Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Augsburg vs Bayern Munich (Hinrunde)

The international break is finally over, and we are back in Bundesliga business. Bayern Munich face Augsburg this weekend, with many key players coming off of some stellar performances for their countries. Yes, Augsburg haven’t been great so far this season, but they do have the tools to frustrate Bayern, and their compact defensive block could be difficult to break down. However, with the Bayern boys in free scoring form, here’s hoping that they can bag more goals while keeping a clean sheet against their Bavarian rivals. A tall order, but one that is certainly doable, considering the form and the depth of this squad. Here are the key points covered in the podcast:A recap of the international break and how Bayern players faredThe form of Bayern and Augsburg heading into the fixtureBayern Munich’s injury situationKey players and predicted lineupsA final scoreline predictionAs always, thanks for your support and let us know what you think!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich’s 5-2 victory over Benfica in the Champions League

Bayern Munich picked up a 5-2 win over Benfica in the Champions League in match that easily could have been a four or five goal margin of victory in favor of the Bavarians. Benfica came out swinging early, but punched itself and let Bayern Munich right back into the match. The second half was entirely dominated by the Bavarians as well. Here is what we have on tap: Julian Nagelsmann’s line-up was wild. Granted, Lucas Hernandez and Niklas Süle were injury, but I did not foresee Tanguy Nianzou getting the call, three wingers (Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, and Leroy Sane), Thomas Müller on the bench, and no Jamal Musiala. Bayern Munich’s strong first half that ended on a disappointing note with Benfica’s goal and Robert Lewandowski’s missed penalty. The strong start to the second half that paved the way to victory. Bavarian Podcast Works S4E13: Bayern Munich’s bounce back weekend; The Bundesliga’s craziness; Favorite Halloween candy; and MORE!

Welcome to a spooky edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Flagship Show, which was recorded on Halloween. Here is what we had on tap for this episode: A look at what was really important for fans to see from Bayern Munich when they squared off against Union Berlin. The results in the Bundesliga this weekend and who at teams are surprising us. Just a few guesses at what some Bayern Munich players might dress up as for Halloween. I had to check myself before I wrecked myself and only name a few so I did not have anyone hunting me down. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs. Benfica (Champions League)

Bayern Munich traveled to Portugal, the scene of their UEFA Champions League victory in 2020, to take on Benfica in the previous match-day; they beat the Portuguese side, 0 — 4. The goals came really late in that match with the inspiration being Leroy Sané.Since then, a lot has unfolded; Bayern were taken apart by Borussia Mönchengladbach in the DFB Pokal. The defeat, a record defeat for the Bavarians, 5-0, revealed weaknesses in Julian Nagelsmann’s side, including the inability to play around an incessant press. While that game was a one-off, the back-line did not look too solid against Union Berlin either. Where Bayern goes from here remains to be seen, although goal scoring does not seem to be a problem.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich’s exciting 5-2 victory over Union Berlin

Wow, that was enough action to last 3 games. Bayern Munich’s game against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga was nothing short of a spectacle. This is what football fans flock to stadiums for. This was certainly a treat for the football neutral and a big win for the Bundesliga. The Bavarians came out all guns blazing in what was a statement win after the shambolic loss against Mönchengladbach in midweek. This should be a huge morale boost for the team and should help in steadying Nagelsmann’s ship, which has faced some turbulent tides lately. There were a lot of points to talk about, considering the end-to-end, nail-biting nature of this game. Here are some of the major points covered in the pod: Union’s amazing gameplan and resilient, gritty style of playRobert Lewandowski the phenomenonThomas Müller propaganda, and why he’s the best in his positionBayern’s issues in defense, specifically the right side. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich’s embarrassing 5-0 loss to Gladbach in the DFB-Pokal

Bayern Munich came out flat and paid for it dearly as it has suffered yet another second round exit from the DFB-Pokal.Somehow, this is more painful than losing to Holstein Kiel on penalties. It is...I swear. A curious lineup and a lethargic mentality led to Bayern Munich being absolutely blitzed by Borussia Mönchengladbach in a 5-0 defeat. Bayern Munich never looked like it was fully invested in making it a game. Here is what we have on tap (not taps...like the song): Bayern Munich’s backline was absolutely dreadful in every respect.Bayern Munich’s offense looked confused and frustrated. How does a team so talented come out so flat?Everybody has a plan until you get punched in the face. The DFB Pokal is back, and Bayern Munich have a nightmare opponent in store. For the third time this season, Julian Nagelsmann must face Adi Hutter’s Borussia Monchengladbach — a team which he has yet to beat in any meaningful way. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Bayern Munich beats Hoffenheim 4-0; remains top of the Bundesliga

Bayern Munich danced their way past Hoffenheim in a fantastic performance; the game was over by the end of the first half as Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski had scored by that time to give Bayern a 2-0 lead. Gnabry has been having a very productive season to date, scoring at a high rate. Lewandowski’s was a screamer which came courtesy of Thomas Müller outmuscling Christopher Richards off the ball and setting up the Polish striker. In the second half, goals from substitutes Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Kingsley Coman wrapped up the performance. Choupo-Moting is a deft finisher and tends to always scores these days when he comes on a sub. Coman’s goal was beautifully set up by Dayot Upamecano with a long range pass from the back.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. After the 4-0 win over Benfica in midweek, Bayern Munich are (figuratively) top of the world. Therefore, as is the way of the world, Hoffenheim are lurking just around the corner to bring the Bavarians crashing back down to earth. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Bayern beats direct title rivals Bayer Leverkusen 1 - 5

Bayern Munich taught Bayer Leverkusen a lesson in compact, beautiful one-touch football by slotting five goals past them in the first half. Robert Lewandowski got the party started early on in the first half after Bayer Leverkusen’s back-line left Dayot Upamecano open to set up Bayern’s #9. Bayern had to defend quite a bit afterward as Leverkusen went searching for an equalizer. However, Bayern’s back-line would not be breached and remained compact, dealing with the likes of Florian Wirtz, Patrick Schick and Moussa Diaby easily. There were many star performers in the first half for Bayern but Joshua Kimmich, for the first time in a while, had a fantastic game. He has been solid this season but today showed what Kimmich, a ball-playing, holding midfielder, can do at full strength. Alphonso Davies started and did incredibly well; Leverkusen could not deal with him. Bayern’s goals came courtesy of Robert Lewandowski (2), Thomas Müller and Serge Gnabry (2). Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Germany beats North Macedonia 0-4

If there was ever going to be a barometer to measure if Hansi Flick’s Germany is indeed better than Joachim Löw’s Germany, it would be this. Under their former manager, Germany had lost to North Macedonia (albeit a North Macedonia with Goran Pandev); that loss was Germany’s first in roughly two decades in a World Cup qualifier. The opposition was the same today and as long as Romania was able to beat Armenia, what was at the stake for Germany was World Cup qualification for Qatar 2022.Hansi Flick made some notable changes. As Antonio Rüdiger was absent due to injury, he inserted Thilo Kehrer into the heart of the defense next to Niklas Süle, played David Raum in the left-back slot and replaced Jonas Hofmann with Lukas Klostermann for the right back slot. He also left out Leroy Sané in favor of Kai Havertz for this one.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Germany vs North Macedonia (World Cup Qualifiers)

Germany are heading into their second game of the international break. This time, they’ll be facing North Macedonia, who haven’t exactly been easy opponents lately (the 2-1 loss comes to mind). Granted, they now have a coach who can actually make the right decisions and field the right players, but a lot hinges on the forwards being able to convert their chances. It is almost certain that Germany will go into this game pressing from the start, and we will so no dearth of Bayern players, with 8 players getting called up (with Neuer out, that leaves Flick with 7 top quality Bayern options). Let’s hope Germany can continue with their winning streak. Here are the talking points:Remembering Germany’s time under Loew and that sad loss to North MacedoniaA look at the two teams: main options, threats, etc.Defensive options, and who will get the nodThe Timo Werner situation, and who starts in attackOverall lineup and scoreline predictionLearn more about your ad choices. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Germany’s 2-1 win over Romania

Germany managed to scrape a win against an extremely well-drilled Romania side in what becomes the first problematic game of Hansi Flick’s short tenure. Starting with five Bayern Munich players in the lineup, the Germans went down early to a goal by Ianis Hagi and struggled to stamp their authority on the game. While Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller eventually brought home all three points, questions will be asked about the nature of this performance. Here are our talking points from the game:How Hansi Flick got his lineup and tactics completely wrong. Giving credit to Romania for a strong performance at the back. Why Timo Werner and Marco Reus should not be starting for Germany anymore — at least in the role they have currently. The problem with Germany’s fullbacks at the moment. Some lovely Thomas Muller propaganda, which we always love to hear. Some experiments Hansi Flick needs to make in the upcoming games. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Germany vs Romania (World Cup Qualifiers)

With the international break now upon us, it’s time to shift our focus from Bayern Munich to Germany. Hansi Flick has made a winning start to life as Germany coach, and will want to continue gaining momentum in the buildup to next year’s world cup. However, there’s a lot of things to do and not much time to do it — he’ll have to be quick about his work. This October international break is the last one for a long time. Here are the talking points before the game:Admitting the shameful fact that I know nothing about Romania. How Hansi Flick might line up the team — formation, players, and so on. The Timo Werner issue, and how Flick may be planning to revive him. The midfield rotation problem — technically not a problem for Germany, but a headache for Bayern fans. Potential options in defense. Could Niklas Sule be moved to right-back? Or will it be Jonas Hofmann?Who will play left-back for Germany? How about ... Leroy Sane? Bavarian Podcast Works S4E9: Hating on the back-three, can Bayern Munich be challenged, Germany’s predicted XI, and more!

Bayern Munich have completed another week of football without any major incidents, well at least if you don’t include the loss to Eintracht Frankfurt. Now, as club football enters another international break, we here at Bavarian Podcast Works take a look at some promised talking points from the last seven days. Full disclosure: this episode was recorded before the Bayern v Frankfurt game, so it doesn’t take that into account. In this episode, Ineednoname and Samrin discuss:The three-man backline, and why both hate it. Addressing the classic “Chelsea use it, why can’t Bayern” argument, and why it doesn’t apply. Why Benjamin Pavard is a problem (new arguments this time!!!). Have Julian Nagelsmann’s Bayern Munich been challenged yet? Small tangent on goalkeepers, including Manuel Neuer, Gregor Kobel, and ter Stegen. Who could pose a decent threat to this team. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Bayern Munich loses 1-2 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt

Bayern Munich perhaps could have had more and should have had more. Kevin Trapp, as opposition keepers tend to when they play Bayern, had a wonderful game and perhaps will go down as man of the match. Manuel Neuer was no slouch either, helping in build up play, coming to almost the halfway line to stop Frankfurt’s breakaways.Bayern had more shots (by far) and more possession; Leroy Sané had a good game and put in plenty of effort but could not find the back of the net. Robert Lewandowski was very quiet, marked out of the game. His opposite number in Frankfurt, Rafael Santos Borré was isolated and basically also marked out of the game.Bayern’s first goal came courtesy of an error by Marin Hinteregger; his pass would deflect off a Bayern player and find its way to Leon Goretzka who would score his first Bundesliga goal of the season. Hinteregger himself would equalize from a corner. Very late on in the game, Filip Kostic would score the winner to hand Frankfurt a first league win of the season.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bayern Munich is looking unstoppable, and grabbed yet another lopsided victory against Ukrainian champions Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League. Nagelsmann has made all the right moves thus far, and this team looks really formidable and is certainly a treble contender. Bavarian Podcast Works S4E8: Is Benjamin Pavard good enough for Bayern Munich, Niklas Sule’s leaked chats, the Werner debacle, and more!

Bayern Munich have completed another week of football which saw the team beat SpVgg Greuther Furth 3-1 (and nothing else, because the Bundesliga schedule isn’t hell-bent on murdering players). There were some interesting stories which broke during the week, including a series of leaked messages involving Niklas Sule and his agent, plus the news that Timo Werner WAS indeed supposed to join the Bavarians at some point. Plenty to talk about. In this episode, Ineednoname and Schnitzel01 discuss:Mandatory pre-pod Arsenal banter. Is Benjamin Pavard good enough for Bayern Munich? What are the alternatives to playing him? What Niklas Sule’s leaked WhatsApp messages mean for his standing within the club. Bullying Sule for his choice of clubs in the Premier League (Tottenham? It’s been a tough week of games following the end of the international break, but Julian Nagelsmann and Bayern Munich have navigated them brilliantly. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich victory over VfL Bochum

Bayern Munich scored seven goals on a gorgeous day in Munich (finally, a home game!), showcasing their talents out there and just having fun! The score at half time was 4-0 thanks to goals from Leroy Sané, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and an own goal. The score-line gave Julian Nagelsmann the chance to rest Alphonso Davies and bring on Richards for his debut.Bayern added a fifth from Robert Lewandowski, a sixth from Joshua Kimmich and a seventh from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting; Choupo’s goal was his 50th goal of his Bundesliga career, a milestone.Marcel Sabitzer and Bouna Sarr also got minutes on the pitch; Sabitzer hopefully might get a start against Greuther Fürth but, perhaps, Nagelsmann didn’t feel he was ready yet.Thomas Müller seemed to have scored an eighth; unfortunately, the goal wouldn’t stand because of VAR. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over FC Barcelona

The Champions League is underway and Bayern Munich have started their campaign with a big win. Barcelona may not be what it used to be, but this 3-0 was more comfortable than most would’ve expected, given the fact that the game was played away at the Camp Nou, and Bayern had a grueling schedule coming into this one. Still, Nagelsmann’s boys dispatched their Catalan counterparts with relative ease, recording a precious clean sheet as well. Here are our talking points from the game:Dayot Upamecano and how Nagelsmann made the defense impregnable. How Nagelsmann made adjustments to counter Koeman’s 3-5-2.Analyzing how Bayern maintained the intensity while playing through fatigue. Why Jamal Musiala had an extremely tough time vs the Catalans. How Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller seem underutilized by Nagelsmann so far.Bayern’s midfielders had a bad time against Barca’s 3-5-2, and why Nagelsmann shares the blame.Barcelona fans are more than justified in their dislike of Ronald Koeman — his tactics were way too negative and he doesn’t seem to have a vision for the team.As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Barcelona vs Bayern Munich

Having just won a grueling game against RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich immediately travel to Spain to kick off their Champions League campaign against Barcelona. This is a very different Barca side from the one Bayern beat 8-2 last year. Leo Messi and Luis Suarez are no longer on the team, replaced by Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong (more on him later). Here are our talking point ahead of the game:A basic rundown of Barcelona for a La Liga novice. How Koeman may line up his team in a 3-5-2 including which Barca players are fit/injured. Pros and cons of the 3-5-2. Discussing the threat of Memphis Depay. What a Barcelona team with a 4-2-3-1 can look like. How injuries could derail Bayern in this crucial game at the start of the season. Samrin exposing her opinions by saying Luuk de Jong is Barca’s most dangerous player (what???). A more sane pick for Barca’s potential dangerman.
