S6 Ep 2The Premier League is almost here! 1865 season preview

Nottingham Forest are about to start their first Premier League this century, and we are here for it! In our preseason preview, Rich Ferraro is joined by Tom Newton, Steven Toplis and the Maradona of the Midlands to discuss transfers (in and out), the ground redevelopment proposal, and reflect upon a busy summer for the club hierarchy. In addition, we hear from City Ground Stadium Announcer Mark Dennison, as he looks forward to plying his trade in the top flight - will we still be hearing Freed From Desire and Just Can't Get Enough? S5 Ep 771865 meets Mark Dennison and Nick Miller

In this podcast extra, we bring you the full interviews with our recent guests City Ground Stadium Announcer Mark Dennison and football writer Nick Miller. Mark brings you the ins and outs of the big day out at Wembley, the mild panic about Steve Cook's fruity language at Slab Square, and the joys of working at the City Ground in a historic season for the club. We also take a few minutes to show our appreciation for Radio Nottingham's Forest commentator, the marvellous Colin Fray. Nick tells us about his experience as a fan on the day, and whether this would count as his greatest ever day as a Forest supporter. We also discuss the accusations of media bias, and that the press wanted the Reds to go up - no spoilers here, but journalists love a good story. Finally, we also discuss whether that rainy night at Ashton Gate was the turning point in Forest's season. We have one more podcast coming up for you this season, with our Premier League Quiz. S5 Ep 75FOREST ARE IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE! Huddersfield 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

It was the big day out and Forest have done it! A first half own goal from Levi Colwill, under pressure from Ryan Yates, gave the Reds a slender advantage. In truth Forest were the better team in the first half and Yates should have given them the lead with a header which went just wide. Naturally, the Terriers came back at us, and although they didn't have many clear efforts on goal, they will feel aggrieved that they didn't get at least one penalty, even with VAR. On a special day, we have a special match report, with Rich Ferraro and Baz bringing you thoughts and reflections from before, during and after the game, along with roving reporter the Maradona of the Midlands, and some of the atmosphere from the Red end of Wembley - do visit our social media for more clips (see link below). S5 Ep 74Forest are in the playoff final! The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, May 2022

*Apologies to podcast subscribers using Apple. There was a problem with our feed but hopefully this has now been fixed. This podcast was initially published on Monday 23rd May, and we hope you can still enjoy it before the big day out at Wembley* No-one saw this coming eight months ago - Forest are on their way to Wembley to play in their first ever playoff final! Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz, Steven Toplis, The Maradona Of The Midlands and Tom Newton to discuss the rollercoaster of emotions during and after the semi-finals against Sheffield United, and whether we have "pre-traumatic stress disorder" (c. Nick Miller, 2022). Naturally, we discuss the importance of belief and PMA (positive mental attitude). We are joined by guests including Hal from The Sheffield United Way to reflect upon the semi-final, and the aftermatch shenanigans; and Brady from And He Takes That Chance to get the lowdown on what Forest should expect from The Terriers at Wembley. We'll be back after the big match with a review of the match, and end-of-term debrief. By the time the season is over we will have recorded 75 podcasts this season; thank you so much for joining us. S5 Ep 73EFL Playoff Semi Final 2nd leg: Nottingham Forest 1-2 Sheffield United (Forest win 3-2 on penalties)

A dramatic night at the City Ground, as Sheffield United produced a spirited performance to beat the Reds 2-1 on the night, which meant extra time and eventually penalties. Brennan Johnson emulated his dad by scoring in both legs of a play-off semi final against the Blades, but second half goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and John Fleck meant that it was honours even on aggregate. Brice Samba was the hero, with a save late in extra time to deny Iliman Ndiaye a certain winner, and then three penalty saves in the shootout; Johnson, Cafu and Cook all buried their spotkicks before Joe Lolley's miss for the Reds, but Samba denied Gibbs-White to prompt a pitch invasion. Rich Ferraro and Baz report on the good, the bad and the ugly (the Billy Sharp incident), with sore throats and aching heads having just returned from the match. We will have more considered thoughts for you at the weekend, when we will also preview the play-off final! See you at Wembley. S5 Ep 72EFL Playoff Semi Final: Sheffield United 1-2 Nottingham Forest

A scintillating Forest performance saw the Reds carry a slender advantage into Tuesday's home leg. In truth, the away team should have put the match to bed in the first half, with a number of good chances bringing near misses and decent saves from Wes Foderingham (especially the double save from Surridge and Johnson). However, Forest will be delighted, having taken an early lead from Jack Colback and then doubled the advantage with Brennan Johnson's cool finish after good work from Joe Lolley. Sander Berge scored a soft late goal from a corner to give the Blades hope for the second leg (and give Paul Heckingbottom the chance to engage in some amateur mind games), but if Forest can reproduce their attacking display from today, they will be confident about the prospects of making the final. Tom Newton was at the game, and reports back in conversation with Steven Toplis. S5 Ep 71Nottingham Forest vs Sheffield United: the play-offs revisited

If you're of a nervous disposition, you might want to give this one a miss! A couple of years ago, during the nationwide lockdown, Rich Ferraro, Steven Toplis and the Maradona of the Midlands reviewed Forest's previous play-off campaigns, including the classic but heartbreaking encounters with Sheffield United in 2003. We'll be back with our match reports from both of this year's semi-finals against the Blades, and will be hoping for better fortune this time. S5 Ep 70"No more 2003": The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, March 2022

Sheffield United in a two-legged Championship play-off semi-final? Nothing can go wrong there, can it? In our 70th podcast of the season (phew), we review the season just gone, thinking about the Steve Cooper Revolution, and how his tactics and management have made such a huge difference to our team's fortunes; we hear from a Blades fan and discuss how we definitely don't have PTSD from 19 years ago; and on a more positive note we choose our goals of the season, and players of the season. Even amongst all of that, there is time for a discussion about VAR and whether it would have made a positive difference to Forest's season, as well as hearing from Jeremy Davies with his final sketch this term. We also have time for some news from Fanhub and our final giveaway of the season: we will give out some Forest mugs, courtesy of our friends at The Terrace - just post a lovely review of our podcast on your app of choice, and send us a screenshot to [email protected] by 6pm on Friday 20th May, and we will select four lucky winners that weekend. S5 Ep 69Hull City 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

After a sterling run of results throughout April, some Reds fans would say that this has been a disappointing week to end the season, but in the space of 39 games Steve Cooper has turned the Reds around from relegation certainties to a place in the play-offs, where they will face Sheffield United. Rich Ferraro and Tom Newton discuss the performance of a much-changed Forest team, as the gaffer took the chance to rest many of his first choice XI (and he said that most of them were carrying injuries). As a result, the performance had an end-of-season, slightly disjointed feel, but the away side will still feel like they should have won the game as they took the lead through Brennan Johnson's stoppage time penalty, before Lewie Coyle (or was it Keane Lewis-Potter?) equalised for Hull just a minute later to consign the Reds to fourth position and a trip to Bramall Lane. We also hear the views of YouTuber Old Grandpa Joe, providing a Hull City perspective. S5 Ep 68AFC Bournemouth 1-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

The automatic promotion dream came to an end as Bournemouth's second half performance saw them take the points with a late goal from Kieffer Moore, who always scores against Forest. The Reds had some cause to be aggrieved after the linesman's flag wrongly denied them a certain penalty, and Steve Cooper was not impressed when the officials apologised to him afterwards. Steven Toplis and Baz review the match and the Reds' performance. In truth, the best team won on the night and you cannot argue that Bournemouth don't deserve it over 46 games - congratulations to them. We also send our very best wishes to Steve Cook and his family, after the awful news of Cookie Sr's cardiac arrest just before the game. Get well soon. S5 Ep 67Nottingham Forest 5-1 Swansea City: The 1865 Match Report

A thumping victory from the Reds, but it could and should have been more. On a day when Bournemouth remained in pole position, Forest ensured that they were keeping the pressure on for the final automatic promotion place. Sam Surridge's hat-trick was the highlight, with Cyrus Christie's farcical own goal and Alex Mighten's scrambled effort ensuring that the Reds kept a healthy goal difference, as this could still be crucial. In this extended podcast, Rich Ferraro and Baz discuss a first half that was frankly insane, a second period in which Forest stamped their authority on the game, and the atmosphere before, during and after the match. We also discuss how the Reds will be feeling, and whether Bournemouth are rattled, before Tuesday night's head-to=head encounter, in what is surely the Reds' biggest game in years. S5 Ep 66Fulham 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

An outstanding night for Forest as they battled and fought their way to a clean sheet and an excellent three points away to champions-elect Fulham. Philip Zinckernagel's scrambled goal (with an assist from the gaffer) was enough to secure the points, but that only tells half the story. Steven Toplis and Tom Newton discuss a famous night for Forest, with a home fans' view from Matt from the Fulham Focus podcast. The Reds are now within three points of second-placed Bournemouth, and level on goal difference; one game at a time ... one game at a time... S5 Ep 65Peterborough United 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

A narrow win for Forest drew them one step closer to the play-offs but relegated plucky Peterborough United. Sam Surridge's goal just before half-time came after excellent work on the counter-attack from Philip Zinckernagel and Brennan Johnson, and despite the home team's continued efforts, Forest had enough to see the game out. The Maradona of the Midlands and Steven Toplis report on a victory that was very different from last week's thumping win over West Bromwich Albion. S5 Ep 64Nottingham Forest 4-0 West Bromwich Albion: The 1865 Match Report

A thumping victory for Steve Cooper's Reds, as they bounced back from Good Friday defeat against Luton Town. Forest completely controlled most of the match, and goals from Johnson, Yates, Colback and Surridge grabbed the points. Jack Colback's effort has gone viral as a goal of the season contender, but did he really mean it? The visitors were bad-tempered, and although Steve Bruce grumbled about the incorrect award of a throw-in, it is difficult to overstate how poor his tactical setup was, even before Darnell Furlong's early red card for two bookings. The second half was not exciting to watch, but again, the Reds were in control as the Baggies barely got into the Forest half. Rich Ferraro and Steven Toplis review the match, with a view from the away end from Louis of the Baggies Podcast. S5 Ep 63Luton Town 1-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

The referee and his team took centre stage at Kenilworth Road, as a controversial penalty and some baffling decisions left Steve Cooper furious. Forest had decent chances but Grabban and Zinckernagel will both feel that they should have done better, while Djed Spence's goal was wrongly ruled out for offside (yes, the rules are odd, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be enforced). Luton suffered themselves, as Sonny Bradley received a second yellow card when Sam Surridge should have been called offside. Rich Ferraro is joined by Luton supporter Ryan McCole to get a view from the opposition, and Tom Newton also joins the discussion, fresh from the away end at Kenilworth Road. S5 Ep 62Nottingham Forest 2-0 Birmingham City: The 1865 Match Report

Steve Cooper's Mighty Reds ascended to third in the league, albeit in a match overshadowed by a serious-looking injury to visiting keeper Neil Etheridge. Forest took an early lead with Keinan Davis' blasted finish, although that only told part of the story as the build up evoked memories of the Chuckle Brothers and the Isley Brothers. After Etheridge was stretchered off midway through the second period, the mighty Scott McKenna sealed the points with a header from Jimmy Garner's corner. Rich Ferraro and Baz review the match, with a view from the away end from Tom of the Blues Focus Podcast. Rich and Baz then dare to dream - with five consecutive victories, favourable results elsewhere, and second-placed Bournemouth having a tricky run-in, can the Reds really challenge for automatic promotion? S5 Ep 61Nottingham Forest 2-0 Coventry City: The 1865 Match Report

Another hard-fought victory from the Reds, perhaps lacking in style and panache but making up for that with grit and determination, against a decent Coventry team and a baffling referee. After the match, Steve Cooper claimed that he wasn't aware that this win put Forest in the play-off places! However, he did comment on the need to keep up the momentum, not only in results but also playing style and game plan. Steven Toplis and Baz review the match, with a view from the away end from Glenn of Sky Blue Fans TV. S5 Ep 60Blackpool 1-4 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

A real statement victory from the Reds, as they were ruthless in the first half against a Blackpool team who will have had their own play-off ambitions. An early deflected effort by Philip Zinckernagel was added to by two brilliantly taken goals from man-of-the-moment Brennan Johnson. We also have kind words to say about the whole team, but there is a special mention for Scott McKenna, who is still supposed to be injured! Rich Ferraro is joined by Adam, who had just returned from his day out at the seaside, as we discuss all the action, the post-match reactions from the two managers, and we are pleased to offer praise to the referee! S5 Ep 59"Five Year Plan": The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, March 2022

As we get to the business end of the season, Rich Ferraro is joined by Steven Toplis, Tom Newton and Baz to reflect on Forest's current prospects. In the wake of good league form and after an unfortunate cup exit, do Steve Cooper's squad have enough physical and mental resources to gain a top six finish (or better)? Also this month, we talk about the wonderful atmosphere at the City Ground, with guest contributor Stuart Levy, and talk about a few off-the-pitch issues, such as the Fans' Q&A sessions and a new appointment to the club's board of directors. All this, and we have a game of Guess That Red, Jeremy Davies' 1865 Sketch, and another competition courtesy of our sponsors The Terrace: listen to the podcast and email your answer to [email protected] by 6pm on Friday 1st April. S5 Ep 58Nottingham Forest 0-1 Liverpool: The 1865 Match Report

Gutted but proud, Steve Cooper's Reds gave Liverpool a run for their money and could have snatched a result. In the tightest quarter-final of the weekend, Forest had enough chances to win this but were thwarted by a well-taken goal by Diogo Jota, just after Philip Zinckernagel should have put the Reds in the lead. Jota probably was onside, and the challenge by Allison on Ryan Yates probably wasn't a penalty, but it didn't stop the accusations about LiVARpool; as Cooper said, it would have been interesting to see what decisions would have been made at the other end of the pitch. Rich Ferraro is joined by the Maradona of the Midlands and Liverpool fan Johnny Shah to review the match itself, with special mentions for Yates and man of the match Joe Worrall; we also comment on the cost and value of Liverpool's team, especially after the quadruple substitution, and there are a few words about Jurgen Klopp. We also ask Tom Newton and Baz to join us to reflect on the match - could we really have won it, and what does this say about whether Forest could hold their own if they got promoted? S5 Ep 56Nottingham Forest 3-1 Queens Park Rangers: The 1865 Match Report

A blistering comeback from Forest was kickstarted by a thunderbastard from Djed Spence, as Forest eventually stteamrollered a stubborn and niggly QPR side. In a match that was another great advert for the Championship, despite a torrential downpour and a soggy pitch, Forest showed their ability throughout, but it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play when Andre Gray ran between the lines, converting Ilias Chair's excellent throughball from a tight angle. For all that Forest were trying to overcome the shirt pulling and constant niggles, it needed something special to get the Reds back in the match, as Djedmond Spence conjured up a swerving shot into the top corner. After that, it still could have swung either way, but the forces of footballing good prevailed as Ryan Yates' deflected effort from a corner hit home, and then Brennan Johnson sealed the victory after sub Cafu's effort was well-saved following a counter-attack by subs Joe Lolley and Sam Surridge. S5 Ep 55Nottingham Forest 4-0 Reading: The 1865 Match Report

Two goals from Keinan Davis set Forest on their way to an emphatic victory against relegation-threatened Reading. The Reds couldn't have made a better start, with Joe Worrall's throughball, Djed Spence's cross and Davis' turn and finish putting the home team in the lead after just 17 seconds! However, the rest of the first half was flat at best, with Ethan Horvath having to make a crucial save and Forest players struggling to play on the front foot. Max Lowe's enforced substitution enabled a tactical tweak, with sub Cafu playing in the hole, enabling Jimmy Garner to drop back into central midfield, and The Reds reaped the benefits in the second half. All the goals were tidy, with Yates and Surridge putting the seal on the victory, but it was the second goal that got everyone talking: Davis received the ball with his back to goal 25 yards out, and in one move he turned and shrugged off three men, before approaching the box and curling home a fine finish. Power, pace, confidence and finesse - this goal was Collymore-esque. The game ended on a sombre note however, as Davis' rival for man of the match, Steve Cook, limped off with a painful looking injury, and with all subs used, Forest finished the game with ten men. The Maradona of the Midlands and Rich Ferraro dissect the game, discussing memories of Jack Lester, the contributions of Yates and Surridge, and Steve Cooper's tactical tweaks. S5 Ep 54Nottingham Forest 2-1 Huddersfield Town: The 1865 Match Report

In another televised match that will get casual football fans wanting to watch the Championship, Forest progressed to the quarter finals of the FA Cup at the expense of play-off rivals Huddersfield. After a strong start, Sam Surridge scored a brilliant goal which was wrongly disallowed for offside, and there were echoes of the league match against the Terriers when Tom Lees headed home barely two minutes later. The Reds looked shell-shocked but regained their composure, with Ryan Yates' lungbusting run leading to Surridge's emphatic finish to equalise, and the home team then took the lead before half-time when Yates' strong header made the net bulge. The second half was slightly more scrappy but still combative, as sub Danny Ward warmed Ethan Horvath's gloves twice, while Spence and Garner both put the ball over the bar when it looked easier to score. Overall, a good performance and a great result, cementing a quarter final at home to Liverpool. Rich Ferraro and Tom Newton discuss the match, with special mentions for Yates, Surridge, Davis, Horvath and of course Stevie Cooper; we also get a view from the away end from Brady Frost of the Huddersfield podcast "And He Takes That Chance". S5 Ep 53Sheffield United 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

This was a great advert for The Championship, as Ryan Yates' stoppage-time goal rescued a point for the Reds, who had trailed to Billy Sharp's 70th minute header. In truth, Forest should have wrapped it up before the Blades scored, with decent chances for Davis, Zinckernagel and Cook; Brennan Johnson will also go back to practising penalties at the training ground as his first half spot kick was easily saved by Wes Foderingham. It was 70 minutes of wondering how we hadn't scored, and then 25 minutes of fearing that we would get battered; but good saves by Ethan Horvath, along with great tackles by Cook and Zinckernagel (yes, really), and a poor pass from Daniel Jebbison gave the Reds the opportunity to snatch a share of the spoils right at the death. Rich Ferraro and Baz discuss whether this was two points dropped or one gained. 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. After an up-and-down few weeks at The City Ground, with outstanding victories against the likes of Derby, Blackburn and Leicester in the cup, but a disappointing defeat at Cardiff and a lacklustre display away to Preston, before the Reds got back on track against Bristol City at the weekend. S5 Ep 51Nottingham Forest 2-0 Bristol City: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. After a little bit of a grind in the midweek draw at Preston, Forest were back on form against a Bristol City side who would have been grateful to only lose by two goals. A first half shot by Brennan Johnson and a second half effort by Jimmy Garner saw the Reds take the points, but it could have been so much more. Rich is joined by Baz to discuss the contributions of the forward players, provide a status report on Ethan Horvath, and to wax lyrical again about Spence and Lowe as attacking full-backs. S5 Ep 50Preston North End 0-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. It was hardly a vintage match and it was definitely not a great performance from the Reds, as apart from a bright opening, they were outplayed by a high-pressing Preston team. Forest were struggling to make their game work and, apart from a penalty shout in the first few minutes, and a dangerous cross from Djed Spence at the death, there was a lack of postive action. On the other hand, Preston will feel as though they should have taken their chances and claimed all the points. As Steve Cooper pointed out, on these nights, you are grateful for the point; however, some fans were questioning the tactical choices and lack of substitutions made by the gaffer. Steven Toplis and Tom Newton discuss the match in our 50th podcast of the season; hopefully a win against Bristol City will make the 51st feel a bit happier. S5 Ep 49Nottingham Forest 2-2 Stoke City: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We predicted that this would be a tough match against an in-form Stoke team, and so it proved. Forest were second best in the first half, but held on, and actually took the lead before the hour mark when sub Sam Surridge played a ball out to the left wing, and Max Lowe's peachy cross was converted by the onrushing Brennan Johnson. The visitors equalised through Josh Maja, and a combination of the woodwork and Brice Samba kept the Reds in it. The last 5-10 minutes were another story though; just as Steve Cooper made his last two attacking substitutions, Samba got himself stupidly and deservedly sent off for cuffing Josh Tymon around the head. Joe Worrall took the gloves and his first duty was to pick the ball out of the net from Lewis Baker's penalty. However, Forest just keep going, and when Jimmy Garner's free kick hit the bar, Scott McKenna got his head to it and Ryan Yates converted from close range to rescue the point. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to discuss the match, the keeper, the pitch invader and the referee, as well as the pick of the Reds players. We also hear a view from the opposition, as we are once again joined by Ben Rowley from Stoke podcast The YYY Files. S5 Ep 48Blackburn Rovers 0-2 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Another enjoyable away day sees Forest move into the Championship playoff places for the first time this season, continuing the remarkable turnaround Steve Cooper has masterminded since arriving at The City Ground. A first-half goal from James Garner and a penalty from Brennan Johnson in the closing minutes of the match secured a 2-0 success for the Reds, who took the game to Blackburn with a mixture of skill, guile and determination and were rewarded with the points against a side who are well in the mix for an automatic promotion spot. Steven is joined by Tom and they talk about the brilliance of Keinan Davis, Garner's reward for his fine recent performances, the warrior-like spirit from the back three and more examples of how Cooper is simply getting it right as Forest boss. 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. An extended match report on a special day at the City Ground as a first-half salvo saw the Reds blitz Premier League Leicester and progress to the Fifth Round of the FA Cup. Goals from Zinckernagel, Johnson, Worrall and Spence gave the home team a comfortable cushion that was only briefly threatened when an error from Brice Samba saw Kelechi Iheanacho pull a goal back just before half-time (the pigeon was awarded MOTM for the away team). Rich Ferraro and Baz talk through the goals, the performances, Warrior Worrall and also the less savoury moments such as the violence of Leicester fans in town and at the ground. We also talk about how this result will mean little unless the newly beefed-up squad can keep picking up the points in the League, starting at Blackburn on Wednesday. S5 Ep 46Transfer window special: The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Nottingham Forest's transfer window saw new players arrive at the very beginning (Keinan Davis, Steve Cook), middle (Richie Laryea) and end (Sam Surridge and Jonathan Panzo). Just as importantly a number of players left, including Joao Carvalho, Lyle Taylor and Carl Jenkinson, along with more recent acquisitions Rodrigo Ely and Mo Drager. However, the highest profile transfer activity was the retention of Brennan Johnson, with the Reds resisting a big money offer from Brentford, and also Djed Spence for the rest of the season. Rich Ferraro is joined by Steven Toplis and our very own new signing, the Cycling Defender to discuss incomings, outgoings and retentions. We also discuss the loss of skipper Lewis Grabban due to injury, and whether the last month demonstrates that the club are now being more strategic with how they are building a squad. We don't even have time to discuss the FA Cup tie against Leicester or forthcoming six pointers in the league. S5 Ep 45Cardiff City 2-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. A bad day for Forest at Cardiff as they failed to turn up, conceding a cheap early goal and never really recovering. Jordan Hugill was given the freedom of the Reds' half after just six minutes and made no mistake, and more lax defending in the second half saw sub Isaak Davies score a second goal after the hour mark. Realistically, the match was over, although a late chance for Xande Silva and a stoppage-time consolation from Keinan Davis offered brief glimmers of hope. Steve Cooper acknowledged that Forest only had themselves to blame and it was possibly the Reds' worst showing since the gaffer took charge. Also worryingly, senior players Steve Cook and Lewis Grabban succumbed to injury, with the skipper taking the brunt of a robust challenge from Will Vaulks and being helped off the pitch in some pain. In this extended match report, Rich Ferraro and Steven Toplis discuss the Reds' poor performance, a couple of questionable refereering decisions, and also whether the injury situation will force Forest's hand on the last day of the transfer window. S5 Ep 44Nottingham Forest 3-0 Barnsley: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Forest continued their winning ways by seeing off bottom side Barnsley in front of a bumper Tuesday evening crowd of 27,000 at The City Ground. After a quiet opening, Forest took the lead on 15 minutes when Keinan Davis dispossed Mads Andersen, before striding through and slotting the ball into the corner for his first goal in a Reds shirt since joining on loan from Aston Villa. Steve Cooper's side doubled their lead seven minutes before the break as Ryan Yates finished off a flowing move, which involved an incisive Jack Colback pass to release Brennan Johnson down the left, where he put a superb cross in which Yates tapped home, timing his run into the box perfectly. A slow start to the second half saw little action but Forest stepped it up again and added a third on 75 minutes. Djed Spence carried the ball down the right flank, seeing off the attention of several Barnsley defenders, he rolled the ball inside where Johnson stroked it first time into the far bottom corner to cap off a comfortable victory. The Reds saw an effort by Steve Cook saved and a Xande Silva strike hit the post as they went on to secure a win which moves them closer to the Championship playoff places. Steven is joined by Tom Newton to reflect on Forest's win, including the influence Brennan Johnson is having on the side, how Forest got the job done on the night and Steve Cooper's post-match comments, where he made reference to 'that' Charlton game and was keen to avoid a repeat, following the high of the Derby victory on Saturday. S5 Ep 43Nottingham Forest 2-1 Derby County: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. A derby day that had the lot; a Forest win, drama, memorable goals and even a bust-up at the end! This Saturday lunchtime clash saw Forest secure a 2-1 victory over Derby and extend their unbeaten run against their rivals to 10 matches. Forest lined up without the injured Joe Worrall, so Ryan Yates moved into the back three alongside Steve Cook and Scott McKenna, whilst ex-Derby man Max Lowe made his return from the sidelines at left wing-back. However, an uninsipiring start saw Steve Cooper switch to a 4-3-2-1 formation in the first half, but aside from a huge miss by Derby's Tom Lawrence, the opening 45 didn't offer much. The second half got off to a flyer, as Lewis Grabban netted his third goal in as many games and 13th of the season, pouncing after Cook's attempted shot was blocked into his path. With eight minutes remaining, Brennan Johnson started and finished a fine move, exchanging passes with Philip Zinckernagel before firing into the bottom corner of the net for 2-0. Derby pulled a goal back from the penalty spot through Lawrence, at which point the midfielder was barged out of the way by Brice Samba (sporting a headband after a previous accidental clash with the Derby no. 10), sparking a heated clash inside the goal. The visitors, in the midst of their well-publicised off-field issues, couldn't find an equaliser. Ravel Morrison was given a straight red for a reckless challenge on Zinckernagel, while at the final whistle another melee broke out as the Forest players and fans enjoyed their victory, with the Reds retaining the Brian Clough Trophy. The Maradona of the Midlands is joined by Baz and Steven to talk over an eventful East Midlands Derby, where they look at the tactical battle of the first half, Forest's improved second half showing, the brilliance of Brennan's goal and Samba having the Derby players on strings. S5 Ep 42Transfers, tactics and TikTok: The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, January 2022

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We've already had some exciting match reports for you since the turn of the year, but this month's discussion gives us a chance to reflect further on two outstanding results, as the Reds bounced back from Covid and back-to-back league defeats: Tactics: the Arsenal and Millwall victories suggest that Steve Cooper has a blueprint of "keep it solid then strike" - or at least, they do when they have a full squad available. We also discuss how the Reds are able to keep going for 90+ minutes. Transfers: Forest struck early in the window, making two solid-looking signings in Keinan Davis and Steve Cook, with full-back Richmond Laryea following shortly afterwards and Djed Spence seemingly extending his stay at the City Ground. Will there be any outgoings though? We also show appreciation to veteran skipper Lewis Grabban, and compare his captaincy style to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paolo Maldini and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There's still time to pay our respects to local broadcasting legend Colin Slater, discuss a 5-a-side team made up of the kids of ex-Forest players, and Jeremy Davies joins us with his monthly sketch. S5 Ep 41Millwall 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. What is it about this Forest team and late goals?! This time it was a 91st minute winner from Lewis Grabban that secured a dramatic victory for Steve Cooper's side at The New Den, after a see-saw second half which saw chances galore for Forest, as well as several opportunities for the hosts, who were twice denied brilliantly by Brice Samba in the Forest net. Grabban replaced Philip Zinckernagel in the starting XI, playing just behind Keinan Davis, but it was Forest who struggled to get much going in the first half, only coming into proceedings just before the break. The Reds were much-improved in the second, with some fluent passing from Ryan Yates and James Garner, the guile of Grabban and Davis and the lively Brennan Johnson causing Millwall all kinds of problems. The game saw plenty of chances come and go for both sides, with Forest in particular forcing good saves out of Bartosz Bialkowski in the Lions goal and seeing efforts cleared off the line, before Grabban stepped up with minutes remaining to send the travelling Forest fans wild. Steven is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a match where Forest's staying power once again came to the fore. They talk about the importance of Lewis Grabban to the side, how the Reds approached the game in the right manner as well as the belief and determination that the team continues to show under Cooper. S5 Ep 40Nottingham Forest 1-0 Arsenal: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Well, that was enjoyable wasn't it?! Forest knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup in the third round again with a memorable victory on Trentside. On a night where the Reds delivered a superb team performance, Lewis Grabban netted the deciding goal on 83 minutes when he steered home a terrific cross from the right by Ryan Yates, giving Steve Cooper's Forest a victory that left The City Ground crowd delighted. Steven is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a match where Forest were committed, resolute but also threatening when they had the ball. They talk about the promising debuts of new signings Steve Cook and Keinan Davis, how Cooper set Forest up to go on and win the game, as well as the continued brilliance of Djed Spence, who impressed fans up and down the country with his display. The result means Forest will be back in cup action at the beginning of Feburary, when they face neighbours and holders Leicester City in the fourth round. S5 Ep 39Nottingham Forest 0-1 Huddersfield Town: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. It's a bit of a shock to the system to lose two matches in a row after the run that Forest have been on since Chris Hughton left, but a Covid-disrupted Reds team will feel that they should have got at least a point, and probably three, out of this one - they certainly had enough chances. Baz is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a match where Huddersfield only had three real shots on target, but scored the only goal; whereas Forest just couldn't put the ball in the net. Was Steve Cooper out-manoeuvred tactically by Carlos Corberan, or was the defeat down to the lack of depth in the Forest squad? 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. S5 Ep 36Nottingham Forest 2-1 Hull City: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Another victory for Forest, but a hard-fought one where the Reds had to come from behind and overcome losing two players to injury. It was a murky day by the Trent, and with the spectre of Covid causing disruption to football and our Christmas plans, this was a day when things could have gone awry, especially after Kean Lewis-Potter opened the scoring just before the break. However, second half goals from Lewis Grabban (pen) and Brennan Johnson saw the home team claim victory and the fans leave with smiles on their faces. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to talk about the misfortunes of Jordi Osei-Tutu and Alex Mighten, who both made good contributions before succumbing to injury; a controversial penalty; and the brilliance of Johnson's finish when bagging the winning goal. S5 Ep 35Swansea City 1-4 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Forest go from strength to strength under Steve Cooper with a brilliant 4-1 win at Swansea City; the Reds putting in a clinical performance against Cooper's former employers and providing the travelling Reds supporters with a day to remember. The first half was a goalless affair, with Swansea just edging it on chances created. However, the second half saw five goals, four of them for the visitors! Philip Zinckernagel got things going with a ferocious strike from just inside the area on 48 minutes before Lewis Grabban doubled Forest's lead two minutes later after a fine move orchestrated by Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson down the right. Joel Piroe made it 2-1 with a shot that deflected in off Ryan Yates but Johnson restored the two-goal cushion soon after as he pounced on a mistake by Swans goalkeeper Ben Hamer. Swansea pushed in the closing stages but Cooper's men wrapped things up in injury time as Cafu fired home Lyle Taylor's cutback to seal a tremendous win. Steven Toplis is joined by Tom Newton to reflect on events in South Wales, including Forest's clinical qualities, Cooper's continued impact, the return of Jordi Osei-Tutu and our new centre-back - Ryan Yates!
