Ep 97The Holistic Psychologist (Dr. Nicole LePera) - A Masterclass on How to Heal Your Past and Do the Inner Work

I bet many of you reading this are feeling stuck in some way. Whether it’s in your business, in your personal life or your relationships I am sure you’ve been wanting to finally break free from your past and heal. I am going to share a little secret with you. Even though your life isn’t “chaotic” it doesn’t mean that unhealthy behaviors aren’t holding you back from living your best life. Struggling to make change, self-sabotage, people-pleasing, addictions, constant feelings of anxiety/fear/stress, toxic relationships, feeling unfulfilled…. These are all signs that you are stuck and living in the past. I got you thinking now, didn’t I? I have been tracking down this person to get this interview for quite some time and after hearing who it is you will understand why. Her approach to healing is extraordinarily popular because of the way that it empowers people to have control over their thoughts, emotions, and actions. Remember, healing and doing the work is a daily practice. It certainly isn’t easy and takes time. There are many tools that can help you on your journey and she and I will discuss them all. But please, remember that the goal isn’t to implement these all at once. It’s simply to start small and begin to build new healthy habits one by one that will allow you to become your best self. Doing this will help you finally escape from the prison of your past so that you can be free to become the person you aspire. Many of you will recognize today's guest from her highly popular social media platform. Some of you have may have participated in her selfhealers circle or have reposted or have seen some of her viral content. I am very excited that Dr. Nicole LePera or as many of you know her The Holistic Psychologist is joining me on the show today. She is here to provide a masterclass on all things healing, including doing the inner work and holistic psychology. As a clinical psychologist in private practice, she often found herself frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. Wanting more for her patients— and for self— she began a journey to develop a united philosophy of mental, physical, and spiritual health that equips people with the tools necessary to heal themselves. Her book “How to do the Work: Recognize Your Patterns, Heal From Your Past, and Create Your Self" is set to be released on March 9th but is available now for presale. Her book should undoubtedly be on your must read list for the spring. We discuss why fitness can be a catalyst for change, why therapy alone won’t heal you, how to stop feeling stressed and anxious when you have nothing to be stressed about, how to know if you have experienced trauma and how to develop self awareness and belief in yourself so that you can feel worthy and stop repeating old patterns, heal and thrive. Topics discussed: Nicoles backstory Nicole's long battle with anxiety Nicole's physical health issues such as digestion issues, sleep issues, brain fog The mind body soul connection The importance of fitness and taking care of yourself The pivotal role fitness played in Nicole's healing journey The meaning of holistic psychology What is homeostasis/How does homeostasis relate to our previous patterns and conditioning/How can homeostasis show up with some of our struggles today? Some tips to help people discover if they've gone through something that has impacted them in a way that shows up in a negative way today Some ways that people can take a couple of steps to become more self-aware Ways for people to cultivate belief in themselves so that they can get back on the right foot in their life The reticular activating system The importance of going back to childhood specifically when they're experiencing discomfort or unhealthy patterns of behaviors The next step where someone can move forward when they already have established self awareness Nicole’s advice for people who are starting to set boundaries and what are some simple ways to do it What is ego? How can somebody do some proactive work to check their ego and be more self-aware How to set healthy boundaries The importance of working on yourself first. Takeaways: Holistic means mind, body, soul, and exploring the very real underlying drivers of how we act, think, and live our day to day life. Anytime we're struggling to create change, even if we know better or we can see a different future based on a different choice, usually it is an indicator that something deeper is preventing us from doing that. It's a good place to dive in and to look at what comes up. We have to learn moment to moment how to be present in our body so that over time, we can continue to meet its ever changing needs. Beliefs are so important and so impactful in how we experience and how we perceive our day to day happenings. Anything new is going to challenge that homeostatic impulse, that desire to be back in that familiar. Pick one thing and set a small daily promise each and every day, to keep that one promise. Ep 96Jon Gordon - How to Become More Positive Right Now

How to Become More Positive Right Now!!! There are many of you right now that are hurting. You are going through some tough times and Things like uncertainty, fear and negativity have taken over. I get it, and I have been there before, have felt that way before. But, what I found is that when I stay down for a period of time and focus on what’s going wrong in my life, it not only makes things worse. The negativity prevents us from accomplishing the very things that we want: happiness, hope and harmony. With that said, there are a few things you can do right now to shift your mindset and turn your fears into faith, pessimism into optimism, negativity into positivity. There are many of you whose response to a tough situation is the trigger to sustained hardship. What brings you down and keeps you there isn’t the situation in and of itself but your response to the situation and your attitude in the recovery phase. Remember it’s okay to feel down, stressed and negative about whatever happened, what isn’t okay is staying there. Overcoming hard times and accepting things out of your comfort zone begins with believing in yourself. Coupling a strong belief system with a positive mindset is a MUST for turning any setback into a comeback. While it doesn’t always guarantee you success, it gives you a stronger chance. As it’s incredibly difficult when you’re in the thick of it, I called in just the person to give you the tools necessary to become more positive in any situation. His name is Jon Gordon. Jon Gordon is a husband, father, and author. His best-selling books and talks have inspired readers and audiences around the world. He is the author of The Energy Bus, The Carpenter, Training Camp, The Power of Positive Leadership, The Power of a Positive Team, The Coffee Bean, The Garden, Relationship Grit, Coffee Bean for Kids and many others. When he’s not running through airports or speaking to businesses, hospitals or schools, you can find him spending time with his family and taking long walks which are when he gets most of his ideas. Jon believes in keeping his bio short because his past accomplishments are meaningless. What matters most is that he says something today that will inspire you to take action tomorrow. This episode is short, sweet and to the point and by the end you will have the exact steps needed to turn any negative situation into a positive one and do what’s needed to shift your mindset. Ep 95Former Navy SEAL Commander Rich Diviney on How to Face Your Fears, Build Resilience and Achieve Optimal Performance

Former Navy SEAL Commander Rich Diviney on How to Face Your Fears, Build Resilience and Achieve Optimal Performance!!! In this episode, a retired Navy SEAL commander is going to help you understand that getting through and managing fear, anxiety and stress in a healthy way is 100% possible and a must when it comes to living your best life. Overcoming challenges and doing hard things in your life will help you grow stronger mentally, physically and emotionally. It is also one of the best ways to develop true self-confidence. This is a must listen for anyone looking to gain a deeper understanding of how face your fears practically and effectively, build resiliency and recover from setbacks quickly and efficiently. This is also for anyone who is looking to develop the attributes needed for optimal performance. In a world that is full of uncertainty, this episode will show you why you need to accept the unknown that life brings and control what you can. After doing so, you can effectively get through life’s difficulties by using attributes such as perseverance, resiliency, and courage. The cool thing is the more you exercise these so called attributes, the easier it is to use them. In doing this, it will lead you down a path filled with strength, fortitude, hope and ultimately achieving optimal performance. Much of this is discussed in my guest, Rich Diviney’s new book, The Attributes: 25 Hidden Drivers of Optimal Performance. Rich was intimately involved in the world-renowned SEAL selection process, which whittles exceptional candidates down to a small group of the most elite optimal performers. But Diviney was often surprised by which recruits washed out and which succeeded. Someone could have all the right skills and still fail, while recruits he might have initially dismissed would prove to be top performers. The answer was in better understanding ATTRIBUTES. In his new book, The Attributes, Diviney shows how to discover and develop our innate attributes for performing optimally and having long-term success. He is a retired Navy SEAL commander. In a career spanning more than twenty years, he completed more than thirteen overseas deployments—eleven of which were to Iraq and Afghanistan. As the officer in charge of training for a specialized command, Diviney spearheaded the creation of a directorate that fused physical, mental, and emotional disciplines. He led his small team to create the first-ever “Mind Gym” that helped special operators train their brains to perform faster, longer, and better in all environments—especially high-stress ones. Since his retirement in early 2017, Diviney has worked as a speaker, facilitator, and consultant with the Chapman & Co. Leadership Institute and Simon Sinek Inc. He’s taught leadership and optimal performance to more than five thousand business, athletic, and military leaders from organizations such as American Airlines, Meijer Inc., the San Francisco 49ers, Pegasystems, Zoom, and Deloitte. We talk about Rich’s tips for managing anxiety and how to become more resilient. We discuss courage and why it’s so important for getting through hard times. Rich also provides advice on how to recharge in a way so that you can recover quickly and efficiently and so much more! Some of the topics discussed include: Rich's backstory What the whole notion of courage means and how it can really help people get through hard times. Rich’s tips on how to manage anxiety The 3-foot world Rich talking about "The Attributes" The difference between perseverance and resilience Tenacity and persistence How to build a resiliency muscle The importance of setting achieving goals and what it does to a person’s mind The difference between peak and optimal performance Why having optimal performance is a must for success Managing uncertainty, anxiety, and fear The difference between self-discipline, and discipline Rich’s advice for people to recharge in a way that they're able to recover quickly and efficiently The sympathetic and parasympathetic systems The active visualization The two of the attributes that Rich is still continuing to work on himself right now Takeaways: Fear is really the combination of uncertainty and anxiety. Focus on what you can control. Skills are not inherent to our nature. We learn them. Perseverance is more about the act of moving through a stress challenge, and resilience is more about the act of rebounding afterward. Moving through stress challenges and uncertainty makes you stronger. As human beings, our brains are question-answering machines. The quality of our lives is directly proportional to the quality of questions we consistently ask ourselves. In life, you can't necessarily plan peaks. The sympathetic system is what fires off when you are in action. Ep 94Jennifer Cohen - How to Turn Your Biggest Rejections Into Achievement

How to Turn Your Biggest Rejections Into Achievement!!! One of the things that scares us the most is rejection. We hold back from going after what we want in life because we are fearful of this one word: "no." But, the fascinating thing is that when we don’t ask, the answer will always be no and more importantly you are telling yourself that you aren’t worthy of going after whatever it is. Remember, not taking action is also failing. My guest today will show us how being confident and being resilient could help you achieve the success you are aiming for. She will enlighten and inspire us with her story and tell us how rejection and failure helped her cultivate a mindset of not being afraid to ask for what she wanted. So today on the podcast I have the queen of turning rejections into achievement. Her name is Jennifer Cohen. She a best-selling author, brand strategist, international speaker, and educator with a specific focus on building healthy habits to drive positive behavioral change. She was recently named “100 Most Influential People in Health and Fitness” by Greatist. She is the host of the podcast "Habits & Hustle" where she interviews entrepreneurs thought leaders and overall extraordinary people. They share their insight and open up about the normally hidden aspects that have made a difference in their success. But what I believe is most incredible about her is that she unapologetically goes after what she wants in life. There is A LOT to learn from that approach. Her TED talk on this subject has been viewed over a million times. She began developing these skills at a young age where she convinced Keanu Reeves to appear in an audition tape for a VJ job. She got Keanu, but didn’t get the job. We chat about the story behind that as well as all things rejection. This includes how to use rejection and failure to your advantage and why so many people are afraid of that “r” word. She shares her secret recipe for how to get and ask for anything you want in life and we also discuss how confidence affects your mindset and so much more! Jen’s Backstory: Fitness wasn't really Jen’s automatic go to. She always liked fitness because the principles that it taught her early on in life, but she never thought fitness would be the business. She had her first job with the Toronto Raptors, went back to school and got a business degree and then she went to the music business. She was in more marketing, and then when she was getting burnt out with those, she moved to LA from Canada. In LA, she was on a working visa and was working for mortal Records, which is part of Sony at the time. She had no option and was unsure about how to get money so she could have transitioned it into the fitness business. Jen always liked negotiating, strategy, and deal-making. These are the principles that she was naturally more gravitated to, and she naturally likes to do. She just kept on changing which business and industry she was actually doing, so she was doing sports and music and then just pivoted into the fitness business. Topics discussed: Jen’s rejection story How to successfully overcome rejection and failure Reasons why so many people are afraid of being rejected Knowing what you really want and where you’re good at The importance of asking The advantage of having confidence and how it affects your mindset Steps to be able to ask for what you want and how to do it The importance of self-awareness Putting personal efforts on something and its benefits Being resilient and its importance Why do you need to schedule the amount of time that you’re on social media Takeaways: You never know when people say yes. It doesn't really matter whatever industry you’re in. What's important is knowing what you're good at, and knowing what you're not good at, and making what works for you be your thing. If you're somebody who actually asks, your odds are better at getting it because no one else is asking. You are the CEO of your life. You are the master of your reality. Be as specific as possible, so start small and be specific. “I think that confidence, like anything else, is a muscle that you have to practice and harness.” Jen Cohen Connect with Jen: Habits and Hustle: https://habitshustle.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/therealjencohen/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therealjencohen/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/therealjencohen Ted Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM82hE6oimw Connect with Doug Instagram: www.instagram.com/dougbopst Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dougbopst Website: www.dougbopst.com/ Private Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/690686891674188 Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 93Dave Asprey - Why Fasting Improves Your Health

Why Fasting Improves Your Health!!!! When you hear the word fasting, what comes to mind? Am I going to starve? Is it good for my mental health? I can’t go 20 hours without eating. I hear you and I have thought all of those very same things. My guest today is here to calm your fears on all things fasting and help explain how each and every one of you can fast in a way that suits your lifestyle. My guest today is Dave Asprey, the “Father of Biohacking.” He is the Founder and Chairman of Bulletproof, a three-time New York Times bestselling science author and host of the award-winning podcast Bulletproof Radio. His newest book, Fast This Way is available now and provides incredible and valuable information on all things fasting and will inspire you to give fasting a second chance or try it out for the first time. Today, he delivers a masterclass on all things fasting and it's many benefits. We discuss how each of you can fast in a way that suits your lifestyle and how to get started. In addition, he shares how you can also fast from hate and negative thoughts. We also chat about biohacking and more! Dave’s Backstory: Dave weighed up to 300 pounds in his early 20s. He was famous for being the first one to sell anything over the internet, which is now called the E-commerce. He made $6 million when he was 26. Dave was a co-founder of a part of the company that held Google's first servers, and grew the company to be worth $36 billion on the NASDAQ. In spite of all the fame and money that he made, he wasn’t happy with his life and he always asks himself about why he keeps on making decisions that are against his own interests. He already tried everything to lose weight. He worked out an hour and a half a day, six days a week for 18 months straight on a low fat, low calorie diet, but still, he can’t lose weight. That’s when he realized he needed to hack it. Dave started hanging out with people three times his age who were reversing their age and learning their techniques to fix his own biology. Dave was frustrated because he was running that non-profit anti-aging group, and they're only four minutes from Google's headquarters, but they had only one guy from Google to ever attend -- and that was his uncle. Someone told him that if he did not eat six times a day, he’s going to be in starvation mode. His main problem with that idea was that he’s afraid of acting like a jerk just because he was hungry. So in 2008, he decided to hire a Shaman and he was dropped off in a cave. He wants no food and no people anywhere around so he’s just the only one who’s gonna have to deal with that. For Dave, that was a very amazing experience, because that’s the first time he’s ever done real quality journalism and storytelling. Topics discussed: Dave's newest book "Fast This Way" What is biohacking? The benefits of intermittent fasting The importance of investing in energy How to get started on fasting in a way that's going to be sustainable The three fasting hacks (black coffee, bulletproof coffee, and probiotic fiber) The mental health benefits of fasting The four F words explained (fear, food, “F”, and friend) The importance of empathy, compassion, and equanimity Benefits of fasting from negative thoughts Benefits of fasting from hate and how to do it successfully Dave’s tips on how people can incorporate fasting when they're following some sense of morning routine Takeaways: Coffee doubles ketone production. Ketones suppress the hunger hormone called ghrelin and they raise the satiety hormone called CCK. Fasting means your insulin didn't go up, and it means that your liver didn't have to turn on protein-digesting enzymes. If you want to improve your biology, you have to have enough energy to run your body and break down cells and build healthy new cells. The thing about fear is you don't think about fear. Fasting means training the body to feel safe by going without something. It makes you more powerful in your cells, in your nerves, in your brain, in your heart, in your body, and in your spirit. The only thing that you do have control over is your spiritual state. Fasting from hate is the hardest thing to do. What you eat drives hunger and cravings, depending on what it is. The very best time to work out is at the end of a fast. Ep 92Lisa Feldman Barrett - Neuroscientist Shares Common Myths About Your Emotions and How Your Brain Actually Works

Neuroscientist Shares Common Myths About Your Emotions and How Your Brain Actually Works!!! There's a whole science about how the human brain works and what really controls our feelings and emotional responses to situations and most of what we have been told about how this works in the past is wrong. My guest on this fantastic episode, Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett, Ph.D., is here to dismantle common myths about emotions and the brain. She stands among the top 1% most cited scientists globally for her revolutionary research in psychology and neuroscience. Dr. Barrett is a University Distinguished Professor at Northeastern University and she is also Chief Science Officer for the Center for Law, Brain & Behavior at Harvard University. She was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship in neuroscience in 2019, has published over 240 peer reviewed articles and has a TED talk on emotions that has been viewed over 6 million times. She is the best-selling author of "How Emotions are Made" and her latest book "7 1/2 Lessons about the Brain" is just as powerful. Some of the topics we cover today include: The old notion of the dynamics of emotions versus the new The real function of the human brain. How past experiences and behaviors affect the ability of our brains to guess responses to our external forces. Dr. Barrett thoughts on 'Stress' The power of words from a neurological point of view. Dr. Barrett explains Depression Adaptable patterns for a more optimistic approach to the future. Similarities between our "body budget" and "bank account" Takeaways There's no good evidence that emotions can be read or interpreted through facial expressions or body language. We have the kind of brain that doesn't have a good sense of what is happening in our bodies. Our brain has to guess. All it receives are the sensations coming from our bodies, but it doesn't know what's causing them. So when you have an ache in your chest, your brain tries to figure out what caused that ache. Our body makes the same guesses. Those guesses are usually knit together to create our experience. That's really how our brain is making emotions. You don't have circuits for anger, sadness, and fear embedded in some ancient part of your brain. That's just a myth. Your brains don't evolve to be any more rational than they are. Its function is to regulate your body's systems, and that's pretty much all it'll be doing all your life. Practice gratitude, compassion, and train your brain to be flexible so that you can view life from multiple perspectives. We are a social species, which means we influence each others' nervous systems in really profound ways. We regulate each other's nervous systems in many ways that other animals do too. But we have an additional way, and that's with words. Depression is like a bankrupt body budget. It means you have stopped learning, and you stick with what's in your head. You're fatigued and pay no more attention to what's out in the world. Two easy ways to shift your predictions for a more optimistic approach towards life: Change the state of your body. (Get up and move around) and practice gratitude. It works! Ep 91Ryan Michler - How to Deal with the Victim Mentality and Own Your Life

HOW TO DEAL WITH THE VICTIM MENTALITY AND OWN YOUR LIFE Life will present a thousand and one reasons for you to quit and give up when things get tough, but how you choose to respond to these challenges is the most significant power you have at your disposal, and that's taking responsibility! My guest today is Ryan Michler, host of the highly popular Order of Man Podcast. In this episode, he shares how he bounced out of some deep despair that included separating from his wife for 4 months which in turn saved his marriage that was headed for divorce. Ryan also found himself unhealthy on every level and decided to also use that time to transform his health from the inside out. Now, please bear in mind that taking responsibility and not playing the victim was the most incredible power he had to change everything. He also shares his intriguing story of growing up without a permanent father figure and how that didn't stop him from raising sons and being an amazing dad. He also shares some bulletproof advice on how to overcome the victim mindset and deal with criticism and so much more! Ryan's backstory A little over 13 years ago, Ryan was incredibly overweight and at the brink of getting divorced from his wife. Eventually, they got separated. It was a challenging time for him, and at some point in the early stage of the separation, he resorted to blaming his wife for the divorce. He felt there was a lot she could have done. He thought she was disloyal. It took him months into the separation to realize he had a considerable part to play as well. This realization transformed the situation around, and the break only lasted four months. Ryan had to quit playing the victim and "own" his life. He had to take responsibility for his life for the first time and stopped casting blame on everyone around him. He realized that there are things he could do right. There are things within his reach. There are things within his control and things he could influence. He realized he had more power over many things, and he began to effect changes on these things. As he said, that is what responsibility is about. It is the power that could change one's life. Not taking responsibility for the things happening around you is giving that power to someone else. What that person decides to do with that can have a negative effect on your life. The results of Ryan taking ownership of his life and shouldering the responsibility has restored his marriage. Ryan and his wife have been married now for 16 years. They are blessed with four beautiful kids and are living in their dream home. This all inspired to start his "Order of Man" podcast and movement to help men become the best version of themselves. Topics Discussed -Ryan's Advice on how to quit playing the victim -How fitness has shaped Ryan's general outlook on life -Ryan's take on on how to express emotions the right way - The best advice for new parents -How mentorship can speed up your journey to successes -Ryan's best practices for dealing with criticisms Some important takeaways -Want to see improvements in other facets of your life? Start with fitness. Fitness teaches you to have a structure in your life, builds your confidence as the rewards are usually instantaneous, especially for the men. -Apart from routine workouts, plan out every single day of your life. -Emotions are there as a metric check for you, just like a fuel tank. If you give your emotions too much power or don't give them enough credit, then they'll control you, and you don't want that! -Be more of a mentor and guardian to your children and do not make all the decisions for them. Allow them to make mistakes and learn. -Your life's journey can be less of a burden with a coach/mentor by your side. -Be willing to spend your resources to improve your life, unless you want to get it done by yourself with many mistakes and time wasted. -Take nothing personally and maintain your focus on those who are positively impacted by your work. Ep 90Lauryn Evarts Bosstick - The Skinny Confidential on How Overcoming Your Deepest Pain Can Lead to Authenticity, Purpose and Happiness

Taking responsibility for your choices in life is incredibly empowering. It also means you acknowledge that no one has the power to determine how your life turns out other than yourself! It's up to you! Today, my guest, Lauryn Evarts Bosstick (also known as The Skinny Confidential), and I will be sharing our challenging life stories to inspire you on how to turn your pain to purpose, ultimately leading you to find that inner fulfillment in your own life's journey. Lauryn shares her pretty tough upbringing involving death, divorce, despair, pain, and frustration. We also chat about how to set boundaries, the power of community, how she manages anxiety and also some tips on entrepreneurship and so much more. I also share parts of my story including chatting about being incarcerated and how it relates to the isolation that many of us are facing now. Lauryn has turned her passion for beauty, wellness, and no-censor advice into one of the most distinctive blogs online today, The Skinny Confidential. She also co-hosts the highly popular cheeky entrepreneurial podcast, The Skinny Confidential HIM & HER with her husband and previous podcast guest, Michael Bosstick. Lauryn's backstory She was blessed with really amazing parents who were both entrepreneurs and creatives, but eventually, things became a bit chaotic after her parents, like many, got divorced. The pain didn't stop there, Lauryn, at the young age of 18 lost her mother to suicide, this is why she is so passionate with mental health. While she had her struggles growing up, she believes those experiences shaped her into the person she has become and also fueled her pursuit of achieving greatness. Lauryn's success was sponsored by the decision not to play the victim but dictate her life outcomes by taking responsibility and extreme ownership for her decisions and choices. Some of the Topics discussed: -Lauryn's incredibly inspiring backstory -Managing anxiety to becoming the best version of yourself. -Lauryn's advice on setting boundaries, protecting your mental health, and protecting your space. -My jail experience compared with the lockdown period - Advice for budding entrepreneurs - Chasing after success in business the right way - Lauryn's advice to her younger self My jail experience compared with the lockdown period. I was incarcerated and had an oxycontin addiction to the point where half of my left nose was missing. I was constipated for a month. When it came out of my system, I was faced with me and me in jail, and all the masks came off. My emotions were as real and raw as ever, and I was forced to deal with them healthily. I was forced to start working out, to start practicing gratitude, and changing the way I talked to myself. Because of all that, I began to reattach behaviors. The difference now is that when I was in jail, I knew when I was getting out. I knew when my probation was up. Now [in the lockdown], there's so much uncertainty. Some people may never get to jail, but they will experience mental prison. Until you work through that stuff, you won't be able to experience true fulfillment. Not success, fulfillment! Ep 89Dr. Michael Gervais - The Advice You Need to Conquer Your Biggest Fears and Struggles

The Advice You Need to Conquer Your Biggest Fears and Struggles!!! Life has taught us it’s hard to suppress feelings of anxiety, apprehension and fear of the unknown. Undoubtedly, these emotions are what make us human, fallible, vulnerable. How we manage these 'so called' negative feelings and ultimately transform them into fuel for success is a skill worth mastering. Which is why my guest today, Dr. Michael Gervais, a world-renowned high performance sports psychologist and industry visionary, is bringing to us the technique of developing a psychological framework that allows you thrive and succeed in pressure-packed environments. In 2010, Gervais helped Austrian skydiver and BASE jumper, Felix Baumgardner complete an unimaginable, record-breaking free dive for Red Bull while Felix was struggling with claustrophobia and massive anxiety. Dr. Gervais is the host of the popular Finding Mastery podcast that explores the psychology of some of the world’s most extraordinary thinkers and doers. Gervais alongside Pete Carroll also co-authored an Audible Original, Compete to Create; a brilliant guide to mastering groundbreaking mindset trainings which will help readers unlock their authentic self, explore the edges of their potentials, and live a life of purpose and meaning. Today Dr. Gervais provides a masterclass on dealing with fear and anxiety and how to stop it in it’s tracks before it takes you down that dark scary rabbit hole many of us know all too well. We discuss how to bridge the gap between inspiration and action and how to train the mind so that you can respond to situations with logic and not emotion and so much more! Stay tuned in today’s episode for an incredible course giveaway that Dr. Gervais is doing for our listeners. Let's dive into the details of this insightful podcast Dr. Michael Gervais' two types of Anxiety: Cognitive Anxiety: This happens when you're ruminating about all the bad things that could go wrong and the excessive worry about later or what could happen and how we would respond. It's about trying to solve something that isn't yet happening. It is a massive asset to project forward based on everything you've ever experienced in life with an assessment of your internal capabilities matched up against what you think the future demand is going to be. That's cool and part of the prerequisite to enter into exploring your potential high performance living as well as the nuances of how you line up your thoughts, words and actions. Clinical Anxiety: The second part of anxiety is that your heart doesn't quite beat at the same rhythm of being relaxed. Your state of breathing changes. There’s muscle tension, digestive disorder and even ulcers because the system is in an edgy kind of irritability soup. It feels like you're shoving 10 pounds of stuff into a five pound bag. How do we avoid diving into the rabbit hole of fear and anxiety? Being anxious is a normal human experience. The excessiveness of it is where it becomes problematic. Your train of thought should be able to take you to places that are free and open and deeply engaging. If you accidentally get on the wrong train and that train of thought has taken you somewhere kind of scary and dark, get off that train quickly. That's the practice! However, if you find yourself on the wrong train and you want to get off, here's are pretty simple steps to take. Name the fear. Don't try to avoid it. Taking simple breaths sends signals to the ancient brain that the gorilla (trouble) has left Use your thoughts, come back to the now and guard your thoughts Look for opportunities to challenge your inner resolve. This then brings us to the importance of knowing your purpose in the first place... Dr. Michael Gervais on the importance of purpose: Not understanding purpose is one of the reasons people stop halfway during training. Without purpose, it's really hard to do the hard work and what you and I are talking about (facing fears and anxiety) is hard work. Get clear on your purpose and if that feels daunting, be clear on your purpose for the end of the year or for the end of the week. Dr. Michael Gervais on responding to situations based on logic not emotions: It's so important to be self-aware and to also take action based on logic and not emotions. To achieve that, learn to do some stuff on your mental training so that you can respond eloquently in more stressful environment. Take breathing trainings, practice gratitude, use your imagination more often project your future, be where your body is and work on your physical carriage. Dr. Gervais on bridging the gap between inspiration and action: There are 3 basic components to taking action. There is the Social Component, the Psychological Component and the Behavioral Component - The Social Component requires you getting a companion to achieve success. It could be a gym buddy, or someone committed to winning with you. - The Psychological Component demands that you get in touch with your humanity or s

She spent so much of those eight years reading PubMed research, and always went back to nutrition just was in love with it. Every year, she thinks to herself that she’s too old to go back to school, but her heart was always in nutrition and it was what she spent her time reading studies. She decided to go back to school and took her job full time. Kelly was so thirsty for the knowledge and was really excited to share tools with people. Ep 87Best of 2020 - Dr. Will Bulsiewicz - All About the Gut Microbiome and How to Strengthen Your Immune System Right Now

For this last week of 2020, each day we will be re-release one of the most popular episodes of the past year. We will resume our regular schedule with a new episode on 1/4/2021. Have a Happy Holiday and Happy New Year! Best of 2020 #1: Dr. Will Bulsiewicz - All About the Gut Microbiome and How to Strengthen Your Immune System Right Now (Originally released 12/14/20) All About the Gut Microbiome and How to Strengthen Your Immune System Right Now! Today, we are going to talk all about the gut microbiome and how to strengthen your immune system right now. Clearly, with everything going on with COVID-19, this episode couldn’t come at a better time. I’ve had the opportunity to talk to one of the best there is on this topic. Today's guest is Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, commonly known as Dr. B. He is an award-winning gastroenterologist and the author of the New York Times bestselling book, Fiber Fueled. Many might not know this, but our gut is connected to almost every part of our body including our brain. Did you know that 90% of our serotonin and 50 % of our dopamine is produced in our gut? So sometimes when we feel stressed, anxious, and depressed, this all might be tied directly to having an unhealthy gut. It’s incredibly fascinating as is the fact that 70% of our immune system is in our gut as well. This is why we should really be paying attention to our gut health more than ever as COVID-19 impacts so many people with underlying health issues and weaker immune systems. In this episode, Dr. B will explain everything you need to know about the gut microbiome, how our gut health impacts things such as COVID-19, our immune system, and mental health. He will also explain the secret to how you can discover how healthy your gut is in the comfort of your and his tip for this will cost you absolutely nothing other than some time. Finally, he will also provide the blueprint of what you can do right now to optimize your gut health and strengthen your immune system plus so much more. Dr. B’s Backstory: Dr. B already knew when he was a teenager that he wanted to be a doctor. He’s always been an idealist, and what he really wanted to do was to help kids, particularly the adolescent and teenage kids, because he feels like they're overlooked and they deserve more attention in this transformative period in their life. So he initially set on a path to go to medical school so that he could become a child psychiatrist. During Dr. B’s journey to become a doctor, he suddenly fell in love with gastroenterology. At the age of 30, everything went well for his career. He was the chief medical resident at Northwestern in Chicago, one of the top internal medicine residency in the country. He won the highest award in his residency class and published eight papers in gastroenterology journals. Of all those achievements, he still felt miserable. He hated himself. And that’s when he realized that it’s all about the diet that he was raised, which was the very classic “1980s diet” -- hotdogs, Doritos, Kool Aid, bagel bites. He gained 50 pounds, had low energy, super low self-esteem and high blood pressure. He did some exercise like what most guys do, but everything changed when he started dating his wife who’s on a very clean diet. Out of curiosity, he followed that thread and started making small changes. He noticed that he instantly felt better. He didn't have the hangover after meals, he was energized, his skin started to change, and his hair got thicker. His weight also started falling of as well. Those changes inspired him so much that he became obsessed with digging into the medical literature. He became a believer because of the way that it transformed his own life. He felt that his patients deserved it too. So he brought that into his clinic, and saw similar amazing and transformative results with them. In 2016, he just felt compelled to share the story, but also felt that it wasn’t enough. That’s the reason why he created his Instagram account. He didn’t expect so much in the beginning, so when he reached 1,000 followers, Dr. B and his wife celebrated and popped a bottle of champagne. Fast forward, his book called “Fiber Fueled” came out in May this year, and it's a New York Times bestseller. Today, they're closing in on 100,000 copies and it’s only a little over six months since the book came out. Now that you already know Dr. B’s backstory, take a look at these very interesting topics and lessons we discussed: The meaning of the gut microbiome Why stress and the gut microbiome go hand in hand with each other The different ways our gut can communicate with our brain The antagonistic pleiotropy The connection between gut microbiome and COVID-19 Things that people can do to strengthen their gut and immune system The special connection between our gut microbes and fiber Why do people need to pay attention to where they're getting the fiber from The importance of the diversity of plants in your diet Bonus: smoothie recipe of Dr. B’s wife The

Ep 86Best of 2020 - David Sinclair - Modifying Our Lifestyle to Reverse Aging

For this last week of 2020, each day we will re-release one of the most popular episodes of the past year. We will resume our regular schedule with a new episode on 1/4/2021. Have a Happy Holiday and Happy New Year! Best of 2020 #2: David Sinclair - Modifying Our Lifestyle to Reverse Aging (Originally released 6/9/2020) Dr. David Sinclair: Modifying Our Lifestyle to Reverse Aging Today I’m incredibly honored to host Dr. David Sinclair. David is a professor in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. He’s the author of New York’s Times best-seller Lifespan, a book with insights on why we age, and how we can slow and even reverse aging. A top innovator, David was in 2014, named on Time Magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, and listed as Time's Top 50 in healthcare in 2018. David’s inspiration growing up David grew up with his grandmother, who was a constant believer in his abilities and always motivated him to set and shoot for his life-goals and he will always achieve them. In an unfair world filled with cruel and mischievous people, David’s grandmother always reminded him to be grateful and generous where he could. To always do whatever he can to make the world a better place than it is. David owes a lot of current success and grit to this background and claims that every no one needs a positive environment of someone who believes in them, and they too can set to achieve greatness. Hormesis: Using exercise and healthy eating to fight aging. Being a trained geneticist, you’d think that David would vouch for DNA as the major contributing factor for your health and wellness destiny. But oh no, the key to this, David says is the epigenome The epigenome is the real powerhouse and determinant of our lifestyle i.e how much we sleep, mental stress, physical fitness etc. A study on identical twins held in Denmark supports this claim, with the findings suggesting that we only inherit from our parents 20% in terms of the predictability of our long-term health. The key to better physical and mental health and ultimately slow aging, David states, is through exercise and healthy eating. As for exercise - do anything that gets your breathing level up for at least 15 minutes Exercising triggers the longevity genes which regulate the epigenome - which is in control of how we age. Healthy eating also triggers the epigenome, resulting in similar effects. Healthy eating and numerous benefits of fasting. It’s no surprise that what we eat is a big contributor of how our health turns out to be. However, what always seems to be left out, is how to eat. Having 3 meals a day and zero exercise has a reverse effect on your mind.Your brain loves being relaxed - just sitting down and having snacks is all you need - By giving in to this kind of lifestyle, you’re sacrificing your body’s ability to fight diseases and aging. Because your body gets the message from the brain that it’s very safe and there’s plenty of security and food to eat. So you relax, and the defense modes switch off. It’s for this reason that obese people who don’t exercise, not only look older, but are actually older. Fasting triggers the longevity genes as well. Through fasting, the body is tricked into thinking there isn’t enough resources to live on. Amino acids are also restricted and the epigenome is activated too. Types of foods David suggests you should take when fasting. You don’t want foods with a lot of sugar - as they make you get hungry faster Don’t be too rough on yourself - one milkshake isn’t bad (as long as you’re consistent) Best meal for him is a salad with a bit of olive oil on it or vinegar Protein is good in small amounts. Green leafy vegetables and practice Hormesis i.e If your plants are stressed before you eat them you get the benefit. So you don’t have to do it yourself. You can eat plants; That have grown without much rain or water in the environment. With bugs on them Dr. David Sinclair’s Adversity - Growing from the failures and setbacks he’s been through There’s no way to be successful without massive amounts of adversity, criticisms, failures and mistakes, claims David. We don’t have all the answers, and aren’t perfect either. Failure is part of the journey. And as David shares his lowest point in life, he certainly owes a lot of his current progress and success as a result of embracing and his setbacks and learning from them. David saw his mom die in front of him, which was of course, a big blow to him, both emotionally and psychologically. But it’s the career setback he really digs into and narrates on the show. Close to the tip of being sacked and losing his reputation (which for scientists is everything) A 41 year old David was completely battered, beaten and destroyed. When he was 34 years old, David and his team had just uncovered a huge biological milestone through a breakthrough which seemed too easy and good to be true. And so they patented it. 7 years down the line. David would face so much

Andrew’s Journey Andrew had a great start to his life. His mother wrote children’s books and his father was a theoretical physicist. Everything in Andrew’s life was going very well, until he turned 13 and his parents separated. When his dad left, Andrew’s mother began to experience stress. At about the same time that Andrew’s parents separated, his older sister had just left for college. This left him to face life’s obstacles all alone, and reality took a sudden turn for Andrew. With everything changing so fast in Andrew’s life, he turned to skateboarding as a way to handle and relieve the stress. It was while skateboarding in Embarcadero, San Francisco that Andrew started to meet new friends, most of whom were growing up without much parental control or influence. This is when Andrew began to recognize that kids growing up without two parent families, lived lives that were more chaotic than other kids with more normal home lives. As Andrew entered puberty, he started skipping school, and from the ages of 14-17, most of his time was spent either skateboarding or with his girlfriend. As time went by, Andrew also turned to boxing as another tool to handle his stress. Andrew was ultimately kicked out of school because of the constant troubles that accompanied his presence. He was offered a chance to resume his studies under the condition of going to therapy. The therapist was of great help, demonstrating to Andrew that there was a better way for him to structure his life. By adding certain types of life tools and structure to his life, Andrew learned that he could achieve the life he was craving internally without relying solely on fighting, boxing and skateboarding. Once Andrew returned to school he started to play football, where his football coach advised Andrew to start running and lifting weights as a way to build his frail body. Always curious and self-driven, Andrew began to lift weights. He fell in love with the body that he was crafting through his new hobby. His great physique ultimately pushed him into being a firefighter as a way to make a living. With his girlfriend moving to college, Andrew would sleep outside of her dorm in the parking lot as a way to stay close with the most intimate friend he had. Slowly, his old habits of fighting started to re-enter his life. On July 4th 1994, after getting into a fight in the small town of Isla Vista, Andrew found himself considering the direction in which his life was headed. Walking back home from the fight, Andrew decided to change his life for the better permanently. He started by enrolling in a local community college and dedicated himself to achieving excellence in weight lifting, running, reading and studying. What followed was a metamorphosis into an organized and self-driven individual. While at the community college, Andrew started taking Psycho-Biology (now known as Neuroscie

Ep 83Best of 2020 - Shaman Durek - Transforming Your Life Through Spiritual Hacking

For this last week of 2020, each day we will re-release one of the most popular episodes of the past year. We will resume our regular schedule with a new episode on 1/4/2021. Have a Happy Holiday and Happy New Year! Best of 2020 #5: Shaman Durek - Transforming Your Life Through Spiritual Hacking (Originally released 7/6/2020) Are you ready to completely change your perceptions on reality and experience change like never before? If so, then I’ve got two words for you Shaman Durek. In hands down one of the most soul stirring interviews I’ve ever had, stay tuned into the show and be a part of an uplifting biohacking experience that is certain to change your views on everything you know and believe in. About Shaman Durek Although he was destined to be a Shaman because of his lineage. Durek had at one point in his life completely pushed the thought of becoming a Shaman away. Durek then went on a walkabout and chose otherwise, thus becoming the shaman he is today. Descendent from the West African country of Ghana. Durek’s ancestors were the village medicine people. As a result of slave trade and colonialism. Durek’s ancestors ended up practicing Lukumi (The merging of African shamanism and modern Catholicism) The merge has had its challenges since the two (African Shamanism and Catholicism) really contradict each other. Durek for example has always had a view of Shamanism as freedom, liberation, acknowledgment and relationship with everything around you. On the other hand, Durek views religion as a clause. With consequences as a result of the choices you make. Growing up and going to school in America was always tough for Durek. Sharing his experience of seeing, feeling and talking to spirits had other kids label him as crazy or evil. It’s thus been a long journey of trying to incorporate shamanism into the mainstream for him. The principles of Shamanism You as a human being, already have higher consciousness within you. The only problem is that you haven’t aligned your synapsis and neurological system in order to input the frequencies and codes in your body. Distractions and inflammations from the environment you are subjected in, is what’s preventing this alignment from happening. Shamanism is about enhancement and elevation. To accomplish this, you first need to closely observe your reality and remove the resistance and constrictions that are stopping you from being fully optimized. These constrictions are belief systems are as a result of what you’ve been taught to understand about yourself and the world you live in. They press against you and prevent your freedom. Constrictions include; fears, doubts, shame, guilt, worry, insecurities etc Once you face these constrictions, you’ll be able to operate in autonomy. Your happiness and freedom will no longer be tied down to other people or activities. Because you are the source of everything you experience. Blackout. This is a time when magnetic energy frequencies begin to lift the sediment of things that you have hidden away from your consciousness and society. A blackout experience is an opportunity to figure out how to stop reacting to everything, and instead, pull deeper into love, acceptance and understanding. Everything we achieve in life is based on getting acknowledged, noticed, heard, seen, appreciated, valued etc. The black out experience is about learning to break out from this culture. Instead of hustling and operating under the fear of lacking something, and motivation to get somewhere, you should instead, see yourself as aligned and magnetically drawing everything you need towards you. The trajectory for success is through cooperation, communication, engagement and authenticity. If you can apply these principles, then you will be able to come out on the other side as a success. Why don’t people embrace the Blackout experience then? Because we are naturally designed to be safe. We are all egocentric control freaks as a result of the system we’ve been programmed to live in. The key to breaking free is enhancing your spiritual immunity instead of safety. The Law of Duality There’s different polarities that are present in our planet. These polarities are acknowledged by a certain group of people or by an individual more than in other groups or individuals. We have all, as result, created a very dualistic way of viewing life. Duality has become a tool to understand reality, which of course, is all wrong. For example, the idea of what’s right or wrong is different in every society, subjective to their belief systems and environment. Because of this duality, we are stuck in the past and forget that we are changing. The reality of consciousness isn’t anything that’s dual or solid, rather it’s something that is fluid and transformable. Because the system is ever changing and evolving. Once you accept this reality, then you can be synergetic. You will be liberated from all the attachments, labels, ideas and conditions that have been forced on you subconsciousl

Ep 82Best of 2020 - Lori Gottlieb - How to Improve Your Mental Health Right Now

For this last week of 2020, each day we will be re-release one of the most popular episodes of the past year. We will resume our regular schedule with a new episode on 1/4/2021. Have a Happy Holiday and Happy New Year! Best of 2020 #6: Lori Gottlieb - How to Improve Your Mental Health Right Now (Originally released 9/28/20) COVID-19 challenged not only the physical strength of those who suffered from it, but also the mental health of many people suffering from depression due to lack of social connections and interactions. Are you one of those who feel so lonely during this pandemic? Do you question yourself why you always feel like something’s wrong with you? Then you must hear what my guest says about these. My guest today is none other than Lori Gottlieb. She is a psychotherapist and a writer. She is the author of the book “Maybe You Should Talk To Someone” and writes the weekly “Dear Therapist” advice column for The Atlantic. A quick overview about how Lori became a therapist: Lori started working in the entertainment business because she loved stories and the human condition. So whether that was through film and labor through television, she really felt like the reason that people watch those shows and the reason that they make people laugh or cry is because the stories are about being human. And then she worked in a real ER, where she spent a lot of time, because they used that to do research. And their consultant on the show, who was an ER physician said, “You know, I think you'd like it better here than you might in your day job.” Being skeptical at first, Lori still ended up going up to Stanford for medical school. And when she got there, managed care was just coming into play. And she realized that she wasn't going to be able to really spend time with her patients in the way that she wanted to. So she started writing, in a way to help people to tell their stories. Then she left medical school to become a journalist. And after working as a journalist, she had a baby. And she felt really disconnected from other adults during the day, because she loved her child. And for sure, new parents can relate to that feeling -- the need to connect with other people who can speak. So she called up the dean at Stanford Medical School, and said she maybe needs to come back and do psychiatry. And the dean said, “You're welcome to come back. But you'd be doing mostly medication management. And you really want those longer term, deeper connections. So why don't you get a graduate degree in clinical psychology, and then you could do the kind of work that you've always talked about doing.” So that's what Lori did. And she feels like she went from telling people stories as a journalist, to helping people to change their stories, as a therapist. Right now, she still does both. She writes books, she has a weekly column, she has a podcast, and she has a clinical practice. And everything she does is all about a story in the human condition. What does isolation do to people's mental health? As humans, we want to be connected to other people. And even in pre COVID times, Lori thinks that there was a sort of epidemic of loneliness happening because she sees it with her patients. A lot of the times what happens is we’re kind of distracted by all of these things that are not nourishing to us. And we don't realize how disconnected we are. People feel anxious, sad, angry, having difficulty in relationships, and having insomnia or addiction. Whatever is happening, people are looking for something else to fill the hole of what really needs to be where connection would go. So during this time, people are really struggling, because they didn't have a lot of practice. And they didn't cultivate those connections. And now, the silver lining to this pandemic is that people are really saying, “Wait a minute, I need to prioritize the connections in my life, and I need to prioritize the connections that matter.” Idiot Compassion vs. Wise Compassion Idiot compassion is what we do with our friends. Our friends will tell us a story, and then we'll say, “Yeah, you were right. They were wrong. That's terrible.” which just reinforces our very narrow view of a particular situation. Wise compassion is what people can get in therapy. We hold up a mirror to someone, and help them to see something about themselves that maybe they haven't been willing or able to do before. Productive Anxiety vs. Unproductive Anxiety Productive Anxiety is when you are reasonably worried about something and it's productive, because it makes you take action to protect yourself. And so we are reasonably worried about getting COVID, so we are wearing masks, we are socially distancing and doing other things that we need to do to take care of our physical immune systems. Unproductive Anxiety is an obsessive rumination. It's like the distraction from doing something productive. You're just ruminating about something and it might not even be about COVID. It might be about that t

During his time of service, George encountered many other demons while in the military including nearly losing both of his legs, 6 surgeries and also developed an opiate addiction. An abrupt departure was soon to follow along with a bunch of trauma and PTSD. George then like many began to find healing through the power of health and wellness. George then started a popular food blog called the civilized caveman and he didn’t stop there. He then ended up starting an app and even became a New York Times best selling author. Some may think this would lead to eternal happiness, but instead, it led him down a darker path. George was still hiding from his past and it began to haunt him. This also included his battle with bulimia. He ended up voluntarily checking himself into a hospital, which was a much needed first step to force him to start dealing with the trauma and PTSD that was swept under the rug for much of his life. Ep 80Grant Cardone - From Drug Addict to Undercover Billionaire, The Secret Journey of the 10x Man

Today’s guest is none other than Grant Cardone. He is a New York Times Best Selling Author of 11 books including the 10x rule and If You’re Not First, You’re Last. He is also a serial entrepreneur and owns and operates seven privately held companies, and a private equity real estate firm, Cardone Capital, with a multifamily portfolio of assets worth over $2 billion. He is the top crowdfunder in the world, having raised over $500 million on social media. Moreover, he was named the #1 marketer to watch in 2017 by Forbes Magazine. Grant uses his massive 15 million plus following to give back via his Grant Cardone Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring underprivileged and troubled youth in financial literacy. He will give incredible tips on how to overcome not only addiction, but any other setbacks, and the value of owning your choices, taking responsibility, and knowing that your identity can change. He will make us realize that you do not always have to be that victim that messes up, and that you can be something great and experience massive success. If you’ve experienced some struggles related to any of those mentioned, then this episode is for you! Grant’s Backstory: Grant was a danger to himself, his family, his reputation, and it was not good and was very painful for him not just because of drugs, but how he felt for himself. The issue for him was when he went to treatment, people were like, “Look. You're powerless, and your life is unmanageable.” But Grant thought that if he’s powerless, how is he going to go create the rest of his life? And that was the one thing he always struggled with. He then realized that if his only game was just to stay clean and sober for the rest of his life, he’s just gonna end up back on drugs again, because he needed to replace that thing he was doing with a new thing that he wanted to do, and that was good. In the beginning, his big problem was really just boredom and a lack of direction and inspiration. He never dreamed about where he is now today, but he knew he was capable more than he was doing. Grant certainly knew he was capable more than being just a “druggie.” He had to quit that, to find and be where he is right now. More of Grant’s stories as he shares his answers to these questions and topics: Was there ever a specific moment in Grant’s life when he’s absolutely positive that he would overcome the addiction and never go back to it? Grant’s experience with the people who always doubt his capability The story when Grant can’t even do a pull up How did Grant get into fitness Grant’s routine to stay in shape Grant’s advice to the people who fall into the comparison trap The 10X Rule: The Only Difference Between Success and Failure Read this book to achieve "Massive Action" results and accomplish your business dreams! The 10 x rule is basically a multiplier that's saying, “Hey, I don't have to depend on one of anything. I can get a lot of things going and help people reach out to a lot of people, not just drug addicts, not just one group of people, but I can help a whole lot other people that maybe don't have the drug problem, but that have a money problem, or that have a physical, they're not taking care of themselves physically, or they're not contributing back to society enough. I want to build the help in all those arenas, not just a small group of people.” Takeaways: “Anybody that's actually able to get through an addiction, if you can really harness the energy and power around it, the ability to be obsessed with a target, the ability to get something no matter how hard it is, and no matter what the obstacles are, if you can convert that energy into something positive, you are unstoppable threat for great things.” -Grant Cardone Being ignored is way worse than being lambasted. Don’t worry about haters, but worry about people that can’t even see you and can’t even acknowledge you because that just means that you're not doing anything, and you're not doing enough to have anybody actually be annoyed by you. You just need to be happy with what you’re doing, and not be satisfied with the potential to do more and help out more people. Something Tracy has gone through recently that has been challenging for her, and how she got through it Tracy’s advice for her young self to navigate through her fear Takeaways: When you're true to yourself more often, the answers just come so much easier. You have to really look at yourself in the mirror every day and see exactly who you are, whether or not you choose to share that person with everybody else. Being self-aware is all about recognizing your faults, taking ownership of the mistakes that you make, and the failures that you have in relationships and communication, and learning from that. Having self awareness is kind of understanding what your weaknesses are, as well as your strengths -- and that's a complete person. Being confident it starts with working out and feeling good. Do deal with failure, it's important to kind of have that emotion, go through it, feel it 100% and then move the hell on from it and leave it. Trust your gut and actually use it every single time you're in a human interaction. When you feel something, speak it. Period. Ep 78Dr. Will Bulsiewicz - All About the Gut Microbiome and How to Strengthen Your Immune System Right Now

All About the Gut Microbiome and How to Strengthen Your Immune System Right Now! B’s wife The Bristol Stool Chart The different types of bowel movement The effect on trauma in the gut How Dr. B and his team help the patients who were victims of trauma and abuse Inflammation in the gut Fiber Fueled by Dr. B: “Fiber Fueled is so much more than a health book. It’s a step-by-step methodology to stop the misinformation madness caused by the diet industry, and show

Ep 77Daniella Monet and Andrew Gardner - Former Nickelodeon Star and Coffee Guru on Adulting, Mental Health and Entrepreneurship

Adulting Like a Mother Father Co-Hosts Daniella Monet and Andrew Gardner join me on the show today! You may recognize Daniella Monet from her days as a former Nickelodeon star including a main role on the show, “Victorious” alongside Ariana Grande and Victoria Justice, and others. The show ended up winning the Nickelodeon Kids Choice awards twice and was also nominated for 4 Emmys. While many young stars find themselves spiraling down a dark path after experiencing fame, Daniella, fortunately, wasn’t one of them. She has created a new path for herself that includes entrepreneurship, motherhood and co-hosting the popular Adulting Like a Mother Father podcast with her fiance, Andrew Gardner, which I had the absolute pleasure of being a guest on. You are going to want to go to check it out. Andrew has a story of his own, which we will dive more into during the show. But, just to give you some context, he is a former CPA turned entrepreneur and coffee guru. He took that leap of faith and left the business world to pursue his dreams of making a difference in the world through being a father and starting a company of his own, Drew Coffee. Drew Coffee is a single batch sustainably roasting company that was recently released a few weeks ago that Andrew considers his “second baby” (PS they have another human on the way). Andrew and I have developed a friendship over these last few months and actually had the chance to grab a coffee with him last time I was in LA. If you are having a hard time making decisions to get to the place where you want to be, and you’re always comparing your status to other people’s lives, then you must listen to this episode. Daniella and Andrew will make us realize that knowing what you really want, loving what you do, and being happy for other people’s achievements will give us genuine happiness and contentment. Topics we discussed: How Daniella and Andrew met each other Daniella’s story about what she missed out when she was in and out of school at the age of 13 How working full time in the entertainment industry at the age of 15 affected Daniella’s mental health Why Daniella thinks many young stars spiral downward What are the things Daniella does to lift herself up and how she pivoted out of acting Andrew’s backstory from college to being an entrepreneur How Daniella and Andrew started their podcast Andrew’s story about his decision to stop drinking Comparison trap, and how they dealt with it Other things that shifted Daniella’s energy into continuing her own journey Daniella’s explanation about what plant-based means How Andrew and Daniella deal with COVID Meditations they both do What’s next for Andrew Gardner and Daniella Monet? Adulting Like a Mother Father The focus is to ask questions that get people thinking about what they can do themselves versus looking for validation, what they can do to move forward, and whatever they've been dealing with in their lives, how do they succeed in adulting. Drew Coffee They use an air roasting process, which is a lot cleaner for the environment. It's ethically sustainably sourced from smallholder producers who own less than 25 acres. So these aren't these massive farms and their farming practices are typically done in organic fashion, they may not have the certs just because of the cost and paperwork factor. But the work is still done that way. Takeaways: In the entertainment industry, where a lot of people are very self centric, you have to be super mindful of who you're hanging out with, and whether they have your best interests at heart at the end of the day. The important thing is to never close yourself off to other opportunities. “I'm more happy with my family, my kid, focusing on our businesses, focusing on fitness, coffee, specifically. They fill me up. They make me feel way better than a drink does. And so for me, at this point in my life, it's enough for me to say, I don't really need it because there's plenty else out there for me.” -Andrew Gardner It's not always easy. But that (applauding others for their success) is the only way you're gonna get what you want in life. There's no other way around it. If you think about your time ending at some point, and where you're at right now, if it's not where you want to be, you’ve got to do the things to get where you want to be in that short amount of time, because it's ending at some point. Ep 76Robin Sharma - How To Turn Your Pain into Success

How To Turn Your Pain into Success! “If we would only do our own part and reclaim that inner heroism, then we wouldn't have to wait for these heroes that we're all waiting for, to lead us to better days.” -Robin Sharma I am sure you will today's guest as he is an icon in the personal development world. You certainly may have read heard of his books or maybe you have come across his inspirational content online. But, today I am trying to take our conversation down a new path and really get deep into the mind of Robin Sharma. Robin Sharma is one of the top leadership experts in the world and has written books that have sold over 15,000,000 copies. His clients include rock stars, royalty, billionaires, celebrity CEOs, and companies such as Starbucks, Nike, GE, The Coca-Cola Company, NASA and Microsoft. All the things he will be sharing with us will hit you differently and will surely blow your mind! Interesting topics we talked about: Why people should cultivate a morning routine and how it can not only help them, but transform their life Robin’s view on pain and how to move through it in a way that can help people become a better version of themselves Robin’s view on mindset and why it's just as important to work on the other three interior empires: Heartset Healthset Soulset The 20/20/20 formula Move Reflect Grow How can somebody actually achieve greatness if they really want to? How to rewire the brain program and change the bad habits or the way they talk to themselves that have been robbing them from joy and peace in their life The best way to pivot from a bad day The advantage of limiting the use of phone for social media The cognitive bandwidth Takeaways: Rising at 5am is the period of greatest quietude in this age of dramatic distraction. Internal mastery or personal mastery precedes every other type of mastery. Your beliefs drive your behavior. Genius is less about genetics and more about your daily habits. If you want to change your bad habits, take note of the following: Ask yourself, “What does your terroir look like?” Terroir is what makes a great wine. Robin talked about it and used this word in a very meaningful way. Listen to this episode to know what this means! Remove the joy stealers from your life. 1% wins. Small, daily, seemingly insignificant improvements, when done consistently over time, lead to stunning results. Meditation is powerful. Under every excuse lives a fear. And if you recite your excuses long enough, you actually believe they are true. Remember that even in this time of intense suffering during the pandemic, there is so much to be grateful for. It's important to develop your own scoreboard for success. It’s important to develop your own accounting system for winning. Your story is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Changing your story about who you are and what do you want to stand for in the world is the beginning of transforming your performance. Ep 75Natalie Jill - The Secret To Overcoming Limiting Beliefs

The Secret To Overcoming Limiting Beliefs If you are struggling to change the way you talk to yourself or feel that you are having a hard time reaching your goals, overcoming your limiting beliefs will help you change all of that! Being unable to believe in yourself and being always doubtful about your capabilities are two of the most common struggles people are trying to deal with these days. Many of us are having a hard time shifting from thinking negative things about ourselves, to staying optimistic and believing that we can achieve anything we want. I believe in order to overcome those struggles you must take responsibility for yourself and seize your power back. So today’s conversation is going to focus on doing just that. So I’d like to welcome Natalie Jill to the podcast today. You may recognize Natalie Jfrom her online fitness programs, her book or her Leveling Up podcast or through her content on social media where she reaches millions of people. Natalie is a Fat Loss Expert turned high-performance coach. She helps women change their conversation around age, potential, and possibility. She does this through simple and fun unique methods that are super relatable to anyone. I know she mainly helps women, but if you are a male and listening to this we can all relate to what she shares including the secrets to overcoming limiting beliefs, creating anything you want from nothing, the blessings of being real and raw, why you need to lose the victim mindset and also her incredible story of overcoming some major turmoil in her life.... 13 years ago, Natalie was a divorced single mom, broke, overweight, in debt, and had lost her house and her confidence. She has been through a lot, but these challenges didn’t stop her. Instead, she used them as a motivation to completely turn her life around. She started sharing what she’s going through and telling people what she is doing about it. That’s how she attracted people following along because there are tons of people who can relate to her story. With all the challenges Natalie has gone through, how exactly did she use those experiences to help her with what she does with coaching and helping people improve How did Natalie manage to deal with all the hardships she has gone through and stay positive during the crazy times Creating anything you want from nothing Victim mindset Ownership and personal responsibility How to pivot out of the false assumed truth (FAT) during COVID How does DVA (decide, vision, action) work? Natalie’s parenting style as a single mom to her daughter COVID’s impact on Natalie’s business Natalie’s thoughts about what’s holding women back from seeing results in their lives The biggest blessing from being real and raw online Takeaways: Sharing your struggles about hardships and sharing what you're doing about it is empowering. We all have a purpose and we make our own luck. Everything, especially when it comes to our bodies, and health and fitness, it's all mindset-related. We can be an entirely different person by changing just three things: Your thoughts Your actions Your habits It is always our responsibility. It is no one else’s fault. Ep 74James Nestor - How You Breathe May Be Destroying Your Health

What if I told you the way you breathe could potentially be destroying your health?! I got your attention didn’t I? Don’t be scared I have just the guest today on the show, that I will introduce in a moment that is going unpack all things on “the breath” and help inspire you to breathe properly so that you can improve your ability to function cognitively, mentally, emotionally and physically. Today’s guest is James Nestor, an author and journalist who has written for Scientific American, Outside, The New York Times, and more. His latest book, Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art was released earlier this year and was an instant New York Times and London Sunday Times bestseller. Breath explores how the human species has lost the ability to breathe properly--and how to get it back. This is a book I could not put down once I started and It was absolutely “breath taking” for so many reasons..no pun intended. Breath will be translated into more than 30 languages in 2021. Nestor has spoken at Stanford Medical School, the United Nations, Global Classroom, and appeared on more than 60 radio and television shows, including Fresh Air with Terry Gross, the Joe Rogan Show, and more. Be ready to have your mind blown by the wisdom James shares which is all based on his research and experience. Show Notes: Many of us might not know that breathing has a huge impact on our physical, mental and emotional health. But, it’s how we breathe that is the most critical. Having James on this show will absolutely be helpful for us to know the importance of proper breathing in our daily life. The reason why James decided to study about breathing is because back then, even though he was doing all the right things to become healthy, he still suffered from a lot of respiratory illnesses such as constant bronchitis, mild pneumonia, and wheezing. He thought that getting sick was just normal because he lives in the city, until his doctor suggested for him to take a breathing class. And that’s how it all started. You will be enlightened by the results of the experiment James and his team conducted. He will be showing us facts as we talk about the following topics: The importance of nostril breathing and why we are breathing wrong The findings in doing the experiment where he plugged his nose for 10 days and how it impacted: Blood pressure Heart rate Sleep Fatigue Anxiety Mental capabilities Stress How breathing affects three struggles people are facing during these days: Immunity Stress Sleep The damages mouth breathing can do to our nose muscles The correlation with breath work and helping people heal from trauma and/or grief that are usually the reasons why people get into drug addiction James’ experience with managing his own stress levels The importance of holding our breath and what it does as a whole on our body How to properly breathe to calm your anxiety The Book “Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art” Everyone can relate to James’ book because we all breathe. Basically, what James is trying to encapsulate in this book is to describe to people that there's this amazing resource right in the front of our faces — and that is proper breathing. Takeaways: Breathing is a pillar of health. It is the thing that ties all of the different systems of the body together. Our nose is our first line of defense for our health. We have to understand our physiology, how our body processes air, how gas exchange works, how oxygen feeds our hungry cells. And once we understand that, we can really appreciate why it's so important to breathe correctly. If we can become aware of our breath, we can then take control of it. What breath holding allows us to do is become more comfortable with the increase of CO2. When we take control of our breathing, we can influence all our organs’ functions down to our immune systems. Ep 72Apolo Ohno - Why You Must Deal with Your Mental Health Before You Achieve Greatness

Why You Must Deal with Your Mental Health Before You "Make it." There are so many people that believe they will be eternally satisfied once they have "made it." How many times have you said or heard someone say when I get into a new relationship, I will experience happiness or whenever I hit my salary goal or have financial success I will get out of this rut. We hear that stuff time and time again and we all know that it can make us happy short term, but then our old habits and patterns come back. If you aren’t happy with the person you see in the mirror, none of that other stuff matters. So I encourage you to really pay attention to what my guest today has to say and our discussion in why you have to take care of your mental and emotional health and not focus so much on things externally. Today, I had the opportunity to chat with Apolo Ohno — America's most decorated Winter Olympic Athlete of all time, best selling author and highly sought after keynote speaker (he also won Dancing With the Stars). In this episode, you will gain a lot of life changing lessons based on his personal experience. We get into many topics such as the importance of managing your mental health, how to navigate transitions, dealing with pain and failure, his best practices and so much more. Show Notes: When we hear the word “athlete”, the first thing that comes to our minds is that we expect them to be strong and capable of staying focused and be well-driven, especially those who are at the peak of their career. Little did we know, they’re also struggling with mental health problems. Apolo will be talking about the Olympians’ struggles and the HBO documentary The Weight of Gold that premiered this past summer that showcases how the pressure of being an olympian can massively impact your mental health. It also encourages people to ask for help and not be afraid to open up if they are struggling mentally. As a dedicated mental health advocate, he will make us understand that this anyone can have battles with their mental health. It doesn’t matter who you are or how much you have achieved. He will also be sharing some points that can enlighten everyone about where the struggles of an athlete usually come from Just like all of us, one of the biggest parts of the adversity of being an Olympian athlete is that they are unsure of what’s going to happen once everything they currently have is all gone — may it be material things, money, or fame. Apolo will give his insights about how important it is to immediately identify your strengths and weaknesses, understand the process, and be willing to embrace change so that you’ll know what to do once you have decided to move on to the next chapter of your life. Apolo also encourages the listeners to constantly ask this question: "What do you want from life and what does life want from you?" We all need to know our purpose and meaning. We just have to take time to reflect, and look within. Quote: “What's being thrown at you is out of your control. How you respond, react, and maneuver through this life experience is powerful, and it is within your control.” -Apolo Ohno Connect with Apolo: Website: https://apoloohno.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/apoloohno/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/ApoloOhno Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ApoloOhnoOfficial Connect with Doug Instagram: @dougbopst Facebook: Doug Bopst Website: www.dougbopst.com/gift More on Earth Echo Foods/Cacao Bliss: www.earthechofoods.com/dougbopst Use Promo code "Doug" at checkout to receive 15% off your order Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 71Michael Bosstick - The Most Surprising Advice on How to Be Successful

We can’t deny the fact that there are a lot of people who are so afraid to be judged by others because of their failures. Many are also afraid to open up and share their own stories and take a chance on themselves because of their lack of credentials or because they are fearful of looking like a fool. But, what if I told you the very thing you MUST do to be successful is to put yourself out there, fail and not be afraid to look like an idiot. There are also a fair amount people that read book after book only to find themselves in the same place in their lives. Or they may keep jumping from podcast to podcast and unable to move the needle either personally or professionally. Many are having such a hard time really applying what they have learned from past personal development material because they don’t take the time to really process it, implement It and stay consistent. If you happen to experience any of those, then this is the right episode for you! Those are some of the many topics that my guest and I are going to talk about. My guest today knows all about being successful, discovering talent, podcasting, being a parent, overcoming adversity and creating a massive a side hustle. A side hustle that is now one of the top podcasts in the world that he co hosts with his wife Lauryn that now has over 80 million downloads just to give you a hint as to who this might be. Another hint is that That podcast is called the Skinny Confidential Him and Her Podcast. The story doesn’t stop there after boot strapping, self producing and monetizing their own podcast, it inspired him to co-found Dear Media Podcast network where he is the CEO. Dear Media is the first and leading podcast network focused on female voices, audiences, and narratives. With close to 40 shows under management and growing Dear Media is changing the podcast/audio landscape and amplifying female voices. Dear Media is also changing the way talent interacts in this medium. Dear Media's business model brings opportunity not only to podcast channels but any channel that touches a talent's brand. My guest today is Michael Bosstick and will share his tips for people to become confident and be unbothered about other people’s judgements so that they can continue to move forward and achieve their goals. He will also provide some of the most surprising advice on what it takes to be successful and so much more! Get ready to listen and take note of his advice and also make sure to implement what he has to say into your life. It will all be worth it! The Skinny Confidential Podcast: The podcast started as a side hustle. Michael was earning other businesses and Lauryn was running her brand. The podcast was a side thing they did as a hobby. And since then, it's obviously become a decently successful show. In addition to that, it was the catalyst to kick off the Dear Media Podcast Network, and the entire network -- the team, the 50+ shows represent would not be possible and not be represented, if Michael didn't take a chance and jump into the show with Lauryn and have that sh*tty thing that ultimately looked really foolish doing in the beginning, but now has kind of proven itself out. Michael’s Advice: For the people who are afraid of judgments: No matter what you do, you're going to look a little stupid, a little foolish, a little bit silly in the beginning, but ultimately on the other side of that is where you'll find happiness and success. For anyone who is afraid to open up and share their stories: People can’t find success long term if they're not authentic. If you don't bear it all and you don't put it out there in an authentic way, there's no longevity, which it really like reinforces and enables you to go out there and just be yourself. For people who are struggling to implement what they’ve learned from podcasts and books: Everything starts with actually taking a step of action -- step one. The mistake people make is that they tend to start thinking from A to Z instead of A to B. If you actually go and do the first thing you could potentially do, and you take step one and do the main thing that you can do right now, it will absolutely lead to the rest. You will figure it out along the way you need to build momentum. People that actually have success in life are the people that take massive amounts of action. Current Struggles: Michael will be sharing about some of the struggles and discomfort he dealt and the importance of just staying in your lane, accepting the things that work for you and not worrying about what other people think. He will also talk about the biggest challenges they are facing right now and will be sharing his tips on how to get through it every single day. This is really interesting. Tune in to this episode and your perspective will surely be influenced in a better way! Words of motivation from Michael: People that have those judgments and actually care about what you're doing and judge you for failing are the real losers. The moment yo

Ep 70Brian Koppelman - Feeling Stuck? Do This One Thing

If you are feeling stuck or uncertain right now, then you need to listen to this episode! The television and film industry has definitely changed during this pandemic and my guest today is the co-creator, show runner and executive producer of one of the most popular shows there is right now, that like many had to pause production during COVID. The show I am referencing, Billions is also one of my personal favorites and a favorite to so many. My guest today is Brian Koppelman. He is the co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner of Showtime's hit drama series, BILLIONS. Over the past two decades, Koppelman and his writing/producing/directing partner, David Levien, have created an influential and diverse body of work in both film and television. Some of their most noteworthy credits include Rounders, Ocean's Thirteen, Solitary Man, The Illusionist, Runaway Jury, Tilt, ESPN's 30 for 30 (This Is What They Want), and I Smile Back. Koppelman is the host and creator of the hit podcast, The Moment with Brian Koppelman. If you are currently struggling and uncertain about your future, this is the perfect episode for you! He will give lots of advice about how to deal with the feeling of being stuck, and tips on how to be able to follow your heart’s desire and do what you really love. Everything he is about to say in this episode is all based on his life experiences, and I’m sure that a lot of people, especially in these hard times can truly relate. Brian’s Backstory: Brian loved the arts, and he was in every play, and assistant directed all the plays at school, but he didn't think that he was a particularly gifted artist. The hardest part of school for him was school itself because he had pretty severe ADHD. Brian was always singled out as being smart, but being lazy or not willing to do what was necessary. He was drawn to books and movies, and music and comedy. He loves listening to people talk and then being able to repeat it and incorporate it in his own language. And he always could remember the dialogue and memorize movies. He just didn't know that those are necessarily useful skills for his life as a writer, it just didn't connect for him for a very, very long time. Since the show industry paused, how does Brian manage to go through that? According to Brian, whatever the challenges are, with regard to dealing with the pandemic, and whatever uncertainty he is grappling with, he doesn't dwell on it. That’s his secret. Brain’s life in the music industry: Brain had a very successful career in the music industry. He was 30 years of age and his first child was born when he realized he’s not doing the real thing that he loves. Listen to this episode to hear Brian’s story about his moment of clarity when he was listening to Counting Crows, and he was like “This isn't for me.” Brian’s advice for somebody who's feeling stuck during these times: Trying to find the reason you need to make the shift is very important. Once you know the reason, you will be able to do anything because the reason is strong — the reasons to make the change. Brian’s health secret: Brian will be talking about his transformation in his health and will share some of his tips based on his own experience that a lot of people could adapt into their day-to-day life. Billions: Get to know the backstory of the show “Billions”. You will learn the deeper reason behind everything, and why did they come up with the idea of creating this show. Brian’s advice to the anyone who is currently struggling in different aspects of their life: Remember that you have so much more power and personal agency than you think in your low moments. You can take some steps today — make a plan today. To move forward, it starts with figuring out what you want. Take out a piece of paper and tell yourself, you're not going to censor, and just write for a half hour. Even if you're not a writer, grab a pen, and just write down everything that's going through your mind, and find the thread of where you want to go. Let that be your North Star and just take a small step in that direction. If you're really struggling, find somebody to call today and talk through it with them. Don't suffer and struggle alone. Ep 69Rachel Cruze - How to Better Your Financial Situation Right Now

Let’s face it, today there are many people struggling with their finances. People have lost their jobs, some have been furloughed, some have had their income drop and this pandemic has impacted so many in such a way that has left them feeling fearful, uncertain, anxious and stressed on what’s to come. So today, I wanted to bring on the show an expert that will help you better your financial situation right now. My guest today is Rachel Cruze — an American author who specializes on the subject of personal finance. Her book Smart Money Smart Kids, co-authored with her father, Dave Ramsey, reached number one on The New York Times Best Seller list in 2014. She’s also the host of the Rachel Cruze show. We are going to talk about budgeting, family and of course finances. And with the difficult situation happening around us, Rachel will share some of her tips and strategies on how people can effectively manage their money and be financially secure until they live a life that is debt-free! So if you are one of the many who got affected financially during these difficult times, and you are having a hard time with planning and handling the budget for yourself and your family, this is the perfect episode for you! What's it like growing up with Dave Ramsey as a Dad? Rachel’s Mom and Dad, obviously, were really intentional with teaching them how money works, but it was not something that they obsessed over. They were never given an allowance. They were always on commission. “You work, you get paid. You don't work, you don't get paid.” What can Rachel say about people falling into this comparison trap with impulsive spending, and how to prevent it? Social media has become so normalized, like it's a part of our everyday life. People are on it constantly and the hard thing is mostly what people see are the best parts of everyone's life -- great vacations, great meals that are being cooked. And that's how we've been for almost a decade of seeing these things over and over. And assuming that's how life should be. And if people are not meeting that, then the avenue of debt is right there for us to walk right down and get it because we think it's normal. We have to shake out what is normal, because what's normal is “broke”, we're finding that 78% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. The Four Walls Rachel points out that during these tough times, it's most important to take care of the four walls that surround you which includes: Food Shelter Utilities Transportation Tune in to this episode and digest what Rachel said about these 4 walls. You will surely gain something that is really helpful and might change your perspective when it comes to handling money! Rachel will also talk about how she manages to protect her energy and make sure that she’s taking care of herself to be a beacon of light to everybody. And just like everyone else, Rachel also faced some adversity in her life! You better listen to this as she tells her story and what she learned from it. Words of wisdom from Rachel: “Money is just a tool to create a life that we love. But it is not life. We're not working just to make money.” “Control what you can control and don't make decisions based out of fear.” Connect with Rachel: Website: https://www.rachelcruze.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rachelramseycruze Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rachelcruze Twitter: https://twitter.com/rachelcruze YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/rachelcruze Connect with Doug Website: www.dougbopst.com/ Instagram: @dougbopst Facebook: Doug Bopst Private Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/690686891674188 Website: www.dougbopst.com/ More on Earth Echo Foods/Cacao Bliss: www.earthechofoods.com/dougbopst Use Promo code "Doug" at checkout to receive 15% off your order Learn more about your ad choices. It's not going to happen overnight. "If you are in pain, congratulations, that's the best place to start. Use that pain as a motivator, as a lever to actually get you up off the couch. Whether that's literal or figurative and start to manifest in very small nuggets, the life that you would like to lead." -Rich Roll He talks about beginning with very basic actions. It could just start with simple steps such as writing down the things you are struggling with in your life and jotting down the things you want to give more attention to. Another "first step" example can be putting your shoes on to go for a walk because you have aspirations to run a marathon. "It's not about quitting your job overnight and making some broad dramatic statement. It really is about these tiny things that you commit yourself to." -Rich Roll Rich shares that If you are having trouble staying committed or on track, find an accountability partner that you can trust. "Ask yourself, how committed are you to change and are you willing to take some uncomfortable actions in order to shift your reality?" -Rich Roll Rich’s Latest Book: Voicing Change It's an aesthetic compilation of wisdom that showcases many of the life changing conversations between Rich and many of his guests. The inspiration for this book is really a desire to canonize some of the wisdom and inspiration that Rich received as a result of hosting his podcast. Ep 67Whitney Miller - How to Face Your Deepest Insecurities to Improve Your Self Esteem

My guest today is the former Miss United States and sports anchor, Whitney Miller. She has found her true calling helping individuals and couples as a love, sex and relationship coach. Her experiential journey to self-mastery started 5 years ago with her well publicized open relationship with an ex fiance. Whitney has since joined forces with some of the leading scientists and researchers in the field, and now hosts talks and workshops around the world. She believes that regardless of your relationship construct, monogamous or open, there are always ways to create more love, better sex, and healthier, happier relationships. If you are someone who struggles dealing with your personal insecurities, and you’re tired of hearing people tell you what to do with your life, then you should listen to this episode. Whitney and I will be talking about her incredible backstory, having a strong mindset and how to overcome you deepest insecurities to improve your self confidence and become your best self. Whitney’s Backstory: Whitney was naturally gifted. She started doing gymnastics and soccer by the time she was four. That's the only thing that she knew and she loved competing. She loves trying new things and doing pretty well at it. Pageantry was a complete out of the box for Whitney because growing up, she used to be a tomboy playing sports with the boys in the neighborhood and keeping up with her brothers. She was at the age of 15 when she started competing in a pageant. On that same day, she also had a surfing contest. She showed up to rehearsals, all sunburned, clearly not taking the pageant seriously at all. But she went into it and was just trying to see what it was like. And that’s what her mindset was. Her parents always told her, “Whitney always does what she wants to do, like we can tell her to do one thing, but she's going to try to figure it out on her own.” Whitney’s strong mindset She ended up winning the pageant and that's when she started to understand the pageant industry. When I'm 15 years old, she had a very naturally athletic body, which is great for sports, but not great for pageants, particularly back then. According to Whitney, 15 or 16 years ago, having abs and arms wasn't really considered sexy or feminine on a woman. And so I was constantly told, “You need to be softer. You need to get rid of some of your muscle. You need to not work out so much.” Her main secret is that she wouldn't let anyone say what she should do, or how she should be. She’s going t o just be authentically herself. Again, she ended up winning Miss Texas, and winning the swimsuit, which is really interesting, because she still had my very athletic body. So she won swimsuit, went to Miss Texas. And when she went to Miss United States, she kept the same mindset. How Whitney handles her insecurities: For Whitney, people just need to understand that insecurities are just part of our lives. And insecurities exist to teach us. Ep 66David Nurse - The Secrets to Cultivating True Confidence

If you are self-conscious and struggling on how to be more confident with yourself, this is a MUST LISTEN! My guest today is none other than David Nurse — an NBA life and optimization coach, future bestselling author, and worldwide motivational speaker. As a former professional basketball player (both international and domestic) and a coach for the Brooklyn Nets, David has personally helped over 150 NBA players with their personal and professional development both on and off the court. In this episode, we will be talking about his so-called 7 Steps to Unshakable Confidence. If you are self-conscious and struggling on how to be more confident with yourself, this is a MUST LISTEN! You will learn a lot from David as he gives tips and pieces of advice not only to achieve confidence, but to become optimistic as well! The Pivotal Moment in David's life: David grew up in the middle of cornfields of Iowa. He always wanted to play in the NBA. That was his whole dream. His whole mission, everything he did on a daily basis was poured into how he could play in the NBA. Now, he never dunk a basketball once. He can't even touch the rim of 6'2", because he is not very athletic. College basketball basically grinded David's way to achieve his dream. He played professionally over in Europe. Fast forward, he gets cut from that team. Not only are all his hopes and dreams and everything that he put into his life with no backup plan, everything was taken away from him. He came home and his mom told him something he never heard before that really stuck him. His mom said, "David, when one door closes, four open in an entire beachfront patio overlooking the ocean." That's when it triggered him. He realized that everything he's been doing to play in the NBA has actually been for him to learn how to help others -- how to coach. The pivot that everything David put into it was to actually coach. He made that decision to become a coach in the NBA. Tips from David to become optimistic: - Know that failure is not just a way that we can learn and grow. It is the only way to learn and grow. - Failure is a big time blessing because not only are we learning and growing, but it's also able to teach someone to help somebody else along their journey, who goes through the same exact thing that we are struggling with right now in our life. - Know that God's timing always ends up being so much better than our own timing. - Take 1% steps daily. David's 7 Steps to Unshakable Confidence: - Confidence through Comparison - Confidence through Focusing on Your Strength - Confidence through Redefining Vocabulary - Confidence through Creating Your Own Personal Highlight Reel - Confidence through Pouring Into Others - Confidence through Your Cue Word - Confidence through Preparation — The Relentless Consistency Tune in to this episode to know what those steps mean, so that you will also be able to achieve that unshakable confidence within you! Ep 65Jenn Kennedy - Breaking Unhealthy Generational Patterns and Turning it into Massive Impact

In this episode, my guest and I are going to talk not only about business and entrepreneurship, but also about breaking unhealthy generational patterns and creating massive success. This will make people realize that just because you are born into unhealthy or traumatic family dynamics, it doesn't have to be that moving forward. Once you break the pattern and commit to working on yourself, great things can happen. This includes not only making a lot of money, but changing a lot of lives along the way. My guest today is none other than The Jenn Kennedy — an impact-driven business mentor and a coach. She is the founder of Impact to Income Academy and she helps people absolutely crush and scale their business. Jenn’s Back Story: Jenn was just 5 years old when her parents got divorced. That time, she doesn’t even know what “divorce” means. All she knew was everybody is sad. Her mom was depressed, and her dad wasn’t around. She realized as the oldest daughter of their family that it was going to very quickly be her job to just make sure that everyone's happy. She took on the role of her family to be the light and just make sure that no one is sad. If she was mad or frustrated, it was just buried deeper and deeper because her parents were both very stubborn in their alcoholism tendencies and they told her to never ask for help, because they can do anything by themselves and they just act like everything's okay. That message and mentality really is what caused Jenn’s eating disorder. It's what caused her to try drugs when she was in college. It's what caused her to never think that she was good enough, skinny enough, smart enough, no matter how hard she worked. It was the reason why she was looking for approval, and looking for her self worth in every single human in her life besides herself. After she overcame that eating disorder, she realized how many women were struggling with the same things she was struggling with, because she didn't speak about anything. She realized that women were still struggling and were not living in their power, because they were afraid that their physical bodies weren't good enough for that. That's when Jenn started her first business, which was nutrition coaching. And that's the reason why she found the passion in helping women uncover their power and stand in their confidence as a woman in their body. Jenn’s secret to effectively deal with all the circumstances that the world is going through right now: Jenn always takes care of herself first. As a leader, she knows that she has to take care of herself first. And that means her energy, mind, body, soul, and everything. The first thing that she’s doing is she’s making sure that she is still showing up, most importantly, for herself. She is educating herself, trying to understand, and learning to lead like an imperfect person. She doesn't know what's right. She doesn't know what's wrong, but she is leading anyway. And so she’s just leading, knowing she’s going to make mistakes, knowing that she has flaws, but she’s showing up anyway, because that's what's near and dear to her heart. In this episode, Jenn will be answering these questions: How did Jenn manage to leave her teaching career to become a full-time entrepreneur How well did Jenn handle all the judgements thrown to her by the people around her How Jenn and her husband made their relationship work better despite all the difficulties they faced while they try to grow individually What are Jenn’s main goal in building her own business Words of wisdom from Jenn: “The only person who should be in charge of yourself, is yourself.” “If I can do it, anyone can do it.” “Every single human is born with empathy.” “Comparing yourself to others can be really healthy.” Tune in to this episode to know the reason behind these quotes from Jenn! Ep 64Bedros Keuilian - Why Adversity is Your Biggest Asset

My guest today is Bedros Keuilian - a serial entrepreneur with multi-million dollar generating businesses in franchising, software, digital marketing, and business consulting. Bedros is the founder and CEO of Fit Body Boot Camp three times listed on Entrepreneur Magazine’s 500 fastest growing franchises in the world. He is also known as the hidden genius behind many of the top businesses, entrepreneurs and thought leaders. His list of clients include New York Times best-selling authors, celebrities, NFL athletes, Navy SEALS and massive social influencers who turn to him when they want to create highly profitable brands and businesses In this episode, we will be talking about his life experiences that can absolutely help lots of people, especially those who have gone through tough times and are not certain about what their future holds. Bedros will make us realize that everything happens for a reason, and we can reach our goals and dreams if we just attract positivity, and let it enter our lives. Bedros’ Backstory Bedros is a foreigner and was an immigrant to the United States. He came from a communist country, Armenia, which at the time was under Soviet rule. His dad was a member of the Communist country. But he was a capitalist and he was the most westernized communist on the planet. Bedros and his family escaped the Soviet Union into Italy. When they got to Italy, they went to the American console and it took about 10 days for them to get all of their paperwork right, and legally enter the United States. The reason was his dad had to literally say, “Look, I'm a member of the Communist Party. I didn't want to be a member, but I had no choice. whatever information you want about communism, I'll gladly share it with you guys.” And so they entered as political refugees. Bedros was 6 years old that time. When his family was still living in Armenia, they had a very good and comfortable life. But when they went to the United State, they were living in section eight housing, he’s getting picked on and bullied by the neighborhood kids, and his family was eating out of dumpsters that they find in the back of grocery stores where people throw away food. His dad worked at a gas station pumping gas at a pizzeria wiping tables down and delivering newspapers to in the morning. Now, Bedros is a 46-year-old man and CEO Fit Body Boot Camp, an international franchise and software company supplement company and coaching programs and he has coached Navy Seals and Super Bowl winning NFL athletes and some of the top thought leaders that everyone's probably following have been his clients. Like that adversity that he dealt with as a kid was literally the foundation of which how he built myself and how he coaches his coaching clients. According to Bedros, most things can be solved if you have enough adversity tolerance in your life, and that's literally the foundation of his coaching program. The Start of the Fit Body Boot Camp Bedros became a personal trainer because he was a fat kid. Going through elementary, junior and senior year of high school, he decided to work out and get in shape because he wanted to go to prom. He lost 30 pounds senior year of high school I've got more confidence. The way his body changed, he knew that this is what he wants to do for a living. He wants to be a personal trainer. And so he worked in a big box gym as a personal trainer, but didn't know how to sell himself. He also worked as a fry cook at Disneyland and as a bouncer at a bar. But one day one of his personal training clients was like, “Dude, you can do this on your own. Like you can have your own gym.” That guy, Jim, started to mentor Bedros, and that was his first exposure to mentors. Jim saw something in Bedros, and that’s how he ended up starting Fit Body Boot Camp after a series of owning his own gyms, selling them coaching and consulting the personal training industry. Bedros’ life experiences: When Bedros was 37 years old, he felt like he was having a heart attack. In that moment, all he could think about was who's going to walk Chloe down the aisle, his daughter when she's older, and gets married, who's going to teach his son Andrew to be a modern-day knight, and he made a promise to his wife that he would protect her, and so who's going to be there to protect her when he’s gone? Listen to this episode to know what really happened to Bedros and how he survived this trying times of his life! Lessons and words of wisdom from Bedros: Positive mental attitude is mandatory. Before we physically die, we tend to mentally die first. Let's always focus on what we can focus on, and only go down that path. “We have one of two shirts we can put on… But one shirt says, ‘What can you do for me today?’ and the other shirt says, ‘How can I serve you today?’ You put on the shirt that says, ‘How can I serve you today?’ You're going to have more things work out in your favor, because there's this universal law that seems to reward people who show up by

Ep 63Larry Indiviglia - The Shocking Insights From Experiencing Massive Trauma

Losing a loved one due to suicide is really tough. You will always ask yourself why you let that happen, and you will always tell yourself that you should have done something to prevent that from happening. If you have been following me for sometime, you know that mentors have been so meaningful in my own transformation and that has trickled down into being able to help others. Some of them have made big names for themselves and then there are a few “unsung heroes” that aren’t as reputable. One that many of you know have come to know is my cellmate, another is today’s guest Larry Indiviglia. Larry has been a mentor and coach of mine for nearly a decade and been instrumental in my success and transformation and frankly this podcast wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for him. He and I met through our mutual friend Todd Durkin at his mentorship and have developed a transformative professional and personal relationship since. Larry is also a retired Naval Officer, he served 26 years in the Navy and has been a fitness professional for 32 years. You are really going to appreciate hearing about his life experience and how he used negative situations and turned them into something positive and meaningful. His “Yoda like” wisdom coupled with his grit is remarkable and has been able touch the lives of so many. His unmatched ability to empathize and inspire others comes from his own personal journey of overcoming massive adversity. He lost his sister to a car accident that he was the one driving the car and lost his brother to suicide. He broke his neck, survived colon cancer, and lost the love of his life dying on a deathbed next to him... But he is still able to give back, write an amazing book, and help people change the world. He will make everyone realize that it’s okay for someone to not think about others and focus on themselves first. Not only will it save you from all the burden that was thrown at you, but can also be the reason for you to do great things! Larry’s backstory:Back in 1973, Larry went to Naval Academy at the age of 17. It was great for him because he made lots of friends in different unions. He spent his four years there and worked real hard. It was his graduation week -- a very special time for all the families. He was driving his sister and aunt to the airport, but unfortunately, they didn’t make it. They had a really bad car accident where his sister died. That was his first day as an ensign in the Navy, and there he was lying in Walter Reed Hospital. Fortunately, he only got some bruises and a little concussion but he survived. Four days later, Larry was at a funeral and that was a really tough time for him. But he knew that he just needed to sit down there and move forward. His sister’s loss and aunt's loss gave him the inspiration to then get back on track and do something special with his life. Larry’s Unshaken Faith: Larry is a Christian and he believes that God has a plan — that Christ has a plan for all of us. After they buried his sister, his dad said, “Larry, go and live your life. God has saved you for a reason. You don't have to prove anything. Just go out there and be you, and live your life. You don't have to do anything especially for Barbara, and Teresa. You don't have to do anything special.” The best thing for him was to get out of that environment. If he had to stay home and wallow around if he got seriously injured, that would have been a lot tougher for him. He didn't have time to process it super intently. He was able to put it behind him and then move forward because he had a job to do. In four years on that ship, Larry won two medals. He didn't necessarily do it for anybody. He just did what he felt he had to do. Larry didn't have time to wallow in it. It might sound selfish, but that really helped him and his faith. From being in the Navy to being into fitness: Larry always wanted to get into the fitness word. He used to follow bodybuilding when he was in high school. You have got to listen to this episode to know more about Larry’s interesting journey and how he ended up having his own fitness center in Coronado! Larry Indiviglia and Todd Durkin Larry truly believes that it's one of the plans sometimes God has for our lives. He brings people into our life for a reason. And he met Todd for a reason. Their bond is really interesting yet inspiring because through the last 20+ years, Larry and Todd made a massive impact in the world together. If you are curious about how and when they met, you will know the history in this episode, so tune in! Larry’s pieces of advice for anyone who lost a loved one and going through tough times: Accept a realization that you can't save someone You will get clarity when adversity strikes. If you have faith, go back to your faith and thank God for the lesson he has given you in that process, and that you're still here and able to continue your journey. Ep 62Chris Gronkowski - Rediscovering Your Identity After Shattered Dreams

A lot of people think that their current situation will be a lifelong one -- may it be about their struggles, financial status, and even in their career. Sometimes people think that they are imprisoned by what/where they are right now. They tend to think that there is no possible way to shift from doing what they used to do for a living, to doing what they really are passionate about. Today’s guest will make us realize that change is okay, and how doing what we really love can change our lives for the better. We just have to embrace changes. My guest is Chris Gronkowski -- the owner and inventor of the Ice Shaker. He first made a career for himself as a professional football player and joined the NFL in 2010 after being signed by the Dallas Cowboys as a fullback. During his years in the NFL, Gronkowski also played for the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. In 2016, he decided to put his entrepreneurial skills to the test when he set out to create a protein shaker bottle that would alleviate many of the issues he and other avid athletes experience with standard protein shakers. Chris Gronkowski Backstory Chris has 4 brothers and they all play pro-sports. His eldest brother plays baseball. They did not come from a football family. They were just athletes because their parents can’t handle them being inside the house all day, because it will be like they will take five boys, they leave them inside a house, and all they will do is fight. It will be just all brawls non-stop. So Chris and his brothers put all their energy into sports. And that's how that all came about. His goal really wasn't to make it to the NFL, and he actually thought he had zero chance. All he gets told every single year by his teachers and by everyone is, “Hey, this is a dream. Very few people make it. It's one in a million. Get your grades because it's probably not happening for you.” Being told that everyday, Chris’ goal was just to get to college, and get the best education possible. But he was lucky enough to get a last minute scholarship offer to the University of Maryland and he got to college for free at division one. Then along the way, he obviously put his all into athletics. And since he has his brother on his team, it became a competition between brothers. And that just led them to pushing each other harder and harder. It led to an opportunity where scouts might have been coming in to see his brother, Rob, but they were also seeing him at the same time. What is it like to play in the NFL? According to Chris, playing in the NFL is not just a game. It's a job. A hard and super stressful job. In college, you could pretty much hold up a sign. If you see the signs on the sideline like, “What the hell does that mean?” And it actually tells you exactly what you’re doing. In the NFL, it's definitely not like college. You walk up to the line, you have a quarterback, like a Brady - Peyton Manning, he's calling out one word on the line, and in a split second, you have to know exactly what you're doing. So you have to be a pretty smart and intelligent person. And then also with that, you'll play changes as “defend changes.” Chris’ transition from being in the NFL to becoming an entrepreneur It was almost a blessing in disguise when Chris got hurt in his fourth year. He took an injury settlement, because once you get hurt in a camp, and you're not a superstar player, you're pretty much “damaged goods” at that time. They'll release you and they'll pay you out as long as they think you're going to be hurt. And so they paid Chris for three games. So it was an easy, easy transition for Chris because his wife also started a business in his third year. She started hand painting wine glasses, and he saw it as if this little hobby that's going nowhere. But pretty soon they started to sell. They started selling. She had to find a way to scale up and she started scaling up and at that time, while Chris ended his first contract with the Broncos. Chris had this little break and he started looking into the business and realized that it was a huge opportunity. It was personalized gifts and it was super expensive. It was a long turnaround time. And they had a way to do it fast most of the time, same day and do it for a lot cheaper just through our mind and through the etsy platform and their own website. So he started pouring money into it, putting the NFL money into commercial grade laser engravers and, and other machines to personalize gifts and soon enough you know it took off. He was there for a couple months, he got hurt and he had this to fall back on so it wasn't too hard and he just poured everything into it. So Chris went from everything in football, to the blog days just right over to business and putting the long hours in which was his wife's business and did that for about five years until he thought of the idea for ice shaker which he eventually got on to to shark tank and going into four years. What are some things that Chris did to develo

Ep 61Gabby Reece - Overcoming Life's Setbacks and Embracing the Journey

Gabby Reece: Being of service is the ultimate sign of strength. My guest today is none other than Gabby Reece -- not only a volleyball legend, but an inspirational leader, host of the Gabby Reece show, author and entrepreneur. But, most importantly she’s a mom, a wife and an incredible human. In this episode, she will be sharing lots of inspiring experience-based stories about her life as an athlete, wife, mother, and entrepreneur. Tune in to this episode and take notes of all the words of wisdom that Gabby will be sharing with us! Gabby Reece’s Backstory: Gabby’s father passed when she was very young. And when she was a junior in high school at the age of 15, she was living in the Virgin Islands. She thinks she was going nowhere, because it didn't occur to her. She didn't have people around her who were like, “Go to college.” and all those things. It was like people were having a good time. Her mother pulled her out of that situation and put her into St. Petersburg, Florida, because she was six foot three. And she walked into a very small school, and people automatically were like, “Oh, you're gonna play sports.” Because if you were worth your weight at all in sports, in that community, you would have gone to a bigger school to try to get attention. And so she got involved. She had messed around a little bit with volleyball but really got involved with volleyball and basketball. Her basketball coach was a great mentor. There were a few families in that environment who saw that Gabby was navigating a couple things as far as like her home situation, and people sort of said, “We'll help this kid a little bit.” Even in her senior year, weirdly, she lived with the principal and his wife and their two small children because her mom was not going back to that school. And that was her senior year and she sort of built some stability and he was like, “No send, Gabby.” And when she got put into the school which was funny for her, because it's a Christian school, and she feels like she was the only “unsaved person.” Gabby thinks she’s by nature and totally, she’s probably inside pretty defiant in a different kind of way. So then she got offers to play basketball and volleyball in college, and she has chosen Florida State. And then her coach, Dr. Cecile Ron ended up having a huge impact on her life. How did sports save Gabby’s life? Gabby went from the pros back into work life. Her strategic self looked at continuing in volleyball, and it was tough. It was such a small sport, but it’s a community on purpose, contribution to the tribe, and level of self discipline -- these things are very grounding. As for Gabby, when someone put in an honest day's work, whatever that work is, she thinks it empowers a person in a way, even though it's challenging and hard, and sometimes they really don't want to do it reinforces their mettle, as a person, their armor, their ability to also believe in themselves that, “I may not know a lot, and I might be uncomfortable, and I'm unsure. But at least I have the ability to work to learn something new.” Gabby’s successful married life with her husband, Laird: When Gabby was working, she was always doing other things. And one of those was doing TV. She had a show on MTV sports. But that brought her to another show that she hosted, The Extremists. And then she met Laird, her husband on that show. And now, they’re married for 23 years. Gabby and her husband are not easy people. They’re both pretty intense. For Gabby, a person can't dictate to their partner on how to do something. Both her and Laird are highly self governed. They’re interested in trying to really show up as flawed as it is. And if they have a real issue, the good thing is that Laird certainly is a clear deck guy. Every day, he's the one who taught Gabby about helpful conflict, because before, Gabby thought that when you love someone, you just kind of don't say anything. Gabby is not looking for Laird to make her fulfilled or happy. And what she says to him is like, “I can't make you happy, but I could make your life better.” Gabby thinks that we live in a time where people are really afraid to be of service to one another. And what she knows to be true, is that being of service is the ultimate sign of strength. It is not, in fact, a weakness. Gabby and Laird’s parenting styles: She started as a step parent, her oldest daughter was very young, four or five months old, when she met Laird, they've co-parented the whole time with her than eight years into their relationship. They had their second daughter, who's now almost 17, and then her youngest daughter is now 12. She was like, “Okay, if I'm, if I create a really safe and clean and healthy, peaceful home, I'm gonna, it's going to take care of everything.” And then what she realized is that every kid is different. And they will have to go through things that their parents didn't want them to have to go through. And then they become teenagers, and they start to talk to their pare

Ep 60Lauren Salaun - Confessions of a Recovering Workaholic (And How to Heal from it)

Have you been overworking without getting what you think you deserve? Or are you not sure if you’re worthy of being known in the industry that you’re in? Then this episode is a must-listen! You will surely get you more inspired and motivated as my guest shares her experience from working 60-80 hours a week to having her own marketing agency where she helps other entrepreneurs get their message out there and show off what they’ve got! My guest today is Lauren Salaun — a PR and marketing consultant, media personality, speaker, and entrepreneur. She is a former health coach, personal trainer, fitness model and competitor. A lifelong athlete, Lauren spent the bulk of her career in public relations, crisis communications, and marketing before launching a health and fitness coaching business in 2015. While helping people live their healthiest lives and dipping her toes into the world of fitness competitions, Lauren continued her PR and social media consulting and coaching, supporting entrepreneurs in the health, wellness, lifestyle, and personal development industries in building their influence online and monetizing their social media. Lauren has extensive experience in public relations, marketing, and media, from crisis communications to running her own social media management company, being an on-air podcast personality, red-carpet host, and influencer, and of course today, running her own PR agency and being a sought-after speaker on public relations, influencer marketing, and visibility. In 2019, Lauren launched influence+IMPACT ["Influence And Impact"], a PR and influencer marketing agency, where she helps entrepreneurs elevate their visibility, strengthen their authority in their industry, and share their message on a global level so they can increase their income and make even more of an impact. A bit of Lauren Salaun’s story: Growing up, Lauren has always been very active. She has wonderful parents who raised her and her siblings so well. She also grew up with very high expectations from her parents and in her family, and they expect her to get straight A's, do all the sports, do music, do everything. Her parents argued a lot when she was growing up, and that’s one of the reasons why she wanted to give her best at everything -- to not add stress to the situation in their home. She double-majored in college, did a ton of singing in school after deciding not to play soccer. In her entire life, she was like, “You're gonna do all the things, and the goal is to be the best at all the things.” And that creates a recipe for burnout going nonstop. Her last job that she was at before becoming an entrepreneur and working for myself, was at a PR agency -- working like 60 to 80 hours a week, which gave her exhausting tons of burnouts. Why did Lauren leave her last job? She left simply because that wasn’t her passion, although she knows that she’s doing an important job because she works at a hospital industry, it’s just not really where her interests are. Also, Lauren wanted to have more freedom and flexibility over her schedule and how she works when she works. She wants to fit her work around her life rather than life around her work. What are some steps Lauren took to get herself to where she is today? Lauren is starting to have a morning routine -- a morning ritual that includes meditation, gratitudes, visualization, and all that “woo woo” stuff, that she never thought she would actually need. She knew that it was so important to start her day grounded, and not to start her day opening up emails, opening up social media, and getting right into work mode. She is carving out 5 to 10 minutes to say, “No, learn your boundaries. Your mental health should come first.” And that was a really powerful step for her. And three years ago, she did a really intensive leadership development and emotional intelligence program in a mastermind where they did some professional development stuff, which she always loved. But since she is going out on her own and becoming an entrepreneur, she has always found so much value in masterminds, or coaches, or just that collaborative community support type of structure and ongoing personal and professional development. The PR Accelerator Lauren and her team work with a number of entrepreneurs to get their message out there, book media, and all that kind of stuff. They can scale their business, bring in more money, and the biggest thing that they often work with everyone in that group is the mindset stuff. The Impostor Syndrome Impostor syndrome is when someone highly doubts their very own skills. An example of this given by Lauren is when somebody’s been like, “Oh my gosh, so and so got back to me about being on their podcast, which is crazy, I would have never thought…” And so, Lauren and her team are always reminding their clients to push the impostor syndrome out of the way, and stop comparing themselves because they have a massive value to add to their lane. Some words of wisdom from La

Ep 59Mark Divine - The Blueprint to Developing an Unbeatable Mindset

Are you looking for a BLUEPRINT on how to develop an UNBEATABLE MINDSET? Then this episode is a MUST LISTEN! My guest today is none other than Mark Divine — a New York Times best-selling author, leadership expert, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, and retired U.S. Navy SEAL Commander. He is also the founder and CEO of SEALFIT and Unbeatable Mind and hosts the highly-rated weekly podcast, The Unbeatable Mind with Mark Divine. Mark's story is incredibly inspiring because he not only made it through BUD/S, at 26 he graduated as the Honor Man (#1-ranked) of class 170. Perhaps even more striking was that his entire original boat crew graduated with him that day. The odds of that happening by chance are literally one in a million. Mark then served for twenty years (9 active duty and 11 reserves) leading his team on reconnaissance, training and classified missions in 45 different countries throughout Asia and the Middle East. He now shares the same secrets to entrepreneurs, executives and teams through his books, speaking, award winning podcast, and world-renowned leadership and team events. Get ready to have your mind blown with the facts that Mark and I will be discussing about his story, meditation, human experiences, mindfulness, discipline and how to develop an unshakeable mindset. Quick overview on Mark Divine’s story: After college, Mark was a typical guy trying to make a lot of money and make a mark in the world. He got his MBA at Stern School of Business, he was a Certified Public Accountant working toward shifting over to becoming an investment bank or trader or hedge fund guy. Just like others, Mark had an early life crisis. He had that kind of existential experience of “What the eff am I doing in this corporate world in the suit and tie, chasing money when none of that really means anything to me?” And his paradigm was meditation. He was very fortunate. It's incredible for him. When he looks back, he was introduced to Zen meditation at 20 years old, through his martial arts teacher, which was literally the month or two after he went to New York City from Colgate to start his professional career. Because his teacher was so serious about the value of Zen training, to complement the martial arts training and Yin and Yang, his teacher had them meditate for five minutes before and five minutes after every class. And they had a Zen class for 45 minutes on Thursday nights. A small group of them were really dedicated to that. And then they used to go to the Zen Mountain Monastery in Woodstock, New York for long weekends to sit with Zen monks. And Mark felt so good after a few months of wrestling. It just calmed his mind, and he started to feel really good. And so he decided to commit to a daily practice every morning. And it's never wavered since then even while he was in the SEALs. So every morning I would sit, meditate for 20 minutes, I had these profound shifts. Then, as a 20 to 23 year old kid, his brain was still really developing fast. So the fact that he was meditating meant that he was affecting how his brain was developing. The outcome of that was for him to have those really, really cool moments of just great clarity and insight at a young age where he could see that he was on the wrong path. He sees that the stories that he had been kind of fed through my family, the way they dialogue through the culture, through everything were leading him down a common path, but it just wasn't his path. It wasn't who marked what’s meant to be for him. So when he started asking questions to his higher self or spirit, he started to get answers about what he’s supposed to be doing or who he is. And it was leading him in the message that he was a warrior, he was meant to be a warrior, he was meant to serve and lead others, and do some grizzly warrior things. He hadn't even heard of the SEALs at that time. But that insight that he was meant to be a warrior is what led him to stumble across the Navy recruiting office. That's where Mark learned about the SEALs because he saw a poster there with guys doing cool SEAL things on it. And that just cracked right open. He was like, “That's it right there!” That was a synchronicity moment. Mark knew that was it. So in November of 1989. He got his MBA in the mail. Because he had to go extra, he went an extra year to finish it because he was doing night school. He got an MBA certificate, and got his Certified Public Accountant certificate. He earned my first degree black belt. And then he was on a bus to Officer Candidate School in the Navy. And the lesson that he learned was: “Follow your passion and purpose, or else you're gonna be miserable.” What does Mark love most about living on the beach? One of the main practices of being in nature itself is a spiritual practice, because we really just start to resonate and vibrate at the level of the earth, which is the alpha state. Mark gets that experience -- being in the water and having ionization on the water and the grounding eff

Ep 58Lori Gottlieb - How to Improve your Mental Health Right Now

COVID-19 challenged not only the physical strength of those who suffered from it, but also the mental health of many people suffering from depression due to lack of social connections and interactions. It might be about that thing that your partner said to you that you can't get over with. You're like, “I can't believe they said that” and you won't let it go. Being Envious Envy is sometimes really useful, because it tells you what you want. When you feel envy, it's because somebody else has something that you want in your life, too. Tune into thi

Ep 57Sarah Anne Stewart - How to Love The Person You See in the Mirror

Have you ever been so insecure about your body, that it made you do something that you regret doing? Did you experience body-shaming and struggled with food anxiety? Then this episode is a MUST LISTEN! My guest today is Sarah Anne Stewart. She is a holistic health practitioner who helps women to discover a fun and diet-free way to a body that they love. A quick overview about Sarah’s story, and how she overcame all the pain she went through, and how she turned this into her passion: Sarah grew up in a really holistic environment one, where she was meditating and doing yoga and learning about wheatgrass and going on vegan diets as a kid. Many years later she ended up in a hospital bed. And every time she looks back on her childhood, she feels so much guilt and shame. She was 15 years old, and at the same time, her dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She was in this weird predicament where she was going to castings. And she started to develop a really bizarre relationship with her body so much. Her agents were saying, “Don't eat until next week. You can't play sports anymore. You really need to lose weight, you have this amazing career ahead of you. But it's going to require you to change your relationship with your body, meaning, you really have to think about slandering down and doing commodities and yoga instead of sports.” During that time, her dad was going through this crazy experience of facing the end of his life and telling the doctors that he was not going to go the western route, and he was only going to use food to heal his body. And at that point, she was very angry with her dad. And he said, “Sarah, you have to trust me.” and he would meditate every day. He was doing yoga, and he was like visualizing, and basically putting affirmations all over our home. And then he went completely vegan. And within seven months, the cancer was completely gone. Once, she ended up in a hospital bed, and that wasn't the first time she was in there. She was in hospital for multiple eating disorders, laxative abuse. And then on top of that, she ended up getting breast implant illness or breast implants because she wanted to extend her career. She thought she would absolutely lose her life and she had to create a career change. And so all she knew was nutrition. At that point, all she knew was that her dad had cancer with food. And so she thought, she can just go and study nutrition, and maybe she can kill herself. The interesting part was when she realized that the more nutrition information she bought, the worse her anxiety and depression got, because she was trusting everyone outside herself. She was looking at all the experts and the different coaches and the different diets and protocols, without trusting herself. And it wasn't until she came across a meditation teacher whose very first question was, “Are you willing to unlearn the way that you were taught to suffer? Are you ready to hear this truth?” and Sarah said she’s willing to do anything. And he took her on this journey of really peeling back the layers of cultural conditioning, or which she had placed on herself, allowing her to finally witness her truth and begin to heal. A lesson from Sarah that people can use to rediscover themselves internally from the adolescent stage, so they don't have to chase after likes and comments and external validation: Self love, self worth, self esteem are so important. Self love exists within us always, it's not like the stock market where it goes up and down, it is always there. The answer to the solution exists between thought. It exists outside of mind, it exists within our heart, it exists by connecting to higher consciousness, and higher awareness. And that is often where the answer of what we should be doing, how we should be doing it, how we should be taking care of ourselves and our lives, and only through the disconnection from the identity, the memory and the intellect, are we able to truly cultivate our own answers. And that has been Sarah’s greatest lesson. There are three parts of the mind: Identity Memory Intellect Tune into this episode to learn about these three parts and how they impact our lives. Know more about Sarah’s journey in this episode, and I am sure that you will get truly inspired by her as she tells all of the life lessons from her own experiences that a lot of people, especially women can relate with. Ep 56Darin Olien - How to Embrace Your Struggles and Live a Superlife (And Creating Down to Earth)

You have probably heard about the web documentary show, Down To Earth with Zac Efron and Darin Olien on Netflix. In this episode, not only you will learn the backstory of the show, but you will also gain a lot of good knowledge from Darin Olien and how he turned all of the unfortunate events he experienced into something great. He is one of Down To Earth’s executive producers, the original formulator of Shakeology and co-creator of the comprehensive plant-based Ultimate Reset 21-day detoxification program, is often called “the Indiana Jones of superfoods.” Why did Darin choose to dive deep into health? Darin was starting fullback in his sophomore year and he beat out guys 50 pounds heavier than him. In the first first game, he crunched my lower back, you're a bunch of ligaments. That was an abrupt stop to his dream. The physical therapists that I was going to and the x rays and everything that he was jumping through to try to get back on the field wasn't working. There was a lot of complexity, as it turns out he couldn't get back on the field. He then quit that school, and went to the University of St. Thomas and St. Paul, Minnesota. And I started studying physiology, kinesiology, and nutrition, and whatnot. That's when all of these things kind of started making sense for him because number one, he wanted to figure this out for himself, because there's no way that this is going to stop him. So being able to understand a bit of physiology and movement and patterns, started to reverse engineer his injury. What got Darin into the superfood industry? Darin saw flaws. He saw beautiful marketing, and then crappy ingredients. He was like, “Is anyone seeing this?” He was always starting to play with formulation. The full circle kind of moment was when his father passed away, and he received 20 grand which is a lot of money 16 years ago. And for him, that money has something a little different because it came directly from his father -- his legacy. That’s when he started. He set up his LLC, traveled more, created formulas, and started the process of manufacturing his own formulas. He did all of that using the money he got from his father. In the 11th hour of burning through all his cash and realizing how much money it costs them to create a startup, that's when Beachbody approached Darin. Beachbody told Darin to keep doing his thing. So he’s going to formulate which he was doing anyway, and Beachbody will be paying him. What are the five forces in Darin’s best-selling book, SuperLife? These are: Nutrition Hydration Oxygenation Alkalization Detoxification Tune in to this episode so you will learn what those five forces mean and what the importance of each is. What was the inspiration for Down to Earth? As he traveled, he got to see the cultures and the environmental impacts and certain things like water, food, and shelter around the world that many people have never seen and experienced. The environment became a massive pillar in his own life. Water became big for him as he was a big advocate and on the board of rain catcher.org and bringing water to those cultures and showing how to create clean water. He met people along the way that were doing some incredible things from green technologies, to permaculture, and land design that was efficient, but also had yields without striking the ground and the earth and the soil. So as Darin started sketching out an idea for a show. That was Yes, a little bit of superfood hunting, but yes, a little food systems pollution, solution-based diversity of a lot of good people doing a lot of good things around the world. He wanted to show the goodness that people have and also that people can do something about some of those things. For Darin, it was not just doing a TV show, for a TV show sake. He needs to do it to move in a way that conveys a message. His mission is to help people stay healthy and help the planet stay healthy, and just make this place better. According to him, we did a lot of things with great intent. But we got a lot of things wrong as a society. So we need to correct those things. And he really believes that by collaborating with the right people, getting the message out, we can correct those things. And we all can shift from monocropping and stripping our soils to regenerative agriculture that can increase our yields, regenerate our souls, sequester carbon, receive more rainwater, and help their regenerate, reforest, and reinvigorate the ecology. So that we all benefit from it not only our communities, but also as a global society. Know the interesting story about how Zac Efron and Darin met, and how the show started by tuning in to this episode. And get ready to learn so much, absorb a lot of information, and be inspired by how Darin turned the unfortunate things to great ones! Ep 55Trent Shelton - How to Transform Your Pain into Purpose

Your pain can either become your PRISON or your PURPOSE!!! Are you one of those people who believe that all the pain you have experienced and been experiencing are just plain punishments? Then you must tune in to this episode to change that belief into its exact opposite. My guest today is one of the most inspirational and motivational people on the planet. He is a former American football wide receiver, speaker, author and his content reaches more than 60 million people weekly across his social media platforms. I am incredibly honored to have Trent Shelton, founder of RehabTime on the show today. He will make you realize that all the problems and pains were given to us by God for a reason. A bit about Trent’s story: Trent’s everything was sports. Since he was four or five years old, he played baseball, basketball, and football track. And all the way up to high school, he still played basketball, football and baseball. That was his identity. He was blessed to be an outstanding athlete in Texas, went to Baylor University on a full scholarship, and his career at Baylor went great. He had a chance to get drafted, and that was the picture that he’s always painted. Draft day came. He was waiting for his name to be called, but he never heard it. And that's the first moment in his life where he felt like he wasn't in control, and he wasn't enough. That lasted for just a short while because he got a call. It's like a big war how the teams are calling him — the Cowboys, the Colts, and other teams. His uncle advised him and said, “Hey, go with the Colts. Don't go with the team that offers you the most money. Go to a place where they have nothing to give you but a fair shake.” So he signed an undrafted free agent deal, which was a very small signing bonus. Probably a few thousand dollars, and he had to work his way up. But in the same year, Trent ended up having the greatest preseason with the NFL. They brought him in, and they said, “Hey, you know we want to develop you. We have a lot of receivers — Marvin and Reggie. All these guys want to develop you and there's gonna be a good chance in the season. Somebody's gonna get hurt, you're going to be ready.” He went ahead and bought his car, got his apartment, and all those things. But within just three weeks, Trent got a call. It's what they call a “Terrible Tuesday”. They released him. He went back home and tried to suppress everything, and the suppression turned into depression. And two weeks later, Trent got called back. His career was very unstable. 2008 was his breaking point, and he just didn't care anymore. He didn't even want to live anymore. The only thing that kept him going during that time was his three-month-old son, Tristan. He knew that he had to keep living because his son needs his father in his life. Faith, family, and fitness: What do these three words mean to Trent? Faith It is the rock. It is everything, whether it's a spiritual relationship with faith or just the word in general. We are human beings, we operate off of faith. We have to strengthen it to be able to see the unseen, to be able to believe that there's something that’s going to happen for our lives as we like to put it, and believe that there's a door that's going to open from my life that didn't exist yet. Family It is his accountability. It is who he does everything for, especially his immediate family. Fitness It's been a part of his life since he was five years old — obviously with sports. But now, even just moving his body, he would say movement influences mood. It is his release from stress, and it builds on his mental toughness. What is Trent’s biggest joy in life? His biggest joy is being able to coach his son's football team. He would rather do that than go speak on the stage in front of 5000 people. Because he knows that the seeds that he is planting in his family's life will not just affect this generation, but also future generations. “I don't want to be successful to the world and unsuccessful to my family. It doesn't matter if people say, ‘I love Trent Shelton.’ but my kids are like, ‘I don't love my father.’ or ‘My father is not here.’” - Trent Shelton What pieces of advice can Trent give to anybody who’s struggling to decide whether to let someone go or not? Just because they're a good person doesn't mean they're good for you. Always try to ask yourself, “Where is this bridge leading to? Is this bridge leading me to a greater version of myself? Or is it leading you to a lesser version of myself?” And if your answer is a lesser version of yourself, you have to burn that bridge. For Trent, what is the reason why people like to run from their pain and their problems? Trent knows that running away from pain and problems is one of the three parts of the rehab process, which is the reality. Reality is hard to face. People want to stay blind to what they actually see, and they don't want to go through that emotional pain, that emotional journey, so they are going to just sweep i

Ep 54Lindsey Schwartz - Steps on Finding Friends that Align with You

COMMUNITY IS THE GATEWAY TO TRANSFORMATION! Are you afraid to step up and take a leap of faith? Do you feel scared every time you think of all the things you wanted to have and achieve as an entrepreneur? Then this episode is for you! My guest today is Lindsey Schwartz, an Arizona-based, Wisconsin-born entrepreneur and big dreamer. At age 26, Lindsey started her first business part-time and over the next several years became an accomplished fitness athlete, full-time entrepreneur, speaker, and best-selling author of Powerhouse Woman: How to get out of your own way, fulfill your unique purpose, and live a powerful life. Lindsey’s journey and how she became who she is today. Lindsey is a big believer that it's not by accident, and obviously it's taken a lot of hard work. But every time that she thought she was at a stopping point or something that she wanted to happen, and the expectation that she had wasn't turning out the way she wanted, every single time, she just surrendered and trusted that maybe there was a different plan that she just couldn't see. And that led her to what she’s doing now, which she absolutely loves. She grew up in the Midwest, took a job, and she was recruited by a few companies and ended up selling carpet. She literally sold commercial flooring. That's why she moved out to Arizona. She was 23 or 24 when she finished school and all that she heard from that company was, “We will move you somewhere that doesn't snow, and we'll give you a car and a cell phone. And when you're that age, and you grew up in the Midwest with the idea of job security, you get a good job, you work hard, and then you retire. That's the dream life.” Because of that, she was like, “Oh, don't worry about me, Mom, I have made it like, Here I go, I'm gonna start my life in Arizona.” And it just so happens that by the time she got trained and fully into her position, she was in commercial construction. So there she was in an industry that was extremely hard hit and the slowest to recover. And it was the first time in her life where she considered maybe this idea that was true for her parents and grandparents' generation, wasn't really true for her because she didn't feel a whole lot of job security every single day. She watched people her age get laid off. And it was the first time she ever considered that maybe she needed a plan B. And so that was what ultimately brought her to network marketing and found out that she loved helping people be healthy more than she loved selling commercial flooring to a hospital. There was a big difference in both careers she had. There was one time when a customer cussed her because of the flooring order, even if it’s not her fault. And then in her inbox was an email from the woman who had been their wedding photographer, pouring out her gratitude that Lindsey had changed the woman’s life by helping her get her nutrition under control. She then realized that she needs to get out of the job she used to have. She eventually went full time into entrepreneurship. But what happened while she was working in this network marketing career was really what set up what ultimately became “Powerhouse Women.” What does entrepreneurship actually feel like? Everytime Lindsey talks to people, they would always say how Lindsey inspires them. They would end up sharing that they have always thought of starting their own businesses, or maybe even a specific idea that they felt really strongly about, and every time Lindsey would hear it, she would think that those things that people are talking about really need to exist. But in the very next breath, without any like pause in between, they would share why they weren't ready, or they didn't know enough, or they didn't feel like they were good enough. They were afraid — and that is exactly what entrepreneurship feels like. Those feelings that people are using to prove to themselves why they shouldn't go after that, are actually the reasons why they should. It's pointing them in the right direction. What would Lindsey tell somebody who is feeling scared and insecure to be part of a community like the Powerhouse Women? Lindsey can feel that too — she gets intimidated walking into a room of beautiful women, she gets intimidated while walking into a mastermind where everyone's business is twice the revenue of hers, but that's also where she grows. But if someone is going after a big idea, building a business, pursuing a passion project, and they don't feel right now like they have that support, it's up to them to go find it. And the way they find it is by walking into rooms where they feel totally out of their league and a little intimidated until they find the room that yet might still feel a little bit scary, but eventually, they will think that they could fit in there. There's so many options now, both virtually and in person events and networking groups that Lindsey loves to see because there's more than enough to go around for everyone to find a place where

Ep 53Michael Chernow - Fitness is the Key Ingredient to Fight Addiction

FITNESS IS THE KEY INGREDIENT TO FIGHT ADDICTION! Struggling to be happy in recovery? Are you sick of trying everything to escape addiction only to realize it's not sustainable? Then you will need to listen to this episode with Celebrity Chef and Fitness Personality, Michael Chernow! “The business of business is relationships, and the foundation of relationships is trust, because I believe that. I say that in business, but it's also just in general. The business of happiness is relationships and the foundation of relationships is trust.”- Michael Chernow With that quote alone, you can already say that there are lots of things you can learn from my guest today. He is Michael Chernow -- a chef, entrepreneur. He is the founder of Seamore, co-founder of The Meatball Shop, and co-founder of WellWell. He's quite literally the modern-day renaissance man. But what I love most about him is he's really into fitness, and fitness helped to save his life from the depths of addiction, and which we will definitely get into. How is Michael’s life adjusted since this whole COVID thing hit? Instead of upgrading their apartment when they had their second child, they bought a place out of the city which is their best decision because they are staying there for two and a half months now. Their boys are enjoying their life out of the city. Unfortunately, his grandfather, 98, contracted the virus on Friday of last week in his nursing home. He has lived a very fruitful life. It's a shame that this is potentially what could be the end for him, and Michael’s family sort of really bummed out about that. However, Michael is a positive optimist, he always finds the silver lining in everything and he also tries to make lemonade whenever he sees lemons and at this time, he’s actually out there just trying to make some lemonade. Michael is greatly inspired by his grandfather because he absolutely lived a wonderful life -- born in 1919, survived the 20s Great Depression, fought World War 2, created businesses, and failed at some businesses. His grandfather is now 98 years old, and his number one priority was great relationships with people and he had an amazing network of friends. For Michael, we all need to reset and pump the brakes. He has done a lot in the last 10 years and he admits that it hasn’t been the healthiest. He is just extreme in anything he does. He was an “addict.” When it comes to business and work, he’s been into the grindstone non-stop for the last 11 years and this time has forced him to slow down, to not beat himself up, for not producing an enormous amount of shit every day, and to slow down to hold his son for more than two minutes. For Michael, what is life all about? It's ultimately about love. That human beings were put on the planet to love and be loved at the end of the day. In his own experience, he drank and did drugs because he wanted to be loved, and learn how to love himself and, and in his own perspective, everything that we do at the core of motivation or lack of motivation is the desire to love and be loved. How did Michael get out of doing drugs and drinking? He fell in love with escapism. At an early age, he fell in love with it. He started working in restaurants at 13. He worked in the night and he was perfect for it. There were a bunch of years where it was just super fun for him. But suddenly, all of the fun stopped and he started drinking and partying. His dad passed away when he was 20. Michael was not on good terms with his father, and he always used that as a grand excuse to just take it even further. From 20 to 23, he was on a death march, but he still always had a job and always kept his job in a restaurant or nightclub. The last few years were pretty dark for him. He stopped enjoying it, and it became just like part of his routine. There were moments like he just wanted to die. He couldn't believe that he found myself back there again, after promising not to do it again. He clearly remembers catching a glimpse of himself in the mirror saying, “Man, I hate you more than anything on the planet.” He wanted to die, and luckily, he didn't kill himself. He woke up 16 hours later and he had locked himself in his room and people thought he had actually died. His boss, Frank, said, “I love you to death, man. I do. I love you to death but I can’t watch you kill yourself. You’re fired.” Michael really loves his job so he begged for it and his boss said, “I can't give you your job [bar managing] anymore. I just can't put you behind the bar. But if you get sober, if you actually get sober, and you come to work at eight o'clock in the morning, and you clean the restaurant with the porters for 30 days, I'll consider giving you your job back.” So Michael did all of it. He walked into a room of people that took him in like a brother, and they understood each other. Then a couple of guys from that group knew that he had like a little bit of a aggressive sort of anger components, and they dragged him into a Mua

Ep 52Dr. John Delony - The Secret Solution to Managing Anxiety, Fear and Trauma

SO MANY PEOPLE ARE STRUGGLING WITH THEIR MENTAL HEALTH! Do you ever question yourself as to why the things you have experienced in the past happened to you, and what you could've done to prevent them from happening? Have you always wanted to meet someone who can pat you on the back and tell you the exact things you need to do to become a better version of yourself? My guest today is Dr. John Delony. He is a leading voice on relationships and emotional wellness. The newest Ramsey personality. He worked for two decades in crisis response and as a senior leader at multiple universities, and he holds two PhDs -- one in counseling and the other in higher education. Just like normal people, he also has been through the dark days of his life, overcame all of them, and now helping other people to do the same. What's John’s journey behind being the newest Ramsey personality? He lived in Texas every day in his life working at colleges and universities. He was a high school teacher, and then he took a job at a university in Nashville. And Dave has his senior leadership team. John gave a talk to a group of parents and students and Dave’s executive vice president was in the audience dropping their daughter off at the school, and they knew they were looking for additional people. And she just said, “That's the guy.” pointing to John. What does Dr. John think about fear? When it comes to fear, the one thing that served John well is understanding that every brain cell in the body has one job and that's to get to tomorrow. So we need to always be remembering that the fear scans the fear monitor that's going on everywhere. And if we don't actively seek to get other inputs, or put that in its rightful place, then it can take over everything. They won't kill us. It will just lead to chronic stress and isolation, and loneliness. How can loneliness affect a person? It will kill you. Dr. John stated some facts from American Medical Association about how loneliness can kill a person. What does Dr. John say about the kids/teenagers who had trauma when they were young? Five year old kids should do nothing, but be five. Kids have no ability to regulate themselves. They do it against other people. That's when they grew up in stressful chaos. ADHD is not a disease. It's not a brain malfunction. That is your brain doing what it needs to do to protect itself at the moment. And then there goes the anxiety, which is just the alarm system. An example of this is a house that's on fire and we spend so much energy trying to turn the alarm off and not addressing the fact that the house is on fire. What kind of steps should a person take to make sure they're coming out as a better version of themselves? Make a counseling appointment. A statement to yourself in the mirror, “I want to get better and I will get better.” You got to look in the mirror and say, “I'm a person of value, I'm worth getting better.” Connection -- true, vulnerable relationships with God, with your community, with yourself. Tune in to this episode. I am sure you’ll learn a lot from this awesome guy. He will give answers to some of the questions you didn’t know you wanted to know about. Ep 50Jennifer Hurvitz - The Unexpected Pain of Divorce (And How to Avoid it)

BEFORE YOU GET DIVORCED, LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE! Do you feel like your relationship with your partner is falling apart? Or you’re just someone who is afraid of having a failed marriage? My guest today, Jennifer Hurvitz, has a lot to say about that topic. She is the host of the highly acclaimed Doing Divorce Right (or Avoiding It Altogether) Podcast. She's a best selling author of two books: One Happy Divorce: Hold the Bulls#!t, and Woulda. Coulda. Shoulda.: A divorce coach's guide to staying married. She has been featured on Oprah, and Oprah touts her as an expert, recommended her books, and said it's the number five best relation book to read with your partner for a happy marriage. All the things that we will be talking about in this episode are all based on her own experience as a divorced person and as a divorce coach. How did Jennifer handle the divorce when she was going through it? Jennifer wrote her first book called, “One Happy Divorce: Hold the Bulls#!t” quickly after her divorce when she was separated. She wrote it more for herself, just for her readers to tell them, “Look, this is what divorce really, really looks like through the eyes of a divorced person.” For her, the big problem with divorces is that no one really knows what it feels like until someone goes through it. It's a lot like death. It is like a death, only the person is actually alive and you have to see them everyday, and you maybe have to co-parent with them for the rest of your life. You actually go through the stages of death, grieving, anger, and all those things, but you have to be with this person and get along with them. You’re just literally grieving the life that you thought you were going to have. Her second book called, “Woulda. Coulda. Shoulda.: A divorce coach's guide to staying married” was written basically for everybody else. She wrote that book for everybody who needs to see what divorce looks like through the lens of a divorced person and a divorce coach. For her, if she would have known then what she knows now, then she may not have gotten divorced. Because it really sucks and the divorce grass ain't greener. Divorce absolutely sucks for everybody involved. Everybody, especially for the kids. Did Jennifer regret getting a divorce? No, she didn’t. Her divorce with her ex-husband went very well. Both of them decided to do things right and put their children first because they are their top priority. After the divorce, they became best friends. They may not be the best partner for each other, but they can say it without hesitation that they are the best parents to their kids. What was the biggest mistake Jennifer ever made? Dating too soon. She thought she’s ready and she knew everything. Little did she know, her mind wasn’t. Jennifer’s pieces of advice for the people who do not want to end up getting a divorce: Find out who you are as an individual. You have to take accountability for what you did in your past relationships. You can't always place the blame on someone else. You have to own your s#it, so that you can move forward and be a better human. There's a reason why he/she cheated. For the women, if you don't f*ck your husband, somebody else will. Connect every week, same time, same day. Just like a business meeting, talk about your marriage and really figure out what's good and what's not. Don't look for the right partner. Try to be the right partner, then if you're the right partner for someone, that's how it works. Just let go of the small stuff. Make sure to tune in to this episode, and I am sure that you will learn a lot from Jennifer -- a woman who has gone through hell and was able to get back on track, and is now trying to help other people who are dealing with the same circumstances she’s gone through. Ep 49Mike Lee - Why Everyone Should Embrace a Fighter's Mindset (And How to Do it)

Mike Lee: Why Everyone Should Embrace a Fighter's Mindset Have you ever experienced pain that got to a point where you just want to quit? My guest, Mike Lee will make you realize that it’s okay to deal with pain and still move forward to reach your goals and continue your fight. He is a well-known professional boxer and was young and undefeated on top of the world at the age of 26. Last year he fought for the world title against Caleb Plant. Although, he got knocked out in the third round and ended up having his first loss, he knew that it just wasn't his night. It wasn't his fight because even in the whole training camp, he was in so much pain. Despite all the negative comments he received from a lot of people on social media, he just shrugged it off and moved forward. He is never afraid to fail, because even if he does, at least he can go to bed at night knowing that he went for it. Yes, he lost, but that made him a better human. What many don’t know is that in the prime of his career, he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, spent 2 years in and out of hospital, and got addicted to painkillers especially to Tramadol. He was taking it every single day. For him, during those hard times, that’s the only thing that kept him going. Unfortunately, those pills made him suffer from a lot of side effects -- anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. He knew that he only got 2 choices in his life. It’s either he will continue taking those pills or change it. That’s when he dove into health and fitness, and CBD is something he discovered as part of that. CBD helped Mike to get back in the ring, and fought eight or nine more fights. He won eight in a row and got to number three in the world. He co-founded My Soul CBD together with his sister, Angie Lee. CBD helped Mike overcome his anxiety and depression and he is the proof that their products really work. He’s taking it for years already and never tested positive for THC or any other contaminants. CBD has a lot of good effects in the human body. He believed that what God put on this earth is what's going to heal us from chronic pain. If you want to know more about CBD and overcoming pain, anxiety, and depression, then you will want to make sure to tune into this episode with Mike Lee. I’m certain that everyone will learn a lot from this guy. Take this lesson from him: “At the end of the day, you can’t control the cards you were dealt, no matter what situation that is. The only thing you can control is how you play them.” For people who are listening, if you share this episode and screenshot the episode, tag Mike, tag My Soul CBD and tag me with your top takeaway, I'm going to be giving away some CBD to the person who presents the biggest takeaway. Check down below where you can connect with Mike and My Soul CBD. Mike Lee bio: For the last decade, Mike has fought in front of millions in the biggest arenas in the world, from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to Madison Square Garden in New York City. However, his journey as a boxer has had a lot of ups and downs. In the prime of his career he spent almost two years in and out of hospitals battling what he found out was an autoimmune disease that almost ended his career. Fed up with countless hospital visits and years on prescription medication, Mike immersed himself in the wellness world, learning everything he could about nutrition, mindset and most importantly, CBD. With the help of the latter, Mike defied every doctor’s prognosis, and went on to win eight more fights, becoming the #3 ranked fighter in the World and eventually fighting for a World Title last July. Today, Mike is the CEO and co-founder of Soul CBD, a 7-figure CBD wellness brand, with his sister Angie Lee. With his company, Mike continues to deliver on his mission by helping thousands of people find natural relief from pain, anxiety, and more.
