S7 Ep 42Bournemouth 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

A great goal by Callum Hudson-Odoi was the only real moment of quality in a scrappy game that was epitomised by Phillip Billing's red card for a nasty challenge on the Reds winger. Forest had conceded an early goal in a slow start, and after the late sending off, will feel that they should have got more from the game. Steven Toplis is joined by Adam after a long journey back from the south coast; we also hear from Bournemouth fan Jon Spark from the Cherries Red Army podcast. S7 Ep 40Nottingham Forest 1-2 Arsenal: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

A defeat that wasn't that surprising on paper, but was disappointing in practice as mistakes at the back (yes, including another one from Matt Turner) cost the Reds two goals. A glimmer of hope came with the return of Taiwo Awoniyi and Antony Elanga, but the former's late goal proved to be nothing more than a consolation. Baz is joined by Tom Newton for a discussion of the match - key topics include pitchforks, military surveillance equipment and "poppadom wrists". We also get a view from the opposition, from Arsenal fan Chris Harwood, who seems to be more fond of Matt Turner than most Forest fans right now. S7 Ep 39Bristol City 0-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 FA Cup Match Report

It wasn't exactly the most exciting game, but at least Forest kept their first clean sheet since Nuno Espirito Santo took charge. In reality, there wasn't really much for either keeper to do, with both Danilo and Callum Hudson-Odoi hitting the side netting, and Cameron Pring doing likewise for the hosts. It's back to the City Ground in ten days or so for a replay. Match report presented by Steven Toplis with George Edwards. S7 Ep 37Brentford 3-2 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

It was defeat for Forest on Ivan Toney Day, as Ivan Toney's Brentford came back from an early deficit to win the game, with returning hero Ivan Toney unprecedently getting Sky Sports' Player of the Match award before the game even started. In reality, Forest will be kicking themselves about two of the goals conceded, and it would be nice to have a game where we weren't talking about our goalkeeper. Steven Toplis is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a controversial moment and whether Forest should have got more from the game. S7 Ep 32Nottingham Forest 2-2 Blackpool: The 1865 FA Cup Match Report

Hmm. After the high of the victories over Newcastle and Man Utd, Forest were almost brought crashing down to earth when they fell two goals down at home to League One Blackpool in the first half an hour, with ex-Red Jordan Gabriel scoring the first (and refusing to celebrate). Fortunately Nico Dominguez headed home to make it 1-2 before half-time, and Morgan Gibbs-White's rocket in the second half saved the Reds from total embarrassment. Despite some chances, Forest will need a replay, disrupting the plans for a winter break. Steven Toplis is joined by Adam to discuss the match. S7 Ep 30Nottingham Forest 2-1 Manchester United: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

The Reds recorded their first win over Manchester United in many a year, with goals from Nico Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White sandwiching Marcus Rashford's effort (following a goalkeeping ricket from Matt Turner). Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz and Jeremy Davies to discuss Nuno's game plan with two number 10s, the benefits of counter-attacking and the fate of our hapless goalkeeper. We are joined by Jon from the Magnificent 24_7 Manchester United podcast to provide the view from the away end. We will be back next week with the Friday 5 and a report on the Blackpool FA Cup tie - in the meantime, thank you for listening in 2023 and wishing you a Happy New Year. S7 Ep 28Newcastle United 1-3 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

It was a wonderful Christmas present for Reds fans as Chris Wood's hat-trick gave the Reds all the points against the striker's former club. Nuno Espirito Santo made a number of changes to his team but targeted pace down the wings and got a deserved win as a result. Rich Ferraro is joined by George Edwards to discuss the view from the away end and a happy, if long, day for the Forest fans. We get a Geordie view from Jack of the Toon Under Podcast, and we also try and reflect upon what went right, and how the new Head Coach can make sure it wasn't just a flash in the pan. S7 Ep 27Nottingham Forest 2-3 Bournemouth: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

The headlines for Nuno's first game were dominated by the referee, who dropped an enormous clanger by sending off Willy Boly and then compounded it (alongside VAR) by not giving anything when Adam Smith handled the ball whilst in the area. Unfortunately the upshot is that, like last year, Forest gave up the lead at home to Bournemouth and ended up on the losing team. Steven Toplis hosts the discussion with Baz and Tom Newton, with the Reds' lack of defensive solidity and the goalkeeping conundrum as hot topics. Can ex-keeper Nuno make a difference? We also welcome Jon Sparks from Cherries Red Army with a view from the away end. S7 Ep 25Steve Cooper sacked: 1865 Podcast Special

For our 25th podcast this season, we reflect upon the tenure of Steve Cooper, who was today sacked as Head Coach of Nottingham Forest. We discuss the highs of his time in charge, and why we loved him; we also think about the reasons why results have declined and what might have gone wrong. With Nuno Espirito Santo expected to be confirmed as the new Forest Manager, we talk about the potential reasons for his appointment, and what he might bring - we will have more on this later in the week, after his appointment is rubber-stamped. Presented by Rich Ferraro, with a panel of Steven Toplis, Maradona of the Midlands, Tom Newton and Baz, with Ellie, Adam and Producer Romeo. S7 Ep 24Nottingham Forest 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

Despite a creditable performance, it was another home defeat for the Reds as they lacked quality in both boxes. Richarlison scored in first half stoppage time before Dejan Kulusevski embarrassed Matt Turner to double the lead. Yves Bissouma's red card could have offered Forest a lifeline, but Harry Toffolo and Neco Williams were unfortunate to be denied by visiting keeper Vicario. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to discuss the game, with a view from the away end by JP from The Cheese Room Podcast. As well as discussing the game, we have to talk about the elephant in the room - relegation is now a plausible threat and the Head Coach's position looks increasingly precarious with each week without a win. S7 Ep 22Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

Steve Cooper went for seven first team changes to stop the rot, and to an extent it worked as the Reds showed a better level of performance and effort to gain a point - and it could have been three as Harry Toffolo should have added to his first-half header which would surely have seen Forest get the win. Steven Toplis is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a game which saw Cooper go back to basics, with the fans once again showing their love for the Head Coach. Rich Ferraro also chips in with his views of the pragmatic approach, and we get a view from Molineux from Dave of the Talking Wolves Podcast. S7 Ep 21Fulham 5-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

It was nothing short of a disaster at Craven Cottage, as Forest produced arguably the worst performance of Steve Cooper's tenure, leaving the Head Coach looking nervously over his shoulder. Two goals each from Alex Iwobi and the Ghost of Raul Jimenez, plus a closer from Forest-supporting Tom Cairney, frankly embarrassed the Reds on a night with no redeeming features. George Edwards and Steven Toplis share their thoughts after a deep breath and a night's sleep. What does this display tell us about the commitment of the players? Do the Forest supporters really back Steve Cooper? And was the gaffer's apologetic wave at the end an acknowledgment that the end is nigh? S7 Ep 20Nottingham Forest 0-1 Everton: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

Losing one home match feels unlucky, losing two in a row feels like something else. The Reds were deservedly defeated in a game where the first goal was clearly going to be important, and after the referee and VAR didn't spot a clear penalty on Ryan Yates, Dwight McNeil made the breakthrough. Rich Ferraro is joined by Maradona of the Midlands and Adam to discuss a day when nothing really worked for Forest, and the fans booed the team off on 90 minutes, with some accusing the players of a lack of desire, and the gaffer of a lack of ideas. The view from the opposition comes from Mike Richards from The Unholy Trinity Podcast. S7 Ep 19Nottingham Forest 2-3 Brighton: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

Forest suffered a rare home defeat, but in reality Brighton were the better team. Had it not been for a penalty and an, ahem, interesting red card for visiting skipper Lewis Dunk, the Reds would probably have been dead and buried. As it is, they will rue missed chances, with both Morgan Gibbs-White and Ryan Yates wishing they had done better. Steven and Baz discuss the game, the team selection and the refereeing performance which dominated the post-match discussion; it's fair to say that both sides were pretty unhappy with the performance of Anthony Taylor. We'll be back for the must-win home match against Everton. November's Forest Ramble discussion is here! This month, Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz, Tom and Steven to cover: Everton receive a points deduction; what does this mean for the Premier League? Steve Cooper’s game plan - is the Reds’ success contingent upon listening to the gaffer? What will success look like for Forest this season? As usual, we will also hear the opinions of you, the listeners, we’ll have our monthly quiz and Jeremy Davies will be along with his latest Sketch. S7 Ep 17West Ham 3-2 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

West Ham topped and tailed this game with soft goals which gave the hosts all three points. Inbetween, Taiwo Awoniyi and Antony Elanga had equalised, then put the Reds in front, before individual mistakes put the Hammers in control and left Steve Cooper desperately frustrated. Rich is joined by George who is fresh back from the London Stadium, to discuss the match, the atmosphere and game management. We also hear from Will of We Are West Ham with the opposition view, and the thoughts of you, the Forest fans. We'll be back in the international break to review our progress. S7 Ep 15Nottingham Forest 2-0 Aston Villa: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

It was back to winning ways for Steve Cooper's Reds as goals from Ola Aina and Orel Mangala led to a welcome three points after what felt like a long time without a victory. The Head Coach and his players got most things right on the day, and although Villa probably weren't at their best, a combination of team and fans kept them at bay. Steven Toplis and Ellie Molloson discuss the game, the early goals and the return of a feelgood factor. We also hear from Neil from For The Love Of Paul McGrath with a fair assessment from the away end, and we have a few words for Caiden Storry, the young man who took on the immense responsibility of playing The Last Post in front of 30,000 fans and a worldwide TV audience - well done to Caiden, the fans and players and coaching staff. S7 Ep 15Liverpool 3-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

The sporting weekend was overshadowed by the sudden and tragic death of Panthers forward Adam Johnson, and all of us here at 1865 send our condolences to Adam's nearest and dearest. On the pitch, Forest were very much second best and were never in danger of getting their first win at Anfield since 1969. It started badly when Steve Cooper confirmed that Chris Wood would be injured for a few weeks, just as he was coming into form, and Forest had no recognised attackers. Two goals in four minutes put the Reds behind, with a comedy third conceded as Matt Turner lost his head. Steven Toplis is joined by Tom Newton to review the match, with thoughts on Forest's form and Steve Cooper; we also hear from Neil Atkinson from The Anfield Wrap, sharing his views on the game and an optimistic prognosis for Forest's prospects. S7 Ep 14Nottingham Forest 2-2 Luton Town: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

It was a disppointing outcome following a promising performance. The headlines will show that Chris Wood scored two goals before two late efforts from Luton saw them take a share of the spoils. However, Forest had enough chances to put the match to bed before then, and the fans will feel that a combination of individual mistakes and poor substitutions cost them the win. Steven is joined by Adam to discuss the match, with emotions running high as it feels like a while since the Reds have had a win. We also hear from Baz with his considered thoughts on the game and get a view from the away end by Luton fan Ryan. S7 Ep 12Crystal Palace 0-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

It ended up honours even in a game that was last on Match of the Day, but Forest will be a bit disappointed not to have taken all three points after creating the better chances. Harry Toffolo had an effort from distance, before Morgan Gibbs-White hit the post, and Murillo almost scored a memorable goal with a mazy dribble and shot that was saved by the keeper. In the second half, Gonzalo Montiel was unlucky with two scissor kicks, but on the other hand, Jean-Philippe Mateta should really have scored and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi had his effort blocked by Toffolo. Baz is joined by George Edwards, fresh back from Selhurst Park, to discuss the action and the evolution of Forest's style of play, and to discuss how the new squad is shaping up - after a relegation battle last season, are Forest starting to establish themselves in the Premier League? S7 Ep 11Nottingham Forest 1-1 Brentford: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

The headlines will show that ten man Forest came back to rescue a point, but really the Reds were the better team in the first thirty minutes and should have capitalised. As it was, after Moussa Niakhate's red card, the Bees took the lead with a soft goal - both the Forest defence and Matt Turner should have done better. Luckily, Brentford keeper Flekken had his own moment just a few minutes later, as Nico Dominguez diverted Harry Toffolo's cross to equalise. Baz and Tom Newton discuss the game, the talking points and which team got the rub of the green on a bad weekend for Premier League officials and VAR. We also hear from Billy The Bee with a view from the away end. We'll be back after the Palace match. S7 Ep 10Manchester City 2-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

After ten minutes it looked like this was going the way of last season's match at the Etihad; in fact when Forest conceded the first goal they hadn't even managed to string two passes together and barely had 10% possession. However, they did manage to regroup a bit to keep the score down, and the second half was a different proposition after Rodri's red card. Steve Cooper had mixed feelings, knowing that the Reds had given the Champions a two goal start, but despite the improved second half showing they didn't create enough chances. Our match report is presented by Steven Toplis, with Ellie Molloson fresh back from the away end, and the opposition view coming from Michael of the Perth de la Prem podcast. S7 Ep 9Nottingham Forest 1-1 Burnley: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

A disappointing result at the City Ground, as an attacking looking Reds line-up failed to capitalise, before Burnley took the lead through some neat play down the left presented Zeki Amdouni with his second goal against Forest in just a few weeks. Fortunately, some excellent hold-up play from Taiwo Awoniyi gave the ball to Callum Hudson-Odoi on the corner of the box, and the debutant curled a beauty into the top corner to make it honours even. Following a night with a red card, disallowed goals and VAR controversies, Baz is joined by Tom to discuss the game, Forest's line-up and future prospects. We are also joined by Joe from TurfCast Podcast with the view from the away end, and our Callum joins us to update on the 25-man Forest squad. We'll be back at the weekend. S7 Ep 7Chelsea 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

A fabulous result for Steve Cooper's Reds, as substitute Antony Elanga calmly slotted home on the break after good work by Mangala, Yates and Awoniyi to win the ball and set the winger free. Forest didn't have much possession, but in truth Matt Turner didn't have that much to do, although the Reds will be grateful for Nicholas Jackson's glaring miss. Steven and Tom report on the Reds' first away victory of the season, which can be summed up by Mauricio Pochettino's (paraphrased) statement that teams that don't score don't win many matches. We also hear from Callum Castel who sums up Forest's very busy transfer window for us. S7 Ep 6Nottingham Forest 0-1 Burnley: The 1865 Carabao Cup Match Report

The Reds made an early exit from the Carabao Cup with a home defeat to Vincent Kompany's Burnley. It wasn't a match to remember, and Zeki Amdouni's 90th minute winner was the first shot on target. Ouch. George Edwards is in the podcast hotseat for the first time, and is joined by Adam to review the game, and they discuss the game, the shortcomings of the team and the tactics on the night, with a nod to forthcoming games and the forthcoming transfer deadline. S7 Ep 5Manchester United 3-2 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

It all started so well as very early goals from Taiwo Awoniyi (breaking the record for scoring in consecutive Premier League matches) and Willy Boly fired the Reds into a two-goal lead, but then the home team woke up, with the assistance of one or two refereeing moments; Steve Cooper merely commented how quick the official was to blow the whistle, rather than taking his time. Steven and Tom discuss the action, the tactics and what it takes for an away team to get a victory at Old Trafford. We are also joined by Callum Castel with another bumper news roundup. S7 Ep 4Nottingham Forest 2-1 Sheffield United: The 1865 Premier League Podcast

The Reds got their first win of the season with a fine late header from Chris Wood. It had looked like Forest were the architects of their own downfall, after taking an early lead through Taiwo Awoniyi's header, they looked good, until they ... well, didn't. The visitors were hoping Gustavo Hamer's equaliser after the break would earn a point, but Stevie Cooper's subs made a difference. Maradona of the Midlands is joined by Baz and Adam to discuss the action, the tactics and the City Ground atmosphere, as well as what we are learning about the Forest squad. We are also joined by Callum Castel with a bumper news roundup and we thank Chad from the Red Half Of Sheffield for providing a view from the opposition. S7 Ep 3Arsenal 2-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

It was an opening day defeat at The Emirates, although a late rally from the Reds gave the home team a bit of a scare, when an electric break from Awoniyi and Elanga led to the big number 9 netting his first goal of the season. There's still work to do, as discussed by Steven Toplis, with George Edwards and Ellie Molloson, fresh back from north London. We also hear from Arsenal fan Chris, with his views on the game and what he thinks about Forest. We'll be back with a report after Friday's home match against Sheffield United. S6 Ep 57Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

Waka waka eh eh? The game was probably second to the occasion as Forest's army of travelling fans supported the team to an away point. Having scored Forest's first Premier League goal this season, Taiwo Awoniyi also got the last, hitting double figures in his debut Premier League campaign. However, Will Hughes' header deflected off Willy Boly to earn the hosts a point, which meant that everyone was probably happy enough. Rich Ferraro is joined by Tom and Adam, both fresh back from a long day in the capital, to reflect upon the trip to Selhurst Park and the sense of occasion as the Reds' fans celebrated survival and the players and staff joined in, including Mr Marinakis.
