Nanaimo, British Columbia 22 year old Sherry Corrigal was going through a rough patch. While walking a line between homelessness and couch surfing, Sherry was battling the same personal demons that had haunted her biological family and resulted in her childhood being divided between several foster families. The outcome of Sherry’s battle has become a mystery as in September of 2023 she seemed to vanish leaving behind a trail filled with unreliable witness, contradicting accounts, disturbing rumours, and desperate loved ones. When Dianna Mah-Jones uncharacteristically missed a meeting, a co-worker went to her house to check on her. What was found in the home was aftermath of one of Vancouver’s most horrific crimes. The double murder of 65 year old Dianna Mah-Jones and her 68 year old husband Richard Jones was as brutal as it is senseless. When the suspect, 25 year old Rocky Rambo Wei Nam Kam, was questioned he seemed more interested in talking to police about video games then what happened inside the home. In fact, video games would become a major part of the case… as Rocky Rambo’s defense is that he thought he was in one when the elderly couple were brutally murdered. Prince Albert, SK - May 11, 2021 Bernie Herman has been with the RCMP for over 30 years and at 55 years old, retirement was inching closer every day. With a wife at home, children grown, and grandchildren to enjoy, you would expect the veteran Mountie was anxious spend his golden years stretching out in the life he spent a lifetime building. But, that's far from the way Bernie's story goes. For reasons we may never fully understand, Bernie formed a friendship with a young man he met on facebook and that relationship evolved into something between a father/son dynamic and an extramarital affair. What we do know, is that whatever motivated and nurtured the relationship isn't what ended it. While in his uniform, and with his RCMP issued firearm, Bernie shot his 25 year old lover dead in a wooded area on the outside of town. Evidence suggests he drove over his naked body as he left the scene. In this episode Madelayne Klein and I will discuss the story Bernie Herman, and the murder of Braden Herman. Ryan Sommers has a rather remarkable story to tell. Back in 1994, when he was a student at C.P. Allen High School, he was involved in an economics project in which groups of students started businesses. Ryan's group decided on running a sort of gambling scenario that involved bringing a cow to the school's sports field, and having people wager bets on where it would first poop. As you will hear in this episode, the entire event went horribly wrong, and resulted in a cow chase involving RCMP, animal control officers, and large groups of excited school kids. On Jan. 3, 2017, Afghanistan war veteran Lionel Desmond bought a semi-automatic rifle, dressed himself in camo, and snuck through the woods to his family home. Inside he shot his mother, his wife, and his 10-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself. The factors that led to this horrific outcome, and the red flags missed/ignored along the way were the topics of a public inquiry that has just concluded. I love a David vs. Goliath story, and in this episode we have an especially lopsided mismatch. Romana Didulo, the self declared Queen of Canada, has managed to convince her followers that she is leading this country with the help of both international partners and... well... aliens. In past Nighttime episodes we looked at this story in a variety of ways; we discussed the fake queen's background, we examined the attempt her followers made to arrest the Peterborough, Ontario police force, and we've watched along with the ongoing siege of a small town in Saskatchewan the group is currently residing in. In a past episode, I shared the story of Romana Didulo, the Pilipino immigrant who, from a bedroom in a Victoria, BC boarding house, convinced a surprising number of Canadians that she is the true queen of Canada and our Kingdom's commander in chief. Via a series of follow up episodes we also heard how she and her followers attempted a sort of twisted siege of a Peterborough police station. Despite the failed arrest of a police force, Romana Didulo and her followers haven’t slowed down. Earlier this month they arrived in Kamsack, Saskatchewan with plans to rebuild the town under Didulo’s rule only to be chased out of town by locals… but they didn’t travel far. The Queen and her followers are now sheltering in an abandoned school house in the town of Richmound, Saskatchewan and the towns people have been circling it in protest almost since their arrival. Using little more than a Youtube account a middle aged woman living in a boarding house in Victoria, BC has convinced thousands of people across the country that a global group of allied countries have appointed her Queen of Canada and Commander in Chief of Canada. Her followers (who refer to themselves as We The People) believe her many royal decrees to be law and they act accordingly. One such decree, an end to all covid related mandates, slowly evolved and mutated into a group of her followers laying Siege to the Peterborough Police Station with the goal of arresting the staff and turning them over to the American military to face charges of crimes against humanity. For nearly a year now, a middle aged woman in Victoria, BC has been publishing videos and releasing written statements in which she claims to have been appointed as Queen of Canada and head of government by a collective of allied nations. It may sound laughable, but Romana Didulo has been embraced by the online Qanon conspiracy subculture and as a result she has found herself with a large devoted following, upwards of 70k members in fact, and many of them believe her every word. Romana Didulo has declared the version of Canada she claims to lead a vaccination free country... and has declared vaccine administration a crime against humanity that is punishable by death... and she seems to have given her followers approval to carry out the enforcement. To help us understand the story, I've turned to Peter Smith, a journalist with the Canadian Antihate network, who has been tracking Romana's activities since she first surfaced as an influential extremist leader. Our story is going to take us back to 2022 and into suburban Ontario for what can only be described as a living nightmare. Something awful had been happening to 37 year old Iranian immigrant Elnaz Hajtamiri. Although she never confided in her loved ones what exactly was going on, it is quite clear she was being hunted. Over the span of several weeks multiple tracking devices were found on her car, she was violently attack with a frying pan by two masked men, and then in her last known moments three men dressed as police officers entered a home she had been staying at claiming to have a warrant for her arrest. Elnaz was last seen being dragged by these men barefoot through the snow and into a white SUV. The questions of where she is, who took her, and why remain unanswered, but it seems those secrets won't be kept for long.
