DOCE AÑOS Y NUEVA VIDADoce años y nueva Vida. Eso es lo que trata este evangelio que acabamos de escuchar. ¿Por qué?. Porqué la mujer con el flujo de sangre de doce años que hoy día fuera, a lo mejor, un cáncer el útero. Y otra mujer. Mejor dicho otra jovencita de doce años, casi llegando ser mujer pero quien tristemente muere antes que llega Jesús. Dos hembras de distintas edades, una que ha sufrido. Otra que ha vivido…doce años y ambas de ellas, el papá y familia esperando, anhelando buscando NUEVA VIDA para su niñita casi llegando a ser una mujercita. Creo yo que San Mateo y San Marcos tienen estas dos curaciones juntas porque son historia que nos enseñan la importancia de tener siempre la fe y la esperanza de recibir Nueva Vida de Dios, nueva sanación, nueva vida de Jesús. Cuándo trato yo de este evangelio siempre me gusta compartir algo que el Padre Cándido me enseñó hace muchos años cuando estaba yo pasando tiempo en Brasil. Padre Cándido me dijo que cuando Jesús le dice en arameo TALITH KUM el sentido exacto es Mi ovejita, levántate…Porque Padre Cándido me dijo que en arameo la palabra TALITHA significa OVEJITA. Y ovejita fue en aquel tiempo un apodo tierno para uno dirigirse a una niñita así de doce años…Digo todo eso porque hace 38 años en Santo Domingo escribí un cuento LA OVEJITA COMELONA. El cuento trató de una oveja en el tiempo de Jesús que llegó a conocer a Jesús y entender el la Ultima Cena lo que es la Santa Eucaristía…Antes de escribir el cuento yo había dado la primera y ultima comunión a Ascania Howley quien estaba muriendo de leucemia..Ascania no tenía la suerte de esta niña de Jairo a quien Jesús le devolvió la vida física…Pero el evangelio de hoy, sobre todo cuando vemos y admiramos la fe de la mujer que tocó el manto de Jesús y a fe de Jairo y su familia y dejó a Jesús tocar a su querida niña muerta, pues nos anima. Cito una oración sobre el evangelio de hoy que leí yo en la Asociación Católica de Salud de USA… Que los que se hayan muerto por las injusticias de estos tiempos se levanten al sonido de la voz de Jesús como hizo esta hijita de Jairo. Que todos nosotros veamos con los propios ojos de Dios: olvidando raza, clase, orientación de género, país de origen, orientación religiosa u política, o cualquier cosas que nos divida de las personas humanas al lado nuestro. ………... Como Cuerpo de Cristo oigamos la voz de Jesús como la niña de Jairo para así levantarnos y caminar hacia los que tienen hambre y sed de la justicia o de lo que podremos hacer para socorrerles. Yo, Padre Tomás Martín vivo acá en los Estados Unidos. Hoy, día cuatro de Julio celebramos lo que llamamos el Día de la Independencia. Conmemora la llamada Declaración de la Independencia, documento que proclamó el deseo de lo que eran en aquel entonces 13 colonias de Inglaterra fuéramos una nación independiente. Hay una frase en esa Declaración de la Independencia que dice así: Para nosotros las siguientes verdades son mas que claras: primero, que todos los hombres han sido creados iguales, segundo que todos hombres han sido dotados por el Creador con ciertos derechos inalienables y que entre estos derechos inalienables son LA VIDA, LA LIBERTAD y la BÚSQUEDA DE LA FELIDAD Y EL BIENESTER. Hoy se cumple 252 dos años que los Estados Unidos ha sido una nación independiente. Pero creo que el evangelio que hemos leído hoy me urge a mi y nos urge a todos nosotros a que examinemos nuestra consciencia. Hoy Cristo nos dice a nosotros lo mismo que les dijo a sus primeros discípulos en el evangelio: 'Si alguien me ama, guardará mis palabras, También Jesús nos dice esto sobre lo que para él es LA PAZ: . Les dejo la paz, les doy mi paz. La paz que yo les doy no es como la que da el mundo. Hoy las palabras de Jesús nos exigen que reconozcamos la triste verdad que es que en los Estados Unidos no han sido respetados esos inalienables derechos a LA VIDA, LA LIBERTAD Y LA FELICIDAD a muchas personas. ( En particular esos derechos para muchas personas pobres, sin techo, sin empleo y sin empleo justamente remunerado no han sido respetados y cumplidos. En muchos casos los derechos a la vida a los seres humanos no nacidos no han sido respetados. Creo que hoy debemos primero orar y entonces seguir luchando hasta que todas las naciones del mundo entero vivamos en paz respetando aquel inalienable derecho a la paz a todos los demá[email protected]

Hoy celebramos a San Ireneo, uno de los primeros teólogos de la Iglesia. Nació Ireneo en lo hoy día es Turquía. Llegó a ser sacerdote en Lyon que hoy día es un pueblo al Sur de Francia. Lyon fue parte del imperio Romano. Los Romanos mataron muchos cristianos. Cuando Ireneo llegó de un viaje de Roma halló muchos cristianos masacrados inclusive Ponthio el obispo. Por eso Ireneo llegó ser un gran obispo. En ese tiempo los llamados gnósticos no creían en la unión entre el cuerpo y el espíritu. Por eso no podían aceptar a Cristo como Dios y también hombre…ser humano al igual que divino. Ireneo enfatizó estas cosas:*Hay un lazo entre el Viejo y el Nuevo Testamentos llegando a la persona de Cristo. De JesúsHay un solo Dios en la Creación y la Salvación llegando al Misterio pascual de JesúsNo hay nada malo y corrupto en la creación Ireneo nos enseña que fue únicamente por el pecado que perdimos la imagen y semejanza a Dios con las cuales hemos sido creados Ireneo enseña que en Cristo se ha devuelto a nosotros nuestra imagen y semejanza a Dios cosa dañada por AdánFinalmente nos enseña Ireneo que el Dios de la Salvación en Cristo ha sido quien nos llegaba ofrecer la NUEVA VIDA porque Cristo Jesús por su Encarnación asumió en si mismo nuestra humanidad herida.Creo yo que cada vez que San Ireneo le habló a la gente sobre el hombre con la lepra que le dice a Jesús: “Señor, si quieres, puedes curarme” pues Ireneo dejó bien dicho a la gente que, si Jesús no hubiera sido ambas cosas, o sea un buen hombre de Dios y un buen hombre que era, a la misma vez el propio Hijo de Dios, pues Jesús mas nunca podía haber dicho; Si! Te quero curar. Otra cosa importante que creo yo que Ireneo había hecho fue recordarle al hombre que él acabó de sanar para que el hombre fuera a los sacerdotes de aquel entonces para ofrecer una ofrenda de gratitud…Uds. y yo sabemos que hoy en día hay cosas peores de la lepra y enfermedades de la piel o del cuerpo. Por eso vamos a orar así. Jesús, te damos gracias por su querido San Ireneo y sus buenas y sabias enseñanzas. Pero Jesús le pedimos también que nos ayude luchar, orar y hacer todo lo posible acabar los odios, las injusticias, las guerra y divisiones que aunque no dañan el piel dañan su imagen y su semejanza en nuestras almas.

I am Fr. Karl Esker from the Basilica of our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn, NY. Today is Friday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time.Today’s reading is taken from the holy Gospel according to Matthew: Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. "The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be." The gospel of the Lord. In our gospel today, Jesus tells his disciples: “where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” We often think of a treasure as something material, like a pot of gold or a bank account, a shiny new car or a dream house. But it could just as well be a relationship, like a very dear friend or a significant other, or something less material, like ambition to power or status within a group. And it may happen that our lives seem so scattered all over the place, or so taken up with just getting my, that we lose sight of our treasure. Jesus warns that if we do not look for and choose our treasure well, we could end up losing it and everything else. That is what we see in the first reading. There we hear the story of Athaliah, the mother of the king, who could not bear the thought of losing her position and influence when the king died. Her ambition led her to try to kill the whole king’s family and become herself the queen. She almost succeeded, but one of her grandchildren escaped, and when that child grew up, those officials who had remained faithful to God’s covenant proclaimed him king to the joy of the people; and Athaliah lost not only her position, but her life as well. It’s a story worthy of the Game of Thrones, but here the main point is not the intrigue, but God’s faithfulness to God’s people. The question of the treasure is not so much what we do with it, but what we become with it. What is the value system we take on to attain our treasure? As Jesus in another part of the gospels asks: “What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit one’s life?” By life he means the full realization of our humanity in right relationship with God and with others. So, to choose the wrong treasure is to direct our lives toward something that will not help us grow as human beings and children of God. This is where Jesus’ parable about our interior light comes in. We need to cultivate a sound conscience, otherwise it will be overgrown by the tangle of our desires and we will end up in darkness. We need a good eye to see our true selves and the true treasure that may lie hidden in our heart, overshadowed by the busyness of our lives. One way would be to examine where we spend our time. Outside of work or study, how much time to I spend paging through social media? How important is it to score or give “likes?” Do I go crawling through some dark places of the Internet? Does my use of the Internet help me grow as a person, or does it just feed my curiosity and my fears. Am I becoming a slave to it? And what about the other areas of my life? To cultivate a sound conscience and discover my true self, I need to spend time with Jesus in prayer and reflecting on the gospels; I need to invest myself in my relationships with my family, my work, and my church or neighborhood. This will help me to grow as a human being. Then I will know the value of the other things in my life, because my true treasure is God’s gift of myself and the ability to relate myself in love to God and to the others God places in my life.
