Episode 111: Mortal Kombat (2021) Review
EThis week’s episode of Save Room news is a hybrid one since we had so much to talk about. We’re calling this zany format Save Room News Plays Reviews—we’ll leave it up to the audience to see if it sticks. This week: Jeff Kaplan has abandoned the Overwatch payload and is leaving Blizzard; Josef Fares is pleased that It Takes Two has surpassed 1 million copies sold; and Sony has flip flopped on their decision to close the PS3 and Vita digital storefronts. We’re also playing Nier Replicant (and we’re kind of obsessed with it). For our topic we reviewed the new Mortal Kombat movie which just released in theatres and on HBO Max. It’s a bloody good time full of quips, gruesome fatalities, and a whole lotta Kano. ———————————————————————— Time cuts: -Intro: 0:00:00 -News Drop: 0:07:55 -Nier Replicant Impressions: 0:35:21 -Mortal Kombat (2021) Movie Review: 0:45:46

Save Room Reviews: Monster Hunter (2020)
ESave Room Reviews is back! This week we watched Paul "Won't Stop" Anderson's latest cinematic video game adaptation, Monster Hunter, so you didn't have to. This is easily the strangest MonHun adaption we could've gotten, but credit to Paul--it kinda works. It's equal parts action movies, horror movie, and a buddy movie and we surprisingly didn't hate it. It even may be Paul's best movie since Event Horizon. If you're hoping for a sweeping gallery of monsters and lush environments--you'll be disappointed. But if you're willing to tap into Paul's mind for the 1 hour 44 minute run time--you'll get Tony Jaa hunting a Deviljovovich; Ron Perlmann with the most monstrous side burns; and Palicos with abs. Sound enticing? Well then sharpen your switch axe--it's time to jump into this Monster Hunter World.

Save Room Plays: What Does Microsoft's Bethesda Deal Mean for Sony?
ESave Room Plays is back! This week we're kicking back and talking DMC: Devil May Cry, The Pathless, Maquette, and Haven. We're also stealing hearts and giving our combined impressions of both Persona 5 Royal and Persona 5 Strikers. And for the topic: Microsoft officially closes their sizable purchase of Bethesda. But what does this mean for exclusivity, Sony, and the rest of the industry?

EThis week on The Save Room, we deep-dive the first Nintendo Direct of 2021 and Blizzconline, and discuss if fan expectations are too high in anticipation for these events. We also talk about the new Mortal Kombat movie trailer. Did you hear there’s a blood dagger in it? It’s pretty wild.

Episode 104: Geoff Keighley's Braindance 2020
EGeoff said "the pandemic be damned, my World Premieres shall not be World Preempted" and made sure The Game Awards went on! Video games' longest and best commercial brought us tons of announcements, tons of award winners, and tons of licensed music to make streamers sweat DMCA bullets. There was so much show we had to call backup: special guest Nicholas Stinchcombe (of @MakeMonsters fame)! Prepare for a slobberknocker of an episode.

Save Room Reviews: Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
ESave Room Reviews returns and this week we're reviewing our first next-gen game for the PS5: Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. That's right, Jonah Jameson--the Spider-Man is back! Insomniac delivers on every front with this follow-up midquel, building on the foundation of what made 2018's Spider-Man amazing and trimming out the fat in favor of a leaner story for Miles and his cast of characters. Thwipping up baddies and swinging through New York feels buttery smooth and is only elevated by the PS5. This game is oozing with style, heartfelt moments, and yes--you can pet the cat. We honestly can't rave about this game enough. So watch out for Spiders, man, because this is a must-play launch title.

Episode 103: Curse of the DMCA
EThe dreaded DMCA has flooded Twitch with copyright notices hitting streamers small and large. As streaming continues to grow, will the archaic copyright laws of yesteryear evolve to keep up? No, of course not. Meanwhile, PS5 launch day woes, Mortal Kombat's movie reboot is delayed, and Ghost of Tsushima breaks records for first-party, original PS4 games.

EWow. 100 episodes of gaming's most beloved podcast (that it doesn't know about). This spot is usually reserved for pithy comments and a cheap shot at Todd Howard, but instead, we just want to say thank you. Thank you for listening. Thank you for forming a community around this amateur audio journey that's lasted four years. Thank you for being a roommate. Rest assured, there's more to come. (Haha. "Come.") - Kevin & Daniel

Save Room Reviews: The Last of Us Part II (ft. ChelseaHeckaBad)
EThe Save Room Reviews returns and with us we have a very special guest and long-time friend. The Yakuza die-hard and gaming sensation known as ChelseaHeckaBad joins the boys as we sit down to deep-dive discuss the incredibly divisive Sony exclusive, The Last of Us Part II. The game has been a hot topic for fans and spectators for so many reasons but it can't be denied that Naughty Dog has delivered a masterclass of video game narrative with their latest endeavor. All 3 of us have different opinions on the game but that's the fun of having a critical discussion regarding a medium you love. In typical Save Room Reviews fashion this is an all-in spoiler cast so if you have yet to beat the game, save this for a rainy day until you have. Until next time, thanks for listening--be well and enjoy! ------------------------------------------------------------ -Opening song: "Beyond Desolation" courtesy of Gustavo Santaolallo and Sony. -Ending song: "Future Days" courtesy of Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, and Sony.

Episode 94: Back to the Future of PlayStation
EThe future of PlayStation is priceless! Seriously, Sony didn't announce a price for their next console. But what they did do was pummel us with exclusive after exclusive. We breakdown the entire PS5 event because that's just what gaming podcasts do -- they regurgitate things you can easily watch yourself. Special thanks to Gamespot for compiling the list we used to keep the whole event straight: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-reveal-event-heres-every-new-game-and-detail-r/1100-6478266/

Episode 93: Jim Ryan's Playstation 5 Promises
ERoommates, due to the recent state of affairs--the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, the unjust death of George Floyd, and all of the protests going on nationwide--this is a bit of a nonstandard episode for us. We ask that you do your part to educate yourselves on the Black Lives Matter movement and various other organizations that benefit people of color and donate if you can. We understand that on top of a world-wide pandemic that times are hard and donating may not be possible, but in the least spread awareness and do your part as an ally to stand in solidarity and support a cause that needs your help. Full stop--things need to change. No one should be murdered due to the color of their skin and it's our hope we all stand in agreement on that. Thank you all for being the best roommates we could ask for. We hope you are all staying safe, wherever you are listening from. https://blacklivesmatter.com https://colorofchange.org

Episode 90: Is Capcom Remaking Resident Evil 4?
EPretty rude of Capcom to have Resident Evil 4 Remake news leak AFTER we had back-to-back episodes about the series. Also! - Sony may be planning to produce a limited amount of PlayStation 5 units 'cause components are scarce and those suckers cost! - Final Fantasy VII Remake's creators say it doesn't replace the original (they want you to buy both, duh)

Save Room Reviews: Resident Evil 3 (2020)
ESave Roommates, are you ready to see S.T.A.R.S because our official review for 2020's Resident Evil 3 Remake is here! And man, did we love it. While for us it doesn't hold a candle to last year's Resident Evil 2 Remake, it still is an intense action-packed reimagining of Jill Valentine's story against the threat of the ever-pursuing Nemesis. So grab your hip pouches and grenade launches 'cause this episode's full of tentacle whipping Bio-weapons, hunters, pale boys, and all the zombies. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Intro music "Resident Evil 3--Save Room Theme Cover A/B Mix" compliments of Mono Memory

Episode 89: Resident Evil 8 Sounds Great
EWe had the market cornered on "video game podcasts recorded from a bedroom" before anyone else! On this week's episode: - The Last of Us Part II is delayed! Indefinitely! Episode 87: E3 Done Got Cancelled!
EThis is the first time the annual gaming-palooza since its 1995 debut. Global crisis or no, E3's relevancy was beginning to wear. Question is, what's the future look like beyond E3? (If we have a future, that is, *ahem*) Plus, we discuss: - Naughty Dog is crunching like hell on The Last of Us Part II! - Sony is hellbent on resuscitating Silent Hill(s)! - CD Projekt Red is making a new Witcher and it just might come out in our lifetimes!

Save Room Plays: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Demo Impressions
ESave Room Plays is back and taking a one-stop trip to Midgar. That's right, we got our hands on the demo for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and woo boy, were we taken aback by the combat, graphics, and dialogue. April 10th can't come soon enough. This week we're also celebrating 20 years of the Playstation 2 and diving hard into our backlog during this release season draught. We're popping platinums, mood gaming, and just playing every game we can get our sticky gamer hands on.

Episode 86: We're Quarantined (and Still Talking About Video Game News)
EYour favorite Save Room boys have followed Seattle's recommendation to self-quarantine because, as gamers, restricting ourselves to our homes for extended periods of time and living off of Pop-Tarts is just another Saturday. Otherwise, it's business as usual until the sky falls. On this episode, we discuss: - The Last of Us is getting an HBO series! - Does Kevin's throat tingle mean he's dying? (Yes) - Google has propped up a new Stadia studio! - There's a new Amnesia game coming out this year! - WB Games is a wand away from revealing their Harry Potter RPG!

Save Room Reviews: Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
EThe year is 2020 and we've survived many terrible video games adaptations since the dawn of gaming. When news hit of a Sonic movie adaptation being in the works a few years back, the internet groaned over what would potentially be another needless video game movie, as well as a box office flop. Luckily for Sonic fans, we finally got a film adaptation of the blue blur that in the least is passable. If you weren't sold on checking it out--well, good news for you: your faithful Save Room Boys watched the movie so you didn't have to. The journey of this film is almost as tumultuous as Sonic's history with video games. When the initial design for the hedgehog's screen debut was revealed last year, the internet was horrified by what they considered to actually be the blue devil himself. But Fowler and team worked hard to deliver a redesign that both fans and the team were happy with. Their work and care paid off. While we don't get quite the testament to Sonic's lineage like we did with Spidey and 2018's Into the Spiderverse, we do get a treatment with just enough references and fun easter eggs for long-time fans. The movie is a fun, fast-dash of a time that will have kids laughing and fans mostly satisfied. With a cast of A-list celebrities we get what is probably the best we'll get for the franchise on the silver screen (that is until the inevitable sequel). So join us as we give our thoughts on the film and bear witness as Daniel makes Kevin suffer through talks of the games, his affinity for Soaps, and his long-standing love for the franchise. ---------------------------------------------------------- Music credits: -"Sega Logo" intro theme" compliments of Sega. -"Sonic 1" intro theme cover compliments of Sega and Steven Padin. -"Green Hill Zone" piano cover compliments of Sega, Universal Music Group, and Jon Batiste. -----------------------------

Episode 83: Is Silent Hill Back from the Dead?
EIn my restless dreams, I see that town... But in reality we haven't had a proper Silent Hill since 2012 (demos for cancelled Kojima games notwithstanding). Rumors suggest Konami is planning a big comeback for the series, but will Christophe Gans beat them to the punch with a new movie?(!) Plus: - Resident Evil 8 might have werewolves? - That Star Wars license is finally working out for EA! - The Nintendo Switch might've outsold the Xbox! - Google is excited to share more info about Stadia games in the same statement where it doesn't share more info about Stadia games!
