We're back with our 2nd edition of the Cabral HouseCall and we have 5 more community questions to answer today! Here are those questions: Nikki: Hi there! First, thank you so much this podcast. I live in LA and I actually look forward to driving so I can get some uninterrupted listening time in. I really appreciate you spreading your knowledge on wellness and also really enjoy the spiritual tones many of your podcasts take. I'm just so happy I found you and I tell friends/family about you often. My question: I recently had to give my 8 month antibiotics for an ear infection. While I really didn't want to (as I've heard you say and also believe they should be taken more in a life threatening situation), the scared mother in me did as I didn't want it to turn into something else with her being so young. My question is, what can I do now to help her. She's on solid foods a couple times a day. Sweet potato, peas, bananas, etc. And in the same vain, how do you handle situations with your children as far as what they eat with other family members or parties where treats and soda are flowing like crazy! My 3 year old eats healthy at home but loves treats when we're out. Laura: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am a physical therapist who works with patients with pelvic pain and pelvic floor disorders. Many of them also have chronic constipation. I know that unless their constipation resolves they will not get better due to the pressure on the pelvic floor and also increased inflammation. I am constantly referring my patients to functional medicine but they rarely follow through because of the cost. So instead, I have started making my own recommendations based on my own research. I advise them to take magnesium glycinate and vitamin C powder to soften the stool. This has been very effective. I may also recommend a probiotic. If they are willing to take it a step further I will instruct them in an elimination diet to look for food sensitivities. I know it is preferable to treat the underlying cause, but I know that if I do not get their bowels moving quickly, any work I do to relax and strengthen their pelvic floor is futile. Any advice for me as a practitioner trying to help my patients? Christine: Hello, I really enjoy the Cabral Concept and listen regularly. I am hoping you can discuss MTHFR. I have recently found that i have homogeneous MTHFR and wondering if supplements work( L5 MTHF and Ultra b12 folate ) and how long will i need to take them? I can manage them with OTC products, but I just wish I didn't have to. I eat lots of fruits and vegetables and fiber. I drink a lot of water and nothing else except a cup of coffee in the late morning/early afternoon. Limit my alcohol to events only. I exercise 3/4 days a week. I take extra magnesium. She has recently become very ill because of what has been called liver failure from apparently drinking in excess. She has been told that there is basically no solution for fixing her liver and she has met with a dietitian who has prescribed her a low salt diet and to avoid drinking anything anymore. If she doesn't drink and her condition improves then she may be able to have a partial liver transplant in the future. Though unlikely. Is there a diet that could help speed up her recovery and any supplements or other protocols that she could follow. Welcome back to our 2nd House Call of the weekend where I answer your questions on all things wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging! Here are today's Q&A's: Deborah: I am interested in your weight loss testing kit. I am currently on HRT. How long would I need to stop HRT before I take the test to find out what my true levels are? Thanks in advance, Deborah Nadim: I am sure you asked this question all the time, but is it possible to heal disc herniations? There is a lot of contradictory information on this subject and I really do not know what to believe. More specifically I have a large central posterior disc herniation between L4/L5 that originally resulted in significant referred pain in my feet. I have had the injury for about 3 years, but more recently the pain has improved since returning to the gym, however, I do not know if I am doing the right things, please advise. My gym routine involves back extensions (weighted), pull ups and kettle bell squats with my feet very close to a wall to ensure proper form. I also occasionally do some deadlifting (60kg). I have also increased the amount of water I consume and supplement with omega 3, vegetal silica, Xtend Life total balance multi vitamins, and Bio Kult probiotics. What advice can you give to help further improve my situation or heal my disc injury? Exercise, nutrition, sleeping position and type of bed? Finally, it is worth mentioning that although my injury seems to have improved to the point that I now only get a little referred pain intermittently during the day, I always seem to have some when getting out of bed in a morning. I assume this is because I can't control my posture when sleeping? Hayley: Hi Dr. Cabral! My question is in regards to Vitamin C. I've heard that Sodium Ascorbate is a better form of vitamin C to take than Ascorbic Acid. Is this true? Sodium Ascorbate is quite a bit more expensive, so I'm hoping it isn't! Thank you! Even if the topic isn't something I am specifically dealing with - I am fascinated and interested in learning as much as I can. He has apparently tried everything available to him, but here in Canada Lyme Disease is not really regarded as a true health issue, unlike in the US where it's my understanding that it is. Thank you :) MN: Greetings! Thank you for all you do. I've struggled with Bacterial Vaginosis for at least 6 years. I've been pregnant, but it was ectopic. I have also been told after an exam that I have non-cancerous, abnormal cells on my cervix. About 6 days after intercourse (condoms and all) my vaginal flora changes and I get symptoms. No odor, just a change in discharge. Have you been able to cure anyone? Most ladies who suffer from this have only found temporary relief. Any insights would be awesome. I'm a woman in my 40's and have been seeing a functional medicine doctor for several years. She helped me diagnose sibo and candida overgrowth, which were causing my digestive issues. I also have low ferritin and slightly low testosterone and DHEA. I now have the digestive issues under control; however, I'm still struggling with acne and hair loss. I had great results with my skin clearing up and normalizing (less oily) while on spironolactone but my doctor wanted me to go off it back when we were still diagnosing my issues. What are your thoughts on the use of spironolactone? Is it safe to take? I hate the idea of taking it but I hate my skin even more right now. I've also heard spironolactone can help with hair loss. I'm currently taking saw palmetto and if that doesn't help with the hair loss then she may have me try DHEA supplements too but said there can be some risk in that if we don't get the dosage just right. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Andrea: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have suffered from digestive-based issues as long as I can remember. When I was a child I remember being hospitalized due to chronic constipation because I couldn't even walk! From there, I have had bouts of both constipation and diarrhea that last for years at a time. For the past 4 and a half years I have dealt with chronic constipation - I can easily go 5 days without a bowel movement, which is extremely distracting because I have a lot of bloating, distention and sharp pain. I found a functional medicine practitioner who ran some tests to discover I am slightly sensitive to casein, whey, egg whites and wheat, so I have since removed those foods. My thyroid panel looked fine despite my morning body temperature being low for years. A stool test revealed I had a parasitic infection (Giardia) which we treated, and after running the test again after treatment, he discovered I had low SigA and H, Pylori. He put me on a treatment plan of adaptogenic herbs to manage stress and L-glutamine to build up my intestinal lining, but we did not address the H. Pylori. He did also mention candida being present (which makes sense because I have recurring vaginal yeast infections), which we did not address either. My symptoms have not reduced, and I still have pain and discomfort and fullness in the bowels after eating. I have survived the past few years with many tears, digestive enzymes before meals, senna tea (almost every night, which I know is not good for me) and very high doses of magnesium citrate to produce regular bowel movements (which I know is throwing off the balance of my body and is potentially very dangerous). I eat a mostly plant-based diet, tons of vegetables, chew my food well, drink 3 L of water every day, live an active lifestyle (HIIT workouts mostly) avoid gluten, now avoid sugar and alcohol, and do "all the right things" including trying my best to get my stress in check. Dr. Cabral, what do you recommend I do next? I lack the money to keep paying for tests and supplements that yield no results. I just want to be sure I am spending in the right direction. Both suffer from super dry, cracked hands. They play with basketballs and footballs regularly, which seems to make their fingers spit and crack even more. It is extremely painful for them. Is there anything I can try that is natural, or anything I should be looking out for? We have tried them sleeping with cotton gloves with different things on their hands. That doesn't seem to help at all. Their doctors have prescribed steroid cream which I am against, but, again have tried. That didn't even touch the problem so after two weeks we stopped that. Ep 329329: Auto Immune Low Thyroid, Mucus Production, Stop Running for Weight Loss? (HouseCall)

I'm looking forward to answering all your questions today so let's get started: Erika: Hi Dr. Cabral - Thank you so much for your podcast. It literally has changed my life. I have been taking your daily greens and have grown to love it as a part of my daily morning routine. I am currently in the middle of your 7 day detox and also can't say enough good things about the daily nutritional support formula. Tastes great! Since being diagnosed with Hashimotos earlier this year... I have seen two endocrines who weren't a good fit for me, and continued to increase my medicine. I ended up with TSH levels starting at 7, and getting down over the last months to 0.02, 0.015 etc. I am 30, super fit, all my vitals are in line, and i eat healthy! i refuse to have to take thyroid medication for the rest of my life - especially since over the last 2 years it hasnt helped me feel any better! I have started to see a holistic doctor who came highly recommended, who also has his medical doctorate degree. He told me i could stop taking my T3 and T4 (which is what i REALLY wanted to hear).... but prescribed me LDN & Lithium. With regards to LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) - I have done a ton of reading and I think i am comfortable taking it. He has me on 3mg, and i am only starting on half that amount per day so far. What are your thoughts on LDN?? With regards to Lithium, I am having a really hard time coming to terms with taking it. 90% of what i am reading online terrifies me, and so did the pharmacist when i picked up the perscription. I do not have bipolar disorder. The doctor i am seeing tested my lithium levels, and they were zero. He feels that lithium is a natural thing to take, and things the low dose of (150mg/day), is for supplemental purposes. However when i read about it online, i read it can cause manic episodes, interfere with my fertility, and even cause me to have hypothyroid! What is your opinion on taking low dose Lithium as a supplement for better health? Seriously cant thank you enough for your podcasts, your supplements and for answering our questions!! Phillyus: I really enjoyed your tongue diagnosis show (TWT-311)! I have a question on the same subject that I didn't hear you cover during that episode. What does it mean when I create a lot of saliva in my mouth? Many thanks! Jeovanni: I love to run, but heard you say it's bad for me. Should i stop completely? I want lose weight, but can't afford to join a gym and running seems like an easy thing for me to do everyday to lose weight. Please help. Thanks you!!
