The reason being that the water tanks have built up an unacceptable level of e coli. My question is this: is the risk of drinking from such a water supply ever worthwhile for eliciting a hormetic response in the body? It seems many pilots are split between "absolutely not" and "a good way to prepare the body for an end-of-days bacterial breakout". What are your thoughts on this? Business Advice For Personal Trainers Kieren says: Noting the dynamic landscape of the fitness industry today and with a constant barrage of new info and a flooded market, what advice would you give someone starting out as a personal trainer in 2018? In my response, I recommend: -Chek Certification -Kion Coach Certification -Weston A. Price Foundation -Alan Aragon's Research Review -Examine Research Digest -Personal Trainers' G

The 30 Second Fat Loss Trick Randy says: I recently read a study that fascinated me - and seemed a little too good to be true. The participants did a 30 second sprint (I think it was on a bike) in a fasted state. And that is all. And this resulted in fat loss. The concept being that sprinting in a fasted state increases leptin receptors which makes your body think that leptin levels are high therefore it blunts your appetite and raises fat metabolism. I wondered if you knew anything about this concept? In my response, I recommend: -My Look Good Naked & Longevity Plan -The original study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21659488 Does Weed Lower Testosterone? Brian says: I am looking at a study from 1979 called "The Effects of cannabinoids on testosterone and protein synthesis". They found that THC and CBD actually inhibited testosterone production in the rats. This seems like bad news for those of us who use those. So I wanted to get your thoughts on it and any other research you might know about. In my response, I recommend: -More research on cannabinoids and testosterone -My article: The Effects Of Weed On Exercise Do Exogenous Ketones Actually Put You Into True Ketosis? Lele says: I am wondering if the products that contain ketone salts (like Ketoburst) put you into actual ketosis (the kind that comes from the liver and blood) or is it is a false ketosis? Are they the same thing or is one better than the other? In my response, I recommend: -Could This Ketosis-Based Elixi

Ep 928Special Episode: How I'm Going To Completely Detox My Body In 2018 (Detox Myths Busted, Detox 101, Advanced Detox Strategies & Much More!)

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/detox2018 Well, I've been at it again folks: putting my mind and muscles through a brutal ringer for the sake of science. In my recent post "Biohacking Your Manhood: The Proven Habits, Foods, Exercises, Workouts, Nutrients & Tools That Boost Testosterone & Libido", you learned how Men's Health magazine recently sent me on a 3 month global expedition to do everything a fella could possibly to do increase testosterone, size, orgasm quality, libido and a host of other manhood related parameters - including stem cell injections, acoustic sound wave therapy, red light blasting and beyond. Shortly after completing that article, I received my next writing assignment: outfit my pantry with an arsenal of the latest trendy hangover cures - from Oriental raisin extract hovenia dulcis to prickly pear concentrated extract to self-administered Myer's cocktail IV's - then engage in extreme alcohol hedonism and see what happens (you can read the surprising results here). So, after all this brutality, I've decided to kick off 2018 by pushing the reboot button and cleaning up my entire system with a giant, scientifically proven detoxification mop, and I'm inviting you to join me. In this article, you'll learn why detoxification is not a myth, exactly why you should seriously consider detoxing (even if you live an ultra-clean lifestyle and don't necessarily treat your body as an N=1 guinea pig like I do), and how I'm personally going to detox using a relatively unique approach. Is Detoxification A Myth? A few years ago, The Guardian released an article entitled: You can’t detox your body. It’s a myth. So how do you get healthy? In the article, the author says that: “...detoxing — the idea that you can flush your system of impurities and leave your organs squeaky clean and raring to go — is a scam. It’s a pseudo-medical concept designed to sell you things.” So is this true? Can you really not detox your body? As you go into the New Year, during which detox diets and claims are sure to surround you, it’s important to know the truth about detoxing. It’s important to begin with an understanding of what toxins actually are. No matter how “clean” you live your life, just about everybody shows some evidence of a buildup of toxins. When the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted the Fourth National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals, they found some pretty shocking results. On average, the CDC’s report found 212 chemicals in people’s blood or urine, 75 of which had never before been measured in the U.S. population. The chemicals included: Acrylamide (formed when foods are baked or fried at high temperatures, and as a byproduct of cigarette smoke) Arsenic, found in many home-building products Environmental phenols, including bisphenol A (found in plastics, food packaging and epoxy resins) and triclosan (used as an antibacterial agent in personal care products such as toothpaste and hand soap) Perchlorate, used in airplane fuel, explosives and fireworks Perfluorinated chemicals, used to create non-stick cookware Polybrominated diphenyl ethers, used in fire retardants found in consumer products such as mattresses Volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), found in paints, air fresheners, cleaning products, cosmetics, upholstery fabrics, carpets, dry-cleaned clothing, wood preservatives, and paint strippers When you put all these together, these chemicals can potentially present a toxic burden to the human body, and (as the CDC has found) can accumulate in your body’s blood, urine and tissue — possibly one reason why the plastic-based versions of these chemicals are sometimes referred to as “obesogens,” due to the suggestion that they may somehow accumulate in fat tissue. While your body does actually have detoxification organs (your liver and kidney) that can process many of these chemicals and toxins, they can potentially cause medical problems if your liver and kidneys are not functioning properly or are overburdened with a poor diet. While the kidneys are indeed important for acting as a filtration mechanism for your blood and removing wastes and excess water from the body, it’s the liver that has an incredibly important job when it comes to detoxification. Along with filtering your blood to remove toxins, your liver uses a two-phase process to break down chemicals and toxins. During phase 1, toxins are neutralized and broken into smaller fragments. Then, in phase 2 they are bound to other molecules, creating a new non-toxic molecule that can be excreted in your bile, urine or stool. But order for this liver detoxification to work properly, your body must have adequate nutrients. If not, the phase 1 and phase 2 processes may not work adequately, which can leave toxic substances to build up in your body. There are specific nutrients that support both pathways. For example: Phase 1: B-Vitamins (B2, B3, B6, B12, folic acid) Flavonoids, found in fruits and vegetables Foods ri

Ep 927Why You Get Hungry & What To Do About It: How To Defy Overeating, Conquer The Buffet, Stop Cravings In Their Tracks & Much More!

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/hungrybrain Although most of us strive to eat well and avoid weight gain, our behavior doesn’t always live up to our lofty intentions. The remarkable explanation, argues neuroscience obesity researcher and today's podcast guest Stephan Guyenet, is that we’re betrayed by our very own brains, which drive us to crave and overeat food. In THE HUNGRY BRAIN: Outsmarting the Instincts that Make Us Overeat Guyenet deploys his humor, wit, and extensive research experience to explain the instinctive brain circuits that compel us to overeat. He shows how those circuits expand our waistlines and undermine weight loss, and how we can use them to manage our weight more effectively. Stephan Guyenet has put his finger on a critically important explanation for our global obesity epidemic: the human brain. Although it’s indisputable that the brain is the cause of overeating - since the brain is the source of all behavior - this disarmingly simple insight has never before been the focus of a general-audience book. THE HUNGRY BRAIN starts from the very beginning, uncovering how our (leaner) ancestors lived, both in recent history and the distant past. From there, it explores the brain circuits that kept us alive in that rugged world: those that drive our cravings, make our food choices, govern our appetites, and regulate our body fatness. And it explains how the genetic roulette that determines how these circuits are wired is a major reason why some people are lean and others are obese. Unfortunately for our waistlines, we no longer live in the world of our ancestors, yet our brains keep playing by the rules of a survival game that no longer exists. Advances in technology and affluence let us tempt our brains with seductive, convenient food more than ever before, and willpower bows before the force of instincts honed by millions of years of evolution. And once we gain weight, the brain works to keep us from losing it again. The result is a world that’s fatter than at any previous time in human history. THE HUNGRY BRAIN explores the brain in a vivid and accessible way, weaving in illustrations, humor, and unlikely scientific discoveries to bring readers inside areas of science that have remained off limits to a general audience until now. Ultimately, it leaves you with profound insights into how the brain works, how the brain drives us to overeat, and what we can do about it. So who is this guy? Stephan J. Guyenet, Ph.D. is an obesity researcher and health writer whose work ties together multiple fields of science to offer explanations and solutions for our global weight problem. He received a B.S. in biochemistry at the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in neurobiology at the University of Washington. He is the author of the popular health website Whole Health Source (wholehealthsource.org) and he is a frequent lecturer on topics of obesity, metabolism, and diet history. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Why what Stephan presents in his book is absent from all popular theories of obesity...[7:45] -The story of the fattest man on the island...[12:10] -Why kids like ice cream and not brussels sprouts...[18:50 & 27:00] -How chocolate serves as a prime example of reinforcing properties that characterize modern food addictions...[23:15] -How you can beat the "buffet effect"...[29:00] -The three things all nonindustrial diets have in common, and how you can use these things to keep yourself from overeating...[36:05] -Why the idea of moderation in eating is totally foreign to hunter-gatherers...[48:40] -A simple mechanism you can fight your natural, ancestral tendency to overeat...[57:00] -What lesioned rats can tell you about the mysterious "satiety factor", and how you can maximize your own satiety factor...[64:05] -Why do the people from the Biggest Loser gained so much weight back after the competition...[75:10] -A cortisol-like drug that causes intense, unconstrained eating, and what that means for you and your waistline...[84:45] -And much more! Ep 926The Case Against Sugar: Is Gary Taubes Full Of Sweet Lies & Deception, Or Is Sugar Really Making Us Fat?

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/taubes My guest on today's podcast - Gary Taubes - just wrote a groundbreaking, eye-opening exposé entitled "The Case Against Sugar" that makes the convincing case that sugar is the tobacco of the new millennium: backed by powerful lobbies, entrenched in our lives, and making us very sick. Among Americans, diabetes is more prevalent today than ever; obesity is at epidemic proportions; nearly 10% of children are thought to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. And Gary believes sugar is at the root of these, and other, critical society-wide, health-related problems. In the book, he delves into Americans' history with sugar: its uses as a preservative, as an additive in cigarettes, the contemporary overuse of high-fructose corn syrup. He explains what research has shown about our addiction to sweets. He clarifies the arguments against sugar, corrects misconceptions about the relationship between sugar and weight loss; and provides the perspective necessary to make informed decisions about sugar as individuals and as a society. The ever prolific Gary Taubes is cofounder and senior scientific advisor of the Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI). He's an award-winning science and health journalist, the author of The Case Against Sugar, Why We Get Fat and Good Calories, Bad Calories, and a former staff writer for Discover and correspondent for the journal Science. His writing has also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, and Esquire, and has been included in numerous Best of anthologies, including The Best of the Best American Science Writing (2010). He has received three Science in Society Journalism Awards from the National Association of Science Writers. He is also the recipient of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Award in Health Policy Research. He lives in Oakland, California. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The difference between glucose and fructose, and how is that related to sucrose...[7:35] -Why the fructose we eat now is different than the fructose we find in nature...[14:20] -How German researchers discovered sugar to be just as as effective as "crack cocaine"...[21:10] -The fascinating marriage of tobacco and sugar, and why sugar is in cigarettes...[27:50] -How "metabolic imprinting" causes a baby's pancreatic cells to become dysfunctional...[33:35] -Why salt may not be the cause for hypertension, but sugar may...[44:00] -The relationship between sugar, gout and uric acid, and why gout and uric acid may not just be protein related...[47:10 & 57:00] -Why different people have different blood sugar responses to sugar...[49:20] -What Gary thinks of the fact that he's been called out on the fact that the NuSci metabolic ward research found no insulin-obesity link, and whether it's calories, not macronutrients, that are most important...[65:00] -And much more! Ep 925The Effects Of Exercise, Carbohydrates, Saturated Fat, Protein, Fiber & Micronutrients On Sleep!

This is a special Premium audio episode. Click here to activate a Premium subscription to the BenGreenfieldFitness show and access this and over 300 additional hidden audios, videos, pdf's and more! I recently read one of the best three-part series on sleep that I've ever seen, entitled "The effects of nutrition and exercise on sleep" and covering, in order of appearance in Alan Aragon's Research Review, "Part 1: Macros, energy restriction, meal timing and composition", "Part 2: Micronutrients and sleep" and "Part 3: Exercise and sleep". The series included several very interesting bullet points, including, from Part 1: -Consider consuming high-glycemic carbs 4h before bed if the aim is to fall asleep faster. -Do not consume an excessively large meal right before bed. -Higher protein (>1.5g/kg) may help sleep in the case of energy deficits. -A high-carbohydrate diet may shorten wake times. -Consume adequate fiber. -Keep saturated fat intake low to moderate. -Keep total fat intake relatively low at dinner and later in the evening. -Consume adequate omega 3. -Regularly consume fatty fish (> 5% fat). -If you’re overweight, weight loss increases sleep duration and improves sleep quality. ...from Part 2: -Vitamin D deficiency (25-hydroxyvitamin D -Clinical risk factors for chronically low vitamin D include dark skin tone, obesity, limited natural sunlight exposure, pregnancy, chronic anticonvulsant use, chronic steroid use, and intestinal malabsorption syndromes. -Chronically low vitamin D is related to symptoms of sleepiness and other symptoms of wake impairment. -Chronically low vitamin D may be a cofactor for the development of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and OSA- associated cardiovascular disease. -Melatonin production can be increased by a high protein diet that contains more tryptophan than LNAA; ingestion of carbohydrate, which may increase the ratio of free Trp to branched-chain amino acids and facilitate the release of insulin, ingestion of a high-fat meal, which may increase free fatty acids and result in increased free Trp; exercise, which can influence both free fatty acids and insulin. -Valerian, nitric oxide and magnesium may all be useful micronutrients for sleep aid. and from Part 3: -Acute and chronic exercise promote sleep; -Exercise has the ability to induce circadian phase-shifting effects perhaps as potent as bright light; -Training in the early morning can be detrimental, so employ strategic napping during the day, correct sleep hygiene practices at night, and consider aiming for at least 10 hours in bed per night; -It is crucial not to schedule early morning training sessions after evening training to avoid sleep restriction; -30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise at 65% of heart rate attained at VO2 peak performed in the early morning seems to be beneficial; -Afternoon exercise between 14:00-18:00h at 50-80% VO2max for 80-150 min can improve sleep; -The most positive effects occur with exercise taking place 4 to 8 hours before bedtime; -Evening exercise is not associated with worse sleep; -30 min of high-intensity exercise at 85–90% of max HR to exhaustion, 3–4h prior to bedtime resulted in better sleep; -Vigorous late-night exercise does not disturb sleep quality and can increase sleep efficiency and REM sleep latency; -Brief periods of high-intensity exercise administered in the late evening (22:40-23:00 h) result in an immediate blunting of the nocturnal rise of melatonin; -Long-duration exercise can partially alleviate sleepiness during the period of exposure; -The effects of exercise on sleepiness is most pronounced when exercise is performed in the middle of the night; -Short bouts (10 min) of exercise every 2 hours over a sleep deprived day can increased alertness but for less than an hour; -Exercise in well-lit conditions may improve sleep for shift workers. In this quick and dirty Premium podcast episode, I fill you in on a few of these highlights. And stay tuned, as I'll be getting the paper author on a podcast soon to take a dive into the nitty-gritty details. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ep 922How To Fix Dirty Genes, Interpret Your Genetic Testing Results, Go Beyond 23AndMe Genetic Testing & More With Dr. Ben Lynch.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/benlynch If you've ever tested your genes (or wanted to) and had a completely head-scratching experience when it comes to interpreting your results or translating your genetic testing results into actionable information, then today's podcast is right up your alley, as I interview Dr. Ben Lynch, one of the world's leading authorities in interpreting and "fixing" your genes. Dr. Lynch, ND received his Cell and Molecular Biology, BS from the University of Washington and his doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine (ND) from Bastyr University. His passion for identifying the cause of disease directed him towards nutrigenomics and methylation dysfunction. Currently, he researches, writes and presents worldwide on the topic of MTHFR, methylation defects and genetic control. Dr. Lynch is the President of www.SeekingHealth.com, a supplement company oriented towards disease prevention and health promotion. He also founded and directs www.SeekingHealth.org, an educational institute providing specialized training for both health professionals and consumers. He lives in Seattle, WA with his wife, Nadia, and three boys, Tasman, Mathew and Theodor. He first discovered the power of epigenetics in 2008. At the time, he was a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, graduate of Bastyr University, with a special interest in environmental medicine—helping people recover from the assaults of industrial chemicals, heavy metals, and other environmental toxins. When he discovered what a big role genes played in this whole process, he began eagerly reading every scientific paper he could get is hands on. Dr. Lynch quickly realized that there was a huge gap between what the geneticists published in their research papers and what the medical providers practiced in their offices. The scientists were ridiculously far ahead of doctors and nurses, who often had no idea how to help their patients respond to genetic abnormalities or even to follow the basics of good gene health. Nor did practitioners have any idea how to create a targeted program geared to specific genetic issues. So he made it his mission to bring that cutting-edge science right into the doctor’s office. He threw himself into genetic research, chasing down any article or paper that could shed any light on what we regular folks could do to improve health. He began working with individuals whose health-care providers just weren’t giving them the help they needed. And he started to give seminars, webinars, workshops, and talks so that practitioners could learn how to help their patients. In a remarkably short time, he had established himself as the go-to guy on treating genetic abnormalities through diet, supplements, and lifestyle. In 2011, he founded Seeking Health, a research-based company producing high-quality supplements targeted to particular health issues. In 2015, he was named Number 37 in Inc.’s list of 500 Entrepreneur Superstars from America’s fastest-growing private companies and Number 1 in Washington state. In 2016, he made the list again. He also established Seeking Health Educational Institute (SHEI), a website for both health professionals and lay people who want to learn more about nutrigenomics and methylation. SHEI quickly became one of the most trusted resources on genetics for health professionals and laypersons worldwide. In 2015, he developed StrateGene, a unique approach to helping people develop natural strategies for overcoming genetic abnormalities. People who were getting their genetic challenges from websites like 23andMe or Genos Research were receiving massively confusing documents with wildly contradictory information. His system zeroes in on the genetic abnormalities that pose the greatest challenges in people’s health and then provides comprehensive plans for overcoming those challenges through diet, environment and lifestyle. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Dr. Lynch first become interested in genetic and genes, despite this being uncommon in naturopathic medicine...[8:30] -Why most genetic analysis programs give you a ton of clinically irrelevant info, when most of it is not what you actually need...[11:30 & 26:00] -How to upload your raw 23andme data into a website like Stratagene to get very relevant information about your genes...[29:30 & 31:20] -How the "warrior" vs. "worrier" gene works, and what you can do if you are a worrier...[34:50] -Examples of very common SNP "issues", and what the impact of those is, along with potential associated symptoms and conditions and what you can do about it...[44:15] -Why you should consume bifidobacter probiotics, SAM-e and molybdenum, when you drink wine or other alcohol...[60:55] -How to know what your own "dirty genes" are...[65:30] -And much more... Ep 921Should Christians Do Yoga? How To Combine Energy Medicine & Religion, Flat Earth Christianity, Transcendental Meditation, Anti-Aging & More With Pastor Toby Sumpter.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/toby It's absolutely no secret that I, of late, have taken a deep dive into what many would consider to be "woo-woo" forms of healing and enhancing the human body and brain, including the use of modalities such as acupuncture, biofeedback, yoga, homeopathic medicine, chiropractic medicine, energy medicine, acupuncture, ayurvedic "energy points" and traditional Chinese medicine... ...along with a developed growing interest in the concept of chi, Prana, chakra and life force. Before the 1960s, most of these practices such as sound healing, yoga, chiropractic, acupuncture, Reiki, therapeutic touch, meditation, martial arts, homeopathy, alternative anticancer diets, etc. were dismissed as medically and religiously questionable. But now that these once-suspect health practices have gained approval and been re-categorized as somewhat non-religious and instead falling under the auspices of healthcare, fitness, or scientific modalities, they seem to have gained a great deal of cultural legitimacy because people interpret them as science instead of religion. Therapies such as acupuncture, biofeedback, and “Therapeutic Touch” (the laying on of hands to channel “Universal Life Energy” to the patient) are increasingly accepted and utilized by physicians, hospitals, and clinics across the country. The use of meditation and visualization are commonly prescribed to reduce stress. Chiropractic, long considered anathema by orthodox medicine, has recently acquired a new respectability, and spinal adjustments are not infrequently combined with more exotic forms of “energy balancing.” And yet I've certainly been called out many times about the fact that I am a professing Christian who - despite having a strong belief in the power of prayer and the ability of God to spontaneously work miracles and heal - also embraces many of these so-called unconventional therapies that stem from non-Christian traditions. Recently, I was listening to a sermon by pastor Toby Sumpter, in which Toby describes the link between spiritual health and physical ailments. It was a really great message, especially considering that while listening, I was attending a medical conference where there was a lot of chat among some of the world's top physicians about energy medicine and it's growing relevance and efficacy. So in an attempt to frame for myself (and you) how energy medicine and alternative healing modalities can best be presented from a Christian standpoint, I invited Toby onto the podcast. Toby is the Pastor of Preaching at Trin ormed Church in Moscow, Idaho. Ep 918How A Guy Named Gunnar Made An Online Whole Foods For People Who Aren't Rich.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/gunnar Let's face it: grocery shopping to get high quality organic food at a reasonable price isn't easy. And sure - while getting fresh, local fruits, vegetables and meats - which should always be at the core of a healthy diet - you can use farmer's markets, CSAs and local grocers. But when it comes to packaged healthy goods, from nori wraps to coconut milk to gluten-free baking powders and beyond -there's a host of options out there: Amazon, Vitacost, Walmart, Safeway...the list goes on and on. However, when it comes to buying online organic food, you'd be surprised at what you're about to discover on today's podcast with Gunnar Lovelace. Gunnar is a serial entrepreneur focused on business and health as vehicles for social change. He is the founder of Thrive Market, which is making healthy living accessible to Americans by providing the most popular organic and non-GMO groceries at what he claims is 25-50% off normal retail prices. He is also the co-founder and co-owner of Love Heals - a jewelry business in more than 200 high-end retail stores and with over 75 employees. To date, LoveHeals has funded the planting of over 1,500,000 trees and sponsored over 50,000 malnourished children. Prior to Love Heals, Gunnar started two technology companies in Los Angeles in software education and natural language processing. In addition to his for-profit companies, Gunnar has started two non-profits in education and environmental sustainability. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Gunnar grew up poor, yet still eating foods like kale and sprouts and kombucha...[7:25] -Gunnar's secret to never getting sick, and his top three supplements...[12:55] -What goes on "behind the scenes" that allows Gunnar to provide organic groceries delivered to people with free shipping at a 25-50% discount...[17:25] -Whether shopping for groceries online leaves a big carbon footprint and disrupt community small businesses...[24:30] -How to make "cardboard" packaging out of compostable mushrooms or dirt...[28:00] -Gunnar's favorite superfoods, including sprouted chia, coconut wraps, coconut manna, sprouted granola and more...[32:45 & 49:40] -If Amazon Prime is so convenient, since you can buy a friggin' alarm clock and book at the same time I'm buying my canned coconut milk, why Thrive is any better than Amazon...[39:30] -What Gunnar thinks of the Amazon acquisition of Whole Foods...[42:20] -What is Love Heals? https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/daphne Ever since a high school biology teacher informed Daphne Miller that clover produces a hormone similar to human estrogen, she has been fascinated by how our external ecosystem is linked to our internal one. Miller is a practicing family physician, author and Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco. In 2000, Miller founded WholefamilyMD, the first integrative primary care practice in San Francisco. She is a graduate of Brown University where she majored in medical anthropology. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed a residency and NIH-funded research fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. Ep 910How Sound Healing Works, Why Most Music Is At The Wrong Frequency, The Best Music For Sleep & Much More With Wholetones Composer Michael Tyrrell.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/lullaby Composer Michael Tyrrell first appeared on my website in the podcast episode "Unleashing The Phenomenon Of Using Sound & Music For Performance, Recovery, Healing & More." In that episode, I describe how, at a health summit, someone handed me a book called “The Sound Of Healing”, written by Michael - along with a handful of CD’s that Michael had recorded. These CD’s, called “Wholetones” were described on the cover as music that “heals, repairs, and protects against disease.” So, skeptical but curious, I sat down and read the entire Sound Of Healing book, and I began occasionally listening to the CD’s while driving, while getting a massage, while sitting in my sauna, etc. Every time I finished a CD, I had such a unique feeling of elation and satisfaction after listening, I downloaded a digital tuning app and retuned my guitar and my ukelele to the “frequencies” Michael described in the book. This may all seem a bit “woo-woo”, but it made a huge difference in the ability of a song to make me feel uplifted and full of positive energy as I played it. During that episode with Michael, we discussed why the music and sound you listen to every day is not tuned the right way and can actually be destroying organ function, how sound frequencies affect the human body, water, plants and more, how to “re-tune” music and sound to heal organs and provide therapy to the body, how to combine light and sound to de-stress your body, why digital sound from CD’s and mp3’s are not as good as analog sound from things like vinyl albums (and what you can do about it if you don’t want to buy a vinyl record turntable), the best way to use the sound to heal your body and to target specific organ systems, what Michael thinks about the use of tuning forks as vibrational sound therapy, and how a musician can “re-tune” their instrument to the correct frequency. So who is this guy? Michael is the founder and president of Wholetones, Inc., a healing frequency music project that helps aid health, creativity, productivity and wellbeing. After recording seven songs at different frequency levels, Michael released his album, Wholetones, accompanied by his book titled “Wholetones: The Sound of Healing” in 2014. Passionate about musical healing, Michael travels nationally and internationally as a key-note and motivational speaker on the power of musical therapy. Always connected to music, Michael bought his first guitar at the age of 10, which later lead him to study classical guitar with Joseph Lazarro, a protégée of the “grandfather of the classical guitar,”Andre Segovia. In recent years, Michael has traveled and ministered withChristian singer-songwriter, Jason Upton, and toured and recorded with Rick Pino and Fire Rain ministries. In 1987, Michael worked with Gospel Hall of Famer, Mylon Lefevre, and his band Mylon and Broken Heart, earning him a GMA Dove Award as well as a Grammy award. Michael has been in full time ministry for the last 26 years and has toured and played with many well-known Christian and secular bands. His experience as a youth pastor, worship leader, accomplished musician, producer and itinerant speaker has allowed his personal music frequency project to transcend international borders. Michael currently resides with his wife, Lillian, in Margate, Florida. He just released a brand new set of Wholetones music called "Life, Love & Lullabies". Life, Love & Lullabies is comprised of six beautiful songs, each approximately 30 minutes in length designed to help you fall asleep and stay asleep. I've been playing it for my kids and also for relaxing evenings in my infrared sauna. During today's discussion with Michael, you'll discover: -My sound healing session with a guy named Porungai in Sedona, who had a vibrating sound table and played didgeridoo, gongs, crystal bowls, etc. combined with bodywork...[11:10] -How sound effects the human body and human cells, and what kind of science or research is out there on the effect of sound frequencies on the human body...[18:00] -Why Michael tunes his instruments to the frequency that he does, and why some music is actually damaging to the human body...[24:45] -Why Michael almost fell asleep in the studio while recording "Life, Love & Lullabies", and how it is supposed to affect sleep...[42:20] -The details behind the six pieces in Life, Love & Lullabies, and how each is different...[50:55] -The best way to listen to Michael's tracks (bedside speakers vs. headphones vs. CD player, etc.)...[55:25] -Why Michael designed a specific sound frequency for pets...[61:28] -And much more... https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/mindlift Kasper van der Meulen is an author and lifestyle adventurer. He went from being overweight, burnt out and unhappy, to developing what he calls "superhuman focus, fitness and personal freedom". Suprisingly, he book “MindLift - Mental Fitness for the Modern Mind” became an Amazon best seller. https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/movementmatters She taught us how to look like a million bucks from head to toe in the podcast episode: "Making Biomechanics Fun: How to Fix Your Body, Align Your Posture and Look Like a Million Bucks From Head To Toe." Then she told us why kegel exercises suck, and why most ab exercises are useless in the podcast: "Why You Shouldn’t Suck In Your Stomach, Why Standing All Day Is Bad For You, And How Kegels Are Killing Your Core." Today's she's back to take a deep dive into her new book "Movement Matters: Essays on Movement Science, Movement Ecology, and the Nature of Movement". And her name, if you haven't guessed yet, is Katy Bowman. Part biomechanist, part science communicator, and full-time mover, Katy has educated hundreds of thousands of people on the role movement plays in the body and in the world. Blending a scientific approach with straight talk about sensible, whole-life movement solutions, her website and award-winning podcast, Katy Says, reach hundreds of thousands of people every month, and thousands have taken her live classes. Passionate about human movement outside of exercise, Katy volunteers her time to support the larger reintegration of movement into human lives by providing movement courses across widely varying demographics and working with non-profits promoting nature education. She also directs and teaches at the Nutritious Movement Center Northwest in Washington state, travels the globe to teach Nutritious Movement courses in person, and spends as much time outside as possible with her husband and children. Movement Matters is a collection of essays in which biomechanist Katy Bowman continues her groundbreaking investigation of the mechanics of our sedentary culture and the profound potential of human movement. Here she widens her You are how you move message and invites us to consider our personal relationship with sedentarism, privilege, and nature. Bowman explores: -How convenience often means less movement, not more time -The missing movement nutrients in our food -How to include more nature in education -The impact of adding movement to permaculture and ecological models -Our need for vitamin community and group movement Unapologetically direct, often hilarious, and always compassionate, Movement Matters demonstrates that human movement is powerful and important, and that living a movement-filled life is perhaps the most joyful and efficient way to transform your body, community, and world. Ep 903"The Energy": How A Gastroenterologist Physician Tapped Into 5,000 Year Old Deep Eastern Secrets To Unlock Limitless Cognitive, Spiritual & Physical Power.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/energy I first mentioned Barry Morguelan in my review of Dave Asprey's book "Headstrong". In a section of the book, Dave describes something called mitochondrial meditation, and I was actually quite intrigued… “I have been meditating for years, and in many different ways (including with lots of sensors glued to my head), but I wanted the Head Strong meditation to specifically benefit your mitochondria. So I sought out a five-thousand-year-old Chinese energetic medicine practice used to protect China’s emperors. It translates to New Life Energy, and Dr. Barry Morguelan is one of twelve remaining grandmasters of this form of training in the world, as well as a highly respected UCLA surgeon. He spent years at the top of a mountain in China while he was growing his Western medicine practice, studying and doing the kind of training where you sit with your shirt off and learn to melt snow around you with your body heat. Talk about mitochondrial function! Barry is one of the most powerful energy medicine workers I have ever met; he has helped me in many tangible ways, he has treated the presidents of multiple countries, and he flies in for Tony Robbins’s big events to help keep Tony’s impressive energy at its peak. I could not imagine a more qualified person to design this meditation for you. The entire practice of New Life Energy is built around increasing and controlling the mitochondria, allowing them to create more energy and to direct it with more power. This is a core meditation from the practice, one Dr. Barry selected specifically for mitochondrial function. There are no clinical studies of this specific form, but I’m happy to go with five thousand years of observation from the creators of this school of energy medicine. And if I’m wrong, it’s still an amazing meditation!” Needless to say, I was intrigued. So I hunted down Dr. Barry and got him onto the podcast. Who is this guy, exactly? Turns out that Dr. Barry graduated from the University of Louisville Medical School in 1973. He is a double board certified Gastroenterologist and Internal Medicine doctor trained at UCLA and now practicing in Los Angeles. Throughout his time as a western doctor, he has been profoundly interested in cutting-edge techniques that would more efficiently treat, heal and prevent disease. In 1980, Dr. Barry Morguelan’s desire to advance the western medical field resulted in a worldwide search for alternative forms of healing that could complement western medicine. The Asian symbol of wholeness, the Yin/Yang, is an analogy representing the complement for which he was looking. If Western medicine is one side of the Yin/Yang symbol, then the other side of the symbol is what his worldwide search was seeking. He learned many alternative practices over a ten year period of time. In 1990, after extensive worldwide travel, Dr. Barry Morguelan began exploring China. He exchanged his work as an accomplished Gastroenterologist and Internal Medicine physician for information on Chinese healing methods. During this time he was introduced to a select group of people in remote areas of China who resolved multiple illnesses without drugs or surgery. He realized that this was the modality he had been searching for all these years and which could powerfully complement western medicine. Energy For Success (EFS) was created by Dr. B to provide people with access to the energy source he discovered that profoundly supports success towards personally defined goals. In addition to achieving personal success, people have found that by learning how to use this Energy in their everyday lives gives them a greater sense of peace and fulfillment. EFS believes that this unique method can be used on a global scale to achieve peace throughout the world. This unprecedented opportunity to affect positive global change is what fuels Energy For Success. Since its creation, EFS has supported world leaders, entrepreneurs, health-care professionals, scientists, professional athletes, attorneys, politicians, teachers, moms, dads and many more. Energy For Success provides the support necessary to stay connected to this Energy in order to successfully accomplish your personal goals while simultaneously enhancing relationships in your personal life, local community and ultimately the world. Dr. B was invited by the elite group he found in China to train in an over 5,000-year-old system of Energy Treatments referred to as the “Grow Younger” Treatments. He traveled to China several months each year to undergo the rigorous training that was required. He accomplished this while still operating his western medical practice in Los Angeles. In 2000, Dr. B began offering his Energy Treatments to the public. The Energy Treatments that Dr. B provides reacquaint one with the core and sacred body of Energy that they had as a child. This Energy may be used in developing a successful life and is a vibration that connects one to lifeforce. It can connect

Ep 902Ben Greenfield In The Hotseat: An Exclusive Sneak-Peek Into Ben's Life Journey, The Launch Of Kion & Much More.

https://getkion.com/ben In today's podcast, the roles have been reversed... ...*I* am the interviewee. This rare, up close and personal interview is a continuation of my recent four-part series. If you haven't been following along, you can click to read Parts One, Two, Three, and Four. If you have been following along, you've already learned about my two-year journey into creating my brand new company, Kion, by answering the question that I pondered while roaming a Kauai beach two years ago... ...is it time to move on? Should I take two decades of time spent immersed in the fitness trenches, over 4,000 health books consumed, a Master's degree in physiology and biomechanics, voracious studying of every nutrition, digestion and diet tactic in existence, hardcore lessons learned from subjecting my body and brain to the most masochistic events on the face of the planet, ten years of researching and answering podcast questions on everything from muscle gain to memory to migraines… …and simply walk away? Or… …is it time to take my years of “dabbling” in the fitness industry and actually do something that helps people on a much more massive scale than me writing exercise programs, making naked YouTube videos of cold showers, running around in the forest throwing spears at hay bales and hacking together superfood smoothies in my kitchen? Is it time to be open to greatness? Be open to bringing to this world on a much more massive scale everything I've learned traveling the globe interviewing the world’s longest living, happiest, hard-charging, high-achievers, everything I've learned reading thousands of books and research papers on longevity, happiness, fulfillment, human potential, and everything I've learned immersing myself as a devoted student of the human body, mind, and spirit. Take that creativity, that curiosity, that thirst for knowledge, that education, that experience and that intuition and give it back to the world in a much, much bigger way than I ever have. Well, there's a lot more to the story than just what's happened the past couple years. So to give you the full scoop, I sat down with Kion's Chief Operating officer, Angelo Keely, for a deep-dive into my life up to this point. During our discussion, I reveal plenty of insight and juicy secrets, including: -The poignant history of my parents and how they ended up in Idaho...[10:00] -How my unconventional upbringing and education led to my first successes as a 14-year old entrepreneur...[15:30] -My intro into tennis and how I fell in love with the sport...[23:10] -How I – a scrawny book-loving computer geek – became an elite hard-charging athlete and a New York Times best-selling author and...[28:22] -My adventures as a 16 year old first year college student...[32:00] -The "perfect storm" that brewed in my second year of university that led me to take a deep dive into exercise, nutrition and entrepreneurship... https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/peng Robert Peng is a world-renowned Qigong Master, healer, and author of "The Master Key: Qigong Secrets for Vitality, Love, and Wisdom" book, CD and DVD series. Robert was born and raised in Hunan, China. At age eight, he began an intensive apprenticeship under the close guidance of the legendary monk Xiao Yao, an enlightened master known for his profound healing ability and martial arts skill. At age fifteen, Robert performed a 100 day water fast in a small dark room at a secluded monastery in the remote mountains of Hunan province. He underwent a radical spiritual transformation and awakened amazing healing powers. Master Xiao Yao encouraged Robert to develop his healing skills by studying with other Chinese masters. He pursued his training quietly while attending university in Changsha where he majored in English Literature. When he was twenty-nine years old, he began to teach publicly, and within five years he had trained over 150,000 students all over China. With his deep understanding and practice of this ancient Chinese healing art of Qigong, and with extensive life and teaching experience in the western world, Robert has developed a unique way to teach Qigong that people from different culture can easily understand and follow but meanwhile still enjoy the real essence of this ancient Chinese art of wisdom, love and vitality. In 1997, Robert was invited to relocate to Australia. Seven years later, he moved to New York City. And it was to his New York City offices where I traveled - all the way from Washington State - for a personal one-on-one deep dive into Qigong with the man himself, Robert Peng. Ep 897What A Christian-Libertarian-Environmentalist-Capitalist-Lunatic-Farmer Can Teach You About How To Eat, How To Shop & How To Think About The Way We Farm & Feed The World.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/pignessofpigs In today's podcast, I interview Joel F. Salatin - a self-described “Christian-libertarian-environmentalist-capitalist-lunatic-Farmer”. We discuss his new book The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs and much, much more. Salatin is an American farmer, lecturer, and author. He raises livestock using holistic methods of animal husbandry, free of potentially harmful chemicals, on his Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley. Meat from the farm is sold by direct-marketing to consumers and restaurants. In high school, Salatin began his own business selling rabbits, eggs, butter and chicken from his family farm at the Staunton Curb Market. He then attended Bob Jones University where he majored in English and was a student leader. He graduated in 1979. Salatin married his childhood sweetheart in 1980 and became a feature writer at the Staunton, Virginia newspaper, The News Leader, where he had worked earlier typing obituaries and police reports. Tired of “having his stories spiked,” he decided to try farming full-time after first getting involved in a walnut-buying station run by two high school boys. Salatin’s grandfather had been an avid gardener and beekeeper and a follower of J. I. Rodale, the founder of regenerative organic gardening. Salatin’s father worked as an accountant and his mother taught high school physical education. Salatin’s parents had bought the land that became Polyface after losing a farm in Venezuela to political turmoil. They had raised cattle using organic methods, but could not make a living at farming alone. Salatin, a self-described “Christian-libertarian-environmentalist-capitalist-lunatic-Farmer” produces high-quality “beyond organic” meats, which are raised using environmentally responsible, ecologically beneficial, sustainable agriculture. Jo Robinson, the author of Pasture Perfect: The Far-Reaching Benefits of Choosing Meat, Eggs and Dairy Products From Grass-Fed Animals (2004) said of Salatin, “He’s not going back to the old model. There’s nothing in county extension or old-fashioned ag science that really informs him. He is just looking totally afresh at how to maximize production in an integrated system on a holistic farm. He’s just totally innovative.” Salatin considers his farming a ministry, and he condemns the negative impact on his livelihood and lifestyle of what he considers an increasingly regulatory approach taken by the agencies of the United States government toward farming. Salatin now spends a hundred days a year lecturing at colleges and to environmental groups. And now from Christian libertarian farmer Joel Salatin is a new book - a clarion call to readers to honor the animals and the land, and produce food based on spiritual principles: The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs: Respecting and Caring for All God's Creation. This book is an important and thought-provoking explanation of how by simply appreciating the marvelous pigness of pigs, we are celebrating the Glory of God. As a man of deep faith and student of the Bible, and as a respected and successful ecological family farmer, Joel Salatin knows that God created heaven and earth and meant for all living organisms to be true to their nature and their endowed holy purpose. He intended for us to respect and care for His gift of creation, not to ravage and mistreat it for our own pleasure or wealth. The example that inspires the book's title explains what Salatin means: when huge corporate farms confine pigs in cramped and dark pens, inject them with antibiotics and feed them herbicide-saturated food simply to increase profits, they are not respecting them as a creation of God or allowing them to express even their most rudimentary uniqueness - that special role that is part of His design. Every living organism has a God-given uniqueness to its life that must be honored and respected, and too often that is not happening today. Salatin shows us the long overlooked ethics and instructions in the Bible for how to eat, how to shop, how to think about how we farm and feed the world. Through scripture and Biblical stories, he shows us why it's more vital than ever to look to the good book rather than corporate America when feeding the country and your family. Salatin makes a compelling case for Christian stewardship of the earth and how it relates to every action we take regarding our food. He also opens our eyes to a common misconception many Christians may have about environmentalism: it's not a bad thing, and definitely not just the province of secular liberals; it's really a very good thing, part of heeding God's Word. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Why Joel calls his new book the Marvelous Pigness of Pigs...[7:10] -How Christians abuse God's creation, and what's wrong with the average church potluck...[9:10] -Examples of how even the Bible is chock full of animal rights...[19:17] -Why Christians should be devoted to soil development...[22:00] -How a church

Ep 892The Human Garage: Discover How To Reboot Your Body & Recharge Your Brain With The Most Advanced Form Of Bodywork That Exists.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/humangarage Last month, I ventured to a place called "The Human Garage" in Venice Beach, California... ...for an absolutely mind-blowing full body reboot that turned out to be the most unique mash-up of deep tissue body work, aromatherapy, energy healing and combination of ancestral methods and modern science that I've ever experienced in my life. Not kidding. I left as a new man with a new body. So what is the Human Garage? At Human Garage, they pursue the Power of Alignment, balancing both body and mind to maximize the innate capacities present in each of our bodies to heal. They utilize a systemic, hands-on approach to unwinding and rebalancing body and mind. They believe by locating and releasing the origin of the problem of pain, biomechanically and biochemically, the body begins to unwind and lays the foundation for the body to heal itself. They take clients through an unwinding process with a hands-on release therapy they created and designed to realign the body from the inside out. Their treatment is based on the belief that every person and every body is different. Their belief is that people ultimately know their own bodies better than anyone else and have to actively participate in its recovery. Unlike traditional modalities for treating pain, they believe in finding and treating the origin of discomfort to avoid chasing symptoms of pain and dysfunction. Their approach is based on a sound belief in the connection between body and mind and they offer a variety of services to bring the body back into balance. In addition to their unwinding and release alignment protocol, they also provide services such as nutritional supplementation and coaching, personal training and biomechanical development to maximize well-being and health. They also offer a wide variety of functional foods and hand-crafted essential oils to keep your body and mind happy, healthy, and in motion. On today's podcast with Human Garage founder Garry Lineham, you'll discover: -The story of how Garry went from a bed-bound ex-bodybuilder to completely reinventing and fixing his anatomy...[13:15] -Why most people (including doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists) don't see the full picture and "get it wrong" when it comes to permanently fixing your joint aches and pains...[17:00] -The surprising number of people who work on you all at the same time at the Human Garage (I personally had 4 people working on me at once)...[25:30 & 47:55] -How Garry "talks to your body" and asks it questions, then sense the response...[27:20 & 55:40] -Why Garry endorses high dose curcumin and ketones combined with one special ingredient (this one surprised me) to make his work even more effective...[83:00] -The "libido tea" and special "sprig water" Garry uses...[87:40 & 97:40] -Where essential oils and aromatherapy fit into the healing process, and how you can use them...[92:45] -How to incorporate sound healing and music into deep tissue therapy...[93:30] -And much more! Ep 887A Deep Brain Stimulation Device That Causes Your Body To Experience A Massive Natural Surge Of Dopamine & Serotonin...& Fall Into A State Of Deep Relaxation - No Drugs Required.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/electricfish If you read the recent article "The Story Of How An Electric Torpedo Fish Can Put You Into A State Of Deep Relaxation, Enhance Sleep & Eliminate Stress", then you're no doubt familiar with Kelly Roman... In that article, Kelly describes how, in 46 AD, the personal physician to the Roman Emperor Claudius applied an electric torpedo fish to the Emperor’s forehead to successfully relieve his migraines. Don't believe me? Check out “Thousands of Years Before Modern Electricity, Ancient Romans Used Electrotherapy to Effectively Treat Neurological Conditions“. Anyways, this first “wearable” was actually alive, and the “user experience” was provided by the twitching underbelly of the fish, which was enraged from being pulled out of the sea and which covered the top half of the patient’s face. It filled the patient’s nose with its fishy scent, and delivered at first a painful and then numbing electric shock (roughly the same voltage as a hairdryer dropped in a bathtub). “These are still the early days of wearable neurostimulation,” an ancient tech blogger would have reported, “But on the bright side, the device, while possessing eyes and teeth, is at least conveniently wireless.” Heh. Today we know that electrically stimulating the trigeminal nerve, which runs, in part, beneath the forehead, does in fact effectively suppress migraines. Indeed, the FDA approved the first wearable neurostimulation device to treat migraines in 2012 and like the torpedo fish, the wearable’s electrode is placed on the forehead. But the idea of using electrical stimulation to affect not only pain perception, but mood and sleep, arose more recently in human history, and in today's podcast with Kelly you'll not only discover the fascinating history of electrical stimulation for addressing cognitive issues, but you'll also discover how a small company called “Fisher Wallace” developed a brand new deep brain stimulation device called the "Circadia" that causes your body to experience a massive natural release of dopamine, serotonin and fall into a state of deep relaxation, no drugs required. Kelly co-founded Fisher Wallace Labs, a 10-year-old medical device company, where he leads product development, regulatory affairs, marketing, and VR strategy. Prior to Fisher Wallace, Kelly served as a business development executive at several media and technology companies, including Nielsen Media and the scientific journal Nature. Kelly is known in the medical device industry as leading the commercialization of medical grade, wearable neurostimulation. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The fascinating story of the electric torpedo fish that the ancient Romans used for neurostimulation...[9:15] -How electroconvulsive therapy got such a bad reputation...[13:10] -How two brothers called "the Liss brothers" fit in to bring electrostimulation to the modern psychiatric industry...[18:00] -How Kelly discovered the device that the Liss brothers created and turned it into the Fisher Wallace stimulator...[23:30] -Why electrostimulation has now entered the mainstream, and Kelly's thoughts on the new devices out there like Muse and Thync...[28:20] -How electrostimulation can be used to increase HRV, serotonin and dopamine and to decrease cortisol...[47:00] -How the Circadia devices compares to other sleep enhancing devices out there like Muse and Thync...[48:15] -And much more... Ep 886The Science of Reading People, Captivating A Conversation, Interpreting Body Language, Decoding Facial Expressions & Much More!

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/captivate When I was attending University of Idaho, my roommate was one of the top vacuum cleaner salesman in the world. Believe it or not I've actually had him on the podcast in a separate episode which you can listen to here. I remember being fascinated with this guy's personal library. It was chock-full of books about reading body language, how to tell if people were lying to you, how to tell if people were attracted to you, how to negotiate, how to argue, and how to successfully enchant people and engage in social situations. So I read just about every book in his library and became incredibly interested in the science of human body language and human emotions. However, for the past several years I really haven't delved into much of the science behind understanding human connections and human interactions until my interest was recently re-sparked when reading a fascinating new book called Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People. As I usually do when I find a book incredibly intriguing, I folded over an enormous number of pages and hunted down the author to interview her for today's podcast. If you ever feel awkward at networking events, wonder what your date really thinks of you, wish you could decode people, or want to learn more about the science of people, this episode is for you. As a human behavior hacker, my guest on today's podcast - Vanessa Van Edwards - created a research lab to study the hidden forces that drive us. And she’s definitely cracked the code. In her new book Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People, she shares shortcuts, systems, and secrets for taking charge of your interactions at work, at home, and in any social situation. These aren’t the people skills you learned in school. This is the first comprehensive, science backed, real life manual on how to captivate anyone - and a completely new approach to building connections. Just like knowing the formulas to use in a chemistry lab, or the right programming language to build an app, Captivate provides simple ways to solve people problems. You learn, for example… -How to work a room: Every party, networking event, and social situation has a predictable map. Discover the sweet spot for making the most connections. -How to read faces: It’s easier than you think to speed-read facial expressions and use them to predict people’s emotions. -How to talk to anyone: Every conversation can be memorable—once you learn how certain words generate the pleasure hormone dopamine in listeners. When you understand the laws of human behavior, your influence, impact, and income will increase significantly. What’s more, you will improve your interpersonal intelligence, make a killer first impression, and build rapport quickly and authentically in any situation - negotiations, interviews, parties, and pitches. You’ll never interact the same way again. Vanessa Van Edwards is the lead investigator at Science of People, a human behavior research lab. She is a Huffington Post columnist and published author. Her innovative work has been featured on NPR, Business Week and USA Today. She regularly gives keynotes and appears in the media to talk about her research. She has written for CNN, Fast Company and Forbes. Her latest book, Captivate, was chosen as one of Apple’s Most Anticipated Books of 2017. During my discussion with Vanessa, you'll discover: -How we can "smell" fear in people, why women on birth control pills may choose the wrong mate, and how our level of hormones can actually change our facial structure and compatibility with other people...[9:35] -What a "PQ score" is and why it is so relevant to success...[14:27] -The biggest mistake most people make at social events, and where successful "hyper-networkers" stand...[17:50] -What you can learn from the most successful TED Talks based on the same three things that every TED presenter does...[23:20] -The "trust hormone" that Ben injected for several weeks that can also be released via eye contacts and handshakes...[26:35] -Why Vanessa took a 7 day vow of silence, and the shocking lessons she learned by "not talking"...[37:15] -One of the best hacks you can use to sync your brain to someone else you are talking to...[43:50] -What is the process Vanessa describes in her book called "the nut job"?
