Well, the bombshell dropped. Since our last podcast, Robert Lewandowski has officially confirmed that he wants to leave Bayern Munich this summer. He was gracious enough to hop in when another scheduling issue threatened to delay this episode further. In this episode, INNN and Teddy discuss:Does the Bayern Munich board deserve blame for this Lewandowski mess? How the board has conducted self-sabotage in major contract negotiations since 2019.How the board forgot the human aspect of negotiations.Defending Hasan Salihamidzic and (some of) his work for the club. The strange vibes of Herbert Hainer and Oliver Kahn — too corporate for Bayern Munich? Why Lewandowski’s ugly contract saga leaves a bad taste in the mouth.Discussing alternatives: Does Stuttgart’s Sasa Kalajdzic make sense as a Lewy successor?Should Bayern Munich sell Lewandowski now, or keep him and lose him for free?As always, thanks for your support and let us know what you think!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Simply put, this game means everything for VfB Stuttgart and absolutely nothing for the Ibiza Bunch...err, Bayern Munich.I kid, I kid.I could not care any less about the Ibiza trip, but the Bavarians will have to play much better — and will need to show more life — than they did last week. Bavarian Podcast Works S4E30: Options to replace Lewandowski and why they all suck, Nagelsmann’s Bayern vs Flick’s 2nd season, technical difficulties, and more!

It’s been a while since we’ve been able to record one of these, but the Bavarian Podcast Works main show is back! In the time since we last recorded one main episode, Bayern Munich have been knocked out of the Champions League by Villarreal, won the league for the 10th straight time in a row, and all anyone can talk about is the fact that Robert Lewandowski might be leaving the club this summer. So, I guess that’s fun?In this episode, Tom and INNN discuss:The Robert Lewandowski saga — the key numbers, mainly salary and contract length. What is really going on behind the scenes?Options to replace Lewandowski (Haaland, Haller, Lukaku, etc.) and why they don’t make sense.Addressing the Cristiano Ronaldo rumors specifically (because why not?) and why Ronaldo’s situation is actually very relevant to the current Lewy debate. Why Lewandowski probably doesn’t want to leave Bayern just yet.Switching gears to the season retrospective — how does Nagelsmann’s first season stack up against Hansi Flick’s second season? It had to be a shorter podcast this week because we had a lot of connection issues and you might hear some weird audio glitches as well. Sorry about that.As always, thanks for your support and let us know what you think!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Mainz 3-1 Bayern Munich (Ruckrunde)

Sometimes, that post-title hangover can hit a team hard. Bayern Munich were sleepwalking on the pitch against Mainz today and paid dearly for it, although the scoreline is nowhere near as bad as it could’ve been. Even allowing for the fact that team captain Manuel Neuer and vice captain Thomas Muller did not start in the XI, this was an unacceptably poor performance from Bayern, characterized by a strong lack of effort and leadership. Unfortunately, since the game comes after we’ve already won the title, it doesn’t make sense to overanalyze every single thing. Here are our talking points from the game:How Julian Nagelsmann didn’t go far enough with experimenting with the lineup. Why Alphonso Davies’ positioning in the hybrid back-three/four system compromises his defending.Marcel Sabitzer may have sealed his future with this game.Bayern Munich’s mentality problem under Nagelsmann — an inability to deal with adversity. As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker (Rückrunde)

It is almost as if the Bundesliga scripted the season to reach this point: Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena. Should the Bavarians win, they’ll wrap up a 10th consecutive league crown.Even with a draw, Bayern Munich would be in a prime spot to win the league barring a blockbuster collapse given that Dortmund would need to win the rest of the matches, hope for the Bavarians to lose the rest of their matches — and make up a pretty massive goal differential in the process. This is what we have on tap for this episode:A look at where each club resides in the the table (Hint: The top).A glance at the form and recent storylines surrounding each team.A guess at Julian Nagelsmann’s lineup.A prediction on the match. As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Bayern Munich 1-1 Villarreal; Bayern loses on aggregate (Champions League)

Bayern Munich unthinkably played to a 1-1 draw with Villarreal, which put the Spanish club through to the Champions League semifinals and sent the Bavarians packing from European play for the season. There is a lot to unload from this match, so let’s get right to it. Here is what we have on tap for this episode:The starting XI featuring a back-three was probably the best call for Julian Nagelsmann to get things started — it worked in terms of putting Villarreal on its heels and applying massive amounts of pressure.Despite all that, Bayern Munich came away emptyhanded in the first half. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Villarreal 1-0 Bayern Munich (Champions League QF)

Bayern Munich succumbed to a surprise defeat to Villarreal CF in a game which honestly could’ve seen the tie decided then and there. Julian Nagelsmann was out-coached and his players were out-played as the Spaniards ran rampant over a Bavarian side who looked decidedly second best. Lots of things to think about for the fanbase, the media, the players, and especially the coach. We did not expect this to happen. Here are our talking points from the game:Did Julian Nagelsmann get the lineup wrong? Should Alphonso Davies have started? What about Goretzka and Gnabry?Goal breakdown — what happened during the goal we conceded and who is at fault for it?The problems with Bayern Munich’s record-breaking offense. Why is Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller so isolated?Problems linking defense and offense. Why subbing off Thomas Muller is a symptom of what is wrong with Bayern’s attacking gameplan. How should we set up to win the game at the Allianz Arena?Who deserves the majority of the blame for this defeat — the players or the coach? As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Netherlands 1-1 Germany (Review)

It was an international friendly but it didn’t feel like it at times as Germany faced the Netherlands on their home turf in Amsterdam. Two former Bayern Munich coaches went head to head and ended up sharing spoils and both teams came out of the match with pros and cons to consider. Unlike with the Israel match, there was plenty to discuss this time. Here are our talking points from the game:Hansi Flick surprises everyone by not going with a back-three after using it against Israel. How GOOD is Jamal Musiala? Just a loooong monologue on the amazing qualities of Germany’s golden boy.Should Musiala displace Leon Goretzka from the starting XI? A question for both Bayern and Germany.Reviewing the rest of the good performances — Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller, Timo Werner, and Nico Schlotterbeck. Now looking at the bad — Florian Neuhaus, Julian Draxler, and Julian Brandt. Yikes. Why Germany is nowhere near as deep as France and Hansi Flick should change up his selection decisions.Changes that Hansi can make to the lineup for the Nations League, potentially putting Niklas Sule at right-back.David Raum didn’t look anywhere near as hot as he did against Israel — who will be the starting LB at Qatar? As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works S4E28: Is Hansi Flick copying Nagelsmann’s setup, previewing Netherlands vs Germany, is Mazraoui worth the money, and more!

We’re halfway done with the international break and there’s not much for Bayern Munich fans to talk about at the moment. Good thing Germany exists, or we’d have to cancel this podcast. Hansi Flick just beat Israel 2-0 with a bunch of fringe players on the National Team, and with it being a World Cup year and the Netherlands game left to play, there’s a lot to talk about. Of course, there were some transfer rumors too.In this episode, Tom and Ineednoname discuss:Germany’s weird setup against Israel. How individual players performed, especially guys like Havertz, Werner, Musiala, Raum, and Schlotterbeck.Did Hansi Flick copy Julian Nagelsmann back-three style setup with Germany? How will Hansi Flick line up the defense in Qatar? Who plays at right-back? Does Hansi have a problem with Baku? What kind of a setup will we see for the Netherlands game? Should Julian Weigl keep playing for Germany? Is Noussair Mazraoui worth the money Bayern are offering?Bayern Munich’s newfound relationship with Raiola and how that affects transfers going forward. Why Matthias Ginter doesn’t seem like a serious target for Bayern. How Mazraoui would be used by Nagelsmann. As always, thanks for your support and let us know what you think!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. After Bayern Munich trounced Union Berlin 4-0 last weekend, the squad headed off for an international break. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Bayern Munich 4-0 Union Berlin (Ruckrunde)

Make no mistake - Union Berlin are among the most defensively solid sides in the Bundesliga. In fact, they were ranked 4th best among all BuLi sides in the defensive aspects of football heading into this tie. Bayern Munich had other ideas.Nagelsmann’s choices seemed near-perfect in what was an absolute tactical masterclass and a dominant performance from the Bavarians. Here are the talking points from the game:Union Berlin’s style of play, and how Nagelsmann countered itNianzou with a great performance... Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Hoffenheim 1-1 Bayern Munich (Ruckrunde)

After a midweek break against RB Salzburg, the negative vibes are back as Bayern Munich have once again drawn a Bundesliga game. Just like last time, this game against Hoffenheim was a nightmare in terms of finishing for both sides — Thomas Muller was offside twice, Gnabry hit the post, Manuel Neuer made some great saves, and Robert Lewandowski is the only one who scored. Wingers are not wingbacks!Musiala is not playing the Thiago role, so what is he supposed to be doing? The problem with the midfield in terms of structure.Kingsley Coman remains one of our most important players. The absolute nightmare Thomas Muller had in terms of finishing. The massive xG problem Nagelsmann has — will this be acceptable in Europe?Once again, Nagelsmann gets his substitutions wrong. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Rant — Bayern Munich 1-1 Bayer Leverkusen (Sad but not explicit)

Well that wasn’t great. Bayern Munich just drew 1-1 against Bayer Leverkusen in a game that honestly could’ve been a loss if not for some awful finishing. Bavarian Podcast Works S4E25: Discussing the Eintracht win, analyzing possible defense options, looking at pending contract extensions, and more!

It’s going to be another long week without any midweek fixtures, but it sure is good to see Bayern Munich back to winning in dominant fashion. If you had asked me if I thought Bayern were capable of coming out of an Eintracht Frankfurt away game with a victory and a clean sheet, I would’ve scoffed at the thought 2 weeks ago. But now that it has happened, this team sure looks like they can grind out the wins again. However, looking at the not-so-distant future, there are quite a few things the club needs to sort out: impending contract extensions, signing defensive reinforcements, analyzing the future of the Bayern midfield, and managing campus talents. This podcast would be covering these topics, with a few more bits and pieces added to give Take-home points from the Eintracht gameDefensive situation and potential targets for the summerContract extensions and the “big 3”The curious case of chef Gnabry (who has been starving us for a while)Sabitzer’s performances, and areas where he must improveMusiala and Wanner and their future at the clubThe injury situation and players on the verge of a returnLearn more about your ad choices. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Eintracht Frankfurt 0-1 Bayern Munich (Ruckrunde)

Bayern Munich have finally played a good game! Shockingly, the performance came against Eintracht Frankfurt away, a fixture which has given the Bavarians some significant issues in the past. With multiple players including Thomas Muller still out, this could’ve been a chance for the Eagles to smash and grab three points from the Rekordmeister. Bayern didn’t let that happen though, and even managed to get a clean sheet for their efforts. Here are our talking points from the game:What was the formation Nagelsmann used today? Was it a 4-2-3-1 or something else? The paradoxical nature of the defense — setup vs performance.A full midfield review, including Joshua Kimmich’s great game and a potential future between him and Musiala in a pivot. So it turns out you don’t need 20 attackers to create chances. Who knew?Robert Lewandowski’s role compared to usual. How Julian Nagelsmann can build on this performance in the coming games. Why an unglamorous win was a step in the right direction for Bayern Munich. As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Bayern Munich 4-1 Greuther Fürth (Ruckrunde)

Some much needed positivity is back in the Bayern camp and here on our podcast! Bayern Munich dismantled Greuther Furth with a dominant 4-1 victory that featured a brilliant second-half performance and a gameplan that Nagelsmann should stick to for prolonged success. The substitutions and the tactics in this game were spot on, and it showed on the scoresheet.Robert Lewandowski had another brace, which is just the same as saying “bread is bread and cheese is cheese”, Jose Mourinho style. In other words, just another routine game for the Pole, who continues to cement himself at the very top of football’s annals. The defense was also very solid, with Süle having a great showing, Upamecano and Pavard having something of a redemption arc starting to materialize, Hernandez being his usual solid self and Omar Richards looking very bright. So yeah, loads of talking points, and the podcast features quite a few of them:The starting lineups and the formations of both teamsThe tactical changes brought in by NagelsmannThe game in the first half and the dire need for changes and substitutionsThe setup in the second halfA tactical masterclass, and Gnabry being not so terrible for once (!!!!)A look at the performances of Sabitzer and RichardsLooking aheadLearn more about your ad choices.
