Ep 79Making Peace With Our Bodies; Balance and Respect is Possible
As we grow older we begin to notice and feel the changes in how our bodies respond to how we feed, move, and push them to varies limits. If we try to ignore what our bodies are telling us we may end up with injuries, chronic conditions, and frustration. The alternative is to shift our relationship with our bodies to one that is symbiotic. Considering it a partnership. No longer acting as a dominant master, rather being in a collaborative effort to do the thing we love while staying healthy and engaging in activities that are sustainable and allow for long-term health. On this solo episode I get into these topics as I break down my guest episode from last week with the lovely Dr. Jen Sylvester and the incredible insights and knowledge she shared with us around the best means of prevention, consistency, and longevity.Feel free to reach out to me to see how we can work together and send your questions, feedback, and requests for future solo episodes here: Whitney Walker, LMFTLicense # 107082www.WomenWaken.comhttps://www.psychologytoday.com/[email protected]: @Womenwaken
Ep 78How Physical Therapy Can Be a Guide for Listening to Your Body, Improving Health, and Aging Well
Taking care of your body is essential in order to feel your best and to have longevity in your health. However, taking care of your body may not always look like you think it does. Every single person's body, genetics, and internal systems are different meaning the best diet and exercise plan differs between individuals. It may seem easier to just jump on the latest fads or flashy offerings, yet taking the time to explore your own personal best fit has long-term benefits for the rest of your life. On the show this week I welcome Physical Therapist and dear friend, Dr. Jennifer Sylvester. Dr. Jen explains the importance of listening to your body, taking preventative action to reduce injury and damage to the body, and creating balance and healthy habits to enable improved aging. On this episode, Jen and I talk about the temptation to push our bodies to a certain size and shape or to aim for extreme fitness goals when what matters most is what suits you best, mentally and physically, and what is sustainable. As well as focusing on body acceptance and embracing ourselves as we are without condition. Jen also shares about the power of consistency over intensity to form a more loving relationship with our bodies, how to develop your physical and mental health, and achieve long-term success.Dr. Jennifer Sylvester, Doctor of Physical Therapy, started her private practice in 2014 providing concierge physical therapy, aquatic therapy, and wellness services in Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz. In the past 3 years she moved her business almost entirely online, teaching weekly virtual fitness classes, leading educational workshops and events, and providing telehealth physical therapy throughout California. While traveling, she has the opportunity to provide in-person physical therapy to patients throughout California, with concierge treatments in their homes or workplaces, and aquatic therapy at private or public pools. Dr. Jen focuses on customizing treatments to match each patient's unique lifestyle. She works with the patient to create a personalized whole-body plan for exercise, nutrition, sleep, and mindfulness that empowers the patient to take control of their own health and wellbeing. Ep 78Stop Abandoning Yourself – Identify and Break the Cycle of Self-Betrayal
Feeling like your own worst enemy and biggest critic can make life very unpleasant. It can feel like a constant trudging through mud trying to just get through life with crippling low self esteem and little to no confidence. I know how arduous it can be because I've lived that way for much of my life and I've worked with many individuals who have. In this solo episode I offer my take on what is Self Betrayal/Abandonment, how you can identify it and then work to shift it and move into a place of self-acceptance/regard.* The Book I referenced was indeed Bryon Katie's, Loving What Is. Ep 77Unlock Your True Potential: How To Erase Conditioning and Be Connected With The Universe
It's amazing how lost we can get in our minds. How easily other people's beliefs or opinions about us can begin to feel like our own truth. Yet what other people think is never our truth. We each have our own sovereign truth which is the key to personal peace and freedom. My guest this week, Renee Linnell, knows all too well how it feels to wake up to the shocking realization that she had lost herself after years of brainwashing from a Buddhist cult. Whether it's through the influence of others or of an addiction, trauma, or depression it can be hard to take the first steps back to yourself. Renee offers gentle and inspiring guidance on how to take that first step and move into a place of the greatest peace one can know.On this episode Renee and I discuss how to stop betraying ourselves due to low self-esteem and fear, how to move away from the messaging that we're not OK and need something or someone to fix us, and to realize that there's nothing holding us back because there are no conditions we have to meet to be worthy, lovable, and free. Renee is a former surf model, a professional Argentine Tango dancer, and a serial entrepreneur with an Executive Masters in Business Administration from New York University. She made her publishing debut in 2018 with The Burn Zone, a memoir of her experience as a cult survivor. She now has published her second book, Still on Fire: A Memoir. Ep 69Addressing the Impact of Narcissistic Abuse & Different Types of Narcissism
Do you ever think about what your dream life would look like? Go ahead. Take a moment. Does it involve traveling the world, meeting all kinds of people and seeing many different places, experiencing various lifestyles? One of the things that separates our actual life from our dream life is our mindset about it. Particularly a sense of lack or inability to have the means to live it. Yet is it really true that the life our dreams is out of reach? A common barrier to our dream life is money. Yet what would happen if we suddenly felt very comfortable, even powerful, in our relationship with money? And what would it take to get there? Vangile Makwakwa has found the answer and she now helps women of color heal ancestral money trauma so they can fall in love with their bank accounts, increase income and live their best lives. She is a an author, speaker, World traveler, wealth coach, and podcast host. Ep 68Quantum Enlightenment: A Guide to Ending Unnecessary Emotional Burdens and Karma
People are often told to "lighten up!" when they're taking things too seriously or getting worked up or upset about something. And why is that? Well, because when you "lighten" up your energy you don't feel as heavy and weighed down. One might say our planet as a collective is pretty weighed down right now and that the majority of people walk with more burden than freedom. Is there anything we can do about this? Ellyn Katherine Shamalov believes so. Ellyn is on a mission to educate people at this time about the importance of doing lightbody work. Ellyn is an Ascension Teacher, Divine Healer, Transformational Speaker + the Pioneer of the Quantum Enlightenment System. Ellyn is here in service to accelerate mission driven healers and lightworkers so they can rise into their next level self as a powerful leader and change maker. To uplift the vibration of humanity, reveal spiritual truth and wisdom and expand global consciousness. Ellyn’s goal is to help you to stop the cycle of misery from the constraints of emotional burdens and karma so that you can create a life where abundance, freedom and happiness is the norm. On this episode. Ellyn and I discuss what are the invisible forces holding us back and how can we liberate ourselves, what is the spiritual roadmap and how can it help to accelerate our transformation, the 7 ascension lessons, how to reprogram your mind, how the Quantum enlightenment System can heal you, and how we can dismantle victim consciousness and raise our vibration in the toughest times.Links:Blueprint Call:https://calendly.com/mc-healing/blueprint?month=2022-09Facebook:https://m.facebook.com/catalytichealingYouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU80WII5HI9krVlAcxIx0mA
Ep 67Diamond Heart Teachings: Mastering Multidimensional Feminine Embodiment
There are changes happening on our planet right now which many of us are experiencing. Part of those changes are the reintroduction of ancient knowledge and wisdom that can guide us towards greater peace and freedom in the human experience. Many brave souls are receiving this information and stepping out to share it with the world. Kate Alexander, Self Development Mentor and Regression Practitioner, is one of those souls and she joins us on the show this week to share about her downloads of the Diamond Heart Teachers and Multidimensional Feminine Embodiment. Kate’s ‘old life’ story was one of chronic crippling anxiety, polycystic ovaries & ongoing chronic bladder infections for over 10 years (to the point the doctor thought she had bladder cancer), adrenal fatigue, chronic back pain and generally low self-confidence. And of course the root cause of all this was unresolved trauma stored in the body, and a total disconnect from the Soul’s True Calling. Having encountered premonitions, out-of-body experience & communion with many beautiful expressions of Multidimensional Light Consciousness most of her life, Kate’s journey was quite dualistic in a sense. Kate was hereby guided through her own personal healing journey and embodiment process, Kate was prepped to both hold and share the Diamond Heart Teachings. Consciously guided for the past 5 years by the Higher Soul consciousness she knows as the Lyran Grandmother, Kate viewed herself and her life through an expanded lens, that she is here to share with others. It was this Higher Soul Aspect who came to Kate on the day of Lionsgate Portal, sharing that she has the Diamond Heart Teachings and is now ready to share them with humanity. On this episode, Kate shares her story of awakening, integration trauma healing, and meeting her divine counterpart. She walks us through the 8 pillars of Venus, her empowered shadow work, and out-of-body cosmo journeys. Together Kate and I explore how activating higher feminine wisdom can create greater harmony, balance, and enjoyment of life for all humans alike. Ep 66Understanding the Different Types of Narcissism and Dealing with Narcissistic Abuse
The Women Waken podcast has consisted so far of interview style episodes (65 to be exact!) in an effort to bring to light the remarkable work that so many brilliant healers and lightworkers are doing. This time, I'm mixing it up a little and having a guest return to go deeper into a particular topic related to their work. The first of many more to come in this and other engaging styles, and of course there will still be plenty more interview episodes! Thank you for checking it out, I hope you'll continue to join me on this podcasting journey! The purpose of branching off into these new formats is that I believe there is great importance in speaking about the things that are impacting society and the lives of many of its citizens. To have conversations around controversial topics to allow truthful and honest explorations of what is being observed, how it's affecting others, and what might be done to address the concern. To kick off these exploratory episodes I have the legendary, Veronica Monet, to discuss Narcissism. Narcissism is a sensitive topic right now as it has become a term that is frequently thrown around and launched at others in an accusatory fashion. However, it can be an appropriate concern for those in romantic or work relationships or friendships that seem to have become unhealthy, controlling, and potentially dangerous. It is also a topic of discussion in psychology and mental health circles as professionals in the field discuss whether personality disorders, such as Narcissistic Personality Disorder, should remain as a formal diagnosis in the DSM. So what is Narcissism? When is it seen as a personality disorder versus a character trait? Is it something developed over time? Are some people born with it? Many questions and conversations revolve around the topic so Veronica and I decided to reunite on the show and have an episode dedicated to Narcissistic Abuse. We start our discussion with Veronica sharing about her recent certification as an Internal Family Systems Informed (IFS) Relationship Coach and how IFS helps to shed light on the trait of narcissism and how it can be addressed in a healthy and compassionate way. We then move into an expansive conversation around narcism; how to identify the different types, what narcissistic abuse looks like, and how to heal from that abuse whether it happened in childhood or as an adult.* CHECK OUT Veronica's first interview on the podcast here! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sacred-sex-work-with-veronica-monet/id1580972247?i=1000539139237*Veronica Monet is on a mission to empower and elevate others in their most intimate relationships, including their connection to self. She helps people from all walks of life to heal shame and sexual trauma so they can rebirth their emotional and sexual reality to be an authentic expression of their deepest truths. She is able to bring inspiration and insight from my own journey to spiritual and sexual empowerment because I have personally healed from addiction, abuse, and sexual assault. After many years of struggle, she eventually unlocked the secrets to her spiritual and sexual sovereignty and now enjoys an amazing, elevating, exciting and magical reality. As an Internal Family Systems Informed (IFS) Relationship Coach, Certified Sexologist, Anger Specialist and Trained Rape and Domestic Violence Counselor, Veronica bring a rich array of expertise to my coaching practice. And as a sex positive activist she has been featured on a variety of platforms including CNN, FOX, Bill Maher’s Politically Incorrect, Yale, Stanford and the New York Times. Ep 65Transforming Your Life by Breaking Free from Addictions and Binge Eating the Spiritual Way
There is an undeniable power that exists when we're in the midst of an addiction or binge eating disorder. An abundance of energy that doesn't know how to be expressed so it is channeled in the form of these unhealthy disorders. Yet what if there is a way to use this energy in a healthier more empowered way? Kayla Van Egdom's focus is to help others make this shift. Kayla is a health coach, energy healer, author, and podcaster who is on a mission to help liberate women everywhere from food prison and body shame. On her show, the Slay & Thrive podcast, Kayla inspires her listeners on how to make this shift with a beautiful concept which she calls the The 3 Core Principals. Kayla shares about these core principles on the show as well as her story of struggling with weight and binge eating starting when she was seven years old. She spent two decades trying to fix her weight and food issues by treating herself like a problem that needed to be solved. She even became a personal trainer, thinking that would be the solution. The true solution was doing the deep inner work and choosing to use her challenges with body image and emotional eating as a catalyst for deep, personal transformation. She has worked with hundreds of clients over the last seven years and has helped women heal their relationship with food through her coaching and signature programs. On this episode, Kayla and I get pretty raw with our personal experience of binge eating, exploring sexuality and using sex as a tool to feel powerful, and how we've come to find greater peace and a better relationship with ourselves and our bodies by moving from an outward focus to an inward journey of spirituality. A great resource for anyone struggling with an Eating Disorder: EDRC.orgYou can connect with Kayla on IG and find her podcast here:IG: @kaylavanegdomhttps://slayandthrive.buzzsprout.com/
Ep 64Achieving Global Yin Yang Balance and Personal Transformation Through North Node Astrology
As we approach Libra season it feels appropriate to put the focus on seeking balance within ourselves and the World at large. The ultimate balance in life is that of the Yin and the Yang; those energies that balance the duality of life. Yet what happens when these energies are unbalanced? Well, look around you and you'll see right away what happens when that balance is completely out of whack! Our world consists predominately of Yang energy leaving the feminine Yin ready for a resurgence. Jean Jung joins me on the show this week to share her unique perspective on these energies and ways we can bring them into greater harmony. Jean is a holistic writing coach as well as a transformational coach who helps you express your authentic, most impactful voice, and your deepest dreams and desires. On this episode, Jean and I engage in an exploration of how these Yin and Yang energies create the World we see today and how rebalancing them can change everything. Jean shares her personal story as a model minority but also black sheep/scapegoat of her family including living in Korea for seven years which created her perspective on how global and cultural shifts factor into how she helps people of color, women entrepreneurs, other paradigm shifters step into leadership we need right now. We also get into some tools Jean uses to help others self-soothe and release anxiety such as tapping, chanting, and dancing as well as insights into how understanding our North Node Astrology can change our focus in life.
Ep 63Understanding the Reality of Entrepreneurship, Crisis Work, Intuitive Therapy, & Psychic Guidance
I have to admit, it feels pretty amazing to get dressed up like it's Prom Night and sit on a couch with a beloved friend to talk about progress in our careers and ways of helping others. Amanda Cortez, LMFT, is a remarkable business woman, therapist, and friend. We met as interns on our way to becoming licensed therapists, doing crisis work for a community based clinic. Since then, Amanda has blossomed into a successful entrepreneur and seasoned therapist with an incredible can-do attitude to always say yes and not let challenges get in her way.On this episode, Amanda and I talk about the road to becoming a therapist and the experience of being one, the realities of crisis work, why getting fired can be the ultimate gift, the truth about entrepreneurship and relationships, and how to embrace psychic awareness and spiritual guidance. Ep 62Travel to Transform: Harness the Power of Travel for Personal Growth
Change can be scary. New places, people, and environments can feel so foreign and unfamiliar that it can be tempting to stick to what we know. Yet that field beyond where we feel comfortable is where true change and growth occurs. Eleanor Lumsden knows a great deal about facing that spiritual wilderness you encounter when heading out into the Great Unknown and traversing the planet in search of our true home and soul growth. Eleanor has been traveling the World all of her life and has experienced first hand the remarkable benefits of exploration. She founded The No Sister Stands Alone Travel Club (NOSSA), an online sisterhood where members meet other travelers and receive insider tips to live out their travel dreams safely and on their own terms. We discuss how travel is such a powerful agent for personal growth, expanding awareness of other people and cultures, building resilience, and exercising adaptability. We also hit on the challenges of travel such as loneliness, fear, and adjusting to foreign places where everything feels different and unfamiliar. It's hard to imagine how we would get through life without laughter and comedy. With all the challenges, struggles, and tragedies it can be hard to stay in an uplifted mindset at times. It is often a healthy dose of comedy that can bring us to that state of lightness, joy, and pure relief from the burdens of life. Ep 61Living an Intentional Life: Exploring the Benefits, Realities, and Future of Community & Cooperative Living
For many reasons, community housing can be a beneficial alternative way of living that can decrease loneliness, reduce costs, boost personal growth and human connection. Creating a more village or community environment is a healthy way to learn to work with others, understand boundaries, and develop communication skills. Clearly, I'm a big proponent! Which is why I was very excited to have my long time friend, Syd Fredrickson and her colleague Zach, on the show this week to share insights about the multitude of advantages for people and the planet to consider intentional communities. On this episode, Syd and Zach share their personal experience and extensive knowledge about cooperative housing (co-living) and offer ways to explore a variety of approaches to living this lifestyle!Syd Fredrickson has lived most of her adult life in cooperative living groups, both urban & rural, some of them identified as intentional communities. She has been a delegate to the FEC, a board member on the FIC and served multiple terms of service to the NICA board [see organizational resources below.] Seattle Cooperative Housing Network -- an informal Facebook group that occasionally hosts in person gatherings, and which Zach and Syd both are a part of -- is a spin-off of NICA. Syd has helped start and advise several communities. She used to run a consulting business called Under 1 Roof. She now works as an Affordable Housing Community Manager. Ep 59Pathways to Pleasure; Tantric Intimacy and Full Body Orgasms
Tantra is an ancient spirituality with roots in Hinduism and Buddhism. One aspect of Tantra is sacred sexuality. Tantric full body orgasm is the spiritual expansion of immense pleasure in every part of your body instead of just in the genitals. Sounds pretty appealing, no? The orgasmic Dakini Raven works as a Tantra practitioner to assist couples and individuals in experiencing this next level of intimacy and pleasure. In her coaching, Raven explains how full-body orgasms last much longer than traditional forms of ejaculation or release and may feel more like riding a wave of energy rather than just an intense “explosive” feeling. Raven's teaching include mastering sexual energy, which is an ancient spiritual practice that feels like waves of pleasure rolling through your body. It is the greatest expression of sacred divinity. Raven helps people see that experiencing full body orgasm means more confidence, better connection, better communication, and deeper sexual satisfaction. On this episode, Raven and I have way too much fun discussing the expansion of our sexuality, the many forms of the Female orgasm, full body orgasms, orgasming from breath or a breeze, and how to begin a tantra practice at home with your partner, yourself, and orgasm your way through life!Raven, creator of the Couples Three Hour Tantric Date Night Blueprint, is a Certified Tantra Practitioner, Certified Food & Spirit Chakra Practitioner, Reiki Holy Fire Master, and Energy Medicine specialist.
