INTERVIEW | Rep. Dan Bishop Sounds Off on Hunter Biden Laptop Cover-Up Revelation
Michael Morell, former deputy director of the CIA, testified that Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who at the time was a senior adviser to the Biden campaign, "played a role in the inception" of the Oct. 19, 2020, letter from 51 former intelligence officials suggesting that "the Hunter Biden laptop was part of a Russian disinformation campaign," Fox News reported. "It was requested by Antony Blinken, who was working for the Biden campaign, and they were too pleased to do it. So, Michael Morell went out and carried on the effort, and 51 intel agents, or former intel policymakers, were in on it," Rep. Dan Bishop, R-N.C., says. "And of course they hedged their language there, but they gave rise into the media coverage, which was, it was 'Russian disinformation.’" "It took way past the election, and year and a half or whatever, for media outlets ultimately to acknowledge what it was," the North Carolina lawmaker says. The October letter was co-signed by more than four dozen former intelligence officials, among them Jim Clapper, former director of national intelligence; Leon Panetta and John Brennan, former directors of the CIA; Rick Ledgett, former deputy director of the National Security Agency; and Morell. "What happens now? Well, there are a couple other details there that are of considerable interest to the committee that we're still pursuing. I'll keep those under my hat for the moment," Bishop says. Bishop joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to also discuss an IRS whistleblower's allegations relating to Hunter Biden, the long-term impact of the southern border crisis and what's causing the uptick in illegal immigrant crossings, and the Republicans' proposed Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023 on the debt ceiling. INTERVIEW | Rep. Chip Roy's Prescription to Secure Border: Use Power of Purse to ‘Bring President to His Knees’
If America’s southern border is to be secured, Congress must “use the power of the purse to bring the president to his knees and [make him] sit at the table,” Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, says. President Joe Biden's border policies are enriching China and harming the American people, Roy argues. “The fact of the matter is we know that 90% of the precursors or the finished product fentanyl is coming from China,” Roy says, adding that Biden’s border policies are serving China “because they make money on it [and by] giving China a foothold in Mexico.” Congress should impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and hold him accountable for the crisis at the southern border, Roy says. “He lied to us,” Roy says of Mayorkas. “We know that he knew full well that he didn't have operational control [of the border] when he said he did.” Roy joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain the case for impeaching Mayorkas and what Republicans are doing to secure the border. INTERVIEW | Texas AG Ken Paxton Explains How Biden Has Made Mexican Cartels ‘Very Wealthy’
Biden administration officials “want the cartels to maximize profits,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton contends. President Joe Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have created “opportunities for the cartels to expand their network, not just in Mexico or Central America, but across our country,” Paxton, a Republican, says. Since Biden took office, more than 5 million illegal aliens have been encountered at the southern border. Already this fiscal year, which began Oct. 1, more than 1.2 million illegal aliens have been encountered at the border. Given the current situation on the border, Mayorkas should “absolutely” be impeached, Paxton says. Mayorkas “is a pathetic leader,” the Texas attorney general says, adding, that the homeland security chief “is there to destroy our immigration system. And he mocks us every day when he lies to us and says there's no problem, that he's doing his job.” Paxton joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the more than a dozen border crisis-related lawsuits his office has filed against the Biden administration and what will happen after Title 42, a public health measure that was put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, is lifted. INTERVIEW | What Real Challenges Are for Pro-Life Movement in Post-Roe v. Wade America
The fight to protect life is, in some ways, even more challenging today than it was a year ago, Brian Westbrook says. The Supreme Court’s June 2022 ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade, was a major victory for life, according to Westbrook, founder and executive director of the national sidewalk counseling organization Coalition Life. But, he adds, "there's a lot of work that needs to be done.” “Our opponents are not going away, and we need to be vigilant in fighting back and ensuring that we can protect mothers and protect children,” Westbrook says. In the state of Illinois, for example, there's a bill being pushed by pro-abortion advocates that could “shut down the 90 different [varieties] of pregnancy centers and maternity homes in Illinois,” he says. In an effort to encourage and mobilize the pro-life movement, Coalition Life is inviting Americans to St. Louis on April 29 for a march to support women and be a voice for the unborn. Westbrook joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the opposition the pro-life movement is currently facing and why sidewalk counseling remains such a powerful tool in serving women facing a crisis pregnancy. Since taking office in January, Bailey has taken steps to hold the far Left and the Biden administration accountable. In addition to the investigation into the gender clinic, Bailey has taken legal action against the Biden administration, arguing it engaged in suppression of free speech in collaboration with large social media companies. INTERVIEW: How Is 'Liberal Woke Takeover' Affecting Journalism?
Amber Athey, author of the newly released book "The Snowflakes' Revolt: How Woke Millennials Hijacked American Media," is weighing in on how the "liberal woke takeover" is affecting journalism and journalistic standards. "The way that this strain of progressivism approaches journalism is completely divorced from what we traditionally understand as journalistic ethics and standards," said Athey, Washington editor for the Spectator. "These individuals believe that the media is just another platform for which they can advance political activism, and they've rewritten the rules of journalism to reflect that," says Athey, who previously covered the White House for The Daily Caller and hosts a weekly radio show, "Unfit to Print," on WCBM-680 in Baltimore. "So, it's no longer about objectively trying to find the facts and get somewhere close to the truth and presenting facts to the reader so they can make their own decisions." Athey adds: It's now about fighting on behalf of the downtrodden, or "speaking truth to power," or making sure that you are not causing offense to marginalized groups.Athey joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss some examples of this liberal woke takeover of the media that she’s referring to, whether she thinks this liberal takeover was inevitable or could have been prevented, and how conservatives can work to counter the influence of these corporate media outlets. INTERVIEW | Will Supreme Court Hear Abortion Pill Case? Plaintiffs' Attorney Weighs In
On Good Friday, a federal judge in Texas handed down a potentially historic abortion ruling. The case at hand revolves around the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the abortion pill mifepristone. In 2000, the FDA approved the use of mifepristone to be used along with the drug misoprostol to terminate a pregnancy. But some medical experts have argued the FDA's approval was rushed and unlawful. In 2022, a group of pro-life medical professionals and an organization represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian legal organization, filed a lawsuit against the FDA arguing that it had improperly approved the abortion pill, and federal Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk for the Northern District of Texas agreed. “The Court does not second-guess FDA’s decision-making lightly,” Kacsmaryk wrote in his ruling. “But here, FDA acquiesced on its legitimate safety concerns—in violation of its statutory duty—based on plainly unsound reasoning and studies that did not support its conclusions.” Denise Harle, Alliance Defending Freedom senior counsel, joins the show today to discuss what the ruling means and the likelihood of the case ultimately rising to the Supreme Court. Harle also breaks down a ruling the same day by a judge in Washington state in favor of continued access to the abortion pill. Enjoy the show. INTERVIEW | Justice Comes to Call on Jane's Revenge Following Attacks on Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers
The attorney general of Florida, together with a religious liberty legal group, is suing Jane’s Revenge for targeting and attacking pro-life pregnancy resource centers. “If you use violence to injure or intimidate … pregnancy care centers across the country, you will be held accountable,” says Jeremy Dys, special counsel for litigation and communications at First Liberty. First Liberty has joined a lawsuit filed by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody against Caleb Freestone and Amber Smith-Stewart. According to Moody, Freestone and Smith-Stewart are members of the far-left group Antifa and the radical pro-abortion group Jane’s Revenge. The Plano, Texas-based national legal group and Moody contend that Freestone and Smith-Stewart violated the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, accused of vandalizing three Florida pregnancy help centers after the leak last May of the draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade on abortion in late June. “We believe that violence is never a lawful response to political disagreement,” Dys says, adding that the “law compels this lawsuit to hold them accountable.” The suit is seeking $170,000 in penalties against each defendant who stands accused of vandalizing three Florida pregnancy resource centers. Dys joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain how the members of Jane’s Revenge were identified and the consequences they could face. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. INTERVIEW | Media Watchdog Group Holds Stanford Law School Accountable for Disrespecting Conservative Judge
Judge Kyle Duncan, a conservative on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, arrived on the Stanford Law School campus on March 9. He was there to deliver remarks to students at an event hosted by the campus Federalist Society group, but Duncan never had the opportunity to deliver his talk. Upon entering the lecture call, students began heckling Duncan, preventing him from speaking. Finally Tirien Steinbach, associate dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Stanford Law, stood up and took the podium. For about six minutes, she spoke to the students and to Duncan. “For many people in this law school … your advocacy, your opinions from the bench land as absolute disenfranchisement of their rights,” Steinbach said. When Duncan tried to respond, Steinbach told the judge, “Please let me finish.” Multiple students began shouting, “Let her finish” as they pounded their desks. Duncan stood by and allowed Steinbach to complete her lecture. Now, the media watchdog group Accuracy in Media is calling on Stanford Law to dismiss Steinbach. “These crybullies throw metaphorical punches all day long and they never have to take one in return, and that's where we step in," Adam Guillette, president of Accuracy in Media, says. Accuracy in Media has a mobile billboard on the Stanford campus naming the students who heckled Duncan and calling for Steinbach’s termination. The law school did issue an apology and has placed Steinbach on paid leave, but has stopped short of terminating her. “These people, who think they know it all and seek to lecture federal judges, don't even apply the basic level of common sensewhich makes sense because they don't apply the basic level of civility,” Guillette says. Guillette joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" today to explain how Accuracy in Media is advocating that Steinbach be fired. He also explains how his organization has gone undercover in public schools to expose how classrooms teach diversity, equity, and inclusion. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. INTERVIEW | Rabbi Pinchas Taylor Explains History, Power of Passover
Passover begins with a Seder meal to “remember what our ancestors went through,” Rabbi Pinchas Taylor says. “You do physical actions and experience physical tastes and motions and whatnot to … not only tell over the story, but reexperience the story as it took place,” says Taylor, the author of “Pillars of Faith” and “A Jewish Guide to the Mysterious.” Passover begins at sunset on Wednesday, and in addition to celebrating the Jews’ deliverance from the Egyptians, Taylor says Passover is also a time to reflect on how we can each leave our “own inner-Egypt.” “What are the things that are holding me back?” Taylor encourages all to ask during the week of Passover. “What is constraining me? What is limiting me in my life? And how can I make the proper steps to liberate myself? Because when a person takes that first step, God helps them along the way as well. God will split seas for those that walk courageously forward.” Taylor joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss how the Jewish community continues to celebrate Passover and the symbolism behind the traditions. INTERVIEW | What Finland Joining NATO Means for Russia, War In Ukraine, and How It Benefits America , National Security Expert Explains
Finland is joining NATO, and Victoria Coates says Russia is less than pleased. INTERVIEW | Energy Expert Stresses Need for More Pipelines After Train Derailment
An energy expert says the Feb. 3 train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, underscores the need for more pipelines to transport potentially hazardous substances. "This recent rail accident in East Palestine in Ohio has shown us that we need more pipelines to carry these potential dangerous chemicals, rather than using road and rail," says Diana Furchtgott-Roth, director of the Center for Energy, Climate, and Environment at The Heritage Foundation. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) "Because with pipelines, the container stays still and the product moves within it. And the pipelines are often buried in the ground," Furchtgott-Roth says. "So, they're out of the way of other traffic, pedestrians, anyone like that, and the potential damage is very, very low." Furchtgott-Roth added: With rail and truck, these substances are going through people's communities, and they are generally very safe, but occasionally accidents do happen. But pipelines are the safest way of transporting oil and natural gas.Furchtgott-Roth joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss Thursday's passage of HR 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, in the House of Representatives and her thoughts on President Joe Biden’s anticipated veto of the bill. INTERVIEW | Biden Earns an ‘F’ on Energy Policies, Lawmaker Says as House OKs GOP Bill to Lower Costs
When it comes to President Joe Biden’s energy policies, he has earned “an F,” says Rep. Matt Rosendale, R-Mont. The vote was 225-204 with four Democrats joining the Republican majority and one GOP member voting against it, according to CBS News. INTERVIEW | Asian Studies Expert Suggests Ways to Diminish China’s Threat to Taiwan
A leading Asian studies expert is weighing in on how the U.S. can diminish the threat China poses to Taiwan, even as tensions between the two countries remain high. "I think the first thing we need to do is clear a backlog of arms sales to Taiwan. We sell Taiwan advanced military hardware, and a number of important platforms that the Taiwanese have purchased have been backlogged, and this has been going on for years now," says Jeff Smith, director of The Heritage Foundation's Asian Studies Center. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) "The second thing we need to do, I think, is help the Taiwanese to develop even better deterrence strategies and denial strategies and acquisitions," Smith says. "What can we do? What are the most effective military platforms that Taiwan could purchase and use in order to deny China if it decides to launch an invasion or at least to hold out long enough for the cavalry?" It's widely though that the U.S.—and possibly others, including Australia and Japan—would intervene in the event of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. Smith joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss how the Chinese government has infiltrated our lives; The Heritage Foundation's newly released report "Winning the New Cold War: A Plan for Countering China”; and the U.S. fentanyl crisis. INTERVIEW | What You Need to Know About Israeli Protests
With hundreds of thousands of Israelis taking to the streets in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem over reforms to the judicial system proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, what are Americans to make of it? "Well, basically, what Netanyahu is proposing is to make the appointments of the judges less political and their powers less sweeping. The Supreme Court has been a very sort of left-leaning element in the Israeli government," says Victoria Coates, senior research fellow in international affairs and national security with the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at The Heritage Foundation. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) "And so, it's a reform that a number of Israelis support, but making it somewhat more controversial is the fact that the prime minister himself is under investigation for various charges of corruption and bribery," Coates says. "And so, there is a perception—which I personally don't think is true—but that there's a broad public perception that he is trying to manipulate the courts for his own legal gain." Coates further discussed the significance of the protests. "I think it's really remarkable, and the estimates are as many as 700,000 people were out in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem last night, and that's a country of 9 million people," Coates says. "So, you're coming up on 10% of the country is participating in this. I think it certainly demonstrates how passionately Israelis feel about their politics and about their country, and the degree to which they feel participant in this process." Coates joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss why Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, whether the protests could have larger ramifications for Israel and other Middle Eastern countries, and what the response has been like from the Biden administration.
