On paper Toy Story 4 isn't necessary and yet the film proper does a great job of justifying its existence to where it serves as a solid epilogue to the trilogy of films before it. Toy Story 4 takes all the themes of the previous films and adds in the wrinkle of what it means to find purpose in life. Shaft is a very interesting franchise rooted in its blaxsploitation roots. 19 years ago, John Singleton gave us an updated version starring Sam Jackson in the role. It was an ok movie overall that had some over the top moments. So this followup sequel on first glance seems like a cash grab but it ends up being a pretty good film mainly because of writer Kenya Barris making the dialogue believable and not over the top stupidity. The MiB franchise for the most part has been a fun watch with the animated series doing the heavy lifting in terms of fleshing out the lore. In comes MiB International which has a very back to basic approach in that it uses the plot framework of the first film with a different set of circumstances and for the most part it works. Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth have such a good chemistry with each other that it helps the film out big time. The X-Men franchise has been a very hit and miss movie affair. Dark Phoenix is in a position where on one hand, its a way better movie than X-Men Apocalypse but the flipside is that once again we're getting a movie about the Phoenix. With Disney going full tilt into doing live action retellings of the older animated films, Aladdin comes to us offering a surprisingly good retelling of the og cartoon with some good changes for some of the characters. Will Smith manages to do a solid job as the Genie as well. Well worth the watch. 3BG rating: 8 out of 10

2014 Godzilla did a lot right but left a lot to be desired. This go round, they got everything right. From the pacing, to the direction/cinematography, to monsters and Godzilla. Very rare do you see a movie franchise constantly one up itself with every sequel and the John Wick films do just that. For the longest time since late 90's/Early 2000's, James Cameron had been sitting on the project of doing an adaptation of the Yukito Kishiro property Battle Angel Alita. Constant stories and an Avatar movie later, we finally get his movie realized on the big screen and it ends up being a decent watch overall. The main thing about this film is that the visuals and action is what keeps your attention from beginning to end. Its not to say the acting is bad. Its okay and its really Christoph Waltz and Rosa Salazar that stand out with there respective characters especially Rosa's Alita.
