PEARL, Miss. (WLBT) - Over a dozen residents raised their concerns at a city of Pearl community meeting Friday night regarding the police department hiring former Richland Police Officer Jeremy Rast, who was fired last year for making “derogatory slurs” toward a Hispanic man. Residents questioned whether he had learned from his mistakes and if residents could trust him in the line of duty. The pushback stems from an incident last year on June 2 when Rast and other officers were responding to a domestic disturbance involving a gun. Rast then had an interaction with Luis Rodriguez and others, which Rodriguez recorded. That is when Rast made comments toward Rodriguez, like, “I will look for you every shift to try and arrest you,” and even “Go back to Mexico.” These are the comments that residents brought up, questioning if they have to fear for themselves rather than trust those sworn to protect. Chief McLendon answered those questions and concerns Friday night, standing by his decision to hire Rast after careful consideration. Chief McLendon also stated that Rast will go through more training before he returns to the line of duty. The meeting then concluded with residents asking for another meeting to be set that would involve Rast so they could ask questions and raise their concerns directly with him.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Rankin County Rep. Fred Shanks has filed House Bill 1028 that would increase the penalties for statutory rape. “Essentially, if there’s a child involved, 13 or younger, and the offender is 17 or older, it’s surgical castration,” explained Shanks. It would be a new option for the judge in sentencing, and it would be in addition to their time in jail. “I’m a father, and my daughter is 13, and you know it really hit home when this came up,” noted Shanks. “I think it’s the right thing to do. It sends a strong message. And to be honest, if you know this unfortunate event ever happened to my child, the least of their worries would be this bill.” We asked more of you what you think of the proposal. “I don’t have no problem with it,” said Karlos King. “Young children, innocent, pure, I don’t think it would be a problem with it.” “I’m not opposed to it,” described Angela Jones. “I just think there needs to be some stipulation. I think if it’s a repeat pedophile, absolutely.” “That 13-year-old or under has got to live with that for the rest of their lives,” noted Gayla Book, whose daughter was raped at 13. “There’s no getting out of it. You know, there’s no 10-year limit for them on whether they get to forget about it in 10 years.” Several states have laws on the books allowing for chemical castration as a consequence of certain sex crimes. However, last year, Louisiana was the first to approve surgical castration. Rep. Shanks is hoping it will clear the committee and be brought up for a vote by the full House of Representatives. “I’d be very curious as to who would vote no on it on the House floor,” he added.

1- In the last few days (months) I've been told breaking the law is perfectly acceptable in Jackson, Mississippi as long as a couple of boxes are checked. All of these are perfect examples of why the majority of Jackson is a 3rd world hell hole. - It's acceptable to kidnap 14 year old black kids off the streets of Jackson, record yourself beating them with a pistol and post it on social media as long as they're returned home safely by dark (and of course if you claim they were involved with some carjackings, and of course as long as you're also black) - You can illegally set up a billboard along the interstate advertising BBQ for sale in the Pull-a-part parking lot at Elton Rd. because that's just another man trying to make a dollar. - It's perfectly legal to set up a BBQ restaurant in the parking lot of the junkyard without a permit from the Mississippi State Department of Health, without a permit of any king from the City of Jackson - Government, etc. I'm just trying to understand what is and what isn't legal because I might just buy a BBQ trailer (to hell with a food truck) and just start pullin up at every busy intersection and selling BBQ. Because screw all the restaurants and food trucks that have to spend tons of money, get serv-safe certified, get permitted, pass health inspections, pay taxes, etc. Why would I do any of that if I don't have to? - Circling back to a couple of months ago, there's a guy who pops up in front of ABC permit holding bars and restaurants on the weekends in downtown Jackson and has a fully operational bar in the back of his van selling mixed drinks to anybody that wants one. Again, if this is legal why in the hell would I jump through rings of F'N fire getting a liquor license from the Mississippi Alcoholic Beverage Control? You can't even set up and sell those goofy Easter and Valentines gift baskets in parking lots of opened or closed businesses in Rankin county without the cops running you off or ticketing you for operating without a permit. It's called being accountable to your permitted & legal business owners that do things the right way, Jackson is run like a F'N swap meet and it really shows. The fact I have to explain this to a bunch of smooth brained idiots is exactly why Jackson is in the condition it's in. The overwhelming majority of the citizens don't even realize what is and isn't legal. 2- LOS ANGELES FIRE STUFF This is an assistant Chief of Los Angeles Fire Department. This is DEI in action in a job it does not need to be in. LA fires are still burning. Residents have so many reasons to be angry. This is just one.

A child is abducted from the streets by a gang of urban terrorists, subjected to a brutal pistol-whipping captured in a hostage video, yet he miraculously returns home, and there's not a single mention from any news source other than mine? Whether this was staged or not is beside the point; why in the world is no one else reporting on this? If these were white children, this would dominate the news cycles at 5, 6, and 10 PM, with every major social media platform covering it extensively. Even if we assume this was "staged," the coverage wouldn't be out of sympathy but because there would be a public outcry for accountability over such an irresponsible waste of time and resources. Take, for example, last year's brawl at Shiloh Park in Brandon, where 5-6 boys assaulted one other child. That incident was covered by every local news channel, with the parents even appearing on the news and my radio show. Yet, because this involves black children in Jackson, it seems everyone is content to sweep it under the rug, dismissing it as mere "kids being kids." What in the world is the FBI - Jackson doing about this? A minority child is kidnapped off the street, assaulted with what are presumably stolen firearms, and the video is posted online, yet there's silence. Again, if these were white kids, you'd see the suspects paraded on the evening news at 5, 6, and 10 PM.

On Thursday, December 19, 2024, deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department in cooperation with the Pearl Police Department arrested Joshua Daniel Pace for Making Terroristic Threats. From approximately 10:13pm yesterday (Wednesday, 12/18/24) to 8:52am on today (Thursday, 12/19/24); the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department Communications Division received in excess of 20 phone calls where the 911 Dispatchers were threatened with physical violence and the caller even threatened to “blow up” the sheriff’s office. After investigators with the sheriff’s office obtained the call recordings and identified the suspect’s phone number, Pace was found to be the subscriber. At that time an arrest warrant was sought and obtained for Joshua Pace through the Rankin County Court. Once Pace was taken into custody it was discovered that he was out on Parole through the MS Department of Corrections for Elder Abuse. Joshua Pace is currently being held at the Rankin County Detention Center on $100,000 bond. This is an on-going investigation. The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department would like to express its appreciation to the Pearl Police Department for their assistance in capturing Pace.

FLORENCE, Miss. (WLBT) - A man is in custody after a police chase in Rankin County. Tuesday, Florence Police Chief Brad Burns told WLBT 3 On Your Side that officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2011 Black GMC Yukon on Highway 49 for improper equipment violations. Chief Burns said that while officers attempted to get the suspect and driver of the vehicle, Thomas Fresquez, out of the vehicle, he took off, and a chase ensued. Florence police said the driver ran multiple red lights into the city of Richland. With Richland PD’s assistance, the Yukon was spiked near Kroger, where it was a successful hit as three tires were disabled. A Richland Police K-9 was deployed into the vehicle, and Fresquez was then removed from his vehicle and taken into custody. According to the chief, the man was found to have a large amount of THC wax and three firearms. Fresquez faces multiple charges, including trafficking a controlled substance, felony fleeing, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of marijuana in close proximity of a firearm, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, false information to a law enforcement officer, suspended driver’s license, no insurance expired tag, and improper equipment. Fresquez also has a full extradition warrant from Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Mississippi Highway Patrol also assisted with the arrest.

I've been very vocal about my support for a casino in downtown Jackson, I 100% believe it's that it's going to take that type of development to salvage what's left of downtown after the last 30+ years of far-left, ultra-progressive Democrat, super majority control of Jackson. I still believe the delegations that represent the current casino cities will never allow it and I don't understand why we continue to pander to them. The majority of the casino's customers come from the tri-county area, so the tri-county area should benefit in the economic boom that comes from the casinos. Competition is good for everyone, it's not our responsibility to keep Vicksburg's casinos afloat. JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) -A Mississippi House committee looking at ways to revitalize the capital city is going beyond blight discussions. They’re being given details of a plan that could have you sitting at a slot machine within a mile of the State Capitol. A group of five businessmen, including former Governor Haley Barbour are making their pitch to lawmakers that they believe can help reverse the economic trends of the capital city. “And that is a casino,” said William Richardson, one of the five members of the Capital City Forward Together team. But the idea brings forward plenty of questions. First, the location. “We are recommending a mile or so of the capitol that brings the jobs, that brings the people,” explained Richardson. “It restores the core of our city.” However, the group makes a few things clear: they don’t think it needs to be limited to a specific site. “Why we don’t come and say here’s the best site, we’re not qualified,” noted Richardson. “A casino company that’s paying the bill, they’re going to look at what their costs are.” And they are not recommending lawmakers put any state money into it. “We are not asking and I would discourage this committee, the whole legislature, you don’t need to give a casino any tax money,” added Richardson. “You don’t need to invest in it. They got the money.” So, why even come to the legislature with the proposal? The state law would need to be amended to allow for authorization of a casino in Jackson. Under this group’s proposal, they think only one should be licensed, and it should be with a current operator in the state. The final piece of their request would require the developer to pay an annual $10 million “Impact fee.” “Which is a secret way of saying you’re going to help fund additional growth,” said Richardson. It would operate as a revolving loan fund for others looking to invest in the city. “We have this opportunity sitting in front of us to do something about all this and bring in economic development without asking the taxpayers for a dollar,” added Richard McNeel, one of the five businessmen offering the proposal. The discussions will continue when the session begins next month.
