Hi, I'm Dr. Sam Fecich and I am here to tell you that teaching doesn't begin when you walk across the stage at graduation, but instead teaching begins during your first college class at 8:00 AM. I like to think of myself as a "Game Changer" (KTI 2017) in the field of higher education and educational technology. I am a professor at Grove City College, where I teach undergraduate pre-service education majors about the beauties of educational technology. I enjoy taking preservice teachers to educational workshops, events, and conferences to attend and present. It is a great way to network and build your professional learning community. I earned my Ph.D. from Penn State in Learning, Design, and Technology. But before my travels to PSU, I taught students with special needs for four years. I taught for two years as a teacher for students who were diagnosed with multiple disabilities and for two years as a technology integration teacher. My expertise is in assistive technology, specifically in augmented and alternative communication. I have experience consulting, evaluating, and training students, parents, teachers, and other professionals regarding AT and AAC devices. I enjoy going to flea markets, collecting pinball machines (my husband fixes them and I play them), baking (I make an awesome chocolate truffle), working out, and spending time with my family. My career began in the historic all-black catholic school, St. Francis Xavier School in Miami. In California, I worked with ELLs in a public school continuing my education at Cal State Bakersfieldearning my California Teaching Credentials including classroom management and Guided Language Acquisition Design AKA GLAD strategies. In 2009, I attended MountSt. Mary’s College- Cleared California Teaching Credentials with a focus in technology and social-emotional learning. I also served as a committee member for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.By 2011, I moved to New York, teaching in a Charter School with opportunities to advocate for children. By 2012, I earned my Master’s degree in Administration at St. John’s University, and an extension in Bilingual Education at Queens College. Today, I am a 6th-grade bilingual teacher in Brentwood School District, a district-wide committee member of the Instructional Rounds team introduced by Harvard University, and a hand-selected participant for the NY State Next Generation Learning Standards Alignment Educator Review panel.Throughout my years as an educator, I have always treated and advocated for students as if they were my own. Christian Howard is a licensed professional counselor with certifications as a national board-certified psychotherapist and certified clinical mental health counselor. She is a mental health advocate and behavioral consultant originally from Los Angeles but raised in San Bernardino, California. Overcoming the odds from her environment where it was plagued by gang violence. She decided to attend Clark Atlanta University as a Psychology major postponing her dreams of being a medical doctor to understand why individuals behave the way they do after experiencing a traumatic event with the death of her high school sweetheart. After graduating from undergraduate school, she joined the U.S. Army to become a Civil Affairs non-commissioned officer. Joining the military forces to provide those in her community an outlet and resources outside of gang affiliation and leading by example that there is a pathway out generational trauma. Christian later found herself receiving a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2015 (Licensed Professional Counselor track) from Argosy University, which led to her being inducted into the Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society. Shortly thereafter starting the program she transferred to the DC campus, where she was able to work under Mayor Vincent Gray and Michelle Obama’s mission to end homelessness which affected individuals, families, and teen moms in Washington, DC area. Currently, she works at the Department of Human Services as an appointed Special Assistant to the Family Service Administration. She operates a private practice, Gracefully Fulfilled Counseling and Coaching Services transforming individuals and families through neuroplasticity. She owns CL Enterprise, LLC a company geared to transform marginalized communities domestically and internationally by applying 14 years of experience she has working in underserved communities using culturally competent best practices from an indigenous perspective.
