As you know, I have the utmost respect for anyone who puts themselves out there to achieve what they want in life and this is no different. With that said, Jake will face by far his toughest opponent yet, former UFC champion Tyron Woodley this Sunday. Insert Anthony “Pretty Boy” Taylor who is also today’s guest. Anthony is an up-and-coming fighter and has won his last five fights. Ep 156Having & Raising a Child In Prison, Losing & Regaining Custody & How She Rebuilt Her Life After Incarceration w/ Jen Cutting
One of my favorite conversations to have on the show are those that amplify incredible stories of recovery and hope. Jen Cutting has one of the wildest and most inspirational stories I have ever come across. Today Jen has been sober for nearly 4 years, is a recovery warrior, and works closely with the prison system to help other women. This would have seemed nearly impossible not long ago as Jen has been incarcerated multiple times for drug-fueled felony charges. In fact, she even had and raised her daughter while she was in prison. Today she will walk you through her shocking and moving journey that is filled with many highs and many lows. Shortly after high school Jen met a man that was nearly 10 years older than her and that relationship gave her a taste of what manipulation, addiction and artificial love felt like. After breaking it off with him, she used his credit card to buy a plane ticket and move to Florida where she quickly got a job as an exotic dancer at a local strip club. On her 21st birthday she was introduced to cocaine, and that’s where things took a turn for the worst, as it quickly turned into a lifestyle. It got so bad, that she moved back to Staten Island before her 22nd birthday. While she thought it could be a catalyst to help her get her life back together it actually had the opposite effect. She met another man, began to strip at another local club and was prescribed Vicodin after an injury. Jen was prescribed Vicodin for months and months after her initial script and found herself in the depths of opiate addiction. After her doctor left, she was forced to get her fix illegally. So, she found men at the club who could get her pills and eventually this lead to her trying and shooting heroin. The debauchery continued and she and her then-boyfriend were caught stealing to support their heroin habit. She was arrested on a grand larceny charge and sentenced to prison. She gets out and catches another grand larceny charge and ends up in a diversion program where she was able to kick the opiate addiction for good. Shortly after her release, she fell in love and became pregnant. After violating her parole, she found herself back in prison again but this time she was facing a much bigger challenge as she was pregnant and her due date was during her incarceration. She had and raised her daughter in prison. You would think that after all of this, Jen would finally throw in the towel. Well, she didn’t. She was arrested for selling meth and found herself incarcerated once again. To make things even worse, she lost custody of her daughter. Today, she has full custody, has been sober for nearly 4 years, and is giving back by helping others in recovery and in the prison system. She is here to tell you the story of how this all happened and more. Today’s guest is Josh Clemente. Josh is the co-founder of Levels, which is the first consumer program that lets an individual know how food and lifestyle choices are directly affecting blood sugar and metabolic health, in real-time. They pair glucose monitoring with intelligent software to support healthy blood sugar levels. Some early users have included professional athletes, biohackers, the weight loss community and other health enthusiasts. This chat serves as a great follow-up to the convo I had with Cyrus Khambatta on the pod not too long ago where we dove deep into the topics of insulin resistance and diabetes. I definitely invite you to check that episode out if you missed it. The dialogue today with Josh certainly will touch on these subjects, but we spend quite a bit of time chatting about the incredible technology he has helped to create and the data that has come from it. Josh is also a mechanical engineer and CrossFit-L2 trainer. At SpaceX, he led a team to develop life support systems that in May of 2020 began sustaining astronauts on trips to and from the International Space Station aboard Crew Dragon: the first human-rated commercial spacecraft in history. Josh shares the benefits of using a continuous glucose monitor and how it can help shift the way we treat metabolic health issues. We talk about how certain foods affect insulin and how some widely promoted health foods can actually negatively impact blood sugar levels. Josh talks about how exercise impacts your metabolic health and flexibility and how certain types of exercise impact blood glucose levels. Our discussion also dovetails into sleep and stress and how they all play into this equation and what you can do to use them to your advantage. Levels is currently in “beta” and not available to the public. But, Josh has created a special page for y’all if you want to bypass the 115k + waitlist and purchase one now. Ep 139Adam "Smiley" Poswolsky on How to Create Connection and Rebuild Relationships in an Age of Loneliness and Isolation
How to Create Connection and Rebuild relationships in an Age of Loneliness and Isolation!!!! One of the hardest things about these last 15 months or so has been the inability for many to see loved ones, friends and co-workers in person. Things like loss of connection and feelings of loneliness and isolation have caused so much havoc on the health of so many people and social media and technology have quickly risen to take the place of these interpersonal connections which isn’t the greatest alternative. While the pandemic could be the easy thing to blame for these issues, I am afraid they started long before. It has been reported that the average American hasn’t made a new friend in 5 years which is disheartening. I think by now we all know the benefits of deep personal connections and relationships. Studies show that they help us live longer, feel better and improve our health. With that said, I couldn’t think of a better time to talk about this topic. Meet today’s guest and connection guru Adam Smiley Poswolsky. Smiley is a millennial workplace expert, motivational speaker, and author. He helps companies attract, retain, and empower millennial talent, and has inspired thousands of professionals to be more engaged at work. He has a Ted talk that has been viewed more than 1.5 million times, and has spoken in 20 countries about millennials, multigenerational engagement, and fostering connection and belonging in the workplace. His latest book FRIENDSHIP IN THE AGE OF LONELINESS: AN OPTIMIST’S GUIDE TO CONNECTION essentially gives the readers simple and effective habits for starting new relationships and strengthening existing ones which will be the focus of our discussion in this episode. And today’s conversation is going to educate you on what’s at the root cause of these feelings of loneliness and isolation while ultimately giving you the blueprint and the tools needed to create connections and rebuild relationships so that you can live a happier, healthier, and longer life. Ep 137Kate Cohen and Alexander Vesely-Frankl on Why Kids Are Struggling With Their Mental Health (And What We Can Do About It)
Today’s conversation is going to hit home with so many because we are talking about kids. We are going to discuss mental health issues among children and adolescents. According to a recent CDC report, ER visits for suspected suicide attempts were up 50% among teenage girls in the winter months of 2021 as compared to the same time frame in 2019. The CDC also reported that suicide was the 2nd leading cause of death in 2019 for people between the ages 10-34. It’s absolutely frightening. Rates of depression, anxiety, addiction, and prescription medications have also soared. What’s the answer? What needs to change? What can be done? While we all wish we could just wave a magic wand and cure this horrific epidemic, it’s clearly not that simple. With that said, a great first step is raising awareness which is what my two guests today are doing. Meet Kate Cohen and Alexander Vesely-Frankl. Kate is a producer and co-founder of Straight Up Films which she started with Marisa Polvino in 2008. Kate has worked with many A-List celebrities including Johnny Depp, Natalie Portman, and Morgan Freeman. Their latest endeavor, Straight Up Impact which Kate and Marisa started along with Pam Roy is on a mission to create commercial films that inspire audiences to enact social change. This includes “Man’s Search for Meaning,” a film adaptation of the highly popular memoir by Viktor Frankl. Tony Robbins and screenwriter Angela Workman are involved in the making of the film as is Alexander Vesely-Frankl a licensed psychotherapist and the grandson of the late Viktor Frankl. Alexander has also collaborated with Straight Up Impact to help create a compelling short film series entitled “Meaning in Madness” addressing the root causes of the current mental health crisis among our youth. We will be discussing two of these films today, one of which is called “Mackenzie” chronicling the real-life experiences of a 17-year-old high school student as she struggles to perform well in a demanding school while privately coping with depression. We also chat about their other film “Luna,” follows a 15-year-old girl who shares her experience growing up on prescribed psychiatric medication since she was 8 years old. Today we cover it all. We talk about what brought Alexander and Kate together to do this and discuss the premise and mission of their current projects. We have an in-depth discussion about what is causing the massive spike of the mental health issues of kids and the role that the school system, expectations, environment and performance-based metrics are playing. We get into what the school system could do differently, why it needs an overhaul, and how parents can know if their child is struggling. They share how Viktor Frankl’s pioneering therapeutic approach could help and why having “meaning” and “purpose” is crucial for thriving at any point in life. Our convo also gets into prescription medication and how it’s affecting the health of the youth. Topics discussed: What brought Kate and Alexander together to do these projects? What's the main mission behind their films? What are the issues that are causing the spike of kids struggling with their mental health? How can people give the message to kids in a way that they can relate to and understand, so that it's on their level, and they're inspired to change their perspective and take some action for the positive? If given a chance, what’s something that Kate and Alexander would add to the school system How meaningful is stress? What would Kate or Alex tell people about their film, the premise of it, what it's about, and what they can expect to get from it What advice can Kate give to parents so they could see the signs if a kid is struggling The importance of acceptance What could the school system do differently? Ep 135Luke Storey on Addiction, Sobriety, Plant Medicine and Healing Trauma
Luke Storey is the host of the highly popular The Life Stylist Podcast. He is also a writer and meditation/metaphysics teacher whose passion revolves around the topics of health, addiction, recovery and spirituality. Today Luke is a thought leader in the health and wellness space. But this wasn’t always the case. His history involves not only healing and recovery but also tremendous pain, trauma and addiction. His crippling addictions to multiple drugs including heroin and crack led him to living in a transient apartment building in Los Angeles self medicating with alcohol to handle the opiate withdrawal. It was also here that he decided to ask for help and change his life. Even though this moment was over 24 years ago and his life is dramatically different today, he still remembers those dark times vividly. Luke began using drugs when he was 8 or 9 years old as a way to escape from an unstable and abusive childhood. With hopes of being a famous rockstar, Luke found himself in Hollywood in the drug fueled music scene. His addictions and the progression of his self hatred eventually caught up with him leading him to the rock bottom moment I described earlier. One phone call led to Luke going to treatment and turning his life around. His redemption story has been driven by health, wellness, spirituality and courage. This along with Luke’s desire for self discovery and hunger for learning has led him to where he is today. Our conversation today unpacks Luke’s healing journey. We talk about why he used, how he made it out and the things he has struggled with in his recovery. He opens up about his experience with plant medicine and why it has been so helpful for him despite its controversial status in the recovery community. Ep 128Ethan Kross - How to Stop Negative Self Talk and Harness Your Inner Voice
How to Stop Negative Self Talk and Harness Your Inner Voice I think we all have a basic understanding that many of the issues that arise in our lives are a result of our inability to control and manage the voice in our head. Not only does this create problems, our ability to solve these problems strongly relies on how we use our thoughts and inner voice in those moments. They can either be used to our advantage and help us grow or to our disadvantage where they become “chatter.” Chatter is when the inner voice becomes toxic and destructive. It’s when we ruminate, obsess, and before we know it we are acting impulsively and making decisions that are not aligned with who we want to become. This leads to turmoil in our lives that can damage our health, careers, relationships and our sense of self if we are not careful. But, there is good news. There is a path forward and after listening to today’s episode you will have multiple tools that you can implement immediately to harness your inner voice, mitigate chatter and use your thoughts to improve your life. Today’s guest is Ethan Kross. Ethan is one of the world’s leading experts on controlling the conscious mind and the inner voice. He is An award-winning professor in the University of Michigan’s top-ranked Psychology Department and its Ross School of Business, he studies how the conversations people have with themselves impact their health, performance, decisions, and relationships. Ethan is also the best selling author of the newly released book “Chatter” The Voice in Our Head, Why it Matters and How to Harness It, which was chosen as one of the best new books of the year by the Washington Post, CNN and USA Today and the Winning Winter 2021 selection for Malcolm Gladwell, Adam Grant, Susan Cain, and Dan Pink’s Next Big Idea Book Club. This guy delivers an absolute masterclass on today’s show on the conscious mind, emotion regulation, our inner voice and thoughts, and of course chatter. What I value about Ethan’s approach is that it’s simple, proactive and anyone can do it. There is no equipment, financial investment or massive time commitment required. Part of his solution to harnessing your inner voice is practicing things like “distancing” yourself from the situation, creating rituals in your life and controlling the environment around you. Ethan also covers a few tactics that you may think work for controlling our negative thoughts that are actually counterproductive. This is a discussion that goes into great detail into what your inner voice is, how it’s different from chatter, and why talking to yourself is actually healthy. We also get into how to “hold space” for someone in a way that will help them move forward and why running to social media to share your problems isn’t always the best approach. The cool thing is that many of the strategies that Ethan teaches are also useful for emotional regulation which is also part of today’s conversation. This episode helps you manage chatter in the present moments as well as the future and ultimately assist you in letting the voice in your head become your greatest ally. Highlights: Why we have an inner voice, where it comes from and how it’s used? What is chatter and how is it different from our thoughts and inner voice? What is really the root cause of people's inability to manage their inner thoughts? Why the idea of going back to your childhood and addressing the root cause of trauma can be counterproductive How talking to yourself can be healthy (and why saying your name is important) Ethan shares some proven tactics to help you stop negative thoughts and chatter in its tracks Tools for controlling and regulating emotions Buy Ethan's book "Chatter:" https://www.ethankross.com/chatter/ Connect with Ethan: Website: http://www.ethankross.com Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/ethankross Twitter: https://twitter.com/ethan_kross Connect with Doug: Website: http://www.dougbopst.com/ Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/dougbopst Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dougbopst Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/dougbopst Private Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/690686891674188 More on PaleoValley Beef Sticks: www.paleovalley.com Use Promo code "Doug" at checkout to receive 15% off your order Learn more about your ad choices. With that said, today’s discussion I think will provide you with science-based, actionable steps that you can immediately take to understand, manage and mitigate your anxiety. What I like about Dr Jud’s approach is that it’s tactical, efficient and proactive. Ep 122From Drug Addict to Internet Celebrity: The Redemption Story of Mike Majlak
Mike Majlak is a popular Youtuber, Internet Celebrity and Co Host of one of the world's most popular shows, Impaulsive with Logan Paul. But, much of this seemed nearly impossible a little over a decade ago. On today's podcast, Mike takes us through his riveting addiction and post addiction story which he also reflects on in his highly popular debut book, 'The Fifth Vital'. Mike grew up as a “normal kid” who just like many found himself spiraling down the destructive path of addiction. It began with him experimenting with marijuana as a teenager and it quickly escalated into snorting painkillers, cocaine, xanax, heroin and smoking crack. Mike inevitably was also forced to sell these drugs in order to support his habit and his identity. This self-destructive journey continued for about a decade and also came with other negative side effects. Mike was arrested multiple times, robbed, drove his car off a cliff and watched his drug dealer get pistol-whipped right before his eyes. One of Mike’s lowest of lows came when he failed to take care of his sick grandfather while extremely high on crack. On June 18th, 2010 everything finally caught up with Mike when he was finally called on his BS by his probation officer and she decided to give him an opportunity to change his life. This is what would ultimately lead him to go to detox, treatment and turn his life around. Mike’s redemption story was fueled by fitness, goal setting, purpose, perseverance, and deep introspection. On a mission to make something out of his life and “hustle” in a meaningful way Mike rebuilt his resume, self-esteem and health. This gave him the confidence needed to apply and land a job at furniture retailer Lovesac to help them build their brand and social media. It was at Lovesac where he met Logan Paul and the rest is history. Our discussion today dives deep into what it was like being the Mike of the past versus the Mike of the present. We chat about his darkest moments, his rock bottoms and the scariest time of his life where he thought it was all over. More importantly, we talk about the exact tactics that Mike used to make the ultimate comeback, the healthy coping mechanisms he uses today and the advice he has for those that are still suffering. We also talk about his partnership with Logan Paul and what the future holds. This conversation is a reflection on the power of faith, fitness, fortitude and fulfillment and a story that I am excited to share. Some topics discussed: Mike's journey to addiction The parental divorce and his rough teenage years The switch from marijuana to opiates The trajectory that leads him to use heroin and crack Mike's darkest moments/rock bottoms Mike's scariest moment of his life Mike's turning point with the new Probation officer Why did Mike decide to stop using drugs? Today’s guest is Louisa Nicola. She is a trained clinical neuroscientist, the founder of Neuro Athletics and works one on one with professional NBA, MLS and NFL players to enhance peak brain performance. I am not sure which is more inspiring: her wealth of knowledge and expertise or her incredible story. Louisa grew up training competitively as a triathlete in Australia. One day while she was on her bike training for the triathlon world championship, a car struck her leaving her knee ruptured and shattering her dreams of competing. This ultimately changed her life and gave her the superpower to not only walk again, but to compete again. We go in depth about this extraordinary accomplishment and how it set the tone for the work she does today as a neuroscientist. Louisa and I have a detailed conversation on managing emotions, fear, stress and the entire nervous system. Ep 120Glenn Stearns - How This Undercover Billionaire Beat the Odds to Overcome Financial Hardship, Competition and Cancer
So many aspects of our daily lives depend on our outlook and mindset. How do you respond to challenges, mistakes and negative situations? Do you view them as problems or opportunities? Do you let your adversities define your life? Do you pass up opportunities out of fear of failing? My guest on today's episode Glenn Stearns believes you should use failure and adversity as a catalyst for change and not a reason to quit. Glenn was born to alcoholic parents, diagnosed dyslexic, and failed 4th grade. He became a father at age 14 and graduated high school in the bottom ten-percent of his class. A major turning point of his life came after finishing college when he decided to take his destiny in his own hands following another night of partying. Ironically, he made this choice at a local bar that I used to frequent back in the day in Towson, MD. He then moved to California in search of opportunities to rise above his humble beginnings. At 25, after working as a loan officer for 10 months, Glenn formed his own mortgage company, Stearns Lending LLC. By 2010, Stearns Lending LLC reached nearly $1 billion in monthly funded loan volume while experiencing record growth. Stearns not only survived the 2008 mortgage-lending crisis, it emerged as one of the top lenders in the country. Since 2010, Stearns Lending LLC has funded over 30-billion dollars in loans. In 2015, Glenn sold a majority of Stearns Lending to Blackstone and embarked on a hiatus with his family on his yacht. You would think that things would be “smooth sailing” from this point on. However, the tides turned and Glenn faced another major storm, cancer, which he beat twice. This coupled with an innate hunger to reinvent himself again was the inspiration for the show “Undercover Billionaire” in 2019. In the subsequent seasons that followed, Glenn has remained on board as an advisor and executive producer and now has started yet another mortgage company with his wife Mindy which we talk about. Glenn shares his entrepreneurial journey, how he built one of the most successful mortgage companies in an industry that is highly competitive. He reveals some secrets that can apply to anyone who’s interested in becoming resilient in the thick of uncertainty. We also talk about his story of cancer survival, why you shouldn’t solely chase money, and why he wasn’t happy when he sold his company. Topics Discussed Glenn's life before California How Glenn was inspired to start his own company and how he did it Weathering the stormy '2008' financial crisis and how it applies to today's struggles Glenn's advice to those on the verge of despair and how to build resilience How Glenn fought cancer twice and the lessons learned from it How the hit show "Undercover Billionaire" got started What keeps Glenn inspired and "hungry" Why you shouldn't solely chase money Glenn's hacks to building a sustainable business GLENN'S HACK TO BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS Success is not overnight. Quit chasing after materialism and focus on building a strong organization and quality leadership. Figure out what your goal is and never be in a haste to get to your destination or put a deadline on your success. Enjoy every moment you have to build and grow. It's not about having your game plan all mapped and then freaking out when it doesn't go as planned because it won't. It's about being a problem solver. That's what you are as an entrepreneur. Takeaways When faced with life's challenges, understand that 'This too shall pass.' Nothing stays constant, not even crisis. If you must build a sustainable business, surround yourself with great people of like interest and passion. Learn to communicate at the verge of despair. Prioritize family. Make sure they're happy because there's a lot more currency than money. There's happiness currency, health currency and there's joy currency. Ep 116Heather Hayes - A Nation That's Being Held Hostage By Addiction
A Nation That's Being Held Hostage By Addiction!!! Today’s episode is not only timely but truly one of the most impactful and informative conversations that I’ve ever had. The topic is one that is near and dear to my heart and the hearts of many. Why you may ask? Because we are talking about addiction and why and how our nation being held hostage by it. Do you think I am kidding? A recent CDC study stated that between May 2019 and May 2020 there were over 81,000 drug overdose deaths. My fear is that these numbers will continue to climb in the next coming year. It is also estimated that 1500 kids per day will try taking prescription drugs for the first time to get high. If you are the parent, relative, friend or spouse of somebody that could be struggling with addiction, you’re probably asking yourself a lot of questions. What do I do? How will I know? How do I find a good rehab? What if they don’t listen to me? What about pot? Do I just kick them out? How do I get them to be honest with me? Here is some good news. Today we are going to answer these questions. On the show today, I have Heather Hayes, one of the most highly respected and prominent authorities in the addiction field. She has over 30 years of experience as an interventionist and has completed over 3000 interventions. 95% of these have ended with the subject agreeing to go to treatment. You may recognize her from A&E’s hit show “Intervention” where she was a featured interventionist in 2018 and 2019 or from her appearances on Dr. Oz, CNN and other media. Did I forget to mention that she’s also a trained hostage negotiator? During our in depth discussion, Hayes provides step by step instructions on how to know if someone is suffering from addiction and how to ask the right questions. We cover how to support someone in recovery, how to deal with the trauma, shame and guilt of being a parent of an addicted child and how to have conversations about drugs. We talk about boundaries, tough love and enabling. She’ll reveal what she is seeing on the front lines regarding what types of drugs are most popular as well as the staggering statistics the country is facing. We also take a deep dive into cannabis and whether kids should be smoking it. Does it help with anxiety and is it a successful form of harm reduction? Finally, Hayes explains how to find the right treatment center and what she thinks is the solution to this massive problem we are facing. Topics discussed: Why addiction is very similar to a hostage situation and also potentially more complicated. Heather's background and what sets her apart How to know if someone is struggling with addiction and how to ask the right questions How do you support someone in recovery? How do you deal with the trauma, shame and guilt of being a parent of an addicted child and how to have conversations about drugs? Boundaries, tough love and enabling What she is seeing on the front lines The staggering statistics that the country is facing We take a deep dive into cannabis Should kids be smoking cannabis? How am I gonna feel about this 10 years from now?” And if the answer is yes, excited, pumped. 10 months or 10 years later, then you've hit a goldmine. You've hit something that you're gonna have the passion, the motivation, and the drive to fulfill.” - AJ Harbinger “We really made it a focal point to celebrate all the small victories along the way.” - AJ Harbinger Your confidence is like a skyscraper. Start out with a positive view of the day, and end your day with gratitude. The difference between success and lack of success is between your ears. You are constantly training your mind to focus on things whether you like them or not. “If you’re feeling like, ‘Wow. You know, I've had so many setbacks.’ I would challenge you to pick up the phone and reach out to the people in your life that you care about.” - AJ Harbinger Appreciation is actually telling people what you love about them, why you love having them in your life, why you really enjoy that relationship that person has brought to your life. And acceptance is actually inviting them to participate in your life. The key ingredient in this formula is curiosity -- genuine curiosity. The simplest way is to approach with gratitude and appreciation, and share with them. “Who you surround yourself with, and the intentionality of your habits, your lifestyle, is what unlocks these extraordinary levels of success that we look up to.” - AJ Harbinger Connect with AJ Harbinger: Website: https://theartofcharm.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theartofcharm/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/theartofcharm YouTube: https://www.youtu

Ep 111Dr. Judy Ho - The 4 Reasons Why You Self-Sabotage and How to Stop it
Today on the show we are talking about self-sabotage. This is something that clearly can destroy our own life as well as others if not handled properly. Self-sabotage can be as simple as not making the choices that we know will help us or that are not aligned with who we want to become. Other examples of self-sabotage include: giving up on a fitness journey too soon, not asking someone you like out on a date, or being too afraid to start that side hustle, project, or new career that you’ve dreamt about. Obvious forms of self-sabotage include making decisions you know can make your life worse like doing drugs, drinking excessively, staying in toxic relationships, not showing up for work or school or repetitive negative self-talk. Watching someone you love and care about “self-sabotage” can be heartbreaking. And we’ve all seen ourselves doing self-sabotaging behavior as well. You might be asking yourself why do we do this and how can we stop. After today’s episode, you will certainly have these questions answered. Dr. Judy Ho joins me on the show today. She is a triple board certified and licensed Clinical and Forensic Neuropsychologist, a tenured Associate Professor at Pepperdine University, an author most recently penning “Stop Self-Sabotage,” a book detailing a scientifically-driven six-step program to stop self-sabotage. We will take a deep dive into all things self-sabotage including the 4 reasons that you do it and the exact steps you must take to understand, unwind and stop it in its tracks. We will also discuss the close relationship between self-sabotage and procrastination. Topics discussed: What inspired Dr. Judy to write an entire book about self sabotage? Why self sabotage does touch every single human being at some point in their live Judy’s advice for people who want to move through the next phase and continue along the journey of achieving what they want The LIFE acronym: L - low or shaky self-esteem I - internalized beliefs F - fear of change or the unknown E - excessive need for control Real life examples Dr. Judy has seen that a lot of people can relate to The importance of embracing fear and embracing change The scientific way to unwind the self sabotage knot in people’s lives Dr. Judy shares some of her teaching techniques The importance of understanding your pattern The 6 steps to stop self-sabotage explained Takeaways: People think, “Well, if I'm feeling this or I'm thinking this and it must be true,” and a lot of times it's not, and we don't have to beat ourselves up about it. In fact, it's sort of like your brain trying to do its best to protect you. You have to find some way to ride through that anxiety. “When people procrastinate, it's not usually because you're lazy. You're procrastinating because you have all of these ideas about how you want to do it right. And you don't want to start the process until you can do it right. But then before you know it, you run out of time, and that's where the self-sabotage happens.” Dr. Judy Ho Rewiring our brain is always something possible no matter what age you are People don't realize that they're self-sabotaging sometimes, because they're just not aware, and they're not having enough mindfulness to their internal dialogue. Self-compassion is much more of a motivational factor than beating yourself up. Once you understand what your triggers are, you understand why you have these barriers to completing a specific goal. The more you rehearse in your mind, it's actually making connections as if you were doing it in real-time.
