With our lack of luck regarding Texas Bourbon, we heard good things about Still Austin and had to give it a try. The price point is nice on this bottle of bourbon especially for the proof, but is it worth it? A nice sipper that does not drink it's proof with a sweeter palate. To start, this is not the 10 year bottled in bond Henry McKenna. This whiskey is the entry level Henry McKenna coming in at 80 proof. It is an easy sipper that sips on the sweeter side. Depending on the price you can find it for, it could be worth a purchase. As would be expected, it was Devo's pick for the whiskey this week and surprise surprise, it is a rye whiskey. His pick was Noble Oak Double Oak Rye, a rye whiskey aged secondarily in Port barrels, which adds some fruitiness and sweetness into the rye's profile and makes for a very unique sip. This week we have a special bottle for you. Just released this month, Whistlepig collaborated with David Ortiz aka "Big Papi", one of the best power hitters of all time to come up with a very unique rye whiskey. At 100% rye and 96.56 proof the regular Piggyback Rye gives you a nice enjoyable rye punch, but thanks to David Ortiz, they decided to age the rye also with Maple baseball bats. The maple brings in a lot of flavor and uniqueness compared to the original. With all of that being said, this makes for a nice easy sipper with unique flavors that reminded us of little league and playing ball. So we were excited to grab this bottle as sub-$30 and have a barrel proof in that price point. Little did we know that we just got a great deal on it. Coming in at $55 from what we could find, this is a barrel proof bourbon on the lower end in terms of pricing. It is a very interesting bourbon, smooth for the proof, but not what one would expect from a barrel proof bourbon. Well, this was an interesting review with Giant Texas Bourbon. It was requested that we review Giant Texas Single Barrel but we have not been able to find it so we figured this was the next best thing. However, it was not the best choice, actually, this has been our worst rated whiskey to date. To make it up to you, we ended up doing a second review where we reviewed Redemption High Rye Bourbon. We finally went back to our roots with rating under $20 bottles. This week we have Jim Beam Double Oak Bourbon which comes in around $17. A nice easy sipper at a heck of a price point. The bottle got a little bit of an update but can easily be found as the bottle is the same as the others but it has a nice navy blue label. Well, we have a special one for you this week. Larceny Barrel Proof bourbon is the first high proof wheated bourbon we have reviewed to date. Regretfully, we may have picked a terrible time with the Heaven Hill strike going on recently. We fully respect their decision to strike and wish the best for their workers. What?!? Whiskey Biz is doing an Irish Whiskey. We were a bit surprised by our own decision, but we had a listener request that we review this bottle. Knappogue (Nuh-Pogue) 12 Year is an Irish Whiskey aged in Bourbon Barrels that is a mellow but enjoyable sipper. It has a mild spice and sweetness that slowly grows on you and you sip it longer.
