Tom Cruise and His Identity Based Habits

Love him or hate him or just think he’s weird, Tom Cruise is an icon. He is in a league of actor all his own. Have you ever noticed all Tom Cruise movies have his name at the top of the poster? That’s by design. Part of the movie’s identity is that it’s a “Tom Cruise” movie. This didn’t happen by accident. It was deliberate. Tom Cruise decided early on he would make movies and he would make them well. Therefore, he took on the identity of a student and did what students do-he learned. He wanted to be wildly successful. So he did what wildly successful people do-he worked hard..really hard. We all have a choice. We can haphazardly let our habits develop our identity or we can consciously decide the identity we want to assume and create habits that support that identity. ——————————————————— Follow me on Social Media Intagram Twitter YouTube FaceBook LinkedIn ———————————————————– Grab a Copy of My Books “The Stone Chiseler” “Push Play: Taking Your Life Off Pause” ——————————————————– Want to Improve always in ALL ways?  Please checkout The Vitruvian Lab, my personal training and coaching site for both live and on-line training for: Health and Longevity Mindset Optimization Behavioral Science Business Mentoring ——————————————————– Thank you for listening to The Jason Wright Show. Die With Zero

“Die with Zero” by Bill Perkins is a thought-provoking book that challenges traditional ideas about retirement and encourages readers to make the most of their lives by prioritizing experiences over accumulation of wealth. Perkins advocates for a mindset shift from deferring enjoyment and experiences until old age towards embracing the concept of “living life to the fullest” in the present. The book highlights the fact that life is unpredictable and that delaying experiences until retirement may not always be feasible. Perkins argues that it’s essential to strike a balance between enjoying the present and saving for the future. He believes that waiting until old age to pursue dreams and passions can lead to missed opportunities, regrets, and a diminished ability to fully appreciate and engage in those experiences. Perkins encourages readers to identify their priorities and create a “bucket list” of experiences they want to have throughout their lives. By evaluating these experiences in terms of their potential enjoyment and impact, individuals can allocate their time and resources accordingly. The author emphasizes the importance of aligning spending with personal values and passions, aiming to maximize fulfillment and happiness throughout life’s journey. The book challenges the conventional notion that retirement should be the sole focus of financial planning. Instead, Perkins proposes a concept of “mini-retirements” or “sabbaticals,” where individuals take intentional breaks throughout their lives to pursue meaningful experiences. These breaks can be shorter, focused periods where individuals engage in activities that bring them joy and fulfillment, without waiting until the traditional retirement age. Perkins also encourages readers to consider the concept of “Lifestyle Calculus,” which involves assessing the potential return on investment (ROI) of different experiences. By evaluating the long-term value and enjoyment derived from an experience, individuals can make more informed decisions about how and when to allocate their resources. Ultimately, “Die with Zero” encourages readers to take advantage of their financial resources and time while they are younger and healthier, enabling them to create a life filled with meaningful experiences, personal growth, and fulfillment. It urges individuals to reflect on what truly matters to them and to take proactive steps to make those experiences a reality, rather than deferring them indefinitely. By embracing this philosophy, individuals can lead more purposeful and rewarding lives.

Philosophy Is Empty If It's Not Reflected In Your Identity

We all are armchair philosophers on occasion. Many of us admire certain philosophies as well as their founders. However, how many of us actually live lives reflective of those philosophies? That’s the key. Title: Becoming Invaluable: The Power of Being the Go-To Person

In our rapidly changing world, where information and options are abundant, it can be challenging to stand out and remain relevant. However, there is an exceptional position one can attain—the position of being so valuable that others won’t go elsewhere for advice or influence. This coveted status brings numerous benefits, including customer loyalty and personal significance. In this blog post, we will explore the statistics on maintaining customers versus acquiring new ones and delve into the profound impact we have as the one and only person in someone’s life, be it as a father, mother, or employer. The Importance of Customer Retention:According to numerous studies, maintaining existing customers is significantly more cost-effective than acquiring new ones. It has been found that acquiring a new customer can cost up to five times more than retaining an existing one. Additionally, increasing customer retention rates by as little as 5% can boost profits by 25% to 95%. These figures underscore the value of building long-term relationships and becoming the go-to person for advice and influence. Being the One and Only:In each person’s life, there are roles that cannot be replicated or replaced. As a father, mother, employer, or even a close friend, we hold a unique position that provides us with the opportunity to shape and influence others in profound ways. When someone considers us as the one and only person to seek guidance, support, or inspiration, it signifies the depth of trust they have in us. Father/Mother:As parents, we have an immense responsibility to our children. We are their role models, mentors, and sources of unwavering love. Research shows that children who have involved and supportive parents are more likely to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. The impact we have as parents is immeasurable, and by being there for our children, we become irreplaceable influences in their lives. Employer:In the workplace, as an employer or supervisor, we possess the ability to create an environment that nurtures and motivates our employees. When we genuinely care about their professional growth, well-being, and success, we become indispensable. Studies consistently demonstrate that employees who feel valued and supported by their superiors show higher levels of engagement, productivity, and loyalty. By being the go-to person for guidance and mentorship, we establish ourselves as a source of inspiration and stability in their career journey. Trusted Advisor:Beyond familial and professional relationships, there are countless other areas where we can become the go-to person for advice and influence. It could be as a mentor, coach, or a friend with whom someone feels comfortable sharing their vulnerabilities and seeking guidance. By providing consistent support, empathy, and wisdom, we become an invaluable asset in their lives, making it unlikely for them to seek advice or influence elsewhere. Becoming the one and only person in someone’s life is a testament to the value we bring and the impact we have on others. Whether it’s as a parent, employer, mentor, or trusted advisor, the trust and loyalty we inspire can be immeasurable. Not only does being the go-to person foster long-term relationships and customer retention, but it also allows us to make a profound difference in the lives of those we touch. So, let’s strive to become the invaluable individuals that others won’t go elsewhere for advice or influence, and in doing so, let us create a lasting impact on the people around us. "The Calorie Control Chronicles: Harnessing the Power of Calorie Restriction for Health and Body Transformation"

Calorie restriction, when done in a controlled and balanced manner, has shown a powerful impact on metabolic health. Research has demonstrated that reducing caloric intake can lead to improvements in various markers of metabolic health, such as insulin sensitivity, blood pressure, lipid profile, and inflammation. By consuming fewer calories, the body is prompted to utilize stored energy reserves, leading to weight loss and a reduction in excess adipose tissue. This reduction in body fat, particularly visceral fat surrounding vital organs, can significantly lower the risk of chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic syndrome. Additionally, calorie restriction has been linked to enhanced mitochondrial function, increased autophagy (cellular cleansing), and improved insulin signaling, all of which contribute to the overall optimization of metabolic health. While it is essential to approach calorie restriction with care and under professional guidance, the potential benefits it holds for metabolic health are undeniably compelling. My Conversation with Author of "Angels Against The Sun" James M. Fenelon

So what is it that makes the “Greatest Generation” so great? Well, I’m not sure I can tell you. However, James Fenelon’s new book “Angels Against The Sun” does an amazing job of illustrating just how great these men were during their time of war. I had so much fun visiting with James about his book that recalls the heroic story of the 11th Airborne Division and their role in the Pacific campaign of WWII.  Grunt’s-Eye View of Pacific WarfareThe Pacific theater of World War II pitted American fighting men against two merciless enemies: the relentless Japanese army and the combined forces of monsoons, swamps, mud, privation, and disease.General Joseph Swing’s rowdy paratroopers of the 11th Airborne Division— nicknamed the “Angels”—fought in some of the war’s most dramatic campaigns, from bloody skirmishes in Leyte’s unforgiving rainforests to the ferocious battles on Luzon, including the hellish urban combat of Manila. The Angels were trained as elite shock troops, but high American casualties often forced them into action as ground-pounding infantrymen. Surviving on airdropped supplies and reinforcements, the Angels fought their way across nearly impassable terrain, emerging as one of the most lethal units in the Pacific War. Their final task was the occupation of Japan, where they were the first American boots on the ground.Angels Against the Sun is an unforgettable account of the liberation of the Philippines. In the tradition of Band of Brothers, historian and former paratrooper James M. Fenelon offers a grunt’s-eye view of the war. This is a soldier’s history at its best. JAMES M FENELON is a paratrooper turned historian. He served in the U.S. Army for more than a decade and is a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Airborne, Jumpmaster, and Pathfinder schools. His previous book, Four Hours of Fury: The Untold Story of World War II’s Largest Airborne Invasion and the Final Push into Nazi Germany, was widely praised; the Wall Street Journal called it “inspired” and the Army Times called it “a riveting account.” He has written for World War II magazine, Military History, and other outlets, and served as a technical advisor for World War II documentaries. An alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin, Fenelon and his wife live in the Texas Hill Country. Just Do This One Thing! It's Easy, Beneficial and EVERYONE Can Do It. But Don't Get Creepy

While smiling can improve mood and release feel-good chemicals like endorphins, it’s importantto note that depression is a serious mental health condition that requires treatment from aqualified mental health professional. While smiling alone is unlikely to cure depression, it can bea helpful part of an overall treatment plan that may include therapy, medication, and lifestylechanges. Some research suggests that smiling or laughing regularly can have a positive impact on moodand reduce symptoms of depression. Smiling and laughter can help reduce stress and anxiety, boost the immune system, and release endorphins that can improve mood. However, it’simportant to emphasize that these benefits are likely to be modest and should not be reliedupon as a standalone treatment for depression. If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms of depression, it’s important to seek thesupport of a mental health professional who can provide a comprehensive assessment anddevelop an individualized treatment plan. Here are 5 advantages of smiling: Reduced stress: Smiling releases endorphins which can reduce stress and help you feelmore relaxed. Improved mood: Smiling can improve your mood by triggering the release of dopamineand serotonin, which are neurotransmitters that make you feel happy and content. Strengthened immune system: Smiling and laughter can boost the immune system byincreasing the production of white blood cells and antibodies that fight off infections andillnesses. Increased attractiveness: People are generally more attracted to those who smilefrequently, as it conveys warmth and approachability. Boosted creativity: Smiling has been shown to increase creative thinking and problemsolving abilities, possibly due to the release of endorphins and a more relaxed state ofmind. Procrastination Cure-Understanding the Pain Pleasure Paradox

The pain-pleasure paradox is a concept that explains why people often choose short-term pleasure over long-term gain, even when they know that the latter will ultimately bring them more happiness. Procrastination, or the act of putting off important tasks in favor of more immediately satisfying activities, is a prime example of this paradox. Procrastination can be seen as a way to avoid the pain of doing something that may be difficult, boring or unpleasant. However, it is also a way to seek pleasure in the form of instant gratification. By putting off tasks, we get to enjoy the immediate satisfaction of doing something more pleasurable, like watching TV or browsing social media. This gives us a quick hit of dopamine, the neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward, but ultimately harms our long-term goals. Interestingly, the longer we procrastinate, the more painful the task becomes in our minds. We build up anxiety and stress around the task, making it seem even more daunting than it really is. The result is that we feel even more motivated to avoid the pain, and seek out more immediate pleasure instead. Breaking the cycle of procrastination requires recognizing the pain-pleasure paradox for what it is and consciously choosing to prioritize our long-term goals over short-term rewards. This may involve setting specific, achievable goals for ourselves, breaking tasks into smaller steps, or finding ways to make the task more enjoyable. Ultimately, it comes down to recognizing that while procrastination may bring temporary pleasure, it ultimately leads to greater pain in the form of missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential.

Overcoming False Evidence Appearing Real F.E.A.R

Here are 5 ways to overcome fear:: Embrace the Fear: Embracing fear means acknowledging it and understanding that it is a natural part of growth and exploration. Instead of resisting or avoiding it, accept your fear and use it as fuel to drive your actions. Cultivate Mindfulness: Mindfulness is the art of being present in the moment, without being judgmental or reactive. Developing a regular mindfulness practice can help you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings, and more easily manage fear when it arises. Visualize Success: Visualization is a powerful tool that can help you overcome fear by creating a positive mental image of your desired outcome. By visualizing success, you can reduce the impact of fear and increase your confidence to take action. Take Incremental Action: Taking small, incremental steps is a proven method for overcoming fear. By breaking your goals down into manageable tasks, you can gradually build confidence and momentum, and overcome fear in the process. Reframe Failure: Failure is a natural part of the learning process and can help you grow and develop. By reframing failure as an opportunity to learn and improve, you can reduce the impact of fear and take bold, decisive action towards your goals. Overall, remember that fear is a natural emotion that everyone experiences. By embracing it, being mindful, visualizing success, taking incremental action and reframing failure, you can overcome fear and achieve your goals. Who is Michael Gervais? Navigating the world of business, entrepreneurship, and self-development can be daunting. But in today’s rapidly changing economic landscape, it is essential to understand the mechanics and principles guiding success. Tim Ferriss is a prime example of an individual who rejected traditional wisdom and instead pursued his passions with deliberate intentionality – making him one of the foremost authorities on self-improvement strategies for young professionals around the world. In this post I’ll look at why he made an unconventional decision before embarking on his own journey into entrepreneurship – deciding to forego Stanford Business School in favor of crafting experiences that offered dividends uncompromised by risk or loss. Breaking conventional norms and charting your own course takes an immense amount of courage. Tim Ferriss, the author of the highly popular self-help book “The 4-Hour Work Week,” did just that when he decided to forgo attending one of the most prestigious business schools in the world, Stanford Business School, to start his own business. It was a decision that would change the course of his life and make him an icon in the entrepreneurship world. Ferriss’ story is a testament to the power of taking risks and trusting your instincts, even when it goes against established norms. His pioneering spirit has since inspired countless others to follow in his footsteps and break free from the shackles of conformity to pursue their dreams. The Power of Self-Craftsmanship: How Personal Growth Leads to a Better You-Focus On What's Unseen As Much As What Is Seen

Steve Jobs, the former CEO of Apple, learned about craftsmanship from his father, Paul Jobs. Paul was a skilled mechanic and carpenter who taught his son the importance of taking pride in one’s work and striving for excellence. Growing up, Steve spent time working alongside his father on projects around the house, developing a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and attention to detail. This early exposure to the value of craft and the importance of quality work influenced Steve’s approach to design and his emphasis on excellence throughout his career. It was the legacy of his father’s teachings that helped shape Steve’s approach to creative problem solving and helped him become one of the most successful and innovative leaders of our time. Rylan and Abby Bust Their Dad's Chops On Some Of His Questionable Parenting Choices

Parenting is hard. We all have good days and bad days. We make some good decisions and bad decisions. It’s important to take time out of our busy day and reflect on what worked, what didn’t work and why. That’s why I love episodes like this one – it gives me the space and support to talk through my parenting struggles with others who know exactly what I’ve been through with a chuckle. Well, now they reveal they had some ‘issues’ with my choices in movies and songs I allowed them to consume vs. those I did not. This is a fun episode with my two young adult daughters. I love them dearly. I’m so enjoying watching them grow into the adults they are and having moments like this to laugh about the journey shared by parents and children. I hope you find this episode fun and maybe even give yourself some grace for some of the decisions you’ve made as a parent. Thanks girls. I love you so much. Erectile Dysfunction, Better Sex And Other Matters of The Penis With Dr. R. Clay Williams, DO

No one wants to talk about it, but it impacts many men. Erectile Dysfunction: Causes, Treatment, and Prevention Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common condition that affects millions of men worldwide. It is defined as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. ED can be caused by a variety of factors, both physical and psychological. While ED can be a sensitive topic for many men, it is important to understand the causes and treatment options. Causes of Erectile Dysfunction ED can be caused by physical or psychological factors. Physical factors can include: Vascular disease: conditions that affect blood flow to the penis, such as atherosclerosis or high blood pressure. Neurological disorders: spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease can all lead to ED. Hormonal imbalances: low testosterone levels can contribute to ED. Medications: certain medications, such as antidepressants and blood pressure medications, can cause ED. Lifestyle factors: smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and drug use can all contribute to ED. Psychological factors can include: Anxiety and depression Relationship problems Stress Treatment and Prevention of Erectile Dysfunction The treatment for ED will depend on the underlying cause. In some cases, treating an underlying condition such as high blood pressure or diabetes can improve ED. In cases where psychological factors are the cause, counseling or therapy may be recommended. For many men, medications such as Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra can effectively treat ED. These medications work by increasing blood flow to the penis, making it easier to achieve and maintain an erection. In addition to medication, lifestyle changes can also help prevent ED. Quitting smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, and regular exercise can all improve blood flow and overall health. Eating a healthy diet can also help reduce the risk of ED. Summing Up Although ED can be a sensitive topic for many men, it is important to seek medical attention if it persists. ED can be caused by a variety of factors, both physical and psychological, and treatment options are available. By understanding the causes and treatment options, men can take steps to prevent or alleviate the symptoms of ED and improve their overall sexual health. Who Is Dr. R. Clay Williams? R. Hyperbolic Discounting: Don't Discount Your Future!-Building Your Ideal Future One Piece At a Time

We may gravitate towards short-term rewards, but this tendency (known as hyperbolic discounting) can adversely influence our ability to achieve long-term goals. Changing our mindset and viewing our future selves as part of our current self can help us to prioritize those long-term objectives. To make progress, we must actively choose the harder options that will bring about greater rewards in time. Small changes can make a big difference: saving money or taking a walk each day are simple steps that ultimately add up to a huge impact. S4 Ep 316Second Marriage-How to Hedge For Success!

Marriage is tough. Some say second marriages are even tougher. The statistics seem to bear this out? Second marriages are much more likely to end in divorce than first marriages. According to a report from the National Center for Health Statistics, 60% of second marriages end in divorce within 10 years compared to 40% of first marriages. Additionally, statistics show that one-third of all third marriages also end in divorce. According to Gary Chapman, the key to making second marriages work is open and honest communication between both partners. He emphasizes the importance of couples taking the time to talk about their feelings, expectations, and experiences from their previous relationships in order for them to understand each other better. Additionally, he suggests that couples also take the time to learn about each other’s love languages as this can help facilitate better communication and understanding between them. I hope you find this episode encouraging no matter where you are in the journey of marriage. Please checkout The Vitruvian Lab, my personal training and coaching site for both live and on-line training for: Health and Longevity Mindset Optimization Behavioral Science Business Mentoring ——————————————————–

S4 Ep 315Your Personal Hero's Journey-What Role Will YOU Play In The Story of Your Life?

You Write The Script.. Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky story is one for the books. In 1975, the future action star wrote a screenplay about an underdog boxer who gets a chance to fight the world champion and make it big against all odds. Stallone was initially offered $360,000 by producer Irwin Winkler for his script but he refused unless he was allowed to play the lead role himself. In a defiant move that could have easily gone wrong, Stallone stuck to his guns and Winkler eventually capitulated, casting him as boxer Rocky Balboa in the 1976 movie classic. The gamble paid off in spades – Rocky would go on to make more than $225 million worldwide and earn Stallone an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. It also cemented his place in Hollywood history and spawned five successful sequels along with generations of die-hard fans who know how the heartwarming story begins. Yes, this is a classic example of ‘Hollywood meets determination’ and proves just what someone can do when they refuse to give up on their dreams! Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you’re working, it still isn’t enough to reach your goals? It can be discouraging at times, but there is hope! Looking back on some of the most inspirational stories in literature and cinema provides tangible hope while also reminding us that any challenge can be faced if we push through the tough moments. One of these stories is Rocky (1976), which follows protagonist Rocky Balboa’s heroic journey from a small-time boxer to an inspiring champion. Through his struggles with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, such as poverty and physical injury, he proves that dedication and personal drive will always light the path towards success. Rocky’s story speaks volumes about overcoming different types of adversity; it serves as a great reminder to anyone looking for motivation in their own journey towards reaching their dreams. The Call to Adventure & Refusal of the Call – Rocky’s struggles in life and his initial refusal to take up the challenge Life can be tough and full of challenges, and Rocky knows this all too well. He’s faced his fair share of struggles, but when the call to adventure comes knocking, it’s easy to understand why he initially refused. Sometimes, the unknown can be daunting and the journey ahead may seem impossible. But it’s important to remember that growth only comes when we step outside our comfort zones and take on those challenges head-on. Rocky embodies this spirit of determination and resilience, inspiring us to rise up to the call of adventure and never let fear hold us back. After all, the greatest accomplishments often come from the greatest hurdles we have to overcome. Crossing the Threshold – Rocky’s journey from being an underdog to becoming a real contender Rocky’s journey from underdog to contender is a truly inspirational story that reminds us of the power of perseverance and hard work. Despite facing countless obstacles and setbacks, Rocky never gave up on his dreams of becoming a champion. He trained tirelessly, pushing himself to the limit both physically and mentally, and even when it seemed like the odds were against him, he never lost faith in himself. In the end, his hard work paid off, and he emerged as a true contender, a champion in his own right. Rocky’s journey is a testament to the fact that anyone can achieve greatness if they are willing to put in the effort and never give up on their dreams. It is a story that inspires us all to believe in ourselves, to defy the odds, and to always strive for greatness. Tests, Allies, and Enemies – Rocky’s relationships with people around him and how they help him on his journey Throughout Rocky’s journey, he has encountered various individuals who have played significant roles in his life. Some have been friends, while others have been foes. But regardless of whether they stood by him or against him, each person has contributed in some way to his growth and development. Rocky’s allies have been a source of inspiration and support, providing him with guidance and encouragement when he needed it most. And while his enemies have made his journey more challenging, they have also taught him valuable lessons about perseverance, determination, and resilience. With each test he faces and each person he encounters, Rocky is able to grow stronger and closer to achieving his goals. His relationships with those around him serve as a reminder that no one can achieve success alone, and that the people we surround ourselves with can help us become the best versions of ourselves. The Road of Trials – Rocky’s physical, emotional, and mental challenges as he pursues his goal Rocky’s journey toward success was filled with numerous trials that tested his physical, emotional, and mental abilities. S4 Ep 309The AI Episode With Mind Blowing Assistance From Seth Godin-How To Get Ready For The Machines

It’s no longer a question of whether or not the machines are coming. They are here. AI is advancing at a breakneck pace. So what do we do to prepare? I say we can only do one thing-improve. Now more than ever we need to get smarter, healthier, wiser and more prepared for this changing world. This is not to instill fear but offer an anecdote for the anxiety being caused by all the changes we are seeing in our world. I was recently listening to Seth Godin’s Akimbo podcast in which he was discussing AI. Seth gave a great explanation of exactly what AI is and what is coming and what might be coming. He also gave a list of considerations we must make with the oncoming of more work and thinking being done by AI. Finally, there was an element of his podcast that was a bit mind blowing. I decided to share it with you, the JWS audience. So what exactly is AI? AI is the most fascinating and exciting field of study that has ever existed. It is the study of creating intelligent machines that can perform human-like tasks such as learning, reasoning, and problem-solving. AI is changing the world in extraordinary ways, from self-driving cars and facial recognition to personalized healthcare and virtual assistants like Jasper. AI is not just a technology, it’s the art of creating intelligence itself. It’s a field that requires creativity, intuition, and logic all at once. AI has the potential to transform the world we live in and reshape the future of our society. It’s a thrilling time to be alive, as we’re witnessing some of the most remarkable technological advancements in history, all thanks to AI. S4 Ep 307The Man Who Put The Cuffs One of The 16th St. Bomber 27 Years After The Fact-Stewart Fillmore-29 Year FBI Veteran Shares Details of Some of the Biggest Criminals in History!

Following retirement from the FBI as a 29-year “street Agent,” I wrote and published a book titled Tenaha: Corruption and Cover-Up in Small Town Texas. The book gives an in-depth look at my experiences in the FBI and takes the reader through an actual investigation. In July 2021, I was featured on Expedition Unknown on the Discovery Channel in an episode titled “Dillinger’s Lost Loot” which highlighted a 1934 Shell Oil company road map I found at the John Dillinger farm in Mooresville, Indiana. “On September 15, 1963, the congregation of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama greeted each other before the start of Sunday service. In the basement of the church, five young girls, two of them sisters, gathered in the ladies room in their best dresses, happily chatting about the first days of the new school year. It was Youth Day and excitement filled the air, they were going to take part in the Sunday adult service.Just before 11 o’clock, instead of rising to begin prayers the congregation was knocked to the ground. As a bomb exploded under the steps of the church, they sought safety under the pews and shielded each other from falling debris. In the basement, four little girls were killed—14-year-olds Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and 11-year-old Cynthia Wesley. Addie’s sister Sarah survived, but lost her right eye.In the moments after the explosion, questions hung in the air—’Where is my loved one?’ ‘Are they ok?’ ‘How much longer can this violence last?’ They did not ask if this was an accident, they knew that this was a bomb that had exploded as it had dozens of times before in “Bombingham.” 16th Street Baptist Church interior after the bombingBirmingham Public Library This was one of the most horrific incidents in American history. 27 years after the fact a lead fell on Special Agent Stewart Fillmore’s desk. S32 Ep 306Vitruvian Notes: Thy "Dreamdom Come" Jesus and Goal Setting

It was 1996. The clock ticked down on the last high school football game I would ever play. We lost in the second round of the Texas AAAA playoffs. It didn’t matter that the season was over and we’d lost. Win or lose, a tradition remained no matter what the score reflected. Win or lose, to God be the glory. My high school football coach James Cameron, who stood about 6 ‘4 “, would head to the center of the field and hold his hand up and say, “Everybody up.” Then we’d all gather, take a knee, bow our heads and recite the Lord’s prayer. As a southern boy growing up in the buckle of the Bible belt I knew the Lord’s prayer before I knew how to do multiplication. It was tattooed to my memory like my ABC’s or ‘Now I lay me down to sleep.” The Lord’s prayer is from one of Jesus’ sermons in which he taught his disciples how to pray. There is one line in which Jesus says, “Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” What does Jesus mean by this? Well, I want to confess I’m no Biblical scholar nor am I a man of the cloth. I’m just one of those ole good for nothing Christians. My old southern Baptist brethren will get that joke. To the rest of you, my apologies. I do however know what Jesus is teaching in this passage. He’s saying to live and act here on earth today as though we were already in the kingdom of heaven. Bring the actions and characteristics of Heaven to this earth. What if we decided to bring our dreams to the present in the same way by taking action today? For example, when I think of my ideal future, I imagine getting up, doing some reading and writing, going for a long walk and then researching human performance so I can later teach it to others and making enough money to support my lifestyle. I also want to share messages to a broad audience through a podcast that will keep me on my game, help me build an audience for the courses I want to teach and the books I want to write. So how do I make this happen? Well, currently I get up and do some reading and writing. I go for a long walk then I do some research on human performance. I take that research and create courses for my Vitruvian Lab app. I also have a podcast called the Jason Wright Show where the motto is “improve always in ALL ways.”  Am I making enough money doing these things to fund my lifestyle? I am not. Is this a reason to not do them? It certainly is not. Will it cause me to be better prepared for that day when it comes? You bet.  Are we living in Heaven? No we are not. That’s for the future. So is the day I’m able to fully monetize my ideal day. That’s for the future. Just because something currently exists in the future doesn’t mean I can’t start behaving the way I plan to when that future trades places with today’s present. Many people will tell you to envision your future. Think about it in order to try to manifest it. I think this is only a tiny piece of the puzzle. Action is what leads to reality. When we start acting out our future, that ideal future slowly gets pulled closer and closer into the present. The best part is if we do this long enough, the future will start pulling us toward it.  There’s some who take an all or nothing approach. They refuse to take even the smallest action toward their future. They think they will write their novel when they retire. John Grisham was an attorney when he was writing his first chapters.  They think they have to have enough money to buy the special equipment their dream entails. Adam Yout, one of the original Beastie Boys made his first synthesizer with old recording parts before he’d ever sold an album.   Just because an activity you enjoy is not paying the bills today doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it with the hope and belief it one day might. On days I have a Vitruvian Letter to write and just don’t want to do it the future pulls me to the keyboard. I believe there will be a day when the deadline is real and my income is affected by taking the time to write. Therefore, I treat it like a deadline today.  What is your ideal future? If you don’t start to live it today then you’re going to be living for a future designed by someone else. Instead today decide “thy Dreamdom come” in the present as it is in your ideal future.

S1 Ep 305Control Your Body Fat, Age Slower and Live Longer-Joel Greene Is Back-We Discuss How The Fitness Industry Has It Wrong, Eating For Longevity and More

Joel Greene is the author of ‘The Immunity Code’ and has become a friend. He very well may be one of the most respected and knowledgeable health and wellness professionals around. One of my friends who is an integrated health specialist and M.D. has referred to Joel as a “mad scientist.” Joel understands the science of the body. He is also a realist. He understands a lot of people simply don’t have the time to do fitness 12 hours per day. Most people have lives to live. This is why he is adamant about cutting through the nonsense of much of the fitness industry being sold. So often people get caught up on Instagram influencers and others who literally workout and eat right all day every day and then sell you a program on how to look like them…you…an accountant! This doesn’t work. Joel has created straight forward protocols that work in the real world. We also discuss Joel’s ‘Young Body’ supplements. I’m so happy to have Joel back on. He’s someone I consider a friend and mentor. Joel Greene The Jason Wright Show Here’s a little more about Joel: Having previously built 2 previous multi-million dollar startups in the tech space Joel went on to author the very first article on the gut biome to the health and fitness community in 2007. S4 Ep 304Wright On: San Francisco Reparations-Does Money Always Fix Problems or Can It Make Them Worse?

Will the proposed reparations plan in San Francisco really right this wrong or do more harm? “Giving to those in need what they could be gaining from their own initiative may well be the kindest way to destroy people. We mean well, our motives are good, but we have neglected to conduct care-full due diligence to determine emotional, economic, and cultural outcomes on the receiving end of our charity. Why do we miss this crucial aspect in evaluating our charitable work? Because, as compassionate people, we have been evaluating our charity by the rewards we receive through service, rather than the benefits received by the served. We have failed to adequately calculate the effects of our service on the lives of those reduced to objects of our pity and patronage.”― Robert D. Lupton, Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help San Francisco’s proposed reparations plan, which would give $5 million to each eligible Black person, will be publicly discussed for the first time at the city’s Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday afternoon. Details: To be eligible for reparations, a person would need to be at least 18 years old and have identified as Black or African American on public documents for at least 10 years. They may also need to prove they were born in San Francisco between 1940 and 1996 and lived in the city for at least 13 years, and were displaced, or a descendant of someone displaced, from the city by urban renewal. State of play: The city is trying to make amends for previous actions that ultimately led to a lack of opportunities and displacement of a portion of the city’s Black population. San Francisco’s urban renewal of the 1960s and ’70s, for example, decimated the Black population in San Francisco’s Fillmore District, an area once known as the Harlem of the West due to its bustling jazz scene. The city’s redevelopment of the Fillmore shuttered 883 businesses, displaced 4,729 households and damaged the lives of nearly 20,000 people, according to the reparations committee. Black people made up 13.4% of the city’s population in 1970, according to U.S. Census data. That has dropped to just 5.7%, according to 2021 Census population estimates. Catch up quick: San Francisco Supervisor Shamann Walton in 2020 wrote the since unanimously approved legislation to establish the African American Reparations Advisory Committee. The committee released a draft plan in December that recommended a number of reparations, including a one-time $5 million payment to eligible Black individuals and payroll and property tax exemptions for Black business owners. It also recommended the creation of a mandatory curriculum that centers Black history and culture in the school district and more. Between the lines: To determine the $5 million figure, the committee looked at factors like income disparity, the wealth gap and “specific incidents where Black folks in San Francisco were legislated out of opportunity,” Tinisch Hollins, the committee’s vice chair, told Axios. “There’s no way to quantify the harm done to Black Americans,” she said, but added the amount the committee is proposing “is not unreasonable.” If approved, it’s unclear where the money would come from, but some supervisors have suggested decreasing the police budget or using revenue from the Cannabis Business Tax to fund reparations, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. What they’re saying: “We know the negative impacts of slavery, what it’s done to economic equality, what it’s done to the education [and] overcriminalization for Black people across the country, but also the negative impacts of slavery for folks right here in San Francisco,” Walton told Axios. The other side: Since the plan’s release, city Supervisor Joel Engardio has said the $5 million payment “may not be feasible under current budget constraints.” The city, for example, has a projected budget deficit of $728 million from July through June 2025. Meanwhile, San Francisco Republican Party chairman John Dennis told Axios the process for determining the reparations “was a very unserious thing,” arguing a better approach would be for Black people to pursue litigation against the city. What’s next: The reparations committee will continue to meet monthly before submitting its final proposal in June. From there, the Board of Supervisors will decide whether to accept, reject or modify the plan. *Credit Axios

S4 Ep 302Vitruvian Notes-Finding Joy "The Happy Han Man"

It was 2003 and I was dying. No. I mean it. I was risking death. I had been hiking through the foothills of the Himalayas on my first ever mission trip. Over the course of three days I had weaved through leech infested goat trails, dehydrated and lost 15 lbs. The two guys I was hiking with were ahead of me. The three of us were making our way to a small hillside farm. My vision was blurry. My mind was hazy. My tongue was sticky and fat. “One more step..one more step..don’t look over the edge..one more step.” This is what I said to myself for hours. Then I would slide down the side of the mountain trying desperately not to collapse under the weight of the 50 lb pack I was carrying. This was incredibly difficult given the falling warm rain and the slick mud that guided my steps. We made it to the little farm. It was a one room shack with a covered porch. One small pen was outside with a pig in it. I threw up in the pig pen, shed my pack and fell backwards. Lying on the cool dirt floor of the back porch was bliss. My friends and I were greeted by a Chinese National wearing only a pair of pants that had been cut into culottes. Well, that and a big smile. Peeking out of one of my friend’s pockets was a picture. The man immediately became animated and started pointing at the picture. It was a picture of him. We had found the ‘Happy Han Man.’ This is how the missionaries that had gone before us described him. This was his little farm. He was known to help those who passed by. They had been here before and took the picture and gave it to us to look for him should we find ourselves in need of assistance. The entire time we were with him he never lost that wide smile. This was a man not just happy but full of joy. He had little to no material belongings. He had no running water. He had no electricity, but he exuded joy. How could this be? I think it’s because joy is deeper than anything material gifts can provide us. Joy is something that begins inside and is shown outwardly. I think when one finds joy they have found one of life’s greatest treasures for sure. Joy is a unique emotion, different from happiness. It can be described as an intense feeling of pleasure or satisfaction that surpasses the level of joy experienced by temporary happiness. As C.S Lewis famously said, “Joy is the serious business of Heaven”- meaning it stands for something much deeper and more meaningful than mere contentment or satisfaction. Joy is something that goes beyond the fleeting happiness we feel when we achieve something or experience an exciting moment.  Joy is more important than temporary happiness because it provides a sense of purpose and connection to our innermost selves. It helps us recognize our true power and potential, which can lead to profound personal growth. Joy also helps us discover meaning in life, encourages us to pursue bigger goals, and motivates us to take necessary steps in order to achieve them.  Joy is something that we can cultivate within ourselves through daily practices such as meditation, journaling, creative activities and more. By focusing on joy as a core emotion rather than temporary happiness, we can truly unlock our potential for growth and fulfillment. Scientific studies have also explored the power of joy and its potential to increase overall well-being. Studies suggest that joy can improve physical health, strengthen relationships, increase productivity at work and even help people bounce back from adversity more easily.  Joy has been found to be associated with better mental health outcomes such as fewer symptoms of depression and improved resilience. Joy can even contribute to better physical health, with findings indicating that it can improve immune system functioning and reduce stress levels. Ultimately, joy is an emotion we should work to cultivate in our lives. Its power goes beyond the temporary happiness experienced when something exciting happens or you achieve a goal; instead, it is a lasting feeling of connectedness, purpose and growth. Joy can lead to improved mental and physical health, greater personal resilience and increased productivity. As Viktor Frankl said, “Live life in the full light of joy” – Joy should be a primary focus when striving for true fulfillment. I’m glad to have met the ‘Happy Han Man.’ To most of the world he has nothing. To me he has the greatest treasure of all-joy. S4 Ep 297JWS Special-"The Endangered Man" Can The Traditional Man Survive? Are Men at Risk of Being Extinct?

The Endangered Man It’s becoming increasingly clear that the modern man is in trouble. We are facing a crisis of masculinity, with boys and men struggling to find their place in a world that is rapidly changing. From mental health issues to dwindling educational attainment, it’s clear that something is not working for us. But what can be done to save the endangered man? In this episode and the series to follow, we’ll explore some of the ways we can help boys and men thrive in today’s world. It won’t be easy, but it’s essential if we want to create a better future for everyone. So let’s get started! The man is an endangered species because of the changing roles in society It is a sad reality that male figures are no longer held in the same esteemed place as they once were. With images of Al Bundy, Homer Simpson and the like being hoisted upon the American psyche for decades the modern male is seen has been portrayed as a hapless buffoon. Men who sacrificed their lives in war, to those who undertook dangerous jobs that women didn’t want, it can be argued that male figures of today have been somewhat overlooked in society. Consequently, it does not come as a surprise that male populations across the world have decreased extensively – with some nations dubbing the male population an ‘endangered species’ due to the uncertain future of their roles in society. It is clear from this analysis that male figures are struggling with redefining themselves for a changing time. Men are no longer the breadwinners and providers that they once were Women in today’s society contribute significantly to the household income, thus decreasing men’s roles as breadwinners or providers. Women are also more likely to end marriages due to dissatisfaction than they were a few decades ago. In fact in almost 80% of divorces it’s the woman who initiates the breakup. Nowadays, many single women are perfectly capable of supporting themselves and taking care of their own needs instead of relying on men. Women don’t feel that they need a man for stability and security like they used to – this is because women have more confidence in their ability to take care of themselves and make money of their own. This shift in gender roles has fundamentally changed the dynamic between men and women. However, statistics show women are less happy than ever even with this new found liberation. There has also been a stigma put on women who desire a more traditional existence. Women are shamed for wanting to stay home and be mothers and professional homemakers. As such, the feel pressured to go out and become a ‘girl boss’ often finding themselves lonely and depressed especially around the age of 35-39. Men are now expected to be emotionally available and in touch with their feelings Although masculine virtues of a protector and leader are still valued, men are now expected to bring more to the table in relationships and social interactions. This new standard emphasizes men being emotionally available and understanding, rather than stoic and distant. As a result, men are becoming more acquainted and comfortable with sharing their feelings with others, who in turn may benefit from learning how to communicate better and forming deeper bonds with each other. Yet a large portion of women surveyed indicate they don’t want to see their man cry. A man is now expected to be all things to all women. The traditional masculine ideal is no longer as valued as it once was John Wayne, Mickey Mantle, and Superman have long been representations of the traditional masculine ideal. Hailing from different generations, these men each symbolized strength, confidence, and physical prowess. Despite the near-universal reverence for these symbols of a bygone era, the traditional masculine ideal is no longer as celebrated or as valued as it once was (at least not in pop culture). While many women surveyed still want the knight in shining armor they aren’t allowed to see it on the big screen lest this be considered gender non-equality. Modern masculinity has shifted towards emphasizing resilience and internal strength rather than outward displays of power or bravado. Yet, funny enough the number one movie of the past decade was a throwback, testosterone filled film called ‘Maverick.’ This has led to a crisis of masculinity, where men don’t know who they are or what their place in society is anymore We are seeing a rapid shifting of traditional roles and expectations for men, driven by societal and cultural changes over the past several generations. This shift has left many men feeling displaced, without a clear understanding of who they are or how they should interact with others in society. The complexity, confusion and discomfort surrounding this crisis are contributing to feelings of lost identity and purpose in men who no longer feel supported or understood as onc

S25 Ep 298Top 25 Bits of Wisdom I've Gathered in My First 48 Years-The Birthday Special

So Sunday February 19th I turn 48. I don’t like birthdays. They are simply a reminder I’m not as young as I feel. However, they are a time to reflect on what has transpired thus far in one’s life. Here’s a little of what I’ve learned. You will survive almost every tragedy that befalls you You DON’T have to try to make people like you. Just be the type of person it’s easy to like It takes more energy to hate than to forgive You will never have enough money to do all the things you want to do  True joy comes from experiences not things Developing skills and pursuing activities that make you a better person but no money at all are indeed worthwhile Loving with full abandon is the surest way to keep your spouse happy  When cooking a steak, trust the process. Don’t check the meat every minute. Find the time and temperature that works and trust the process People will always disappoint you. They’re human. That’s what humans do It’s okay to be a nobody in the world’s eyes. What matter is being a somebody your wife and children can depend on “He who conquers his mind conquers the world.” Contentment is the brass ring not the brass ring Age is in fact just a number. How you feel is what matters most Stay active. It’s magical how amazing being healthy feels Not drinking alcohol is awesome If you smile at the world, more times than not it will smile back at you. Sounds cheesy, but it’s true Divine appointments are real. I’ve had more than I can count Managing the distance between action and reaction can change everything Trying to control others is pointless. You can only control yourself You don’t need nor can explain the actions of others. Leave it to them. You are only accountable for your own actions Apologize quickly Being a good listener is far more important than being a good talker It’s ok to keep your opinion to yourself It’s ok to disagree with people just do it respectfully Like C.S. Lewis said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.” I’m sure there’s more. After all, it’s been nearly half a century. However these are 20 of the main lessons I’ve taken from life so far. I can wait to see what the next 48 holds.

S4 Ep 296Cold Exposure-What are The Benefits? How Cold? Will It Make Me Lose Weight? How Often? Is There A Downside? What Does Dr. Andrew Huberman Have to Say?

Cold Exposure-What are The Benefits? How Cold? Will It Make Me Lose Weight? How Often? Is There A Downside? What Does Dr. Andrew Huberman Have to Say? Why all the fuss about cold plunging and thermogenesis If you’re like most people, the thought of plunging into cold water might make you shiver. But what if I told you that there are some major benefits to be gained by taking a dip in ice cold water? Recent studies have shown that exposure to colder temperatures can actually help improve your overall health and wellness. Here’s a closer look at why all the fuss about cold plunging and thermogenesis. What is cold plunging and why does it have benefits for the body? Cold plunging, also known as cryotherapy, is a practice made popular in recent years by the likes of Ben Greenfield. The simple practice consists of taking quick plunges into cold water – ideally no warmer than 50-60°F – which has significant mental and physical benefits. First, blood sugar becomes better regulated after each plunge; this helps to stabilize blood pressure and fight off cravings that cause weight gain. Second, endorphins, or the “feel good” hormones, are released which leads to a more positive energy flow and improved focus. Lastly, metabolism is boosted up to nine times normal rates due to the body’s approach towards keeping it warm; increased calorie burn leads to weight loss over time. cold plunging adds an attractive option alongside more traditional forms of exercise, a truly unique way to enhance any health routine. How does cold water therapy help with thermogenesis and weight loss specifically? Cold water therapy is becoming increasingly popular as a natural way to support weight loss. Not only can it boost the metabolism and rev up thermogenesis, but it also helps burn excess fat through specific physiological reactions. When cold water enters the body, the sympathetic nervous system kicks in and sends signals to fat cells, which leads to burning of stored fats for energy. Additionally, the sudden increase in metabolic activity raises core body temperature, which then increases thermogenesis. Because these processes require additional energy from the body’s reserves, this form of therapy can be very helpful with natural weight loss over time. Are there any risks associated with cold plunging, and how can they be avoided? Cold plunging can offer a range of health benefits from reducing stress to improving blood circulation, however, it is important to be aware that there are some risks associated with this practice. If you’re not taking the necessary precautions you may increase your chances of developing cold-related illnesses or injuries such as hypothermia and muscular strains. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, it is important to acclimatise yourself before entering the cold plunge by having a warm shower beforehand and starting off with cooler temperatures. It is also recommended that new cold plunge participants have someone nearby in case of any complications which may occur. With these precautions in mind, you can safely enjoy all the health benefits that come along with this invigorating pastime. What are some other benefits of cold water therapy that people may not know about? Cold water therapy has long been praised for its pain-relief abilities, but there are many more benefits to the practice than initially thought. Cold water therapy can also improve circulation and prevent inflammation, reduce stiffness in muscles and joints, stimulate your immune system, slow down aging process due to its anti-inflammatory properties, and even decrease depression by releasing endorphins. And if you’re looking to burn some extra calories without putting too much strain on your body, cold water immersion can help to boost your metabolism. In essence, cold water therapy is a versatile health practice with numerous mental and physical benefits that can easily be incorporated into anyone’s lifestyle. How can someone get started with cold plunging if they’re interested in trying it out themselves? If you’re interested in trying out cold plunging then the best place to start is ice barrel ice showers. Many ice bath experts believe this to be the most beneficial form of cold bathing, as it can provide a huge therapeutic effect and even reduce inflammation. Another great way to get started with cold plunging is just going for regular walks in the wintertime. Not only will this invigorate and energize yourself, but you’ll also slowly begin to increase your tolerance for colder temperatures and condition your body over time. Lastly, if you don’t mind being half naked in public (at least until you become more used to ice bath temperatures) then try visiting a nature hotspot — like a cold river, pond or beach — during colder months and just jump right in! Overall, cold plunging has a lot of benefits for the human body that range from improving physical health to aid
