Ep 190The Everyday Sniper Episode 189 Gathering Talk, Plus Optics, Barrels and Training

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 189 Gathering Talk, Plus Optics, Barrels and Training After having my computer die a second time, I had to upgrade my equipment so that put me behind the Eight Ball for a few days. Wanted to talk about the Gathering and some high points from the event. A couple in no particular order" The Attendance The Range Day The Dinner The Sponsors The New Products I talk so optics, holding over with the reticle and distortions that might be involved and whether we can resolve those issues on target. Is it a big enough problem to address? John Baker and TacommHQ have a great new barrel system and his work in this space I feel is showing a lot of promise. Disturbing the Harmonic resonance of the barrel during firing may yield a bunch of benefits that were overlooked for so many years. Again, thanks to the big-name sponsors for the Gathering, I know there was more, but I only have a partial list in front of me. So thanks to Leupold, Vortex, Applied Ballistics, MHSA, and all the others who donated or attended the Gathering Event in Denver. Thanks for listening, thanks for sharing, thanks for being a part of the Everyday Sniper

Ep 189The Everyday Sniper Episode 188 My thoughts after Recent Events

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 188 My thoughts after Recent Events Without getting too political I want to discuss the gun control debate happening on the heels of the El Paso and Dayton Shootings. This topic affects us directly and some thing needs to be addressed without getting too political. The gun community immediately gets blamed for the attacks by individuals who have nothing to do with us. We are the scapegoats for the political class, especially in this election season. So with that said, I want to talk about the narrative, the story line, how we can elevate the conversation that might put those elements fighting against us back on defense. Nobody wants to see these tragedies happen, especially with a firearm, so the conversation has to continue. Thanks for listening, thanks for sharing, thanks for being a part of the Everyday Sniper

Ep 188The Everyday Sniper Episode 187 Useless Ramblings from the Clinically Insane

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 187 Useless Ramblings from the Clinically Insane I have no idea what I am even talking about in this episode, it's a blur. Mentioning a few lessons learned from our most recent competitions. I really enjoyed the way the class flowed this past weekend with Mike and the students from our July MHSA Precision Rifle Class. We are always adjusting and modifying the course to fit the students' needs and experience level. I think we nailed this one. I posted Marc Taylor's Weaponized Math, the X factor. You can find it on the main page of Sniper's Hide or in the forum under the Everyday Sniper Section. It's really easy, and it will get you one target with very little effort on your part. Speaking of training, I breakdown the Tennessee Class we are announcing for mid fall at Treadproof. If you are interested in attending any of our classes, check the Sniper's Hide Website for details. Finally, thanks for listening, sharing and commenting in the Podbean App. We really appreciate it and we want to grow our community so invite a friend to subscribe to our podcast Cheers,

Generally, we just wanted to bust out a podcast during lunch to make sure you all had something to listen too. If you look at the episode cover you can see exactly where the snake stopped under Mike's Chair in the classroom. it was a comedic episode and worth the time to listen. Don't forget to comments, post and share the Everday Sniper Podcast, hopefully, you have as much fun listening as we do talking about this stuff.

Then we talk about his training strategies, the mental aspect of the game which Adam puts a heavy focus on. Adam is very straight forward, down to earth and practical in his take on precision rifle competition. Thanks for listening, thanks for sharing and thanks for being a part of the Everyday Sniper. Ep 180The Everyday Sniper Episode 179 My Celebrity Train Wreck MOA Rant

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 179 My Celebrity Train Wreck MOA Rant Frank here with the Everyday Sniper and Sniper's Hide, in this pre-4th of July episode I go on a nice rant regarding the Mil vs MOA debate. Seems like this thing won't go away anytime soon as guys continue to stir this punch bowl. The debate is silly, there is defined disciplines that work with MOA, in our game it's Mils all the way. It's easier, it's efficient and it makes communicating that much better. If you are an MOA shooter I feel sad for you, it's a terrible life to live in today's world. So if you dig MOA adjusted scopes, let me know what a jerk I am. I follow up with a few other tirades, but nothing too crazy. Thanks for listening, thanks for sharing, thanks for being a part of the Everyday Sniper Podcast. Cheers,

Ep 179The Everyday Sniper Episode 178 Joel Wise Interview Precision Rifle Network

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 178 Joel Wise Interview Precision Rifle Network We just finished our June MHSA Precision Rifle class and Joel Wise of the Precision Rifle Network was a student in the class. So being a media guy in the gun industry I thought we would do a podcast about the Class. Joel is the main video guy for the Precision Rifle Series, and does a lot of content and filming for Shannon Kay and the PRS. He has a great perspective on the industry seeing it from many angles. The conversation mainly focuses on our class and Joel's experience during the class but we also go off on a few tangents as I am one to do. We got interrupted twice with scam phones calls as I never remember to put my phone in AirPlane Mode when I am recording podcasts from the phone. But aside from the two small interruptions I think this a great interview. Thanks to Joel for Attending the MHSA Precision Rifle Class, and being a part of the Everyday Sniper Podcast. Thanks to all the listeners and those who share and comment in the Podbean App. Really appreciate ya all

Ep 178The Everyday Sniper Episode 177 Phil Velayo SHC After Action

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 177 Phil Velayo SHC After Action Great Episode here with top shooter, USMC Scout Sniper Instructor and Precision Rifle Instructor Phil Velayo on the line. Phil came in second place at the Sniper's Hide Cup with his partner Beau, so his perspective is super important to all. We breakdown some of the stages and well as the main elements to executing a great match finish. Getting Phil's perspective all all this adds some much to the Everyday Sniper Podcast. He gets it on a level most don't consider. We cover a wide range of topics from Wind to Trajectory and including the Fundamentals of Marksmanship. This should sound familiar. If you want to meet Phil, he is the lead instructor for Gunwerks, and he attends a ton of NRL and PRS matches out West here. Thanks to all for listening, thanks for sharing and be sure to comment. I also want to thank Phil again for taking time out during a busy week of training.

Ep 177The Everyday Sniper Episode 176 Sniper's Hide Cup AAR

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 176 Sniper's Hide Cup AAR Back from the Sniper's Hide Cup, and wanted to do an after action from my perspective of the competition. I was a range officer, slash scorekeeper on stage 1 on the A side of the match. My stage was 3 targets at 680, 650, and 680, really interesting to see the mix of shooter and how they attacked the problem. Other important areas of discussion were, Safety, because it is always about safety. Efficiency, how to manage a stage under time Movement, another part of efficiency It was great visiting with so many of the competitors, congrats to Nick and Adam, as well as Phil and Beau, Serge and Jorge, with Piper Corson winning top individual. Ep 176The Everyday Sniper Episode 175 Talking Ammo, Merino Wool, Sniper's Hide Competitions, and So much More

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 175 Talking Ammo, Merino Wool, Sniper's Hide Competitions, and So much More Welcome to the Everyday Sniper, this is my pre-travel Sniper's Hide Cup episode where I have nothing to say about the match, except that I have nothing to say. The Rifleman's Team Challenge crew along with Carl Taylor and Clint Sharp are doing all the heavy lifting because I have been so out of pocket its crazy. We talk factory ammo. I just shot the new Made in US Prime Ammo load and I want to go on about that as much as I can. I also shot the factory loads being used to test the APO Sniper's Hide Edition Rifles. Great stuff there. We talk Merino wool from Varusteleka.com, I really dig the Merino wool Hoodie and Jacket they sent along. Plus the added bonus of Scho-Ka-Kola candy from WWII. As always when I can, I answer Listener comments from he Podbean App. So if you comment in the App, I read them and respond. Ep 175The Everyday Sniper Episode 174 My Rant on LE Equipment

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 174 My Rant on LE Equipment Back from Alaska, this is my June After Action Report. The Civvy classes we did were excellent. No equipment issues I can recall, nobody needed to default the SH Edition APO Rifle. But we also did an LE class and that is completely different story. This was not about the shooters, but their equipment that went back to the 1990s. In my mind this is totally unacceptable for guys who work the harsh wilds of Alaska. Having a working rifle and optic that is older than most computers is just wrong. The conditions in this part of the country can kill equipment in seconds. It's important to have the right tools for the job. Hopefully this can light a fire under the departments to step up. Also thanks to David for guiding me on my World's Most Successful Bigfoot Hunt. Quals, I think quals and standards are very useful, and we need to recognize the benefit of having a very good qual system in place to test standards. Thanks for listening and being a part of the Everyday Sniper. Don't forget to comment and share

Ep 174The Everyday Sniper Episode 173 AK Precision Rifle Class with James and Wyatt

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 173 AK Precision Rifle Class with James and Wyatt Finished our first class from the second block of training here in Alaska. Had an awesome class, lots of really great shooters. We brought in two of the students, Wyatt, and James. Both students are from the Lower 48 as if I am not. But we wanted to get their perspective and talk about the class. This class went fantastic and the students took to their lessons like a duck to water. We were able to tighten up the presentation even more and get in a lot more drills. Thanks for listening, thanks for sharing, and thanks for being a part of the everyday sniper. Ep 173The Everyday Sniper Episode 172 Return to AK, APO SH Edition Rifle

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 172 Return to AK, APO SH Edition Rifle I am back in AK for the next block of classes and I wanted to drop an update on the SH Edition APO rifle. I knocked out a video detailing the system and why we spec'd it the way I did. I think Ashbury is doing a great job with the package, and things are quickly moving forward from the base system. Soon we will have paired options and that is very exciting. This system is moving forward. Also, I answer a few podbean questions as well as give you insight into my thinking when it comes to comparisons. Lots of guys continue to ask me my favorite color, and if you listen, the point of the podcast is to give you the tools to make your own buying decisions. Nobody will pick things in your best interest better than you, so arm yourself with the knowledge being dropped to make those better buying choices. We'll do our best to keep knocking these out, but don't forget you can always find me on Sniper's Hide in the forum. Thanks for listening, thanks for sharing and especially thanks for commenting. Ep 172The Everyday Sniper Episode 171 Frank Rambles On Answering Questions

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 171 Frank Rambles On Answering Questions In this episode we tackle some of the great questions we are getting in reference to the podcast. I read questions from both the Podbean App and from the Sniper's Hide Forum. In fact I get so carried away answering these questions I lose all track of time. Some of the questions asked include: Truing BC Left Hand Gain Twist Barrels Apps Muzzle Velocity Mike's BBQ Skillz Bipods Savage Rifles It's all about the understanding and clarifications of the concepts we are discussing. Ep 171The Everyday Sniper Episode 170 Valkyrie Bolt Action Rifle, Ammunition

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 170 Valkyrie Bolt Action Rifle, Ammunition Quick little upload before I head to Mike's house for a graduation party. Wanted to expand on my 224 Valkyrie Build as I was able to shoot it at the range this week. A bit of talk about calibers, ammunition and my thoughts on the subject of diminishing returns on your investment. This is an investment for a lot of people and I want to make sure you understand I am speaking to the 80% out there and not the top 20%. Shot a couple of videos for Sniper's Hide, a training lesson, two parter, and a public video of the Valkyrie. Lots of people have interest in the Valkyrie but the fact is, when Federal misfired with the 90gr Ammo, the idea of the caliber misfired with it. So while I understand the hate with the cartridge from this, I still there is a lot of positives making it a viable caliber for folks. But thanks for listening, thanks for sharing, thanks for being a part of the Everyday Sniper.

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 169 Car Trip Context Discussion In the car on the way home from the range so I decided to drop a podcast. Shooting some videos at the range today, so I will need to edit that stuff. There may be a bit of road noize but nothing too crazy. Context, I am trying to put things into context. We drop a lot knowledge bombs and shrapnel can spread to other discussions. I want to make sure you understand if we talk one app things dont always translate to other apps and vice versa. Also remember, you true BC at 800 and not 100, BC does nothing at 100 yards. Clarity and context is the name of the game. Just wanted to touch on the high points of the trip. Go over the pro and cons to what I saw, especially in terms of gear. It's important to. understand what quality gear brings to the table. Making the right buying decisions will pay off in the long run. Ep 166The Everyday Sniper Episode 165 Always 6 O Clock in Alaska

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 165 Always 6 O Clock in Alaska Made it to Alaska, sitting in the Capt Cook Hotel waiting to head north and drop some knowledge on the students. In this episode, we finish up reading the comments in the Podbean App. Ballistic discussion, the why, where are we going with this, WTF. We have explained the W, the wind. We have hammered you with the Fundamentals, the F, and now we need to focus on the T, trajectory. And for many that means Apps. Ballistic Apps. I am getting ready to revamp the training in regards to ballistic apps, and for that, I need you to understand the Why behind this stuff. So a little explanation is in order. Each comment is visible in the App and we encourage to comment on any and all topics. Discuss BCs and ballistics apps as well having to your part. E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 162 Rifle Set up, Busted Computer, Class In this episode I am recovering from my computer breaking this week. So I was without my main system to finish doing video work. But from there I had some great feedback from the class. So I take a deep dive into rifle set up. We go over length of pull, we talk setting up the optics. It's about understanding the principles and how they apply to you. I cannot see or feel what you feel. Its just like your car. if I get in to drive I will move the seat. So it's important you look at this and understand the why. From there we talk bipods, as a question was asked. Which bipod for which situation. It matters, so it's important to talk about it. Ep 155The Everyday Sniper Episode 154 NDs, Safety, PRN Video

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 154 NDs, Safety, PRN Video So a video was posted by Joel of the Precision Rifle Network regarding a situation he filmed at an event this past weekend. The shooter during a string of fire had an ND on the line, hid it, and in fact took an extra point. The video was being used to highlight a trend he has been noticing where safety has been falling by the wayside. He wanted to reverse this trend but instead was himself attacked. Safety is everyone's responsibility and should be job one at a Match. We are in close proximity to one another with high powered rifles. An accident intentional or otherwise can cause a lot of damage. There have to be rules in place and those rules must be enforced. I don't do this to point to the series, but rather in defense of Joel's actions as I feel he did the right thing the right way and he was being put on blast because of it. Safety, the 4 rules alone can be enough if you bother to enforce them. Thanks for listening and sharing and hope we all do better tomorrow. Cheers,

Ep 150The Everyday Sniper Episode 149 Ssgt Keenan of the US Army Interview

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 149 Ssgt Keenan of the US Army Interview Special Interview today with Ssgt Keenan of the US Army. A fan of the Everyday Sniper, he reached out and spoke to Mike at MHSA and the rest is recorded. We cover some of the modern differences between competing and being an active duty Sniper. This is really a unique interview that gives you a microscopic look at the differences between the military and civilian shooter. The crossover is real, how it materialize is really the only difference. I really appreciate the Army gave us the clearance to discuss the topics we discussed. It's not an officially sanctioned discussion but we did clear it. We want to honor our warfighters and there is a no bigger honor than having the ability to talk to active duty soldiers. Thanks to Ruben Keenan for taking his Sunday morning off to call into the podcast. Thanks to all the listeners, all over the world, and thanks to Mike from MHSA for the pancakes from Reo this morning. Don't forget to comment and share, you can also follow us in the Snipers Hide forum.

The Everyday Sniper Episode 148 Site Hack, Desert Tech, MHSA What a week from hell, on Tuesday morning the main page of the Sniper's Hide website was hacked. So if you see the home page of the website looking goofy, we know we are working on it. Also, we discuss: Desert HTi Rifles in both .50 cal and 375CT Vudoo .22 Stock Stuff MHSA Barreled Actions Classes taking place across the country Thanks for listening thanks for sharing, and definitely keep the comments flowing. E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 143 House Cleaning Never fails you try to get into a groove and the phone blows up, or the dog wants to go out. I just can't win this week with getting started. Lots of house cleaning in this episode, no focus, distracted, not very precision rifle worthy. But most of this stuff had to be said to clean it off my plate. Ep 143The Everyday Sniper Episode 142 Rifles Only After Action Plus Bonus

E

The Everyday Sniper Episode 142 Rifles Only After Action Plus Bonus Back from Rifles Only and I wanted to talk about my worst performance in a match ever. There is a lot to be learned from making every mistake possible. I want to give a Shout Out to Jacob and Lisa for hosting an awesome event. South Texas is just a fun, fun match. They have this competition down like a Swiss watch. I really enjoyed what the NRL did from a Series Standpoint. They made sure the event was a success, the shooter was supported, and that they were there to support the series. They are doing things right. There is a lot to be learned when subjecting yourself to other people's rules. Thanks for listening, thanks for sharing, and don't forget to comment.

The Everyday Sniper Episode 140 Jacob Bynum Interview I am down at Rifles Only to shoot the Brawl so I was able to sit down with Jacob for a little back and forth. Still, this turned out excellent and we were able to cover much of the same ground. Thanks to Jacob Bynum from Rifles Only for doing the interview, twice and thanks to all the listeners for sticking with us. Don't forget to comment and share
