S2 Ep 12Couch Talks: Cult of Social Media Therapy
Couch Talks is the spciela bonus episode of You Need Therapy where Kat usually answers questions that listeners send to [email protected]. This week, however, Kat is taking some time to talk about something that has been bubbling up in her psyche for some time now. After beginning to read the book, Cultish, by Amanda Montell– Kat started thinking more about how the language we hear on social media from “professionals” shapes the way we view our own health, well being, and experiences. THEN- she got hit with a new article from The New York Times that you can read HERE. In this episode you will hear Kat wrestle through some thoughts she has around the dangers (?) that exist when therapeutic information is shared in an attention grabbing curated way on social media.Follow Kat on Instagram: @Kat.DefattaFollow the podcast Instagram: @YouNeedTherapyPodcastHave a question, concern, guest idea, something else? S2 Ep 9The Adult Avoidant Attachment Style
Welcome back to the second installment of our Attachment Theory Series. This week, we are talking a deep dive into the insecure avoidant attachment style in adults. Kat describes how this gets formed, what it feels like and what it can look like from the outside. Don't worry- she also gave some insight into how to move towards a more secure attachment (but you have to get all the way to the end for that 🤪). This attachment style stems from experiences that lead to a continuous loss of hope relationally. The repetitive nature of their feelings of rejection and abandonment encourage them to form behaviors to detach them from their need for attachment. But we already know that we are a connection based species so these eventually start to backfire and keep us from getting what we all ultimately innately strive for: love and belonging. Listen this week to get the full scoop on how this all works. And remember, if you come up with questions while listening to this weeks show (or any week really) feel free to send them over to [email protected] Kat on Instagram: @Kat.DefattaFollow the podcast Instagram: @YouNeedTherapyPodcastHave a question, concern, guest idea, something else? S2 Ep 5You Don't Always Have to Follow the Plan with Hannah Johnson
This week Kat (@kat.defatta) is bringing one of her oldest and best friends on the show, Hannah Johnson (@hanfran5). Hannah is someone who has always just gone for it- whether it be a job, relationship, or just a new experience. She left a stable and (what appeared to be) predictable life after college for a box full of unknowns and moved to L.A. without a job or a clue how she would get one. She's someone who has learned how to appreciate the goodness of what she has even in the midst of not getting what she thinks she wants. Together, Kat and Hannah talk about how to just "do the thing" and leave behind what is expected of you and what society says about "doing it right". And hey, maybe you don't need to quit your stable job and move to Bali. . . but you may need to change up your schedule or reevaluate if the things you feel like you're missing out on are really things you care about.Follow Kat on Instagram: @Kat.DefattaFollow the podcast Instagram: @YouNeedTherapyPodcastHave a question, concern, guest idea, something else?
