S3 Ep 44Why You Should be Focusing on Culture First!

We all want to belong, to be part of something that is special, that inspires us to be be better humans collectively. Your business is the daily testing ground for self-improvement. Your culture is either toxic, generic, or intimate. Culture is the DNA that interweaves through every transaction and selfish or selfless action your family (i.e. employees) and you do as the leader. Airbnb CEO and Founder Brian Chesky Quotes on Culture: "Culture is so incredibly important because it is the foundation for all future innovation. People with passion can change the world." "Culture is simply a shared way of doing something with passion." "A company's culture is the foundation for future innovation. An entrepreneurs job is to build the foundation." "There's no such thing as a good or bad culture, it's either a strong or weak culture. And a good culture for somebody else may not be a good culture for you." "The stronger the culture, the less corporate process a company needs. When the culture is strong, you can trust everyone to do the right thing. People can be independent and autonomous. They can be entrepreneurial."

S3 Ep 40The Missing Key to Your Leadership

E

Quick podcast while in car had to rant about this lol. I have been convicted on working on humility, and I know it is a missing part in my life and in your quiver of leadership arrows. Humility means "the state of being humble." Both it and humble have their origin in the Latin word humilis, meaning "low." Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real. -Thomas Merton Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less. -C. S. S3 Ep 28How to Solve and Prevent Problems Before They Happen

This is the ABQ Business Podcast with your host Jason Rigby. Each week we interview leading business leaders to inspire the vision and the spirit that is in every entrepreneur. We discuss strengths, weakness, strategies, systems and the problems we can all solve together to fulfill a shared vision of a new future for Small Business. Upstream Thinking is from a book called Upstream the Quest to Solve Problems Before they Happen. Here is excerpt and bio from this amazing book: New York Times bestselling author Dan Heath explores how to prevent problems before they happen, drawing on insights from hundreds of interviews with unconventional problem solvers. So often in life, we get stuck in a cycle of response. We put out fires. We deal with emergencies. We stay downstream, handling one problem after another, but we never make our way upstream to fix the systems that caused the problems. Cops chase robbers, doctors treat patients with chronic illnesses, and call-center reps address customer complaints. But many crimes, chronic illnesses, and customer complaints are preventable. So why do our efforts skew so heavily toward reaction rather than prevention? Upstream probes the psychological forces that push us downstream—including "problem blindness," which can leave us oblivious to serious problems in our midst. And Heath introduces us to the thinkers who have overcome these obstacles and scored massive victories by switching to an upstream mindset. One online travel website prevented twenty million customer service calls every year by making some simple tweaks to its booking system. A major urban school district cut its dropout rate in half after it figured out that it could predict which students would drop out—as early as the ninth grade. A European nation almost eliminated teenage alcohol and drug abuse by deliberately changing the nation's culture. And one EMS system accelerated the emergency-response time of its ambulances by using data to predict where 911 calls would emerge—and forward-deploying its ambulances to stand by in those areas. Upstream delivers practical solutions for preventing problems rather than reacting to them. How many problems in our lives and in society are we tolerating simply because we've forgotten that we can fix them? We discuss strengths, weakness, strategies, systems and the problems we can all solve together to fulfill a shared vision of a new future for Small Business. 28 Life Lesson Worth Sharing No one has it all figured out Being nice is overrated, be kind, be fair, be understanding, not "nice" To love is to be vulnerable, let your guard down Good or bad, you can learn from everybody Embrace all of your emotions, don't ignore them, don't mask them, embrace them Traveling alone is better than with bad company Unlearning is just as important as learning No one prepares you to watch your parents grow old Own up to your mistakes /Do what you say you'll do Maturity is accepting you won't get answers to the shit that hurt you the most, heal anyway One of the most important decisions you'll ever make in life, is who you have children with. Choose wisely Women friends are cool, don't try to sleep with them You don't have to learn everything the hard way One day you'll need to be forgiven so learn to forgive others Instead of buying your children what you didn't have, teach them what you didn't know Never let your inner child die If someone doesn't treat you as good as a chick fil a employee they don't deserve to be in your life No one reads mind, speak on how you feel Never feel bad about promoting yourself If you value your time say no to anything that you don't absolutely want to do Spending time alone is one of the best things you can do Celebrate your accomplishments If you care too much about what other people think, you're effectively their slave Be so busy improving your life that you don't have time to criticize others Everyone you love will eventually die, spend your time with your loved ones, keep them close Listen to understand, not to respond Hang out with people from different races, ethnicity and social economic classes You can't pour from an empty cup, take care of yourself first List was from one of my favorite websites medium.com get it here Please go to www.abqpodcast.com where you can get show notes, resources, and links to everything we talked about today to help you navigate your journey as an entrepreneur and business owner in ABQ. S3 Ep 22How to Stop Being a People Pleaser & Why It's So Bad for You.

E

How to Stop Being a People Pleaser & Why It's So Bad for You. I was passionate about this episode cause I see so many people that give themselves away so cheaply. They willfully take their limited time and sacrifice to the whims and wants of others. They draw to themselves people that are energy vampires, and time abusers ever playing the victim with shame and fear. Breaking the habits of people pleasing requires courage, commitment, and the ability to put yourself first spiritually, mentally, and physically. To intentionally not allow others to come first. This is a very tough cycle to break, and one that requires extreme self-awareness to break the chains of low self esteem and "I'm not good enough syndrome." We all want to get our self worth externally; after all being disillusioned by the praise and complaints of others is to see our identity through them. This my friend is allot easier then self talk and uber honesty while looking into the mirror of our consciousness. S3 Ep 18Making Safe and Clean Water Available to the World.

Amazing Inventor Rodney Herrington from Albuquerque. He owns multiple Businesses and is solving a world problem!!! Clean Water! Aqua Research LLC develops innovative water treatment technologies that meet the extreme needs within developing countries and provides sustainable water purification to outdoor enthusiasts, travelers, emergency preppers, first responders, Peace Corps, and the military. Why We Need Sustainable Water Purification Solutions The H2gO Purifier was designed for hikers and campers, travelers, missionaries, Peace Corps volunteers, first responders, disaster relief, and emergency kits. However, our ultimate dream is to provide cost-effective and sustainable water treatment to the people who need it most – those with no access to safe water. Our goal is to help reduce the devastating impact of unsafe water, both physical and financial: 3.3 million people die each year from water-related health problems. [1] Half the hospital beds in the poorest countries are filled with patients with water-related diseases. [2] Women in developing countries walk an average of 3.7 miles to get water, then often carry 50 lbs or more of water on their backs. [1] Poor people living in the slums often pay 5-10 times more for water than wealthy people living in the same city. [3] H2gO is a truly sustainable option for emerging countries, offering no maintenance cost or resupply logistics. The purifier costs $0.50 per YEAR for salt to operate and provide a family 40 liters (10 gallons) of safe water per DAY. It uses a rechargeable cell phone type battery for power and can be recharged by the onboard solar panel or micro USB port – re-charged by just about any cell phone charger, but comes with its own charger. The device is available via retail outlets for about $120 but we discount to qualified non-government organizations (NGOs) to less than $50. Our STREAM system is designed to treat up to 240,000 liters (60,000 gallons per day) for hospitals, orphanages, schools, and small communities in both normal and disaster settings. The STREAM operates on a variety of power sources including 110/220 VAC, and 12 volts DC from a car battery or solar panel. The unit is very robust and comes in a hard plastic waterproof case about the size of a briefcase. Videos of the device are shown on our videos page. By being part of the solution to provide safe water to families in developing nations, we can help people around the world realize their potential: [4] Household water disinfection is the best way to reduce diarrhea and can pay back up to $60 for every $1 invested. Access to safe drinking water and sanitation worldwide would save health agencies $14 billion per year and individuals $680 million. There would be 640 million more productive working days per year, 544 million more school attendance days, and 3 billion more healthy days for children under 5, together representing productivity gains of $19.8 billion a year. Smaller Teams are better than Larger Teams Patrick Collison has a great list of people quickly accomplishing ambitious things. Inspired by that, I created a page of impressive things accomplished by small teams. Instagram had 13 employees when they were acquired by Facebook for $1 billion. They had 30 millions users at the time. Source Mojang (the company behind Minecraft) had 37 employees when they were acquired by Microsoft for $2.5 billion. At that time, Mojang had revenue of about $290 million annually with profits of over $100 million. Source WhatsApp had 55 employees when they were acquired by Facebook for $19 billion. Source Notion has raised money at a $2 billion valuation with under 50 employees. Source BuiltWith generates $14 million/year with a single employee. Source (an investor in the business) The Gartman Letter had a single employee and was rumored to be doing $25M/year Kylie Jenner sold a 51% stake in the Kylie Cosmetics for $600 million with just seven full-time and five part-time employees. Source Craigslist generates around $1 billion/year with about 50 employees. Source Plenty of Fish sold for $575 million with 75 employees. Source Liberty Media had 16 employees and was worth multi-billions in the 90s. Source Joe Rogan is making between $30-$50 million/year with a handful of employees. S3 Ep 16Helping Dogs, Helping Heroes Interview with Paws and Stripes Founder/CEO Lindsey Kay

E

This is the ABQ Business Podcast with your host Jason Rigby. Each week we interview leading business leaders to inspire the vision and the spirit that is in every entrepreneur. We discuss strengths, weakness, strategies, systems and the problems we can all solve together to fulfill a shared vision of a new future for Small Business. About Paws and Stripes: Paws and Stripes was founded in Rio Rancho in 2010 by Lindsey Kay. Lindsey was motivated by her passion for dogs, love of her country and those who have sacrificed so much to protect it. A veteran family member of Lindsey's suffering from PTSD and TBI motivated her to research multiple organizations, but was unable to pay for service dogs due to the high cost. This inspired the inception of an organization dedicated to providing service dogs at no cost to veterans in order to fill this critical unmet need for veterans. In 2010, Paws and Stripes graduated their first team. By 2012, Paws and Stripes officially integrated a mental health component to its training programs. Since inception almost 10 years ago, Paws and Stripes has served veterans, rescued and rehabilitated shelter dogs as service dogs and refined its mental health programming. In the early days, Paws and Stripes received press and recognition for the unique and much needed programming from Time Magazine, Bark Magazine, Lisa Ling's Our America, Stephen Colbert's Dream Fund, and Tractor Supply Magazine in addition to presenting internationally in Croatia and nationally in New York and at Yale University. In 2014, A&E's docu-series, Dogs of War, featured 5 episodes about Paws and Stripes. In 2017, Paws and Stripes officially moved into a new facility, a generous donation to further its mission in Albuquerque. How To Donate: You as a business can give here I personally also give through Amazon Smile to Paws and Stripes every purchase you do with Amazon then they will donate to them (and it costs you nothing) read more here Please go to www.abqpodcast.com where you can get show notes, resources ,and links to everything we talked about today to help you navigate your journey as an entrepreneur and business owner in ABQ. We discuss strengths, weakness, strategies, systems and the problems we can all solve together to fulfill a shared vision of a new future for Small Business. The 2nd Agreement Don't take anything personally - Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering. The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom is a self-help book by bestselling author Don Miguel Ruiz with Janet Mills. The book offers a code of conduct based on ancient Toltec wisdom that advocates freedom from self-limiting beliefs that may cause suffering and limitation in a person's life. First published in 1997, the book has sold over 8.2 million copies in the US [1] and has been translated into 46 languages worldwide.[2] The book was also on the New York Times bestseller list for over a decade.[1] you can buy it on Amazon here Also other book I talked about Practicing Peace by Pema Chodron you can get here Please go to www.abqpodcast.com where you can get show notes, resources ,and links to everything we talked about today to help you navigate your journey as an entrepreneur and business owner in ABQ. And in business - as in life - the more fundamental the change, the higher the stakes. Adam Campbell is an organizational development consultant who helps teams and enterprises navigate business transformation (change), including startup growth. With over 25 years' experience in people- and process-optimization, Adam advocates cultural engagement as the largest influencer (lever) of long-term enterprise value. Conversely, he cites leadership waste as the largest negative lever. In 2016, Adam pivoted out of his 20-year corporate (Fortune 500) career to travel (much) of the world with his wife and kids, including a year living and working abroad in Slovakia, and traveling as much of Europe as possible!
