Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs. Bremer SV in the DFB-Pokal
Bayern Munich will face off with Bremer SV in the DFB-Pokal in what should (hopefully) not be much of a battle. Even without Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer, Leon Goretzka, Lucas Hernandez, and Kingsley Coman, the Bavarians should be able to take care of business in an efficient manner. Whatever the case, this actually could be an important match for a few players looking to showcase themselves. This is what we discuss: A look at who is in and who is out.An internal debate aired on whether this would be a back-three or back-four set-up.Why this match is important for players like Corentin Tolisso and Leroy Sane. The good chance we will see Bouna Sarr starting.A prediction on the match. Bavarian Podcast Works: Bayern Munich’s big win over FC Köln; How Marcel Sabitzer would fit at Bayern; Title Hamster; Bayern’s wing drama; and MORE!
Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann might just be toying with everyone when he has the club release his formations as a 4-2-3-1. During his team’s win over FC Köln, Nagelsmann absolutely shifted roles and responsibilities around without really calling it what it was. Will the new boss have more of that on tap? We cover that and whole lot more on this episode of Bavarian Football Works. Here is the rundown of what we have on tap: The finer points of Bayern Munich’s win over FC Köln, the formation, and what went right and wrong during the match. How the wings stack up and who should be starting on the offensive flanks. What signing Marcel Sabitzer would mean and a look at how he might fit. Talking “Title Hamsters”, dessert before dinner, and more!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. BPW Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich’s hard fought 3-2 win against FC Köln
Phew, that was a wild ride. Bayern Munich’s second Bundesliga game this season saw them pitted against a feisty Köln side that was unafraid to attack and defended like their lives depended on it. Nagelsmann’s third game of the season showed signs of promise, but lacked the dominance and the free-flowing football that we’ve come to expect from Bayern in recent years. There were plenty of takeaways from the game, which have been covered in the pod. Here’s are some major points that will be covered:The lineup: A back 3 or a back 4?The lack of cohesion and a lot of rust witnessed in the first half.A tale of 3 wingers and 2 halves.Bayern’s defense is sus, as usual.A brilliant effort from Köln, who are to be taken seriously.Chuck’s magic. As always, do leave your feedback in the comments and thank you for the support! Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs. FC Köln (Hinrunde)
Bayern Munich will be back in Bundesliga action this Sunday, and against Köln, they will look to carry the momentum from their thrilling 3-1 win against Dortmund that clinched them the DFL-Supercup.Köln started the season with a dominant 3-1 win against Hertha Berlin, and will therefore be no easy opponent. Bayern’s defenders will have their hands full with Köln’s speedy attack, but the Bavarians are no slouches either and would aim to trouble the opposition with some intense pressing and relentless attacking. Lewandowski in particular will be rearing to carry his elite goal-scoring form into this game.Yes, Nagelsmann did show us some of what he might have in store for the fans this season in the victory against Dortmund, but the fact remains that he has yet to win a Bundesliga game with Bayern (I know, the team has only played one game, but still), and now will be the best time to get to winning ways. Here’s what we have in store for you:A quick intro (this is my first pod, after all!)Some quick takeaways from Bayern’s game against DortmundThe form of both teams going into the gameKey players and predicted lineupsA final score predictionAnd as usual, do give your feedback and feel free to show your support in the comments!Be sure to rate us, like us, subscribe to us, and follow us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and anywhere else you get your quality audio content.Follow us on Twitter @BavarianFBWorks, @jeffersonfenner, @TheBarrelBlog, @tommyadams71, and more.Learn more about your ad choices. BPW Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the DFL Supercup
Having started the season on a sour note by drawing to Gladbach, Bayern Munich have pulled one back by winning the first silverware of the Julian Nagelsmann era. Borussia Dortmund may have been missing some key players in this year’s edition of the DFL Supercup, but that didn’t make this game any less entertaining. As always, there was plenty to discuss about the game, which you can listen to below. Talking points from the game:How Julian Nagelsmann configured Bayern’s defense to deal with Haaland. Complaining about Bayern’s wingers (again). Why Thomas Muller seems underutilized in the system at the moment. Josip Stanisic the enigma. Bavarian Podcast Works: DFL-Supercup Preview Show — Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich
In his first “final” in the DFL-Supercup, Julian Nagelsmann will fight for a trophy as manager of Bayern Munich against Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund is not his favorite rival; time and time again, Dortmund took Leipzig apart, including in the DFB-Pokal finale. Both sides have defensive injuries to contend with. Mats Hummels is seemingly out and Emre Can is a doubt as well. A makeshift defense consisting of Felix Passlack, Axel Witsel, Manuel Akanji and Nico Schulz. Bayern has to deal with the absence of Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez; seemingly, Josip Stanisic will retain his place at right-back going into this match up.Marco Rose’s Dortmund pressed incessantly against Frankfurt. Bayern did not seem too press-resistant against Borussia Mönchengladbach on the other hand. The Bavarians look rather rusty and a Dortmund fixture might be coming at a bad time for Nagelsmann’s charges. Some topics discussed on this podcast:Why this game matters for both sidesA review of Dortmund’s performance against Eintracht FrankfurtSome issues in Bayern’s game against GladbachDayot Upamecano’s issues against physically imposing strikersIssues at the back for both sides.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: First impressions and a new dynamic duo?
The 2021/2022 Bundesliga season is officially upon us and match week 1 is officially in the books! Bayern Munich opened up their campaign with an entertaining 1-1 draw at Borussia Monchengladbach with the goals from Alassane Plea and Robert Lewandowski (who else?). It was Julian Nagelsmann’s first competitive match in charge as Bayern manager, but he was forced to field a handful of younger or fringe players, particularly in defense, with the amount of injuries the squad has already accumulated. Josip Stanisic impressed, Dayot Upamecano was decent, but there’s still plenty of work to do for Nagelsmann as he know switches gears to prep for the midweek DFL-Supercup against Borussia Dortmund. For the first time ever on Bavarian Podcast Works, Tom and Ineednoname team up for this week’s flagship episode. We had to work to find a time to record, living on opposite ends of the globe, but it was a pleasure to get a new voice on the flagship show, as we’re making it a point this season to get some more voices involved on the podcast. This could be the birth of a new dynamic duo, with no discredit to Chuck or Jake, though I never shy away from making fun of Chuck. Let us know how we did in the comments section and thanks again for listening with us. We look forward to the rest of the season and being able to share it with all of you! Yet again, we’re providing you the best audio content by giving you a wrap-up and recap of this most recent match. In this episode Tom and Ineednoname discuss:-Our first impressions thus far of Nagelsmann-The crazy landscape of the transfer market this summer-Whether or not we think Bayern will sign Marcel Sabitzer from RB Leipzig-The wage structure at Bayern-Who we think Bayern’s biggest European rivals will be this season-And more!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. BPW Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich’s opening day draw to Gladbach
It was an opening day disaster for Bayern Munich as they failed to beat Borussia Monchengladbach away from home. Okay, maybe “disaster” is a bit strong, but the performance wasn’t that good. Julian Nagelsmann’s tenure as coach has started inauspiciously, with him failing to win a single game so far. Is this a sign of things to come? Talking points from the game:Just how good is Alphonso Davies?Josip Stanisic shows promise. Gnabry and Sane are letting the team down at the moment. Was Thomas Muller less involved?Nagelsmann needs to adjust to Bayern, not the other way around. Upamecano’s troubles with physical strikers. As always, thank you for the support! Bavarian Podcast Works: Weekend Warm-up Episode 12 — The latest on Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Corentin Tolisso; Why Brazzo might need to sign Marcel Sabitzer; The fun season ahead; and MORE!
Another week is in the books for Bayern Munich and what a week it was. It seems as if it is only a matter of time before the team officially extends the contract of Joshua Kimmich, but the club’s rumored pursuit of Marcel Sabitzer could have hit a roadblock. Regardless, here are the topics we have on tap: The mayhem in the midfield with potential contract extensions for Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, the pursuit of Sabitzer, and possible sale of Corentin Tolisso. The curious case of Leroy Sane and why this year is so important for both the Sane and Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic — despite the former Manchester City man not wanting to be judged by his goals or assists. The uncertain season ahead of Julian Nagelsmann — especially after declaring his roster was a bit thin. As always, thank you for the support! Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Gladbach vs. Bayern Munich (Hinrunde)
Here we go! Finally, we have the season opener upon us and Bayern Munich will take on Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga’s opening match. Maybe more than any other season in recent memory, Bayern Munich looks a bit vulnerable, but luckily for the Bavarians, Gladbach is dealing with its own issues. Both squads have high expectations and both club hired new managers when their old skippers departed after last season. While some pundits feel as if Gladbach might be the deeper team, no is denying that Bayern Munich has a starting XI capable of winning multiple titles this season. Will that matter when these two teams do battle? We’ll soon find out. Here is what we have on tap: A quick look at both squads.A predicted lineup for Bayern Munich.A prediction on the match. Bavarian Podcast Works: Season 4 lift off! We’re back, baby!
After what’s been an incredibly ridiculous 17 months since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s genuinely hard to believe that yet another Bundesliga season for Bayern Munich is upon us. Our sense of time has been warped by the amount of action we’ve seen packed so close together for the better part of the past 15 months after football and sport as a whole had been paused for approximately two months when the pandemic first started to break out en masse across the globe. Just as quickly as Germany was knocked out of the Euros by England, Julian Nagelsmann already has a full preseason under his belt as the new Bayern manager and we’re just one week away from the season opener against Borussia Monchengladbach. With a new Bayern season comes a new season of Bavarian Podcast Works and our flagship show. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Bayern Munich loses to Napoli, 0-3, goes into season a bit rusty
Julian Nagelsmann will be glad preseason friendlies are over after yet another average showing by Bayern Munich . In what was good news, many starters returned and played 45 or more minutes. Robert Lewandowski captained the side for the day; other regulars included Leroy Sané, Leon Goretzka, Benjamin Pavard, Kingsley Coman among others, Coman would not last long, sustaining an injury early in the first half and being taken off for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.There were chances from Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Dayot Upamecano and Choupo-Moting in the first half but the teams went into the half 0-0. Julian Nagelsmann made nine changes to start off the second half. The changes would disrupt flow, particularly at the back, and Bayern would go on to concede three quick goals in the last 20 or so minutes to lose 0-3.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. It was a big week on the news front for Bayern Munich. There have been three preseason friendly losses to date, but some intriguing news surrounding the team has some fans thinking more about the future than the present group of youngsters masquerading as the senior team.On this episode we talk about:The Sport1 report saying Timo Werner, Erling Haaland, and Federico Chiesa have all been discussed internally as future options at Bayern Munich.Updates on Leon Goretzka and Corentin Tolisso. The upcoming Robert Lewandowski documentary. Some winners and losers from the preseason so far.As always, thank you for the support! Bavarian Podcast Works: Bayern Munich takes on nemesis Borussia Mönchengladbach, inevitably loses 0-2
The friendlies are running out and Julian Nagelsmann is running out of time to win one. Today was no different; Bayern Munich went down to the team I consider their arch-nemesis, Borussia MönchengIadbach, 0-2. I wonder if Hansi Flick would have won his friendlies if he had the chance to play friendlies last season. There were some solid performers out there. Malik Tillman had a good game as did Omar Richards; Richards’ performance matters because of all the injuries Bayern is contending with in defense. For Gladbach, long-term players such as Patrick Hermann disappointed but youngsters such as Connor Noss and Moustafa Moustafa impressed. Hannes Wolf put in a very good performance as well.Perhaps Nagelsmann is learning more and more about which players he wants to promote. Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show: Reactions and talking points from Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw with Ajax
Bayern Munich and Ajax fought to a fun — and relatively well-played — 2-2 draw in Germany. There were some good things — and some not so good things — about the match, but we saw some progress from the Bayern Munich youngsters and from a few vets as well.On this episode we discuss the following:The good performance from players like Armindo Sieb, Tanguy Nianzou, Michael Cuisance, and Torben Rhein. The huge gaffe by Joshua Zirkzee — who was actually doing well prior to that. Why things are never going to look really pretty in these friendlies. The fearlessness of the Bayern Munich’s youngsters and why Julian Nagelsmann might be an influence with that.As always, thank you for the support! Bavarian Podcast Works: Weekend Warm-up Episode 9 — Bayern Munich’s contract chaos; How Leroy Sane’s deal is affecting current negotiations; Robert Lewandowski to Chelsea?; and MORE!
We thought this would be a relatively dead week for Bayern Munich news, but we were WAY off. Not only did we see some absolutely crazy news regarding the club’s current negotiations with some star players, but we got a hefty dose of “Robert Lewandowski is opening to leaving” news that made us think it was 2018 all over again. Anyway, here is what we have on tap for you: A look at the Sport Bild report detailing the issues with Bayern Munich’s contract negotiations with Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, and Kingsley Coman. Bavarian Podcast Works: Germany beats Portugal, 2-4, holds fate in their own hands against Hungary in Euro 2020
A lot of us cried “doom and gloom”; a lot of us thought it was over for Germany after a deflating performance against France in their Euro 2020 opener. Yet, today, the attack was inspired, the play was joyful, the defense was shaky and Germany won. It wasn’t a last second free kick from Toni Kroos; it wasn’t a lucky goal; they deserved the victory. With Hungary taking a point against France today, every team is alive going into the final matchday; all Germany has to do (no easy task) is to beat Hungary on the final day and they will qualify; in fact, if Portugal beats France on the final day and Germany beats Hungary, Germany will finish top.Hungary was supposed to be out of it all as was Germany; but both are alive and kicking ahead of the last day of this group on Wednesday, 06/23. The deciders promise to be breathtaking; this game for me, was the best game of this tournament.Match StatsPortugal 2 - 4 GermanyPortugal goals: Cristiano Ronaldo 15’, Diogo Jota 67’Germany goals: Ruben Dias o.g. 35’, Raphael Guerreiro o.g. 39’, Kai Havertz 51’, Robin Gosens 60’Portugal: 42.4%, 7 SOGGermany: 57.6%, 12 SOGStats courtesy whoscored.comBe sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on the 2020 Euros.
