The Speculation Tax: Caught In The Crossfire, Cheryl's Story.
Cheryl Martin is a Canadian citizen (from Victoria) currently residing in the US. On February 26th, 2018 she purchased a resort cottage in Parksville, BC to use when she travels home to visit family twice a year. The cottage she purchased is in a strata complex and the City of Parksville Zoning bylaw limits the stay to 180 days, concurrent or non-consecutive, within one calendar year. They plan to rent the cottage out when we are not in town. She says when they do visit, for months at a time, they contribute to the economy by renting cars, buying groceries, eating at restaurants and other activities and so would people who rent the cottage.
