The DFB Pokal is back, and Bayern Munich have a nightmare opponent in store. For the third time this season, Julian Nagelsmann must face Adi Hutter’s Borussia Monchengladbach — a team which he has yet to beat in any meaningful way. Bavarian Podcast Works S4E12: Joshua Kimmich’s vaccine decision, Bundesliga marketing vs El Clasico hype, Lewy vs Haaland, and more!

Another week has gone by, and there’s even more Bayern Munich news to talk about. Of course the big one is how Joshua Kimmich was revealed to be unvaccinated, creating a massive rift in the Bayern fanbase. We can’t dedicate a whole podcast to that, but we did discuss it and a whole lot of other topics relevant to the club and German football at large. In this episode, Samrin and Ineednoname discuss:Why El Clasico has lost its luster, and you should watch the Bundesliga instead. Why German fans don’t seem to hate each other like Real Madrid and Barcelona fans do. How the Bundesliga is marketed in India now, with ACTUAL PUNDITRY!Room to improve the marketing, especially in comparison to the Premier League.Samrin bullies INNN into remembering the names of three Bielefeld/Mainz players. The Champions League disaster from Germany in Europe. A Haaland vs Lewandowski debate! How Thomas Muller fits Bayern like a glove. Joshua Kimmich’s vaccine decision (final third of the podcast). Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Bayern Munich beats Hoffenheim 4-0; remains top of the Bundesliga

Bayern Munich danced their way past Hoffenheim in a fantastic performance; the game was over by the end of the first half as Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski had scored by that time to give Bayern a 2-0 lead. Gnabry has been having a very productive season to date, scoring at a high rate. Lewandowski’s was a screamer which came courtesy of Thomas Müller outmuscling Christopher Richards off the ball and setting up the Polish striker. In the second half, goals from substitutes Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Kingsley Coman wrapped up the performance. Choupo-Moting is a deft finisher and tends to always scores these days when he comes on a sub. Coman’s goal was beautifully set up by Dayot Upamecano with a long range pass from the back.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs Hoffenheim (Bundesliga)

After the 4-0 win over Benfica in midweek, Bayern Munich are (figuratively) top of the world. Therefore, as is the way of the world, Hoffenheim are lurking just around the corner to bring the Bavarians crashing back down to earth. This is par for the course for the Sinsheim based club, who have been a thorn in Bayern’s side ever since Julian Nagelsmann saved them from relegation all those years ago. In a way, Nagelsmann must face the monster he created — and he has to do it from quarantine, as he tested positive for Covid-19.Here are our talking points ahead of the game:How Bayern loanee Chris Richards stands to make an impression on the club bosses in this game.Tactical considerations for the lineup with Julian Nagelsmann set to miss the game. How the XI could look like, from the defense moving forward. Could Alphonso Davies and Leon Goretzka start? Why it’s high time for the coach to start Jamal Musiala and give Leroy Sane some rest. Some final thoughts on what we want to see from the game.As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bayern Munich have just cruised to another win the Champions League group stage, this time scoring four quickfire goals against Portuguese giants SL Benfica. This puts the Bavarians in a commanding position in their group with nine points out of a possible nine. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Bayern beats direct title rivals Bayer Leverkusen 1 - 5

Bayern Munich taught Bayer Leverkusen a lesson in compact, beautiful one-touch football by slotting five goals past them in the first half. Robert Lewandowski got the party started early on in the first half after Bayer Leverkusen’s back-line left Dayot Upamecano open to set up Bayern’s #9. Bayern had to defend quite a bit afterward as Leverkusen went searching for an equalizer. However, Bayern’s back-line would not be breached and remained compact, dealing with the likes of Florian Wirtz, Patrick Schick and Moussa Diaby easily. There were many star performers in the first half for Bayern but Joshua Kimmich, for the first time in a while, had a fantastic game. He has been solid this season but today showed what Kimmich, a ball-playing, holding midfielder, can do at full strength. Alphonso Davies started and did incredibly well; Leverkusen could not deal with him. Bayern’s goals came courtesy of Robert Lewandowski (2), Thomas Müller and Serge Gnabry (2). Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Germany beats North Macedonia 0-4

If there was ever going to be a barometer to measure if Hansi Flick’s Germany is indeed better than Joachim Löw’s Germany, it would be this. Under their former manager, Germany had lost to North Macedonia (albeit a North Macedonia with Goran Pandev); that loss was Germany’s first in roughly two decades in a World Cup qualifier. The opposition was the same today and as long as Romania was able to beat Armenia, what was at the stake for Germany was World Cup qualification for Qatar 2022.Hansi Flick made some notable changes. As Antonio Rüdiger was absent due to injury, he inserted Thilo Kehrer into the heart of the defense next to Niklas Süle, played David Raum in the left-back slot and replaced Jonas Hofmann with Lukas Klostermann for the right back slot. He also left out Leroy Sané in favor of Kai Havertz for this one.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Germany vs North Macedonia (World Cup Qualifiers)

Germany are heading into their second game of the international break. This time, they’ll be facing North Macedonia, who haven’t exactly been easy opponents lately (the 2-1 loss comes to mind). Granted, they now have a coach who can actually make the right decisions and field the right players, but a lot hinges on the forwards being able to convert their chances. It is almost certain that Germany will go into this game pressing from the start, and we will so no dearth of Bayern players, with 8 players getting called up (with Neuer out, that leaves Flick with 7 top quality Bayern options). Let’s hope Germany can continue with their winning streak. Here are the talking points:Remembering Germany’s time under Loew and that sad loss to North MacedoniaA look at the two teams: main options, threats, etc.Defensive options, and who will get the nodThe Timo Werner situation, and who starts in attackOverall lineup and scoreline predictionLearn more about your ad choices. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Germany’s 2-1 win over Romania

Germany managed to scrape a win against an extremely well-drilled Romania side in what becomes the first problematic game of Hansi Flick’s short tenure. Starting with five Bayern Munich players in the lineup, the Germans went down early to a goal by Ianis Hagi and struggled to stamp their authority on the game. While Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller eventually brought home all three points, questions will be asked about the nature of this performance. Here are our talking points from the game:How Hansi Flick got his lineup and tactics completely wrong. Giving credit to Romania for a strong performance at the back. Why Timo Werner and Marco Reus should not be starting for Germany anymore — at least in the role they have currently. The problem with Germany’s fullbacks at the moment. Some lovely Thomas Muller propaganda, which we always love to hear. Some experiments Hansi Flick needs to make in the upcoming games. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Germany vs Romania (World Cup Qualifiers)

With the international break now upon us, it’s time to shift our focus from Bayern Munich to Germany. Hansi Flick has made a winning start to life as Germany coach, and will want to continue gaining momentum in the buildup to next year’s world cup. However, there’s a lot of things to do and not much time to do it — he’ll have to be quick about his work. This October international break is the last one for a long time. Here are the talking points before the game:Admitting the shameful fact that I know nothing about Romania. How Hansi Flick might line up the team — formation, players, and so on. The Timo Werner issue, and how Flick may be planning to revive him. The midfield rotation problem — technically not a problem for Germany, but a headache for Bayern fans. Potential options in defense. Could Niklas Sule be moved to right-back? Or will it be Jonas Hofmann?Who will play left-back for Germany? How about ... Leroy Sane? Bavarian Podcast Works S4E9: Hating on the back-three, can Bayern Munich be challenged, Germany’s predicted XI, and more!

Bayern Munich have completed another week of football without any major incidents, well at least if you don’t include the loss to Eintracht Frankfurt. Now, as club football enters another international break, we here at Bavarian Podcast Works take a look at some promised talking points from the last seven days. Full disclosure: this episode was recorded before the Bayern v Frankfurt game, so it doesn’t take that into account. In this episode, Ineednoname and Samrin discuss:The three-man backline, and why both hate it. Addressing the classic “Chelsea use it, why can’t Bayern” argument, and why it doesn’t apply. Why Benjamin Pavard is a problem (new arguments this time!!!). Have Julian Nagelsmann’s Bayern Munich been challenged yet? Small tangent on goalkeepers, including Manuel Neuer, Gregor Kobel, and ter Stegen. Who could pose a decent threat to this team. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Bayern Munich loses 1-2 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt

Bayern Munich perhaps could have had more and should have had more. Kevin Trapp, as opposition keepers tend to when they play Bayern, had a wonderful game and perhaps will go down as man of the match. Manuel Neuer was no slouch either, helping in build up play, coming to almost the halfway line to stop Frankfurt’s breakaways.Bayern had more shots (by far) and more possession; Leroy Sané had a good game and put in plenty of effort but could not find the back of the net. Robert Lewandowski was very quiet, marked out of the game. His opposite number in Frankfurt, Rafael Santos Borré was isolated and basically also marked out of the game.Bayern’s first goal came courtesy of an error by Marin Hinteregger; his pass would deflect off a Bayern player and find its way to Leon Goretzka who would score his first Bundesliga goal of the season. Hinteregger himself would equalize from a corner. Very late on in the game, Filip Kostic would score the winner to hand Frankfurt a first league win of the season.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bayern Munich is looking unstoppable, and grabbed yet another lopsided victory against Ukrainian champions Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League. Nagelsmann has made all the right moves thus far, and this team looks really formidable and is certainly a treble contender. Bavarian Podcast Works S4E8: Is Benjamin Pavard good enough for Bayern Munich, Niklas Sule’s leaked chats, the Werner debacle, and more!

Bayern Munich have completed another week of football which saw the team beat SpVgg Greuther Furth 3-1 (and nothing else, because the Bundesliga schedule isn’t hell-bent on murdering players). There were some interesting stories which broke during the week, including a series of leaked messages involving Niklas Sule and his agent, plus the news that Timo Werner WAS indeed supposed to join the Bavarians at some point. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Greuther Fürth vs Bayern Munich (Hinrunde)

Bayern Munich travels to Greuther Fürth in a Bavarian derby this weekend. They lost to Hertha Berlin last weekend after having gone up a goal courtesy of a Branimir Hrgota penalty. In this podcast, we take a look at some changes Julian Nagelsmann might make ahead of Bayern’s game against Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League in midweek; we also look at Greuther Fürth’s struggles and how we think this game will go. Bavarian Podcast Works S4E7: Did Nagelsmann fix Leroy Sane, Bayern’s defensive masterclass, UEFA’s awful new FFP, and more!

It’s been a tough week of games following the end of the international break, but Julian Nagelsmann and Bayern Munich have navigated them brilliantly. The Bavarians have scored 14 goals and conceded only once since coming back from international duty, which included games against the likes of RB Leipzig and Barcelona. Now, with a whole week’s break to look forward to, we can finally stop and take stock of how far the team has come since Julian Nagelsmann took over. In this episode, Tom and Ineednoname discuss:Is Leroy Sane fixed? What did Nagelsmann do to him? How Bayern’s wingers are improving under the new coach. What Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka’s contract extensions mean for Bayern (and Germany).Talking about Bayern’s revamped defense, including our best backline. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich victory over VfL Bochum

Bayern Munich scored seven goals on a gorgeous day in Munich (finally, a home game!), showcasing their talents out there and just having fun! The score at half time was 4-0 thanks to goals from Leroy Sané, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and an own goal. The score-line gave Julian Nagelsmann the chance to rest Alphonso Davies and bring on Richards for his debut.Bayern added a fifth from Robert Lewandowski, a sixth from Joshua Kimmich and a seventh from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting; Choupo’s goal was his 50th goal of his Bundesliga career, a milestone.Marcel Sabitzer and Bouna Sarr also got minutes on the pitch; Sabitzer hopefully might get a start against Greuther Fürth but, perhaps, Nagelsmann didn’t feel he was ready yet.Thomas Müller seemed to have scored an eighth; unfortunately, the goal wouldn’t stand because of VAR. A Müller goal would have been perfect to wrap up the day but it wasn’t to be today.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over FC Barcelona

The Champions League is underway and Bayern Munich have started their campaign with a big win. Barcelona may not be what it used to be, but this 3-0 was more comfortable than most would’ve expected, given the fact that the game was played away at the Camp Nou, and Bayern had a grueling schedule coming into this one. Still, Nagelsmann’s boys dispatched their Catalan counterparts with relative ease, recording a precious clean sheet as well. Here are our talking points from the game:Dayot Upamecano and how Nagelsmann made the defense impregnable. How Nagelsmann made adjustments to counter Koeman’s 3-5-2.Analyzing how Bayern maintained the intensity while playing through fatigue. Why Jamal Musiala had an extremely tough time vs the Catalans. How Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller seem underutilized by Nagelsmann so far.Bayern’s midfielders had a bad time against Barca’s 3-5-2, and why Nagelsmann shares the blame.Barcelona fans are more than justified in their dislike of Ronald Koeman — his tactics were way too negative and he doesn’t seem to have a vision for the team.As always, we love your feedback and appreciate all the support!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Barcelona vs Bayern Munich

Having just won a grueling game against RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich immediately travel to Spain to kick off their Champions League campaign against Barcelona. This is a very different Barca side from the one Bayern beat 8-2 last year. Leo Messi and Luis Suarez are no longer on the team, replaced by Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong (more on him later). Here are our talking point ahead of the game:A basic rundown of Barcelona for a La Liga novice. How Koeman may line up his team in a 3-5-2 including which Barca players are fit/injured. Pros and cons of the 3-5-2. Discussing the threat of Memphis Depay. What a Barcelona team with a 4-2-3-1 can look like. How injuries could derail Bayern in this crucial game at the start of the season. Samrin exposing her opinions by saying Luuk de Jong is Barca’s most dangerous player (what???). Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich’s 4-1 win over RB Leipzig

Bayern Munich won and won in style against Red Bull Leipzig, beating them convincingly, 1-4. The victory was impressive for a variety of reasons, particularly who the opponents were; while Leipzig has not started the season particularly well, they still were the offensively better side in all their games, missing only the end product — that was not the case today and with better finishing from Robert Lewandowski of all people, Bayern could have scored more. For Leipzig, things are not coming together too smoothly under Jesse Marsch; his star striker, André Silva has not quite connected with the team yet and new signings such as Dominik Szoboszlai are settling in themselves.Stats:Total Shots: Leipzig 10, Bayern 14Shots on Goal: Leipzig 4, Bayern 7Possession: Leipzig 52.5, Bayern 47.5*Stats courtesy of whoscored.comFind any of the contributors on Twitter @BavarianFBWorks, @jeffersonfenner, @TheBarrelBlog, @TommyAdams71, and @bfwinnn.For the latest and greatest in football news, Bayern news, Germany news, and transfer rumors, be sure to visit www.bavarianfootballworks.com!Learn more about your ad choices. BPW Postgame Show: A look back at Bayern Munich’s glorious 5-0 victory over hapless Hertha Berlin

Bayern Munich hit Hertha for five in a standout performance for Jamal Musiala, who deservedly received a standing ovation for an outstanding performance. Julian Nagelsmann seems to know what he is doing; his players connected very well. He also made some timely substitutions to give his players enough rest.Robert Lewandowski bagged a hattrick; he manages to break his own records and make it seem easy. He is eerily consistent; I think Erling Haaland is still a level below Lewandowski (tsk tsk UEFA); Lewa is an intelligent player with years of experience under his belt. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs. Hertha Berlin

After downing FC Köln and Bremer SV, Bayern Munich steamrolling into this weekend’s Bundesliga tilt with Hertha Berlin. The Bavarians will play host to Die Alte Dame and should have some key players rested. Robert Lewandowski and Leon Goretzka did not even make the trip to Bremen for the DFB-Pokal match (and it is probably a good thing they were held back given the 12-0 final score), which could be dangerous for Hertha Berlin.
