Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — RB Salzburg 1-1 Bayern Munich (Champions League Ro16)

After the devastating defeat to VfL Bochum, Bayern Munich have failed to bounce back by slumping to a disappointing 1-1 draw against RB Salzburg. Matthias Jassile and his men will actually rue the chances they missed as Bayern failed to mount any kind of pressure and only scored thanks to a moment of brilliance from Benjamin Pavard and Thomas Muller. With things looking dire on the pitch, coach Julian Nagelsmann has some tough questions to answer. Here are our talking points from the game:Is Julian Nagelsmann a fraud? Let’s examine that. The return of the back three and why that sucks. A quick review of each defender — Lucas’s masterclass, and Niklas Sule is probably in BVB already. Why doesn’t Omar Richards get chances? Why doesn’t Nagelsmann keep it simple? Once again, Serge Gnabry was terrible. Should we sell him? The problem with the offense, how Leroy Sane’s positioning affects Thomas Muller and that causes issues elsewhere. Robert Lewandowski is isolated — why???Can Bayern hope to defeat Manchester City or Liverpool playing like this? Benjamin Pavard’s offensive duties and why he’s overextended. YOUR opinion: Comment on what’s going on with Bayern right now. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs RB Salzburg (Champions League Ro16)

The Chaaaaaaaampionnnnssssssss!!!!! Yes, the UCL is back, and I can already hear the anthem. Bayern Munich is going to face a talented RB Salzburg side, and unless the lineup is legit, it is going to get exposed by Salzburg’s attack, which features players Bayern has been linked to in the past - Karim Adeyemi and Brenden Aaronson. With Goretzka, Neuer, Davies, and Musiala all out, Nagelsmann definitely faces a tricky challenge and needs to make the right choices in both defense and midfield to churn out a victory. The game against Bochum was one to forget, and consolidating a spot in the top 8 of the UCL with a dominant, resounding victory against Salzburg in the first leg could do a lot to make amends and help us quickly forget that disaster class. The stage has been set. We roll. Here are the main talking points of the podcast:Salzburg’s form heading into the gameNagelsmann’s tactics, formation, and what needs tweakingA look at some of the talented Salzburg players and potential game-changersThe defensive conundrum, and possible picks for selectionBayern lineup predictionsSome Gnabry and Upamecano criticismA final scoreline predictionLearn more about your ad choices. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame RANT — VfL Bochum 4-2 Bayern Munich (Explicit)

E

Thank god that’s over. Bayern Munich just got hammered by VfL Bochum in what was probably one of the worst performances from the season. Naturally this has the fanbase feeling rather upset, so here’s a postgame show that’s more of a rant than our usual standard fare. Please bear with us.Here are the talking points from the game:Talking about everything that went wrong with the lineup — this weird 4-1-4-1 with one midfielder. The massive problem that is Dayot Upamecano and the Bayern defense.A recap on the virtues of Alphonso Davies and why Nagelsmann desperately misses him.Why a one-man midfield was a bad idea (featuring Captain Obvious). How Nagelsmann has isolated Robert Lewandowski and neutered Bayern’s attack. Why the pressing has gotten so much worse under Nagelsmann. Why I am not actually hating on the coach. The problem with experimentation and unpredictability in the Champions League. Why is Nagelsmann not giving chances to younger players? As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs. VfL Bochum (Rückrunde)

Bayern Munich has had an absolutely wild week off-the-pitch and things were even complicated with the team’s health as Jamal Musiala tested positive for COVID-19, while Sven Ulreich had a scare — before testing negative. There are certainly enough reasons for the squad to be distracted against VfL Bochum, so Julian Nagelsmann will be tested. Can the manager keep his players focused on the task at hand (VfL Bochum)? Or, will the team be distracted by the transfer drama surrounding Niklas Süle, next Wednesday’s Champions League showdown with Red Bull Salzburg, or the creeping thoughts about missing players like Manuel Neuer and Jamal Musiala?Regardless, this is what we have on tap:A look at the recent form of each team.A chance for players like Sven Ulreich and potentially Paul Wanner to shine.A prediction on the match. As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works — Reaction show: Bayern Munich’s Niklas Süle moves to Borussia Dortmund

Wow...so the news finally dropped and Bayern Munich fans had to feel stunned that it became official: Niklas Süle is transferring to Bundesliga rival Borussia Dortmund during the summer transfer window.Join us as we react to the deal and how we feel like it all got to this point. At one point, Süle seemed fit to play the role of generational center-back for both Bayern Munich and Germany, but something went off the rails along the way. What led Süle to move to Borussia Dortmund — especially when his salary might be the same as he was offered at Bayern Munich? What happened to the rumored big pay days that were going to be on the way from clubs like Chelsea FC or Newcastle United? Most importantly, how did we get to this point, where the player who has arguably been the team’s best defender will leave for free?As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Bayern Munich 3-2 RB Leipzig (Ruckrunde)

Bayern Munich dispatched RB Leipzig with a 3-2 victory in front of 10,000 fans at the Allianz Arena. Julian Nagelsmann chose to start his team in the same back-three setup that got a resounding win against Hertha Berlin last month, but the results were a little more mixed this time round. Leipzig, as the most in-form team in 2022, gave Bayern a real scare multiple times in the game, managing to equalize twice before an own goal from Gvardiol eventually gave all three points to the home side. In this special two-person postgame analysis, Ineednoname and Schnitzel discuss:The lineup chosen by the coach, including a back-and-forth over the back three. The big problems with the defense at the moment — has Nagelsmann improved it at all? Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman as wingbacks, and whether that’s a good idea. The problem with ball progression and the attack at the moment. How many players have been extreme inconsistent this season. Why Nagelsmann doesn’t seem to want to sub players anymore. Bavarian Podcast Works: Weekend Warm-up Podcast Season 1, Episode 35 — The aftermath of the schism between Bayern Munich and Niklas Süle; Corentin Tolisso is too talented to be a back-up; Don’t discount Erling Haaland at Bayern just yet; and MORE!

There might not be a game for Bayern Munich this weekend, but it was an extremely eventful period nonetheless. The news was certainly not the best if you are a fan of Niklas Süle, so examining the fallout from his expected departure is right atop of this week’s agenda. This is what we have on tap for this episode:Niklas Sule’s upcoming exit and a walk through of the top candidates to replace him. Will it be Matthias de Ligt, Nico Schlotterbeck, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, or Matthias Ginter? While we were gone, Bayern Munich concluded the winter break and came back to a disastrous Covid-19 situation at the club. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — What’s left of Bayern Munich vs. Gladbach (Rückrunde)

We recorded this podcast working under the assumption that Bayern Munich will actually be facing off with Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga. Will it really happen? No one seems to know at this point, so we’re just going to proceed like normal (though absolutely nothing is normal in 2022 so far).Anyway, let’s take a quick look at what is on tap for this episode (and it would be shocking if most Bayern Munich fans are not heading straight for the tap to watch this one):A look at who is in and who is out for this match. Why Gladbach might be even more of a mess at this stage than Bayern Munich. Some excitement for seeing the Bayern youngsters.A prediction on the match. As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Weekend Warm-up Podcast Season 1, Episode 30 — A in depth look back at Bayern Munich’s Hinrunde; Transfer updates on Sergino Dest, Niklas Süle, Marc Roca, and Corentin Tolisso; plus MORE!

Bayern Munich might be on break, but there was plenty to talk about as the team closed out an extremely strong Hinrunde. During the preseason, there were some doubters unsure if Julian Nagelsmann was the right man for the job in Bavaria, but whether you like him or not, you cannot argue with the bottom line results.Bayern Munich is a juggernaut. This is what we have on tap for this episode: A brief thanks to the BFW community for all of the ongoing support. Lamenting that I couldn’t link up with Tom Adams for a two-man show. An astonishing moment recognizing I was actually alone and had an empty house (so I drank beers and did a podcast). A look at the coaching, defense, midfield, and attack during the Hinrunde. Bavarian Podcast Works S4E19: Rating Nagelsmann’s first Hinrunde at Bayern Munich, the decline of the Bundesliga and BVB, winter transfers, and more!

The Hinrunde is over and Bayern Munich are officially the winter champions! Borussia Dortmund’s loss to Hertha Berlin means that Julian Nagelsmann is officially 9 points clear at the top of the table after his first half-season in charge of the club — one of the best starts to a new season since Pep Guardiola. Still, there’s plenty to address regarding the circumstances of this Hinrunde, which we took the liberty of doing. In this episode, Ineednoname and Samrin discuss:What the hell happened to Borussia Dortmund this season? The general decline in the quality of the Bundesliga this season. Why losing great coaching talent has cost the league dearly. We start talking about Nagelsmann 10 minutes in if you can’t listen to discussion about other teams. What grade do we give Nagelsmann? Samrin explains her reasoning first. Can Bayern Munich compete with the top teams in the Champions League right now? Should Nagelsmann have been given a 5-year contract? How the coach is finding a better balance in recent games. Similarties between Nagelsmann and Pep Guardiola, especially with regard to Thomas Muller. Should Bayern make January transfers? (Includes a healthy dose of clowning on Cuisance.)INNN explains his reasoning for Nagelsmann’s rating. Final comments: Being fair to Nagelsmann and why we will keep backing him despite criticism. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Bayern Munich 4-0 Wolfsburg (Hinrunde)

Another game, another three points for Bayern Munich as the Bavarians crushed Wolfsburg 4-0 in a dominant showing that might have been more about how hapless the Wolves were instead of how impressive the home team was.Thomas Müller’s early goal seemed to deflate Wolfsburg and things did not improve for Florian Kohfeldt’s side. Clearly, the Wolves have A LOT of work to do if they want to save their season. Here is what we have on tap:A recap of the match.Bayern Munich’s dominance and Wolfsburg toothless play made for no contest. The Nagelsmann Effect.Müller continues his excellent season.Thankfully Robert Lewandowski scored or he might have exploded (this is a running theme). As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Special Edition — Champions League Round of 16 Draw Reaction (+ Stuttgart Preview)

After much huffing and puffing from UEFA, the Champions League Round of 16 draw is finally over, and Bayern Munich will definitely face RB Salzburg in the next round. This particular draw was rather eventful and had tonnes of controversy — at first, Bayern drew Atletico Madrid after all. Anyway, we just had to discuss all of that in an immediate reaction show. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Bayern Munich 2-1 Mainz

Now that just felt like a roller coaster ride, but one right after you’ve had a heavy lunch. Bayern Munich’s performance against Mainz was unimpressive, workmanlike and had a lot of heart-in-the-mouth moments, but the hosts edged out with a 2-1 victory thanks to some individual brilliance and a momentary turn of the tide in the second half. Mainz were fantastic, and made Bayern Munich fight hard to earn the win. The defense was particularly stellar, with Alexander Hack and Moussa Niakhate being the showrunners. Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala both scored a great goal each and ensured Bayern won at home. This win means that Bayern go 6 points clear of Dortmund at the top of the table, which is a comfortable cushion heading into the last couple of games of the hinrunde. Bayern Munich is playing its third game since last Saturday and after two HUGE victories, it would be easy to think that the Bavarians could be primed for a letdown. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Bayern Munich 3-0 Barcelona (Champions League)

The group stage of the Champions League is over, and Bayern Munich have come out of it with a perfect record. 6/6 wins, 22 goals scored, only 3 conceded. Barcelona are, meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum — even with a new coach in Xavi, they find themselves haplessly knocked down into the inferior cup competition because they simply did not have the quality to stand toe to toe with the Bavarians. Here are our talking points from the game:A quick look at the lineups of both sides, including some points on the nuances of Xavi’s setup, including his use of Dembele, Araujo, and Sergino Dest. How the game went — basic recap including the game state and the feel of the goals. Why Barcelona didn’t manage to capitalize on their decent start. How Benjamin Pavard and the Bayern defense actually had a GOOD game for a change!A quick recap of the Bayern midfield, focusing on the performances of Jamal Musiala and Corentin Tolisso. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs Barcelona (Champions League)

The final matchday of the Champions League group stage is here, but Bayern Munich have nothing but pride to play for. That’s a good motivator for sure, but not compared to the stakes at play for FC Barcelona. The Catalans NEED a win because it would likely guarantee them qualification to the Round of 16 — an almost existential necessity given their financial issues. Of course they could also bank on Benfica losing in the other game, but their new coach seems like a more courageous type. Should be an interesting contest. Here are our talking points ahead of the game:The major problems at Barcelona, starting with their basic setup. How things have changed since Xavi took over from Ronald Koeman. What is it that Barcelona need at the moment? The answer will shock you!Should Bayern Munich rest players against Barca? Why Bayern’s performances in the Champions League are more important than ever. Is it finally time for Niklas Sule to start a game again? Should he be in for Upamecano or Benjamin Pavard? Jamal Musiala — who should he bench in the lineup and why is it Leroy Sane? How Barca’s new playstyle under Xavi could actually help Bayern break them down. Who is actually Barca’s most dangerous player right now? Hint: There’s actually a correct answer this time!Closing thoughts on the irony of Bayern triggering an identity crisis at Barca. Bavarian Podcast Works S4E18: Is Nagelsmann losing his touch, Lewandowski robbed of the Ballon d’Or, ghost games, and more!

Another week of Bayern Munich related action has passed us by, and it’s provided plenty of food for thought. Julian Nagelsmann is hitting the first speedbump of his tenure, as injuries and absentees pile up while the performances get increasingly more desperate. Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski was once again robbed of a deserved Ballon d’Or award, and the Bundesliga isn’t allowed to have spectators again. Not great news, all things considered. In this episode, Ineednoname and Samrin discuss:Why Julian Nagelsmann is doing his best Carlo Ancelotti impression at the moment. The problems with Bayern’s tactical setup — starting from Alphonso Davies’ positioning and the consequences of the pseudo back-three.Thomas Muller’s strange role, and how it negatively affects the rest of the system. The problem with Leroy Sane right now — is it fatigue or another slump?Where are the young players? Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich (Der Klassiker)

As another eventful year in football comes to a close, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund once again gear up for a game which is undoubtedly the biggest in German football. People may not like the name “Der Klassiker” because, technically, this game isn’t a classic derby — but you can’t deny that the fixture has a compelling enough history to be its own thing at this point. There’s never been a game between Bayern and BVB that is considered low-stakes, which is good for the fans because things never get boring. Here are our talking points ahead of the game:The situation with ghost games in Germany, and reports that the Klassiker may end up with limited capacity.Key absentees for both Bayern Munich and BVB, especially the situation with Joshua Kimmich. The return of Erling Haaland, and problems he could cause Bayern defense.Bayern’s issues with the midfield for this game, including reports that both Goretzka AND Kimmich could be out — who replaces them and what should we worry about? Why gegenpressing is Bayern’s kryptonite and how BVB could exploit that weakness. How Dortmund has fared this season, including the disappointing performances of Marco Rose.A final scoreline prediction for the game.As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany.
