Ep 184Alexa, Say Hello
Mike discusses leaving Dunkin at the vet to have a bunch of things done. He says he was surprised they just took the dog right away rather than scheduling a new appointment for another day. They discuss that the vet is all about the animals and not all about the money. They then discuss their weekend trip to Universal City on the train. Torya says it was exhausting and Mike says it was much more relaxing than driving. They discuss the guy selling iPhone charger cables. They introduced Alexa that they received for free. Mike says he thinks she's pretty useless thus far.

Ep 183Racists
Mike opens the show talking the Buena Park City Council race. He wonders why calling someone a thief who was caught stealing is considered “racist”? He says that it makes those people the racists. Torya feels that when people jump to the race card, they likely have something they are hiding. Mike claims the truth is the ultimate defense to everything. If you own it everyone can move on. They transition to speak about the final cross country meet and the start of soccer tryouts at high school.

Ep 182The Loon Bags!
EMike opens the show talking about Torya's new favorite word — loon bag. It literally means “bag of loons”, but that isn't how Torya views it. She sees it as a bag of lunatics. Torya says that the Urban Dictionary definition of the word is wrong and tells people to look up the definition of “Michael” in the Urban Dictionary. Mike speaks about Tomi Lahren and why she is so popular. She isn't afraid to say what's on her mind. He says that's why America elected Donald Trump. They thought they were getting a straight shooter and instead they got a bumbling idiot. America didn't know enough about him before they elected the guy. Mike says Trump is not as smart as he thinks he is. Torya says Trump is not as eloquent as he thinks it is. Mike says Tomi is better at age 26 than Trump is. She just says what is on her mind. Nothing has ever been handed to her. Mike says we need more intelligent people who are willing to say what's on their mind. He says Tomi's approach in the hands of a President would be unstoppable. Torya says she hasn't given it any thought. Mike gives examples of why he believes a blunt President would be very effective. Mike points out that nobody can be direct without people being offended. Torya says people seem to always be offended. Mike says with Trump, people get offended by every single thing he says or does. Mike transitions to a discussion about Buena Park District 1 City Council election. One of the candidates, Sunny Park, was caught stealing signs. Her supporters call people racist if they say Sunny Park is a thief, but she was caught stealing!

Ep 181Lying to Get Their Way
Mike opens the show stating how people make him want to jump off the roof. They then discuss the candidate's forum they went to and Mike has to rant about the people who lie and say whatever they want to get their way. Mike then rants about Cypress Measure M and the lies being told about it. He states the facts as he knows them. Mike rants about the people who rant and rave about things and everyone should listen to them, yet they don't bother to tell the truth. This type of thing drives him crazy. He says voters should do our own research, vote on our own, should not vote how someone else tells them to vote and should understand what they are voting for or against. Mike is angry that a grown adult wants to tell another grown adult how to act. If you don't want to be called clueless, get a clue. If you don't want to be called a liar, don't lie. It is simple. Mike challenges a naysayer to a debate and of course they won't ever accept. They can't handle the facts. Mike and Torya greatly dislike people who resort to lying to get their way. They get upset that people are lemmings and allow people who are lying to convince them without doing any research at all.

Ep 180Random Issues
Mike opens the show discussing a boxing match involving Teen Mom OG former star, Farrah Abraham and legalization of marijuana in Canada and how it is going to cause issues crossing the border. Mike says that laws that are out of sync with reality need to be changed. Torya explains the problem with Mike's premise that the legalization of marijuana in Canada might cause problems. Mike sees this as still a problem. He says that states that legalized marijuana are going back and expunging marijuana convictions. He wants to know why they can be banned for something they no longer have on their record. Torya discusses her conversation with her mother and tells about the dolls her mom has purchased. They next discuss Odie and his health issues.

Ep 179Etiquette lessons
Mike talks about how the topics are decided upon for The Nightly Rant. He says that at times he thinks about them for days and days while other times they hit him out of the blue. Mike discusses being lectured on etiquette by someone from social media. The person is abrasive and rude. Mike explains how it makes him feel. Mike says that the mute feature for admins on Facebook groups is ingenious. He says it shows people they have rules to follow and by muting them, they can still read and react to posts, but they cannot comment again until the mute is over. It calms people down. Mike discusses how some people don't like the presence of The Zoo during the show. He says they are part of the show and people need to get used to it or not listen. He obviously hopes they listen, but he isn't banning The Zoo to make other people happy. They then rant about people who advocate for crazy things and how people just follow along! Mike rants about willful ignorance. The rant turns to politics, local politics to be specific. People tend to assign a stance to someone that the person doesn't actually believe. Torya says “How about you don't”? Mike says you can find people who are like-minded and then you can find people who are like you. Those who are like you tend to connect better.

Apparently Yogi hid a bunch of candy while they were gone for dinner. This is not the first time he has done that. He loves hiding candy in the furniture so he can eat more candy when we leave. Torya tells a story about Yogi's initial time hiding candy. She remembers it like it was yesterday. Mike is shocked that Torya is the one who left the candy out. He goes on a rant about that aspect. Mike continues the story of the restaurant that left his beef out of the dish. He says they handled it quite well. He was impressed by their service. Mike critiques the food they ate. He then rants about Torya and how quiet she is. He says he is in the mood to riff on any topic. Torya rants about Mike searching for a burger place near the yogurt place they went to. Mike says he is like Alyssa when it comes to drama. He is no longer taking the drama people dish out. This woman had created a carport patio when she moved in over a year ago. This was directly violating the rules and yet she wants to tell everyone else how to act. Mike then describes how this person private messaged him. He eventually got very blunt and told her that she was being disrespectful. He told her she has a victim mentality. He turned off her ability to message him for a while and that set her off even more. This person then messaged Torya when Mike blocked her ability to message him. She complains about the treatment she received. She completely lied about the conversation and Torya knew this because she had seen all the messages. Torya nicely asked her not to bring drama to her in box. The woman blocked Torya and Mike on Facebook after that. This got her removed from the group. This lady believes the manager should be babysitting adults rather than running the building. This leads to a discussion of the rules people rebel against in their building. They point out that there are rules that never get enforced unless they are a huge problem.

In this Best of TNR episode, Mike and Torya return to Episode 19: Know it All People to tell you about the annoying people who think they know it all.

Ep 161Restaurants...Good, Mediocre and Bad
Mike and Torya visited restaurant land this week. There is an obvious reason most restaurants fail after one year. Mike says either the food is damned good or it sucks. Mike and Torya have experienced both in the last week. They begin by discussing the bad. This place they went to called Urban Cup just opened near their home. The prices were high, the noise level was extremely high. There is not enough seating for customers. When the food came it was not even edible. They wound up at McDonalds. Next on the list is Pizza Press. Mike says this one is just average. It is just another Subway style pizza place with branding around newspapers. It is in a stupid mall called The Source. This mall barely had any tenants and has been open a long time. Mike says that Pizza Press was just OK. Torya liked it a lot. Finally, they speak about an Indian buffet restaurant. The staff was amazingly nice. The food was great. The quality of the food was high. The place even offered to let them take a dish of food home since they were closing down for the afternoon. This place is called India Table, 2955 West Ball Road, Anaheim, CA.

Ep 160Dad Jokes!
The promised dad joke episode is here. You need to listen to hear these great dad jokes. They discuss why dad jokes are seen as not very funny. The discussion includes what makes a joke a dad joke. What do you call a cow with 3 legs? Tri-tip What do you call a cow with no legs? Ground beef. Did you hear about Mitchell? He went to a seafood restaurant last week and pulled a mussel. They begin discussing why sometimes dad jokes make no sense. In a way that makes them even funnier.

Ep 159Lake of Trash Juice
Do people have the ability to care about others? Are people able to be accommodating to others? Mike's opinion is that people don't give any thought to strangers. He says what starts to happen is that people will begin talking to one another and they begin to care what those people think of their behavior. Torya points out that Mike is saying if everyone in the apartment complex got to know each other, things would immediately get better. Mike points out that the problem is that there are groups of people that never see each other. Thus, their actions won't matter to those who never see them. Another discussion ensues about the garbage dumpster. The problem is on-going. Mike wonders who teaches people to act this way. Torya points to the people who left a bunch of trash liquid on the elevator floor. She points out that she wouldn't be leaving that kind of mess there. They point out how bad it could have turned out had Torya slipped and fell in the elevator. Mike transitions to a discussion about The Zoo Media Network. He is planning to relaunch it with less content, but with better content. They talk about the content that will be on the network. They announce the new show, The Nightly Rant Uncensored. It will be a topical show that uses much more colorful language than this show. Mike has big news. Ashley is moving in with them for a few months until she goes to Australia. They will also be making an appearance on The Bitter Truth together. Mike wants to know what the listeners want to hear on The Zoo Media Network. No porn or anything gross is allowed.

Ep 157Goodbye Club Soccer
Mike opens the show talking about the difficult decision Mitchell had to make. Mike says he is proud of Mitchell for taking his time and doing what he felt was best for him and for handling it 100% on his own. Mitchell wants to focus on his schoolwork. He will play soccer on his high school soccer team. Mitchell acted like an adult and explained the decision to his coach on his own. Mike and Torya discuss how much more time they will have. Mitchell mentioned high school has more practice than the club, but Mike points out that it happens during school hours. Mitch will come home a bit later, but won't have to go out again to another practice. Mike says he is glad he won't be getting home at 10 pm each night. He will miss the parents, coaches and the kids. They then discussed the reasons Mitchell made the decision he did. Mike continues to say he is extremely proud of Mitchell for handling the decision like an adult. Mike discusses the age difference between he and Torya and how it is nobody else's business. He says that no matter what anyone feels about that age difference, it will never affect others. Mike discusses the conflict he personally has with Mitchell's decision. He will miss his friends from the team and the fun times they had. He won't miss the asshole parents on the team. Thankfully, that's a small number of parents. They then discuss how Mitchell got to make this decision in his way. No interference. He took his time.

Ep 156The Bernie Sanders Tax
Mike opens the show talking about their lunch with a friend, George Reis. Suddenly a voice is heard and it is... ABE ABDELHADI! Abe is the host of The Bitter Truth and a friend of the show. He joins Mike and Torya in this episode. Abe says he arrived on the trolley. Mike says Abe is very opinionated and he will make you laugh. Abe talks about how he is no longer uncomfortable telling people not to eat his food. Mike says that since we are talking about the Mafia we may as well talk about Bernie Sanders and his Amazon tax. Mike explains and introduces the Amazon tax idea. Before they get on that topic Mike explains how someone sent a cease and desist. He claimed Mike was violating his trademark and it turned out that all he had was a domain name. Abe thinks Bernie's idea is great. Abe gives a bunch of statistics. He gives the history of corporate welfare. Abe claims that Amazon should be forced to pay a living wage. Of course, this riles up Mike, who doesn't believe in forcing anyone to do anything. Abe is tired of paying for social services for Amazon employees. He says Bezos doesn't pay enough in taxes. Mike says that if they would change the regulations that give them the corporate welfare. Abe claims Mike isn't really Libertarian. Mike asks who decides what is a living wage. He says there is a reason people take the jobs. Amazon pays their average warehouse worker $15 an hour when the national average is $13.50. Abe disagrees and claims those rates include stock options. Torya backs Mike up on the wage. Mike says that each area decides the living wage. Abe starts ranting about the ethics of not paying a living wage. Mike says we don't get to tell Bezos what to do with his money. Mike points out that laws already exist to handle the issues Abe has with Amazon. Mike says that what Abe wants to do is have the government that failed to enforce the original law to create a new law to handle the issue. Abe takes this on a tangent towards rapists. Mike reiterates that Abe admitted it is the government's fault. Abe claims that's only half true. Torya says she agrees mostly with Mike and thinks this idea is really dumb. Abe goes on a rant about CEO salaries. Torya says there are better solutions than what is being proposed. Mike points out that he and Abe disagree and they still like each other. Adults can disagree and get along.

Ep 153Reunited and It Feels So Good
EMike says Torya's opinion has changed on the issue of the dog. He asks her to explain it. She tells him he has to explain it. She says his words were random and he says they were specific. He says she refuses to answer why they are talking about Odie. Apparently, Odie is coming back. He was making the cat super nervous so they have to give him up. Mike gives Torya some trouble about looking at her phone. She fights back. Odie is returning in the afternoon. He will likely be a little bit sad, but he should adjust quickly. Mike says he totally understands why they would return the dog if it couldn't get along with the cat. Mike asks Torya about the new people in the building. Torya says that about 30 of 66 units turned over. Torya isn't a big fan of the new people. They discuss the issues that have arisen and they feel it is the fault of the new tenants. Mike says that trash issues have never existed as they do now. Mike declares that the gator (toy) has lost a leg! It took a year, but it happened. They enter into a discussion about Odie and how sad they are for him. Mike declares Torya the sassiest person to ever live on the earth. Mike says he has been staying out of the Supreme Court nominee debate because he can see both sides. He finds the timing weird, but he also understands how these things happen. He feels that her being more vague is more believable than if she had extremely precise details. Torya says they are trying to make it a political play. Mike points out that it can only be a political play if it is false. He rants about that topic because it annoys him.

Ep 152Best of TNR: Episode 64: Not Everyone Wants to Live in a Parking Lot
In this Best of TNR Episode we return to Episode 64: Not Everyone Wants to Live in a Parking Lot

Ep 151Steroid Ridden Squirrels Hurling Acorns
The show opens with Mike and Torya discussing Odie's upcoming adoption. They are both excited and sad. They are excited for Odie, but will be sad to see the sweet little guy go. Torya says that Yogi might start liking her again. She then describes what happened when they rescued a bunch of kittens. Mike says it is exciting for Odie because Odie seems to like the new people and the new people clearly like him. The discussion moves to the cross-country meet this weekend. They discuss Alyssa's involvement in her friend's "court." She couldn't go to the meet, but Mitchell was extremely excited. Mike describes how the race happened. They couldn't find Mitchell, so Mike was worried about him. It turns out that Mitchell sprained his ankle 3 minutes into the race. Mitchell is now attempting to heal up. They then discuss how kids always want to try out crutches with no idea of how bad they really are. Mike transitions to a discussion about the online grade tracking system the school uses. He discusses some of the downfalls of that system. Torya mentions the Best of TNR episode called "Patrick From Newport Beach" and wants to describe a similar situation. Apparently a renter from one of the properties Torya manages has complained that the trees are dropping acorns on her car. The tenant was told to park elsewhere, but she stayed where she was. The next day she complained the acorns had dented her brand new car. They discuss whether or not the car is actually new. This tenant made the claim that the acorns broke her windshield just by dropping from the tree. Mike says that he has read some of the people who do AirBNB use this to scam landlords.

Ep 150Odie is Ready to Be Adopted
Mike opens the show talking about Parker's visit to the vet. He and Torya agree that they hate health issues with family members. Parker had a blood and urine test and they will find out the results tomorrow. Mike talks about how Google is not your friend in these situations. You begin thinking everything is what they have and scaring yourself. He asks why they weren't told to force feed Parker and Torya gives a great explanation. Mike discusses how Odie has started to accept him. He also mentions how much slimmer Odie is and how much more mobile he has become since losing the weight. This dog is a completely different animal lately, so they have given him more freedom in the house. It has worked out tremendously. Torya explains the reason they used to need to crate Odie. She describes his first few days in their home and how he acted. Mike says that Alyssa is trying very hard not to become attached to Odie because she's finally realized they are serious and he is going to be adopted at some point. They are not keeping him. Mike says the adoption needs to happen soon because it will be too hard on the dog if it doesn't. The discussion moves on to the Zoo and a brief update on them. They move the discussion to Mitchell's Spanish class project. He has been assigned to create a bag that contains photos about his hobbies and the things he likes. It is supposed to show things about him.

Ep 149Tragedy Strikes AGain!
Mike opens the show discussing the shooting that occurred. He says this will create another round of yelling and screaming about terrorism, gun control, etc. They discuss the circus that was going from one council meeting to council meeting. Torya asks for more information. Mike explains what occurred. Torya wonders why there are more shootings like this in the United States than anywhere else. Mike says some people say it is caused by the shadow government that is in existence. The "Deep State" is responsible. Mike suggests watching Scandal from start to finish to understand this better. Mike says he needs to fix the problem wherein he doesn't hear certain things people tell him. Torya laughs and Mike tells her he is serious. Mike asks if Torya thinks gun control would fix this. She says we don't know enough about this yet. She says the last shooting was all about mental health issues. Mike says that mental health issues cause these unstable people to act this way. Mike says his instincts make him want to protect someone who is being attacked. He tells a story about a friend of his mom's who was raped. Somehow they get on the topic of the In-N-Out Burger boycott. Torya says people need to take some time to think before they speak. Torya describes the Canadian way of handling firearms licensing and safety. They then discuss how important the mental health discussion is. They ask why it is never discussed when there is a tragedy like this one.

Ep 148Pete the Possum Scares Everyone!
Mike opens the show by asking a question which is answered by the word "possum." Torya argues that it is "opossum." Mike explains that when he went to pick up the kids for school he noticed bedlam in the kitchen. The kids describe the previous night. Apparently, a possum licked their mom's foot and then scurried under the couch. Everyone searched and could find nothing, so they told her she was nuts. Apparently, the possum caused havoc in the kitchen overnight. Mike took the time to open up the screen in the kitchen to assist the possum in leaving the house. Torya says Mike left out the best part of the story which is the text message where Mike's ex-wife asked him to bring Yogi over to help sniff out the possum. Torya then confirms Mike was correct and "possum" is what is used here in the United States. Once again, Mike was right! The possum was not found. They assume the possum left. Mike says even Google failed to help with the possum. All it could tell you is how to keep possums out of your house, but not how to chase them away. Mike then relates an older possum story where he saw one climbing up a screen on a window at his old house. Torya brings up packrats.

Ep 147What Happened to Decorum?
This episode opens with a discussion of how Odie was barking at Pretty Girl earlier. Mike and Torya describe what happened in detail. The description should make any person laugh. Mike talks about how he loves that Odie is albino. Mike describes how Pretty Girl dealt with Odie. Mike then goes into a rant about some ladies at Chili's during their dinner who were so loud. They acted like they were in a bar and were oblivious to others around them. Mike doesn't understand why loud people aren't more careful about their volume. Mike transitions to discuss how some people are so selfish that they make you uncomfortable. He compares this to the situation with the loud people.

Ep 146Did You Decide Fascism Isn't For You?
EMike opens the episode with a story about the two dogs barking at the front door. This leads to a discussion about what is considered reasonable. Torya thinks the manager is telling people the parking rules when they move in and that is helping alleviate the problems they've been having. Mike gets extremely confused by Torya's logic. She explains further and it gets cleared up. They then discuss how they feel about the word "boycott" and explain why they feel that way. Mike wants to know what specifically about the word bothers Torya. This leads to a discussion of In-n-Out Burger and the boycott Democrats are demanding. They demand this because In-n-Out Burger donated money to the California Republican Party. Mike points out that they also donated to the California Democrat Party as well. Why boycott them for donating to both places? Mike says this is an example of how people create narratives and then push them on us. Mike and Torya give listeners insight into how the topics for each episode are chosen. Torya is angry that people want to guilt others into doing things their way. She says discuss issues and let people decide what to do. She says boycotts are historically started by fringe elements and she likes to live in the middle. This leads to a discussion of probable cause for the police to stop a driver. Torya sees no issues, but Mike gives examples of where problems can arise. Mike says you can't give in on things because the line will keep moving. Somehow they begin discussing what would happen if people walked around naked. Mike says that Torya's attitude causes a problem. When you believe things are OK until a problem is proven, they allow the problem to happen. Torya points out that she comes from Canada and she trusts law enforcement. People in the United States do not trust law enforcement. He still says that corruption can occur and you must have rules in place to avoid that corruption. This leads to a nice discussion about trusting the police. They decide this all has to do with your experience. Torya describes her experience with the police and why she trusts them as a result. Mike has different experiences. Mike rants about how important it is to understand how other people think.

Ep 145Best of TNR: Episode 24: How to Be an Adult on Facdebook
How to be an adult on Facebook? This episode talks all about that topic and more.

Ep 144Bank of America Under Fire
Mike opens the discussion by talking about his Facebook group, Purely Politics. He then leads the discussion into an article about Bank of America freezing someone's bank account because Bank of America thinks they might be illegal. He reads the article. This leads Mike to rant about the ridiculous things Bank of America has said in its defense. Apparently, this is not unique. Mike points out that the normal response will be "the government needs to pass regulations to stop this" but he feels the free market should decide. This leads to a discussion of past issues and how they were handled by the free market approach. The consensus is that Bank of America is going to lose a lot of business because of this story. Bank of America has caused pain to many people by the moves they've made. They need to see the wrath of the free market and competition with other banks.

Ep 143Best of TNR: Episode 44: A Pack of 7th Graders Running
In this episode we revisit Episode 44: A Pack of 7th Graders Running. Fun times!

Ep 142How to Work Fairly
"Busy is our usual state of being, but today was just more hectic!" -- Torya Mike appeared on The Bitter Truth with Abe Abdelhadi. Torya mentions that Abe will be on The Nightly Rant. Mike teases Torya about her engagement on the show. Torya wants to know why people from other countries think it is OK to tell you they will charge a lower rate for their work and then just charge you 15 times what they really should, which gives them more than 2 times the normal rate. They have an example from one of Torya's clients. Mike said it would take 2 hours and the client was charged 16.5 hours. An argument ensues about rates. Of course, Torya is correct as usual. Torya uses some other examples and says maybe they should increase their rates rather than charging too many hours. Mike goes into a discussion about how consistent work is more important than a huge rate, but that the rate is still very important because a low rate can lock you into some bad situations. Torya agrees. She says that package deals can use cheaper rates and then any overage charges can use a higher rate. This is because package deals enable you to plan while overage can't be planned. Torya feels that package deals are the best because you get control. If you want to fill 910 hours for a business, you can sell packages until you fill up the 910 hours. Yes, the package is based on the hourly rate, but it isn't variable. You charge for the package, not the hours. You set a boundary on how many hours you will work for that fee. You then know how busy you should be each month. It makes it easier to track things. Mike says he gets frustrated by companies that mess with their hours. He says they give a bad name to everyone else.

Ep 141Yogi's Neuroses
The show opens discussing Odie's meet and greet that ended with the woman not wanting him. This leads Mike to ask about Yogi's neurotic behavior. Torya's favorite neurotic thing Yogi does is the happy sounds he makes. She doesn't really like that he rage poos or that he headbutts his food bowl. Mike agrees with those, but he also says that another thing that drives him crazy is how Yogi will roll on his back when you say his name or how he hides if he feels you've raised your voice. Yogi holds a grudge. He will get mad at you and poo on the floor. Torya says that it drives her crazy how he treats his bed. Torya mentions that when Yogi is off the leash he will walk anywhere and not be afraid, but if he is on the leash he is scared and hugs the wall. He even treats people differently based on the location where he encounters them. Mike describes their first meeting with Yogi at the pound. He hasn't changed much. He scratched at the cage at the pound and he scratches at his crate. He has also always not liked Mitchell. Mike says Yogi is extremely consistent. You can count on him to act the same way. Torya says she thinks it is cute that they've taught Yogi to howl. He does it on demand. Mike brings up their super busy weekend. They have a soccer tournament and then a Dodger game. The entire weekend is booked solid. Mike hints at the possibility of a Dad jokes episode.

Ep 140Arguing Against Yourself When You Never Said It!
Mike begins the show sounding rather upset. He is tired of people who lie and make up things that never happened. Torya says it sounds like there is a story behind this tirade. Mike believes people will take an unreasonable rule and then make things up about people in order to justify their unreasonable rule. Torya says it is called prejudice. Mike says that what people do on their own time is their own business and is not something anyone else should judge. He understands why an employer wouldn't want someone smoking pot at work. It just makes sense. However, if rules are made that seem unreasonable, maybe the rule should be changed? Sometimes the discussions people have are simply confusing. People tend to tell others what they think and believe without knowing the other person. They don't bother to listen. They simply argue for the sake of arguing. Many times people who are on the same side wind up arguing. Mike gives an example of a guy who went off about the Attorney General not working for the President and that he works for the people. Mike points out this argument is wrong, but he asked: "Can the President fire the Attorney General?" The response was yes and so Mike pointed out that the Attorney General does work for the President. Mike says that asking questions like this makes it easier to get to the core of the issue. Make people answer questions first and then make your point using their answers. Mike has concluded that people want to feed their own agenda, so they make up a narrative that makes you sound like the person they've decided you are. He says that the police have used body cams to combat this issue. They begin a short discussion about an off-duty officer in Anaheim who confronted some teens stomping all over his lawn. They both believe there was a lot more than we all saw. The video was edited and didn't show the entire story. Mike points out how people act when someone corrects a misconception they have. They immediately bash the person correcting them. They make assumptions about the person that is untrue. Mike asks Torya the email address for the show and she mocks how he generally announces it. Mike wants Torya's thoughts on the Best of episodes. She says she is a giant fan of throwback episodes. They then discuss the possibility of pulling snippets from the show as it is edited and later creating an episode from that audio. Mike says it would be complicated but might work. The problem would be cataloging the information. This is a must in order to be able to find the audio later.

Ep 138The Best of TNR: Episode 47: Money, Money, Money!
today in this Best of The Nightly Rant episode, we revisit Episode 47: Money, Money, Money!

Ep 137Why can't people disagree any longer?
Mike opens the show by asking what has happened to society that they can't disagree with each other. Torya says it is because people were never taught their opinion is made of pure gold. Mike says you cannot have real discourse when you are unable to discuss things. A difference of opinion many times inspires conversations. He points out that nobody is right 100% of the time. He points out that people are so polarized by every topic and they just don't know how to discuss disagreements. Extremes are never correct. It is a fact. Torya points out that this is why utopian political systems never work. Everything would have to be perfect, but that just doesn't ever happen. Mike says that the dogmatic people are the problem here. Mike explains that he believes you change things by being a leader. You find a topic and work to change it to something closer to your own ideology. You make change slowly and deliberately. Torya points out that they've had a similar topic back to back. Adulting and disagreeing both relate. Mike says consistency is what should rule things. If someone has an idea, as long as they stay consistent, things are fine. He uses the example of Libertarians who don't want income taxes at all. When there is a tax cut they rail against it. Mike says a cut is going towards no taxes, so it is consistent with the idea of no taxes. Small changes take you to the right conclusion. Torya wishes people would stop voting based on the party. She suggests a polling system that asks questions and then tells you who/what you should vote for. You could change the suggestion, but it would link you to the right issues and what your actual stance is. Mike thinks the idea is great, but wonders about how to execute it. Mike relates this to the hiring process he was taught. You determine what you want to be done and how much you will pay for it. You then look for the top 10% of the people willing to accept the job at the rate you can pay. Torya says she wishes people could be informed about candidates in a more efficient manner. Mike suggests that everyone should be allowed to link to a website from the voter guide so that everyone has access to the guide and not just the rich candidates.

Ep 136TNR Makes History!
EListeners duck and take cover! The Nightly Rant made history! For the first time in 136 episodes, the show opened with Torya speaking first! This has not happened because she is always too shy to start things off, but this time she tells us how many times she's been annoyed this day. History has been made! Torya doesn't believe it and argues that she didn't talk first. Of course, she doesn't control the record button, so that would explain why she didn't know she went first. Torya rants about adult-aged people who can't act like adults. She describes a situation where people were uncomfortable and then acted like toddlers. Torya wants to know why there are 2.5 generations of people who can't be adults and Mike answers that it is helicopter parents. He feels that being an adult has almost been bred out of people. Torya says she can make decisions, but that Mike makes fun of her when she can't make a decision. Mike says it is because she is a millennial. Mike points out how certain cultures perpetuate this issue. Torya says there is no excuse for not being an adult. Mike says the helicopter parents need to fix the problems. Mike says this can be done by asking questions that guide them to solutions rather than just telling them what to do. Mike has a theory. He says these helicopter parents are afraid that if their children don't perform well, they will look bad and that's why the interject and do things for their kids. This leads to a discussion about how Mike and Torya were taught while growing up. They both relate their own experiences and how they affected them.

Ep 135No More Being Rude
EOdie had a huge day! He went to an adoption event in Pasadena, California. He spent all day at the event. He was taken by one of the ladies from the rescue because Mike and Torya had to attend Mitchell's soccer game. Torya says Odie was excited that she came back for him. Mike discusses the fact that dogs DO remember things unlike what many people say. Torya says that if they went somewhere with Odie and his former owner was there, he would be extremely excited. Mike points out that Yogi clearly noticed Odie was not here when they returned after the first game. Yogi has clearly accepted Odie. Torya explains that she is usually a passive person, but she is done with letting people be rude to her. Mike says he is proud of Torya for reaching this point. Mike reminds Torya that it is great to stand up to people, he wants to see her maintain her dignity in any situation. He says that people who just go off on others tend to look like a lunatic. Mike points out that he is blunt. Some people point to that statement and say it is an excuse to be rude. Mike owns being blunt. He also works hard to make sure he doesn't come off like the jerk. Torya points out that Mike definitely shows restraint. She says that if someone gets in another person's face, they do so in order for you to take the first punch. If they truly wanted a fight they would start the fight themselves. The fact they don't shows they don't really want the fight. Mike points out that people say things they don't mean all the time. It is something that has to be handled with dignity. Apparently, Mike and Torya had a situation. Mike was joking with someone and another person jumped in and caused conflict. Two other people hurled personal insults. Mike's response was to watch and listen and handle his own business. He was confronted by a woman who continually asked if Mike was going to hit her. Mike had no clue where that craziness came from. This person's husband had to jump in and make the situation even worse. It doesn't surprise Mike because this particular person has caused so much drama in the past.
