Everything You Need To Know For Antivirus & Immune System Enhancement: A Special One-Two Podcast Episode With Dr. Matt Cook & Dr. Matt Dawson.

In last week's post entitled "Three Little Known, Unconventional Antiviral Approaches For Boosting Your Immune System", I laid out a fully comprehensive, novel, and alternative health strategy to tackle health issues related to viruses and immune system enhancement—strategies that often go beyond simple pharmaceutical pill-popping or conventional medicine (similar to my previous posts on issues I've personally dealt with in the past, such as MRSA, and Giardia). In that article, I dove into natural ways I've been strengthening my immune system for my hefty amount of airline travel, even in the face of recent viral outbreaks that have made me have to be even more careful and thorough in my approach. Two friends of mine, Dr. Matthew Cook and Dr. Matthew Dawson, are true experts in the realms of functional and precision medicine, and both were kind enough to offer me their advice when it comes to boosting immunity and fighting viruses. I've included their audio in this podcast for your listening and learning pleasure. My first guest, Dr. Matthew Cook, has been on the following podcasts: Killing Mold & Mycotoxins For Good, The Craziest IVs You Can Get For Energy, Fixing Knees & Back Without Surgery & Much More. Immortal Cells, Biohacking Pain, Killing Lyme, Stem Cell Confusion, How Ketamine Works & Much More What You Didn’t Know About CBD & THC, Fixing Lyme Disease, The Full Body Blood Change Reboot, Peptides 101, Hyperthermia & Much More Dr. Cook founded BioReset Medical Corporation and, as acting President, operates a regenerative and pain medicine practice that offers leading-edge non-surgical solutions in orthopedic medicine, sports medicine, regenerative pain medicine, and stem cell medicine. He is a board-certified anesthesiologist with over 20 years of experience in medical practice. Currently, Dr. Cook is president of California Anesthesia and medical director of the National Surgery Center, Los Gatos, CA. In addition, he sits on the scientific advisory board of several high profile medical companies including BM Doc, FREmedica & Vasper Systems. Dr. Cook’s early career as an anesthesiologist and medical director of an outpatient surgery center that specializes in sports medicine and orthopedic procedures provided invaluable training in the skills that are needed to become a leader in the emerging fields of musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging, nerve hydrodissection, and stem cell medicine. My second pair of guests, Dr's Matt Dawson and Michael Mallin of WildHealthMD, have been on the following podcasts: How To Use Precision Medicine To Enhance Athletic Performance, Defy Aging, Balance Hormones, Fix The Heart & Much More. Why Your DNA Is Worthless (& What You Need To Focus On Instead) CBD & Cannabis Special Episode: How CBD Affects Hormones, Fat Loss, Athletic Performance, Sleep, Recovery & Much More Dr. Matt Dawson is a precision medicine physician in Lexington, KY, co-host of the Wild Health Podcast, and has been obsessed with performance optimization as long as he can remember. He received scholarships to play two sports in college even with “minimal talent” because of his voracious reading and implementation of any fitness or nutritional techniques that would give him an edge. Dr. Dawson continued that obsession in medical school, and as a physician, he has won national awards for education, innovation, and leadership. He has lectured in over 20 countries and trained thousands of other physicians through live lectures, online education, two textbooks, and an educational app. Dr. Dawson combines his training in genomics and functional medicine to give personalized, precise medical guidance. His obsession with performance optimization has morphed from, initially athletic, to now mental performance and longevity. Whether it's a professional athlete or a grandparent optimizing their mental clarity and mobility to keep up with their grandkids, Dr. Dawson is passionate about helping everyone perform at their absolute peak. Dr. Mike Mallin is a physician in Bend, OR who is obsessed with health performance and precision medicine and is co-founder of the Wild Health Podcast. He completed medical school in South Carolina and trained in Emergency Medicine in Salt Lake City, UT where he competed in several ultramarathons and found his love for the mountains and performance. Mike currently practices in Bend, OR and Lexington, KY in his precision medicine clinics. He is also co-founder of the Ultrasound Podcast, an educational podcast that has taught thousands of physicians all over the world how to use ultrasound. During this podcast, you'll discover: Part 1 w/ Dr. Matt Cook of BioReset Medical (Begins at 5:25) -Dr. Cook's history w/ virology...7:10 Studied feline immunodeficiency virus, a model for HIV Anesthesiologist w/ an interesting approach to pain management Began to successfully treat patients w/ complex illnesses Many patients have viral infections, chronic illnesses w/ a viral overlight -A brief history of

The Book That's Pissed Me Off The Most This Year (& How To Fix America's Food System) - The Mark Hyman Podcast With Ben Greenfield.

I recently read a book that frankly, pardon the language, pissed me off. The book, entitled "Food Fix: How to Save Our Health, Our Economy, Our Communities, and Our Planet--One Bite at a Time" is the brand new release from Dr. Mark Hyman. Dr. Hyman strongly believes that the most powerful tool to reverse the global epidemic of chronic disease, heal the environment, reform politics, and revive economies is food. His new book explains that we eat has tremendous implications not just for our waistlines, but also for the planet, society, and the global economy. In Food Fix, #1 bestselling author Dr. Mark Hyman explains how our food and agriculture policies are corrupted by money and lobbies that drive our biggest global crises: the spread of obesity and food-related chronic disease, climate change, poverty, violence, educational achievement gaps, and more. Pairing the latest developments in nutritional and environmental science with an unflinching look at the dark realities of the global food system and the policies that make it possible, Food Fix is a hard-hitting manifesto that changed the way I think about food forever, and it provides practical solutions for citizens, businesses, and policy makers to create a healthier world, society, and planet. Dr. Hyman is a physician and New York Times best-selling author. He is the founder and medical director of The UltraWellness Center, a proponent of functional medicine and, the board president of clinical affairs of the Institute for Functional Medicine. He's the bestselling author of multiple books, including the brand new title we discuss on this show: "Food Fix: How to Save Our Health, Our Economy, Our Communities, and Our Planet--One Bite at a Time". During our discussion, you'll discover: -What prompted Dr. Hyman to write his new book...7:04 Saw many patients w/ the same condition as a result of the food they're eating Food system is the main driver behind the problem Food policies make up the system Food industry is behind the policies; biggest lobby group in Washington is food and agriculture industries A handful of companies are the leading culprits $15 trillion industry; makes up ~17% of the global economy Employs over 20 million workers just in the U.S. The way food is produced is a major contributor to climate change Children w/ healthy diets vs. children w/ unhealthy show dramatic differences in brain size and IQ Processed food is a contributing factor to mental health issues CDC study: Health and Academic Achievement -Why the true cost of food is not what you see at the store...13:58 Take into account the cost of the entire life cycle of the food: production, storage, eating, waste, etc. Massive environmental destruction Who pays for deforestation, chemicals that destroy soil, climate change that results? Methods used for modern farming are killing the soil Obesity, chronic disease Food stamp recipients buy processed food and soda predominantly We pay for it via medicaid and medicare The companies who cause the damage don't pay for their actions Regenerative farming is a sustainable farming method Farmland LP invests in conventional farms and converts to sustainable farms -How food stamp programs contribute to the problem...20:33 Food and farm workers are not paid a livable wage; they can't afford health care and are on food stamps SNAP = Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program No nutrition standards for SNAP assistance 70% of food purchased w/ SNAP is processed food, soda, etc. It's helped w/ security, but not w/ health Incentives such as lower premiums for healthy choices are more effective than penalizing unhealthy behavior Even hunger advocacy organizations are opposed to changes in the program; they are funded by the food industry Around 20% of Coca Cola revenue is from food stamps Wal-Mart nets $137 billion per year from food stamps -Inconvenient and invisible truths related to the food industry...28:54 The food system is driving most of the crises we see in the world today -The monopoly of seeds in the food industry...34:15 4-6 seed companies control 60% of the seeds GMO seeds Farmers are stuck in the mix (indebted to seed companies, loss of autonomy in their operations) High suicide rate among Indian farmers -What is the difference between dirt and soil, and the dangers of monocropping...36:40 A living organism: There is more microbial life in a handful of soil than anywhere on the planet Growing plants adds carbon to the soil Soil holds water (protection against drought) Depleted soil results in less nutrients in the produce Agro Forestry: trees as a part of the solution -The problem of food waste...42:40 We waste 40% of our food in the U.S. It would require an area the size of China to grow the food that is wasted Environmental problems from disposed food emitting gases in landfills What can you do? Start a compost pile Give away to farmer's market Many cities have mandatory composting or giveaway to the poor Unused food is being used for e

The Toxicity Of Plants, Carnivore For Athletes, Does Meat Cause Acidity, The “Game Changers” Debate & Much More With Dr. Paul Saladino.

Paul Saladino is back. The CarnivoreMD, after originally appearing on my show in the episodes... - Everything You Need to Know About the Carnivore Diet - Carnivore Diet, Cleaning Out Your Colon, Eating Brains, Hunting Zebras & Much More ...has just put the finishing touches on his new book The Carnivore Code, and graciously agreed to record an epic solosode for my listeners in which he delves into all the questions you asked him in the comments section after our first couple episodes together. Prepare for a complete carnivore education, including: -How Paul defines the carnivore diet...5:42 It's a diet that emphasizes and focuses on animal foods The majority of our nutrients comes from animal foods Aware of plant toxicity; minimal (or no) plant matter The best place for vitamins and minerals is animals, with the exception of Vitamin C "Nose to tail" idea Most toxic plant foods: Grains, legumes, nuts, seeds Seeds are highly defended by the plants; high levels of toxicity Most leafy greens are toxic for humans High oxalate foods - almonds, root veggies Moderately toxic: High fructose foods: honey, berries Sweet potatoes, other sweet tubers and roots Least toxic: Avocados, olives, squash Ben's cronometer of his daily diet A carnivore diet is not simply muscle meat Nose to tail Includes bones, marrow, cartilage Carnivore diet is a "soft" keto diet 1:1 ratio (1 gram of protein per pound of body weight) -How the carnivore diet affects athletic performance...17:25 1. Metabolic characteristics of keto-adapted ultra-endurance runners 2. Effects of a 4-Week Very Low-Carbohydrate Diet on High-Intensity Interval Training Responses 3. Keto-adaptation enhances exercise performance and body composition responses to training in endurance athletes Ensure you check your salt levels if on a low-carb diet (10+ grams per day) -How to get adequate iodine while on the carnivore diet...29:30 Redmond Sea Salt (from the ground in Utah) No microplastics 10 g of Redmond has 150 mcg of iodine (equivalent to the RDA) Red meat Egg yolks (100 mcg w/ 4 egg yolks) Don't take too much iodine -Whether the entire global population could be on a carnivore diet...32:45 Is the current agricultural system working? Currently U.S. system is mono crop agriculture (nutrient depletion, no animals to replenish nutrients) Just plants on land is "feed lot feeding" of plants Regenerative agriculture (ecosystem feeding) Grass feeding and finishing is the optimal situation Regenerative agriculture is carbon negative White Oak Pastures is a good example of regenerative agriculture Multiple species on the same lot reduces parasite presence The current agriculture system is unsustainable -Why the stressor of eating plants is different from a "good" stressor like exercise...42:09 Plant molecules are plant pharmaceuticals Plant and human biochemistry and mutually dependent There is no "package insert" of side effects that comes when eating plants Paul's first podcast w/ Ben talked about "collateral damage" in plants Plants ameliorate symptoms, not treating the root cause Glutathione levels in cold water study We don't need sulforaphane to get adequate glutathione If we live a "radical lifestyle" of environmental hormetics, we don't need the plant molecules Studies referenced: 4. Uric Acid and Short-Term Glutathione Levels During Whole Body Cold Exposure -How the carnivore diet activates pathways in our bodies...54:50 Environmental hormetics: heat, cold, exercise, etc. Nrf2 pathway is affected positively by plant intake Sirtuin pathways activated by resveratrol Doses in a nose to tail diet are adequate Studies referenced: 5. Effect of increasing fruit and vegetable intake by dietary intervention on nutritional biomarkers and attitudes to dietary change: a randomised trial 10. Resveratrol Reduces the Levels of Circulating Androgen Precursors But Has No Effect on, Testosterone, Dihydrotestosterone, PSA Levels or Prostate Volume. A 4-Month Randomized Trial in Middle-Aged Men 11. Placebo-controlled, randomised clinical trial: high- dose resveratrol treatment for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease 12. The Essential Medicinal Chemistry of Curcumin 13. The dark side of curcumin -Do PH levels reach acidic levels on the carnivore diet?...1:13:36 Yes, if it is not constructed properly Acid load is balanced on: protein and minerals If we get enough minerals, it will balance the protein acidity Many on the carnivore diet don't get enough calcium Many minerals that are only present in bones Bone broth is the easiest way to do this (just add vinegar) Studies referenced: 14. The Shocking Truth About You Getting "EMF'D": 5G, Wi-Fi & Cell Phones - Hidden Harms & How To Protect Yourself

This week, I sat slack-jawed and shocked in my bed as I read my friend Dr. Joseph Mercola's new book EMF'D: 5G, Wi-Fi & Cell Phones: Hidden Harms & How To Protect Yourself. The hazards of electronic pollution may once have been the stuff of science fiction, but now we know they're all too real. And with the advent of 5G ultra-wideband technology, the danger is greater than ever. The dangers of electromagnetic fields are real - and I just had to get Dr. Mercola on this podcast to talk about exactly what they are and how you can protect yourself. He's one of the world's foremost authorities on alternative health, and in this latest title, he has mined the scientific literature to offer a radical new understanding of how electromagnetic fields impact your body and mind. In this first-of-its-kind guide, he reveals: • What EMFs (electromagnetic fields) actually are, where you find them in your daily life, and how they affect you • The toll that EMFs have been proven to take in conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and neuropsychiatric illnesses • Why you've been largely kept in the dark about this threat to your health • How you can actually repair the damage done by EMFs at a cellular level • Practical strategies to protect yourself and your loved ones from EMFs at home, at work, and out in the world The coming 5G technology will be pervasive and powerful. It will also be one of the largest public-health experiments in history-with no way of opting out. That's why you need to listen to. Now. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Why Dr. Mercola wrote this new book...7:26 Mitochondrial dysfunction is really one of the primary ways we age and develop chronic illness Three years ago realized EMFs were one of the primary ways our mitochondria are damaged and very few people were warning the public about that Written 14 books but this is my last one for 5-10 years as I have a new strategy for creating content -Dr. Mercola's new strategy for creating content...9:22 Well you were a major part in that when you told me it took you three years to write you new book Boundless and it had 3000 references. Another factor was conversation I had with Dave Asprey in a private party we were both at JJ Virgin at Mindshare and he recommended a book by Ryan Holiday Perennial Seller which I read and helped me understand how to write a classic book that will be read for decades requires many years to create and many many drafts of the book as the first few drafts are typically terrible. So rather than write more books I am going to be writing scientific reviews for journals. It has been about twenty years since I published in the science journals and I thought I was about time to start up again Especially because I have some GREAT secret sauce resources to do that and I can share with your audience -Oh yeah? What are those resources?...12:30 One is my science editor, Tyler Lebaron who I introduced you to and you did podcast on molecular hydrogen. He is one of the sharpest scientists I know, humble, brilliant chemist, biochemist and knows molecular biology well and he is reviewing all the science I compile for accuracy. The big one is RSS feeds (really simple syndication), which is essentially an easy way to stay up to date with your favorite websites, such as blogs or online magazines or PubMed which is really important RSS feeds were how I was able to find and write about so much great content in the early days of my site. In 2005 I used an RSS reader called Google Reader but they shut it down six years ago. Would not use it now though even if it was up because Google is evil on steroids. Alternatives to Google Feedly Qwant search engine Brave browser How To Migrate From Chrome To Brave Meta.org RSS Feed search for PubMed lets you follow as many search terms so you don’t have to go to Pub Med every day and do individual searches for them There has been a trend towards open access and now nearly 1/3 articles on PubMed are now free to read If you or someone you know has academic credentials at a university you can typically get free access ResearchGate.com 25 page paper with 200 references on blood flow restriction (BFR). It isn’t published yet but I can give your listeners a 25 page consumer summary with videos and if they want can send the review paper after it is published in BFR.Mercola.com -Why does the public not accept that EMF is a serious danger to their health?...22:00 In 2011, the WHO labels cell phones as a class 2B carcinogen 2018, NTP study shows that cell phones are clearly class I carcinogen Cellphones are the cigarettes of the 21st century Kills you slowly Companies knew it killed customers (as do cell phone companies) Same PR agencies discredit researchers (creating doubt and controversy among the public) Convenient and useful Invisible Captured media Captured federal regulatory agencies FCC started 6 BILLION dollar program to spread 5G to rural areas EMF is unavoidable (unlike cigarette smoke, which you can m

A New Treatment For Blasting Tissues With Oxygen, Growing New Blood Vessels, Recovering Faster, Killing Bacteria, Building Stem Cells & Much More!

I've recently become a huge fan of something called "Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy" treatment. After getting an HBOT USA softshell unit for my home (the Vitaeris 320 model), I've been in it every day for 40-60 minutes for reading or napping, and it's become a complete game changer in my personal recovery and health protocol. You can read more in my guest's new book "Oxygen Under Pressure: Using Hyperbaric Oxygen to Restore Health, Reduce Inflammation, Reverse Aging and Revolutionize Health Care", but the benefits include: Hyperoxygenation: The delivery of 100% oxygen under pressure (1.5 to 3 ATA) within the hyperbaric chamber provides up to 20 times normal oxygen to all tissues within the body. This oxygen supersaturation is in marked contrast to breathing room air (21% oxygen at 1 ATA). Direct Pressure to Oxygen Molecules: Inside the hyperbaric chamber, oxygen molecules are compressed and become more soluble, obeying the scientific principles of Boyle’s Universal Gas Law. This phenomenon allows oxygen to effortlessly cross cell membranes and enter all of the body’s fluid systems, including plasma, synovial, lymphatic, interstitial (between cells) and cerebrospinal fluids. Normally, only the red blood cells are capable of transporting oxygen throughout the body. Now, all body fluids combine to provide alternate transport routes for extra oxygen and cumulatively can provide up to 20 times normal O2. Bactericidal Ammunition – Aids in Killing Bacteria: Conditions created within the hyperbaric oxygen chamber are not favorable for the viability of bacteria, fungi and viruses – organisms that cannot survive in an oxygen rich environment. Extra oxygen is provided to the white blood cells (leukocytes) which become supercharged in the battle against bacteria responsible for causing infection and illness. Angiogenesis – The Formation of New Blood Vessels: Hyperbaric Oxygen stimulates the body to grow new capillaries (angiogenesis), essentially building a new collateral circulatory system to serve injured and healthy tissues alike. The resulting neovascularization is extremely helpful for reaching tissues and organs that have restricted blood flow (ischemic areas) as well as areas of the body that are lacking or compromised in available oxygen (hypoxic areas). Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) Stimulation – A Surge of Antioxidant Capabilities: Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) is an important enzyme found in human cells that inactivates superoxides, the most common free radicals in the body, responsible for destruction of cells. Hyperbaric Oxygen stimulates SOD production thereby helping the body to rid itself of the byproducts of inflammation and damaging free radicals. Synergy With Antibiotics: Hyperbaric Oxygen has been proven to create a synergistic effect when administered in conjunction with certain antibiotics. Synergy can be understood as two or more agents working together to produce a result not obtainable by any of the agents independently. Administration of HBOT biomechanically potentiates the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy. The capabilities of sulfanomides are increased up to ten fold when HBOT is added. Increased oxygen levels from HBOT alone also act as antibiotics by impairing bacterial metabolism. Improves Osteoblast and Osteoclast Production: Faster regeneration of bone is derived by hyperbaric oxygen’s ability to stimulate and increase production of specialized cells (osteoblasts and osteoclasts) responsible for bone repair and formation. Increases Fibroblast and Collagen Production: These essential building blocks of connective-tissue, tendon and skin matrix (fibroblasts and collagen) provide the structural framework throughout the body and play a critical role in wound healing. Fibroblast and collagen reproduction and growth are aided by the added availability of increased oxygen provided during hyperbaric conditions. Decreases Inflammation Inflammation, one of the most common mechanisms of disease and injury, is caused by biochemical byproducts that are manufactured by the body’s natural immune response. Hyperbaric oxygen markedly decreases inflammation by stimulating the body’s own anti-inflammatory defenses. This may be the single most important function of HBOT. This podcast is all about HBOT. Jason Sonners DC, DIBAK, DCBCN is owner and Clinic Director of Core Therapies Family Wellness Center, New Jersey Hyperbaric Oxygen Center, and HBOT USA Corp. As the owner and one of the doctors at Core Therapies, Dr. Sonners primarily practices functional medicine taking on complex cases including autoimmune conditions, chronic inflammation and neurologic dysfunction and using treatment methods to help improve function and tap into the body’s innate ability to heal. He uses nutrition, detoxification, hyperbaric oxygen and herbal therapies to improve the health and quality of life for his patients. What Olive Oil Should Taste Like, The Scary Truth About Olive Oil, Can You Cook With Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Much More!

I drink oodles of extra virgin olive oil. Every day. My kids and wife do too. It's a crucial staple in our diet...yet there's plenty of confusion around olive oil... Can you cook with olive oil? How should you store olive oil? What should you look for in a good olive oil? How do you differentiate between all the different certificates and grades of olive oil? And much more! So in today's podcast, I interview T. J. Robinson, aka "The Olive Oil Hunter ®" who is one of the world's most respected authorities on all matters olive oil. Known for his “platinum palate,” he is one of the few Americans invited to serve as a judge in prestigious Italian olive oil tasting competitions. These days he is dedicated to importing rare fresh-pressed olive oil via The Fresh Pressed Olive Oil Club, the most flavorful and healthiest extra virgin olive oil on the planet, until now virtually impossible to obtain year-round in the U.S. All his oils are independently lab tested and certified for 100% purity. During our discussion, you'll discover: -What makes olive oil so efficacious to our health...5:13 Science database of olive oil research, including studies Ben mentions Olive oil leads to a distinct drop in blood pressure w/ no change in cholesterol; increased triglyceride, decreased HDL count (atherogenic index) Bigger predictor of C/V disease is the HDL to triglyceride ratio (more so than total LDL cholesterol) Research on mental health and depression Stabilization of blood glucose w/ small amounts of olive oil throughout the day Rheumatoid arthritis Mediterranean diet associated w/ improvements in longevity (not the modern bastardized version) Fasting Sprouting, fermenting, etc. The primary fatty acid in olive oil is oleic acid (C18:1) It's a double bond (less oxidation); safe for cooking at high temperatures Two fatty acids for the brain: Oleic acid, and fish oil (sardines, mackerel, salmon, herring) Other bioactive compounds: Bi0phenyls (found in the olive fruit that scavenges free radical species) BGF podcast w/ Dr. William Li (author of Eat to Beat Disease) Oleocanthol has the same anti-inflammatory pathways as ibuprofen (sans the gastric side effects) Phytosterols Squalines (extra virgin olive oil has high amounts) to protect the skin Alphatocopherols (Vitamin E) Hydroxy turpenic acids (lowers inflammation, risk of cancer, decreases blood pressure) -How T.J. A Whole New Way To Deal With Stress, Trauma & PTSD In Just Seconds: The First Clinically Validated Wearable That Helps You De-Stress, Focus, Sleep, Stay Energized & Remain Calm.

Dr. David Rabin, MD, PhD is a guy who designed a fascinating wearable that he showed me a few weeks ago when he came to my house in Spokane, WA. A board-certified psychiatrist, translational neuroscientist, and inventor specializing in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders, Dr. Rabin has spent the last 14 years researching treatments to combat the negative effects of chronic stress on physical and mental health. He received his MD in medicine and his PhD in neuroscience from Albany Medical College and trained in psychiatry at Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Rabin helped to organize the world’s largest controlled study of psychedelic medicines in collaboration with colleagues at Yale, the University of Southern California, Mt. Sinai, Modern Spirit, and MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies) to determine the mechanisms of the dramatic therapeutic benefits observed following psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy in treatment-resistant mental illness. The study has begun and is collecting DNA samples from patients with treatment-resistant PTSD who are participating in the MAPS-sponsored Phase 3 FDA trial of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy to evaluate the gene expression changes that result from the therapy. He is also the founder and executive director of the Board of Medicine, a nonprofit organization of physicians and scientists spearheading the development of the world’s first evidence-based peer-reviewed clinical guidelines for the safe use of complementary and alternative medicines including medical cannabis. Dr. Rabin works with patients with treatment-resistant conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and substance use disorders. In his work, he found that when patients were in a calm, safe environment their physiological markers of stress improved, their mood got better, and they were better able to focus and manage their symptoms. He also found that mindfulness techniques and deep breathing worked quite well to reduce stress in patients, but that his patients had a difficult time practicing these techniques on their own in their day-to-day lives. In 2014, Dr. Rabin began his research on what would become the device I'm referring to, "Apollo" in a neuroscience lab at the University of Pittsburgh. After exploring academic research on mindfulness, biofeedback, deep breathing, and a host of sensory techniques including music therapy, Dr. Rabin found that touch is an often overlooked, but an incredibly vital pathway for quickly establishing relaxation in the mind and in the body. He quickly got to work developing Apollo, a breakthrough wearable technology that uses the neuroscience of touch and vibration to combat the negative effects of stress during his research at the University of Pittsburgh. Apollo sends gentle waves of vibration to your body that are clinically shown to bring your heart, lungs, and mind into balance, resulting in improved heart rate variability (HRV). By signaling safety to the body through your sense of touch, Apollo offers you control over your stress, so you can tackle whatever comes next. After clinical trials of the Apollo technology demonstrating its reliable effects on mood, sleep, and focus, Dr. Rabin co-founded Apollo Neuroscience to make the discovery available to the public. Chronic stress tells your body that you’re under threat. These consistent disturbances put your body into fight-or-flight, making it difficult to stay calm, focus your attention, and get good sleep. Apollo’s vibrations work by signaling safety to the brain, thereby soothing the stress response and rapidly restoring balance to the body. Apollo Neuroscience has created the first wearable system that upgrades your body instead of just tracking it. Clinical studies show that Apollo increases physical endurance, mental performance under stress, access to meditative states, and helps users reach relaxation before bed rapidly by improving heart rate variability (HRV). Apollo’s effects occur within 5 minutes of use and have no known side effects. Apollo’s AI mobile app delivers gentle layered vibration frequencies to the body via a small modular wearable worn on the ankle or wrist. Users will be able to connect Apollo’s mobile app to Apple Health Kit to see how their biometrics improve with Apollo use over time. The Apollo system has been tested and independently validated by individual members of a number of different institutions in the military and many Veterans, several academics at Universities, >10 elite athletics clubs, as well as in two University clinical trials with 6 more trials currently underway. The Company has over 1500 beta testers and has conducted over 500 long-term case studies with consistent results. Positive symptom improvements and voluntary reductions in habit-forming substances such as opioid narcotics, benzodiazepines, amp

High-Intensity Resistance Training, Low-Carb Mediterranean Diet, Peptides, Plant Medicines, Psychedelics & More With Keith Norris!

Keith Norris, who first appeared on the podcast Why Strong People Are Harder To Kill (And How To Get Strong), is one of those few lucky souls who has been able to completely transition out of corporate America and dive headlong into his passion for bettering lives by teaching the art and science of physical culture. He not only “walks the walk” on a day-to-day basis, but his economic well-being hinges on his precepts of “proper exercise, stellar diet and lifestyle, and intelligent “hacks” and supplementation” forming the bedrock foundation for a long, healthy and prosperous life. The very essence of Paleo f(x)™ is rooted in the idea of putting theory to practice; an idea that Keith is heavily invested in, having been blogging about these issues since early 2007. And his “30-thousand-foot view” for the Paleo f(x)™ enterprise serves as the movement’s guiding, north star. And with a belief that intelligent “hacks” can help bridge the gap between our elegant evolutionary programming and sub-par environmental surroundings, Keith is continually ferreting out and backing the most promising of technological enhancements. As a founding partner of ID Life, Keith is helping to usher-in 21st century, optimal supplement dosing. It might be said that Keith lives by the credo written by the Greek poet and soldier, Archilochus, over 2,600 years ago – “We do not rise to the level of our expectations. We fall to the level of our training”. And his vision for Paleo f(x)™ is that of a battle-tested warrior, preserving the right of everyone to fully, actively and enthusiastically engage in the human experience. 32 Natural Ways To Increase Testosterone (+ Testosterone Cream Vs. Injections) - Fully Updated Re-Release

Last year I spoke at an event called "A4M" in Las Vegas. My entire presentation was focused on 32 different ways to increase testosterone naturally, with no injections or hormone replacement protocols required. I'm not against bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), but I do think one should explore as many natural alternatives as possible first. Or, for even more bang for the buck, pair BHRT with the tactics you'll discover in this episode. A4M, which stands for "The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine" is dedicated to the advancement of tools, technology, and transformations in healthcare that can detect, treat, and prevent diseases associated with aging. They promote the research of practices and protocols that have the potential to optimize the human aging process. The organization is also dedicated to educating healthcare professionals and practitioners, scientists, and members of the public on biomedical sciences, breakthrough technologies, and medical protocols through our advanced education entity: Metabolic Medical Institute (MMI). Their event in Vegas each year is, in my opinion, well worth checking out. Recently, in two separate papers, testosterone therapy has gotten a bad rap (Testosterone and the Cardiovascular System: A Comprehensive Review of the Clinical Literature and Age-Related Low Testosterone), and been blamed as a culprit for coronary artery disease and stroke risk, but as I discuss in my podcast with Jay Campbell, this is simply not true. As a matter of fact, in Jay's Testosterone Optimization Bible, he clearly lays out the research behind optimized testosterone levels improving heart health, optimizing cognitive function, combatting Alzheimer's disease, staving off bone loss, and much much more. My friend Carl Lenore also recently addressed some of this unfair testosterone vilification in Superhuman Radio episode #2451. Furthermore, as I explain in the introduction to this podcast, I recently began to use microdoses of testosterone cream (compounded by Dr. Craig Koniver) in the morning and evening to simulate the natural diurnal release of testosterone, and have noted a profound impact in my own energy levels and recovery (although this is not a strategy I endorse as a "bandaid" but instead the icing-on-the-cake for males in their late 30's and beyond once all other foundational practices I outline in this podcast are established). Incidentally, my wife is now using progesterone from Dr. Koniver for similar purposes. In this episode, I will review the key biomarkers for achieving peak male health, along with the most potent and effective practices for optimizing biological variables for men's fertility and longevity. I will also unveil a host of little-known biohacks proven to enhance or restore peak testosterone and libido, along with how to practically implement a blend of ancestral wisdom and modern science to amplify sexual performance. You'll discover a multimodal approach to optimizing male sexual performance, learn how to identify key biomarkers to assess male health and get the best ancient practices and modern scientific strategies that enhance or restore men's fertility and longevity. Oh, and by the way, women need testosterone too, and all these tactics will work for the ladies as well. In this episode, you'll learn... -Research I've encountered since I last spoke on this topic on the podcast...2:00 Microdosing testosterone cream (transdermal application) Simulates diurnal increase of testosterone (vs. a sudden increase via an injection) Overseen by a knowledgeable doc Morning and evening small amount of cream (not gel) Working w/ Dr. Craig Koniver My first podcast w/ Dr. Koniver Dr. Koniver's guest podcast on cortisol -Workout Strategies to Optimize Testosterone...12:43 Sprint Study: Physiological and performance changes from the addition of a sprint interval program to wrestling training Airdyne bike Elliptical trainer Lift heavy stuff Article: How Many Reps Should You Do To Build Muscle? The Fungus Among Us: Why Fungal Overgrowth & SIFO Are A Hidden Health Epidemic (& What You Can Do About It).

Most people understand the importance of a healthy gut microbiome for digestive health and overall wellbeing. But what about the mycobiome―the fungi that live inside our bodies? This podcast introduces this important component of the microbiome and explains how diet affects this population and how its balance or imbalance can cause you to feel―a poor balance of fungi can lead to weight gain, pain and bloating, and low energy, and can worsen symptoms for those with IBS or Crohn’s. Good news: Gut fungi respond quickly and dramatically to dietary and lifestyle changes. Within 24 hours, you can remake your mycobiome, supporting a path to weight loss, better digestion, and more energy. Alongside this accessible gut science, my guest, Dr. Mahmoud Ghannoum, author of the new book "Total Gut Balance: Fix Your Mycobiome Fast for Complete Digestive Wellness" outlines fast changes for fostering healthy fungi as well as 7- and 20-day diet plans, with more than 50 dietician-tested recipes, to cultivate a thriving mycobiome and methods for tweaking your lifestyle for long-term gut health. Dr. Ghannoum is a tenured professor and director of the Center for Medical Mycology at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Educated in Lebanon, England, and the United States, he received his PhD in Microbial Physiology from University of Technology in England and an Executive MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. He has spent his entire career studying medically important fungi and publish-ing extensively about their virulence factors, especially in microbial biofilms. Over the past decade, Dr. Ghannoum recognized the role of the microbial community (both bacterial and fungal) in human health and published the first study describing the oral fungal community, coining the term“mycobiome.”He described the bacterial microbiome (bacteriome) and the mycobiome in HIV-infected patients, and led the characterization of the interaction between bacteria and fungi as they relate to health and disease. In 2016, he published an opinion piece in The Scientist on the contribution of the myco-biome to human health and was consequently invited to speak at a number of meetings organized by the National Institutes of Health. He conducted a study characterizing the bacterial and fungal communities in Crohn’s disease patients that resulted in the first model of microbiome dysbiosis that implicated cooperation between bacteria and fungi in biofilms. This work resulted in a publication that received national and international coverage. Dr. Ghannoum is also a fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America and a past President of the Medical Mycological Society of the Americas (MMSA). He has received many distinguished awards for his research, and in 2013, he was selected as“MostInteresting Person” by Cleveland Magazine. In 2016, he received the Rohda Benham Award presented for his continuous out- standing and meritorious contributions to medical mycology from the Medical Mycological Society of the Americas and the Freedom to Discover Award from Bristol-Myers Squibb for his work on microbial biofilms. In 2017, he was inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. He continues to be a pioneer in the characterization of the human microbiome. With over 400 peer-reviewed publications to his credit and six published books on antifungal therapy, microbial biofilms, Candida adherence, and related topics, Dr. Ghannoum continues to be a prominent leader in his field. The National Institutes of Health has continually funded his research since 1994, and he recently received a large NIH grant to study the mechanism(s) of bacterial/fungal interaction in intestinal inflammation, such as in colitis and Crohn’s disease. He has also consulted for many international pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and co-founded multiple successful and profitable companies, including BIOHM Health, launched in 2016, that engineer products and services to address the critical role of the bacterial and fungal com-munities in digestive and overall health and wellness. BIOHM Health was just awarded the Science and Innovation Award by Nutrition Business Journal. He lives in Cleveland with his wife, children, and grandchildren. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The story behind Dr. Ghannoum coining the term "mycobiome"...7:40 Mycology is the study of fungi; mycobiome refers to the fungi in our gut and parts of our body Focusing just on bacteria leads to overgrowth of candida Showed through research that over 100 fungal species exist in a typical human mouth -Why the human body benefits from having fungus inside it...10:15 We need fungi in our gut; good fungi, even candida in low doses, helps the body Helps in breaking down, fermenting food Candida or fungi at colonizer level cleans the immune system Gut Report to test fungus levels in the body Other microbiome

The Pill - Everything You Need To Know About The Dangers Of The Pill, How To Get Off It Safely & Safer, More Natural Birth Control Alternatives.

My guest on today's show, Dr. Jolene Brighten, is a functional medicine naturopathic doctor and the founder of Rubus Health, a women's medicine clinic that specializes in women's hormones. She is recognized as a leading expert in post-birth control syndrome and the long-term side effects associated with hormonal contraceptives. Dr. Brighten is the best-selling author, speaker, and regular contributor to several online publications including MindBodyGreen. She is a medical advisor for one of the first data-driven apps to offer women personalized birth control recommendations. You might be familiar with her also as the author of Beyond the Pill: A 30-Day Program to Balance Your Hormones, Reclaim Your Body, and Reverse the Dangerous Side Effects of the Birth Control Pill. Out of the 100 million women (almost 11 million in the United States alone) who are on the pill, roughly 60 percent take it for non-contraceptive reasons like painful periods, endometriosis, PCOS, and acne. While the birth control pill is widely prescribed as a quick-fix solution to a variety of women’s health conditions, taking it can also result in other more serious and dangerous health consequences. Did you know that women on the pill are more likely to be prescribed an antidepressant? That they are at significantly increased risk for autoimmune disease, heart attack, thyroid and adrenal disorders, and even breast and cervical cancer? That the pill can even cause vaginal dryness, unexplained hair loss, flagging libido, extreme fatigue, and chronic infection. As if women didn’t have enough to worry about, that little pill we’re taking to manage our symptoms is only making things worse. Dr. Brighten specializes in treating women’s hormone imbalances caused by the pill and shares her proven 30-day program designed to reverse the myriad of symptoms women experience every day—whether you choose to stay on the pill or not. Featuring simple diet and lifestyle interventions, this podcast will be a crucial step to reversing the risky side effects of the pill, finally finding hormonal health, and getting your badass self back. During our discussion, you'll discover: -An overview of how the pill works...9:38 Dr. Brighten is a former user of the pill; didn't understand the ramifications until studying in natural medicine It works at your brain level How do the ovaries know when to ovulate? Cortisol Decoded: The Myths & Truths About A Hormone Crucial To Your Health & Survival.

Let's face it: cortisol gets a bad rap these days. "I have high cortisol", "I have low cortisol", "My cortisol it out-of-whack". You've no doubt heard this all before or said it yourself. So in an effort to decode cortisol once and for all, I decided to feature a wildly popular previous guest of mine - the guy who personally helps me and my wife manage our own hormones and has helped countless listeners of mine with their own anti-aging and natural hormone management protocols. His name is Dr. Craig Koniver. Craig was a guest on the episode "How To Get Your Own Vitamin and NAD IVs, The Truth About Umbilical Stem Cells, Peptide Injections & Much More With Dr. Craig Koniver." He has been practicing Performance Medicine for over 18 years and is the founder of Koniver Wellness in Charleston, South Carolina. Not satisfied with the disease-based model of modern medicine, Dr. Koniver seeks to help his clients optimize their health and performance through time-tested, nutrient and science-driven protocols that are the cutting-edge of medicine. He is the founder and creator of the patent-pending FastVitaminIV® as well as re-engineering the NAD+ IV protocols, now called Brain Refuel™. Dr. Koniver’s client list includes Navy SEALs, NFL players, PGA golfers, Hall of Fame NHL players, world-class professional athletes, Fortune 100 Executives, well-known celebrities and TV personalities. In addition, Dr. Koniver offers a comprehensive training program of the Koniver Wellness Model to physician practices across the country. The One Component Of Fitness Most People Neglect (Meditation, Plant Medicine, Yoga, Sex & More: How Ben Greenfield Trains For The Spiritual Disciplines).

As I age, observe great thinkers and philosophers, and continually seek wisdom, I've become increasingly convinced that caring for one's spirit is as important - no - more important than caring for one's body and brain. After all, long after our muscles have atrophied and skin has sagged, long after our brains have degraded and accumulated with plaque, long after our blood vessels and nerves have become clogged and weak and long after our relentless pursuit of fitness and longevity has become a vain effort, our spirits can be just as strong and bright as ever. Yet, sadly - especially among those immersed in physical culture, fitness and biohacking, it seems that the spirit is the most oft-ignored component of our human vessels, quite frequently shrunken and shriveled from a near complete neglect of the spiritual disciplines... ...disciplines such as meditation, gratitude, prayer, fasting, study, fellowship, celebration, charity and all those elements that most of us know are important but somehow shove to the side because, let's face it, life gets busy and it just seems far more practical and immediately useful to go hit the gym rather than sit cross-legged on the floor meditating breathing, spending an extra ten minutes in bed journaling, or prioritizing a family dinner. As I mention with increasing frequency the importance of the spiritual disciplines, I'm often ask how I personally incorporate these practices in my own life. So, similar to how last week I shared with you the nitty-gritty details of my own nutrition supplementation program, in this podcast I'm going to delve into how I weave everything from yoga to breathwork to plant medicine into my own life. I in no way profess to be an expert in these matters, and although it is my goal over the next ten years to become as spiritually fit as I am physically fit, and to focus perhaps even more on the spiritual disciplines than I currently do on the physical disciplines, I hope that a few of the insights I've incorporated into my own life these past several years may serve you well in your own pursuit of spiritual greatness. During this podcast, you'll discover: -Why value spiritual disciplines in the first place?...6:40 Focusing only on physical health and wellness can be quite shallow Spiritual exercise/discipline is just as real and vital as physical Caring for our spirit is just as important, if not more so, than our body and brain Attachment exercise from Awareness by Anthony Di Mello Think of something or someone to which you're attached Say, "I really do not need you to be happy; I can be happy without you" Happiness is a state of non-illusion -- the absence of an illusion -How Ben has educated himself on spiritual disciplines...13:00 Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth by Richard Foster Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald S. Quench: The Big "8 Glasses Of Day" Water Myth, Why Water Isn't The Best Way To Fully Hydrate & Much More!

Based on breakthrough new science in the field of hydration, the new book Quench: Beat Fatigue, Drop Weight, and Heal Your Body Through the New Science of Optimum Hydration debunks many popular myths about "getting enough water" and offers a revolutionary five-day jump start plan that shows how better hydration can reduce or eliminate ailments like chronic headaches, weight gain, gut pain, and even autoimmune conditions. Chronic headaches...brain fog...fatigue...weight gain...insomnia...gut pain...autoimmune conditions. We may think these and other all-too-common modern maladies are due to gluten intake or too much sugar or too little exercise. But there is another missing piece to the health puzzle: Proper hydration. Yes, even in this era of Poland Spring many of us are dehydrated due to moisture lacking diets, artificial environments, medications, and over-dependence on water as our only source of hydration. For this reason, that new diet or exercise plan may fail because our body doesn't have enough moisture to support it. Quench presents a wellness routine that can reverse all of that, based on breakthrough new science in the field of hydration. You will be surprised to learn that drinking too much water can flush out vital nutrients and electrolytes. Here is where "gel water" comes in: the water from plants (like cucumber, berries, aloe), which our bodies are designed to truly absorb right down to the cellular level. In fact, Ms. Bria's work as an anthropologist led her to the realization that desert people stay hydrated almost exclusively from what they eat, including gel plants like cactus. Based on groundbreaking science from the University of Washington's Pollack Water Lab and other research, Quench offers a five-day jump start plan: hydrating meal plans and the heart of the program, smoothies and elixirs using the most hydrating and nutrient-packed plants. Another unique feature of their approach is micro-movements-small, simple movements you can make a few times a day that will move water through your fascia, the connective tissue responsible for hydrating our bodies. You will experience more energy, focus, and better digestion within five days...then move onto the lifetime plan for continued improvements, even elimination of symptoms. My guest on today's podcast, and the author of Quench - Dr. Dana Cohen - has been successfully practicing medicine here in New York City for 20 years utilizing a distinctive medical approach. Dr. Cohen has helped thousands of patients find relief after repeated unsuccessful attempts with other practitioners. Dr. Cohen was board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1998. She is an advisor to the Board of Directors of the American College for the Advancement of Medicine (ACAM), the leading voice of Integrative Medicine for more than 1,500 MD, DO, ND, and master-level health-care providers. She has been the program director for their conferences and gathered the leaders of functional and integrative medicine to give world-class symposiums. She received her MD from St. George’s University School of Medicine, and completed a three year internal medicine residency at Albany Medical Center. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The background of Dana's book and why water isn't always the ideal way to hydrate...7:32 Searched for innovative topic on which to devote substantial research Co-author approached regarding hydration techniques "New phase" of water Is it possible to hydrate via food? The 8 glasses a day myth Comes from nowhere, similar to the food pyramid Some say they drink little water and remain hydrated -What is "gel" water, and how does it differ from "regular" water?...11:26 Also known as "structured" water Slightly thicker, different chemical equation (H3O2) Desert plants have gel inside (thickened water) Gel water is found in waterfalls, and in nature in general It's the type of water found in our cells -The best foods to eat which contain the gel water...14:41 Chia seeds gel when exposed to water Cucumber seeds are gelatinous Lettuce Cauliflower Fruits Fiber mixed w/ water becomes undrinkable when left; becomes gel water -How hydration (and dehydration) is measured via food intake...16:35 There's no research on determining clinical dehydration (although we know when someone is truly dehydrated) The means of determining hydration levels via water consumption have not been applied to food as of yet -How people who dwell in deserts hydrate...22:08 Bedouins "front load" water consumption (first thing in the morning w/ electrolytes) Robes they wear are quasi humidifying tents Drink camel's milk, goat's bread Low-fat diet is counterproductive Ghee is very high in gel water -Why chia is such a potent source of hydration...26:08 Rich source of Omega 3 fatty acids, particularly linoleic acid Grinding chia seeds; creates more gel water when add water to it Perfect thing to add to smoothies Lectins in chia seeds: proceed w/ caution Tara Fix reci

Supplements Update: What Supplements Does Ben Greenfield Take (& How To Time / Choose Your Personal Supplementation Protocol).

I am often asked what supplements I take, why I take them and if we really need supplements anyway. After all, if you, like me, follow a healthy lifestyle, I'll wager you probably eat plenty of plants, prioritize sleep, hydrate with filtered water (or, dare I say at the risk of revealing my tinfoil hat, structured water) and expose yourself to the sun as much as possible. So why even consider supplementation? Let's begin with this: our modern, post-industrial, polluted, toxin-laden lifestyle demands more nutrients than food can provide. That’s right. The chronic stressors of modern life—ranging from heavy metal and synthetic chemical exposure to sensory overload—have been proven to increase your body’s need for vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to shuttle toxins through detox pathways and prevent the formation of DNA-damaging free radical. This means that even if you are eating clean, relatively nutrient-dense food, you are likely not getting the full array of nutrients from food that prior generations enjoyed. There are five factors that contribute to poor nutrient availability in most modern food. Nutritionally Depleted Soil Due to modern farming techniques and fertilizers, most soil is depleted of the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants found in conventionally grown crops (4). You may think that eating organic is the ultimate solution. While some research suggests that organically grown food contains more nutrients than non-organic food, other research has concluded that there is no significant difference in nutritional content between the two (5, 6). In addition, for most of human history (and prehistory), our ancestors ate now-nearly-extinct, dense-cell-rich carbohydrates in the form of foods like wild tubers, which provided essential prebiotics so that probiotic bacteria could flourish (in contrast to the refined acellular grains and white rice that comprise modern carbohydrates) (7).In addition, the modern high intake of refined carbohydrates and processed foods creates significant blood sugar swings and glycemic variability that our ancestors did not encounter to as great an extent. A glance at a coffee shop display case or hotel breakfast bar that features bagels, muffins and sugary cereals explains why many people need a snack a couple hours after breakfast to make it through the inevitable mid-morning blood sugar crash. Blood sugar imbalances lead to chronic inflammation and may be responsible for up to 80% of modern diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease (8). This is a rollercoaster you definitely want to hop off. Similarly, the meat, eggs and dairy products commonly found in grocery stores deliver fewer anti-inflammatory nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, than those from wild or pastured animals (9). Most Western diet munchers also consume an imbalanced ratio of omega-6 fatty acids to omega-3 fatty acids, further exacerbating chronic inflammation (10, 11). Age-Related Declines In Nutrient Absorption Your ability to absorb nutrients from food decreases as you age (19). While growing children should absolutely be taking a multivitamin to support healthy tissue and bone formation, supplementation becomes equally important for older generations. Many medications used to treat age-related diseases, such as acid reflux and hypertension, also interfere with proper nutrient absorption, further increasing the need to take supplements (16, 17). Then there are precious fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin D. While the recommendations for sufficient vitamin D levels are controversial, it is safe to say that many Americans, especially aging Americans who spend more and more time indoors, do not get enough vitamin D (18). Even if we do our best to get sun exposure - whether it’s a morning walk or going outside for lunch - it is rare to get as much sunlight and vitamin D as our outdoor-dwelling ancestors did. Poor Food Handling Practices Modern harvesting, shipping, processing and storage techniques degrade the nutrient content of food (12). Plants grown with modern fertilizer can contain only 25% of the micronutrients of plants grown using more traditional farming methods, and nutrient content declines as they are shipped and sit on store shelves. It makes sense that a fresh-picked apple is more nutritious than the apples you buy at the supermarket in winter, which were likely treated with 1-methylcyclopropene and could be up to 10 months old (according to an FDA spokesperson) (13, 14). And the preservatives used to maintain freshness could impede the bioavailability of the food’s nutrients and even increase your body’s need for more nutrients to process these synthetic additives (15). Pesticides, Herbicides & Pollutants Pesticides, herbicides and chemicals found in the modern food supply are combined with low-quality water, environmental contaminants from elements like degraded plastic and airborne pollutants like carbon monoxide, lead and mercury. These synergistic factors vastly increase your need f

We All Have Cancer (& How To Starve Cancer With The Foods You Eat).

Recently, my friend J.J. Virgin turned me onto Dr. William Li and his book “Eat to Beat Disease: The New Science of How Your Body Can Heal Itself” – a really great book that delves into the research-based healing powers of a variety of foods. Over two decades, Dr. Li’s leadership in the field of angiogenesis and its clinical translation has brought to the world 30 paradigm-shifting treatments for cancer, vision loss, and wound healing. His vision, expertise, and global multidisciplinary networks are focused on conquering disease, and improving quality of life and the human condition through diet, lifestyle, and judicious use of medicines that optimize health throughout aging. Dr. Li’s work engages the White House, the Clinton Global Initiative, National Institutes of Health, Fortune 500 companies, and leading universities and medical institutions across North and South America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. Dr. Li’s work has impacted more than 50 million people worldwide, and he is a TED Conference speaker. In 2010, U2 lead singer Bono identified Dr. Li in The New York Times as “one of the top 10 with the potential for changing the world in the next 10 years.” Dr. Li received his undergraduate degree with honors from Harvard College, his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and his clinical training in Internal Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed scientific and clinical articles, book chapters, and abstracts, including publications in leading journals such as Science, Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, and Nature Reviews. Dr. Li has held faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School, Tufts University, and Dartmouth Medical School. He serves on the board of directors of the Angiogenesis Foundation, the American College of Wound Healing and Tissue Repair, and Wound Reach Foundation, as well as public and private companies focused on health and life sciences innovation. A few of my big takeaways from his book included: – Regarding stem cells: Some foods like dark chocolate, black tea, and beer can mobilize them and help us regenerate. Other foods, like purple potatoes, can kill deadly stem cells that spark cancer growth. – We all have cancer growing in our body. Every single one of us, even you. Over time, however, some tiny nests of cancer can overwhelm the defense system and overcome antiangiogenic countermeasures by releasing huge amounts of the same growth factor signals involved in wound healing. In lab experiments, once new blood vessels sprout into the small cluster of cancer cells, a tumor can grow exponentially, expanding up to sixteen thousand times in size in only two weeks after angiogenesis starts. – Even as little as thirty minutes of exposure to tobacco smoke exhaled by someone else is enough to stun your stem cells. – Not surprisingly, air pollution is similarly damaging. Researchers have found that in people living in communities with major air pollution problems, exposure to fine particulate matter during pollution flares lowers the number of endothelial progenitor cells in their blood. – Among the Malmo participants, researchers found that those with the highest levels of stem cell factor had a lower risk of heart failure by 50 percent, a lower risk of stroke by 34 percent, and a lower risk of death from any cause by 32 percent compared to those participants with the lowest levels of stem cell factor. – During the cholera epidemic of 1892 in France, Metchnikoff mixed bacteria together in a petri dish and found that some bacteria could stimulate cholera growth, but to his surprise found that other bacteria hindered it. This led him to speculate whether swallowing some types of helpful bacteria might be useful for preventing deadly diseases. He was also struck by the fact that some people lived to a ripe old age despite harsh rural conditions and poor hygiene associated with poverty. In Bulgaria, he noted, there were peasants in the Caucasus Mountains who lived beyond one hundred years. He observed that the oldest villagers were drinking fermented yogurt containing the bacteria Lactobacillus bulgaricus. Metchnikoff suggested that one secret to longevity is consuming healthy bacteria. – A study of 1,095 “ridiculously healthy people” who have no health issues or family history of serious disease across all age groups (from age three to more than one hundred years old) showed that a common denominator in both young and old is an almost identical microbiome. – The scientists concluded that some healthy bacteria are resilient and can bounce back from a dietary insult, while others cannot. They called the persistent defect a “scar” left on the microbiome due to diet. Here’s where it gets interesting in this study. The microbiome scar became larger over generations when the researchers began breeding the mice and exposing each generation of mice to the high-fat, low-

The Hormone-Boosting Minimalist Exercise Machine That Burns A Staggering Amount Of Calories In Just 21 Minutes.

My guest on today's show is Sebastian Wasowski, who is the Co-Founder of Vasper Systems. I first interviewed Sebastian's father, and inventor of the Vasper, in the show "How To Get 2 Hours Of Exercise In Just 20 Minutes.", but plenty has happened since then... ...particularly the fact that I've been using the Vasper every morning for the past 3 months to experiment with just how good it actually is at building and maintaining fitness with a minimalist dose of exercise. So what exactly is this thing? Vasper is a complete exercise system based on three scientifically proven principles: compression technology, cooling and interval training. By combining all of these principles, the results are extraordinary. In 21-minutes, the Vasper enables you to get a complete workout. Utilizing compression, cooling, and interval training, the you are able to concentrate lactic acid and enhance growth hormone production. The “cooldown” session, which involves laying on a cooling mat, enables you to workout again later in the day (should you like) or head straight into the office. Vasper has a wide-range of use cases and users. The machine is used by medical professionals, people recovering from cardiac incidents, athletic teams, and the Special Forces. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The story of the Vasper machine...8:45 Sebastian's father invented it to address his own health needs; post-traumatic stress in the ankles Discovered research on blood flow restriction, intermittent cold exposure, interval training Prototype was popular among locals on Big Island of Hawaii Company formed in 2009; successful trial with San Jose Sharks hockey team -The efficacy of the Vasper for performance implications...12:20 Designed to stimulate body's production of anabolic hormones in lesser threshold of a normal workout Mimics physiology of much more intense workout In a controlled study, participants using the Vasper far outperformed counterparts not using it Far better for overall health than exogenously induced compounds such as steroids Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) -About the components of the machine...18:30 Compression cuffs around the wrist How blood flow restriction occurs Pressure filled up via cold water rather than air in a blood pressure monitor Similar to Kaatsu devices The seat and foot pads are also cooled; enables user to be more powerful throughout the workout Positive metabolic response to the cold exposure Cooling mat is used post-workout to reset heart and respiratory rate to baseline Bare feet touch metal pads which are cooled by same cold water; lowers overall body temp You're able to ground with the earth via the machine; it's plugged in with a 3-prong plug -About the exercise regimens programmed into the Vasper...35:15 30 are programmed into the machine They are customizable for each individual user New protocols added are accessed via software update -Why each session on the Vasper is 21 minutes in length...36:40 21 minutes is optimal time to initiate max response from the endocrine system, without stimulating cortisol (stress response) Not recommended to go longer than 21 minutes, nor to do multiple sessions per day -Whether the Vasper can be used in conjunction with strength training...40:10 Can be used as a recovery tool on an off day Ben reports amazing results for active recovery after traveling, or working out the day prior -The optimal time of day to use the Vasper...41:45 The earlier the better for sleep quality Some report an increase in energy following the workout, harder time falling asleep -People you may have heard of who use Vasper machines...43:15 Tony Robbins Prince of Dubai San Jose Sharks San Francisco 49ers Miami Dolphins Major League baseball team reported huge increases in testosterone levels after use -Where to use a Vasper if you can't afford one for your own home...44:20 Vasper locations -Use of other technology in conjunction with the Vasper...47:30 LIVO2 mask Most users report a greater synergy with strength training when using the machine -Research involving stem cells, TBI, and more with the Vasper...48:40 Research page on Vasper's website Andrews Institute study found that a single session, HSC stem cells increased in the blood Dr. Robert Cantu reported TBI patients are able to exercise without aggravating symptoms -And much more... Ben Greenfield Interviews Dr. David Sinclair About Lifespan: Why We Age―and Why We Don't Have To.

My guest on today's podcast - Dr. David Sinclair, an acclaimed Harvard Medical School scientist and named as one of Time’s most influential people - just wrote a paradigm-shifting book. It’s a seemingly undeniable truth that aging is inevitable. But what if everything we’ve been taught to believe about aging is wrong? What if we could choose our lifespan? In this groundbreaking new book Lifespan: Why We Age―and Why We Don't Have To, Dr. Sinclair, leading world authority on genetics and longevity, reveals a bold new theory for why we age. As he writes: “Aging is a disease, and that disease is treatable.” This eye-opening and provocative work takes us to the frontlines of research that is pushing the boundaries on our perceived scientific limitations, revealing incredible breakthroughs—many from Dr. David Sinclair’s own lab at Harvard—that demonstrate how we can slow down, or even reverse, aging. The key is activating newly discovered vitality genes, the descendants of an ancient genetic survival circuit that is both the cause of aging and the key to reversing it. Recent experiments in genetic reprogramming suggest that in the near future we may not just be able to feel younger, but actually become younger. Through a page-turning narrative, Dr. Sinclair invites you into the process of scientific discovery and reveals the emerging technologies and simple lifestyle changes—such as intermittent fasting, cold exposure, exercising with the right intensity, and eating less meat—that have been shown to help us live younger and healthier for longer. At once a roadmap for taking charge of our own health destiny and a bold new vision for the future of humankind, Lifespan will forever change the way we think about why we age and what we can do about it. During our discussion in which we take a deep dive into "Lifespan", you'll discover: -What does a typical day look like for a scientist at Harvard?...5:45 -Dr. Sinclair's method of speeding up the aging process in mice...8:30 -Cellular Reprogramming 101...14:30-A device that determines a human genome via a USB connection...23:15 -Whether you can predict your lifespan with your current DNA data from 23andMe...25:15 -The correlation between protein consumption and longevity...29:30 -The importance of a proper methionine and glycine balance...38:00 -The effects of NMN on fertility...49:15 -Uncoupling proteins, and whether DMP supplements are a good idea...53:10 -Resveratrol, stressed wine and fruit, and longevity...58:00 -Cancer breakthroughs in which Dr. Sinclair is currently interested...1:03:15 -David's personal protocol...1:10:30 -And much more... Deuterium Demystified: Everything You Need To Know About Deuterium Depleted Water (DDW), How To Lower Deuterium & Much More!

The good folks from The Center For Deuterium Depletion in Los Angeles, where I traveled to record this podcast episode. The Center for Deuterium Depletion's mission is to promote deuterium depletion research and therapies to prevent or ameliorate disease, maximize quality of life and/or improve personal performance. Deuterium is a naturally occurring element. You acquire deuterium through the food you eat, the liquids you drink and the air you breathe. Your body's ability to deplete deuterium decreases with weight gain, age, illness and lack of quality sleep. Deuterium is a rare type of hydrogen – only 155 out of every million hydrogens are deuterium. Its nucleus contains a proton and a neutron, which makes it twice the mass (weight/size) of regular hydrogen. My guests on this show believe deuterium in tissue should not exceed 130 ppm (parts per million) and they base this value on the deuterium levels found in a broad number of plants, animals that are grass fed and the food products of grass fed animals - butter, milk, tallow, etc. Unfortunately, many people are now saturated with deuterium and this affecting their mental and physical performance. On today's show, you'll learn exactly why that is, and what you can do about it. My guests on this show are Dr. Anne Cooper and Dr. Que Collins. A native of Australia, Dr. Anne Cooper, D.C., LAc. earned her Doctorate in Chiropractic from Cleveland Chiropractic College (Los Angeles), graduating with Honors in 1997, while on the Dean’s list and winning the Charles Gibson award for clinical excellence. Her growing commitment to total health and innovative healing therapies led her to continue on with over 20 years post-doctoral experience in Functional Medicine and a Masters degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, graduating with highest honors in 2011. Early in her career, as a celebrity aesthetician, working with great beauties such as Ava Gabor, she realized that where there is beauty, there MUST be health and that health must be established on a very deep cellular level. Anne's credentials: Master’s in Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine (Highest Honors) Doctorate of Chiropractic (Honors) Charles Gibson Clinic Entrance Award Licensed Aesthetician Certifications: Clinical Nutrition, Applied Kinesiology, Functional Medicine, Energetic Medicine, Herbal Medicine Dr. Cooper manages Cignature Health's patients and guides their day-to-day therapy. She also is our healthcare professional liaison and helps them implement our protocols and services into their practices. Her expertise as both an experienced natural and functional medicine practitioner helps bridge any communication gap between our principal and chief scientists training in allopathic medicine and the training received by chiropractors, naturopaths, acupuncturists, herbalists, nutritionists, etc. Dr. Que Collins is a leading scientist when it comes to developing and applying nutrition and metabolic therapies to treat cancer in people and pets. Ph.D., Clinical Immunology M.S., Oncotherapeutics M.A., Experimental Pathology B.S., Poverty Health Care and Cancer Epidemiology He is Co-Founder and Principal Investigator at Cignature Health Metabolic Clinic – the first clinic in the world to use deuterium and tracer technologies to describe and follow the health status of patients with metabolic disorders such as cancer, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders. Principal Investigator, Epigenix Foundation – this not-for-profit organization created by the founders of Quest Nutrition promotes research to prevent and ameliorate disease, maximize quality of life and/or improve personal performance. He is also Co-Founder and Principal Investigator of Ketopet Sanctuary – a 53-acre ranch outside Austin, Texas that uses the ketogenic diet and other metabolic therapies with and without standard of care to treat dogs with naturally occurring cancers. During our discussion, you'll discover: -What exactly is deuterium anyway?...7:30 A form of hydrogen Deuterium has an extra which makes it twice as big and twice as heavy Deleterious effects on our mitochondria when present in water Produces ATP; depending on hydrogen ions Deuterium "gums up the machine" due to its size Hydrogen atoms are replaced by deuterium when deuterium is present We actually make deuterium depleted metabolic water inside our mitochondria -Deleterious effects of deuterium on the mitochondria and cells...10:30 Clinical tests showing its effects on the mitochondria/metabolism are fairly recent Deuterium stops up the electrode transport chain; results in excessive energy within the cells Affects cell integrity Changes electromotive constant of cells Bottom line: Hydrogen holds us together; the size and density of deuterium changes the whole structure inside our cells -Why present levels of deuterium in the modernized environment are problematic...14:15 While deuterium is a natural and essential element, its presence has increased in the moder

The Problem With Multivitamins, Can Wheat Weaken Your Bones, How Vegans Can Get More Omega 3's & Much More With Mira & Jayson Calton Of The "Rebuild Your Bones" Protocol.

But since then, plenty has happened, especially based on Mira's advanced osteoporosis diagnosis that she went through when she was 30. Mira and Jayson decided to write a book on this (more details here: 7 Ways To Stop Bone Loss In Its Tracks & Build Unbreakable Bone Density). An osteoporosis diagnosis can feel like a debilitating life sentence—one that leaves you feeling stuck with a future of prescription drugs that only might keep the condition from worsening. Mira Calton, CN and Jayson Calton, PhD have discovered a better way to prevent and even reverse the disease through the power of micronutrient therapy. The secret to building strong bones lies in the right combination of micronutrients— the vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, and amino acids in the foods we eat and supplements we take. In their new book Rebuild Your Bones, the Caltons reveal how our dietary, lifestyle, and even supplementation routines may be depleting these essential micronutrients, and share the 40 healing habits scientifically proven to build stronger bones. They also provide an easy-to-follow plan to reverse these effects, including recipes and meal plans, exercise advice, and supplement recommendations. If you’re looking for a pharmaceutical-free way to restore your bone health, look no further—this is the definitive guide to safely and naturally stave off osteoporosis and reclaim your health. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Mira's bout with osteoporosis led her to Jayson and their current body of work...6:30 Diagnosed w/ advanced osteoporosis at age 30; had bone density of an 80 year old person Working from couch, delegating tasks to staff Met Jayson; had reversed osteoporosis within 2 years 40 "healing habits", all clinically proven in their own right, involving diet, lifestyle and supplementation -The ineffectiveness and sometimes counterproductive nature of current osteoporosis treatments...9:30 Osteoporosis and osteopenia are viewed as "irreversible" diseases They are lifestyle diseases Bisphosphonates: drugs used to treat bone density issues 10 year window max for being on these drugs Many are 18-24 months (black box restriction) Many have not even been tested on animals, yet are prescribed to humans Implications include: cancer, punishing effects on the body Quantity over quality: denser bones, but of poor quality; ineffective in preventing fractures They deplete calcium, CoQ10, Vitamin C levels Unintended negative consequences of RANK-Ligand inhibitors (RANK-L): Work similarly to how Omega 3 work in the body (reverse-engineered) They bind to receptors in the immune system Cause low levels of magnesium -The interplay between wheat and bone density...21:40 Wheat contains oxalic acid, phytic acid, Contains lectins and trypsin inhibitors Gluten contributes to leaky gut Amylopectin A: Causes the body to over-secrete lectin (lets us know when we're full) Inhibits bone density as a result -Ancestral approaches to preparing food to increase bone density...25:00 Soak, sprout, ferment are good approaches Lectins are difficult to eradicate Steer clear of wheat and lectins while rebuilding your bones; occasional consumption Slowly reintroduce them, using aforementioned methods (soak, sprout, ferment) -Effects of coffee on bone density...27:45 Caffeine has been shown to deplete micronutrients such as calcium and iron (but can be offset w/ dairy) Copious amounts must be consumed in order to have any negative effects The benefits outweigh the negatives Antioxidants are a plus Turns off body's ability to produce osteoblasts, which creates osteocalcin Organic coffee is recommended -How an acidic or alkaline diet affects bone density...32:15 The notion that acid will "leak" calcium from your bones is a myth Antacids create more stomach acid Beware of info you find on the Internet Acid based foods help the body absorb more calcium Bone is 50% protein-body volume; you need protein to rebuild bones -The importance of Omega 3&6 and Omega fatty acids pertaining to bone health...40:15 Omega 6 is essential fat; causes inflammation in the body (which isn't a bad thing) Omega 3 is anti-inflammatory "It's what our ancestors would have eaten in their diet. However..." Omega 6 and 3 do not offset each other; they're competing to absorb in the body First step to reducing inflammation: drive down Omega 6 to 4:1 ratio to Omega 3 Many foods we regard as "healthy" are disproportionate in Omega 6 content First step: cut down on Omega 6 consumption EPA and DHA compete for absorption similar to Omega 3/6 Ideal time to take calcium: right before exercise -Things to consider when taking a multi-vitamin (MV) pertaining to bone health...51:30 93% of Americans are deficient in at least one micronutrient Most conditions are "long-latency condition" diseases Focus on diet and lifestyle before supplementation; but you can't fulfill micronutrient needs through diet alone MV is a "shotgun" approach to supplementation MV's are not effective because

To Hell & Back With Autoimmune Disease: How To Heal Autoimmunity With Diet, Relationships, Lifestyle & More.

Ryan Lee (my guest on this podcast) and I go way back. The man is probably responsible for initiating and teaching me just about everything I know in the realm of online marketing and success in the fitness industry. Over a decade ago, I began to delve into his teachings and websites, and it was through him that I learned how to create information products, e-books, virtual coaching and a host of other profit-generating and information-scaling tools I still utilize to this day. Ryan himself is an exercise physiologist and the founder of Rewind bars. He’s also the author of The Millionaire Workout, Passion to Profits, was featured on the front page of The Wall Street Journal, and called “the world’s #1 lifestyle entrepreneur” by Entrepreneur. How To Figure Out What To Eat Based On What Your Ancestors Ate & How To Heal Your Immune System Using An Ancestral Diet Approach.

Today's podcast is a two-part special on ancestral eating, an ancestral diet and healing autoimmune conditions using an ancestral approach. In the first part of the show, I teach you how to determine how you should be eating based on how your ancestors ate. Next, I turn it over to my guest Dr. Michael Smith for a special lecture from him on his specific protocol for healing autoimmune conditions using an ancestral eating approach. Dr. Smith, who first appeared on my show in the episode "Cupping, Urine Drinking, Dream Interpretation, Open Heart Surgery Using Acupuncture As Anesthesia & Much More." hails from the First Nations in Canada, grew up on the diet of his indigenous ancestors eating wild organ meats from the animals he hunted and feasting from the wild salmon that he caught. He learned many of the medicine traditions and the “Medicine Wheel” of the First Nations people. He studied Martial Arts and taught Canadian Military self defense techniques, and along the way, his Martial Arts teacher took him aside to say to tell him that he was “more of a healer than a fighter”. His teacher then began to teach him the Oral Tradition of Classical Oriental Science, or better known as Traditional Chinese Medicine. Michael is now a huge pillar in the healing community of Nelson, BC. For example, restaurants in the Nelson area will produce a special menu at certain times of year when he holds the event of cleansing season. He's helped with bringing Medical Cannabis dispensaries to the city and produces supplements paired with Cannabis Medicine sold there. You often see him ushering in folks at open public sweat lodge ceremonies with burning of sage. Michael is an author, speaker, professional martial artist, teacher and clinician, and a respected integrative medicine pioneer with over 20 years experience. In his Nelson, British Columbia practice he combines functional medicine and evolutionary nutrition with the ancient wisdom and vast experience of Traditional Chinese medicine. His primary focus in medicine is complex chronic auto-immune diseases (as a patient, Michael had lived with both Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis for well over 20 years). He is a co-founder of the prestigious Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences, the first five year full time doctorate level training program in TCM in Canada. He is also the primary developer of Neuro-Somatic Therapy, a hands on approach to reducing the way people embody distress, illness and trauma. As a Martial Artist, Michael has been training for almost 40 years. He has had the good fortune to train with some of the highest level teachers in the Western world, including a teacher of the late Bruce Lee. After training prison guards, police officers and members of both military and paramilitary organizations, Michael decided to leave traditional martial arts and develop his own approach to resolving physical violence. He has taught this approach, called Applied Combatives, for over 20 years. It was my understanding that sirtuin-activating compounds actually come from natural plant mechanisms that you might be avoiding in the Plant Paradox diet. Why the War on Cancer Has Failed & What You Can Do About It: Mistletoe, NAD, Deuterium Depleted Water, Melatonin, Gerson Therapy & Beyond!

Dr. Thomas Cowan's new book Cancer & The New Biology Of Water is a groundbreaking look at the role of water in living organisms that ultimately brings us closer to answering the riddle of the etiology of, and therapy and treatment for, cancer. When President Nixon launched the War on Cancer with the signing of the National Cancer Act of 1971 and the allocation of billions of research dollars, it was amidst a flurry of promises that a cure was within reach. The research establishment was trumpeting the discovery of oncogenes, the genes that supposedly cause cancer. As soon as we identified them and treated cancer patients accordingly, cancer would become a thing of the past. Fifty years later it’s clear that the War on Cancer has failed―despite what the cancer industry wants us to believe. New diagnoses have continued to climb; one in three people in the United States can now expect to battle cancer during their lifetime. For the majority of common cancers, the search for oncogenes has not changed the treatment: We’re still treating with the same old triad of removing (surgery), burning out (radiation), or poisoning (chemotherapy). In Cancer & The New Biology Of Water, Dr. Cowan argues that this failure was inevitable because the oncogene theory is incorrect―or at least incomplete―and based on a flawed concept of biology in which DNA controls our cellular function and therefore our health. Instead, Dr. Cowan tells us, the somatic mutations seen in cancer cells are the result of a cellular deterioration that has little to do with oncogenes, DNA, or even the nucleus. The root cause is metabolic dysfunction that deteriorates the structured water that forms the basis of cytoplasmic―and therefore, cellular―health. Despite mainstream medicine’s failure to bring an end to suffering or deliver on its promises, it remains illegal for physicians to prescribe anything other than the “standard of care” for their cancer patients―no matter how dangerous and ineffective that standard may be―and despite the fact that gentler, more effective, and more promising treatments exist. While Dr. Cowan acknowledges that all of these treatments need more research, Cancer and the New Biology of Water is an impassioned plea from a long-time physician that these promising treatments merit our attention and research dollars and that patients have the right to information, options, and medical freedom in matters of their own life and death. Dr. Cowan, MD, is a veteran family physician who has studied and written about many subjects in medicine, including nutrition, homeopathy, anthroposophical medicine, and herbal medicine. He is the author of Human Heart, Cosmic Heart: A Doctor’s Quest to Understand, Treat, and Prevent Cardiovascular Disease and the new book Vaccines, Autoimmunity, and the Changing Nature of Childhood Illness from Chelsea Green Publishing. He is also a founding board member of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and a frequent lecturer throughout the US and Canada. He's also the same doctor I mentioned in this Joe Rogan episode when I talked about how your “heart is not a pump”. He also produces some of the most fantastic vegetable powders in existence, which I use every day: Dr. Thomas Cowan's vegetable powders. My previous episodes with Dr. Cowan include: - Why Your Heart Is Not A Pump (& What Most Doctors Don’t Know About The True Cause Of Heart Disease). - How (& Why) To Eat More Vegetables, Why A Plant Is Like An Upside-Down Human, Little-Known Superfood Plants & More! - The Shocking Story Of Vaccines, The Toxicity Of Ultrasounds, Why You Shouldn’t Play With Your Child & Much More With Dr. Thomas Cowan He also published the fascinating article on my website entitled: - The Insulin Of The Heart: A Little-Known Seed Extract That May Be The Future Panacea For Heart Disease. Dr. Cowan's other excellent books include: Vaccines, Autoimmunity, and the Changing Nature of Childhood Illness Human Heart, Cosmic Heart: A Doctor’s Quest to Understand, Treat, and Prevent Cardiovascular Disease. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Whether or not the efficacy of chemotherapy has ever been studied [7:45] President Nixon announced "War on Cancer" in 1971; promised it would be gone within 10 years Early 1990's, German statistician Ulrich Abel announces 2.9% of stage 3&4 cancer patients see improvement with chemo Early 2000's, Australian government commissions a study for all stages; Concluded that 2.3-2.4% show improvement Decreased quality of life; marginally longer life expectancy in chemo patients -Why a reduction in tumor size isn't always a good thing [12:00] Any study not involving life expectancy is called a "surrogate study" Reduction in size can result in a compromised immune system which perpetuates the need for chemo -Dr. Cowan's thoughts on the current theories upon which modern cancer treatments are based [15:30] "Oncogene" or "somatic mutation" theory came to light in 1971 Mutation in a somatic chromosome, which drives

A New Style Of Meditation That Helps You To Stress Less & Accomplish More - The Emily Fletcher Podcast.

Meditation For Mind-Blowing Sex, Meditation For Insomnia, Meditation For Energy & Much More. My guest on today's podcast has cracked the code on what kind of meditation works for all these goals, and for many more. Her name is Emily Fletcher, and Emily is the founder of Ziva Meditation (use code BEN to save $50) and the creator of zivaONLINE, the world’s first online meditation training. Her mission is to make meditation attractive and accessible to people who are ready to up-level their performance and their lives. Recently featured in The New York Times, named top 100 women in wellness to watch and regarded as one of the leading experts in Vedic meditation, Emily has been invited by companies like Google, Barclays Bank, sweetgreen, & Viacom to help improve company performance through meditation. She began her ten years of training in Rishikesh, India and was inspired to teach after experiencing the profound physical and mental benefits meditation provided her during her 10-year career on Broadway, which included roles in Chicago, The Producers & A Chorus Line. Emily has been invited to speak at Harvard Business School, Bulletproof Biohacking Conference, Summit Series, A-Fest and The Omega Center. So far, she has taught over 5,100 people to become self-sufficient meditators with this game changing practice to take with them for life. Stress Less, Accomplish More: Meditation for Extraordinary Performance is a new book by Emily. For the book, she specifically developed a novel meditation technique for working people with busy lives. Now, you can learn to recharge anywhere, anytime – at home or at your desk. All you need is a few minutes and a chair (no apps, incense, or finger cymbals required). But this is not just another meditation book. In it, Emily teaches a cool trifecta of Mindfulness, Meditation, and Manifesting to improve your personal and professional performance, clarity, health, and sleep. You learn how to cultivate Mindfulness through brief but powerful exercises that will help you stop wasting time stressing. Plus, you’ll get Manifesting tools to help you get crystal clear on your personal and professional goals for the future. I'm digging it (and I'm usually NOT a fan of woo-woo meditation books). Get it here. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How the Meditation Shame Spiral undermines efforts at meditation [7:25] Activity: "My brain is too crazy; my stress is special" Time: "I want to meditate, but I just don't have time" Broken promises to self; personal integrity No one has time to waste (return on investment) Stress is responsible for 90% of all doctor's visits Autonomic nervous system dysfunction is related to most disease You're not spending time; you're investing time meditating -Why meditation doesn't replace the importance of quality sleep [13:50] Chemical reactions in the brain to sleep and meditation are very different Nature doesn't allow the human body to be in deep relaxation physically and mentally at the same time Meditation is more relaxing, but is a different type of rest than sleep Curing insomnia is the #1 benefit that people report after starting meditation -Adaptation energy [16:30] Stressors vs. Demands affect your ability to adapt to circumstances When depleted of adaptation energy, you break (straw that breaks the camel's back) We act and react according to the baseline stress levels in our nervous system Meditation doesn't change or remove the stressors; it replenishes our adaptation energy Indicative of higher interplay between sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems People are attracted to people who know how to to adapt (higher HRV) Chronic, staying stress is the killer -Whether or not committing to a meditation regimen creates more stress [22:45] If you become self-sufficient with meditation, you'll have more time in your day, and you'll lose dependency on toys, gadgets, etc. Your body will be functioning as it was designed to function -How the anatomical structure of the brain can change with meditation [26:00] Corpus callosum connects the left and right hemispheres of the brain It's proven that meditation thickens the corpus callosum (strengthens the connection) Great way to come up with the witty comeback when it really matters Nootropics has a similar effect -The effect of meditation on our neurons [31:30] -The effects on telomere length [34:35] Book: The Telomere Effect Telomere is like the plastic casing on the end of a shoelace; chronic stress weakens the telomere and impacts the body age BGF podcast w/ Dr. Bill Andrews -The nitty gritty of how Ziva meditation works [37:30] Three "M's": Mindfulness, meditating, manifesting Mindfulness: The art of bringing your awareness into the present moment (not synonymous with meditation) Meditation: alleviates stress from today as well as from the past Manifesting: Your thoughts become things It is inspired by Nishkam karma yoga Nishkam: "hardly taken" Karma: "action" Yoga: "union" "A union attained by a
