S1 Ep 43Albuquerque Distilling : We talk ABQ, Whiskey, Moonshine, Vodka, Rum, and ohh yeah Business too!

E

This is the Albuquerque Business Podcast with your host Jason Rigby. Each week we interview leading local business leaders to inspire the vision and the spirit that is in every entrepreneur. We discuss strengths, weakness, strategies, systems and the problems we can all solve together to fulfill a shared vision of a new future for Albuquerque. Special Guests Nick Pavlakos and Roger Peery of Albuquerque Distilling its on 5001 Central Ave NE Nick and Roger met when they were 13 years old in Mr. Corona's math class at Jefferson Middle School. This was such a long time ago they actually called it Junior High School in those days. Their friendship strengthened during the years they attended Highland High School. After graduation, Nick attended commercial art school in Denver, then returned home to graduate from UNM with a degree in business. Roger stayed in Albuquerque, and he ultimately finished college, earning degrees in both Geology and Water Resources from UNM. During those college years, Nick, Roger, and a buddy named Fritz, would take turns hosting the Sunday night airing of Star Trek (reruns of the original series), where they began to think about the future and businesses they could start together. In reality, none of them hosted the Trek watching, but rather either Nick or Fritz's mom, or Roger's grandma (Big Mom), would enjoy having the boys over, and they strongly impressed upon the young men the idea that when it's your turn to host, you need to treat people "extra special". After college, setting aside the mantra of "Live long and prosper", Nick and Roger married, starting families, having kids, and working in their chosen fields. Many moons later…or galaxies as the case may be, Roger and Nick again revisited the idea of "businesses they could start together", but this time looking to the past. They began researching and learning about the art of "old-fashioned" distilling and the idea of "hand crafting" quality liquor for people to enjoy. Years later, and after numerous hurdles with partnerships, permitting, and buildout, the two brought together their love of "hand crafted" spirits, and the ideals of their past hostesses…to treat people "extra special" at your place, and opened Albuquerque Distilling in late August 2019. With his business chops, Nick runs the front of the house. With his science background, Roger is in charge of spirits manufacturing. Nick, the Executive Director at Share Your Care, Inc., a local Adult Day Services provider, and Roger, the CEO and a Principal Hydrogeologist at John Shomaker & Associates, a local consulting firm, plan on keeping their day jobs as they manage the distillery. They will rely on their knowledgeable staff to assure patrons of a quality experience every day. Eventually, Nick and Roger's plan is to retire from their careers and just make high quality hooch all day. please go their website here Please go to www.abqpodcast.com where you can get show notes, resources, and links to everything we talked about today to help you navigate your journey as an entrepreneur and business owner in ABQ. Leadership is the ability to influence action, in order to do so a leader must be inspired. This basic principle is a primary building block in my belief as a leader and for the past 20 years I have emulated this in order to grow. I've chosen a path that requires curiosity, patience and consistency all in which are exemplified in my experience as a General Sales Manager. Being the first of the kind for a fast paced retail operation, I had to establish processes and procedures that directly impacted training for Store Managers, Sales Managers and Sales Professionals in the organization. Also, mentoring other General Sales Managers throughout the company on a day to day basis, each day presented its own unique opportunities to provide mentorship through the most challenging situations as well as celebrate each individual's peak performances. S1 Ep 28Special Show: I Get Interviewed by Author Sam IV on his Show PRA Podcast Network

This is the Albuquerque Business Podcast with your host Jason Rigby Each week we interview leading local business leaders to inspire the vision and the spirit that is in every entrepreneur. We discuss strengths, weakness, strategies, systems and the problems we can all solve together to fulfill a shared vision of a new future for Albuquerque. This show was me getting interviewed by Sam on his show PRA Podcast Network and we talked about my life and passion. A little about Sam and his book he authored: Samuel was born in Germany. His father was in the Air Force and mom just out of high school at the time. Two years later returned to the U.S. and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, living in a little trailer park. As time went on his sister and brother were born and money, of course, became an even bigger issue. After countless losses in the family due to unforeseen circumstances, car accidents, and mental illness in a small span of over a year, this caused a ripple effect and trickled down until it hit him. Finances can definitely take a toll. Due to stress, high levels of worry and just complete lack of fulfillment his parents had decided to get a divorce. This was incredibly hard. He had finally graduated high school and was attending Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico at the time. This is when most people gain influence that will dictate who they become. This led to a major detachment though from everyone and left him feeling alone. This when he started making real mistakes. he did very well in school but dropped out after one semester, because he decided he needed to move back to Albuquerque, New Mexico to help out with his newborn son and became very lost after that point. He was 19 at the time. A year and a half later, met his now wife and had his daughter. It was time to step up. So what he did was begin researching how to become better in certain fields which at the time was music. What has been realized is that the underlying factor in which has withstood everything is progression, and what it is able to do once we're able to see it. We tend to look at the flaws and not the beauty. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder because the beholder has the power over what they perceive to be beautiful. Most people don't see the beauty in life so they won't dare try to see the beauty in themselves. That's what this book is designed to help with. You can order his new book HERE or DM me on Instagram at @abqjasonrigby and I will send you free paperback copy. His book is Jericho's Journey: A Journey of Self Discovery Through Progression Gratitude for Today, Momentum for Tomorrow, Energy for the World, Empathy for Others, and Awareness for Ourselves. It was in his pursuit to find answers that Samuel found the need to write a book on every single thing he had experienced. There are coaches, mentors and other successful people out there that will speak of transforming your life in order to create wealth. While that all may be amazing and 100% true what he believes is that in order to even be prepared to take on that forefront you will need some baseline principles and that's what the cycle will grant you. When you fully become familiar with the cycle in its entirety you are now in the process of unlocking potential, figuring out how far you need to reach and using relentless aggression to never give up in your pursuit. Which is what progression is all about! The Cycle of Fulfillment Is a constant rotation focusing on; Mental, Physical, and Spiritual Health, Relationships, as well as Purpose. Baseline Principles are what each part of the cycle will grant you in life when each one is being focused on. The key is to create sustainable fulfillment. S1 Ep 5Albuquerque Business Podcast with Special Guest Peter Trevisani

Special Guest Peter Trevisani Owner CEO of New Mexico United Soccer Team in Albuquerque www.newmexicoutd.com A graduate of Boston College, and Columbia University, Peter Trevisani, is the first Club President and CEO of New Mexico United. He is motivated by a commitment to community, a love of competition, and a concrete belief that soccer can pave the path to meaningful growth in the state of New Mexico. Born just outside of Boston, MA, sometime between the Boston Tea Party and Tom Brady being drafted, Peter attended Boston College where he played the other kind of football: American Football. After graduating, and attempting to go pro in Italy, he spent three years building personal computers for small businesses in Boston before trading his floppy drive in for a calculator and embarking on the path of finance. It started with an MBA from Columbia University and finished 16 years later in Santa Fe, NM, where he was a Partner at Thornburg Investment Management. After leaving Thornburg in 2015, Peter wrote down 5 things that he loved, besides his family. One was immersive theater. His passion for immersive theater lead to an early investment and advisory work with the Santa Fe art collective, Meow Wolf. Another was health and fitness. This inspired "Project 47" a self-induced fitness challenge where Peter worked out for 47 days in a row, but each workout involved a different fitness discipline. This challenge lead Peter to some familiar workouts such as crossfit and mountain biking but it also found him in some less comfortable environments, such as a water aerobics class and playing dodgeball with the 6th grade class at his son's school. Peter also listed the word "Community". It was this single word that inspired him to lead a group of like-minded individuals who shared his vision to inspire and elevate fellow New Mexicans. The medium for this change and inspiration… soccer. Peter sees this team as a vehicle for community engagement and the catalyst for systemic change. The club will compete at an elite level, with the foundational goals of winning the USL and Open Cup, but beyond that, it will overtly, and positively improve the self-worth of this beautiful state. When he is not focused on community, health and fitness, immersive theater, music or learning, Peter can be found with his wife of 20 years Wendy, three generally well behaved kids Blake, Luke and Pierce and man-dog, Tyrone. S1 Ep 1Albuquerque Business Podcast with Special Guest Robert Smith

This is the Albuquerque Business Podcast with your host Jason Rigby Each week we interview leading local business leaders to inspire the vision and the spirit that is in every entrepreneur. Discussing strengths, weakness, strategies, systems and the problems we can all solve together to fulfill a shared vision of a new future for Albuquerque. Our Guest Robert Smith is a father, husband, entertainer and speaker. He started his entertainment career as a magician in 1997 and went on to have some of America's largest companies and events as clients including Walt Disney World and Sea World. In 2004, Robert made his first fair appearance at the Nevada State Fair. He'd spend the next 7 years struggling to find long term success with his magic show in the fair market. In 2011, recognizing the fair industry was saturated with magicians, Robert knew he needed to make a change or he would continue to struggle. In May of 2011, a friend suggested Robert build a fortune machine, like the one in the Tom Hanks movie, "Big." Hesitant at first, Robert set out to design what would come to be known as Conjurer Fortune Machine. The act featured Robert portraying the mechanical fortune teller and went on to be booked into America's largest fairs including the Los Angeles County Fair, Ohio State Fair, Arizona State Fair and OC Fair in Costa Mesa, California. SOCIAL MEDIA 434 Over the course of his career, from 2004-2016, Robert sat back and learned as much as he could about the fair industry's marketing tactics and approaches. During that time, the world began to transition in the largest communication shift humanity has ever known, smartphones and the internet at scale. Robert quickly noticed that many fairs and brands were spending hundreds of thousands of dollars marketing like it was still 2003. Or worse, 1993. Billboards, pop-up banner ads, print, and traditional 30-second ads on radio and television. The problem? Moving forward in a modern digital world and beyond, those mediums are ridiculously over-priced. In February of 2017, Robert started sharing marketing information with fairs and outdoor event planners. As Robert began to expand his personal brand into the realm of digital marketing, there was immediate push back from traditional marketers. Robert was told "everyone is laughing at you behind your back." Unaffected, Robert continued to sculpt his personal brand and message. Robert knew the name for his presentation needed to reflect the content. This would not be the 101 level information many others share. It needed to go beyond the 101 level tactics and get into a real understanding of "why," digital marketing works in a tech driven world. With that, SOCIAL MEDIA 434 was born. SOCIAL MEDIA 434 is an advanced level session on digital marketing in the modern world. It's purpose, to help your group move beyond the, "what and how," and understand the, "why," of today's digital marketing. If you would like Robert to consult with your group, or come and speak to them go this website at https://meetrobertsmith.squarespace.com/aboutrobert/
