Driven: Understanding and Harnessing the Genetic Gifts Shared by Entrepreneurs, Navy SEALs, Pro Athletes (& Maybe You).

bengreenfieldfitness.com/drivenbydoug I first met today's podcast guest at a private conference where he was teaching long range rifle shooting combined with meditation? Sound a bit weird and intriguing? I thought so. It turns out that my guest on today's show - Dr. Doug Brackman - has studied and worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs, pro-athletes, inventors, adventurers, and Navy SEALs and found that certain people are born with a drive often seen in these types of people. It's in their DNA - research has shown that certain genes can manifest resilient and highly focused people who can also be impulsive and easily distracted. While these traits enabled our ancient ancestors to survive, if you have these traits today, it can create havoc in your life. You may be diagnosed with ADHD, ADD, or OCD. But what the world tells you is a disability or disorder may actually be your greatest gift. Using his experience teaching the highly driven how to master their gift, Doug provides the insight and tools you need to master yours. He teaches you how to: - Stop self-sabotage forever - End shame and doubt - Find your wolf pack - Use meditation to put yourself on the right path I just finished his new book Driven: Understanding and Harnessing the Genetic Gifts Shared by Entrepreneurs, Navy SEALs, Pro Athletes (& Maybe You) and was absolutely glued to the pages, so I just had to have Doug on the show. After achieving a dual PhD in 2002, Dr. Doug struck out to research the components of powerful thought and action, culminating in a very successful practice of helping driven “hunters” focus their gifts on a daily basis. Dr. Doug has used and integrated approach of meditation, bio-hacking, and applied real world counseling to help thousands of people. He has been naturally drawn to the driven (often ADD/ADHD spectrum) business owner/entrepreneur, and for the last 10 years has worked exclusively with these amazing clients. Dr. Doug is a twenty plus year meditation practitioner and continuous student of the rapid advances in science explaining the benefits of specific types of meditation. He describes himself as a functional MRI geek and student of all spiritual practices and religions. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Doug went from a dual PhD to teaching meditation while shooting rifles...6:50 -What it means to be "Driven"...10:45 -How to determine if you're genetically predetermined to be Driven...20:00 -A poly peptide that relates to Driven people...25:05 -How the brain of a Driven person is used differently than that of others... -Why there's "never enough" for Driven people... -Practical solutions for Driven people to function in society... -The only thing that will truly help a Driven person... -The type of meditation best-suited for Driven people... -The breath work Doug teaches to Driven people... -Plant medicine protocols that may be useful for Driven people... -How to learn more about Doug's work...See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A Rocket Scientist Homeschooler's Insider Blood Glucose Monitoring Secrets, The Best Way To Use A Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM), Blood Sugar Biohacking Tips & Much More!

bengreenfieldfitness.com/levels As I've mentioned many times before on podcasts, I've been using something called a "Continuous Glucose Monitor" (CGM) at various intervals throughout my life for about 4 years or so. Considering that, as I write about here, I consider glycemic variability (which is exactly what these CGM's track) and inflammation (which is a bit more difficult to measure as it typically requires a visit to a lab) to be my top two key biomarkers for health and longevity, my use of a CGM has given me some very valuable data on how my body responds to certain foods, supplements, exercises, lifestyle practices, and even emotions. But how does a CGM work, exactly? What does the really tiny "filamentous" needle actually measure? How do you get yours to "stick" for long periods of time, or in water? How does the phone gather data from the sensor, and is EMF a concern? Does the sensor have to be calibrated to a blood glucose reading due to the fact it is recording interstitial fluid vs. blood? Is this type of thing, from an insurance standpoint, that is only available to diabetics? What do you do about activities that cause high glucose excursions, such as exercise/sauna/coffee etc., which wind up decreasing the metabolic score when, long-term, those are all glucose stabilizing/insulin sensitizing activities? Are there certain supplements or herbs that do the best job controlling blood glucose? I explore these questions and many others in this podcast with Josh Clemente. Josh is a rocket scientist and worked at SpaceX for 6 years, managing the team that designed the life support systems in their space shuttles. Overtime, he started to notice extreme levels of fatigue and experienced volatile spikes and crashes of energy throughout his day. For someone that worked out consistently and followed the guidelines for what he believed to be healthy practices, it didn’t seem to add up. After experimenting with glucose monitoring, he realized that he was pre-diabetic, borderlining on fully-blown diabetic, and that the foods he was eating were having a significant impact on his performance. It was this discovery and struggle to derive actionable insights from his glucose monitoring that led him to start Levels. Today at Levels Health, Josh and his team are revolutionizing the way people think about their metabolic health. And why is metabolic health so important? Before Levels, an average person had no way of understanding how efficiently or inefficiently their body was producing energy. Levels enables you, using a new CGM system, to access and understand this information in real-time, so you can start making better diet and lifestyle choices to avoid those energy peaks and valleys. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Josh became a rocket scientist...8:50 -How Josh became interested in blood glucose management...32:05 -How a CGM works, what it measures, and how it compares to a blood glucose stick...19:33 -How the Levels app calibrates w/ the CGM's on the market...24:00 -Gold standard location for placement of the GCM on the body...30:45 -How to keep the CGM on your body for long periods of time...31:00 -How to obtain a CGM without faking you have diabetes...37:50 -If it's necessary to wear a CGM in perpetuity...39:15 -What is a "metabolic score?"...45:15 -What is an "activity response"...56:15 -How to keep blood glucose stable throughout the day and beyond...1:01:00 -Glucose disposal agents that may be outside the norm...1:06:45 -Josh's personal practices to stabilize his glucose levels...1:11:45 See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Is Juicing Healthy, The World's First Keto-Friendly Juice, Everything You Need To Know About Cold Pressed Juices, Juice Fasts & More With Farmers Juice Founder Junaid Kalmadi.

I'll admit that I've never been a fan of the "juicing" and "cold-pressed juice" trend. Most of these popular juices are full of oodles of sugar that basically mainline fructose into your bloodstream with very little of the actual fiber and water you'd find in whole fruit. Most are extremely overpriced compared to what you could make at home, yet what you can make at home creates a huge mess and cleanup situation (anybody else ever tried to clean a juicer daily and had to deal with all the pulp and waste all over the kitchen counter?). Furthermore, the actual source of most of the produce used in the juices is subpar fruit and vegetables grown in degraded, mineral-depleted soil and/or contains GMO ingredients, pesticides, herbicides and other additives - and if they *don't* have preservatives they go bad super quickly in your fridge, hence destroying all your hard-earned juice. In the past, my solution for this has been to use a good organic vegetable juice powder, such as the one made by my friends at OrganifiSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

How You Really Lose Fat (You'll Be Surprised), How To Enhance Fat Loss Using Simple Breath Tactics, Plus Near Death Experiences, Psychedelics & More!.

In the past, I've discussed the link between respiration and body fat in articles such as "The 2 Best Ways To Burn Fat Fast (Without Destroying Your Hormones Or Metabolism)" and on the podcast "16 Reasons You’re Not Burning Fat (& How To Lose Weight The Right Way)." But my friend and former podcast guest Adam Wenguer recently introduced me to a guy who has thoroughly studied the link between breath and fat loss, and he has some very interesting insights on the matter as well as some potent fat loss tips you may find quite handy. His name is David Morin. David is a German-born American fitness trainer, model, corporate wellness speaker, and entrepreneur. An accredited strength and conditioning trainer and coach with 16 years of experience, David's clients include everyone from folks in the U.S. Special Forces to NBA stars like Allen Iverson. His skill set continues to evolve through various modalities rooted in movement, martial arts, Chi Kung, mediation, biofeedback, free-weight training, HIIT, and advanced biohacking techniques. He has appeared on more than 30 fitness magazine covers, including Muscle & Fitness, FitnessRX, Men’s Health, and Ironman magazine. For over 10 years and in 15 countries, David has been featured over 100 times as an editorial contributor and instructional fitness model for print media. Not to mention, he has hosted a number of successful fitness product infomercials. David joined “A-list celebrity” Rebel Wilson for a six-page editorial inside Glamour Magazine recently and can be found in advertisements on the internet and in print and billboards around the world representing his supplement partner Dymatize. David can also be seen in the documentary The Perfect Physique as well as working on director Micheal Bay's film “Pain & Gain” with The Rock and Mark Wahlberg. As a father of four who likes to stay active, David took matters into his own hands to create an effective, efficient at-home training regime called Lynx Fitness. As a corporate wellness speaker for clients such as Bank United and Post Holdings, David covers nutritional topics, practical guides to better health, DNA-test-specific nutrient selection, and behavioral pattern course correction towards higher productivity and health. Finally, David created FLO2 essential oils for "sniffing" pre-workout, and I have to admit, since David sent me some after this podcast and I began to use them, they are now my preferred alternative to full-on "smelling salts" for hard workouts. I recommend you try them for yourself. You can click here to get FLO2, and use code BENFLO to save 25%.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ben Got COVID (& What He Did About It), How To Fix Issues With Your Brain, The "God Cap" For Neurofeedback, Do Home Neurofeedback Devices Work & More With Dr. Andrew Hill.

bengreenfieldfitness.com/peakbrainpodcast Special Announcement: In the beginning of this episode, I describe how I got COVID and what I did about it. Enjoy! Back in 2017, I visited the Peak Brain Institute in Los Angeles, California for a special type of advanced brain scan and brain mapping system called a quantified electroencephalography, or “QEEG”, and I was shocked at what they discovered in my brain. Dr. Andrew Hill, my guest on today's show, oversaw the entire mapping protocol. Dr. Hill, a UCLA trained cognitive neuroscientist, lecturer, discovered what he described as some pretty severe patterns of excess stressful beta waves, excess theta waves, and excess delta waves in my brain. What's that mean, exactly? Basically, it suggests that I had some history of concussions and traumatic brain injury (which I indeed have had, in everything from football to mountain biking to kickboxing), as well as built-up deficits of attention, increased distractibility, limited sleep potential and less-than-optimal cognitive performance from life, travel, toxins, head injuries and beyond. Two months after the scan, I hopped on a plane back to LA, and ventured back into the Peak Brain Institute for three days of intensive training to fix my brain, returning to Spokane with a briefcase packed with a laptop, electrodes, conducting gel, and everything I needed to use neurofeedback to fix my brain. The next three months I trained for 30 minutes every other day using a style of neurofeedback I can best describe as “meditation on steroids”. Mostly, my protocol involved flying a spaceship with my mind. Each time my brain subconsciously shifted into brainwave patterns considered to be unfavorable, the spaceship would stop flying and the music generated by the neurofeedback software would fade away, very much like a cognitive “slap on the wrist”. So how exactly does neurofeedback work? Technically, it’s a non-invasive form of what is known in the medical industry as “central nervous system biofeedback”. It trains the brain to develop new resources by encouraging certain areas to raise or lower the amplitude and ratios of particular brainwaves. To a very large extent, and unlike peripheral biofeedback such as practicing a physical exercise like a handstand, neurofeedback is an entirely non-voluntary process in which you are shaping the brain giving the brain feedback only when it’s doing certain things. Professional clinicians report that about 90% of users notice a significant positive impact from this style of training, and it can be used for everything from decreasing anxiety and stress to inducing faster sleep onset to even resetting tolerance to marijuana and alcohol. Neurofeedback training simply involves the placement of electrodes on the scalp, which produces a signal then picked up by an EEG amplifier. These signals are fed into software that then sends back to the user some form of visual and/or auditory “feedback” or reward. This reward stimulus is given when the brain produces desired brainwave changes in amplitude or frequency. Unlike many books and magazines would have you to believe, this type of protocol is slightly risky, and not just something you download a free neurofeedback app to do. Neurofeedback is a powerful tool and every brain is different, so the single most crucial aspect of neurofeedback training is selecting the proper protocol. Although the QEEG provides crucial information about one person’s brain, the training plan itself needs to be adaptive and iterative, based upon how someone responds to the training, which is why it's important to have the entire testing and training process overseen by a neurofeedback practitioner. Heck, when I did my three months of training with the Peak Brain Institute, Dr. Hill and I were text and email buddies nearly every day. Neurofeedback can produce side effects, although they are generally minor and short lasting – and also informative to a neurofeedback practitioner. If you get adverse effects, protocols can be adjusted to steer the brain in a different direction. But if you are training yourself with no supervision and no sense of what’s actually happening in your brain, you can easily produce negative side effects and if you keep doing it you can cause these negative effects to become permanent. So proceed with caution, but with the understanding that neurofeedback is one of the more powerful pieces of headgear that can be used to enhance or change your brain. During our discussion, you'll discover: -A brief overview of the Peak Brain Institute...8:36 -Why a home device isn't enough for optimal brain performance...11:18 -How close we are to a "god cap" that can track brain waves without gel, electrodes, etc...25:35 -How the Peak Brain Institute tracks individual's brain waves virtually...35:45 -How diet affects a person's neurofeedback...42:40 -Nootropics or smart drugs that promote neurofeedback...1:01:45See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Advanced Smart Drugs & Nootropics You've Never Heard Of, Rare Japanese Seaweed For Sleep Enhancement, The Most Powerful Form Of Vitamin B1 That Exists & Much More!

Even though it's pretty rare I scroll through many feeds on Instagram or elsewhere, I recently began following an interesting Instagram account. Titled "Ergogenic Health", it intrigued me with some very interesting content I hadn't seen before, including: -A commonly known special fruit that enhances the effects of psychedelics... -A simple free activity you can do anytime to lower cortisol by over 21%... -How the way you brush your teeth may actually reduce intelligence... -A very unique form of vitamin B1 called Thiamine tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide (TTFD) that increases exercise performance, motivation, mood and overall energy... -How capsicum from peppers may lead to anxiety in some people... -The little known "younger sister" of curcumin... -And much more! So recently, I was able to connect with the guy who runs that Instagram channel, along with a host of other intriguing, well-informed, and outside-the-box websites, along with a podcast. His name is Lucas Aoun, and he graciously agreed to take a nerdy deep dive into biohacking with me on this podcast episode.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ancient Healing Secrets, Tinctures, Salves, Hydrosols & Teas, Permaculture Tips & Much More From A Little-Known Superfood Farm In Hawaii.

I first met Doug Wolkon when I was visiting Kauai and was convinced by big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton to go visit a favorite local farm of his called Kauai Farmacy. I was immediately blown away by the vast array of over 80 varieties of organic healing plants and food orchards... ...along with a team of incredibly knowledgeable herbalists and gardeners; a closed-loop vermiculture feeding system (worm compost farm), honeybees, butterflies, and other pollinators; wildfowl; environmentally-compatible farming (water-catchments, permaculture guilds, and more); and medicine-making systems (solar-dehydrators, low-temperature herb-curing, herbal teas, tinctures, hydrosols, salves, honey, capsules, and more). Everything is done by hand at the Farmacy, including brewing homemade fertilizers from the plants they grow. They seed, propagate, plant, hand-harvest, artisanally-craft, and package all the herbal products they grow right on the farm. The fresh and pure nature of the herbs ensures high quality, potent, consistent, and effective plant medicine straight from the source. Since that visit two years ago, if you've been following me on Instagram and elsewhere, you've seen me using ample amounts of Kauai Farmacy powders and tinctures in my recipes, along with products such as their salves and hydrosols for joint and skin health. Rooted in the wisdom of Hawaiian La’au lapa’au, Ayurveda, Chinese medicine, and the tribal indigenous, the potent herbal plant medicines harvested from the rich, volcanic soil of Kauai just seem to have a very unique and special energy. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Doug pursued a ten-year career in private equity finance in Connecticut. Before moving his family to Hawaii in 2007, Doug published The New Game, an economic theory and strategy for sustainable communities. Doug co-founded Kauai Farmacy in 2010 with his wife Genna, and they currently live there with their three kids. The Farmacy is a seed-to-cup tropical herbal oasis spanning four acres and consisting of what may be the most diverse collection of plant medicine in the western hemisphere. After spending the last 10 years experiencing the power of fresh plant medicine for both himself and his family on a daily basis, Doug thrives on a high-fat, ketogenic, 100% raw-food diet. Carnivore Diet, Raw Beans, Lectin Myths, Pre-Sleep Gelatin, Apple Peels & More - Q&A Episode With Joel Greene!

It's time for Part 3 of my monster podcast series with author Joel Greene, in which Joel hops on for an epic solosode to answer all your burning questions, including: How does "The Carnivore Code" affect Crohn's disease? Should you cook beans, or eat them raw? How much gelatin should you eat before bed or in the afternoon? If apple peel is the first way forward, my question is how much apple peel should we aim for? And what's the best color apple? How should we take human milk oligosaccharides (HMO)? Any thoughts on taking pectin powder (like the kind used to make jellies) in order to feed Akkermansia? Can you take apple peels and predigest them like sauerkraut? Is there a clean baby formula or another supplement you can recommend? What are the dangers of MCT oil supplementation? What’s your opinion of Nuchido Time+ NAD supplements? Do I do the 2 weeks of apple skins, HMO, and phenol powder before I attempt any of the other modules? Do I do the Daisy Cutter protocol right away or wait until later? At what point do I add the other modules in? What is Joel’s one-day B vitamin protocol? What is your source of HMO? Which brand and product? If you missed part 1, in which we discuss rebooting your gut and sparking fat loss using some very unique biohacks and strategies, you can listen to it at "How To Reboot The Gut, Eat Cheesecake Without Gaining Weight, Amplify Any Fasting Protocol & Maximize Fat Loss." You can hear part 2 at "Joel Greene Podcast Part 2: How To Reshape Fat Cells, Enhance Repair During Sleep, Target Your "Circaseptan Rhythms," Build Young Muscle & Get Rid Of Old Muscle." You can also, check out Joel's guest post on my blog entitled "Your Body Fat Is Your Immune System’s Mothership: The Mysterious Relationship Between Fat Cells & Immunity." So, who is Joel Greene, exactly? To put it simply, he's a man who had his 10,000 hours in before I was even born. In the 1970s, he was interval training. In 1979, he was doing Olympic lifts for three hours every night. In the 80s, he began studying MCTs. In 1990, he began studying the keto diet. In the early 90s, he was doing what would be called intermittent fasting today. In the mid 90s, he experienced the rebound from chronic starvation. In the late 90s, he went through his clean eating phase, his macro phase, and his ancestral diet phase. By 2001, he had his first nutrition website publishing cutting edge research. By 2006, he came to the end of all the above and discovered none of it worked over time and under real-life pressure. In 2007, he authored the first article for the health and fitness community based on the new science linking gut bacteria and obesity. In 2008, his website lookcut.com hit #2 on Google for weight loss—with over 1,000 original groundbreaking articles that today represent many of the most widely copied ideas in nutrition. In 2009, he launched the world's first diet system based on targeting gut bacteria. In 2010, he was implementing signal activation of the AMPK pathway. The gurus only began speaking to AMPK in 2017. By 2013, he had the world's largest body of anecdotal outcomes for body composition targeting the gut bacteria. In 2013, he published the first article to the health and fitness community on the dangers of MCT oil supplementation. Today—at 53, on 1 workout a week, eating whatever, whenever, with no drugs, SARMS, prohormones, or ergogenic aids ever—he is the world leader in hacking the body. He is the real deal. He has done it longer and has always been far ahead. He looks it, he lives it. What the gurus say is impossible, he was living every day before they were gurus. He has hacked peak human… Working out once per week… Eating whatever, whenever… …and does it all on fast food! He is the future of real-world health and nutrition, today. Joel is the creator of the VEEP Nutrition System, the world's first commercially available program based on targeting gut communities to effect biomarkers. He is a featured author, speaker, and guest in top tier publications such as Muscle and Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness Digital Magazine, CBS Online, Superhuman Radio, and beyond. His system has also been featured on the Dr. Phil Show, where it has delivered astounding life-changing results. He is the future of real-world health and nutrition—today, and his new book was one of the most nitty-gritty deep dives into “rebooting your body” that I've ever read. The Immunity Code is simply a new paradigm and an entirely new way to think about caring for your body. The new goal is learning to control immunity, health, and aging using new science-based techniques (or hacks, if you will) to steer immunity for health and to slow, or even reverse, aging. This book will change everything you know about your body. Starting with simple easy to-dos that build one on top of the other, you will emerge with a powerful understanding of how your body really works and how to control it over time, in the real world. Simply put, you will jump 10 years ahead of

Breathwork vs. Psychedelics, Tantric Sex, Relational Alchemy, Questions That Lead To Love & Much More With Stefanos Sifandos & Christine Hassler.

My two guests on today's show flew to my home in Spokane to train me and my wife Jessa in some very special forms of breath work training that they specialize in, particularly for couples and tantric sex, but also for trauma, emotional release and much more. Stefanos Sifandos describes himself as a relational alchemist, international speaker, and author who facilitates transformational growth through neuro-empowerment practices, an integration of spiritual praxis, and western psychology to improve, evolve, and enhance the quality of relationships. By integrating the best of Eastern and Western methodologies and philosophies, and using integrative techniques methods, Stefanos has created programs and systems to enhance the quality of your life, your relationship, and, in essence, bring them closer to their potential. Christine Hassler is a best-selling author, keynote speaker, master coach, and podcast host who is committed to guiding people and organizations into their highest potential. She left her successful job as a Hollywood agent at 25 to pursue a life she could be passionate about, but it did not come easily. After being inspired by her own unexpected challenges and experiences, she realized her journey was indeed her destination. Her thirst for personal development continued as she dived into self-help books, attended seminars and retreats, got trained in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and eventually pursued her master’s degree in spiritual psychology with an emphasis in consciousness, health, and healing from the University of Santa Monica. As a student (and eventually, faculty member), Christine found that the principles she learned at the USM were foundational to her life and work. In 2005, she wrote her first book 20 Something 20 Everything, and then the 20 Something Manifesto in 2008. Her latest best-selling book, Expectation Hangover: Free Yourself from Your Past, Change Your Present and Get What You Really Want, is the guidebook for how to treat disappointment on the emotional, mental, behavioral, and spiritual levels. The breath work course we discuss in detail in the show is their Breathwork and Meditation Series (use code BEN to save $30). During this discussion, you'll discover: -What a "relational alchemist" is...08:15 Moving from an undesirable place in a relationship to what you love What's not giving us clarity is a sense of unresolved pain, trauma, fear First build safety, rapport, trust between Stefanos and his clients -The role of breathwork in Stefanos' practice...10:15 Recommended by a friend during a turbulent personal time Similar to Holotropic breathwork Transcended analytical elements of the mind Breathwork complemented psychedelics Stefanos had used Magic Chocolate, Holotropic Breathwork, Grounding, Earthing, Vortexes, Crystals & More With Shamangelic Healer Anahata Ananda. Are Christians Destroying The Environment? A Biblical Approach to Environmentalism and the “Dominion Mandate”.

bengreenfieldfitness.com/shadeofgreen Let's face it: Christians don't seem to be very good environmentalists. We have been shockingly bad at using our Bibles and our brains when it comes to conservation and the environment. Unhinged environmentalism is not the answer, but neither are ignorance and apathy. It's time for something different, and my guest on today's podcast - Dr. Gordon Wilson - feels that Christian responsibility for the natural world goes back to the very beginning, when God commanded us to "fill the earth and subdue it." This so-called "Dominion Mandate" is an authoritative alternative to both environmental activists and to those who think "conservation" is a word progressives made up. So what does "dominion" mean for us, living in a world of constant reports about impending global meltdown; of oils spills, pollution, and strip-mining; of extinction threats both real and imagined? Gordon and his new book A Different Shade of Green: A Biblical Approach to Environmentalism and the Dominion Mandate contains a compelling Christian approach to biodiversity, conservation and other environmental issues, offering solutions and correcting errors while teaching us how to give thanks for and rule over all of creation. Dr. Wilson is currently a Senior Fellow of Natural History at New Saint Andrews College in Moscow, Idaho. Before coming to NSA he was a faculty member at Liberty University from 1991 2003. He has also taught on a part-time basis at the University of Idaho and Lynchburg College. Gordon received his Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Public Policy from George Mason University in 2003, and also earned his M.S. in Entomology (1989) and B.S. in Education/Biology (1984) at the University of Idaho. He has published his dissertation research on the reproductive ecology of the Eastern Box Turtle (Terrapene Carolina Carolina) in Southeastern Naturalist and The Herpetological Bulletin. He regularly writes popular natural history articles for Answers Magazine and has recently published a biology textbook called The Riot and the Dance: Earth. He is also the narrator of a two part nature documentary series called by the same name. During this discussion, you'll discover: Opening remarks from Ben -How we've lost our perception of the intelligence of plants...10:00 The Lost Language of Plants by Stephen Buhner Christianity began process of removing sacred intelligence of all life after the fall of the Roman Empire "Dominion mandate" Nature is created by God for people; views creation as a mere resource rather than part of the creation Protestantism reduced sacredness to only Jesus Eastern Orthodox Christianity Movement within Christianity to renew an understanding of the sacred elements of the planet Human inventions has limitations: design flaws, human biases, etc. Reductionism: we examine systems by taking them apart This is not sufficient to fully understand the planet -Biophilia, and perceiving all of nature with the emotional bond we have with family and pets...14:30 The Lost Language of Plants by Stephen Buhner Loss of biophilia aggravated by: Not growing up in nature leads to a lack of appreciation for it The idea that Earth and nature is not "alive" Public school curriculum by and large have this loss of biophilia Earth in Mind by David Orr Television has deleteriously affected imagination, creativity, storytelling, dreaming Television is to dreaming what junk food is to real food We've lost our connection to the sacredness of the universe with the advent of modern media and technology Two barriers to our understanding of our environment: Indoor television (video games to a lesser extent) Reductionistic scientism in a public school scenario Indigenous peoples will say their understanding of plants and plant medicine came from the plants themselves Ayahuasca supposedly revealed to people by the plants themselves Christians and scientists should spend more time in nature and perceive the sacred intelligence in plants Interview with Gordon Wilson -Life as a biologist and a Christian...35:25 Being a creationist is tantamount to being a heretic in the biology field at large (evolution is the cardinal doctrine) Wanted to learn the theory of evolution the way it was taught to prove he knew what they believed This approach more or less assuaged any animosity that may have existed between himself and his peers, superiors, etc. University deans and what not feared losing federal funding because a creationist is merely speaking, even if it's not his own views In Six Days by John Ashton Isaac Newton, Louis Pasteur were notable biologists who held to the creationist theory of the world -The pressing need Gordon saw in writing his book...43:15 Two contrarian views within the Christian community: Use of resources with little concern for the future Being influenced by environmentalist propaganda, governmental overreach, etc. Understanding God's "mind" in creating the world, life on it, etc. What is the Christia

One Comprehensive Health Test To Rule Them All? How To Get An At-A-Glance "Clarity" Report Of Your Genetic Age, Death Risk, Gut Health, Ideal Diet, Exercise, Sleep & Much More.

Drs. Matt Dawson and Mike Mallin are multi-time repeat podcast guests on my show, and the lead physicians at Wild Health, with locations and physicians spread all across the United States. I first interviewed these guys in the episode "How To Use Precision Medicine To Enhance Athletic Performance, Defy Aging, Balance Hormones, Fix The Heart & Much More." then again in "Why Your DNA Is Worthless (& What You Need To Focus On Instead)", and finally, a few months ago, in the episode "Biohacking Your Brain With Precision Medicine, Genomics, Psychedelics, Advanced Nutritional Strategies & Much More!". In this episode, they're back to reveal a brand new, impressively comprehensive biomarkers test that they've had a team of MDs, PHDs, data scientists, and software developers working on for over a year. It takes into account genetics, epigenome, microbiome, environment and more, and they call it "Wild Health Clarity". Dr. Matt Dawson is a precision medicine physician in Lexington, KY, co-host of the Wild Health Podcast, and has been obsessed with performance optimization as long as he can remember. He received scholarships to play two sports in college even with “minimal talent” because of his voracious reading and implementation of any fitness or nutritional techniques that would give him an edge. Dr. Dawson continued that obsession in medical school, and as a physician, he has won national awards for education, innovation, and leadership. He has lectured in over 20 countries and trained thousands of other physicians through live lectures, online education, two textbooks, and an educational app. Dr. Dawson combines his training in genomics and functional medicine to give personalized, precise medical guidance. His obsession with performance optimization has morphed from, initially athletic, to now mental performance and longevity. Whether you're a professional athlete or a grandparent optimizing your mental clarity and mobility to keep up with your grandkids, Dr. Dawson is passionate about helping you perform at your absolute peak. Dr. Mike Mallin is a physician in Bend, OR who is obsessed with health performance and precision medicine and is co-founder of the Wild Health Podcast. He completed medical school in South Carolina and trained in emergency medicine in Salt Lake City, UT, where he competed in several ultramarathons and found his love for the mountains and performance. Mike currently practices in Bend, OR, and Lexington, KY in his precision medicine clinics. Inside The Bizarre World & Strange Science of Exercise Recovery: What Works, What Doesn't & Why Many Studies Are Flawed.

In recent years recovery has become a sports and fitness buzzword. Anyone who works out or competes at any level is bombarded with the latest recovery products and services: from drinks and shakes to compression sleeves, foam rollers, electrical muscle stimulators, and sleep trackers. My guest on today's podcast, science writer and author of the new book Good to Go is named Christie Aschwanden. In her book and on our podcast, she takes you on an entertaining and enlightening tour through this strange world. She investigates whether drinking Gatorade or beer after training helps or hinders performance; she examines the latest trends among athletes, from NFL star Tom Brady’s infrared pajamas to gymnast Simone Biles’ pneumatic compression boots to swimmer Michael Phelps’s “cupping” ritual; and she tests some of the most controversial methods herself, including cryochambers, float tanks, and infrared saunas. At a time when the latest recovery products and services promise so much, Christie seeks answers to the fundamental question: do any of these things actually help the body recover and achieve peak performance? Christie is an Ideas columnist at Wired, and writes the Test Gym column at Elemental. She is the former lead science writer at FiveThirtyEight and was previously a health columnist for The Washington Post. Christie is a frequent contributor to The New York Times. She’s also been a contributing editor for Runner’s World and a contributing writer for Bicycling. Her work appears in dozens of publications, including Discover, Slate, Consumer Reports, New Scientist, More, Men’s Journal, Mother Jones, NPR.org, Scientific American, Science News, Smithsonian and O, the Oprah Magazine. She’s the recipient of a 2014/2015 Santa Fe Institute Journalism Fellowship In Complexity Science and was a 2013/2014 Carter Center Fellow. Christie received a grant from the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting in 2007 to travel to Vietnam and report on the legacy of Agent Orange. Her television report on Agent Orange, created in collaboration with producer George Lerner, appeared on the PBS program Foreign Exchange with Fareed Zakaria in June 2007. Her New York Times article about an Agent Orange remediation project in Vietnam’s central highlands was awarded the 2008 Arlene Award for articles that make a difference. The South African Performance Expert Who Blends Biohacking, Biomechanics, Body, Mind, Relationships, Environment & Beyond To Optimize Human Performance.

My guest on today's show is a man I met in India and immediately became intrigued with when he sat down to dinner with me and a friend, and began to delve into unlocking flow states in athletes through breath work. It turns out he had over two decades of experience in coaching professional athletes towards not only cultivating a winning mindset, but also customizing their training loads to their biomechanics and physiology, then optimizing body, mind, relationship and personal environment to skyrocket the careers of the Indian professional teams and athletes he was working with. His name is Shayamal Vallabhjee, and he describes his new book Breathe, Believe, Balance: A Guide to Self-discovery and Healing as an "out-of-the-box approach" to performance enhancement. It is one part memoir and one part guide to self-discovery - an intimate account of the lessons Shayamal learned while growing up during South Africa's apartheid era, from living the life of a monk and traveling the globe with professional athletes. Using his knowledge and experience from the worlds of science, spirituality, and psychology, in this book, he takes you through this introspective and self-healing journey. From understanding the importance of self-love to decoding the science of healthy relationships; from learning to be emotionally present in every conversation to engineering your environment for success, Breathe, Believe, Balance helps you take a deeper look at your life. Offering a scientific analysis of the human psyche and packed with useful questionnaires, his book is your guide to self-transformation and personal mastery. Shayamal is a South African born Sports Scientist, Psychologist and High Performance Coach. He hold two masters degrees in Clinical and Organizational Psychology. He grew up in apartheid South Africa, where his dream of wanting to play sports for the country faced an insurmountable opponent in institutionalized segregation. Not quite ready to quit sport, he studied Sports & Exercise Science. After returning from the Cricket World Cup in 2003 (Technical Analyst of Indian Cricket Team), he realized that irrespective of one’s academic qualifications and experience, racism was going to be a barrier to growth for people of color. To escape the pain of discrimination, he lived a monastic life for just under four years at the Hare Krsna Temple in South Africa. During that time, he discovered the close parallels between modern psychology and ancient vedic philosophy. Shayamal has since studied the various spiritual philosophies and worked to bridge the gap between spirituality and psychology in an attempt to guide his clients - the worlds best athletes and CEOs. Shayamal is a 4x TEDx speaker, a recipient of the INK Fellowship, the Australia India Youth Fellowship, Men’s Health Trainer of the Year, and Wellness Guru of the Year 2019. He serves on the Global Advisory Board of Herbalife Nutrition, Adidas Running and the UK Risk Management Forum. He has authored four book on Sports Science and Motivation and lectured at academic institutes globally for more than a decade. As a motivational speaker, Shayamal has delivered more than 350 keynotes addresses. Shayamal has served as a consultant to the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa , Kenyan Athletics Team, Indian Olympic Association, United Nations Youth Forums, and on the peer review board of numerous academic scientific journals. He has been a High Performance Coach or Sports Scientist to the South Africa High Performance and Women’s Cricket Team, 2003 Indian World Cup Cricket Team, South Africa Davis Cup Team, Indian Davis Cup Team, Kings XI Punjab (IPL), Bengaluru FC (3 x Winners of Premier League in India), Jaipur Pink Panthers (Inaugural Kabaddi Champions), St Lucia Stars (Carribean Premier League). He has been the Sports Scientist with the Indian Contingent at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, London 2012 Olympics, Delhi Commonwealth Games, and 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. He has worked on the ATP Tennis Tour for six years with individuals like Mahesh Bhupathi (12 x Grand Slam Champion), Sania Mirza (6 x GS), Max Mirnyi (10 x GS), Gael Monfils, Marin Cilic (US Open Winner), and more. In 2012, he founded the HEAL Institute - Mumbai’s first Sports Science and Rehab practice. He exited the business in 2018 after it was acquired by Centrum Capital. He is currently the founder of QSV Inspiration Media - a digital content start up, seed funded by AR Rahman, Shekar Kapur and Samir Bangara. Shayamal has been featured as an expert on four National Geographic Documentaries, and has had his own shows on Star Sports and ESPN. During our podcast, we explore many concepts in the book and beyond, including: -Shayamal's journey to being a high-performance coach...09:55 Grew up during apartheid era of South Africa Wanted to play cricket at the national level, but was unable to due to his race and public policy Cricket Union paid for scholarship in sports science Went

Weight Lifting Is a Waste of Time (So Is Cardio & There’s a Better Way to Have The Body You Want).

bengreenfieldfitness.com/wasteoftime Perhaps you've been lifting weights for a few years. But do you even look like you work out? Are you spending disproportionate amounts of hours exercising wasting your time? Many fitness “experts” defend weights and cardio like they are infallible, but where are the results? Why does almost nobody look even marginally athletic? It's been quite some time since I interviewed Dr. John Jaquish in the episode "The Best 10 Minute A Day Workout – How To Massively Increase Bone Density And Muscle In Just 10 Minutes (& Biohack Extreme Fitness Levels)". But he has just published a brand new book entitled Weight Lifting Is a Waste of Time (So Is Cardio & There’s a Better Way to Have the Body You Want). In it, he and and his guest co-author Henry Alkire tackle the questions above as they explore the science that supports the argument that traditional weight lifting is a "waste of time" and lay out a superior strength training approach that has been seen to put 20 pounds of muscle on drug-free, experienced lifters (i.e., not beginners) in six months. Fitness may be the most failed human endeavor, and you are about to see how exercise science has missed some obvious principles that when enacted will turn you into the superhuman you always wanted to be. John Jaquish, PhD. has spent years researching and developing improved approaches to health. He is the inventor of the most effective bone density building medical technology which is now partnered with Tony Robbins and OsteoStrong for rapid clinic deployment. Inventor of X3, a technology that is proven to develop muscle much faster than conventional weight lifting, all with the lowest risk of joint injury, Dr. Jaquish methods are used in training the world's most elite athletes and associations such as the entire Miami Heat organization, various NFL and NBA players, as well as Olympians. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Why lifting weights is the wrong way to build muscle...6:21 -A workout using the VRT protocol...15:05 -Ways to maximize hyperplasia in the muscles during VRT...17:30 -Why you shouldn't worry about your muscle fiber type...29:15 -The questions an ideal exercise program should cover...31:45 -Why doing cardio for weight loss is a lie...41:30 -Selecting the best training bands...47:30 -Whether or not drugs are necessary to enhance training...53:45 -How the fitness industry has failed to make people truly fit...1:00:05 -And much more!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Everything You've Ever Wanted To Know About Fish Oil, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, EPA, DHA & Much More!

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/fishoilpodcast After publishing my recent giant fish oil article "A Deep "Dive" Into The Fascinating World Of Fish Oil, The Right Fat Ratios In Your Diet, Plant Vs. Animal Based Oils & The Exact Fish Oil Ben Greenfield Uses Every Day.", I've been getting plenty of questions about fish oil lately, including: -Based on human clinical research, what are the actual proven benefits of fish oil? -What kind of dosages/types of fish oil were used in studies? -Are there concerns about rancidity/oxidation when taking fish oil? -What kind of amount and EPA/DHA ratio is ideal? -Are there people who shouldn't take fish oil? -Are there certain nutrients or supplements that should be taken with fish oil? -How can one test their omega fatty acid status? And much more. So I finally decided to get a couple of true, unbiased fish oil experts on my show. Dr. William S. Harris is my first guest. He is an internationally recognized expert on omega-3 fatty acids and how they can benefit patients with heart disease. He obtained his Ph.D. in Human Nutrition from the University of Minnesota and did post-doctoral fellowships in Clinical Nutrition and Lipid Metabolism with Dr. Bill Connor at the Oregon Health Sciences University. His interest in omega-3 fatty acids began with his postdoctoral work when he published his first study on the effects of salmon oil on serum lipids in humans (1980). Since that time he has been the recipient of five NIH grants for studies on the effects of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) on human health. He has more than 300 publications relating to fatty acids, including omega-3s, in medical literature and was an author on two American Heart Association scientific statements on fatty acids: “Fish Consumption, Fish Oil, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease” (2002), and “Omega-6 Fatty Acids and Risk for Cardiovascular Disease” (2009) both published in the journal Circulation. Dr. Harris is a Professor in the Department of Medicine in the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota and the President and CEO of OmegaQuant. Dr. Harris's daughter, Dr. Kristina Harris Jackson, PhD, RD is my second guest. Kristina received her PhD in Nutritional Sciences from Pennsylvania State University in 2013 and completed her training to become a Registered Dietitian in 2014. As a graduate student, she studied under Dr. Penny Kris-Etherton, an internationally-recognized expert in fats and nutrition. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Colorado-Denver under Dr. John Peters in the area of worksite wellness before returning to the omega-3 field. Kristina joined the family business OmegaQuant Analytics as a Research Associate in 2014, with a particular focus on omega-3s in maternal health, helping create the Prenatal DHA test and the Mother’s Milk DHA test. In 2020, she became Assistant Professor (non-tenure) in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. (2020-2022). She lives in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with her husband, two kids, one old dog, and four grandparents. During this discussion, you'll discover: -The 2 sources of Omega-3 fatty acids...8:35 Plant derived fatty acid ALA, alpha linolenic acid( 18 carbons); an acid in the omega-3 family – not the same thing as the fish derived omega-3 Fish derived EPA (20 carbons) and DHA (22 carbons) Cannot get much of the good stuff from ALA (seeds and nuts) Algal oil from micro algae (single cell organism, not kelp) that make EPA/DHA naturally; at the base of the marine food chain Omega-3 fatty acids are made by plants, not fish Some companies grow these algae in big ponds, harvest the omega-3 fatty acids and put in capsules Vegan derived EPA/DHA products has exactly the same molecules as EPA/DHA derived from fish, but does not come from fish, it comes from algae Process is expensive Aquaculture industry is driving the demand for algal oil 70~80% of fish oil produced is fed back to the fish Other sources of fish oil are genetically modified land plants Canela seed oil; Australia is at the forefront to put genes into oil producing land plants, like soy beans -What makes essential fatty acids so essential...15:45 Cell membranes, made up of fatty acids, surround every cell in the body For structural aspect of the cell Provides starting products for different signaling pathways, affects how cells communicate internally and externally Membrane fluidity; more carbon and double bonds makes cell membranes more flexible and fluid Cell membranes are comprised of dietary fats The body can’t make the essential omega-6 fatty acids (linoleic) and omega-3 fatty acids(ALA and EPA/DHA); these comes from the diet Trans-fats are also dietary fats Other fats, like saturated fats and monounsaturated fats, are affected by metabolism -Omega-3 fatty acids being oxidized once it enters the body is a misconception...19:36 Oxidation has different meanings to a biochemist and a

The Future Of Health Care, Wearables, AI, Plant Medicine & More With Dr. David Rabin & Dr. Joseph Maroon.

bengreenfieldfitness.com/futureofhealthcare Dr. David Rabin, MD, PhD, who first joined me for the episode "A Whole New Way To Deal With Stress, Trauma & PTSD In Just Seconds: The First Clinically Validated Wearable That Helps You De-Stress, Focus, Sleep, Stay Energized & Remain Calm.", is a neuroscientist, board-certified psychiatrist, health tech entrepreneur and inventor who has been studying the impact of chronic stress in humans for nearly 15 years, particularly non-invasive therapies for treatment-resistant illnesses like PTSD. He is the co-founder and chief innovation officer at Apollo Neuroscience and the co-founder and executive director of The Board of Medicine. In addition to his clinical psychiatry practice, Dr. Rabin is currently conducting research on the epigenetic regulation of trauma responses and recovery to elucidate the mechanism of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and the neurobiology of belief. He received his MD in medicine and PhD in neuroscience from Albany Medical College and specialized in psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He has been married to Kathryn Fantauzzi, CEO and co-founder of Apollo Neuroscience, since 2016. Together they live in Monterey, California. Joining Dr. Rabin on this show is Dr. Joseph Maroon, Clinical Professor and Vice Chairman and Heindl Scholar in Neuroscience at Department of Neurosurgery at University of Pittsburgh. In addition to being a world-renowned "burnout expert", and completing eight Ironman triathlon events since turning 50, he is involved in development of minimally invasive surgical procedures for diseases of the brain, orbit and spine, the prevention and treatment of traumatic injuries to the central nervous system, innovative approaches to pituitary and other brain tumors, complimentary and alternative medicine approaches to inflammatory diseases associated with aging, the prevention and treatment of sports related injuries and is co-developer of ImPACT, a neurocognitive test that is now the standard of care for concussion management in the NFL, NHL, MLB, NASCAR and over 12,000 high schools and colleges in the United States. It is the only FDA approved test for concussion evaluation with 23 million athletes base line tested to date. Dr. Maroon is also the neurosurgical consultant for the Pittsburgh Steelers for 30 years and first neurosurgeon directly appointed in the NFL. Over the last several years, Dr. Rabin has been amassing a dream team, which has become The Board of Medicine, a 501c3 nonprofit coalition led by some of the world’s leading experts across many diverse fields of AI, nutrition, psychedelics, and clinical medicine that supports evidence-based strategies for harm-reduction in medicine and public health. He believes that the future of healthcare in the 21st century is going to change substantially as a result of the current pandemic and, it is pretty clear that we are woefully underprepared for this as a healthcare system. The most significant change will be that most forms of non-urgent medical care will be delivered directly to patients/clients in their homes via telemedicine. He is already seeing this shift in mental health to include ketamine-assisted tele-therapy and the integration of wearable technologies. As such, the future of healthcare is looking more and more digital and psychedelic with each passing day. This podcast will focus on AI, psychedelics, and the convergence of Eastern and Western medical disciplines in the current and post-COVID times. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Dr. Maroon lays claim to the title "burnout expert"...08:05 -The connection between burnout and adrenal fatigue...13:40 -A day in the life of an 80-year old peak performer...18:25 -Using hypothermia in conjunction with surgery...20:45 -What inspired Dr. Rabin to form the Board of Medicine...22:30 -The number needed to treat (NNT) vs. the number needed to harm (NNH)...28:30 -Whether the NNT is applied to plant medicines, herbs, CBD and the like...36:40 -How artificial intelligence is used for human optimization...41:30 -Psychedelics, plant medicine and the future of health care...52:30 -Concerns about psychedelics from the perspective of the neurosurgeon...1:00:30 -Neuroimaging to diagnose the executive network of the brain...1:06:13 -What David and Joe are most excited about for the future of health care...1:09:10 -And much more!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Sound Medicine: How to Use the Ancient Science of Sound to Heal the Body and Mind.

I recently read "Sound Medicine: How to Use the Ancient Science of Sound to Heal the Body and Mind". From a leading neurologist, neuroscientist and practitioner of Ayurvedic medicine, comes a rigorous scientific investigation of the healing power of sound, showing readers how they can use it to improve their mental and physical wellbeing. Why does a baby’s cry instantaneously flood a mother’s body with a myriad of stress hormones? How can a song on the radio stir up powerful emotions, from joy to anger, regret to desire? Why does sound itself evoke such primal and deeply felt emotions? A vibration that travels through air, water and solids, sound is produced by all matter, and is a fundamental part of every species’ survival. But there is a hidden power within sound that has only just begun to be investigated. Sound Medicinetakes readers on a journey through the structure of the mouth, ears, and brain to understand how sound is translated from acoustic vibrations into meaningful neurological impulses. Renowned neurologist and Ayurvedic expert - and of course, my guest on today's podcast - Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary explains how different types of sound impact the human body and brain uniquely, and explores the physiological effects of sound vibration, from altering mood to healing disease. Blending ancient wisdom with modern science, Dr. Chaudhary traces the history of sound therapy and the use of specific mantras from previously unknown texts—traced back to the Siddhas, a group of enlightened yogis who created a healing tradition that served as the precursor to Ayurvedic medicine—to explain the therapeutic application of sounds for a wide range of conditions. During this show, you'll get practical, step-by-step lessons for using music and mantras, whether you’re a beginner or searching for a more advanced practice, to improve your health in body, mind, and spirit. Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary’s combined expertise in both modern neurology and the ancient science of health known as Ayurveda has uniquely positioned her as an expert able to pull from the broadest possible base to treat her clients. She is passionate about raising awareness for the need of a paradigm shift in contemporary medicine that focuses on patient empowerment and a health-based (rather than disease-based) medical system. Dr. Chaudhary is a regular guest on the Dr. Oz show, where her teachings about Ayurvedic medicine have been applauded by a national audience. Dr. Chaudhary was the Director of Wellspring Health in Scripps Memorial Hospital for ten years, and remains a pioneer in the field of Integrative Medicine. Dr. Chaudhary has successfully developed a powerful system to manage chronic neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and migraine headaches, by incorporating fundamental changes in diet, behavior, and stress, in addition to the standard allopathic approach to these issues. This program has been so successful that many patients now use it not just for neurological issues but also for a wider range of health concerns, including weight issues and chronic disease. Dr. Chaudhary is the author of The Prime and Sound Medicine and has appeared as a medical expert on numerous programs including The Dr. Oz Show and Home & Family. She is also a neuroscientist and has participated in over twenty clinical research studies in the areas of multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Her research includes groundbreaking work in stem cell therapies for diabetic peripheral neuropathy and drug development for the treatment of ALS. I have an N 99 carbon filter mask. I get fresh air whenever possible, and I workout regularly. I've been on point with nutrition. The Croissant Diet, Wine Fasting, Oodles Of Pork Lard, Keto Bricks & Much More With Brad Marshall.

bengreenfieldfitness.com/croissantdiet My friend Ron Penna recently emailed me about a guy named Brad Marshall who... "...has a fascinating take on why we get fat called the ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) Theory of Obesity and how ROS signaling as a result of eating saturated fats is critical for satiety. Provocative stuff and the more I read the more I’m pretty sure he is onto something. Joel Greene thinks Brad is crazy on this point but I have a feeling he will end up being right on most if not all of it. You can read more here: "The ROS Theory Of Obesity" Essentially, our entire meat supply (pork and chicken especially) is much higher in polyunsaturated fats than they should be and the only real way to change it is to change what we feed them. He is also starting to offer meats that are fed properly to ensure lower levels of PUFA. He also has been working on how eating croissants is the key to leanness. It has to be wrong but he makes VERY interesting arguments about it." Naturally, I just had to get this guy on the show. Brad Marshall is the author of the Blog Fire In A Bottle and the creator of The Croissant Diet. Mildly obsessed with food and its history, his work focuses on trying to place current ideas about diet, including keto and carnivore diets into the framework of traditional Dietary patterns. For instance, the French diet before 1970 combined flour, sugar, butter and wine and the population was lean. Brad wrote The ROS Theory of Obesity which posits that ROS generation in the mitochondria of fat cells could provide the mechanism that explains why a traditional chinese peasant diet - low fat with 85% of calories from starch; a French diet combining butter, wine and flour and a modern keto diet could all be expected to produce leanness but combining flour with polyunsaturated fats is a recipe for obesity. The core idea comes from the Protons thread of Peter Dobromylskyj’s blog Hyperlipid. Brad tested this hypothesis with his dietary experiment The Croissant Diet. Brad is also the founder of Firebrand Meats, which is dedicated to producing pork and poultry products that are low in Linoleic acid, the n6 polyunsaturated fat (PUFA) whose intake has seen a dramatic worldwide increase in the last century. Animals cannot make PUFA and so we can create pork and chicken that is nearly free of them. You are what your animals eat. Brad has a genetics degree from Cornell, a certificate from The French Culinary Institute, has studied cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer center and worked as a programmer for the Berkeley Drosophila Genome Project. He spent the last 15 years raising rotationally grazed pastured pork on his farm in upstate New York while running a butcher shop, local food restaurant and USDA inspected meat processing facility. During our discussion, you'll discover: - Brad's background in molecular biology and cooking...8:00 - The production Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) – and the ROS theory of obesity...18:43 - Unsaturated fats vs saturated fats in connection to ROS production and satiety...34:25 -What does all of this have to do with croissants?...44:45 -The Croissant Diet – getting specific...58:25 - Should we worry about endotoxemia with a diet high in saturated fats?...1:03:45 -The Wine Diet...1:09:30 bengreenfieldfitness.com/croissantdietSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What Really Makes You Ill? Why Everything You Thought You Knew About Disease Is Wrong.

What Really Makes You Ill? Why Everything You Thought You Knew About Disease Is Wrong is a massive book that I just finished (and briefly alluded to in my post Why I’m Not Afraid Of The Coronavirus (& A New, Controversial View On Viruses In General). This highly controversial book will explain what really makes you ill and why everything you thought you knew about disease is wrong, based on Voltaire's quote that: "Doctors are men who prescribe medicines of which they know little, to cure diseases of which they know less, in human beings of whom they know nothing." The book reminds me of my recent interview Why Viruses Are Crucial To Life On This Planet, The Link Between Air Pollution, Glyphosate & Pandemics, Loss Of Biodiversity (& What We Can Do About It) & More With Dr. Zach Bush. The authors argue that the conventional approach adopted by most healthcare systems entails the use of ‘medicine’ to treat human disease. The idea, encapsulated by the above quote attributed to Voltaire, the nom de plume of François-Marie Arouet (1694-1778), will no doubt be regarded by most people as inapplicable to 21st century healthcare, especially the system known as modern medicine. The reason that people would consider this idea to no longer be relevant is likely to be based on the assumption that ‘medical science’ has made significant advances since the 18th century and that 21st century doctors therefore possess a thorough, if not quite complete, knowledge of medicines, diseases and the human body. Unfortunately, however, this would be a mistaken assumption; as this book will demonstrate. Dawn Lester and David Parker are my guests on today's show, and they are the authors of What Really Makes You Ill?. They have backgrounds in the fields of Accountancy and Electrical Engineering, respectively. These fields both require an aptitude for logic, which proved extremely useful for their investigation that has involved more than ten years continuous research to find answers to the question: what really makes people ill? A popular saying, which is often attributed to Albert Einstein, claims that problems cannot be solved by using the same way of thinking that created them. The concept underlying this saying can be extrapolated to indicate that a problem can often be better understood by people outside of the discipline in which it occurs because they are not bound by any dogma or biases inherent within that discipline. The authors’ investigation of why people become ill was conducted from a different perspective from that of the medical establishment; it was therefore free from the dogma and biases inherent within ‘medical science’. This unbiased and logical approach enabled them to follow the evidence with open minds and led them to discover the flaws within the information about illness and disease that is promulgated by the medical establishment. The results of their investigation are revealed within their book, and we explore those results on today's show. During this discussion, you'll discover: -Why an accountant and engineer decided to write a book about health and disease...7:03 -Why David and Dawn's non-medical backgrounds were an asset to their research...14:15 -Why AIDS is rampant in Africa without drugs and antibiotics that cause it...21:10 -What we can learn from the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic today...35:30 -The dangers of chlorine...46:00 -Giant rocks in space related to shifts in world health...49:30 -What causes disease (if it's not a virus)...57:05 -How David and Dawn have altered their diets since writing their book...1:01:00 -How to naturally battle health issues in our internal and external environments...1:05:30 -David's top health tips...1:11:45See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Problem With Mineral Supplements, Why Minerals Don't Get Absorbed, Why You Probably Have A Mineral Deficiency & What To Do About It.

bengreenfieldfitness.com/mineralspodcast My guest on this podcast is Barton Scott, who is a chemical engineer, nutritionist, and the founder of Upgraded Formulas, a wellness nanotech company for performance and longevity, with a focus on correcting mineral deficiency. Barton pioneered a new category of supplementation to increase health span, focus, blood sugar management, reduce the impact of chronic health issues, and improve sleep quality. As a young chemical engineer who always had sharp cognitive function, Barton began to suffer memory loss and mental fatigue. How could this be, at such an early age? To make matters worse, tragedy struck at the same time, when he unfortunately lost his mother. After taking many supplements during this time frame, nothing was working. Faced with adversity and looming health issues, this is when he decided that he must pursue solutions. He grew frustrated with how mineral supplements lacked effectiveness and absorption into the body, rendering most products in the market useless. He set out to fix the problem, and using his background in Chemical Engineering and experience as a nutritionist, he was able to identify the issues with the current offerings and applied a solution based on sound science. Through research, and many trials and errors, he realized if you can get mineral particles small enough to absorb into our cells, that was going to be the winning formula for effectiveness. That's where he applied nano minerals to his formulations and developed a solution that supposedly makes the minerals up to 99.9% bioavailable for measurable absorption. It was then that he set out to create what today is Upgraded Formulas, founded with with maximum bioavailability and measurable absorption to ensure you are getting results. In addition, he created a hair testing kit that identifies mineral deficiencies and verifies the products work, along with identifying heavy metal toxicity. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How sports and endurance events totally deplete the body of nutrients and minerals...6:20 -Why vitamins are of no use without minerals...12:55 -The best way to avoid mineral deficiency...18:15 -Why the electron driving force and size of individual cells is important for absorption of minerals...29:25 -How a hair analysis reveals your mineral levels and certain lifestyle factors...37:20 -The most common mineral deficiencies, and how to replenish them...48:05 -The best way to ingest Barton's nano mineral products...59:50 Episode sponsors: Kion Immune, Organifi Green Juice, Beekeeper's Naturals, Water and Wellness See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Is Charcoal Toothpaste OK, 8 Crucial Mouth Beauty & Oral Health Tips, Peptides For Oral Care, The Invisible Dental Flow In Your Mouth & Much More With Nadine Artemis.

bengreenfieldfitness.com/nadine I recently read two excellent beauty, wellness and self-care books: one focused on overall beauty, and the other on oral care and holistic dentistry. The author of these books is Nadine Artemis, who is also my guest on today's podcast. Her first book that I read is titled "Holistic Dental Care: The Complete Guide to Healthy Teeth and Gums". A comprehensive guide to natural, do-it-yourself oral care, Holistic Dental Care introduces simple, at-home dental procedures that anyone can do. Highlighted with fifty-three full-color photos and illustrations, this book offers dental self-care strategies and practices that get to the core of the problems in our mouths--preventing issues from taking root and gently restoring dental health. Based on a "whole body approach" to oral care, Holistic Dental Care addresses the limits of the traditional approach that treats only the symptoms and not the source of body imbalances. Taking readers on a tour of the ecology of the mouth, dental health expert and author Nadine,, describes the physiology of the teeth and the sources of bacteria and decay. Revealing the truth about the artificial chemicals in many toothpastes and mouthwashes, Artemis also discusses the harmful effects of mercury fillings and the much safer ceramic filling options that are available. Covering topics that include healthy nutrition, oral care for children, and the benefits of botanical substances and plant extracts for maintaining oral health, Artemis introduces a comprehensive eight-step self-dentistry protocol that offers an effective way to prevent decay, illness, acidic saliva, plaque build-up, gum bleeding, inflammation, and more. Modafinil: Is This Wildly Popular Smart Drug Safe And Effective? (& What It Can Do For Your Sleep Cycles & Brain Health).

bengreenfieldfitness.com/modafinil Modafinil (also known as "Provigil"). It's the darling of the smart drug industry, and has been for quite some time. With over 200 human clinical studies in the past 10 years, it is reported to have few to no side effects, to not be addictive and to not be excessively stimulating. It's used by notable figures like Joe Rogan, Ray Kurzweil, Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, Tim Ferriss and many others. It's the entire inspiration behind the smart drug movie Limitless with Bradley Cooper. It may increase resistance to fatigue and improve mood, reaction time and vigilance, while simultaneously reducing bad decision making. Laboratory studies have even shown that it may have potent antioxidative and neuroprotective effects. Modafinil is also of a high interest to the US military for enhancing alertness and reducing battle fatigue. Acute modafinil ingestion significantly increases exercise time to exhaustion. So what could go wrong? Is this stuff too good to be true? Surely there must be some dark biological side of this supposed super smart drug. In today's podcast, I host a guest who knows more about the science of modafinil than anyone I'm aware of, and who, conveniently, happens to live just a few miles from my house: Dr. Jonathan Wisor. Age-Reversal Tips: You Can Be Younger (How To Use The Power Of Your Mind to Look & Feel 10 Years Younger).

The way we look and feel has very little to do with our chronological age, and my guest on today's podcast believes that positive thinking and changing your belief system are the most important factors in staying truly young. In her book, You Can Be Younger, leading therapist Marisa Peer explains how you can arrest the ageing process by harnessing the power of your subconscious mind. By changing your thinking, you can change your body and become physically and mentally at least ten years younger. She also discusses how to retrain your mind so you can stay young and vibrant, how to implement cell regeneration therapy to counteract the ageing process, and how to boost energy and visibly improve your skin's appearance. There are few speakers today that have the wide experience and stellar reputation of Marisa Peer. Named ‘Britain’s Best Therapist’ by Tatler magazine, Marisa has spent over three decades treating a client list that includes international superstars, CEOs, royalty, and Olympic athletes. Training early in her career as a child psychologist, Marisa later earned further qualifications from the Hypnosis Training Institute of Los Angeles and the Pritikin Longevity Centre.
