Ep 63The Murder of David Castor
Stacey Castor seemed to be in a panic when she called the police to report that her husband, David Castor, didn't make it into work. She told them he'd been feeling depressed, and was concerned it was suicide. Police went to the Castor home and discovered David's body on his bed, dead from antifreeze poisoning. Based on Stacey's comments, they were primed to label it a suicide and call it a day. But one detective wasn't so sure, especially when he learned Stacey's first husband was also dead... Ep 62The Murder of Steven Mineo
Steven Mineo had been a devoted follower of cult leader Sherry Shriner for all of his adult life. He considered Sherry a prophet of God, and believed her when she preached about Alien reptiles that had come to Earth to take over human bodies, and how these "reptilians" would lead to the return of the antichrist. Through Sherry's devoted online community, Steven met Barbara Rogers, and it wasn't long before they were referring to each other as husband and wife. Everything seemed great, until one day Sherry suddenly turned on Barbara and Steven, and her entire online community followed suit... Ep 58The Murder of Jessica Dishon
On September 10, 1999, Edna Dishon arrived home in the afternoon to see her 17 year old daughter's car in the driveway. Jessica should have still been at school, so Edna went inside the house to see if she'd stayed home sick that day, but Jessica wasn't there. She called the school and found that Jessica had never arrived. But when she looked inside her car, she knew immediately that something was terribly wrong. Inside were Jessica's backpack, purse, phone, and one shoe inside. Her phone had two numbers punched in: 9-1. Edna and her husband, Mike Dishon, rushed to the police station to report Jessica missing, but the sheriff's deputy didn't see any cause for concern. He told them Jessica probably ran away, or maybe she was at the football game. He told them to come back the next day if Jessica didn't come home. But Jessica never came home. She didn’t stop adopting them until she had at least 55 children. She married one of her earliest adopted sons, Anderson Do Carmo. Urban legends of tainted Halloween candy have spread for decades. Ep 46The Mysterious Disappearance of Angela Green
Angela Green was 51 when she disappeared in 2019. Her husband, Geoff Green, initially had a very odd explanation for Angela's disappearance. He told their 19 year old daughter, Ellie, that he'd been worried about Angela's mental state, and he'd arranged it so a psychiatric hospital would take Angela from a grocery store parking lot and commit her to their facilities. He said there was a struggle when they took her, and he didn't want Ellie to visit for her own safety. He wouldn't even tell her where the hospital is . Several days later, Geoff broke the news to Ellie - he'd gotten a call from the hospital telling him that Angela had died of a stroke in their care. Geoff said he paid a man from the hospital to cremate her and return her in an urn, which was at his house. He told Ellie they were not going to have a funeral, and he asked her not to tell Angela's family she was dead. Only, there's not a record of Angela's death anywhere in the United States. Ep 45The Murder of Colleen Ritzer
It was 2013 in Danvers, Massachusetts and Colleen Ritzer had been teaching math at Danvers High School for just 2 years. She loved teaching math and her students loved her, which is why it was such a shock when just before Halloween that year, she went missing. Her parents called around to her friends and colleagues looking for her when she didn't come home at her usual time and wasn't answering her phone, but no one knew where she'd been. Her parents tried not to worry too much - she'd probably made plans and forgotten to tell them, but maybe she'd been in an accident and unable to reach them. They decided to go up to the school and look for her. They found her car in the parking lot, but no sign of Colleen anywhere. And that's when they discovered Colleen wasn't the only person that was missing. Diana Chism had filed a missing persons report on her son, Phillip Chism, after he failed to come home after school. Ep 43The Murder of Cheryl Lynn Downs Part 1
It was late on May 19, 1983 when the car pulled up to the ER in Springfield, Oregon. Inside were three children, and they'd all been shot in the chest. Their mother, Elizabeth Diane Downs, had a horrifying story to tell: she'd been driving the kids home that night when a bushy haired stranger had flagged her down. He tried to steal her car, but when Diane put up a fight, he pulled out a gun and shot her kids. The story seemed so bizarre to detectives, so unbelievable, that they couldn't help but suspect Diane of being behind the shooting. But why would a mother shoot her own children? On June 13, 1996, 18-year-old Angie Dodge was found in her apartment in Idaho Falls brutally raped and murdered. Despite having plenty of DNA in the case, police quickly ran out of suspects until the following January, when a new lead brought them to 20-year-old Christopher Tapp. His DNA didn't match that left at the crime scene, but that didn't matter - not after he gave police a confession about his involvement. Ep 40The Attempted Murder of Payton Leutner
On May 30, 2014, Morgan Geyser celebrated her 12th birthday with her two best friends: Payton Leutner and Anissa Weier. They did all the normal stuff 12 year olds do at slumber parties - they went to a skating rink, they played dress up, they played on their phones. But the next morning, Payton was found in the park with multiple stab wounds. First responders were shocked to find a 12 year old who had been stabbed, but their shock would turn to horror when she told them who had done it: 12 year old Morgan Geyser. Ep 39The Murder of Brook Baker
It was the spring of 1997 and Brook Baker was a journalism student at Vincennes University in Indiana, working on an expose of one of the fraternities on campus. One night, her brother went to visit her apartment where he found her dead in her bedroom. In the bathroom, the tub had been left running, and the kitchen sink had been filled with water. As police investigated, their suspect list continued to grow faster than they could eliminate people - there were the brothers of the fraternity, the creepy landlord who would come into her apartment often unannounced, her on again, off again boyfriend. But every lead they went down turned up more questions than answers... Ep 38Starvation Heights: The Murder of Claire Williamson
The worst mistake Claire Williamson ever made was the day she responded to an ad in a Seattle daily newspaper to ask for a copy of Fasting for the Cure of Disease, a book by Dr. Linda Burfield Hazzard. Claire and her sister, Dorothea, who went by Dora, were extremely close and extremely wealthy, heirs to a fortune of nearly 29 million that they alone controlled, but they were obsessed with one thing: fad cures. Cures for what, you might ask? I have no idea because both Claire and Dorothea seemed to be in perfectly fine health. Neither of them suffered from any serious illness. But Claire especially could not let this search for wellbeing go. She would die to be healthy. Ep 37The Shooting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville
One day, Biology professor Amy Bishop spent 50 minutes in a staff meeting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville before pulling a gun out of her purse and letting shots fire around the conference room. By the time her gun jammed, only a minute into the shooting, she’d already killed 3 people and injured 3 others. At first glance, this seemed to be retaliation - Amy had recently been denied tenure. But then police in Alabama got a phone call from the chief of police in Amy’s hometown near Boston that would send their investigation in an entirely different direction… Sources: Articles The New Yorker | A Loaded Gun (Patrick Radden Keefe) CNN | Alabama Shooting Survivor "There Was No Way to Ever Anticipate This" Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/truecrimecreepers) Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 36The Mysterious Death of Rebecca Zahau
Rebecca Zahau was found hanging outside the Speckles Mansion on Coronado Island, California. She was naked, bound, and gagged, and there was a disturbing message written on the wall, which to most lay people immediately looked suspicious. But police were quick to categorize this death as a suicide. This was especially odd, since just 2 days later there had been another death in the mansion - that of 6 year old Max Shacknai, which had happened under Rebecca’s supervision. Was this a case of grief leading to a suicide? Or was Rebecca actually murdered, and if so, by whom? Ep 35The Murder of Martha Puebla
Martha Puebla was 16 years old when she became a victim of gang violence, gunned down while sitting outside her house chatting with friends. The suspect was obvious - Jose Ledesme and Mario Catalan had been arrested for another murder and told that Martha had identified them as the shooter. But instead of going after Jose and Mario, investigators arrest Mario's little brother, Juan Catalan, for the murder of Martha Puebla. Proving his innocence would require a wild goose chase involving the Dodgers, HBO, Larry David, and an enormous amount of luck. Ep 34The Fraud of Fyre Fest
Back in Spring of 2017, Fyre Fest was going to be the experience of a lifetime. A luxury music festival in an idyllic tropical setting on a private island in the Bahamas. Festival-goers were promised a real-life island fantasy with luxury accommodations, gourmet food and the chance to party with rappers and models. People paid hundreds to hundreds of thousands for their tickets and accommodations for Fyre Fest, expecting a weekend living in the lap of luxury. What they got was something slightly less than that. The luxury villas they were promised turned out to be FEMA disaster relief tents. The local seafood, Bahamian style sushi, and pig roast they were promised turned out to be… you know it - cheese sandwiches in a styrofoam container. Mostly rich millennials with job titles like influencer were suddenly resorting to Lord of the Flies level anarchy just to make sure their most basic needs were met. Ep 28FRAMED: Kelli Peters
Kelli Peters was just out there living her best life, volunteering at her daughter's school while running a small business painting tie-dyed jeans, when a police officer came to the school to say he needed to speak to her. The officer told her that they'd gotten a call that she'd been driving at the school under the influence of drugs, and that she had drugs in her car parked at the school. Kelli was shocked. The worst thing she'd ever done in her life was that time she threw her company phone out the window after she'd quit. So she let the officer search her car, and low and behold - they find the drugs. "They're not mine!" Kelli insisted, like every other person in that situation. But Kelly wasn't lying. It turns out, Kelli had an enemy. Ep 14The Collar Bomb Heist Part 1
Happy New Year, peeps and creeps! We are back this week with part 1 of the Collar Bomb Heist. On August 28, 2003 in Erie, PA, Brian Wells robbed a PNC bank for somewhere around $9,000, much less than the $250k he was trying to get. He was arrested nearby shortly after the robbery, and police discovered he had a bomb locked around his neck. Brian told police that a group of black men had grabbed him while he’d been out on a pizza delivery, chained the bomb around his neck at gunpoint, and forced him to rob the bank. The bomb went off, killing Brian Wells, before the bomb squad could even arrive. After his death, police found notes in his car, detailing a scavenger hunt he was to go on after he’d gotten the money that would lead him to all the keys and codes necessary to unlock the collar, and the police were left with so many questions.
