Over a three hour period on the morning of September 4, 2022, Myles Sanderson killed 11 and injured 18 people in mass stabbing rampage that began on the James Smith Cree Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada. This story revolves around a rape allegation directed at a respected physician. On Halloween night 1992, a 23 year old woman went to the Kipling Memorial Hospital in Kipling, Saskatchewan facing a mental health crisis. The physician on duty, Dr. John Schneeberger would handle her care. The care he provides involved drugging her, raping her, and going to unimaginable lengths to hide his crime. This story takes us to Pickering, Ontario During the early morning hours of March 17th, 1995 a group of six teenagers leave a house party in the area with plans to "goof around" at a nearby marina. Security cameras at the Marina show three of the boys enter the area just prior to 2am. They, nor the other three boys they left the party with, have ever been seen again. The only evidence suggesting their possible whereabouts was two reports of stolen watercraft. Then 26 year old civil engineer Andrew Gnazdowsky and a co-worker were on site completing a survey of a Nova Scotia Power dam near Sheet Harbour in October of 2020. When a technology failure disrupted their work, Andrew made the fateful decision to enter the water and collect the failed equipment. Moments later, Andrew would briefly yell for help before ultimately disappearing below the still water. In the year since Andrew's tragic death, the Gnazdowsky's have been steadfast in their belief that the investigation into Andrew's death has been at best flawed and at worst completely compromised… and it's not just a hunch that tells them that. Conflicts of interest, erroneous death records, the scrubbing online records, bureaucratic flip flopping, and opportunistic politicians... This story has all of it. In this episode, our story will take us to the quite town of Wolfville, Nova Scotia. In September of 1992, then 20 year old Cape Bretoner, Kenley Matheson arrived in Wolfville to begin classes at Acadia University. Only two weeks into the school year, he was last seen by a friend walking on Main Street in Wolfville carrying a red and black backpack. There has not been any proof of life, or credible sightings of him since. On April 12th, 2016 something was happening in 16 year old Mekayla Bali's life, but that's about all we know for sure. She did get dropped off at school, but she didn't attend classes. Instead she walked a twisted route around town, making a series of puzzling stops along the way, each one piling mystery upon mystery until mid afternoon when her trail simply ends. Now, six years later her loved ones are still attempting to follow the clues left behind in hopes they lead to Mekayla. Long time listeners of Nighttime will remember Mekayla's story as her mother Paula joined us shortly after the first anniversary of her disappearance but since then there have been considerable updates, developments, and listener requests for a follow up. April 12, 2016, 16 year old Mekayla Bali failed to meet her ride home from her Yorkton, SK high school. It was then discovered Mekayla never attended classes that day, despite having been dropped off at the school earlier that morning. Over a year later, Mekayla has yet to be located and her family knows little more than they did that day. In the early morning hours of November 25, 2012, 3rd year Mount Allison student Chris Metallic ended a night of partying with friends. A belly full of alcohol played a part in his decision to leave the party, and certainly played a part in him leaving his shoes and wallet behind… that was going to be a problem to solve the next morning. At some point during the early morning of July 5, 2004, 5 year old Tamra Keepness seems to have simply vanished from her home. The facts of that evening, as well as the behaviours of the adults responsible for Tamra's care, are more than a bit hazy. What started with photos, showing a high school teacher wearing very large prosthetic breasts, going viral online quickly evolved into international news coverage and now, like seemingly every hot topic that affects society, has devolved into disorganized protesting and public gatherings. Trafalgar High School has become the venue for protestors who are against all sorts of things, the wood shop teacher’s form of gender expression included. Dale Rancourt is a former children’s entertainer and registered sex offender who is known widely as the disgraced ‘Klutzy the Clown’, As you heard in my prior episode while researching Rancourt's life and crime I referenced a documentary film (Big Shoes) about him, produced several years before his arrest. As you may have expected, the film really didn't age well and not because of any creative of technical decisions Michael or Adrienne made but because it leaves out the topic that dominates any discussion about Dale Klutzy the Clown Rancourt.. the sexual offences against a child that occurred in the years after the films release. After watching the film I was interested to hear how the filmmakers have dealt with such a spoiled creation and that’s exactly what we will get into in this episode. For a period spanning a little more than a decade you would have been hard pressed to find a Cape Bretoner unfamiliar with Dale Rancourt and his character Klutzy the Clown. He was both a children and adult entertainer bouncing his way between birthday party's, old folks homes, and public events being a not an especially good performer. He certainly wasn't universally respected, but somehow he managed to find a place for Klutzy the clown in Cape Breton's entertainment economy, but it's all gone now. Millions of folks, from all over the world, have watched along in amazement as this Nova Scotia based pair kiss, cuddle, and call each other baby. London, Ontario - Oct 13, 1983 17-year-old Donna-Jean Awcock was babysitting a neighbour's child in the apartment building next door to where she lived… Something she did regularly. When the child's mother returned home, in the early morning hours, she asked Donna run across the street to a convenience store before she left. This visit to the store which was only a stones throw away from her home is the last time Donna was seen alive. A gruesome discovery at a riverbank in the days later would explain what happened to her... but not who was responsible. The murder has remained unsolved for nearly 40 years, but not due to lack of trying. Shortly after the release of the prior episode in this series I connected with someone very close to this story and they offered to reveal some startling new details that will shed even more light on what may have happened to Emily Bailey. Brandon is the father of one of Emily's daughters. You've heard him mentioned in past episodes as he was the person responsible for reporting her missing to Hamilton Police. In this episode we are going to remain in Hamilton, Ontario for continued coverage related to the disappearance of 23 year old mother of two, Emily Bailey. In our prior episode, we met with Emily’s brother Ben Bailey. Shortly after the release of that episode the show was contacted by a close friend of Emily's named Nikki. Nikki explained that she may be able to fill in many of the blanks related to Emily's last known whereabouts and possibly shed some light on the circumstances related to her disappearance. Nikki was one of the last people to see Emily, was polygraphed by Hamilton police, and provide investigators with some disturbing information regarding the man she last saw Emily with.
