364 An Assessment that Speaks to Calling

In this podcast episode Brian Miller, the Executive Director of Coach Approach Ministries (CAM), chats with Brandon Kelly, the Co-Director of 5Q. They discuss the APEST assessment, which is based on the five callings mentioned in Ephesians 4: apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers. This assessment helps individuals and organizations raise their level of intelligence in these areas. Brandon emphasizes the importance of all five callings working together and highlights the unique characteristics and roles of each calling. They also discuss calling, distinguishing it from spiritual gifts and emphasizing the need to live in reflection of one's calling rather than conforming to others' expectations. The conversation touches on practical applications and the importance of appreciating and applying one's calling in a mature and discerning manner. https://www.5qcentral.com

The last one is Trauma is the new reality. Excerpt Mike Glenn's Letter: For the Pastor Who Follows Me Trauma is the new reality. For years we've been discussing the breakdown of the nuclear family without fully understanding the long-term ramifications. Now, those ramifications are being lived out in front of us. Few people you know, especially young adults, are stepping into their futures with a solid base for their lives. People get married hoping their partner will fix them. Couples have children hoping the child will make their marriage complete. Most people are walking around with a giant hole in their heart waiting for someone to validate their existence. This means that when we're dealing with people, the church isn't dealing with a clean slate. There's a lifetime of pain to deal with before any healing and growth can begin.

Working as a coach with Wheaton Billy Graham School of Evangelism, Kyle has learned three key lessons in his coaching: Focus more on the person than the activity Nail down the commitment Bring more challenge When it comes to reordering a client's values, just telling them to do so doesn't change anything. 324 Using the Disturbance Model

Brian and Chad talk about the Disturbance Model that speaks of using power to influence a given cause. When a leader uses power to influence their cause, resistance will be a by-product. It is easy to demonize the resistance, but a good leader will instead learn from the resistance. Here are three ways the leader can benefit from the resistance: You are probably not as clear and convicted about your cause as you think you are. You are not comfortable with power, being in charge, or making waves. If you are experiencing mostly resistance for a long period of time, you are probably not good at this or have a weak cause.
