LO QUE APRENDIERON PEDRO Y DOMINGOHay un Viejo refrán que dice: “Los tropezones nos enseñan levantarnos los pies” Dicho de una manera más sencilla nos quiere decir que muchas veces cuando nos equivocamos pues una experiencia vergonzosa y dura nos ayuda hacer las cosas mejor en el futuro. Creo que eso es lo que le pasó a Pedro cuando, al oír Jesús decir estas palabras: el hijo de hombre tiene que ir a Jerusalén para padecer allí mucho de parte de los ancianos, de los sumos sacerdotes y de los escribas; que tenía que ser condenado a muerte y resucitar al tercer día.¨ Pedro se equivocó cuando le dijo esto a Jesús: "No lo permita Dios, Señor. Eso no te puede suceder a ti" Pedro dijo eso porque ni él ni ningunos de los demás discípulos entendieron nada de lo que nosotros sabemos fue Y ES EL MISTERIO PASCUAL DE JESÚS. Jesús, al oír esto de Pedro le dijo: tu modo de pensar no es el de Dios, ¡sino el de los hombres!"… Para Pedro y los apóstoles la muerte siempre era un signo de un fracaso. Ellos más nunca creían que Jesús iba ser un fracaso. Pero nosotros sabemos ahora lo que el mismo Pedro y todos los que aman y siguen a Jesús. Y es que La Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección de Jesús, el Misterio Pascual no es nada de fracaso. Es el TRIUNFO…el triunfo del amor de Dios, el Amor de Jesús sobre el pecado, la maldad y cualquier forma de abuso de los pobres y oprimidos del mundo. San Dominico, cuya fiesta celebramos hoy aprendió, al igual que Pedro a ¨levantarse los pies¨. Porque Dominico, al contrario de San Pedro hasta “buscaba la muerte” predicando en contra las herejías del tiempo. Pero Dominica llegó a levantarse los pies. Porque Domingo llegó a entender que Jesús, aunque murió en la Cruz lo que buscaba Jesús no fue la muerte sino Jesús buscaba la NUEVA VIDA y el amor y el perdón de todos. El Salmo Responsorial hoy de dice esto: Crea en mí, Señor, un corazón puro, un espíritu nuevo para cumplir tus mandamientos. Señor haga eso mismo en nosotros…lo que por el Espíritu Santo hiciste en San Pedro y San Domingo. EUCARISTÍAS NOS LLAMAN LA ATENCIÓN A LOS POBRESLa comida, el alimento es esencial para la vida. Sin comer, sin alimentarnos morimos. Prueba de eso son los millones de personas que mueren cada día y no únicamente en lugares lejanos de los países ricos sino dentro de ciudades de los Estados Unidos y otros países con tanto dinero y tantos recursos. Jesús entendió eso. Jesús se llamó EL PAN DE LA VIDA. Él dijo: YO SOY EL PAN BAJADO DEL CIELO. El que viene a mí no tendrá hambre y el que cree en mí nunca tendrá sed". Cuando la gente viene buscando a Jesús, Jesús sabe que la gente más nunca sospechó que él, aun siendo EL PAN BAJADO DEL CIELO que él iba ser traicionado, juzgado y crucificado sobre la Cruz en el Calvario. Jesús sabía lo que la gente no entendía que hay muchos tipos de alimento más que pan. Hay Amor, Paz, Justicia, Perdón. Hay alimentos que se llaman compasión, entrega, humildad y valentía. Jesús quiere que Uds. y yo entendamos que hay alimentos que él había dicho en sus Bienaventuranzas: GOZO, TERNURA, COMPASIÓN PARA LOS QUE SUFREN, LA VOLUNTAD DE SUFRIR COMO sufrió Jesús mismo a favor de la justicia sobre todo por la justicia y buen trato de los que la sociedad muchas veces olvida o no toma en cuenta. Cuando Jesús cambió agua en vino en Caná eso llamó mucha la atención. Y cuando Jesús multiplica los cinco o siete panes y peces en aquella loma eso también llamó mucho la atención.Creo que las lecturas de este domingo nos llaman la atención. Porque cada vez que nos sentamos para vivir la Eucaristía. Cada vez que Jesús nos alimenta con su Cuerpo y Sangre y lo que PARECEN un pedazo de pan y unas gotas de vino. Cuando Jesús nos alimenta así en la Eucaristía lo que Jesús espero es que el dolor y la miseria de los pobres y olvidados del mundo, que sus necesidades nos llamen la atención. Como San Pablo nos dice en la lectura hoy de los Efesios: “Dejen que el Espíritu renueve su mente y revístanse del nuevo yo, creado a imagen de Dios, en la justicia y en la santidad de la verdad.”Si me quieren enviar comentarios:[email protected]

SIENDO SIGNOS DEL AMOR DE DIOS Y DE JESÚS La semana pasada hubo un llamado Congreso Eucarístico en la ciudad de Indianápolis acá en los Estados Unidos. Allá había casi 50,000 personas. Todas ellas en ese Congreso oraron, cantaron, adoraron a Cristo presente en el Sacramento Eucarístico. Muchos confesaron sus pecados en el Sacramento de la Reconciliación y recibieron el Cuerpo y Sangre de Jesús en la Comunión de la Misa.Lo que el profeta hace en la primera lectura, ofreciendo aquellos veinte panes para alimentar a la gente al igual que lo que Jesús hace en el evangelio con solo cinco panes fueron gestos de amor para la gente que alimentaron. Dios nos alimenta con su amor para que nosotros, alimentados por Dios busquemos formas de alimentar a los demás. Sobre todo la Eucaristía nos urge a alimentar a la gente mas desnutrida, a la gente sub nutrida y muchas veces olvidada y maltratada …La gente que han regresado a sus hogares después del Congreso Eucarístico todos ellos y todos nosotros podemos hacer lo que hizo Elisha y sobre todo lo que hizo Jesús al multiplicar los panes y peces allá en la montaña.La verdad es que Jesús me reta a mi, nos reta a nosotros. Jesús le invita al mundo entero de todos los países de hallar nuevas formas de alimentar a nuestros hermanas e hermanos en todas partes del mundo. La Sagrada Eucaristía nos reta, nos invita a acabar con todas las hambres, todas las injusticias y todos los odios que van afeando este mundo creado con tanto amor por Dios.Cuando nosotros que somos católicos hablamos sobre la PRESENCIA REAL de Jesús en el Sagrado Sacramento la cosa mas importante es que RECONOZCAMOS Y RESPETEMOS LA VERDADERA PRESENCIA DE JESUS EN TODOS LOS QUE SUFREN Y EN TODOS LOS QUE SE TRATEN MAL.Cuando logramos reconocer la verdadera presencia de Dios en todos los que sufren va creciendo la verdadera SAGRADA COMUNIÓN.Porque lo que mas le hace falta en el mundo de hoy es la SANTA, LA SAGRADA COMUNIÓN. …Señor, ayúdanos a vivir la Eucaristía…siendo signos vivos de su amor y tu compasión para nosotros. Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time – BJuly 21, 2024 Hello and welcome to the Word, bringing you the Good News of Jesus Christ every day from the Redemptorists of the Baltimore Province. I am Fr. Karl Esker from the Basilica of our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn, NY. Today is the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Our reading today is taken from the holy gospel according to Mark The apostles gathered together with Jesus and reported all they had done and taught. He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” People were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat. So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place. People saw them leaving and many came to know about it. They hastened there on foot from all the towns and arrived at the place before them. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.The gospel of the Lord. With psalm 23 we sing “The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want;” and we see that put into practice by Jesus in the gospel. Our reading there ends with the words: [When Jesus} saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. That had not been Jesus’ original intention. After the apostles had returned from their mission, great crowds of people kept coming and going, and they had no time even to eat. So, Jesus invited them to go with him by themselves in a boat to “a deserted place and rest a while.” Somehow the crowd caught wind of it and knew where they were going. They raced ahead on foot and were waiting for Jesus when he arrived with his apostles at his special place. Instead of being disappointed and angry with the crowd for infringing on his plans, he sat down and patiently attended the crowds. In the first reading from the prophet Jeremiah, we heard that because God was disappointed with the shepherds of Israel, God himself would shepherd his people, and would raise up a righteous one. We know that Jesus is that righteous one, Emmanuel, God with us. He is our Good Shepherd. Jesus was a shepherd to the apostles. He not only sent them out in mission filled with the power of his spirit, but was concerned about them and took care of them on their return. The crowds, too, were the object of his concern. Even though they were demanding and not fully aligned with his message, he put their needs before his own. Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, takes that a step farther, and declares that Jesus is not only the shepherd of Israel, but the shepherd of the gentiles as well. Through his death on the cross and his resurrection, Jesus broke down the wall dividing the peoples, so that now, all are called to be one people of God in the Spirit granted by Christ Jesus, who is now the shepherd of the whole world. That is good news for us, because it means that Jesus is always with us, looking after us even when we are inconsistent and stray. Like the apostles, he invites us to spend time with him, meditating on his word and actions in the gospel and opening our hearts to him in prayer, sharing our deepest anxieties and doubts, and also our joys and concerns. And as the apostles learned to today’s gospel, there will be time when we have to put the needs of others ahead of our own, because like the apostles, Jesus sends us out not only to spread the news of God’s loving concern for each one of us, but to live that concern in the daily actions of our lives. Like the apostles, we will not always be consistent, but the more time we spend with Jesus, the closer we will come to his way. As St. Paul assures us, we have already received his spirit in Baptism, and he will never abandon us. He is not only our companion for the journey, he is also our food for the journey, as we will hear in the Sundays to come.May God bless you.``Fr. Karl E.
