Truth Talk: Why Your Diet Could Be Hurting You More Than Helping You
Dieting is the worst way to lose weight. The fitness industry teaches us that by losing weight we’ll become happy with our bodies and therefore happy with ourselves. But the truth is that we can't fix an internal problem with an external solution. Our hope is in our Savior and not a diet. REPLAY - Forgiveness: Why It's Important and What It Means to Forgive
For the month of July, I'm sharing replays of my most popular episodes. In this episode I'm discussing forgiveness and why it’s important to me. For a long time, I carried the weight of pain, unwilling to let go. I thought to forgive meant to erase all that had been done. Forgiveness doesn’t mean reconciliation. That takes both parties coming together in agreement to work it out. Maybe that’s an option in this season, and perhaps it isn’t. Forgiveness takes one person. You. Learning to Forgive Yourself and Move On
Do you know the cost of unforgiveness? In this episode, I’m talking about how we can learn to forgive ourselves and move on. I used to have a ruthless point of view on forgiveness because I believed it meant excusing everyone who had hurt me without consequence. But as I continued to press into my pain through scripture, the kindness of the Father helped me begin to forgive. We can't hate our way into forgiveness because it requires both compassion and empathy. It’s a gift from Christ that allows us to let go of the extra weight we carry. How to Stop Worrying About What Other People Think
When was the last time someone told you to stop worrying about what other people think and it actually worked? It doesn’t. That’s because, in order to truly stop worrying about other’s opinions of us, we have to understand how God wired and created us on a deeper level. When we try to cure ourselves of worrying about what others think of us with our actions, we neglect the heart and soul change needed to actually live life like the only thing that matters is God. In this episode, I’m digging deep into the 4 different attachment styles, the 4 basic styles of communication, and the 4 different types of soil described in the Bible to help you understand why you value the opinion of others and find the healing available to you through Christ.Resources mentioned: Learning Discernment and Knowing the Critical Spirit with Phylicia Masonheimer Full show notes for this episode can be found at jessicahottle.com!Follow Jessica: website | Instagram | freebies
Finding Calm in a Chaotic World
Do you feel overwhelmed, anxious, or burnt out? I can relate. That’s why in this episode I’m talking about finding calm in a chaotic world. We can’t choose what happens around us, but we can choose how we respond. What we set our minds on will determine the feelings we experience based on the beliefs we carry about what we are focusing on. That’s why the Bible encourages us to set our mind on God instead of ourselves and our circumstances. Fear and lies keep us from experiencing the life that He desires for us. If you find yourself going from diet to diet looking for the “perfect” one for you, maybe it’s not another diet that you need. In this Truth Talk, I’m presenting 6 questions to ask yourself before going on another diet. With every new diet we try, we tend to bring in some of the habits and thought processes from previous diets. When we “diet stack” we over restrict our food options, sometimes even to the point that there’s not much left we can eat without feeling guilty. These questions are meant to challenge you in your thinking so you can begin to stop this diet rollercoaster and begin to focus on the real truth about your body, food, and where your worth is being placed.Resources mentioned: Spirit Soul Body coachingFull show notes for this episode can be found at jessicahottle.com!Follow Jessica: website | Instagram | freebies
Truth Talk: How to Create Space to Heal
In this Truth Talk, I’m sharing my personal story about how I learned to create space to heal. For many years, I lived in an overwhelming emotional place where I thought everything happening in my life was a lesson. Instead of searching for Jesus, I searched to find the answer to those lessons. Feeling buried in my emotions and wrestling with what I was experiencing kept me in a constant loop of questioning who I was. Lie #61: You Are Unlovable
I was 30 when I realized that I had spent most of my life believing I was unlovable. After years of failed relationships, superficial and fleeting friendships, and feeling like I was too much for so many people, I concluded there must be something wrong with me. Maybe you can relate. Lie #60: You Have to Be Perfect to Start
In Lie #60, I’m sharing an honest story of my not-so-perfect start to writing. I’ve always struggled with feeling mediocre, and getting underwhelming reviews to my first book seemed to confirm my inadequacy. The good news is that through Christ we can become strengthened by the things that come against us. The lie that we must be perfect to start keeps us from moving forward. We get so concerned about how people are going to rate us that we forget about the only opinion that matters. When we do what God has called us to do, He will take care of the rest. Truth Talk: How Social Media Is Affecting Us Emotionally
I don't think it is a surprise that social media has become a source of information and encouragement; a place we seek to find our identity and validation on our beliefs and what we feel. 2020 took many of us for a loop in our ability to communicate in person, which led us to pick up our phones instead of picking up a hand and looking someone in the eyes. I felt this shift happening. It seemed as though we began to turn into two people in the same body - who we were online and who we were offline. As I began to observe two personalities forming, I also realized how it was hurting us emotionally. In this episode, I’m asking you some questions to help you analyze how you’re using social media. This analysis is nothing more than a starting point for us to realize that social media is a great tool to use when used right with wisdom and guidance from the Holy Spirit. Lie #59: You Are Lazy If You Have to Buy the Bigger Pants

Did I let my body go?” I can relate and I’m here to share with you this truth – you are not lazy if you have to buy the bigger pants. When our size changes our first reaction may be to hardcore diet and exercise, but we should start by considering “what does my size mean about me?” In this episode, I share from my own personal healing journey about the strength that came along with my bigger pant size and explore the practical and emotional side aspects of discovering why size matters to us. Truth Talk: Knowing Your Worth Despite What You Feel
Do you think God cares about you? Some of our deepest desires are to be known, loved, heard, and seen. Every person wants to know why they are here and for what purpose. These feelings make us feel like we have meaning, like we're contributing to the world, and to something bigger than us. In my quest for discovering who I was, I lost who I was to a sea of opinions, who people thought I should be and how I should react and respond. We don’t have breakdowns because of the event itself. Breakdowns happen because of the pain we have picked up according to our perspective of the event. My breakdown came because it was the last straw my soul could take to feeling unloved and unwanted. The pain came from a hole in my heart that could not be filled by anyone else’s love except the Father's. I didn’t care about me because I didn’t think the Father cared about me. In this Truth Talk, I’m digging into the differences between emotions and feelings. You do not have to feel something to believe it’s true because your worth is not in a feeling, it’s in a Person. In my quest to challenge the narrative and why we do things, I wondered why and when the idea of skinny became the focus. When did the idea of skinny become the object of affection for so many of us? What does “skinny” even mean? The truth is this - our body is the external force driving a feeling we hope to experience internally. It's who and what we honor our body with that matters the most. Truth Talk: Learning to Love Your Body
Let me be clear about what I mean by the title “Learning to Love Your Body” - I am not referring to the self-proclaimed self-love lie. Lie #55: I'll Never Be Good Enough
Lie #55 is personal for me as I share about a disappointment in 2020 that left me believing that I’ll never be good enough. Believe me, I know it’s frustrating when you’re pursuing something you know God has called you to, only to be continually met with roadblocks. The good news for us is that God sees the full picture, so we don’t need to be swayed by the opinions of others. We can trust that challenges bring growth and rest in the fact that a “no” right now, doesn’t mean “no” forever. Ask God today about what He has called you to do, how He has equipped you to do it and to address any ugliness in your heart. Truth Talk: A Better Way to Pray
This is the last Truth Talk in our 4-part series based on my free Know Your Worth Study. For the past three weeks, I've been discussing why it's critical to read the Bible as well as some tips to help you better understand what it says. This week, I’m talking about prayer - what it is and isn’t, different types of prayer, and some scriptures of encouragement. When prayers aren't getting answered, it's easy to think God doesn't hear us and conclude that God must not care about us. The truth is that our timelines don't compare to the promises of God. Be encouraged that our loving Father is working things out for your good in His perfect timing. Full show notes for this episode can be found at jessicahottle.com!
