Emotional Boundaries: How to Live in Forgiveness As You Walk with God
Does the thought of setting boundaries make you uncomfortable because you associate it with cutting people out of your life? Sometimes that is necessary, but healthy emotional boundaries lovingly offer choice to others rather than attempting to control them. When we want to create community and deepen relationships, we must communicate with others about our levels of safety and what protects both people involved from getting hurt any further. And when we refer to the Bible, we can see that boundaries also have to do with self-control. In this episode, I talk about why it's hard to set emotional boundaries, what scripture has to say about boundaries, and what it means to walk in forgiveness. Forgiving Yourself: Breaking Down the Wall Around Your Heart with God's Love
What does it mean to forgive yourself? Scripture teaches us that we are forgiven and receive forgiveness for our sins through Jesus, therefore forgiving yourself starts with recognizing what He has done for you. We aren’t striving to be set free, we are renewing our minds to stay free. In this episode, I talk about the two types of forgiveness found in the Bible - the forgiveness of our sins and the forgiveness of others. If our goal is sanctification and becoming more like Christ, how can we extend compassion towards others, but not ourselves? Forgiving yourself is healing with the Lord and changing the way you view forgiveness. Learn to Trust in God and Grow Your Relationship with Him
It’s our brokenness that blinds our eyes from the truth and keeps us focused on our pain. We can’t see clearly because our pain changes our perspective, and our perspective directs our path. Over time, ignoring our emotions, feelings, and pain only obscures our vision and ability to see clearly. Trying to pray them away or ignoring them causes even more blindness to the truth. In this episode, I'm talking about how you can start learning to trust in God and grow your relationship with Him by posing three questions - 1. What’s causing you to go under and punching holes in your identity? 2. What storms have changed your view of God? 3. Do you know the God who calms the sea? Do you know God’s true character and nature? Faith Over Fear: How to Feel Safe with God and Trust God When Your Heart Feels Weary
Fear does not always mean the absence of faith. Fear can sometimes mean the absence of safety. Faith over fear is what we choose, walk out, and become disciplined in. To live in faith over fear, we must also know that experiencing safety with God is physical, spiritual, and emotional. In this episode, I'm talking about how fear came to be, the foundation of fear, and what we can to do restore safety with God so we can begin living in faith over fear. How to Deal with Trauma Triggers and Healing Your Soul with God
There is no escaping the fact that we will experience pain in this world. I like to say that the depth that we love is also the depth that we can feel pain. Love opens our hearts and welcomes the possibility of what could be and what is. In this episode, I explain different types of trauma and how they can manifest in our bodies, as well as break down why truth/logic and our emotions must be in balance to experience the fullness of God and allow Him to heal our trauma triggers. Remember, God’s love for you is not on trial. He wants to walk through this healing with you as you become more like Him. Take time today to get quiet and be honest and humble before God. Take your pain to Him, surrender what's out of your control, and allow Him to heal your soul. How to Know You Are Hearing from God and Not the Enemy or Your Own Feelings
Hearing from God means discerning between the different voices we hear. Whether it’s through our feelings and what they communicate or what the enemy is trying to distract us from or with. Hearing from God requires us to think about what we are thinking instead of allowing what comes to have the ultimate say over our lives. In this episode, I'm talking about how we can know if we're hearing from God, the enemy, or our feelings by taking a look at the fruit that each one will bring. We are run by our feelings when we run away from them. But as Jessica Hottle teaches, we no longer have to run and hide from our feelings. Our feelings can lead us into a deeper relationship with God. Whether you feel too busy to slow down; believe you are not worth the time, the effort, or the fight; feel so overwhelmed with where to start; or have no idea how to take your thoughts captive, question your thoughts, or renew your mind, this book helps you create space, step-by-step, to heal the tender places of your soul. This book teaches you how worthy you are of love and healing because of our good Father in heaven. Writing from her own journey, Jessica shares simple, tangible actions steps for readers to take as they work through the process of healing, including: Changing the way you think about God to change the way you live with God, Creating the space you need to find healing, Discovering how to get the Word of God from your head into your heart, Experiencing the love of God through relationship and not works, and Finding freedom from shame about what you feel so you can heal. It’s easy to get so caught up in our to-do lists that we don’t stop to ask if what we’re busy doing is something we should be doing. Is it really worth our time and energy or are there more important things we should be focusing on? In this conversation with the co-leaders of She Works His Way, Michelle Myers and Somer Phobus, we’re talking about the battle of overwork, why margin is vital for us to build deep relationships, and the power and freedom that comes with seeking God first.
