Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on New Year's Eve 2020 21 year old Zack Lefave rings in the new year partying with friends, but as the final moments of 2020 played out something happens that Zack, or any of his loved ones, could have imagined. Zack walked away leaving a trail that only created more questions. The last known sighting of Zack Lefave was at 1225am, on New Year's Day 2021 when a passing motorist noticed a young man, not wearing pants, walking alone along a dark stretch of road. Romana Didulo, the self declared Queen of Canada, has managed to convince her followers that she is leading this country with the help of both international partners and... well... aliens. In past Nighttime episodes we looked at this story in a variety of ways; we discussed the fake queen's background, we examined the attempt her followers made to arrest the Peterborough, Ontario police force, and we've watched along with the ongoing siege of a small town in Saskatchewan the group is currently residing in. Throughout most of those episodes there was a bit of an undercurrent of "how can people believe this?" Romana Didulo's followers view her as much as a religious deity as a political leader and that's why when I heard a professor and a lecturer from Queen's University's School of Religion published a research paper on Romana Didulo I had to learn more. 'Reviving the violet Flame' examines the religious concepts and ideas that have somehow found their way into the bizarre world of Romana Didulo. In a past episode, I shared the story of Romana Didulo, the Pilipino immigrant who, from a bedroom in a Victoria, BC boarding house, convinced a surprising number of Canadians that she is the true queen of Canada and our Kingdom's commander in chief. Via a series of follow up episodes we also heard how she and her followers attempted a sort of twisted siege of a Peterborough police station. Despite the failed arrest of a police force, Romana Didulo and her followers haven’t slowed down. Earlier this month they arrived in Kamsack, Saskatchewan with plans to rebuild the town under Didulo’s rule only to be chased out of town by locals… but they didn’t travel far. The Queen and her followers are now sheltering in an abandoned school house in the town of Richmound, Saskatchewan and the towns people have been circling it in protest almost since their arrival. Using little more than a Youtube account a middle aged woman living in a boarding house in Victoria, BC has convinced thousands of people across the country that a global group of allied countries have appointed her Queen of Canada and Commander in Chief of Canada. Her followers (who refer to themselves as We The People) believe her many royal decrees to be law and they act accordingly. One such decree, an end to all covid related mandates, slowly evolved and mutated into a group of her followers laying Siege to the Peterborough Police Station with the goal of arresting the staff and turning them over to the American military to face charges of crimes against humanity. For nearly a year now, a middle aged woman in Victoria, BC has been publishing videos and releasing written statements in which she claims to have been appointed as Queen of Canada and head of government by a collective of allied nations. It may sound laughable, but Romana Didulo has been embraced by the online Qanon conspiracy subculture and as a result she has found herself with a large devoted following, upwards of 70k members in fact, and many of them believe her every word. Romana Didulo has declared the version of Canada she claims to lead a vaccination free country... and has declared vaccine administration a crime against humanity that is punishable by death... and she seems to have given her followers approval to carry out the enforcement. To help us understand the story, I've turned to Peter Smith, a journalist with the Canadian Antihate network, who has been tracking Romana's activities since she first surfaced as an influential extremist leader. Our story is going to take us back to 2022 and into suburban Ontario for what can only be described as a living nightmare. Something awful had been happening to 37 year old Iranian immigrant Elnaz Hajtamiri. Although she never confided in her loved ones what exactly was going on, it is quite clear she was being hunted. Over the span of several weeks multiple tracking devices were found on her car, she was violently attack with a frying pan by two masked men, and then in her last known moments three men dressed as police officers entered a home she had been staying at claiming to have a warrant for her arrest. Elnaz was last seen being dragged by these men barefoot through the snow and into a white SUV. The questions of where she is, who took her, and why remain unanswered, but it seems those secrets won't be kept for long. Duncan, BC. New Years Day 1970. Just before dawn. Doreen Kendall, a nurse at the Cowichan Hospital, wanted to open a window and get some fresh air in a patients room. As the curtains parted, a blinding light being projected from an object hovering just outside the window froze her dead in her tracks. 2006, Near Regina Beach, Saskatchewan On the third night of a three day long graduation party, a group of people unconnected to the event crashed the party. This episode is going to take us to Hogsback Lake, a sort of natural recreation area southeast of Vanderhoof, British Columbia. Although the area is known by locals as an ideal spot for camping and fishing, it has also become known as the setting for one of Canada's most often discussed missing person cases. On May 28, 2011, then 20 year old Maddy Scott attended an annual party at Hogsback Lake. Maddy and her friend Jordi intended to camp out at the lake together but unexpected attendees and alcohol would lead to Maddy being left behind to camp alone. The next morning the only thing found at the lake was Maddy's truck and an empty tent. Over the past 12 years the search for Maddy would receive international attention and a ravenous online following despite very little in the way of clues or developments but that all changed just last week and dramatically so. This episode is going to take us to the community of Buffalo Narrows in Saskatchewan. On a cold night in January of 1969, 19 year old Fred McCallum entered the Pederson family home as they slept. By the time he leaves he is covered in blood, carrying a large axe, and unsure of exactly what he did to the Pederson family. This story revolves around a rape allegation directed at a respected physician. On Halloween night 1992, a 23 year old woman went to the Kipling Memorial Hospital in Kipling, Saskatchewan facing a mental health crisis. The physician on duty, Dr. John Schneeberger would handle her care. The care he provides involved drugging her, raping her, and going to unimaginable lengths to hide his crime. In this multi-part series the death of Sia Van Wyck is explored. On July 19th of 2017, seven year old Sia Van Wyck was killed by a man driving a combine tractor while playing in a field in rural Nova Scotia. An RCMP investigation deemed the death a tragic accident that was not criminal in nature however her family, her supporters, and their respected private investigator believe the investigation was fundamentally flawed from the start and had it been handled properly things may have likely turned out very differently. This story takes us to Pickering, Ontario During the early morning hours of March 17th, 1995 a group of six teenagers leave a house party in the area with plans to "goof around" at a nearby marina. Security cameras at the Marina show three of the boys enter the area just prior to 2am. They, nor the other three boys they left the party with, have ever been seen again. The only evidence suggesting their possible whereabouts was two reports of stolen watercraft.
