INTERVIEW | ‘Let's Take the Fight to Them’: Why This Legal Group Keeps Suing Biden Administration
An organization called America First Legal has filed at least two dozen lawsuits against the Biden administration. "We need to fight for the American people, advance conservative principles, and be there to really make a difference," Gene Hamilton, vice president and legal counsel for America First Legal, says. Hamilton served as counselor to the attorney general at the Justice Department during the Trump administration and he recalls growing weary of various leftist groups filing lawsuits to block President Donald Trump's agenda. “It's a little bit of an exaggeration …," Hamilton says, "but it's almost close to the truth that every time we'd have a press conference, there would be some organization that would file a lawsuit representing somebody to get us enjoined before we could even get done with the press conference to get things off the ground." When President Joe Biden came to office in January 2021, Hamilton and Stephen Miller, who was a senior advisor in the Trump administration, decided to “do what they do.” “Let's take the fight to them,” Hamilton says of America First Legal’s approach to fighting the policies of the Left. “Let's be equipped and ready to bring the battles to the Left, wherever it may be, whether that's in the government, whether that's in big business, big education, wherever.” Hamilton joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss how America First Legal is fighting the Biden administration'seffort to redefine sex. He also explains how the legal group is looking into Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s prosecution of Trump. INTERVIEW | Josh Hawley Breaks Down Why Ideological Left Targets Masculinity
Sen. Josh Hawley believes that masculine, strong, virtuous men are needed more than ever in today’s society. That’s part of the reason that the Missouri Republican wrote his new book, “Manhood: The Masculine Virtues America Needs,” the senator said in an interview with The Daily Signal. “The masculine virtues are the virtues of a husband and a father, of a warrior and a builder, of a priest and a king,” Hawley explained, citing the chapters included in his book. “I really wrote the book for my boys. I’ve got two little boys at home, who are 10 and 8. I say ‘little’; I mean, they’re getting older now, but they’re 10 and 8. And I’ve got a baby girl.” The premise is simple, the senator said: “America needs strong men. It needs good men, and we should call men to be those things.” Corporate media, the entertainment industry, and leftist ideologues are all pushing the same message to young men, Hawley said—namely, that if you are a man, you are “toxic.” “To be a man is to somehow, in and of itself, to contribute to the systemic injustice of America, so-called,” he said. “And I think this message is relentlessly driven at men today.” Colorado Wants to Force Her To Create LGBTQ Wedding Websites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfk1q-EXNDE Hosted on Acast. INTERVIEW | White House Has 'Weaponized' ESG Movement, State Financial Officers Foundation CEO Says
The chief executive officer of the State Financial Officers Foundation says "we never really saw the [environmental, social, and governance] movement weaponized in a way that this White House and administration [have] weaponized it." "Certainly, fund managers like BlackRock, State Street, Vanguard have weaponized it, and so it's really just been in the last two years that we've seen them use funds, like pension retirement funds, in a way that leverages those dollars to push these social agendas," Derek Kreifels says of the so-called ESG movement. "And so, our simple premise and argument has been, if most Americans knew how their pension fund dollars were being invested, they would probably be appalled and shocked," Kreifels says. "And so, we launched a campaign called 'Our Money, Our Values.'" Kreifels adds: It's available at our website OurMoneyOurValues.com, where we're trying to educate Main Street America on the dangers of ESG investing and what they can do specifically at the retail level to go to their neighborhood financial adviser and ask certain questions about the kind of fund managers that are managing their dollars and how to change that if there are companies that are managing dollars that they don't necessarily agree with their actions.Kreifels joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to further discuss environmental, social, and governance policies, some of the ways that the State Financial Officers Foundation is helping states navigate the ESG issues and what resources are available to them, and what the media are missing in its coverage of ESG. INTERVIEW | Blackburn Bill Offers Parents ‘Toolbox’ Needed ‘to Help Monitor’ What Kids See Online
A bipartisan bill “would give parents that toolbox that they need to help monitor what their children are seeing in the virtual space,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn says. “Kids are being exposed to things in the virtual space that we would never expose them to in the physical space, so it’s important for parents to have that toolbox, and it’s important to put the responsibility on these social mediaplatforms,” says Blackburn, R-Tenn., who on May 2 reintroduced the Kids Online Safety Act with Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn. “That is what this legislation does,” Blackburn says. “It requires these platforms to open up those algorithms and make them available not only to parents, but also to researchers, so that there can be a monitoring of the harms that children are exposed to.” The legislation was initially introduced in February 2022 and unanimously passed the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee in July, according to the Tennessee senator’s office. However, “the clock ran out before we got it off the floor,” Blackburn says. Blackburn joins today’s episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the legislation and how its requirements would be implemented. She also discusses the end of the public health measure known as Title 42, and how that will affect illegal immigration. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. INTERVIEW | Is My Money Safe? Financial Expert Explains Recent Bank Failures, Questions Activity of JPMorgan Chase
Americans needn’t worry about the safety of their money at the bank, financial and investment expert David Bahnsen says. Three large American banks have collapsed since the beginning of the year, but “there’s almost nothing in common at all with these three banks closing, relative to all the 2008 closings,” says Bahnsen, founder and chief investment officer of the wealth management company The Bahnsen Group. When banks fail, as they did in 2008, it’s usually because of “people not paying back something they owe,” Bahnsen says, adding that’s not the case with the recent bank failures. Bahnsen, whose company manages more than $4 billion in client assets, says Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank, and First Republic Bank were “totally ill-prepared for the idea of interest rates flying higher, as they have.” Bahnsen joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain the effect the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate hikes have had on America’s banks and what it means for the financial health of the country. Bahnsen also explains why he, as a JPMorgan Chase shareholder, has proposed a resolution calling on the bank to investigate whether it is discriminating against clients because of their religious or political views. INTERVIEW | What to Know About End of Title 42 and Biden's New Asylum Rule
An estimated 13,000 illegal aliens are expected to cross America’s southern border every day beginning Thursday. That’s more than double the daily average in March. This expected spike in the number of migrants crossing the border illegally is the direct result of the end of Title 42, a public health measure set in place under the Trump administration during the COVID-19 pandemic. Title 42 has allowed Border Patrol to quickly expel some illegal aliens from the country. Without the measure, Border Patrol has little power under the policies of the Biden administration to turn illegal aliens away. With illegal alien encounters expected to rise with the end of Title 42, the Biden administration has announced a new asylum rule effective once Title 42 expires. The new rule requires illegal aliens to first seek asylum in another country they travel through and be denied before they seek asylum in the U.S. “If individuals do not access their lawful pathways, the pathways that we have made available to them, they will face a rebuttable presumption, but a presumption of ineligibility,” DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said of the new rule during a press conference Wednesday. Mayorkas’ reference to “lawful pathways” includes use of the CBP One mobile app, which allows illegal aliens to schedule an appointment at a port of entry to seek asylum. But Biden’s new rule is already drawing criticism. “The asylum rule simply directs everyone towards using the made-up, illegal mass parole programs that the Biden Administration erroneously labels 'lawful pathways' by using the CBP One mobile app to get a parole appointment at an interior airport,” Simon Hankinson, a senior research fellow in The Heritage Foundation’s Border Security and Immigration Center, told The Daily Signal. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Daily Signal.) “In the long run,” Hankinson continued, “this won’t discourage anyone. Those who can use the parole app process will, those who can’t will just come anyway and cross illegally. The best we can hope for is that the new asylum rule reduces flows about as much as Title 42 did, and things remain status quo – a poorly managed disaster.” Lora Ries, director of the Border Security and Immigration Center at The Heritage Foundation, joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain what the end of Title 42 means for the security of America’s border, and why Biden’s new asylum rule won’t solve the current crisis. INTERVIEW | Sen. Rick Scott: If America Defaults on Debt, ‘It Will Be 100% Joe Biden’s Responsibility'
The clock is ticking on America’s debt, and Republicans lawmakers are calling on President Joe Biden to agree to their plan to raise the debt ceiling and rein in government spending. Under the leadership of Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., House Republicans issued a plan to raise the debt ceiling by $1.5 trillion, or until the end of March 2024, whichever comes first, provided that Congress and the president agree to significant cuts in government spending. Biden, however, has continued to argue that Congress should raise the debt ceiling without conditions. “If we default on our debt, it will be 100% Joe Biden’s responsibility,” Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., says, adding that it is the president’s job to “figure out how to raise the debt ceiling.” Biden’s other option, Scott says, is to “figure out how to not have to raise the debt ceiling by living within our means.” The U.S. already has hit the debt limit of $31.4 trillion, but the Treasury Department is using “extraordinary measures” to prevent defaulting on loans to the government. The Treasury Department says lawmakers have to act to raise the debt ceiling by the beginning of June to prevent risk of default. Scott joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain why Republicans and Democrats are so divided in the debt ceiling debate and what will happen if Congress can’t reach an agreement with the president. Also on today’s show, Scott talks about his recent trip to the southern border and what’s going to happen when Title 42 expires as scheduled Thursday. Enjoy the show! INTERVIEW | What We Know About Unaccompanied Children Arriving at Southern Border
A 10-year-old girl from Honduras arrived at the southern border unaccompanied by adults. She told Sheena Rodriguez that she hoped to stay in America, and wanted to “color and get to know my father.” The Honduras girl is like so many other unaccompanied alien children, says Rodriguez, founder and president of Alliance for a Safe Texas. These kids arrive at the border with “pieces of paper with handwritten numbers on it," she says, "and these children are going to people that they have never even spoken to." About 85,000 migrant children have entered the U.S. and been placed with a sponsor, but the federal U.S. government now doesn't know the children's location or status. Through her work at Alliance for a Safe Texas, Rodriguez seeks to raise awareness about how the border crisis has led to the exploitation of children, and to offer solutions to lawmakers who are trying to fix policies that led to the current situation. Rodriguez’s desire to find out what was really going on at the southern border began about three years ago. She says she needed to see the situation for herself, so she planned a trip. Rodriguez left her home in North Texas and arrived around midnight in Laredo, about 160 miles south of San Antonio on the Mexican border. “We encountered about 60 different men, all young men, to the one Border Patrol agent,” Rodriguez says, adding: “And he looked at me, didn't know me from anywhere, and said, ‘I need help. We're being invaded.’" At that moment, Rodriguez says she committed to doing something to address the border crisis. Since that first trip, Rodriguez says, she has taken nearly three dozen trips to the border and spoken with many illegal aliens, including unaccompanied migrant children. Rodriguez joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to share stories of these unaccompanied children and explain what we know about how minors are arriving alone at the border. Enjoy the show! TOP NEWS | WHO Says COVID-19 Pandemic is Over, April Jobs Report, Protests Continue Outside Justices Homes | May 5

The U.S. economy added 253,000 jobs in April while the unemployment rate dropped to 3.4%, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. A 7th grade student is not backing down after receiving pushback for wearing a t-shirt that said “There are only two genders.” More than a year after the leaked opinion of the Dobbs decision showed Roe v. INTERVIEW | Pro-Life Pediatrician Reveals Full Story Behind Cyberattack
The American College of Pediatricians scored a major victory last month when a federal judge ruled in its favor and halted the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of mifepristone, a drug used in chemical abortions. Just weeks later, the organization endured a cyberattack carried out by hackers intending to cause major damage. As if that wasn’t enough, news of the hack was then leaked to a hostile journalist in a fleeting attempt to damage the organization’s reputation. Since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year, pro-life institutions and individuals have faced sustained attacks. The militant group Jane’s Revenge vandalized pregnancy resource centers, the FBI arrested a pro-life father in Pennsylvania, and a deranged pro-abortion man plotted an assassination attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh. These unrelenting attacks show no sign of abating. Look no further than the latest assault on the American College of Pediatricians, also known as ACPeds. Dr. Jill Simons, executive director of the American College of Pediatricians, joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to explain what happened and why she’s not backing down from her mission to defend life and protect the most vulnerable in our society. INTERVIEW | 'Nation's Report Card' Shows Lowest Scores Ever Recorded. This Is How We Got Here
The test results are in, and America’s children are failing history and civics. According to the “Nation's Report Card,” just 13% of eighth graders are proficient in U.S. history, and only 22% are proficient in civics. Every four years, the National Assessment of Educational Progress captures how well America's students are performing in major subjects. The latest scores, released this week, are “the lowest numbers ever recorded for the NAEP scores in civics and in history over the past 25 years,” says Adam Kissel, a visiting fellow in higher education reform at The Heritage Foundation. Kissel says there is no doubt that school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic played a role in the learning loss. As for the drop in proficiency in history and civics, he says, "I would guess that after the Black Lives Matter movement got popular in 2020, a lot of teachers changed their curriculum around and taught less of the basics and more activism-type topics, and that might have been a factor as well.” In response to the troublingly low test scores, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona issued a written statement. “We need to provide every student with rich opportunities to learn about America’s history and understand the U.S. Constitution and how our system of government works,” Cardona said. He added: “Banning history books and censoring educators from teaching these important subjects does our students a disservice and will move America in the wrong direction.” “He's wrong on both of those points,” Kissel says of President Joe Biden's education secretary. “His solution is really the opposite of what schools need to do.” Kissel joins this episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain why America’s kids are floundering in history and civics classes, and to offer practical solutions to repair America’s failing education system. INTERVIEW | House Republicans 'Did What They Had to Do' on Debt Ceiling, CEO Says
The U.S. may "potentially" default on its debt "as early as June 1, if Congress does not raise or suspend the debt limit before that time," Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a letter Monday to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. Alfredo Ortiz, president and chief executive officer of the nonpartisan Job Creators Network, says he's "honestly not surprised" by Yellen's letter, sent just days after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Republican-led Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023. The legislation, which McCarthy introduced on April 19, would “limit federal spending, save taxpayer dollars,” and “grow the economy.” The legislation passed 217-215 in the House, but did not get a single vote from Democrats. Given Democrats’ control of the Senate, it is unlikely the bill will pass in its current form. "Putting this now on June 1st, I think, basically, is to kind of try to force the hand of the Republicans," Ortiz says. "But quite frankly, I mean, the Republicans, from my perspective, did what they had to do." "They passed the bill. That I think showed a lot of fiscal responsibility and hard choices that we have to make, and still allowed for $1.5 trillion of the debt to be raised," he says. Ortiz joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss the debt ceiling, President Joe Biden's upcoming meeting on the issue with top Republican and Democratic congressional leaders, and why he thinks the Environmental Protection Agency "is out of control." INTERVIEW | Why Oklahoma Is Promoting School Choice, Standing Against DEI
Oklahoma is taking a lead on school choice programs and resisting far-left ideology in classrooms across the state. “It is amazing how aggressive the Biden administration is with this radical agenda towards our schools,” Ryan Walters, Oklahoma's state superintendent of public instruction, says. When he came into office, Walters says he told staffers there, “We're not doing diversity, equity, and inclusion. We're not doing that here." The leftist agenda in schools has gone well beyond DEI instruction, and now the Biden administration is considering changing the definition of sex in Title IX to include gender identity and sexual orientation, opening the door wide for biological boys and men to compete in girls and women's sports and to use their restrooms and locker rooms. “We've already submitted comment to the Biden administration and told them, 'We're suing you if you move down this road,'” Walters said. Walters joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain the ways Oklahoma is fighting against the Left’s efforts to influence the next generation in the classroom and to discuss the state’s aggressive action to implement school choice programs. INTERVIEW | Rep. Dan Bishop Sounds Off on Hunter Biden Laptop Cover-Up Revelation
Michael Morell, former deputy director of the CIA, testified that Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who at the time was a senior adviser to the Biden campaign, "played a role in the inception" of the Oct. 19, 2020, letter from 51 former intelligence officials suggesting that "the Hunter Biden laptop was part of a Russian disinformation campaign," Fox News reported. "It was requested by Antony Blinken, who was working for the Biden campaign, and they were too pleased to do it. So, Michael Morell went out and carried on the effort, and 51 intel agents, or former intel policymakers, were in on it," Rep. Dan Bishop, R-N.C., says. "And of course they hedged their language there, but they gave rise into the media coverage, which was, it was 'Russian disinformation.’" "It took way past the election, and year and a half or whatever, for media outlets ultimately to acknowledge what it was," the North Carolina lawmaker says. The October letter was co-signed by more than four dozen former intelligence officials, among them Jim Clapper, former director of national intelligence; Leon Panetta and John Brennan, former directors of the CIA; Rick Ledgett, former deputy director of the National Security Agency; and Morell. INTERVIEW | Rep. Chip Roy's Prescription to Secure Border: Use Power of Purse to ‘Bring President to His Knees’
If America’s southern border is to be secured, Congress must “use the power of the purse to bring the president to his knees and [make him] sit at the table,” Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, says. President Joe Biden's border policies are enriching China and harming the American people, Roy argues. “The fact of the matter is we know that 90% of the precursors or the finished product fentanyl is coming from China,” Roy says, adding that Biden’s border policies are serving China “because they make money on it [and by] giving China a foothold in Mexico.” Congress should impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and hold him accountable for the crisis at the southern border, Roy says. “He lied to us,” Roy says of Mayorkas. “We know that he knew full well that he didn't have operational control [of the border] when he said he did.” Roy joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain the case for impeaching Mayorkas and what Republicans are doing to secure the border. INTERVIEW | Texas AG Ken Paxton Explains How Biden Has Made Mexican Cartels ‘Very Wealthy’
Biden administration officials “want the cartels to maximize profits,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton contends. President Joe Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have created “opportunities for the cartels to expand their network, not just in Mexico or Central America, but across our country,” Paxton, a Republican, says. Since Biden took office, more than 5 million illegal aliens have been encountered at the southern border. Already this fiscal year, which began Oct. 1, more than 1.2 million illegal aliens have been encountered at the border. Given the current situation on the border, Mayorkas should “absolutely” be impeached, Paxton says.
