Buffalo dominated in all three phases of a game that was almost never in doubt. Dom traveled and covered the game for Channel 7 and got a birds eye view of the action and together the guys go over several of the game and team's biggest takeaways.Among them is Joey Bosa looking like an absolute free agent bargain for the team through its first two games. Buffalo raced off to a 20-0 lead and were never closed to be threatened. The guys talk about how it wasn't surprising the favored Bills but won but in the one sided way they did so.James Cook ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns to pace the offense, including a 44-yard scoring run that was the best offensive highlight of the day. On the other side Joey Bosa led a well balanced defensive effort with a sack and a forced fumble for the second consecutive week. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is previewing the Buffalo Bills Week two matchup in New Jersey against the New York Jets, including his three keys to a Buffalo victory, bold predictions and a final score pick for the game.The season couldn't have started out any more exciting (and stressful) for the Bills and their fans as they historically erased a 15 point deficit late to defeat the Baltimore Ravens, 41-40 on a Matt Prater game-winning field goal as the clock expired and came within an inch or two of being blocked. Josh Allen won AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance, Ed Oliver should've won on the other side of the ball as well, and it sets up Buffalo excellently by defeating a team that should be near the top of the conference standings at the end of the regular season.Naturally, the guard needs to be up against a letdown in this week's road matchup against the Jets. New York lost their opener to Pittsburgh but played incredibly competitive in the debut of new head coach Aaron Glenn. There's a lot to like about the Jets and especially their ability to run an offense similar to the successful offense Baltimore ran against Buffalo this past week. Patrick talks about some of the Jets standouts from Week one on offense led by quarterback Justin Fields, who looks revitalized with the Jets.On the Bills side, the win over Baltimore was great but they have to be better, a lot better on defense than they were for the first three quarters plus in their opener. Patrick says that while not trying to sound like a homer, the rust and lack of reps during the preseason for the unit could've been a factor in the ugly early start--not as much as going against the likes of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry among others, but certainly a factor.Patrick also lays out his three keys to the Bills getting their second straight win as well as five bold predictions for the game (few of them juicy too!) and ultimately a final score prediction. He also now has three career games with at least 250 passing yards, at least two passing scores and two rushing scores, the most in NFL history. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over his biggest takeaways----the good, bad and ugly from the Buffalo Bills following their remarkable come from behind victory over the Baltimore Ravens to kick off the regular season in spectacular fashion at Highmark Stadium this past Sunday night.Quite literally per ESPN analytics the Ravens had a 99.1% of winning the game with just 4:18 left in the fourth quarter. While several fans bolted for their cars to beat late night traffic someone forget to tell the Bills the game was over. They capped off a 22-6 fourth quarter with a game-winning field goal drive as time expired. Patrick goes over several things he liked most from the team after watching the game back on film, starting of course with Josh Allen, who immediately reverted back to last year's MVP form when the team absolutely needed to have it. Patrick also considers Sunday quite possibly the best game of Ed Oliver's career as well as the coming out party for second-year wide receiver among several other things discussed.However it's not all roses for the Bills despite the victory and there's a lot to work on. Patrick talks about the horrible play from the safety position, some awful two point conversion chasing by the team, sketchy coordinating from Joe Brady, a newly extended defender continuing to not be very impressive to Patrick and a defensive tackle who looks very close to the end. It's another edition of The Podbag on today's Talking Buffalo, the episode where the listeners control the topics with their questions, comments and takes submitted. Patrick Moran's responding to them, including one that leads to a nice discussion about whether Buffalo Bills fans (and perhaps the media) are acting a little too stressed over what's looking a very shaky Bills safety room.It's no secret Buffalo is struggling with both health and on-field play when it comes to the safety position, it's been obvious since the beginning of training camp last summer and you can argue last season as well. Taylor Rapp's pretty effectively but banged up a lot. Cole Bishop is a second-round pick last year but has battled injury and shaky play that makes head coach Sean McDermott sound less than confident in him. Damar Hamlin is athletically limited and at times a liability despite his amazing story and offseason free agent signee Darrick Forrest never got any momentum going. Only fifth-round rookie Jordan Hancock, who got banged up last week is inspiring any real optimism is not confidence recently.However, a comment from a listener leads to a suggestion and discussion that we're spending too much time on that position and not enough on other factors who can help the safeties. That includes a pass rush that should be improved with Joey Bosa and three rookie defensive lineman that were among the first four picks as well as Terrell Bernard and Matt Milano both healthy behind them. In fact, Bills defensive coordinator said this week that Milano has been arguably as good as any Bill on either side of the ball this summer. Long story short--the better the defense is in front of the safeties the less play that's no better than average will matter.Also, a listener doesn't think either Tyrell Shavers or Elijah Moore is making this team and another points out an element that should keep the Bills offense near the top of the league's best. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over all his biggest takeaways both good and (mostly) bad after watching the film back from the Buffalo Bills blowout loss to Chicago against the Bears, 38-0 on Sunday night.If you care about the outcome and score of the game which spoiler alert, you shouldn't then you're probably in panic mode as the Bills suffered their most lopsided preseason loss in three and a half decades. However, even if the outcome and score of the game doesn't matter some things you see from the players during it absolutely do, at least sometimes and Patrick, like probably most of you found plenty to note like. It was bad in real time and even worse on several occasions during All 22 film study and Patrick hits on a lot of it, including a completely miserable day for popular reserve inside linebacker Joe Andreessen, who continues to looks positively loss in pass coverage for a second straight week.While Andreessen's performance was discouraging, it pales in comparison to what we've continued to see from what's unmistakably the biggest concern on this team right now, the safety position. Cole Bishop returned for 12 snaps on Sunday and a few of them were a disaster. Damar Hamlin fared no better, alarming considering one of them are going to end up starting against Baltimore in a few weeks.It was also a pretty terrible game for Dane Jackson, Elijah Moore and Mike White--all of whom could've possibly played themselves out of a job.Conversely there were a few bright spots, including rookie safety Jordan Hancock and another nice flash from fellow rookie defensive tackles Deone Walker. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for some instant live reactions immediately after the conclusion of the Buffalo Bills preseason game at the Chicago Bears that saw the Bills down four touchdowns before they hit the locker room for halftime and ultimately lose, 38-0. If it wasn't obvious already, the Buffalo Bills officially have a safety problem. Preseason or not it's still football and even in the most simplistic of ways, both Cole Bishop and Damar Hamlin looked positively dreadful in Chicago, which sets Patrick off on a series of rants. Whether it's rookie Jordan Hancock or Brandon Beane looking outside the organization for help it's obvious to Patrick the team needs help beyond Taylor Rapp, who has issues staying healthy himself.Now granted, not a Bills regular starter player in this game other than Bishop and it's a preseason game and one it clearly looked Chicago game planned a lot more than Buffalo for but make not mistake about it---a lot of the depth guys looked horrendous. Despite Joe not caring at all Patrick talks about the struggles of "Buffalo" Joe Andreessen and Dane Jackson among several others. Also, where were the Bills rookie defensive lineman in this game? It's another edition of The Podbag on this episode of Talking Buffalo, as Patrick Moran is answering questions, comments and takes submitted from listeners about a variety of topics, including finding some silver lining in the rash of annoying but fortunately not severe injuries to Buffalo Bills players throughout this training camp.Injuries have been a problem for the Bills since camp started, although it appears as Max Hairston's knee injury is the only one right now that seems destined to leak into the regular season. Still, it's been an annoyance of sorts especially at some positions, particularly wide receiver and pass catchers in general. Curtis Samuel, Tyrell Shavers, Elijah Moore, KJ Halmer, Josh Palmer and Dawson Knox have missed time, some more than others. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a bunch of observations from Buffalo Bills training camp including what's indisputably become the biggest tory of camp---injuries seriously taking a toll on the roster and the James Cook saga taking an unexpected turn.Injuries have been an issue for the Bills literally since the beginning of camp and they continue to be. The latest injury is star wide receiver Khalil Shakir, who got his ankle rolled up on during a run play at the Blue and Red scrimmage at Highmark Stadium this past Friday. The result was a high ankle sprain and head coach Sean McDermott is calling it a week to week injury, with speculation forming that it could take him right up against the start of the regular season in a little more than a month. Add Shakir to the list of notable names who've already missed or are missing valuable camp time now, a list that includes Terrell Bernard, Dawson Knox, Spencer Brown, Curtis Samuel, Cole Bishop, Taylor Rapp, Elijah Moore, Max Hairston and several others.On the Cook front, the running back showed up but didn't participate at all during practice Sunday, referring to the term "business" as a reply to every question asked why he missed and if he was "holding in" after. Patrick discusses if he thinks this may be a cautionary move by Cook because the sides may actually be closer to a deal, or if Cook is frustrated after showing up and participating in what he perceives as good faith but the sides not being close to a deal at all. Either way it's not ideal for the Bills, not to mention now very likely a large focus point with HBO's Hard Knocks debuting on Tuesday night.Patrick also has several observations as the Bills head into their final week at St. John Fisher. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, first-round rookie Max Hairston's knee injury is rightfully dominating the headlines from Buffalo Bills training camp practice from Tuesday, but Patrick Moran has a first-hand account of several other things he saw during the team's fifth overall session of camp and second consecutive day with the pads on.As of this recording we don't the extent of Hairston's injury, but everything indicates that is was serious. Patrick talks about seeing Hairston do a drill just minutes before the injury and it's one that not only likely seals Tre White as the starter alongside Christian Benford for the 2025 season, but probably pushes another returning veteran, Dane Jackson up the cornerback depth chart as well. It's been a brutal summer already with the amount of Bills missing time with injuries and it continued beyond just Hairston on Tuesday. Safety Cole Bishop left with trainers at one point though he did return to the field but didn't participate in anymore drills. Also, Ty Johnson appeared to roll his ankle after being hit well out of bounds by linebacker Joe Andreessen.Beyond Max and the injuries though there were several other things Patrick observed and wanted to discuss. Among them is big ticket defensive end Joey Bosa having far and away his most productive camp practice as a Bill. It was also a day the defense for the most part dominated, including interceptions in 11-on-11's by Matt Milano and Daquen Hardy. However, Patrick describes two offensive plays that excited the crowd, led by a pair of unheralded receivers who are desperately trying to make an impact--they did on Tuesday.Also, Patrick was impressed Tuesday by one rookie (Jordan Hancock) but not with another (Dorian Strong). On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has several observations after taking in Buffalo Bills training camp practice again on Monday, including feel confident enough that it's OK to raise back up the expectations of linebacker Matt Milano to the level they were a few years ago.To say it was hot and steamy at St. John Fisher on Tuesday for practice was an understatement. In fact, Patrick admits to barely making it through practice before bailing for some shade, of which there was zero of all morning long. But he persevered and stuck around for all of practice, the first with pads on of the summer and he's got several takeaways from it. At the top is the play of Milano, who's had a really (really) strong camp and right now looks very much like the former All-Pro he was a few years ago before the injury. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's a combination of Patrick Moran's biggest takeaways through the first few days of Buffalo Bills training camp as well as a handful of submissions from The Podbag --- listener submitted questions and takes.The top players from Buffalo's 2024 draft class, Keon Coleman and Cole Bishop have unsurprisingly been in the spotlight. After a pretty rough first day of camp where star cornerback Christian Benford was mostly locking Coleman down, the receiver responded with a standout day two in making multiple catches all over the field with crispier route running and sure hands. It was enough to get the media talking positively about him and Patrick has plenty of reaction. On this episode of Talking Buffalo the NFL offseason is now over, Buffalo Bills training camp is officially back and Patrick Moran goes over a handful of interesting things we've learned about the Bills after just day one of training camp.For a football fan and specifically a Bills fan there isn't many things that feel better than training camp being underway at St. John's Fisher in Rochester. While the pads aren't on yet, the Bills had their first of what'll be 12 practices in Rochester away from home and there's plenty to digest already both on and off the field.Before practice began Sean McDermott met with the media and among the items discussed were four players not ready to begin practicing for camp, including Dawson Knox and Spencer Brown. Patrick has thoughts on Sean describing Brown's back as a flare up and concluding it would be naive to at least not be somewhat concerned about it, considering Brown's back surgery was three years ago.Also, Tre White and Cole Bishop got the start in the Bills secondary in initial team drills work. Should either be surprising? Probably not. What may be a bit surprising is rookie Jordan Hancock spending practice at slot corner instead of safety, at least it is to Patrick as he describes. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News to discuss the Buffalo Bills, Sabres and why he's now covering the Bills instead of the Sabres at The Buffalo News.Lance originally came to The Buffalo News to cover the Sabres in the fall of 2018. Even back then he came to Buffalo making a big switch, as he covered the Pittsburgh Pirates and MLB previously. Now he's doing it again as after covering the Sabres for the past seven seasons he's switching not only teams, but sports again as he'll be a reporter covering the Bills. Lance gives us the details in what went behind the decision, what makes him happy about it and what will be some of the biggest challenges. He also discusses what it was like covering a team in the Sabres that lost and failed to make the playoffs for his entire duration there (and seven years before that as well) and how that could be frustrating, not necessarily as a sports journalist but having to deal with players constantly tired and a fan base that's become largely negative towards anything and everything Sabres for----well obvious reasons.They also have a discussion about both the Bills and Sabres, ranging from storylines he's looking forward to seeing unfold and cover in training camp (starting next week) to if he thinks the Sabres have any realistic chance of ending their playoff drought based on what this offseason has brought for them so far. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss a variety of topics, including Patrick trying to build the perfect 53-man all-time roster that includes several factors and Joe objecting to a handful of the choices.Based on fit and in at a handful of cases, the ability to play special teams all weighed heavily at times into some of Patrick's decision on what would be his perfect Bills all-time roster. Some of the players and positions leave room for debate, but there's a handful of guys Joe objects to being on in favor of others who he considered snubbed, a list that includes James Lofton, Thomas Smith and Jerry Hughes. Also, Joe doesn't think Jim Kelly should be on the roster and after giving his reasoning, it actually makes a lot of sense. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective to discuss a handful of Buffalo Bills and Sabres topics, including paying homage to a Bills offensive line that has been insanely underrated over the past two seasons.Josh Allen has become one of and arguably the best quarterback if not player in the entire NFL. The reigning NFL MVP has a skill set and penchant for making memorable plays you don't see often. While his style of play and athletic traits make him a unicorn of sorts, there's other reasons why Allen has been able to enjoy the sustainable success he's had in recent years and one of the biggest is the play of his offensive line. The unit has been stellar, consistent and perhaps most importantly, healthy for the past few seasons. The guys discuss how Dion Dawkins, O'Cyrus Torrence, Connor McGovern, David Edwards, Spencer Brown and Alec Anderson continue to pave the way for Allen to shine.That said, let's not take away too much from Allen, as the guys discuss some of the things that make him a special player and in at least some ways, kind of fly under the radar with Buffalo sports talk.Unfortunately things don't seem to be looking up on the Sabres side and the guys talk about that too, including what certainly appears to be a lack or urgency from the organization to put an end fo a miserable and historic 14-year playoff drought.
