Michelle M. Jacob is a member of the Yakama Nation and is Professor of Indigenous Studies and Co-Director of the Sapsik’ʷałá Program in the Department of Education Studies at the University of Oregon (UO). She also serves as Affiliated Faculty in the Department of Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies and in the Environmental Studies Program. Michelle engages in scholarly and activist work that seeks to understand and work toward a holistic sense of health and well-being within Indigenous communities and among allies who wish to engage in decolonization. Michelle has published six books and has numerous articles published in social science, education, and health science research journals, and grants from the U.S. Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Science Foundation. Dennisha Murff is an administrator, educator, writer, adjunct professor, consultant, and relentless advocate for equitable educational opportunities for all. Throughout her education career, she has worked hard to incorporate equity, social justice, and culturally responsive practices into her work. Dr. Murff is also the founder of Murff Consulting Group, LLC, an educational consulting group focused on cultivating the greatness within each scholar through the Education Empowerment Movement. Dr. Murff believes education is the great equalizer. This can only take place when students are provided with a diverse school setting where high expectations are the foundation for learning. This learning environment must include adults who are willing to challenge the status-quo to give students the learning opportunities they deserve. A product of Elkhart Community Schools in Elkhart, IN, Dr. Murff completed her undergraduate work at Ball State University where she earned a dual major in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. After graduation, she chose to immediately begin her teaching career. Her lifelong goal of teaching children brought her great joy! Within a couple of years, she decided to attend Indiana Wesleyan University to earn her Master’s degree in Education. Dr. Murff had been encouraged to obtain her administrative license, but she felt it wasn’t the right path for her and desired to continue teaching in the classroom. Nonetheless, leadership opportunities surfaced making it clear Dr. Murff’s calling was in administration. She believed she could impact the teaching and learning environment for students and staff members on a larger scale. With that decision in mind, Dr. Murff returned to school and received her administrative licensure from Indiana University. Dr. Murff obtained her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Purdue University in 2017. Her dissertation focused on the power of culturally responsive pedagogy to increase student learning outcomes for African American male students. In 2020, Dr. Murff published her first book, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy: Promising Practices for African American Male Students. As Dr. Murff began her teaching journey, her eyes were opened to the variations in equitable access to learning opportunities in the school setting. Once she moved into administration, the disparities were glaring not only in school buildings but across school districts. As Dr. Murff continued to push towards equitable opportunities, she began to heavily focus on culturally responsive practices in the school setting. Her passion for increasing student learning outcomes for all students was evident from her first day of teaching. This passion continues to drive the work Dr. Murff does at the building and district level. Dr. Murff has over 21 years of experience in education. She feels honored to have spent the majority of her educational career in one school district, which is located in a large metropolitan city. She is currently in her 14th year as an elementary school principal. She has also served as an assistant principal and elementary school teacher. Dr. Murff and her husband, Darrell Murff, are the proud parents of three amazing children, McKenzie, Lincoln, and Averi. She strongly believes her most important role in life is being their mother. Kike Ojo-Thompson is renowned as one of Canada’s leading experts on equity, diversity, and inclusion. She sees her work in education as a contribution to the fight for social justice to provide every student regardless of zip code a quality education.Prior to becoming a teacher, Tierraney, graduated from Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia with a B.A. in Economics and Organizational Management and a minor in Education. Karen Lindsey, Ph.D. is a teacher, learner, leadership consultant, executive career coach, and keynote speaker. She is called “Dr. K” by many students and has 20 years of corporate communication, higher education, media relations, and business marketing experience. Prior to her current role as a Visiting Lecturer in the Bob Schieffer College of Communication-Department of Strategic Communication at Texas Christian University (TCU), Karen served as the Associate Director of the TCU Center for Career and Professional Development. She is a Wisconsin native who moved to Texas five years ago to become Vice President of the education sector at Edelman PR in Dallas, after having served as an Associate Vice President at Mississippi College. She has led teams and served as a thought leadership consultant to corporate executives, university presidents, and non-profit leaders across the United States. She was a contracted consultant on behalf of the U.S. Army-Department of Defense and implemented long-term strategic communication projects in Washington, D.C., and Wiesbaden, Germany. During her corporate career, Karen navigated the advertising, marketing, public relations and media worlds in leadership positions with the Chicago Tribune, U.S. Bank, WE Energies, and Northwestern Mutual. In 2015, she was a featured TEDx speaker and in 2020, she was selected to present at South by Southwest (SXSW). She has written numerous articles for blogs, business journals, and fitness publications. She is a frequent emcee, podcast guest, corporate workshop facilitator, and motivational speaker on the topics of Authentic Leadership, Leadership Wellness, Reputation Management, and Strategic Brand Communication. She believes in the importance of having a fit mind, body, career, and spirit. She is a nationally certified StrengthsQuest and Myers-Briggs coach, and a certified group fitness instructor, who still teaches fitness classes in Texas. She has run the Chicago Marathon twice and to date has completed 16 half marathons in various states. She is a woman of faith who enjoys stimulating conversations, iced coffee, and international travel. Karen has been a leader in both corporate and higher education environments offering a unique perspective. Using her doctoral research as a foundation, Karen is planning to write a book about workplace politics and the experiences of Black women leaders at universities and in corporations. She cares deeply about intentionally helping college students, career changers, and business/academic leaders gain knowledge that helps them normalize diverse perspectives and become the most authentic versions of themselves in-person and online. Karen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with an emphasis on Public Relations from the University of Wisconsin, a Master’s degree in Corporate Communication from Mississippi College, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration with a focus on Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University. Her research interests center on the narratives of women of color in leadership and influences on the formation of their leadership identities in person and on social media.
