Meanwhile Joe has literally risen to the top of the Buffalo Bills podcast charts with his daily Locked on Bills in recent years. Together they're two of the most well known and respect media entities in the Buffalo sphere. Biggest Bills Camp Takeaways So Far, Both Good & Bad

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by SB Nation to discuss their biggest Buffalo Bills training camp takeaways through the team's first six practices.Patrick has been present in Rochester for the past three practices, meanwhile Warren was on the field with a media credential for the team's first practice in pads earlier in the week. Together they collaborate on what's impressed and discouraged them the most. Among the positives is the play of James Cook, Matt Milano and Tre White. Also there's been a lot of optimism at the top of the wide receiver room because Keon Coleman and Josh Palmer have both looked comfortable early on.Conversely, injuries have been a huge (huge) blemish on Bills camp. The guys talk about several of them and how they've impacted what we've seen so far. Also, Patrick really isn't sold on how the Bills swing tackle competition has unfolded thus far, and a pair of fifth-round picks from a year ago are failing to find their footing in this camp. They also discuss how the weather has been a factor this past week both for players and fans taking practice in as well. That plus Matt takes us between the ropes of covering the team as an accredited media member and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Camp Observations Beyond The Max Hairston Injury (Big Day For Bosa)

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, first-round rookie Max Hairston's knee injury is rightfully dominating the headlines from Buffalo Bills training camp practice from Tuesday, but Patrick Moran has a first-hand account of several other things he saw during the team's fifth overall session of camp and second consecutive day with the pads on.As of this recording we don't the extent of Hairston's injury, but everything indicates that is was serious. Patrick talks about seeing Hairston do a drill just minutes before the injury and it's one that not only likely seals Tre White as the starter alongside Christian Benford for the 2025 season, but probably pushes another returning veteran, Dane Jackson up the cornerback depth chart as well. It's been a brutal summer already with the amount of Bills missing time with injuries and it continued beyond just Hairston on Tuesday. Safety Cole Bishop left with trainers at one point though he did return to the field but didn't participate in anymore drills. Also, Ty Johnson appeared to roll his ankle after being hit well out of bounds by linebacker Joe Andreessen.Beyond Max and the injuries though there were several other things Patrick observed and wanted to discuss. Among them is big ticket defensive end Joey Bosa having far and away his most productive camp practice as a Bill. It was also a day the defense for the most part dominated, including interceptions in 11-on-11's by Matt Milano and Daquen Hardy. However, Patrick describes two offensive plays that excited the crowd, led by a pair of unheralded receivers who are desperately trying to make an impact--they did on Tuesday. Also, Patrick was impressed Tuesday by one rookie (Jordan Hancock) but not with another (Dorian Strong). That plus special teams kinda coming together, wanting to see more from the rookie defensive lineman and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Observations: Ready To Raise Bar For Matt Milano

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has several observations after taking in Buffalo Bills training camp practice again on Monday, including feel confident enough that it's OK to raise back up the expectations of linebacker Matt Milano to the level they were a few years ago.To say it was hot and steamy at St. John Fisher on Tuesday for practice was an understatement. In fact, Patrick admits to barely making it through practice before bailing for some shade, of which there was zero of all morning long. But he persevered and stuck around for all of practice, the first with pads on of the summer and he's got several takeaways from it. At the top is the play of Milano, who's had a really (really) strong camp and right now looks very much like the former All-Pro he was a few years ago before the injury. Provided he can stay healthy Patrick think it's OK for fans and the media to put the lofty expectations back on him--he looks that good. There were other players Patrick was impressed with on Tuesday that he talks about, including Damar Hamlin (yes, Damar Hamlin), Josh Palmer, James Cook and to no one's surprise, Christian Benford. On the side of the things to be less enthusiastic about, injuries are becoming a factor for the Bills at training camp and now it's Dalton Kincaid who was out with knee soreness, the same left knee that hampered his sophomore campaign last season.Patrick also has takes on Keon Coleman looking like he's ready to be more reliable, Tre White not really being tested yet, a quiet start for pass rush specialist Javon Solomon and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Observations: Keon's Stacking Days & Position Battles Taking Shape

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran was at Buffalo Bills training camp on Sunday and has a ton of observations to discuss, some solo and also a segment with Bills reporter Alex Brasky.Alex joined Patrick live from right outside the field just minutes after practice answered and they discussed a handful of topics, including injuries to Curtis Samuel and Terrel Bernard opening up some practice opportunities and what we saw is a nice battle brewing for the spot behind Bernard between Baylon Spector, who was impressive Sunday and feel good story Joe Andreessen, who also got plenty of work. Unfortunately practice ended badly for receiver Tyrell Shavers after suffering an ankle injury at the end of practice, wiping out what was a promising day for the roster hopeful. Alex also talks about the job Cam Lewis is doing in the secondary and looks primed to keep this roster spot. For Patrick he discusses being blown away by how Keon Coleman looked Sunday, calling it the best training camp practice he’s seen from Keon so far. He was winning at all levels and sides of the field against multiple defensive backs, working to get both separation and making a really nice contested catch.Patrick also empties out his notebook from practice, talking about a big play from roster longshot Ja’Marcus Ingram, the safety position rounding into form early, another so-so day for first-round rookie Max Hairston, a fifth rounder from last year that may find himself off the active roster and much more.Be sure to follow Alex on Twitter/X at @AlexBrasky and subscribe to his Buffalo Pregame on Substack. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Top Sophomores Spotlighted Early

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's a combination of Patrick Moran's biggest takeaways through the first few days of Buffalo Bills training camp as well as a handful of submissions from The Podbag --- listener submitted questions and takes. The top players from Buffalo's 2024 draft class, Keon Coleman and Cole Bishop have unsurprisingly been in the spotlight. After a pretty rough first day of camp where star cornerback Christian Benford was mostly locking Coleman down, the receiver responded with a standout day two in making multiple catches all over the field with crispier route running and sure hands. It was enough to get the media talking positively about him and Patrick has plenty of reaction. In terms of Bishop, what Patrick expected to be a true battle between he and Damar Hamlin doesn't look it will materialize (good), as Bishop has taken the lion's share of first team reps in both of the Bills practices so far. Also there was some injury news from day two of camp as two Bills left practice early, including linebacker Dorian Williams with what looks like a calf injury. Patrick discusses that and a few other notable items. As far as the Podbag, Patrick responds to a question about things that are exciting him the most about Bills camp early on, giving a specific example to refute someone's claim that there's nothing at training camp that matters other than injuries, and discussing if Josh Allen is already the Bills greatest quarterback ever.Plus, someone compares former Buffalo Sabre JJ Peterka to Myles Garrett (lol). That plus Hulk Hogan passes away and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! What We Immediately Learned From Bills Training Camp

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo the NFL offseason is now over, Buffalo Bills training camp is officially back and Patrick Moran goes over a handful of interesting things we've learned about the Bills after just day one of training camp. For a football fan and specifically a Bills fan there isn't many things that feel better than training camp being underway at St. John's Fisher in Rochester. While the pads aren't on yet, the Bills had their first of what'll be 12 practices in Rochester away from home and there's plenty to digest already both on and off the field. Before practice began Sean McDermott met with the media and among the items discussed were four players not ready to begin practicing for camp, including Dawson Knox and Spencer Brown. Patrick has thoughts on Sean describing Brown's back as a flare up and concluding it would be naive to at least not be somewhat concerned about it, considering Brown's back surgery was three years ago. Also, Tre White and Cole Bishop got the start in the Bills secondary in initial team drills work. Should either be surprising? Probably not. What may be a bit surprising is rookie Jordan Hancock spending practice at slot corner instead of safety, at least it is to Patrick as he describes. That plus a good opener for receiver Josh Palmer, Joey Bosa sounded very comfortable and legit happy to be in Buffalo and plenty more takeaways. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Low Key Intriguing Players To Watch At Bills Training Camp

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss a handful of Buffalo Bills topics as training camp begins, including some under the radar players that fans should be intrigued to watch at camp in Rochester. The Bills don't lack for star power and everyone's eyes as always will be on guys like Josh Allen, Dion Dawkins, Matt Milano, Khalil Shakir and a few other big-named veterans. That said, there's some younger guys on the team that Patrick's excited to lock into at camp for varying reasons. Together he and Matt discuss some of them, a list that includes Javon Solomon, Jordan Hancock, Dewayne Carter, Joe Andreessen and Joshua Palmer--with the last name being debatable if he's an "under the radar" type guy. Also, Patrick plays a clip from a show last week that featured Matt Parrino and Matthew Fairburn where they talked about the cultural and personality change of Sean McDermott recently, at least it appears as such and Matt Warren (all these Matt's are getting confusing!) has reaction to to it. That plus thoughts on Tim Graham calling this one of the dullest great teams he's ever covered, the Bills having the fourth-best roster in the league in a recent ESPN article and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Biggest Bills Mysteries Entering Training Camp

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Alex Brasky, creator of Buffalo Pregame for Substack to talk several topics revolving around the start of Buffalo Bills training camp this week in Rochester. There's not a ton of prominent battles expected for roster sports or depth chart positioning with Bills camp but that doesn't mean there's a lack of interesting storylines, including a solid handful that we don't yet a solid idea how they'll play out. Among them Patrick and Alex discuss is while James Cook will report to camp, will he be a full participant when camp starts and as it progresses. Cook has been very public about wanting a new contract and it doesn't feel like the Bills are willing to accompany a price he's looking for at this time. It was certainly encouraging that Cook reported to and participated fully during Bills mandatory mini camp in May, but him being a "hold in" is definitely on the table at St. John's Fisher. Also discussed is an expected battle between the veteran Tre White and first-round rookie Max Hairston to see who starts at cornerback alongside Christian Benford. Elijah Moore vs Curtis Samuel to be a notable part of the offense is something else we could see play out over the next few weeks. Also, Mitch Trubisky will be pushed by Mike White to for the QB2 job. Also, who ends up being the primary kick and/or punt returner? That plus the guys look back at last weekend's fun at Mafia Con, Alex talks about launching his own Substack and much more.Be sure to follow Alex on Twitter/X at @AlexBrasky and subscribe to his Buffalo Pregame on Substack. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Tim Graham Live From MafiaCon

E

On today's milestone 1,1ooth episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by sports journalist Tim Graham for a conversation ranging a handful of Buffalo sports topics recorded live from Mafia Con 2 this past weekend at Seneca One in downtown Buffalo. The second edition of Mafia Con was far bigger than the first last year and Graham, who joined Patrick for the event last year to discuss the supersizing fun event that brings thousands of Bills fans together. From there they get into a discussion into what Tim was doing at the same time last year before this event, finishing up a feature story on Bills linebacker Terrell Bernard that had Tim travel to Texas to spend some time with him. Tim wrote about the leadership qualities of Bernard and sure enough a handful of weeks later before the regular season season started, Sean McDermott named Bernard one of just two captains on the team alongside Josh Allen.Speaking of Sean, Tim has thoughts on the evolution of him as Bills head coach of certs, willing to make himself a little more open and vulnerable, something Patrick thinks was necessarily in his growth that could help save his message from getting stale in the locker room. They also about Tim's recent story in The Athletic about the Bills process the last time they were getting ready to move into what would be a new Rich Stadium in 1973. That and a few other things as well. Big shout out to Del Reid and everyone who helped put this fun event together. Matt Parrino & Matt Fairburn (Live From Imperial Pizza)

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by both Matt Parrino and Matthew Fairburn for a conversation about Buffalo sports, media and life that's recorded live at Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo. The Buffalo sports media landscape has changed a lot over the past decade, particularly on the Bills side and the Fairburn/Parrino combo have plenty to do with it. Syracuse(dot com) started covering the Bills in 2014 with a young upstart Fairburn anchoring that coverage. He talks about putting that outlet on the map as a credible source of coverage for Bills fans. Fairburn left the outlet to join a startup The Athletic in 2018 and Parrino, who was covering UFC in Las Vegas at time moved back to his hometown of Buffalo to take over. Parrino's taking the coverage to another level and discusses the interactive media element he brought there, especially the Shout! podcast he does with co-host Ryan Talbot. This episode is a discussion about several other things featuring two of the best sports journalists in the business today.Big shout-out and thank you once again to Imperial Pizza for being a gracious host and for their excellent wings. Good Cop/Bad Cop With Sabres Hope Strategy

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by broadcaster and Buffalo sports fan Steve Bermel to talk a variety of Buffalo sports topics, including strong debates over how the Buffalo Sabres have handled the offseason and what the prospects are of finally ending their historic playoff drought this upcoming season.Regardless of whether you're an optimistic or pessimistic fan of the Sabres, it's pretty universal in that it appears like the team didn't much in terms of any offseason overhaul between free agency or trades, at least not until this point. Because of that the feeling is Terry Pegula, Kevyn Adams and the Sabres are set to rely on a series of factors focused on hope internally within the team to finally get out of the rut they've been stuck in for nearly a decade and a half. Patrick's been clear on this show that he doesn't believe in the organization. Steve on the other hand is very much still a believer so the two of them play sone good cop/bad cop when it comes to several things that need to happen in Buffalo's favor.Among them are Josh Norris staying healthy, Jack Quinn and Zach Benson significantly raising their games offensively, Jiri Kulich showing he's ready to be a full-time top six center, Owen Power starting to look a top overall pick, Mattias Samuelsson changing plenty about his game, UPL being more consistent in net and the power play doing something other than terrible. Also, the guys have thoughts on the just released Sabres schedule. That plus some Bills training camp thoughts as it's now just days away and plenty more.Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Focusing On Bills Second Year Players (Plus Kincaid Feature Reaction)

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss a handful of Buffalo Bills topics, including a look at the second-year players on the roster that will undoubtedly have a big say on if the Bills 2025 campaign is a success.Last year's Bills rookie class was a mixed bag at best. Truthfully speaking I think the organization expected bigger contributions as a whole from their rookies. That's not to say they didn't sometimes have a positive impact on the team, it just didn't feel like it happened often enough. The guys dive into several of the players the team will count on for more consistent efforts, a list that starts with Keon Coleman and Cole Bishop and goes on down to complimentary players like Ray Davis, Dewayne Carter, Javon Solomon and Joe Andreessen. Also, it feels like a few times per year a Tyler Dunne masterfully crafted Bills feature story is discussed on this show. Today's one of those days and the guys react to an awesome story Tyler dropped on Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid earlier this week. Dunne wrote about a Bills veteran who's poignant words got him to "own" the play he didn't make the AFC championship game and fuel his desire to have the breakout season many are hoping for if not expecting this season. That plus is Josh Allen already the greatest Buffalo Bills of all-time and more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News to discuss the Buffalo Bills, Sabres and why he's now covering the Bills instead of the Sabres at The Buffalo News.Lance originally came to The Buffalo News to cover the Sabres in the fall of 2018. Even back then he came to Buffalo making a big switch, as he covered the Pittsburgh Pirates and MLB previously. Now he's doing it again as after covering the Sabres for the past seven seasons he's switching not only teams, but sports again as he'll be a reporter covering the Bills. Lance gives us the details in what went behind the decision, what makes him happy about it and what will be some of the biggest challenges. He also discusses what it was like covering a team in the Sabres that lost and failed to make the playoffs for his entire duration there (and seven years before that as well) and how that could be frustrating, not necessarily as a sports journalist but having to deal with players constantly tired and a fan base that's become largely negative towards anything and everything Sabres for----well obvious reasons. They also have a discussion about both the Bills and Sabres, ranging from storylines he's looking forward to seeing unfold and cover in training camp (starting next week) to if he thinks the Sabres have any realistic chance of ending their playoff drought based on what this offseason has brought for them so far. That plus how he's enjoying the summer and his time in Buffalo as a whole and plenty more.Make sure to follow Lance @Llysowski. and check out his excellent work at The Buffalo News.♦♦♦♦♦The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Building The Perfect Bills All-Time 53 Man Roster

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss a variety of topics, including Patrick trying to build the perfect 53-man all-time roster that includes several factors and Joe objecting to a handful of the choices.Based on fit and in at a handful of cases, the ability to play special teams all weighed heavily at times into some of Patrick's decision on what would be his perfect Bills all-time roster. Some of the players and positions leave room for debate, but there's a handful of guys Joe objects to being on in favor of others who he considered snubbed, a list that includes James Lofton, Thomas Smith and Jerry Hughes. Also, Joe doesn't think Jim Kelly should be on the roster and after giving his reasoning, it actually makes a lot of sense. A handful of Patrick's choice are based on special teams ability, including Steve Tasker, Mark Pike and Sam Rogers. Also, the guys have a conversation based on their kids that stems from a recent episode involving Bulldog from WGR and his son Owen. That plus Joe's Mt. Flushmore of worst Highmark Stadium moments that have nothing to do with the games and tons more.♦♦♦♦♦The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Should Buffalo Bills Skill Positions Rank Be So Low?

E

On this bonus Saturday episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag and Patrick Moran is responding to questions, comments and takes submitted by listeners revolving around the Buffalo Bills, Sabres and this podcast. There was no podcast this past Monday as Patrick was a bit under the weather and seeing we're insistent on providing our audience five shows per week, we're making up for it today with this weekend podbag edition. On the Bills side of things, Patrick elaborates on whether he thinks a recent Bill Barnwell ranking that had the Bills just 28th in skilled position players is justified or if he considers it too low. Also, is James Cook a top 10 running back in the league right now? One listener definitely thinks so.On the Sabres front it's a continuation of what we've seen plenty of lately---and that's frustration from fans with many of them feeling this team is barely even trying anymore. Hope won't get you very far and that's what the Sabres seem to be clinging too. There's also a few submissions regarding recent podcast episodes here and more.♦♦♦♦♦The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Sabres Glaring Lack Of Urgency Is Infuriating

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chris Ostrander from Two in the Box to discuss several topics, including what's turning out to feel like a glaring lack of urgency from the Buffalo Sabres to throw caution to the wind and operate with a sense of urgency. The Sabres have missed the playoff a historic 14 years and are tied with the New York Jets for the longest drought in all of the four major professional sports. They also have a general manager and head coach both in the final year of their contracts. However, you'd never know given the way they've operated this offseason, with the exception of one trade has very much felt like the status quo. Chris has plenty of thoughts it all and spoiler alert---most of them aren't of the positive variety. One topic examined is if this organization has legitimately sucked all the passion or even the fun out of being a Buffalo Sabres fan. Also, Chris explains as best he can what happened to the soccer stadium that was supposed to get built in downtown Buffalo to support a professional soccer team. That plus reliving the Sabres Tim Kennedy fiasco from 15 years ago and tons more.Be sure to follow Chris on X at @2ITB_Buffalo and check out the Two in the Box blog in addition to the Instigator Podcast.♦♦♦♦♦The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! The Bills Vastly Underrated OL & Other Bills/Sabres Musings

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective to discuss a handful of Buffalo Bills and Sabres topics, including paying homage to a Bills offensive line that has been insanely underrated over the past two seasons.Josh Allen has become one of and arguably the best quarterback if not player in the entire NFL. The reigning NFL MVP has a skill set and penchant for making memorable plays you don't see often. While his style of play and athletic traits make him a unicorn of sorts, there's other reasons why Allen has been able to enjoy the sustainable success he's had in recent years and one of the biggest is the play of his offensive line. The unit has been stellar, consistent and perhaps most importantly, healthy for the past few seasons. The guys discuss how Dion Dawkins, O'Cyrus Torrence, Connor McGovern, David Edwards, Spencer Brown and Alec Anderson continue to pave the way for Allen to shine. That said, let's not take away too much from Allen, as the guys discuss some of the things that make him a special player and in at least some ways, kind of fly under the radar with Buffalo sports talk.Unfortunately things don't seem to be looking up on the Sabres side and the guys talk about that too, including what certainly appears to be a lack or urgency from the organization to put an end fo a miserable and historic 14-year playoff drought. That and much more. You can follow PK on Twitter @PK_BSC and check out the Buffalo Sports Collective podcast.♦♦♦♦♦The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss several Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including a handful of Bills that have the potential for the biggest bounce back seasons in 2025.There's a handful of Bills players that for a variety of reasons weren't at their best last season. Matt and Patrick dive into some of them that feel primed to step their back up this coming season, a list that includes Dalton Kincaid, Taron Johnson, Ed Oliver, Matt Milano and Curtis Samuel. They also go over the same topic with players and teams around the league that include the Cincinnati Bengals, Aaron Rodgers, Dak Prescott and Caleb Williams. Bills/Sabres Podbag & Reaction To Yesterday's Memorable Episode

E

Happy Independence Day, everyone! On this holiday episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag featuring Buffalo Bills and Sabres submissions in addition to reaction to yesterday's memorable episode. On yesterday's Talking Buffalo Patrick welcomed Chris "Bulldog" Parker and his son, Owen for a conversation on many topics, including Owen's youth hockey career and sports parenting. It was a fascination that turned emotional a few times, drawing incredibly positive reactions from listeners and in fact, became the most downloaded episode of Talking Buffalo in the first 24 hours of any episode ever. Patrick spends some time at the top reacting to some of the things the three of them touched on and offers some further insight of his own, again with the purpose of hopefully bringing some value to anyone out there who's a parent that has a children playing sports. There's a lot to learn from, both the good and from some of the mistakes that get made. The second half of the show is about the Podbag, where listeners submit their questions, comments and takes for Patrick to read off on the air and react to. Today's batch includes the never ending frustration of Sabres fans, someone who thinks Kevyn Adams is literally the worst GM in franchise history, Josh Allen's burning desire that'll last until he wins a Super Bowl and if the Bills are kind of "stuck" with DaQuan Jones for another season. That, plus Matt Warren is really tall and much more. Enjoy the Holiday weekend! The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Chris "Bulldog" Parker & Owen Parker, Live From Sonny Red's

E

On this special episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by one of Buffalo's most popular sports media figures, Chris "Bulldog" Parker (WGR-550) as well as his son, Owen for a conversation about sports and life recorded live from Sonny Red's in Lackawanna.Schopp and the Bulldog has been Buffalo sports talk radio's most listened to tandem since the two got together more than 20 years agon in 2003. Patrick asks Bulldog some questions about his career that didn't start out full time----Bulldog actually worked at a pizzeria before getting into radio full time. They also spend a good chunk about being dads or more specifically, what life was like as sports dads to talented young athletes, all the highs and lows that come with it and perhaps some advice for parents of younger children now.To assist in that conversation, Owen offers tremendous insight as a promising teen athlete not long ago. Of course, there's plenty of Sabres and Bills talk and the guys hit on both. Bulldog talks about erasing the false narrative that his radio station isn't objectively critical of the sports teams and especially the Sabres. In the case of the Sabres it's entirely deserved and the guys dig into a few of the reasons why. On the Bills side it's optimism all the way around as we're just under three weeks from the start of training camp. What are some of the things Bulldog's most locked in on? That and plenty more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Sabres UFA Day One Reactions & Rants (Featuring Joe Yerdon)

E

On today's episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by hockey writer and sports media personality Joe Yerdon for a conversation covering everything going on with the Buffalo Sabres over the past week through the first day of free agency, including the addition of a goaltender and extension of a talented forward.Sabres fans, the ones who haven't bailed on team completely are mostly irate and deservedly so. Joe has thoughts on everything that's happened to the team, what's going on now and what he forecasts between now and the start of the regular season in October including Ryan McLeod getting rewarded with a new four-year deal, Alex Lyon joining the goaltending group, the trade last week of JJ Peterka and tons more.He also deals with a very angry Patrick, who has several Sabres related tangents to get off his chest, including the reported dismissal of a TV producer because the team broadcast has been considered "too critical" by higher ups in the organization as well as certain people in the sports media regularly talking down to frustrated fans, which sets Patrick off even farther. That and much more.Follow Joe on Blue Sky @joeyerdon.bsky.social.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! How Close Is Josh Allen To Being A Top 10 All-Time QB?

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss among other things if Josh Allen becomes a Top 10 all-time quarterback in the NFL within the next year if the Buffalo Bills are to win a Super Bowl this season.Joe's in person with Patrick for the second of two episodes recorded at Imperial Pizza. Former NFL player James Jones recently said on a Fox Sports talk show that he thinks Allen would become a top 10 quarterback all-time if the Bills can get over the hump and win a Super Bowl this year. The guys deep dive into the topic, examining where he's at right now in his career and how much winning the Super Bowl would elevate where he already stands.Besides talking Josh's credentials they go over those of many and right off the bat conclude there's nothing Josh can do this season alone to surpass Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning and Patrick Mahomes as well as probably Aaron Rodgers. Things start to get interesting after that with a tier of quarterbacks that include Brett Favre, Dan Marino and Drew Brees. A Josh Allen Super Bowl probably could elevate him over Kurt Warner, Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw and perhaps Johnny Unitas as well. Also, if Josh never took another snap again would he be in the Hall of Fame? That plus wondering if Allen's actually better than Mahomes right now today and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Preventing A Buffalo Bills 2025 Letdown

E

Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for a discussion on factors that will help prevent a 2025 Buffalo Bills letdown as well as the overall frustration with the Buffalo Sabres on this episode of Talking Buffalo, recorded live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo.Joe's in town so instead of doing the show remotely like usual, he's in person with Patrick for the first of two consecutive episodes this week. As has been the case since 2020, the Bills are going into another season among the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl. Obviously it hasn't happened yet and while this season feels like as good a chance as any, there's a handful of factors that will most help this vision of winning a championship come to fruition. The guys discuss a lot of them including the continued growth if not leaps this year from both Dalton Kincaid and Keon Coleman, getting key contributions from the three rookie defensive linemen Brandon Beane invested in, cornerback Max Hairston being ready to start early if not week one, continued good health on the offensive line and of course more MVP caliber play from quarterback Josh Allen.Things aren't nearly as promising on the hockey side. The guys talk about how so many fans are done with Kevyn Adams and for good reason---it just feels like another offseason on the horizon where the team doesn't do what it takes to become an organization fans and the rest of the league take serious. That plus some comments from the peanut gallery, Joe's take on the wing sand much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Well, We Can't Say The Sabres Are Boring

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chris Ostrander to discuss several Buffalo Sabres topics, including the semi-shocking Wednesday late night trade that sent JJ Peterka to the Utah Mammoth in exchange for Michael Kesselring and Josh Doan, and what craziness could be up next for the organization. It's not entirely shocking Peterka ended up getting traded and in fact, the writing was on the wall when listening to general manager Kevyn Adams' extremely awkward press conference a few days ago. What is surprising, at least to most is that Adams wasn't able to fetch at least a little more for a 23-year old forward who scored 27 goals last year and was one of the best three forwards on the team. Chris has insight of the deal from every angle---from losing Peterka to what Kesselring and Doan will bring to the table for Buffalo. If nothing else, we're not even at the NHL draft yet and you can't accuse the Sabres for being boring. The guys have plenty of reaction to the Adams presser from earlier this week, a Q&A that left a lot of media befuddled and fans angry, a common theme when it comes to these press conferences. Also, the NHL draft is tonight and the Sabres currently hold the ninth pick. Will they keep or trade it? Will it be dealt before you even hear this podcast? That, a preview into next week's free agency and much more today.Be sure to follow Chris on X at @2ITB_Buffalo and check out the Two in the Box blog in addition to the Instigator Podcast. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! There's An Unearned Arrogance To Kevyn Adams

E

It’s another edition of The Podbag on today’s Talking Buffalo as Patrick Moran is answering questions, comments and takes from listeners on a variety of subjects, including a rant on Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams that strongly suggests he's carrying a sense of unearned arrogance with him.Other than a small minority of Sabres fans who choose to remain optimistic about the team through thick and think (and good on them), it feels at this point people are hate following the organization more than anything. Adams absolutely didn't do himself or the team any favors on Tuesday with a pre-draft press conference that many considered borderline embarrassing and sadly at this point that feels like a trend. Rather than spend the entire show responding to various Adams takes all circling around the same thing, Patrick addresses Adams with one segment, taking offense to some of the things said and the tone he felt it was done with. There's also plenty of Sabres takes submitted discussed that go beyond just blasting away on Adams, including one comment that the Sabres feel like their run like the MLB version of the Pittsburgh Pirates at this point. There's also a few Buffalo Bills submissions to discuss, including someone being high on wide receiver Elijah Moore and perhaps a little too high on reserve defensive back JaMarcus Ingram. That plus Alexander Mogilny is FINALLY going into the Hockey Hall of Fame and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Biggest Bills Fears In Advance Of Training Camp

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to go over a list of things that could be regarded as the Buffalo Bills biggest fears going into the 2025 season beyond of course just injuries. The Bills are once again significantly favored to win the AFC East for what would be a sixth straight time and poised to once again challenge for a Super Bowl. As of this recording their the lone team in the NFL favored to win every game they play this season. While optimism is as high as it absolutely should be, that's not to say there isn't fears or perhaps even a couple doubts that hang over this team.Among them discussed is the possibility, even if distinct that after eight years as Bills head coach, Sean McDermott's message to the team could start getting a little stale. There's also the possibility that first-round pick Maxwell Hairston isn't quite ready to to take the reigns as starting cornerback to begin the season, which could lead to a potentially shaky Tre White being responsible out there. There's also reason to be concern that with DaQuan Jones' best days behind him, his production could fall off a cliff in 2025 without anyone proven ready to step in. Also, Joey Bosa is anything but a lock to be ready to go let alone doing so at full speed. Plus, will the laws of gravity catch up to Buffalo? The guys also spend a little time talking about some topics from around the league, with Matt forecasting an early prediction for NFL MVP if it can't be Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes. That plus an early NFL Rookie of the Year projection, who will be the league's best unrestricted free agent signing this season and much more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Potential Big Week Looms For Buffalo Sabres

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Diegert from the Due Champions podcast to discuss a handful of topics, including a potential very big week looming for the Buffalo Sabres as well as some Bills talk.Matt's co-host of the Due Champions podcast alongside his partner Student Body Right. Together they've been banging on some really good Bills content for quite a while and their list of notable guests has been quite impressive. Patrick spends a few minutes getting to know Matt and their show a little bit and discusses the charity event they had in Hamburg over the weekend Patrick attended that included several notable athletes, including Harrison Phillips, Jim Kelly and Aaron Williams. The central theme of today's episode is hockey and more specifically the Sabres. The Stanley Cup is over and the NHL draft is this coming in Friday, with free agency barely a week away. It's imperative the Sabres make a trade or preferably multiple trades, because it's (highly) unlikely any free agent of value is going to want to sign with Buffalo without getting potentially grossly overpaid. The guys talk about what an important time of year this is for a team that's desperate to rid itself of the historic 14-year playoff drought they're stuck in.They also spend some time talking about the Bills. What are a few things Matt's locked in on as the team gets ready for training camp a few weeks from now in Rochester? That and much more. Bills All-Time Fun Facts, Plus Ranking All 2025 Home Games

E

Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including learning about some Buffalo Bills historic team fun facts we're betting you didn't know and ranking all the Buffalo Bills 2025 home games from a visiting perspective. With just a few weeks to go before the Bills start training camp in Rochester let's be honest---there really isn't much to discuss about the 2025 team at the moment that hasn't been already. But that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun. Patrick drops a series of statistical fun facts about the Bills from the past to see if Joe or anyone listening had any idea. Also, we previously covered ranking the 2025 Bills road trips on an episode. Today Patrick tasks Joe with ranking the Bills 2025 home schedule as games someone who doesn't live in Western New York would want to to travel to with a handful of factors like opponent, weather, time of year included. In addition, Joe's Mt. Flushmore this week revolves around the worst offseason content. That plus Joe thinks Sabres fans are being reminded of the Chris Drury/Daniel Briere fiasco again, Patrick's True or False segment and tons more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Curtis Samuel May Be The Bills Biggest Mystery

E

It's another edition of The Podbag on today's Talking Buffalo as Patrick Moran is answering questions, comments and takes from listeners on a variety of subjects, including an explanation on why Buffalo Bills wide receiver may be the biggest mystery when it comes to this 2025 roster.Samuel was a big(ish) ticket free agent signee last year that didn't work out. He caught just 31 passes for 253 yards during the regular season, though two of his six catches in the playoffs did go for touchdowns. Brandon Beane signed Elijah Moore recently and he's looked impressive in workouts since joining the team. In Patrick's eyes that's setting up to be arguably the biggest battle of training camp, as there's only room for one of them to be in the receiving group's top four if everyone stays healthy. Samuel has the ability to make an impact on the team this year that he didn't in 2024 but at the same token, could also become someone Beane looks to trade or at the very least, nothing more than insurance as long as the unit stays healthy. Also, Patrick's asked what veterans may have the hardest time earning and/or keeping their jobs at training camp and Patrick puts that spotlight on a handful of defensive backs after Buffalo used three draft picks on the secondary. There's also a few comments regarding the Sabres and with this now officially being offseason, the annual time of hope. That plus Patrick defends Florida sports fans---sort of, is asked for a specific type of restaurant recommendation, explains a few things from his home studio and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Reinhart's Cup Performance Reignites Sabres Fans Anger

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by sports broadcaster and podcaster Steve Bermel for a discussion on a few topics, including Sam Reinhart's dominating Stanley Cup clinching performance for Florida that reignited some anger in a Buffalo Sabres fan base that already had plenty of it to spare. It doesn't take much to rile up or at least significantly annoy Sabres fans these days, understandably so for obvious reasons. In what became the final act of the 2024-25 NHL season it was the former Sabre Reinhart who took over on the sport's biggest stage, scoring four goals as Florida beat Edmonton to hoist the Cup for a second straight year. Of course, Reinhart being the shining star naturally opens up old wounds for fans of the Sabres and leads to a discussion on how unbelievable it is that so many former Buffalo players went on to taste their huge success after leaving the organization.Meanwhile, Patrick isn't mad about Sam as much as he feels bad for Connor McDavid, the sport's biggest star who keeps coming up short in his quest to win a championship. Also, going by the ratings it seems like most people in Florida don't care about the Panthers winning the Cup and that makes it suck even more for Sabres fans who still have passion for hockey. That plus Bills camp now has a start date and schedule.Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Biggest Buffalo Bills Post Minicamp Developments

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including taking a look at nine of the biggest Bills post minicamp developments. The Bills held mandatory minicamp last week and it was their last group workouts before training camp begins at St. John's Fisher in Rochester in late July. There's several things stemming from minicamp worth talking about, including the at least somewhat surprising not only reporting but full participation of running back James Cook. With him clearly hunting down a huge contract and the Bills seemingly unlikely to give it to him there was widespread belief that Cook would either not report at all or report and not participate. That theory was escalated recently when NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Cook may not be in Buffalo for quite a while. However, that didn't turn out to be the case, Cook also met with the media and the guys have plenty of thoughts on this development. Also, new wide receiver Elijah Moore feels like the real deal early on per reports from several media members. He's set up for an opportunity to have a solid role in this offense and that's discussed, as is Dalton Kincaid reportedly finishing minicamp on a high note, Keon Coleman being very blunt about his rookie season and Joe Andreessen perhaps turning into more than just a Cinderella story in year two. They also spend a little time talking about the AFC, including discussing if Pittsburgh or Cincinnati is more likely to make the playoffs this season and if Denver or Los Angeles have the better chance to finally knock off Kansas City in the AFC west. That plus promising news with Joey Bosa and plenty more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content.♦♦♦♦♦The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Chad DeDominicis Talks Sabres Mock OffSeason & Situation With JJ Peterka

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chad DeDominicis from Expected Buffalo to discuss their Buffalo Sabres mock offseason that just dropped in addition to what the situation is with reportedly disgruntled forward JJ Peterka and other Sabres topics. There's been reports that Peterka, a restricted free agent is unhappy with the direction of the Sabres and is hoping to play somewhere else sooner than later. Where are these leaks coming from? How much leverage does Peterka, who scored 27 goals last year and has 55 over the past two seasons actually have? Will another team sign him to an offer sheet? Will the Sabres match any offer that's presented? What would it take for Peterka to commit to Buffalo long term? Chad has thoughts on all these based on what he's heard and what his gut tells him. From there they go over the Sabres mock offseason Chad put out alongside his Expected Buffalo partner Anthony. What RFA's are they qualifying? Are they signing any to long-term deals? Do they pull off a big trade, perhaps for Jason Robertson or Keandre Miller? Is Alex Tuch getting an extension? What free agents are being targeted? Chad tries to project what will happen in advance of the real thing starting within the next few weeks. That plus Kevyn Adams knowing this is his last chance to turn things around and plenty more with Chad, who you can follow on Twitter @CMDeDominicis and be sure to check out Expected Buffalo.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Exploring The Mostly Lousy Bills, Panthers Pipeline

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including an examination of the (mostly lousy) Carolina Panthers to Buffalo Bills pipeline since Sean McDermott came to Buffalo in 2017.The Bills have obviously been very good during the McDermott/Brandon Beane tenure through this point, making the playoffs all but one year (2018) and have won the AFC east the past five seasons. There's a lot of reasons for their success, but upon examination the constant Panthers to Bills pipeline isn't really among them. The Bills have had 19 players come over from Carolina that played for the Panthers while McDermott was still there. The guys go through and it becomes apparent quickly that the vast majority of those players stunk as Bills. Among them discusses is Star Lotulelei, Vernon Butler, Kelvin Benjamin, AJ Klein and Mike Tolbert. There's also five other players who spent at least two seasons with Carolina after McDermott was gone and ended up with the Bills after and they really weren't much better. Also, James Cook reported to and participated fully in minicamp last week, which was a pleasant shock to many people including Joe, who just last week predicted Cook wouldn't play for Buffalo until Week eight. They discuss the hot topic that's been at or near the top of Bills storylines all season that seemingly got put to bed. Also, who's the third best quarterback in Bills history after Jim Kelly and Josh Allen? That plus Joe's Mt. Flushmore of worst fathers, Patrick's True or False segment and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. The Buffalo Bills Sneaky Good Depth (Podbag)

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it’s another edition of The Podbag, filled with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including discussing the Buffalo Bills depth that is significantly better than most give it credit for, favorite Highmark Stadium memory, the Sabres need for a goaltender and other fun topics. The Bills essentially did nothing at linebacker this entire season until signing veteran Shaq Thompson this past week. Not adding was a decision Patrick didn't like for the majority of the offseason but a submission in the Podbag causes reflection and upon it, realizes there's a reason for it, which leads to thinking about how much quality depth this team has almost entirely across the board. Also, a fan talks about Josh Allen's performance against New England in the playoffs and the Frank Reich comeback game as the best all-time memories of the Stadium, which of course is heading into its final year of play. Patrick acknowledges though but disagrees and picks something different as his favorite memory.Other Bills topics include discussing a veteran player who could find himself in trouble this summer and a fam wondering how much James Cook likes being in Buffalo. There's also a few Sabres submissions as well, including a fan admitting the Sabres effect his mental health (yikes). That plus coffee, Busch Light Apple, power ranking the days of the week and more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. 2025 Chicken Wing Rankings & Tiers

E

On this special episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is counting down all of his favorite (and least favorite) wing spots in Western New York, taking 97 spots and putting them into seven different tiers that includes his Mt. Rushmore for the year. He's joined by Tommy Seifert from the Buffalo Wing Coalition for his insight and opinions as well. This is the fourth consecutive year on the podcast Patrick's done a wings ranking and tiers show. A spreadsheet and power rankings nerd, Patrick's been writing reviews and placing wing spots into tiers for years. As always some of the picks are controversial and heavily disagreed on, which of course is primarily because it's a completely subjective process where's it's purely opinion and no right or wrong answer. Patrick highlights several of his most underrated and overrated picks, which is documented through seven tiers: Waiver Wire, Roster Bubble, Depth Chart, Solid Starters, All Pro, Elite and ultimately the Mt. Rushmore.Tommy has a lot of thoughts as well and discusses where he thinks Patrick got it right and wrong. The Buffalo Wing Coalition has been an amazing resource for people who love wings in the area and it continues to grow. They have their own pyramid of wings rankings, consistent reviews from places both popular and obscure and an incredibly resourceful list of wing specials by location, price and night that'll make going out for wings significantly cheaper. Reviewing The Bills 2024 Offseason, One Year Later (Plus, Cook Reports)

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss a handful of Buffalo Bills topics, including an examination of their 2024 offseason one year later and the never ending saga of James Cook this offseason. It's been an eventful offseason for Brandon Beane and company since losing to Kansas City in the AFC title game this past January. Rather than focusing on that today the guys are going back a ful year to review how the 2024 offseason went. They reflect on and discuss some of the Bills biggest moves, including the re-signings of David Edwards, AJ Epenesa and Taylor Rapp, contract extensions for Dion Dawkins, Taron Johnson and Spencer Brown, signing Curtis Samuel and the draft selections of Keon Coleman, Cole Bishop and Ray Davis. As for Cook, how his contract and Cook's participation with the Bills plays out this season remains mysterious as the Bills begin mandatory minicamp this week but it's certainly a step in the right direction that he reported for minicamp. Matt and Patrick wonder who may blink first if push comes to shove this summer at training camp and potentially into the regular season. That plus some commentary on head coach Sean McDermott and plenty more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblings for your (really good) daily Bills content.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Time For Sabres To Truly Activate Desperation Mode

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by blogger, podcaster and recurring guest Chris Ostrander (Two in the Box) for a discussion on several Buffalo Sabres topics, including reaction to Matthew Fairburn's Sabres piece in The Athletic last week, a rebuttal of sorts from a former team employee and Chris' post covering the hiring of Jarmo Kekäläinen as a senior adviser.Fairburn's piece that essentially concluded the Sabres organization has been like a hamster wheel caught the attention of many fans over the last week and Matthew talked about the article in depth as a guest on this show last Thursday. Today Chris offers his takes on Matthew's story, which not only brought to light Kevyn Adams' rise to power but more/less painted a gloomy picture of the organization, one that's easily deserved after 14 years of missing out on the playoffs. Also, a former Sabres social media manager (Craig Kanalley) wrote a piece on his Substack page that respectfully took issue with some of the topics from Fairburn's piece. The guys react to what they liked and didn't about Craig's post.Of course the real story with the Sabres is what they're going to do to improve this roster, perhaps dramatically and end their playoff drought. It's pretty safe to assume desperation mode needs to be activated for the organization and Chris has some thoughts on what that may entail. Plus, Chris discusses his post on the hire of Kekalainen as senior advisor, perhaps a little Buffalo Bills talk and more.Be sure to follow Chris on X at @2ITB_Buffalo and check out the Two in the Box blog in addition to the Instigator Podcast.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Should McDermott Have A Super Bowl Mandate For 2025?

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including in light of what happened this past week in the NBA with the New York Knicks and Tom Thibodeau, what it would take for Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula to put Sean McDermott on the hot season or even fire him.Under Thibs, the Knicks won at least 50 games in back to back seasons for the first time since the early 90's, made the playoffs four of the past five years with at least a first round win in the last three years, and made the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. Despite all that the Knicks upper management decided Thibs had taken New York as far as they were going to go under him and fired him. That got Patrick wondering what it would take for Pegula to ultimately sour on McDermott given some of the parallels between the two teams. McDermott has led the Bills to consistently good regular seasons, division titles and even playoff wins but has hit a wall every year in the playoffs, with that wall usually being Kansas City. The guys discuss some of the similarities and differences between Thibs and McDermott and try to paint a picture of what it would take, realistically for Pegula to decide that maybe it's time to move on and find a coach that'll get them over the hump. Of course, that coach may ultimately be McDermott and that's discussed too. Also, the James Cook situation isn't getting better per most recent reports and the guys have thoughts on that. In another Bills topic the question is posed if you'd sign up for 775 yards receiving from Keon Coleman this season right now. That plus Joe's Mt. Flushmore of crappy Sabres suits, Patrick's "Finish the Sentence" segment and plenty more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. What's Most Held The Buffalo Bills Back?

E

On this rare weekend Saturday episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by sports broadcaster and recurring guest Steve Bermel to discuss a handful of Buffalo sports topics, including taking a long and perhaps painful look at what's kept the Buffalo Bills from reaching or winning a Super Bowl during the McBeane era.Following a 17-year drought Buffalo Bills fans obviously have a ton to be happy about. Buffalo has won the AFC East five consecutive seasons and have also won at least one postseason game each year during that run. They've also appeared in two AFC championship games and of course, have the reigning NFL MVP in quarterback Josh Allen. Life's been mostly good. However, this is also a team that has been Super Bowl favorites almost every year during that time and going by the ultimate standard and measure of success, have fallen short. The guys dive into four reasons, the biggest in Patrick's eyes for Buffalo failing to get over the hump and reach the Super Bowl for the first time since the early 1990's. That includes a defense that's been perfectly fine during the regular season but utterly imploded in every playoff elimination loss under head coach Sean McDermott. Speaking of, situational coaching has killed them on more than one occasion during this run, as has the lack of an edge rusher or cornerback making a truly meaningful play and last but not least, the most untimely drops from receivers. All are discussed. Also, Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic wrote an excellent story on the Buffalo Sabres this week and appeared on this podcast a few days ago to provide insight on it. The guys talk about that. They also talk about Steve being in the booth a few weeks ago and getting to call the Buffalo Bandits winning their third consecutive NLL championship in front of their rabid fans at the Key Bank Center. That and more.Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Predicting The Bills 2025 Receiving Yards Leaders

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it’s another edition of The Podbag, filled with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including predicting who the Bills 2025 leaders will be in receiving yards from one through 10.There’s no Stefon Diggs, Eric Moulds or Andre Reed in the Bills pass catching room, so trying to forecast who’ll lead the team in receiving yards let alone charting it from one to 10 is no easy task. That doesn’t stop Patrick from taking a stab at it anyway. It doesn’t take long for him to figure out that barring injury, Khalil Shakir feels like the only sure thing with Dalton Kincaid, Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer, Curtis Samuel and Elijah Moore all being legitimate wild cards. Also, a listener has a hot take that Brandon Beane should’ve signed James Cook to an extension before Shakir, which leads to Patrick elaborating on why he disagrees but still concludes fans are writing off Cook because they think it’s a formality that his time with Buffalo is nearing a conclusion.Kincaid going into what feels like a make or break year is also discussed, as is Mack Hollins not returning, Bills super fans and Joe From Queens. That and plenty more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Matthew Fairburn Discusses "Hamster Wheel" Sabres Story

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matthew Fairburn from The Athletic to discuss his extremely informative and intriguing story that dropped earlier this week involving Terry Pegula, Kevyn Adams and the continuously dysfunctional Buffalo Sabres organization.Fairburn did a deep dive into the Sabres organization, one that has certainly caught the attention of many people including frustrated Sabres fans. For the story Fairburn sat down with the Sabres general manager in addition to speaking to no less than 10 different people involved with or having knowledge of the organization's inner workings. Before discussing the story specifically Patrick asks Matt some questions about the process of putting the piece together, including how long it took to do from start to finish, if he gets a sense for how much attention people like Adams and Pegula pay to media stuff out there, and if it's even worth the bother attempting to ask Pegula to speak on the record for stories anymore. It doesn't take long for the story to take shape, as barely four paragraphs in a gloomy----yet completely accurate portrayal is painted of the franchise. The guys talk about some of the key talking points from Fairburn's work, including Pegula not feeling his vision was being seen before promoting Adams, the (sad) truth about the team's spending habits in relations to the salary cap, many skeptical that Adams got the job to begin with considering he had no real experience at any hockey operational level especially scouting and what the present/future may hold. It's truly some excellent work from Matt and this was an informative chat with one of this market's best writers. You can follow Matt on Twitter at @MatthewFairburn and of course check out his coverage of the Sabres at The Athletic,Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Biggest Bills Surprises Through First Half of 2025

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss a handful of Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including a list of the biggest surprises that’ve happened with the Bills this offseason as training camp’s now just a handful of weeks away. How things play out obviously remains to be seen but one thing’s for certain when it comes to the Bills---it’s been an eventful offseason. The guys talk about some of the more surprising things we’ve seen in depth, including the James Cook contract situation becoming a very public hot topic, not having any real interest in retaining popular receiver Mack Hollins, Brandon Beane signing four significant veterans to long term extensions before free agency even began, the Bills being named as the subject for HBO’s Hard Knocks this summer and Beane taking a big swing on a one-year deal for defensive edge rusher Joey Bosa, who’s already got a calf injury while training. Also, the Bosa injury and other factors could make this a very important season for veteran edge rusher AJ Epenesa. The guys discuss why and if we should realistically expect anything more from Epenesa than we have in the past. That plus is there any chance that a Buffalo return Von Miller could be in the cards and much more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Sneaky Good Buffalo Bills Takes (Plus, Tops Markets Sucks)

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several Buffalo Bills and other topics, including Joe reacting to a handful of what Patrick calls sneaky good Bills takes.Joe missed last week's show because he's a jerk who went on family vacation but he's back this week. After spending a little time catching up, Joe talking about his family trip and Patrick going absolutely over the top in a tirade against a specific Tops Markets location (6150 South Park Avenue in Hamburg), they dive into some Bills talk where Patrick lays down some Bills takes for Joe to react to. Among them is opportunity getting ready to knock for second year running back Ray Davis, why Brandon Beane may look to trade Curtis Samuel for peanuts and Tre White having a real chance to be the Week one starter at cornerback alongside Christian Benford. Also, Josh Allen got married to Hollywood star actress Hailee Steinfeld. The guys have plenty of reaction to that. Plus, Joe has a Mt. Flushmore of the worst celebrity couples, Patrick's got an extended "True or False' segment, reaction to some fan comments and plenty more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Should Bosa Be Treated Like A Lottery Ticket? (The Podbag)

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it’s another edition of The Podbag, chockfull with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including a submission from a listener who says Buffalo Bills edge rusher Joey Bosa should be treated like a lottery ticket with zero expectations. The Bills drafted three defensive lineman with their first four picks and coupled with what they already, they shouldn't have any real expectations for Bosa this season, at least according to the submission. Patrick takes great exception to that, saying the money spent on Bosa automatically makes him someone that should be counted on to have a very good season, and not just the playoffs. Winning your division comes first and foremost and then home field advantage matters too, both things that come as a result of the regular season, which is why Patrick also takes exception to those who say guys like Bosa only need to matter for January. Also, another listener is worried about the defensive line on a whole in part because it appears the Bills are banking on significant contributions from three rookies. Another explains what it will take for the Bills defense to be great this season and adds that Patrick and many others are sleeping on second year safety Cole Bishop. There's more Bills topics and also a few Sabres things as well, including a comical plan on how the Sabres can even get worse next season. That plus an interesting Sean McDermott with a Bills beat reporter and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Grading What (If Anything) Matters From Bills OTA's

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from Buffalo Sports Collective to discuss several Buffalo sports topics, including assigning a grade to some storylines going on this week at Buffalo Bills OTA's.Voluntary, and the word voluntary needs to be emphasized, practices are going on at One Bills Drive this week. While in the grand scheme of things practices in May almost always amount to nothing, there's certainly some storylines worth discussing and that's exactly what Patrick and PK do. Patrick tasks PK with discussing and grading on a scale of 1-10 a handful of topics noticed and reported by the media. Among them are Joey Bosa injuring his calf muscle during a workout last week, James Cook being the lone player absent from OTA's, Keon Coleman reportedly looking bulkier, new wide receiver Elijah Moore flying around and Tre White looking like he never left. Also, PK shares his feelings about the Bills being featured on HBO's Hard Knocks this summer and of course, the Hallmark holiday Christmas movie revolving around the Bills.Of course, PK does an outstanding job co-hosting Buffalo Sports Collective, which gives incredibly comprehensive coverage of the Buffalo Bandits and PK's got plenty of feelings about the Bandits winning a third consecutive NLL championship this past Saturday in front of their home crowd at the Key Bank Center. What Bills Positional Group Gives You Most Concern?

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss several Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including examining what Bills positional group currently feels like the biggest cause for concern going into the 2025 season. On the whole, the Bills appear to be loaded. That's evidenced by Buffalo being the only team in the league to be favored in every game this season as things stand. That doesn't mean the team is without flaws and concerns. The guys examine which positional group is currently giving them the most reason for concern as they get ready for training camp in July.Plus in news that broke shortly before the taping of this show, Bills defensive end Joey Bosa has a calf injury already. The guys react to that. Staying with the Bills, Matt also has thoughts on who, if either should be extended first between Connor McGovern and James Cook. Also, what does Matt think of Buffalo being selected to be on HBO's Hard Knocks this summer.Moving over to NFL talk, the guys take a stab at what team(s) could be in line to win their division this season that didn't last year. That plus thoughts on the tush push and playoff seeding staying intact and much more. Sabres, Bills & Bandits Talk (Featuring Joe Yerdon)

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by ole' friend and recurring guest Joe Yerdon for a conversation focused primarily on the Buffalo Sabres but also plenty of Bandits and Bills talk as well. It's been a hot minute since Joe's last been on the show, November 22 of last year to be exact so the guys spend some time catching up. Patrick hit up one of Joe's favorite bars in downtown Buffalo this past weekend while Joe's put some miles on his car driving to Toronto and Rochester to cover playoff hockey, seeing of course the Sabres yet again missed the postseason. Speaking of, Patrick asks Joe if this season was frustrating as a journalist because while the people covering teams have no horse in the race, it certainly makes for a more hostile and frustrating environment when the team you deal with on a daily basis consistently loses the Sabres have---for the past 14 years.Joe talks about Sabres star forward Tage Thompson shining for the United States at the World's in Sweden. He also talks about squashing rumors that Buffalo defensemen Bo Byram has requested a trade from the Sabres, and also shares what he thinks the Sabres vision may be for this offseason. They also spend some time talking about the Bills getting set to appear on HBO's Hard Knocks this summer and the Buffalo Bandits winning a championship for the third consecutive year. Special Holiday Weekend For Buffalo Sports

E

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is highlighting two amazing things to happen for Buffalo sports over the Memorial holiday weekend both from team and individual perspectives--the Buffalo Bandits winning their third straight NLL championship and Tage Thompson playing hero for the United States in the World's Championship.Excitement was in the air last Saturday in Buffalo and especially at the Key Bank Center and the Bandits certainly didn't disappoint. They turned a close game into a second half route and extended party in defeating Saskatchewan, 15-6 to win a historic third consecutive NLL title and seventh in the history of the franchise. Patrick goes over several personal feelings on the accomplishment, how happy he is for the true Bandits fans, how it's sad they're not covered with the consistency they deserve and a Buffalo Bills comparison to what Saturday's championship win felt like.Meanwhile, Thompson scored in overtime on Sunday to give the United States a dramatic 1-0 win over Switzerland in the gold medal game at the World's Championships in Sweden and give the United States their first gold medal in 92 years. Patrick talks about Tage getting all the love from the hockey world he richly deserves, which of course leads to a bashing of the Sabres and that we don't get see Tage shine in games that actually are meaningful more often. Also, a pair of clips are played from last week's show and discussed. One of them is how the humanization of Sean McDermott in recent years has Patrick emotionally invested in wanting to see McDermott win a Super Bowl, and also a clip of Keon Coleman/Dalton Kincaid being discussed as the biggest keys to a historically good Bills offense remaining sustainable in 2025. That and more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium.
