From the publisher
I’m Keir Wotherspoon. I’ve been self-employed as a fitness coach and health educator for 16 years. I ran a gym business for over five of those. I’m also a dad of three. Like many people, I’ve spent years trying to balance work, health, ambition, and family life, and I’ve learned how easy it is for energy to quickly disappear in the process. This podcast is about understanding where that energy goes, and how to rebuild it without burning yourself out. The High Performance Gym explores how your body, brain, and nervous system respond to stress, training, recovery, sleep, and pressure — and how small, repeatable changes can restore clarity, focus, and physical energy. Some episodes are practical. Some are reflective. All are grounded in physiology, neuroscience, and real life. If you want to perform well at work, show up at home, and still feel like yourself, this podcast is for you. This is The High Performance Gym.

S3 Ep 48Why I Don't Care My Kids Are Late For School & The Morning Habit That Set Kids Up To Learn.
EEvery morning, millions of parents race against the clock — stressed, shouting, and throwing kids into cars just to make a bell. But what if the obsession with being on time is actually setting your children up to fail?In this episode, host Keir Wotherspoon shares the controversial parenting decision that divided the internet, the science behind why your child's morning routine could be damaging their ability to learn, and why the education system wasn't built for your child at all.Key Takeaways:The real reason your child can't focus at school — and it starts before they even arriveWhy one dad made a controversial decision that got him labelled a "bad parent" onlineThe simple morning habit that naturally boosts dopamine, regulates hormones, and primes kids to learnWhat a burned-out single mum's story reveals about the impossible standards parents are held toThe surprising thing a teacher said about late arrivals vs. stressed arrivalsWhy the education system wasn't designed for your child — and what year it actually was designed forThe counterintuitive skill your child needs to develop before you teach them punctualityTell me what you thought of this episode:Email me directly hereConnect with me:InstagramFacebook

S3 Ep 47You're not lazy or stupid - Your brain just works differently.
EDo you ever feel like your brain is like a million browser tabs open at once? You start a task, get distracted and then set it aside to start a new project. Only later do you realise you have a ton of unfinished projects. And nothing actually finished. You might think this is a motivation problem, a lack of willpower or that you’re just a lazy bugger who can’t finish what you started. But neither of those is true. You’re not lazy, stupid or unmotivated. Your brain just works differently. And the harder you try to "fix" yourself, the worse it will get. In this episode, we’re going to discuss:Why your brain treats a simple email like climbing Everest (and why that's not your fault)How the Speed Boat Method will help you get projects finished three times faster. The 3 chemicals that control focus and why your work environment could be the problem you fall behind on projects. Why you feel constantly on edge. Hint, it’s because you’re fighting the wrong battle. Why understanding ADHD will help you work with your brain so you’re not feeling anxious, rejected and like you’re always doing something wrong. >>> Energy Diagnostics Call: <<<Further resources, podcast episodes and people mentioned:Episode on GoalsHans Zimmer PlaylistAndrew Huberman PodcastConnect with me:Email InstagramFacebook

S3 Ep 46Time Management Vs Energy Management.
EIf you’re busy all day, shattered by 6pm, and still feel like you’ve achieved nothing, this episode is for you.I break down why time management doesn’t work in real life for busy dads, business owners and men who work hard all day. And why time management actually leaves you drained, frustrated and stuck on the sofa at night. This episode isn’t about productivity hacks, colour-coded calendars, or squeezing more into your day. It’s about understanding how your body actually works. I explain: ◼️ Why “just manage your time better” is useless advice when you’re already exhausted ◼️ How your mental energy works like a battery (and why it’s empty by 6 pm) ◼️ The hidden energy drain that keeps most people ◼️ Why discipline has an energy cost most people ignore. ◼️ How small changes to your day can give you more energy without sacrificing your time. >>> Energy Diagnostic Call <<<Get in touch:EmailInstagramFacebookLIFT Performance Academy

S3 Ep 45You'll Likely Never Lack Energy Again If You Give These 7 Simple Habits a Shot
EIf you’re waking up tired, hitting a wall by mid-afternoon, and wondering why life feels harder than it used to… this episode is for you.A few years ago, after burning out while running a gym and raising a young family, I realised something important:Energy isn’t something you push for, it’s something you build systematically. In this episode, I break down 7 simple habits that quietly restored my energy after burnout — habits I still use today, now backed by a much deeper understanding of neuroscience, hormones, physiology, and behaviour. No ice baths, 5am hero routines or motivational hype.Just low-resistance habits that work with your biology, not against it.I talk about:Why inconsistent sleep destroys your energy (even if you “get enough hours”)How morning light and movement regulate motivation, focus, and moodThe real role of cortisol (and why it’s not the enemy)Why excess body fat can quietly drain energyHow mental noise and unprocessed thoughts exhaust you more than work ever willAnd how to build these habits into a simple system that compounds over weeks, not daysIf you feel foggy, flat, or like you’re running on fumes — this isn’t a discipline problem. It’s a systems problem. And this episode will show you how to start fixing it.Book Your 45-minute Diagnostics Call (here)Questions? S3 Ep 44How to Set Goals in 2026
EMost guys will set goals in 2026. Most will abandon them within weeks. Not because they’re weak, but because the brain isn’t designed to handle the way we're told to set goals. In this episode, Keir breaks down what actually happens in the brain when you aim too high, move too fast, or try to change everything at once. The result isn’t ambition. It’s shutdown. You’ll learn:Why big goals create fear instead of progressHow belief shapes what you’re capable of achievingThe “mini-target” approach that builds momentum quicklyHow to design habits your brain can stick toThe simple system that helped one client lose 100lbs without extremes or burnoutThis is a practical, grounded approach to building a year you can sustain — based on how the brain really works, not how we wish it worked. If goals haven’t worked for you in the past, this episode will show you what to do instead.Connect with me:EmailInstagramFacebook

S3 Ep 40Is Your Daughter at Risk of RED-S?
EHey parents,The risk for teenage girls is real. Overtraining and under-fuelling are more common than most people think. Those at highest risk are sports that value aesthetics, weight, or endurance... things like running, gymnastics, martial arts, boxing, rowing, swimming, and dance. But with football now demanding year-round training, multiple matches, and high fitness expectations, we’re seeing more girls showing the same early warning signs — constant fatigue, missed periods, and recurring injuries. It’s not about effort or discipline. It’s about energy availability... and when the body doesn’t have enough fuel to match its output, it starts to shut down the very systems that make an athlete strong. That’s why awareness matters. The Female Athlete Performance Quiz helps you spot the early warning signs — low mood, fatigue, disrupted sleep, irregular periods, or slow recovery — before they turn into something serious. It only takes a couple of minutes to complete, and the results could save your daughter years of frustration, injury, or worse.👉 Take the Athlete Energy Quiz together here
