four supplements he always takes...[57:10] -And much more! Ep 881Runner's High: Marijuana's Surprising Effects On Athletic Performance (& Whether Weed Really Can Make You Better At Sports).

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/weedpodcast The recent controversial article featured on Greatist entitled "Why More Athletes Are Turning to Weed" starts like this... "It’s a typical Wednesday evening. After a long run, Andrew, who works in digital media in New York City, is following his standard post-run routine. Like most runners, he’ll quickly cool down, stretch, drink water, and maybe grab a post-workout snack. Unlike many runners, he’ll also smoke pot. The avid runner and cyclist, whose racing résumé includes the Umstead 100 Ultra, typically lights up immediately before his athletic activities and usually within an hour or two post-sweat session. Andrew isn’t alone in his habit—in fact, combining cannabis and sport has become an underground trend in distance-running culture. Ultra runners such as Avery Collins and Jen Shelton have admitted to running under the influence of marijuana. And former professional runner Chris Barnicle, a cannabis advocate living in Los Angeles, calls himself the “world’s fastest stoner” on Twitter. Pro-cannabis running groups, like Run on Grass in Denver, are dedicated to staying fit and educating others about cannabis, while online communities like Cannafit and NORML Athletics also promote cannabis' association with healthy living. And it's not just runners who are experimenting with weed. Bodybuilders may hit a bong to prevent soreness and sleep better, while action sports athletes such as mountain bikers, skiers, and snowboarders may light up on the lift to get in the zone, loosen up, or release their inhibitions. Even some athletes participating in niche sports such as skeleton, bobsledding, and ice hockey toke up." Last year, in my own article The Effect Of Weed On Exercise: Is Marijuana A Performance-Enhancing Drug?, I delved into whether THC, CBD, or other ingredients in marijuana actually enhance athletic performance on a molecular level. Then, just a few months ago, USA Today reported on the world's first "marijuana gym", describing a San Francisco gym called "Power Plant Fitness", where clients have the option to bring their own cannabis or order edibles, the gym’s preferred form of cannabis, while they are at the gym. A delivery service brings desired edibles to the gym within 15 minutes after clients place orders, and the gym has a designated space for those inhaling marijuana. The gym, which advertises itself as the world's first cannabis gym, touts using the drug for pain, focus and meditation. With the growing popularity of the combination of cannabis and sport, I decided it was high time to get an industry leader on the podcast to take a deep dive into whether weed really helps with exercise performance, and the current state of marijuana in the sporting industry. So my guest on this podcast is Tim Moxey, owner of botanicaSEATTLE, Tim Moxey and botanicaSEATTLE maks some of the best tasting and, in my opinion, healthiest marijuana and hemp based edibles that exist. Take, for example, the label of one of my favorite products that they produce, a tiny Altoid sized product called "Moxeys Mints", which are infused with ginkgo leaf, siberian ginseng, indian gooseberry, echinacea root, chamomile, california poppy, cinnamon, peppermint, ginger and more. Born in the Pacific Northwest, Moxey's Mints are crafted in small batches to promote wellbeing in mind and body. Each pastille is formulated with herbal synergists tailored to elevate the cannabis experience. Moxey’s herbal allies can brighten your day with Siberian Ginseng and Gingko, lower stress and allow you to kick back with California Poppy and Camomile and restore and maintain balance in mind and body with Indian Gooseberry and Echinacea. So how did Tim come up with all these ideas that spawned an enormously successful edibles company? After studying Physics at Warwick Uni, Tim joined British investment bank Barclays de Zoete Wedd, with roles on the derivatives, risk and strategy teams before getting an MBA from Dartmouth’s Tuck School in 2001. After a stint in the Australian division of strategic management consulting firm, Bain and Company, Tim left to build specialist triathlon wetsuit company ‘blueseventy’ into the leading brand in the sport. He then went on to found ‘nuun’, a pioneering hydration company which spawned a new category in sports nutrition. In 2012 Tim was living in the U.K. when he read an article in ‘The Economist’ about Washington State voting to legalize cannabis. It had a profound effect and he was convinced that the socioeconomic benefits from a legal framework far outweighed the prohibition model. He promptly relocated to the US to build a company that would set the standard in a regulated environment. Tim currently runs botanicaSEATTLE with co-founder Chris Abbott. botanicaSEATTLE (www.botanicaseattle.com) is now the leading edibles company in the most developed legal market in the world and is committed to creating innovative micro-dose products that focus on quality and responsibil

Ep 879The Plant Paradox: Are Lectins *Really* That Harmful Or Is Dr. Steven Gundry Wrong?

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/gundry Grains of all kinds, especially whole grain wheat. Corn. Tomatoes. Potatoes. Beans and legumes, particularly soy. Just about all nuts, especially cashews and peanuts. Zucchini, bell peppers, eggplant and pickles. And yes, even our dear friend the avocado. Each of these foods has one thing in common - a food component that today's podcast guest, Dr. Steven Gundry, claims may responsible for some of the world's most pressing health issues, from obesity to heart disease. In Dr. Gundry's new book The Plant Paradox: The Hidden Dangers in "Healthy" Foods That Cause Disease and Weight Gain", he highlights exactly what that foood component is. Dr. Gundry is a renowned cardiologist, New York Times best-selling author and medical researcher. During his 40-year career in medicine, he has performed over 10,000 heart surgeries and developed multiple life-saving medical technologies, including patenting nine cardiac surgery devices. He is a cum laude graduate of Yale University with special honors in Human Biological and Social Evolution. After graduating Alpha Omega Alpha from the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine, Dr. Gundry completed residencies in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Michigan and served as a Clinical Associate at the National Institutes of Health. There, he invented devices that reverse the cell death seen in acute heart attacks; variations of these devices subsequently became the Gundry™ Retrograde Cardioplegia Cannula. It has become the world’s most widely used device of its kind to protect the heart from damage during open-heart surgery. After completing a fellowship in congenital heart surgery at The Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, in London, Dr. Gundry was recruited as Professor and Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center. There, he and his partner, Leonard Bailey, pioneered infant and pediatric heart transplantation. Together, they have performed more such transplants than any other surgeons in the world. During his tenure at Loma Linda, Dr. Gundry pioneered the field of xenotransplantation, the study of how the genes of one species react to the transplanted heart of a foreign species. He was one of the original twenty investigators of the first FDA-approved implantable left ventricular assist device (a kind of artificial heart). Dr. Gundry is also the inventor of the Gundry Ministernomy, the widely used minimally invasive approach to aortic- or mitral-valve repair, the Gundry Lateral Tunnel, a “living” tissue that can rebuild parts of the heart in children with severe congenital heart malformations; and the Skoosh™ venous cannula, the most widely used cannula in minimally invasive heart operations. One of the fathers of robotic surgery, as a consultant to Computer Motion (now Intuitive Surgical), Dr. Gundry received early FDA approval to use robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery for coronary artery-bypass and mitral-valve operations. He holds patents on devices for connecting blood vessels and coronary artery bypasses without sutures, as well as for repairing the mitral valve without the need for sutures or a heart-lung machine. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Artificial Internal Organs (ASIAO), and was a founding board member and treasurer of the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS). He recently completed two successive elected terms as President of the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association, Desert Division. Dr. Gundry has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the American Surgical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of numerous other surgical and medical societies. He is also the author of more than three hundred articles, chapters, and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals on surgical, immunology, genetic, nutrition, and lipid investigations. He has operated in more than thirty countries, including charitable missions to China, India, and Zimbabwe. Inspired by the stunning reversal of coronary artery disease in an “inoperable” patient, using a combination of dietary changes and nutriceutical supplements, in 2001, Dr. Gundry changed the path of his career. An obese, chronic “diet” failure himself, he adapted his undergraduate Yale University thesis to design a diet based on evolutionary genetic coding, which enabled him to reverse his own medical problems. In the process, he effortlessly lost 70 pounds. The equally astonishing results from following what he came to call Diet Evolution in several of his staff led Dr. Gundry to accept a position in Palm Springs where he could devote his efforts to disease reversal. No longer satisfied with repairing the damage of chronic diseases, since 2002, Dr. Gundry founded and has served as Medical Director of The Interna

Ep 878Qi Gong For Athletes: How To Develop Unstoppable Speed, Conditioning & Mental Resilience With Qi Gong.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/holder What separates us from the rest is something that happens every morning around 11:00am. I walk over to the stereo, change the music to either Enya or Lama Gyurme, and the room stops. Those athletes who have been involved with this process all gather around, we walk over to a central space in the room, and we begin a practice that has been performed for thousands of years. Chris Holder is the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Cal Poly in beautiful San Luis Obispo, California. Along with working with 22 Division I athletic teams and over 500 student-athletes, Chris is a Doctor of Medical Qigong (DMQ-China). Under the tutelage of world famous Qigong Grand Master Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson, Dr. Holder conducted groundbreaking research on the effects of Medical Qigong Therapy with athletes in competition, the first of its kind. With the blending of western strength training practices and eastern medical and spiritual practices, Chris co-authored a study investigating the effects of a daily Qigong practice on strength gains in collegiate aged athletes. These two pieces have spawned additional studies that are currently in progress. The first is investigating the effects of Qigong on flow induction. The second could be one of the most important studies in concussion research. Both are showing tremendous benefits to each area of study. Chris is one of only 13 Master RKC’s in the world and is known in many strength training circles as one of the first to introduce kettlebell training to collegiate athletics. Chris has worked with athletes at all levels, including professionals in the NFL, NBA and MLB. Chris is a regular contributor to several of the major strength training websites on the web, including, Breaking Muscle, TrainHeroic and Dragon Door. The podcast episode "How To Cure Yourself Of Cancer: An Epic Interview With A Man Who Defied Conventional Medicine & Cured Himself Of Prostate Cancer." was one of the most popular and comment-filled episodes that I've ever released on alternative methods of healing cancer. It was so popular, in fact, that I decided to approach Eric Remesperger, my guest on that episode, and propose that he address the host of comments and questions that materialized after that original show. He was kind enough to do so, and in today's special Premium episode (available as a part of 300+ additional special episodes, videos and pdf's you can access here), Eric delves into the following: [00:00] Introduction [01:57] Coffee Enemas [05:39] Using Nystatin [08:10] Wim Hof’s Breathing Techniques [12:38] Emotional Blockages [15:44] The Budwig Protocol [21:21] Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide [23:37] Acupunture [24:24] Sulforaphane [26:56] DCA [30:47] Laetrile [33:52] High Dose Vitamin C [40:26] Children With Cancer [43:19] Fitting In With The Regimen In Your Everyday Life [46:23] Cancer and Lymph Node Removal [48:08] Eric’s Diet [57:58] End of Podcast Introduction: Thank you, Ben. The questions posed will include the following: a discussion on coffee enemas, the use of Nystatin as an anti-fungal agent, Wim Hof breathing techniques and oxygenation at a cellular and tissue level, the Budwig Protocol, sulforaphane, Laetrile or vitamin B17, high-dose vitamin C, and balancing oxidative therapies with antioxidants. But before I begin, I have to make my usual disclaimer. I'm not a doctor and I don't give medical advice. I make no recommendations. All I’ve done is looked at the data, and as an attorney I kind of applied my own kind of skill set to looking at evidence, and come to my own conclusions. And I'm sharing information with you so that you can have the same perspective that I came to when you're trying to sort through and make your own decisions. Let me also mention that in the process of coming to my own theories and conclusions, I've formed what I consider to be some foundational elements for moving back from a cancering state to a healing state over and above kind of nutrition and supplementation, which obviously a lot of us spend a lot of time focusing on nutrition and supplementation, but these other elements include, there's really four of them that I kind of list down here: one is oxygenation of the cells and tissues, number two is proper cellular communication because in my view all we are are our bags of cells, and cancer are cells that are not functioning the way they should within that community of cells. And so we do really need to kind of focus on proper communication between the cells. Detoxification, which includes physical, environmental, and emotional, and energetic wellness. Those are kind of the four underlying foundational elements for all of the protocols and the pillars that you'll see if you go on my site. So let's go ahead and get started. Coffee Enemas The first question I'm going to address comes from Kathy. Kathy's concerned about whether or not coffee enemas might be contraindicated for her because she had several lymph nodes removed as part of a treatment for cervical cancer, and she asks whether she should be concerned about doing enemas without lymph nodes. And I think before answering that question, it might be useful to talk a little bit about coffee enemas generally. Let me mentioned for those of you who haven't already seen it that Ben has a great blog post on coffee enemas entitled "The Bulletproof Coffee Enema: Everything You've Always Wanted To Know About Coffee Enemas But Were Afraid To Ask". On that blog post, he goes not only into kind of how to do an enema, but why they do an enema and that sort of thing. So if you haven't or are not familiar with doing coffee enemas, I highly recommend that as a good source to go to. But just kind of briefly, enemas are traditionally done to clean out the bowels of your colon. Coffee enema, although this is an enema, it's quite different, it's done to help the liver do its job of detoxification. As we all know, the liver is not just a detoxifier, it's the ultimate multi-tasker. It does everything from converting protein into glucose, storing vitamins and nutrients, regulating hormones, making bile, et cetera. When a coffee enema is done, the caffeine from the coffee is absorbed into the system, where it goes into the liver and acts as a detoxifier. It works there because there are these entrohepatic circulatory veins that carry toxins from the sigmoid colon to the liver for the detoxification process to run. Coffee enemas also cause the liver to produce more bile, which as you probably know is stored in the gallbladder. And

Ep 874How "Machine Learning" Can Predict Your Blood, Urine, Stool, Saliva & More!

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/machinelearning I recently took a test that uses machine learning to predict biochemical test results (like blood, urine and stool) - a test called the "Elite Performance Analysis (EPA) tool". Over the last three years, the folks at Nourish Balance Thrive (Dr. Tommy Wood and Chris Kelly, both former podcast guests) who designed this test have worked with over 1,000 athletes, averaging over 100 biochemical markers collected per athlete, including: -Blood biochemistry -Urine tests (DUTCH and organic acids) -Stool tests (PCR and culture) -Subjective quality of life questions (a Health Assessment Questionnaire, or HAQ), scored on an analog scale (1-5) As well as working to optimize the performance of athletes at every level, another goal of Nourish Balance Thrive is to give more people access to the type of work they do by increasing speed of access and reducing cost. Machine learning provides for a very good way to do this. By training an algorithm based on historical HAQ and biochemical test data, they can predict five common patterns of performance killers that they regularly see in their clients, including: 1. Blood sugar dysregulation (high/low fasting blood sugar and HbA1c, or high fasting insulin) 2. Low sex hormones (testosterone in men and oestrogen in women) 3. Suboptimal hemoglobin (“low oxygen deliverability”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ep 873How To Use Boxing, Sparring & Fighting To Turn Your Body Into The Ultimate Fitness Weapon.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/boxing The last few times I've visited LA, I've had the privilege of getting my butt kicked in boxing and sparring with an English former professional boxer who won a bronze medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics, was a 7 time national champion boxer, and was undefeated in the sport all the way up to his 2012 retirement. His name is Tony Jeffries, and in this episode, you get to tune in as Tony descends upon my home in Spokane, WA to podcast in my own backyard - just after our sparring session in my basement and workout on my home obstacle course. Originally from Sunderland, England, Tony Jeffries moved to Los Angeles, California after being forced to retire from his career as professional boxer due to hand injuries. It was in LA that Tony met business partner, Kevan Watson. The pair started teaching boxing classes on Santa Monica Beach for which demand grew so much that the two are now proud owners of two of Southern California’s most prestige boxing gyms, Box ‘N Burn. Ranked number 1 gym in California by Men’s Fitness Magazine and named number 1 boxing class in LA by Time Out magazine, Box ‘N Burn provides clients – which for Tony, now includes the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Travis Barker, Tim Tebow and singer/songwriter Skyler Grey – with a highly effective, unique workout, teaching them real boxing technique through 1-on-1 mitt work. World-class athlete turned businessman, Tony, is also co-creator of the Box ‘N Burn Academy – the world’s number 1 boxing fitness and certification course for Personal Trainers and fitness enthusiasts. Tony shares his motivation and passion for both business and boxing through his weekly Box ‘N Life podcast. Hosted with Head Trainer of Box ‘N Burn Santa Monica, Glenn Holmes, the two have featured notable names from the worlds of business, fighting, and the arts on the show, including Gary Vaynerchuck, Dan Pena, Chris Shifflet and Brendan Schaub to name a few! During our discussion, you'll discover: -What Tony thinks about the upcoming Connor Mcgregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight...[8:10] -How common TBI's are and if Tony has had to deal with concussions/concussion repair...[13:50] -What the training regimen of a professional boxer looks like...[21:20] -What the physiological requirements of boxing are...[33:00] -How the box n' burn sessions work...[36:15] -Tony's recommendations to anybody who wants to step into the ring and fight...[43:00] -What got Tony into boxing in the first place...[47:10] -How Tony came to be undefeated...[48:10] Resources from this episode: -Tony's Box n' Burn gyms -Box n' Burn academy -Teloyears podcast -Concussion Repair Manual by Dr. Dan Engle -Peak Brain Institute -Professor In The Cage book Show Sponsors: -Four Sigmatic - Go to FourSigmatic.com/Greenfield and use couple code "BENGREENFIELD" for 15% off. -HealthGains - Text the word "GAIN" to 313131 for $250 off any HealthGains treatment. -Antrantil - For all of your Bloating, SIBO, IBS, Leaky Gut issues, go to LoveMyTummy.com/Ben. Ep 872The Kratom User's Guide: What Is Kratom, How Do You Use It & The Truth Behind This Controversial Natural Herb.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/chrisbell From relaxation, to quelling appetite, to killing pain, I've recently been using an herb called "Kratom" (ever since I injured my back several months ago and I needed something other than an opioid based painkiller to stop the discomfort and allow me to sleep and engage in my normal day-to-day function). When I first used Kratom, I felt the effects within minutes - and also experienced a pleasant euphoria, and even a drop in appetite, with none of the side effects of a painkiller and none of the psychosis of something like marijuana. Advocates say the herb kratom offers relief from pain, depression, and anxiety. Scientists say it may hold the key to treating chronic pain and may even be a tool to combat addiction to opioid medications. But the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is now trying to ban this potent herb, citing an “imminent hazard to public safety.” So is kratom safe? Addictive? How do you use it? What are the different strains? What else can kratom be used for? In today's podcast with Chris Bell, you'll discover the answers to all these questions and much more. This is a must listen, in my opinion, especially since President Trump just declared the opioid crisis in America a "national emergency". Chris "Boar" Bell is an American director, producer and writer, known for his documentaries Bigger, Stronger, Faster and Trophy Kids and Prescription Thugs. He is the brother of Mark Bell and Mike Bell, both of whom were featured in Bigger, Stronger, Faster. In 1997, Bell obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Film Production from the University of Southern California. He currently resides in California, where founded his film production company Bigger Stronger Faster Inc, which is devoted to producing educational documentaries, films, and TV shows... ...Chris also happens to be an expert in all things kratom, and even claims in this video that kratom is "the cure for the opioid epidemic". During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Chris went from being in intense pain 24-7 to nearly destroying his stomach with ibuprofen and advil to being completely addicted to opioid based painkillers...[8:55] -How Chris originally discovered kratom...[20:50] -What kratom is and where it comes from...[23:45 & 25:00] -How you feel when you take kratom...[26:05] -The difference between the different kratom strains, like red, white and green...[27:25] -Whether kratom is safe on the organs...[31:15] -Where Ben and Chris get their kratom...[38:20 & 40:45] -Whether kratom is addictive or habit-forming...[42:15] -If kratom is banned by WADA or USADA...[47:10] -Whether kratom can be combined with anything to enhance its effects...[50:50, 52:50 & 54:00] -How long kratom takes to "hit your system" and how long it lasts...[59:25] -The new kratom documentary Chris is working on...[60:30] -And much more...
