S5 Ep 34Nottingham Forest 2-0 Peterborough United: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. After three successive Championship draws, Forest got back to winning ways against struggling Peterborough, on a wet and blustery City Ground afternoon. The first half offered very little in terms of quality, although Philip Zinckernagel almost put the Reds ahead within the first minute as his drive from range was tipped away by Posh 'keeper David Cornell, and later Lewis Grabban later fired into the side netting from an angle. The second half was a big improvement; Forest came out pressing Peterborough higher up the pitch, playing with a greater pace and intensity. They were rewarded on 72 minutes as Grabban's miscued finish fell to James Garner in the box to prod home, before Ryan Yates wrapped things up 12 minutes later (even if he didn't know much about it!) as he turned Garner's corner into the net. The performance of the referee (suprise, surprise) frustrated both Forest and Peterborough, particularly the Reds when he turned down a strong second-half handball penalty shout with the score at 0-0. In the end it didn't matter as Forest did what they needed to in order to win, leaving them six points off the playoffs and with a record of 27 points and one defeat from their last 14 games. Rich Ferraro is joined by Steven Toplis to mull over Saturday's events, with Grabban, Garner, the referee and the weather all featuring! S5 Ep 33West Bromwich Albion 0-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Another match, another draw for the Reds. This game was probably not that high on quality but there were some talking points. West Brom huffed and puffed and occasionally got in behind the Forest backline, but they offered little upfront and Brice Samba only had one notable save to make. Forest were similarly blunt in the final third, with Sam Johnstone palming over Brennan Johnson's deflected effort. However, there is still much to be pleased about - Forest were missing Max Lowe and Jack Colback, but were still competitive throughout, and after Jayson Molumby's red card the away side looked the most likely, with attacking substitutions, efforts blocked, and crosses just missed. There was still a get out of jail moment when Jordan Hugill showed a lack of composure in front of goal, but it says a lot that Steve Cooper's Reds were disappointed with an away draw at an ex-Premier League side. S5 Ep 32Nottingham Forest 0-0 Luton Town: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. A goalless draw at the City Ground only tells half the story, on a night short on quality but with plenty of incident. Unfortunately, most eyes were on referee Jeremy Simpson, who was trying to make a name for himself by awarding a penalty to Luton, sending off Jack Colback, and then denying the Reds what looked like a clear penalty at the other end. It says a lot when both managers are unhappy with the officials. Both teams could have won it - Brice Samba saved the pen and then made a great save later on, but Lyle Taylor could have given Forest the lead earlier on. As well as Samba, there were good performances by Scott McKenna and debutant Braian Ojeda. We speak to Luton fan Ryan McCole to discuss the major talking points. S5 Ep 31Reading 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. A draw away at Reading probably feels more like two points dropped, rather than a point gained, especially as the Royals were rocked by a six-point deduction, a host of injuries, and Philip Zinckernagel's excellent early goal. However, the home team went on to be the stronger team for most of the first half, although it took them until 62 minutes to get back into the match after the introduction of sub Andy Carroll. Forest will feel like they had the better chances in the second half, with Lewis Grabban having two efforts of note. Rich Ferraro and the Maradona Of The Midlands discuss the above, as well as Max Lowe and the Colback/Yates axis, and much more. S5 Ep 30The Steve Cooper Revolution: The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, November 2021
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Positive football, positive results and a rapid rise up the table; Steve Cooper has continued to make quite the impression since his appointment as Forest head coach. Steven Toplis is joined by Baz, The Maradona of the Midlands and Tom Newton and Steven Toplis to discuss the impact Cooper has made in his first few weeks at The City Ground and reflect on how watching Forest has suddenly become enjoyable once again. We also discuss the revival of Jack Colback in a red shirt, Lewis Grabban's importance to the side as well as ponder the future of the influential on-loan wingbacks Max Lowe and Djed Spence. Not to mention Jeremy Davies offering his monthly musings, a game of Guess That Red, and another great giveaway courtesy of our friends at theterracestore.com - listen to the podcast and email [email protected] with your reviews by 8pm on Friday 26th November for a chance to win. S5 Ep 29Nottingham Forest 3-0 Preston North End: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. In a break with recent tradition, there were no late goals or comebacks in this one, as Forest recorded a comfortable (in the end) victory over Preston North End. Forest reverted to a 4-2-3-1 formation in an attempt to get the first goal and provide more attacking threat, and although Preston made a confident start, the Reds struck first through Lewis Grabban's penalty. MOTM Jack Colback added a great second goal before half-time. It's worth noting that the Reds didn't have it all their own way - at the start of each half, the visitors exerted pressure, and Grabban's second goal after a jinking, mazy run from Brennan Johnson was needed to put the game to bed. After three matches in a row with (ahem) curious refereeing decisions, Forest probably got the benefit of the doubt for much of this game. Rich Ferraro and Baz report on a welcome three points. S5 Ep 28Nottingham Forest 1-1 Sheffield United: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Late goal? Check. Belief and resilience? Check. The Amazing Djed Spence? Check. "Interesting" refereeing? Check check check it out - the 1865 Match Report is here! Rich Ferraro and Steven Toplis discuss a match that was a great advert for the Championship; despite only one save all match, there was plenty of action, and both teams will feel like they could have taken all three points. After substitute Billy Sharp created the Blades' opener for the excellent Morgan Gibbs-White, our own veteran forward Lewis Grabban came off the bench to score a real striker's goal. The big talking points for the Reds were Jack Colback at left back; the impact of the subs (again); the performance of human Duracell bunny Djed Spence (again); and of course that penalty incident (again) which saw an incredulous Brennan Johnson booked for diving. Most of all, it was telling that, even after conceding on 78 minutes, the fans and team knew that they could get back into the match, and maybe even win it. S5 Ep 27Queens Park Rangers 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. A late late deflected goal from Jack Colback provided the bit of luck that Forest needed to get a point away at QPR. The Reds had played well but struggled with the final ball, and as a result Seny Diang did not have much to do in the Rangers net. On the other hand, QPR scored on the stroke of half time, and could have had more in the second half as the Reds chased the game. Baz is joined by Tom Newton for this review of the game, reflecting on the belief and never-say-die attitude that characterises this Forest team and Head Coach. Unfortunately, there are also more than a few words for this referee, and the standard of officiating in general - even Steve Cooper said that he couldn't talk about it as he didn't want to get into trouble (however, our Tom has no such qualms). S5 Ep 26Nottingham Forest 0-4 Fulham: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Back down to earth with a bump, the Reds paid the price for naivety and silly mistakes, and were punished by a rampant Fulham team, with Aleksandr Mitrovic showing his class with two goals, and Neeskens Kebano scoring an excellent goal on the break. Forest will need to learn from this match, dust themselves down and get back on the horse. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to discuss midfield pivots, turning points, and the referee, who notably drew the ire of Reds gaffer Steve Cooper. S5 Ep 25Bristol City 1-2 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report (extended edition)
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. An extended match report after an extraordinary end to the match, as Lyle Taylor scored twice in stoppage time to take all three points. Alex Scott (not that one) gave Bristol City a first half lead, but the Reds maintained their belief and attacking impetus. It was never really in doubt, was it? Rich Ferraro is joined by The Athletic's Nick Miller for a totally unbiased summary of the game (he got some funny looks for swearing at the ref in the press box) - up for discussion are: hitting the post, and Brice Samba's saves; the penalties that weren't, and the one that was; Lyle Taylor's languid lollop up to the spot; and the limbs following the winning goal. S5 Ep 24Nottingham Forest 2-1 Blackpool: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. At long last, Forest managed to get that elusive home win in the league, at the expense of a Blackpool side who have found their feet in the Championship. Goals from Brennan Johnson and Lewis Grabban earned the victory, despite the Reds being pegged back by a Jerry Yates equaliser following a mix-up between Djed Spence and Brice Samba. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to discuss the feelgood factor at this match - "it was a proper fight", as well as the contributions of Philip Zinckernagel, Jack Colback and Ryan "Pirlo" Yates, as Steve Cooper made tactical tweaks and the right substitutions to see Forest over the line (and once again, knew all the right things to say after the match). S5 Ep 23Belief and confidence: The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, October 2021
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. It feels like a lot has happened in the last month: Chris Hughton was sacked, Forest got their first win of the season under Steven Reid, and Steve Cooper has joined with a charm offensive. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz, Tom Newton and Steven Toplis to discuss tactics and formations, the impact on the players, and Cooper's willingness to engage with the fanbase. Speaking of fans, we also discuss what supporters really want from following their team, with reference to the NFFC Supporters' Trust and the current situation at Newcastle United. All this, and we still have time to hear from Jeremy Davies with his monthly musings, play Guess That Red, and we have another competition for you courtesy of our friends at theterracestore.com - listen to the podcast and email [email protected] with your answer by 8pm on Friday 15th October for a chance to win. S5 Ep 22Birmingham City 0-3 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Another three goals on the road and another three points; Forest made it three away wins on the spin as they ran out 3-0 winners over Birmingham City at St. Andrews. In an entertaining game played on a wet and rainy afternoon, it was Forest who took the lead on 11 minutes as Lewis Grabban thumped home a brilliant 20-yard strike. The hosts threatened to fight back as they caused some scares inthe Reds defence with set pieces, but it was a set piece of their own that saw Forest double their lead, as Ryan Yates headed home a corner on the half hour mark. In the second half a swift, flowing counter attack saw Forest extend their lead further after nice work from Grabban and Philip Zinckernagel released Djed Spence down the right, where the wing-back thumped a finish into the roof of the next for 3-0. Birmingham responded with chances of their own but Brice Samba held firm in the Forest goal, producing a stunning late save from Marc Roberts' header to preserve a clean sheet. The Forest 'keeper was rightly praised by head coach Steve Cooper at the end of the game. It makes it two wins from three for the new Forest boss, with an impressive counter-attacking display that saw Zinckernagel, Grabban and Brennan Johnson in particular pose a constant threat, running the Birmingham defence ragged at times. In our match report Baz is joined by Steven as they talk about the improvements from Jack Colback and Ryan Yates, how Forest are playing with a greater sense of freedom and the continued impact that Steve Cooper is having on his new side. S5 Ep 21Barnsley 1-3 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Steve Cooper took his Forest side to South Yorkshire to face Barnsley - a team who've inflicted damage upon the Reds in recent years - and the new head coach picked up his first win since taking charge with an enjoyable 3-1 success. Forest shaded the first half but it was Barnsley who led on 20 minutes, as Cauley Woodrow converted the penalty he'd won after being hauled down in the box by Tobias Figuereido. Forest fought back in the second half, though, with the introduction of Lewis Grabban for Figuereido and a switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation providing the catalyst for goals. Grabban released Brennan Johnson down the right-hand side and he squared the ball across goal to provide Philip Zinckernagel with a simple tap-in, before Johnson made it 2-1 with a neat finish soon after. Grabban later got his goal after Alex Mighten's trickery saw him get away down the left before sliding the ball across for Grabban to convert. Forest were rewarded for a positive display as they took advantage of gaps in the Barnsley defence and it's possible they could have had even more on a night that provided plenty of enjoyment for the travelling Reds at Oakwell, as well as those watching on TV. Steven is joined by Tom for this match report, where they reflect on the impact Cooper is already having with the team, his positive substitutions on the night and Forest serving up some enjoyable attacking football. S5 Ep 20Nottingham Forest 1-1 Millwall: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Following the first win of the season last weekend, Steve Cooper took charge of Nottingham Forest for the first time as Millwall visited The City Ground. The new head coach started with a point, earned thanks to a second-half fightback after Matt Smith (again!) found the back of the net for the visitors in the first half. Max Lowe equalised for Forest on 52 minutes, picking up the ball from Scott McKenna before firing a cross into the box and also into the back of the net, as it soared over Bartosz Bialkowski in the Millwall goal. The on-loan left-back might not have meant to score, but his goal secured a decent point in the circumstances. Cooper kept faith with the 3-4-2-1 system that worked well in the win at Huddersfield and named an unchanged team. While the Reds might not have hit the heights they did a week ago in South Yorkshire, they did enough to suggest they'll be a more entertaining side to watch this season. Steven is joined by Baz for this match report, where they look at the positives to take from Cooper's first match in charge, the impressive performances of the two Forest full-backs as well as some pockets of discontent that still seem to be evident among the Forest faithful. S5 Ep 19Steve Cooper arrives: 1865 Podcast Special
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Another season and another new manager joins Nottingham Forest - or should we say head coach? After the departure of Chris Hughton last week, former Swansea City boss Steve Cooper has been appointed as head coach at The City Ground. The Welshman, who led the Swans to back-to-back playoff finishes in the Championship, takes charge of the Reds after their first win of the season at the eighth attempt; the 2-0 victory at Huddersfield Town on Saturday under the caretaker stewardship of Steven Reid. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz, Steven Toplis and the Maradona of the Midlands to examine the latest change in the Forest dugout. As well as touching on where it went wrong for Hughton, the panel look at Cooper's pedigree, his style of play and they ask if Forest have finally implemented some form of "strategy" through Cooper's appointment. Tom Morgan from Total Swans TV also joins the team to provide his view on the appointment of Cooper and what Forest fans can expect following his arrival. S5 Ep 18Huddersfield Town 0-2 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Lo and behold, a win! Forest collected three points for the first time in nearly six months, as the managerless Reds scored two goals and kept a clean sheet away at Huddersfield Town. It was noticeable that Forest were trying to get higher up the pitch, and playing three centre backs seemed to give a better balance to the team. In this dogcast, Rich Ferraro and Baz compare and contrast the tactics and performance to what we saw under Chris Hughton; we also hear from Brady from Huddersfield podcast And He Takes That Chance with an opposition fan's view of the high-vis Reds. S5 Ep 17Nottingham Forest 0-2 Middlesbrough: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Forest fell to their sixth defeat in seven Championship matches as Middlesbrough ran out 2-0 winners on another night to forget at The City Ground. Despite a reasonably bright start, Forest fell behind in the 24th minute to a clinical finish from Andraz Sporar before a mistake by goalkeeper Ethan Horvath presented the ball to Onel Hernandez for a simple tap in 18 minutes from time, wrapping up the points for the visitors and keeping Forest bottom of the table. In this match report (recorded before Chris Hughton's sacking) Baz and Steven reflect on what went wrong for the Reds on the night, an atmosphere that was far from enjoyable as well as what the future holds for Forest and how they can turn their season around. S5 Ep 16Nottingham Forest 1-2 Cardiff City: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Forest's woes continued on Sunday afternoon as they were beaten 2-1 by Cardiff at The City Ground, sealing the Reds' worst start to a league season for 108 years and piling futher pressure on manager Chris Hughton. Lewis Grabban netted his first goal of the campaign in the first half as he converted debutant Max Lowe's low cross into the penalty box, following a neat link-up between Lowe and Brennan Johnson down the left-hand side. However, Cardiff turned the game around in the second period as their direct style told; a brace from Rubin Colwill seeing the visitors claim all three points. The result leaves Forest rock bottom of the Championship and in our match report, Steven and The Maradona of the Midlands review another disappointing defeat. They talk about a lack of spark both on and off the pitch, familiar frailties coming back to haunt the Reds and where this latest defeat leaves Hughton. S5 Ep 15"I thought we would be talking about Chris Wilder": The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, September 2021
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. It has been an awful start to the season for Nottingham Forest, with an equally crazy transfer window. We are here to discuss transfers and the conspiracy theory that the players we have signed are more suitable for a back three with wing backs. Did someone say Chris Wilder? In addition, we do talk about Chris Hughton, and whether his tactical rigidity is going to cost him his job. We also have a competition for you, and another edition of our Forest quiz, Guess That Red! Rich is joined by Jeremy Davies, Steven Toplis, Baz, Tom Newton and 1865 debutant Nick Miller, football writer for The Athletic. Like what you hear? S5 Ep 14Derby County 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report (extended edition)
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. An extended match report as Forest picked up their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw at rivals Derby County. After Tom Lawrence put the hosts in front in the first half, Forest responded in the second and were rewarded seven minutes from the end, as Brennan Johnson netted his first senior goal for the Reds with a well-taken strike. In this extended edition of the 1865 Match Report, Steven Toplis is joined by Cory and Jason from Derby podcast Rams Review. They talk over a missed handball, a missed stamping and examine the performances of the two sides, as the Rams were left to rue missed opportunities and the visitors staged a fightback which might just have eased the pressure on under-fire Forest boss Chris Hughton. S5 Ep 13Nottingham Forest 0-4 Wolverhampton Wanderers: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. "Why doesn't he play the kids? They cannot do any worse than the first team." Tonight, against a Wolves team costing nearly £100m (with more on the bench), Forest's kids gave a brave account of themselves but were overpowered by Premier League opposition. The sad thing is that, on some counts, you cannot win - some fans were asking why Hughton didn't play more first teamers! The thing we are all agreed on is that we won't score unless we actually manage some attempts on target. Tom Newton reports from the City Ground. S5 Ep 12Stoke City 1-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Another defeat but worst of all, another non-performance where the Reds barely threatened the Stoke goal. Josh Tymon's goal settled the match and the Forest fans continued to make their voices heard as the pressure piles on Chris Hughton. Ben Rowley from The YYY Files joins us to offer the home fans' perspective, and it doesn't reflect well. Afterwards, I was invited to appear on Talksport2's Game Day Phone-In and shared some of my thoughts. S5 Ep 11Nottingham Forest 1-2 Blackburn Rovers: The 1865 Match Report (extended edition)
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. An extended match report as Forest suffered their third consecutive 2-1 league defeat, in another match marred by poor defending from set pieces, and a lack of cutting edge up front. What was most interesting was that the grumbles on social media became very real, as fans openly questioned Chris Hughton's tactics, selection and substitutions, and even (astonishingly) chanted for former gaffer Sabri Lamouchi. In this special episode, Steven Toplis reviews the action and has an in-depth conversation with Ryan Hildred from Rovers Chat about how Rovers won the game, and just as importantly, how Forest "beat themselves". Ryan is surprised to hear the hostility towards Chris Hughton, but he was also amazed at how poor Forest were. Then Baz gives us an overview of why it just isn't working for Hughton at Forest, and whether there is a comparison with Jose Mourinho's career. S5 Ep 10Forest 1-2 Bournemouth: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. After the kids did us proud against Bradford in the League Cup, it was back down to earth with a bang today as ten-man Bournemouth held out to inflict a 2-1 defeat on the Reds. Despite some promising moments, if the truth be told. Forest did not do enough to get back into this match and Chris Hughton has taken some criticism for not being offensive enough with his subs. Tom Newton reports from the Forest perspective, and we also hear from Jonathan Sparkes from the Cherries Red Army channel, with an away fans' view. Like what you hear? S5 Ep 9Nottingham Forest 2-1 Bradford City: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. THE PORTUGUESE PRINCE IS BACK! Well, that was the headline. Of course, it was *only* Bradford, but Forest fans will have taken real heart from the battling qualities, skill and guile shown by the young Reds in a match that was still a step up from what most of them will have experienced. Particular plaudits go to Fin Back and man of the match Tyrese Fornah, who was wonderfully humble in his post-match interview. The Maradona of the Midlands reports on a pleasing night as fans returned to the City Ground, and the Reds overcame injuries and nine minutes of stoppage time to hold out. S5 Ep 8Coventry City 2-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. A disappointing start to the season as Coventry took the three points with a last gap goal. After a decent first 45 minutes, the Reds ran out of steam and paid the price for poor defending as they conceded first an equaliser, then a stoppage-time winner to a Coventry side buoyed on by their home fans. Tom Newton reports from the Coventry Building Society Arena, and then we are joined by Joey from Coventry podcast the Nii Lamptey Show, to dissect the action, and how much of a difference it made to have fans back in the ground. 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We begin our pre-season countdown by looking back at some of our favourite memories of following Forest through the years. These aren't necessarily great goals or great matches - just something that has stuck in our minds. In the last episode of the current run, the Maradona of the Midlands looks back at one of the great opening day performances by a young Reds team, as Paul Hart took over at the City Ground and the Reds played total football (and Marlon Harewood decked the linesman). 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We begin our pre-season countdown by looking back at some of our favourite memories of following Forest through the years. These aren't necessarily great goals or great matches - just something that has stuck in our minds. Today Jeremy thinks back to an important moment in his formative years - a rare trip to the City Ground, sitting in the away end, when Forest and England skipper Stuart Pearce took matters into his own hands and scored a diving header to liven up an uninspiring match against lower-league Hereford United. 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We begin our pre-season countdown by looking back at some of our favourite memories of following Forest through the years. These aren't necessarily great goals or great matches - just something that has stuck in our minds. Astonishingly, we have another magic moment from our days in League One; Steven Toplis reviews a miserable evening at Oldham as Forest conceded five goals and two red cards, but the Forest fans proved that there ain't no party like a Reds club party. If nothing else, it shows that things could be a lot worse... Like what you hear? Subscribe via your podcast provider, and please leave a review, as it helps other Forest supporters find our content. S5 Ep 31865 Magic Moments Part 3: Gino Padula (yes, really)
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We begin our pre-season countdown by looking back at some of our favourite memories of following Forest through the years. These aren't necessarily great goals or great matches - just something that has stuck in our minds. Today, Tom Newton thinks back to unhappy days under Gary Megson; a woeful Forest team had been relegated, and Megson's attempts to rebuild were nothing short of disastrous - but maligned full-back managed to provide a moment of joy for the away fans at Oakwell. S5 Ep 21865 Magic Moments Part 2: Des Walker
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We begin our pre-season countdown by looking back at some of our favourite memories of following Forest through the years. These aren't necessarily great goals or great matches - just something that has stuck in our minds. In this episode, we look back at a historic moment on a hungover New Year's Day in 1992. A match where more or less nothing happened, and Forest fans were leaving the ground, but then Sir Desmond Sinclair Walker scored his one and only goal in professional football. Like what you hear? 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We begin our pre-season countdown by looking back at some of our favourite memories of following Forest through the years. These aren't necessarily great goals or great matches - just something that has stuck in our minds. To kick off, Baz remembers a memorable derby day that started with a belter by Radi Majewski and ended with a fight over a corner flag - but it was something that Billy Davies did that sticks in his mind. The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. In Part 1 of our season review, we all agree that we wish that this season could be deleted from history. Hangover doesn't even begin to describe it. Rich Ferraro presents views from a number of guests, including Nottingham football journalist George Harbey, Second Tier podcaster Justin Peach, and a guest opinion from Stoke fan Jack Oulton, comparing the situations of two sleeping giants. Plus we get perspectives from a number of Forest supporters, including YouTuber Ben Dore, Pat from The Famous Club, and Reds fans Bethany and Kate. Ep 64Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. Saturday saw Forest travel to Hillsborough to take on relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday. With plenty at stake for the hosts, it was Forest who came closets to scoring, as Lewis Grabban saw his penalty saved by Kieren Westwood in first half injury time. Wednesday created chances in the second and forced a couple of saves from Brice Samba, but in truth neither team looked like carving out big goalscoring opportunities as the match finished goalless. The point takes Wednesday's survival battle into a final day showdown against Derby County, while Forest have their last game of the season at home to Preston to look forward to. We speak to Jamie from Sheffield Wednesday podcast Wednesday Til I Die about the match, the performances of the two sides and how Wednesday will get on their crunch clash next weekend. Ep 63Nottingham Forest 1-1 Stoke City: The 1865 Match Report
The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. The last time Forest hosted Stoke at The City Ground, the hosts saw their play-off hopes dashed by the Potters amid a dramatic evening on Trentside. This time, the match wasn't quite so eventful but Chris Hughton's side did enough to earn a draw and with it, secure Championship safety for next season. After Rabbi Matondo had put Stoke ahead in the first half, Lewis Grabban made up for an earlier miss by netting five minutes into the second period, latching on to a poor piece of defending to poke the ball home. Forest saw more of the ball and edged the game in chances created but had to settle for a point. We speak to Ben Rowley from Stoke podcast The YYY-Files about the game, the performances of Forest and Stoke, their attacking shortfalls and look at where the sides can take stock of this campaign and improve next season. Ep 62Birmingham City 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. Forest were awful. Let's just get that out of the way. If Chris Hughton was annoyed on Saturday, he was fuming last night. Lee Bowyer was also fuming as Birmingham conceded a late late penalty, coolly and ably converted by Lewis Grabban, to rescue a barely-deserved point. We hear from Tom Newton with his thoughts on the match from a Red perspective, and are joined by Matthew Elliott from the We Are Birmingham podcast with his thoughts on the penalty, the referee, and Chris Hughton's Forest. Ep 61Nottingham Forest 0-2 Huddersfield Town: The 1865 Match Report
The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. Forest made a bright start in this one, but failed to take advantage of a nervy-looking Huddersfield defence, and some of us had a feeling how things would go after that. The Reds then helped the Terriers, as James Garner's loose pass sent Aaron Rowe through on goal, and Anthony Knockaert also gave the ball away cheaply, allowing Juninho Bacuna to take a run and shot which powered past Brice Samba. Baz reports on this match, which saw Chris Hughton publicly admonish his players afterwards, warning that Forest are not yet safe from the drop. Like what you hear? Ep 601865 meets ... Radio Nottingham's Alex Noble and Arun Verma
The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. A special podcast, with two very special guests! Rich Ferraro is joined by Alex Noble and Arun Verma from BBC Radio Nottingham, telling us what it is like to be Reds fans talking about Forest on the radio. We discuss the pain and torment of covering the Stoke match last season, as Forest's play-off hopes went down the toilet; we find out their favourite football songs; we have a game of Guess That Red; and we have a quickfire round which inevitably ends up with Arun expressing his love for Joao Carvalho. Ep 59Bristol City 0-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. It was a goalless draw, and a fairly unexciting encounter between two teams now mired in mid-table obscurity - but what a relief for Reds fans to be able to say that after looking over their shoulders all season. Alex Mighten came closest for the visitors, hitting the post in the first half, before former Reds skipper Henri Lansbury returned the favour from the other end, with Brice Samba stranded. Erm, that's about it - neither keeper had much to do, and although Forest were probably the better team, Chris Hughton was disappointed not to have inflicted an eighth straight home defeat on City. Rich Ferraro is joined by Stanley Hughes from the One Stream In Bristol podcast, to dissect the match and wallow in the misery of lockdown football - we didn't even mention the annoying swimming pool noises over the Tannoy. The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. Get in touch to claim your exclusive FanHub Golden Ticket - but hurry as there are only a few left! Following on from their Good Friday victory at Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest hosted Queens Park Rangers on Easter Monday and rounded off the double-header by making it maximum points from their two Easter matches. A confident, attacking display from the Reds saw them comfortably see off Mark Warburton's Rangers, with goals from Alex Mighten, Lewis Grabban and James Garner securing the victory. Mighten's recent bright displays were rewarded with his close-range finish in the first half, while Grabban bagged his fourth of the season as he rifled home a curling drive from 25 yards before Garner rounded off the win. A late consolation for the visitors couldn't take off the shine as Chris Hughton's side put in a dominant display against the in-form Hoops to move 13 points clear of the relegation zone with six games of the season remaining. Steven reflects on an enjoyable Forest display and a level of Forest performance which provides optimism not just for the remainder of this season but for next season too. Like what you hear? The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. Get in touch to claim your exclusive FanHub Golden Ticket - but hurry as there are only a few left! Forest started their Easter programme in the perfect way as they secured a hard-fought victory away at playoff-chasing Cardiff City. On a glorious sunny afternoon in South Wales, James Garner rounded off a neat team move to score the only goal of the game and earn Chris Hughton's Reds all three points. The hosts had a few opportunities in the second half but Forest battled their way to the win and move 10 points clear of the Championship's bottom three in the process. We are joined by Ben Price from the View from the Ninian podcast to discuss events at the Cardiff City Stadium; in particular what Forest did so well on the day to keep Mick McCarthy's men quiet and where this result leaves the Bluebirds in their playoff chase. You, the fans, have also been in touch; is it really possible that Joao Carvalho could come back to Forest next season, and could Forest actually make the top half of the table? Ep 55Brentford 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. Get in touch to claim your exclusive FanHub Golden Ticket - but hurry as there are only a few left! Forest faced another match against one of the Championship top six as they travelled to West London to take on Brentford. The hosts took the lead through an Ivan Toney penalty early in the first half but Forest responded by dominating possession and were rewarded for a positive display just past the hour mark, as Filip Krovinovic netted his first goal for the club, slotting home after The Bees failed to clear Gaetan Bong's cross. For Chris Hughton's men, it was a case of a point well-deserved whilst Brentford were left to rue missed opportunities. We are joined by Robin Hood from the Beesotted Pride of West London Podcast to mull over events at the Brentford Community Stadium, looking at the performance of both sides, where Brentford's promotion hopes stand after this latest result and how Forest's prospects look for the remainder of the season. Ep 54Nottingham Forest 0-2 Norwich City: The 1865 Match Report
The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. Get in touch to claim your exclusive FanHub Golden Ticket - but hurry as there are only a few left! Another defeat at the hands of one of the top teams in the division - well, THE top team. Norwich tore the Reds to pieces, especially in the first half, and Chris Hughton admitted that Forest just didn't get close enough to their opponents. It was probably a surprise that the scoreline stayed at 0-2 after such a bad start to the match, but Forest did have opportunities, most notably for Ryan Yates and the hapless Lewis Grabban. We are joined by Norwich fan Tyrone Bradford, dissecting not just the match but also having an in-depth chat about Chris Hughton, footballing philosophies, and the importance of long-term strategic thinking (contrasting Norwich's stability and success with the inconsistencies and stop-start nature of life at the City Ground). Ep 53Finances and Football Index failure: The 1865 Forest Ramble meets Kieran Maguire
The 1865 Forest Ramble is part of the Fan Hub Network - where fans come first. The Reds releasing their financial figures last week, and as expected there were significant losses, which was followed by the news of Football Index's demise leading to the loss of shirt sponsorship. Initial forecasts suggested that the Reds were likely to be mid-table in terms of expected losses, but with nearly £150 going out for every £100 coming in, is this sustainable? We were delighted to be joined by football finance expert Kieran Maguire to discuss wages, losses, the City Ground, and whether it is promotion or bust, especially with the effects of Coronavirus on Championship football. Thank you to Kieran for taking the time to join us. Like what you hear? Subscribe via your podcast provider, and please leave a review, as it helps other Forest supporters find our content.
