Buffalo Sabres 2025-26 Preview & Predictions (Featuring Mike Harrington)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a full Buffalo Sabres 2025-26 season preview that features longtime Buffalo News Sabres reporter and columnist Mike Harrington. It certainly sounds like a broken record saying this as the Sabres have been in a playoff drought for the past 14 years, but this wholeheartedly feels like a make-or-break season for the foundation of this current era of Sabres hockey. Both general manager Kevyn Adams and head coach Lindy Ruff are in the final year of their deals and it's prudent that this team finally finds a postseason that's alluded them since a lot of younger fans have even started following Sabres hockey. Harrington sheds plenty to what's at stake both on and off the ice this time around and has opinions on the shape of a roster that many think had an uneventful summer of roster personnel moves.Harrington also discusses why an Alex Tuch extension hasn't been reached as of this recording and what that could mean going into this regular season. Also, how much can we rely on Josh Norris staying healthy? The Sabres certainly are. Also, is Zach Benson ready for an increased role? Can Alex Lyon hold things down in net until UPL is back and possibly beyond? How much grace is Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin ready to give management if things once again go south this season?Plus, Mike talks about the addition of Rachel Lenzi to the Sabres coverage team alongside him at The Buffalo News, a little Bills talk and plenty more. Follow Mike Harrington on Twitter @ByMHarringtonand of course support local journalism, which needs your support now more than ever by subscribing to The Buffalo News. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Week Five Positional Analysis & Grades, Plus Looking Towards Atlanta
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation for his weekly appearance to discuss the Buffalo Bills positionally and evaluate them with grades based on their performance in their Week five loss to the New England Patriots.Buffalo suffered their first loss of the season this past Sunday and it was a home loss in prime time to a divisional rival to make matters worse. How do the guys the guys think Buffalo's feeling a few days later? They discuss that and then get into their weekly breakdown of how the team looked position by position. It's definitely a far cry from most weeks when nearly every position on the team has received honor roll worthy grades. How much does Josh Allen get dinged for some mistakes---some that show up in the box score and some that don't?Defensively things get dicey to evaluate and grade because on one hand they kept Buffalo in the game through the first half when the offense totally sputtered. However, as the offense got going after halftime the defense started to struggle like it has a lot of the season. How big is the Bills secondary problem and is Tre White receiving TOO much blame? They also take a look at Buffalo's next opponent, Atlanta, their last before a bye week that could prove useful. That plus a look around the league in a week that saw both Baltimore and Kansas City lose again and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Biggest Post Film Week Five Takeaways (Oof)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over all of his biggest takeaways after watching the film back from the Buffalo Bills first loss of the season, 23-20 against the New England Patriots Sunday night at Highmark Stadium. On a night where the defense gave up plays but still did enough to win, it was the offense that was uncharacteristically mistake prone and a big reason the Bills suffered their first loss. Three turnovers and numerous physical and mental gaffes handcuffed them most the night and Patrick goes over a lot of what he saw, including pointing out a handful of Josh Allen mistakes he doesn't typically make. Also, Khalil Shakir is one of the most sound players on the team but had a few costly errors himself. On the defensive side of the ball, the secondary is officially a mess. Tre White needs to be replaced and it doesn't take film to arrive to that conclusion. However, Patrick points out numerous incidents of poor safety play and particularly from Taylor Rapp, who's been a borderline eye sore for the defense this seasons. Also, are Christian Benford and Taron Johnson regressing this season They certainly didn't look good Sunday night.Patrick also talks about how the Bills coordinating, coaching and overall preparation did them no favors as they looked flat early on and often disorganized not to mention highly undisciplined. That plus full props to Stefon Diggs and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Own Worst Enemy In First Loss (Instant Live Reactions)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for instant live reaction just moments after the conclusions of the Buffalo Bills losing their first game of the season, 23-20 to the New England Patriots at Highmark Stadium under the lights of Sunday night football. To say it was an uncharacteristic loss for the Bills was an understatement, particularly on offense. Josh Allen accounted for over 300 yards and two touchdowns but the offense committed three turnovers, two lost fumbles by non-running backs and a very bad interception from Allen in the third quarter that ultimately proved costly. They also only averaged 4.1 yards rushing and James Cook was bottled up for just 49 yards on 15 carries. The defense was good and kept the Bills in the game all night for sure but weren't without flaws themselves, particularly a secondary that allowed Stefon Diggs to absolutely cook them to the tune of 10 catches for 146 yards. They sacked Drake Maye four times but Daquan Jones couldn't pull him down on what proved to be a crucial play to help the Patriots win.The guys have a ton of takes in real time just minutes after to discuss all the good, bad and ugly from this annoying but frankly, kind of overdue first Buffalo loss.Additionally, Joe has his weekly Mt. Flushmore, this time highlighting/lowlighting the worst prime time moments in Highmark Stadium history. That and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills vs Patriots Week Five Preview & Bold Predictions
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran previews the exciting Sunday night football Week five matchup between the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots at Highmark Stadium in addition to his three keys to a Bills victory, five game bold predictions and a stab at nailing the final score.Buffalo is the last remaining undefeated team in the AFC and just one of two left in the league. They should expect a stiff test from a 2-2 Patriots team with plenty to prove and is excited for the opportunity to come to Orchard Park and knock off the powerhouse Bills. They better because if the Bills win this game the AFC east will be all but locked up before we hit Columbus Day.Patrick takes a look at the strengths and weakness of both teams coming in and a potential good vs good matchup as the Bills running game is the best in football while New England's one of the best at stopping in. He then outlines three big keys to a Bills victory including being able to shut down New England's reigning AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, who decimated Carolina last week on punt returns. As always, Patrick offers five bold predictions for the game and one of them has Ty Johnson, who's done basically nothing for the Buffalo offense this season finding his way to the end. Before leaving Patrick gives his final score prediction. Will the Bills cover the 7.5 spread? That and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! What's Up With Greg Rousseau? (Plus, Sabres Preseason Home Finale)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by broadcaster Steve Bermel to talk both Buffalo Bills and Sabres, including discussing why defensive edge Greg Rousseau's not making any impact for the Bills early in addition to how the Sabres are looking just one week before the NHL season begins.Prefacing as usual by saying it feels kinda lame to overly criticize and nitpick the Bills when they're 4-0 and already the last remaining unbeaten team in their conference, there's still plenty of room for improvement and particularly on the defense side of the ball. Perhaps that starts with Rousseau, who signed a four-year, $80 million extension this offseason but has been almost eerily quiet on the stat sheet through his first four games, picking up just eight tackles with 0.5 sacks and zero tackles for a loss. Watching the tape it doesn't show that Groot's necessarily playing "bad" perse, but he's certainly not having the impact everyone expected him to give out there so far. Also three key Bills veterans were limited practice participants on Wednesday after missing last Sunday's win over New Orleans. Matt Milano, Ed Oliver and Spencer Brown were all on the field and the discuss what they saw from limited clips and a sense of how they think things will play out this week.On the hockey side, Buffalo hosted Pittsburgh in their final home preseason tilt just before the recording of this podcast. The guys discuss what they saw from the game, what they've seen from the team recently, how much if at all are they concerned about a few injuries and plenty more.Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Buffalo Bills Week Four Grades, Plus A Look Towards The Patriots
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation for their weekly chat about several topics, including their analysis and grades positionally for the Buffalo Bills from their Week four win over New Orleans as well as their next opponent, a prime time divisional matchup against New England. It felt like a mixed bag of performances for the Bills this past Sunday against a Saints team many thought Buffalo would completely roll over. That didn't happen and resulted in plenty of criticisms from fans, content and creators and the media over the past few days. How much of that does Matt agree with? Will he be generous with the grades at some hot topic positions like defensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback and heck----the entire defense? Plus, what did he think of the coaching game plan and play calling execution? They then take a look at a New England Patriots team that is 2-2 on the season and in Patrick's opinion anyway is clearly the second-best team in the division and the biggest "threat" to the Bills. It could be interesting come Sunday night, as Buffalo's potent rushing attack will face a New England defense that's been one of the best run defenses in the league through the first month of the season. That plus are the Ravens in big trouble, are the Chiefs all the way back, will the Bengals be able to hold on until late in the regular season when Joe Burrow returns and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Post Film Biggest Takeaways From Week Four Win
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over several of his biggest takeaways after spending time watching back the film from the Buffalo Bills 31-19 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at Highmark Stadium to earn their fourth consecutive win to start the season. It was a mixed bag for the Bills on Sunday as it usually is, plenty of good things to highlight as well as bad to criticize but of course it's always most important to remember that winning in the NFL is never easy and the Bills have now done so four times without a loss and in doing so are the only remaining undefeated team in the AFC.This episode's always a favorite for Patrick because unlike the immediate instant live reaction shows that follow games, there's an opportunity to sleep on some thoughts to remove some instant emotion and more importantly spend hours the next day going through the film and seeing what your gut instinct was right and wrong about. A few things Patrick immediately acknowledges and discusses that differ from the live postgame show is not giving enough credit to Cole Bishop for his interception near the end of the first half and being far too critical initially on right tackle Ryan Van Demark and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones. Not a lot of time is spent talking about the offense because they were their usual stellar self, but the defense and in particular the run defense remains ghastly. Patrick points out several instances from the film that between missed tackles, being out of position and just not winning their reps was at times hard to watch.Speaking of, Patrick saves his biggest criticism for linebacker Dorian Williams, who had perhaps the worst game of his career. That's discussed and plenty more including how Curtis Samuel's return effected the offense and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Make Things Hard Versus Big Easy (Live Reactions)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for plenty of live reaction not long after the Buffalo Bills had way more ugly moments than desired but still beat the New Orleans Saints, 31-19 to remain undefeated through four weeks. There's plenty of things to conversate about both good and bad. Patrick and Joe don't usually agree on much but one thing feels universally apparent about a month into the season---the offense scoring 30+ points per game and the defense playing pretty bad feel equally sustainable. Add them up and it's making for what should be an absolute roller coaster of the season.Of course the ultimate factor is always the scoreboard. The Bills are 4--0 and did more than enough to win. The guys talk about how James Cook continues to emerge into not just a good player, but a superstar in this league. Cook ran for 117 yards and a touchdown and has run for over 100 yards in three straight weeks.Josh Allen obviously had a good game and Khalil Shakir did damage on offense, while rookie Deone Walker continued to impress on defense. It wasn't all pretty and the guys run down several players who were not good---including Dorian Williams, Tre White (who got benched for parts of the day) and Taylor Rapp.Again though, all that matters is the Bills are undefeated heading into Week five against New England in prime time. That and plenty more including Joe's Mt. Flushmore. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills vs Saints Preview & Bold Predictions
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a preview of the Buffalo Bills week four tilt against the New Orleans Saints at Highmark Stadium this coming Sunday, including keys to the game for Buffalo, five bold predictions and a stab at the final score. The Saints have won four straight in Orchard Park and haven't lost to the Bills on the road since 1983. Spoiler alert--that's highly likely to change. Buffalo comes into this game at least 15.5 point favorites and a little more on other betting sites for good reasons. The Bills are undefeated and one of if not the most complete team in the NFL whereas New Orleans comes stumbling in winless, with a "shaky" quarterback situation and no real team identity.Patrick spends some time catching Buffalo fans up to the Saints, the good, bad (plenty) and ugly (also plenty). That said, this is the NFL and anything can happen and Patrick runs down three keys for the Bills ensuring they stay undefeated heading into a prime time divisional home game matchup against New England the following week.Five bold predictions for the games are also offered, including an old veteran getting an interception, a breakout game for a defender who should've already had one by now and a good game ins tore for a depth skilled position player. That plus we all know Patrick's not picking against the Bills when they're playing the Saints---but does he like Buffalo to cover the spread? That and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! You can purchase t shirts, hoodies, zip ups, crewnecks and polos in a couple of different styles and colors. Lowkey Components Of The Bills Hot Start (Sabres Hot Early Too)
EOn today's Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by broadcaster Steve Bermel to talk plenty of Buffalo Bills and a little Buffalo Sabres too, including discussing a few factors a bit under the radar that've helped allow the Bills to get off to another great start. You couldn't have written the script much better for the Bills to start the season, beginning with a perfect 3-0 record that includes a huge win over Baltimore that could prove valuable come on the end of the regular season. They''ve done it by scoring at least 30 points in all three games while continuing to get key takeaways on defense that helps make up for the unit being so leaky. The guys discuss three factors on why this team remains so good, from an offensive line that never does and probably never will get the league-wide credit it deserves, an unselfish team-first attitude that starts with the MVP quarterback and the "Everybody Eats' mantra living on so they don't live in fear of a No. 1 wide receiver going down that could wreck their offense. They also spend some time talking about the Bills complex injury situation. Ed Oliver and Matt Milano continue to make progress per Sean McDermott, but does Sean hold them out even if they're near 100% seeing that they're playing the Saints at home on Sunday? How about Spencer Brown, who didn't practice on Wednesday with a calf injury. They also talk about the latest news, potentially significant concerning first round pick Max Hairston's ongoing recovery from his training camp knee injury.Across town, the Sabres have won their first two preseason games and meaningless or not, they've looked pretty good in doing so twice against Columbus. The guys talk about a few things they've liked very early on from Buffalo in training camp and the preseason and go over a few things they're hoping to see as they go into the regular season soon and try to end their 14-year drought. That and much more.Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Positional Grades & Analysis, Plus A Look At The Saints
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren (SB Nation) to go over the Buffalo Bills positionally and assign a grade from their Week three performance last week against Miami before taking a look at Buffalo's next opponent, winless New Orleans. As they're doing throughout the season, Matt and Patrick are converging to analyze the Bills position-by-position and come up with a letter grade for how each group looked the game before. This week's a little "overdue" because the Bills played last Thursday, but there's still plenty of interesting talking points to hit on with this game. How do you grade Josh Allen on a night where he threw for three touchdowns without a turnover but wasn't necessarily at his best? How about the cornerbacks, who looked strong against the run but gave up some plays in the passing game? Did the Bills prepare well for Miami or did they get a bit lucky? The guys go over all. Also, it's hard to fathom the Bills not beating New Orleans this Sunday no matter how hard you try, but the guys take a look at the Saints and come up with a few things that Buffalo could get hurt by if not careful. They also take a look around the league at some of the bigger happenings from the rest of Week three and talk about a pivotal Week four matchup between Baltimore and Kansas City plus much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Why We Should Care The Sabres Are Back (Plus, Bills Talk)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by blogger and podcaster Chris Ostrander to talk Buffalo Bills and Sabres topics, including why we should even care that the Sabres are back in action with four preseason games slated for this week. It's not easy to get those who aren't already diehard Sabres fans to care a great deal that training camp and the preseason has commenced, especially considering how bad they've been for so long and not having the most eventful summer of transactions, not to mention it's still September and the Bills are off to a fantastic start. But there's definitely reasons that all Sabres fans should care, even if they're currently disenfranchised with the current product. As the guys talk about for starters, there's an awful lot at stake for this organization, none so more than the danger that a 15th straight season of no playoffs could result in the fans that've been hanging on by a thread with supporting the team finally saying that's enough and letting go. Even if they dont, as Chris explains another bad season almost certainly means the organization will start over yet again, with a new coach and a new general manager, which almost always leads to huge roster turnover as well. Could another terrible season force guys like Rasmus Dahlin, Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch to want out? Heck, in Tuch's case is all this a reason he hasn't signed an extension already?Moving to the football side things couldn't have started better for the Bills as they're 3-0 and already have a commanding lead in the AFC east. Their sixth straight division title already looks like a formality but the guys talk about that hardly being the goal. The Bills have to be considered the favorites right now to end up the top seed in the AFC---the guys go through the rest of their schedule and conclude it's not really that daunting to finish as a team that wins at least 13-14 games. That plus a chat on if the media, content creators and fans are unfairly critical of a team that's undefeated to start the season and much more. What We're Learning About The 3-0 Buffalo Bills
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several Buffalo Bills and other topics, including a look at some of things being learned by the Bills in the midst of their 3-0 start to the season.Among them is the early conclusion that the 2025 Buffalo Bills look and feel an awful lot like the 2024 Buffalo Bills, which considering they were a few executed plays away from reaching the Super Bowl is a good thing. The offense is being spearheaded of course by Josh Allen, who just continues to take his game both physically and mentally to another level. Meanwhile James Cook has been excellent as has the offensive line. The other side of the ball has been far more nuanced, which again much like last year has struggled to get off the field on third downs in two of their three games but have successfully (through this point anyway) relied on key takeaways to strongly influence the outcome of games. They also discuss why the additions of Michael Hoehct and Larry Ogunjobi will be very much welcomed, in part because Buffalo is getting very little from their edge rushers not named Joey Bosa and defensive tackles not named Ed Oliver.Patrick also reads off several listener submitted questions and takes for the guys to discuss plus much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Biggest Week Three Takeaways (Weekend Bonus Episode)
EOn this bonus weekend episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over his biggest takeaways after watching the game back on film from the Buffalo Bills 31-21 Week three victory over the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium on Thursday night football.Sticking with the usual format for the season, Patrick drops all his big takeaways after pouring over the stats, watching back some of the film and perhaps most importantly, sleeping on it to have new perspective the next day as opposed to the instant live reaction shows that immediately follow the game.Obviously there's plenty to like and Patrick points out a lot of things including Josh Allen's ability to not turn the ball over almost being taken for granted, James Cook continuing to emerge as a star, the offensive line shining yet again and a defense that stunk for a lot of the game but as they usually do, turn up when they absolutely need to and get a game-impacting takeaway.3-0 is nice and clearly that's what matters most, but it's not all love from Patrick with what he saw Thursday night. He talks about a defense that couldn't get off the field on third down, a defensive line that minus rookie Deone Walker was almost a complete no show, a wide receiving group that's not getting any long plays down the field and perhaps some unrealistic expectations fans and media have on the team that'll make a 10 point victory over a division rival feel less than stellar. That and plenty more today---happy weekend! The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Survive Dolphins (Week 3 Instant Live Reactions)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for plenty of instant live reaction just moments following the conclusion of the Buffalo Bills defeating the Miami Dolphins, 31-21 to win their third straight game to start the season. It wasn't pretty by any means, especially on defense but the Bills continue to find a way. The guys go over James Cook again pacing the offense in the running game while Josh Allen threw for three more touchdowns and still doesn't have an interception on the season. Speaking of picks, Tua's late in the fourth quarter to Terrel Bernard proved to be the pivotal point of the game. The guys discuss how Tua's lone real mistake and a horrible roughing the punter penalty by Miami's best interior defensive lineman helped seal their doom on a night they gave Buffalo plenty to worry about. While there's plenty to like including Buffalo winning the turnover battle for a NFL all-time record 25th consecutive time, there's also things to worry about and some are discussed--including an anemic defensive line pass rush and the inability to get the passing game going down the field.Additionally, Joe also has a Mt. Flushmore featuring his worst Bills memories of the entire Buffalo vs Miami rivlalry. That and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Matt Parrino & Marcel Louis-Jacques Talk Bills vs Miami (LIVE From Sonny Red's)
EOn this special episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by former Buffalo Bills and current ESPN Miami Dolphins beat reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques and Bills beat reporter Matt Parrino to preview Bills vs Miami, talk sports, media and much more in a conversation recorded live at Sonny Red's in Lackawanna.Louis-Jacques covered the Bills (wonderfully) for two seasons in 2019-20 and in the process became one of the area's most well liked reporters before leaving for ESPN to cover the Dolphins in September 2021. He's back in town to cover the Thursday night game. He joins Parrino, one of the area's most established reporters and multimedia personalities to cover components from this Week three matchup from both perspectives. The Bills are expected to run through the Dolphins, who are 0-2 and appear to be an absolute mess both on and off the field. Buffalo is favored by 12.5 points--an astronomical number considering how early it is in the season, that it's a divisional matchup and that they'll be playing without two defensive stalwarts in Ed Oliver and Milano. But games are won on the field as opposed to paper and this is the NFL where anything can happen--the guys talk about what Buffalo and Miami need to do respectively to pull out a victory. Patrick also goes over his weekly bold predictions for the game and drags Marcel and Matt into making a few of their own. They also spend some time talking how life's been in Miami for Marcel over the past few years, a few sports media topics and much more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattParrino and of course be sure to check out his work at NYup.com as well as subscribe to the Shout Buffalo Football Podcast. Bills Positional Week Two Grades, Plus Looking Forward To Miami
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to go through the Buffalo Bills week two grades, positionally following their lopsided win over the New York Jets in addition to discussing other team matters, taking a look at the Miami Dolphins and discussing some things going on around the league. The Bills are now a few days removed from easily putting away the Jets on the road this past Sunday, 30-10. As they did last week and will for the duration of the season, Patrick and Matt go through the Bills roster positionally to discuss how they performed before ultimately assigning a grade to that group for the week. As you'd suspect in a 20 point road win the highest marks are going to come in the trenches, as Buffalo was excellent on both sides of the line. They also played dramatically better at a position that's been a huge concern this season (safety) and for good reason. Was this start of something good on the back end or the product of playing a very week passing attack offense?Conversely, the Bills didn't get a whole lot from Josh Allen, at least by his standards anyway but the thing is----they literally didn't need it. Josh's numbers weren't the least bit gaudy but in fairnes he didn't have a single turnover worthy play either. How much does Matt ding Allen for the pedestrian box score stat line? They also take a look at an 0-2 Miami team coming to Buffalo on Thursday night. Are we going to see a Dolphins team that plays like their lives depend on it, or are we going to see the version that's ready to quit on their head coach if not quarterback as well, if they haven't already? That plus some things from around the NFL and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! WKBW-TV's Dom Tibbetts Talks Bills Takeaways (LIVE From Imperial Pizza)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by WKBW-TV sports anchor and reporter Dom Tibbetts to go over a slew of Buffalo Bills takeaways stemming from their Week two victory over the New York Jets in a conversation recorded live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo. The Bills began their season with a second consecutive win and did so in convincing fashion, going to New Jersey and putting a beating on the Jets, 30-10. Buffalo dominated in all three phases of a game that was almost never in doubt. Dom traveled and covered the game for Channel 7 and got a birds eye view of the action and together the guys go over several of the game and team's biggest takeaways.Among them is Joey Bosa looking like an absolute free agent bargain for the team through its first two games. Dom talks about his performance and what he can mean to the unit if he can stay healthy for the season. Also, James Cook is earning the money from his new contract and his highlight reel 44-yard touchdown run served as reminder that the Bills offense is simply on another level with Cook on the field as opposed to off it.Finding things to criticize isn't easy in a three score road win but there was a thing or two that stood out, including Dawson Knox dropping two passes that continues to make you wonder if you can trust him to reel in a catch in a game's critical moment. They also talk about Dom's trip to New York, how things are going at the WKBW-TV news desk, Dom's impressions of Imperial (his first time there) and much more.Be sure to follow Dom on Twitter @DomTibbetsTVand check out the great work he’s doing over at Channel 7.Big shout-out and thank you once again to Imperial Pizza for being a gracious host and for their excellent wings. Bills Embarrass Jets On Road (Live Reactions)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for tons of live reactions not long after the Buffalo Bills went on the road and completely embarrassed the New York Jets, 30-10.The Bills offense scored on their first four drives while the defense held New York scoreless on their first four drives that included a turnover. Buffalo raced off to a 20-0 lead and were never closed to be threatened. The guys talk about how it wasn't surprising the favored Bills but won but in the one sided way they did so.James Cook ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns to pace the offense, including a 44-yard scoring run that was the best offensive highlight of the day. On the other side Joey Bosa led a well balanced defensive effort with a sack and a forced fumble for the second consecutive week. The guys go over them and plenty to more to like from this game in addition to a few things they didn't, including Dawson Knox having rock hands on a pair of Josh Allen throws. That plus Joe and Pat's Mt. Bills vs Jets Week Two Preview & Bold Predictions
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is previewing the Buffalo Bills Week two matchup in New Jersey against the New York Jets, including his three keys to a Buffalo victory, bold predictions and a final score pick for the game. The season couldn't have started out any more exciting (and stressful) for the Bills and their fans as they historically erased a 15 point deficit late to defeat the Baltimore Ravens, 41-40 on a Matt Prater game-winning field goal as the clock expired and came within an inch or two of being blocked. Josh Allen won AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance, Ed Oliver should've won on the other side of the ball as well, and it sets up Buffalo excellently by defeating a team that should be near the top of the conference standings at the end of the regular season.Naturally, the guard needs to be up against a letdown in this week's road matchup against the Jets. New York lost their opener to Pittsburgh but played incredibly competitive in the debut of new head coach Aaron Glenn. There's a lot to like about the Jets and especially their ability to run an offense similar to the successful offense Baltimore ran against Buffalo this past week. Patrick talks about some of the Jets standouts from Week one on offense led by quarterback Justin Fields, who looks revitalized with the Jets.On the Bills side, the win over Baltimore was great but they have to be better, a lot better on defense than they were for the first three quarters plus in their opener. Patrick says that while not trying to sound like a homer, the rust and lack of reps during the preseason for the unit could've been a factor in the ugly early start--not as much as going against the likes of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry among others, but certainly a factor.Patrick also lays out his three keys to the Bills getting their second straight win as well as five bold predictions for the game (few of them juicy too!) and ultimately a final score prediction. Josh Allen's The Best Player In Football Right Now
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several Buffalo Bills topics including a pretty strong and straightforward statement---Josh Allen is the best player in the NFL right now.The reigning MVP took his game to even another level this past Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens when he absolutely had no other choice. Allen threw for 251 passing yards---in the fourth quarter alone and was the most by any quarterback in the league in a victory in almost 30 years. He also now has three career games with at least 250 passing yards, at least two passing scores and two rushing scores, the most in NFL history. The guys discuss not only his performance Sunday but his standing as one of the game's all-time great talents. There was also a handful of promising non-Josh Allen things the guys go over again, including Keon Coleman, Ed Oliver and the play of the tight end position. Conversely the Bills very well may have a DaQuan Jones and safety position problem. Also, Tre White's back to practice this week---should Sean McDermott start him over Dorian Strong if the veteran's good to go health wise? That plus expecting the Jets to try and emulate the Ravens, Joe recaps his trip to Buffalo and being at Highmark Stadium this past weekend and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Positional Week One Grades, Plus Looking Forward To Jets
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren (SB Nation) to run through the Buffalo Bills performances from Sunday night positionally and assigning grades in addition to taking a look at the Bills next opponent, the New York Jets. It's been a handful of days but the shock of the Bills unlikely late comeback against the Baltimore Ravens Sunday night at Highmark Stadium still is lingering. While the win was huge in the moment and potentially the long term there's plenty to be critical of, as the Bills were thoroughly handled for the majority of the game. The guys go through each facet of the Bills positionally for a discussion on how they fared against Baltimore before Matt assigns a grade to each. They then take a look ahead to the Jets, who lost on Sunday to the Pittsburgh Steelers but looked extremely competitive in Aaron Glenn's first game as head coach. The guys don't this is the "gimme" game that a lot of people nationally may think and yes, Buffalo has to be careful of the "letdown" factor. Biggest Bills Week One Takeaways: Good, Bad & Ugly
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over his biggest takeaways----the good, bad and ugly from the Buffalo Bills following their remarkable come from behind victory over the Baltimore Ravens to kick off the regular season in spectacular fashion at Highmark Stadium this past Sunday night.Quite literally per ESPN analytics the Ravens had a 99.1% of winning the game with just 4:18 left in the fourth quarter. While several fans bolted for their cars to beat late night traffic someone forget to tell the Bills the game was over. They capped off a 22-6 fourth quarter with a game-winning field goal drive as time expired. Patrick goes over several things he liked most from the team after watching the game back on film, starting of course with Josh Allen, who immediately reverted back to last year's MVP form when the team absolutely needed to have it. Patrick also considers Sunday quite possibly the best game of Ed Oliver's career as well as the coming out party for second-year wide receiver among several other things discussed. However it's not all roses for the Bills despite the victory and there's a lot to work on. Patrick talks about the horrible play from the safety position, some awful two point conversion chasing by the team, sketchy coordinating from Joe Brady, a newly extended defender continuing to not be very impressive to Patrick and a defensive tackle who looks very close to the end. There was also some ugly thing and one near catastrophic mistake from a Bills rookie that literally almost cost the game on the final field goal kick. That plus Patrick gives some respect to Sean McDermott's attitude with this team, potential longer term ramifications with this huge Buffalo win and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills STUN Ravens In Historic Fashion (Instant Live Reactions)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, the NFL regular season has officially kicked off and Patrick Moran is joined by broadcaster Steve Bermel for full live and instant reactions just minutes after the Buffalo Bills stunned the Baltimore Ravens, 41-10 in historic fashion to win their season opener Sunday night at Highmark Stadium. The Ravens had a 99.1% chance of winning the game with 4:18 left in the fourth quarter per ESPN analytics, but the Bills scored the game's final 17 points to win on a Matt Prater field goal as the clock expired. Quite literally it was one of the most remarkable regular season victories in franchise history. The win is obviously the biggest takeaway---- but there's plenty to be concerned about. Some of the cast has changed but the 2025 Buffalo Bills looked very much like the 2024 Buffalo Bills. Now, don't get it twisted---the 2024 Bills advanced to the AFC title game and were but a few plays away from reaching the Super Bowl, but the issues that plagued the Bills last season looked anything but fixed against the Ravens, which to be fair is possibly the best team on paper in the NFL and certainly looked like it in Orchard Park Sunday night--until the fourth quarter of course..Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills vs Ravens Week One Preview & Bold Predictions
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a preview of the Buffalo Bills upcoming season opener against Baltimore on Sunday night, including analysis on both teams, the biggest keys to a Bills win, five bold predictions and ultimate a final score prediction as well. The wait is finally over for the regular season to start as the Bills embark on the 2025 with an opening Sunday night game against the team they beat the AFC divisional round last year. Of course it's the final home opener at Highmark Stadium before Buffalo moves across the street for 2026. Naturally excitement and expectations are through the roof for both teams, as they should be. Patrick spends some times talking about the Ravens and exactly why he thinks they may have the best top to bottom roster in the NFL right now, not to mention all the motivation in the world to start their season but getting a little revenge against Buffalo.Patrick also talks about three keys for Buffalo to win this game, ranging from a running back that must be at least reasonably effective as well as a pair of defenders that must be X-factors for the Bills in this game. This leads to five bold predictions, one of Patrick's favorite segments to discuss and track from last season.Last but not least, Patrick offers a not necessarily pleasant but objective game prediction. That plus some final thoughts on Hard Knocks as it wrapped up Tuesday and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Buffalo's Daunting Opener, Plus Some NFL Bold Predictions
EOn today's episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss the Buffalo Bills daunting season opener this coming Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens in addition to offering some season NFL predictions from around the league.Matt is back to offer his insight weekly here at Talking Buffalo for a second consecutive season. They start by discussing this opener for the Bills that could very well be the toughest game they play all year. Baltimore is loaded extensively on both sides of the football and the guys discuss how much, including a few additions to the team that could make them even more dangerous. That said, the Bills are hardly pushovers and some things are discussed that could send home the Highmark Stadium crowd extremely happy. Also, Josh Allen was revealed as the third-best player in the NFL right now on the NFL Network countdown, behind Lamar Jackson and Saquan Barkley. Without trying to sound too much like "homers", Patrick and Matt make a case why three is lower for Allen than it should've been.Bills defensive tackle Dewayne Carter is already out for the season after suffering a major injury at practice last week and the guys have thoughts on it. That plus some predictions from around the league, including who'll win MVP, Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year this season as well as few teams predicted to disappoint. That and much more! You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Best Bills Summer Developments Going Into Regular Season (Featuring Ryan Talbot)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Buffalo Bills beat reporter and podcast cohost Ryan Talbot to discuss a few Buffalo Bills related topics, including taking a look at five positive summer developments for the Bills that could bode well going into the regular season, and a look at how some Bills rank in terms of fantasy value.Ryan covers the Bills for Syracuse Dot Com and is also cohost of the popular SHOUT! Buffalo football podcast alongside Matt Parrino. The guys discuss some things that have went well for the Bills between training camp and the preseason and how it could bleed into the regular season. Among those discussed is James Cook signing a new deal to close the door or any potential distractions, Keon Coleman seemingly taking a giant step in his second NFL training camp, Matt Milano looking very much like he did back in 2022, Joey Bosa having a productive and more importantly, healthy training camp and Jordan Hancock having the vibes of a really good future safety. They also run through where several Bills players are ranked in terms of fantasy football and Ryan has some thoughts on if he feels they're ranked too high, too low or just right. Josh Allen is ranked first among all quarterbacks, but both James Cook and Dalton Kincaid are outside the top dozen in their respective positions. Also, no receiver is ranked higher than 45th going into the season. What do they agree and disagree with most? That plus thoughts on Dewayne Carter suffering a season-ending injury at practice last week, the excitement that the regular season is finally upon us and much more. Among the categories to discuss and predict include who'll lead the team in receptions in yards, if Josh Allen will throw at least 30 touchdowns, if James Cook will top his rushing total for last year, will Keon Coleman have at least 50 catches and who'll be the biggest offensive disappointment.Switching to the other side of the ball the guys go over things like who'll be the defensive MP, who'll lead the team in interceptions, will Ed Oliver reach 7.5 sacks, will the team improve on their 11th scoring defense from last year and each having a boldest prediction for the defense. There's some team things discussed as well, including how many games the team will win and how far they'll get in the playoffs. Bills Go Too Far With Bringing Back Former Players?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to react to several different submissions from listeners, including if the Buffalo Bills go too far with bringing back their former players and if Brandon Beane puts too much emphasis on mentorship over adding even more young talent. The Bills, led by their reigning MVP quarterback have one of the best teams in the league and are once again the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl. Clearly there's a lot to like about the roster and the team's chances of finally getting over the hump. That said, the roster construction of this team shouldn't be without criticism and a lot of fans wonder if the Bills take the whole mentorship and voice inside the locker room thing too far when it comes to bringing back aging players who were here previously. This has come to the forefront after recently signing back old vets Jordan Phillips and Jordan Phillips to the practice squad this week. The guys discuss and debate if they think it's a smart move that will be helpful to the team or if they're taking things with it a little too far. Like, shouldn't the coaches have a bigger role than maybe they do?Also, the Bills rivalry week uniforms for their home Sunday Night game in Week five against the New England Patriots are out and look like a whitewalker from Game of Thrones. What do the fans, Patrick and Joe all think of them?Plus, Patrick's annoyed at the lack of Joe's knowledge and appreciation for local kid turned NFL linebacker Shaun Dolac this year. That plus the big Micah Parsons trade with a chat on if the Bills should've been in (or more in) on that, another edition of "One Must Go" and plenty more. State of The Bills Roster, Post Cutdowns (Featuring Owen Parker)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Owen Parker from WGR 550 to discuss several topic, including taking a look at the state of the Buffalo Bills roster now that final roster cuts and practice squad additions have come and gone. There were no major surprise cuts with the Bills as they trimmed down to their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday. No big names cut, no waiver claims awarded and no waived players claimed by other teams. No major surprises on the practice squad either, though many expected names like KJ Hamler, Zach Davidson and Mike White to be among them. The guys discuss all that. What is surprising, however, is the addition of two old (figurative and literal) veterans back in the mix as defensive tackle Jordan Phillips and safety Jordan Poyer return as practice squad additions. The guys have plenty of thoughts on that. Also, Shaun Dolac went from undrafted linebacker out of UB to the Los Angeles Rams and Patrick rightfully gives Shaun his flowers. Plus, the guys talk about Owen's memorable appearance on this show recently alongside his father, the Bulldog. That plus how things are going for Owen over at WGR and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Five Biggest Buffalo Bills Summer Overreactions
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran comes up with five of the biggest Buffalo Bills overreactions based on what he's seen from the team this summer at training camp and the preseason. It's been a rather "dull" summer for the Bills, both on the field and with viewing the HBO Hard Knocks series. To be clear, that's not an insult and in fact, the Bills prefer things that way. That said, there's certainly some strong takeaways to be had from what we've seen so far this summer, perhaps a few of them at least a bit over the top. Patrick goes over five of them, including the bold prediction that fourth-rounder Deone Walker ultimately becomes the best player in what is potentially looking like a pretty loaded 2025 Bills rookie class. Also, while Walker's looked great Patrick feels the opposite can be said for Landon Jackson. Is this prospect destined to be another day two pick that doesn't pan out to much in the NFL? Also, Matt Milano's back to All Pro form, Damar Hamlin may not start Week one but Patrick still thinks he'll see plenty of starts and Keon Coleman has the makings of being a 1,000 yard receiver this season. The Bills have made roster cuts to though all weren't revealed as of this recording. Patrick has thoughts on what happens with Dane Jackson, who could go from released to Week one starter soon enough. That plus Laviska Shenault getting cut, Rasul Douglas signing with Miami and more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Are The Bills "Mid" Beyond Their MVP Quarterback?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by "Sneaky" Joe DiBiase from WGR 550 to discuss a variety of Buffalo Bills and other topics, including taking a deep dive into ESPN's NFL team positional power rankings and figuring out if the Bills are considered "mid" beyond their MVP quarterback.ESPN's Mike Clay recently posted a story where he ranked all 32 teams from best to work at each position on both sides of the ball. The Bills ranked highly overall on the strength of course of Josh Allen, but there's some positional rankings that leave Patrick and Joe a little perplexed if not feeling they're egregious. They talk about a few of them, zeroing in specifically on the offensive line and running back. Also, Jordan Phillips is reportedly coming back to the Bills. What does that ultimately mean for a few incumbent defensive tackles on the roster? They also spend some time talking about what Joe's up to over at WGR 550. That plus a fun fact about Patrick and Joe they didnt even know about each other until recently, Buffalo Wing Fest is coming (yay?), another edition of "One Must Go" and plenty more. You can follow Joe on Twitter @SneakyJoeWGR and be sure to check him out at WGR.com.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Biggest Bills Differences From Last Season
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several Buffalo Bills and other topics, including taking a look at the biggest differences with this season's Bills team compared to last year. The Bills won their fifth consecutive AFC east title, had the second seed in the conference and made it to the AFC championship game last season. While Patrick isn't quite prediction Buffalo will repeat last season's accolades and perhaps take it even further, he does think this season's roster looks more promising than last year and points out four major reasons why. How much does Joe disagree with Patrick's takes? Also, the guys discuss Joe's general assessment that the preseason means nothing beyond injuries and Patrick says that theory will get put to the test over the next few days as we find out if wide receiver Tyrell Shavers makes the Bills 53-man roster.Additionally, undrafted free agent Shaun Dolac shined with the Rams this summer and is going to make their roster. Naturally it's pissed off a lot of Buffalo fans who were very familiar with Dolac and think Brandon Beane made a big mistake not drafting him. That plus Joe's Mt. Six Bills Fighting For Jobs In Preseason Finale
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective to discuss a handful of Buffalo Bills topics, including at least six players that could very well still be fighting for a roster spot all the way through the upcoming preseason finale at Tampa on Saturday night. Many people consider the preseason meaningless and that's especially been true with Buffalo, who's hardly played their starters at all and barely will in Tampa either. Still, while most spots on the Bills initial 53-man roster have very likely been decided already, there's definitely at least a small handful still available going into this final game and the guys talk about more than a half dozen of them. Among the players discussed are Tyrell Shavers, Dane Jackson, JaMarcus Ingram, Brandon Codrington, Laviska Shenault and Chase Lundt. During the conversation Patrick adds two more offensive lineman in real time as well.In news that happened right before this was recorded----Tre White was injured at practice. The guys react to that. Also, roster cutdown day is next Tuesday. Could the Bills end up making a trade or two before that? The guys go over a few candidates who could possibly end up dealt .Also discussed is Cole Bishop and if PK has any worry that he could end up being another Boogie Basham. That plus Joe Brady is in love with his wide receivers and plenty more. You can follow PK on Twitter @PK_BSC and check out the Buffalo Sports Collective podcast. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Are We Panicking Too Much Over Bills Safety Situation?
EIt's another edition of The Podbag on today's Talking Buffalo, the episode where the listeners control the topics with their questions, comments and takes submitted. Patrick Moran's responding to them, including one that leads to a nice discussion about whether Buffalo Bills fans (and perhaps the media) are acting a little too stressed over what's looking a very shaky Bills safety room. It's no secret Buffalo is struggling with both health and on-field play when it comes to the safety position, it's been obvious since the beginning of training camp last summer and you can argue last season as well. Taylor Rapp's pretty effectively but banged up a lot. Cole Bishop is a second-round pick last year but has battled injury and shaky play that makes head coach Sean McDermott sound less than confident in him. Damar Hamlin is athletically limited and at times a liability despite his amazing story and offseason free agent signee Darrick Forrest never got any momentum going. Only fifth-round rookie Jordan Hancock, who got banged up last week is inspiring any real optimism is not confidence recently. However, a comment from a listener leads to a suggestion and discussion that we're spending too much time on that position and not enough on other factors who can help the safeties. That includes a pass rush that should be improved with Joey Bosa and three rookie defensive lineman that were among the first four picks as well as Terrell Bernard and Matt Milano both healthy behind them. In fact, Bills defensive coordinator said this week that Milano has been arguably as good as any Bill on either side of the ball this summer. Long story short--the better the defense is in front of the safeties the less play that's no better than average will matter. Also, a listener doesn't think either Tyrell Shavers or Elijah Moore is making this team and another points out an element that should keep the Bills offense near the top of the league's best. That plus the preseason sucks, the best episode of Hard Knocks yet dropped this week and a whole lot more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Rookie & Second Year Player Evaluations
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss several Buffalo Bills topics, including going over each rookie and second year player selected by general manager Brandon Beane and evaluating where they're at just weeks before the Bills kick off the 2025 regular season. It's too early to concluded if the past few drafts by Beane have been successful or not of course, but it's never too early to have an honest discussion of how they're looking right now. The guys go over each and every pick and as you'd expect, find a very much mixed back of early success, promising potential and a few that seemed destined for failure. Also with Matt not being on the show last week and the Bills now having played two of the team's three preseason games since they've spoken on the show last, Matt provides insight into what he's seen, what he's liked the most from Buffalo so far and areas of concern beyond just the safety position. That plus a few things the guys are hoping to see in Buffalo's preseason finale in Tampa this coming Saturday night and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Biggest Film Takeaways From The Windy City Debacle
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over all his biggest takeaways both good and (mostly) bad after watching the film back from the Buffalo Bills blowout loss to Chicago against the Bears, 38-0 on Sunday night. If you care about the outcome and score of the game which spoiler alert, you shouldn't then you're probably in panic mode as the Bills suffered their most lopsided preseason loss in three and a half decades. However, even if the outcome and score of the game doesn't matter some things you see from the players during it absolutely do, at least sometimes and Patrick, like probably most of you found plenty to note like. It was bad in real time and even worse on several occasions during All 22 film study and Patrick hits on a lot of it, including a completely miserable day for popular reserve inside linebacker Joe Andreessen, who continues to looks positively loss in pass coverage for a second straight week. While Andreessen's performance was discouraging, it pales in comparison to what we've continued to see from what's unmistakably the biggest concern on this team right now, the safety position. Cole Bishop returned for 12 snaps on Sunday and a few of them were a disaster. Damar Hamlin fared no better, alarming considering one of them are going to end up starting against Baltimore in a few weeks. It was also a pretty terrible game for Dane Jackson, Elijah Moore and Mike White--all of whom could've possibly played themselves out of a job.Conversely there were a few bright spots, including rookie safety Jordan Hancock and another nice flash from fellow rookie defensive tackles Deone Walker. Plus, hey---Brad Robbins punted well! That and plenty more discussed as the Bills will try to end the preseason on a less somber note this weekend in Tampa. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills vs Bears Immediate Postgame Reactions (Ewww)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for some instant live reactions immediately after the conclusion of the Buffalo Bills preseason game at the Chicago Bears that saw the Bills down four touchdowns before they hit the locker room for halftime and ultimately lose, 38-0. If it wasn't obvious already, the Buffalo Bills officially have a safety problem. Preseason or not it's still football and even in the most simplistic of ways, both Cole Bishop and Damar Hamlin looked positively dreadful in Chicago, which sets Patrick off on a series of rants. Whether it's rookie Jordan Hancock or Brandon Beane looking outside the organization for help it's obvious to Patrick the team needs help beyond Taylor Rapp, who has issues staying healthy himself. Now granted, not a Bills regular starter player in this game other than Bishop and it's a preseason game and one it clearly looked Chicago game planned a lot more than Buffalo for but make not mistake about it---a lot of the depth guys looked horrendous. Despite Joe not caring at all Patrick talks about the struggles of "Buffalo" Joe Andreessen and Dane Jackson among several others. Also, where were the Bills rookie defensive lineman in this game? Patrick's clearly more fired up than he should be while again, Joe doesn't care at all. It's Joe's first weekly appearance on the podcast since being on "vacation" and the guys spend some time catching up and by that, we mean mostly trading insults. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Silver Lining With The Buffalo Bills Injuries
EIt's another edition of The Podbag on this episode of Talking Buffalo, as Patrick Moran is answering questions, comments and takes submitted from listeners about a variety of topics, including finding some silver lining in the rash of annoying but fortunately not severe injuries to Buffalo Bills players throughout this training camp.Injuries have been a problem for the Bills since camp started, although it appears as Max Hairston's knee injury is the only one right now that seems destined to leak into the regular season. Still, it's been an annoyance of sorts especially at some positions, particularly wide receiver and pass catchers in general. Curtis Samuel, Tyrell Shavers, Elijah Moore, KJ Halmer, Josh Palmer and Dawson Knox have missed time, some more than others. While that's obviously not good the silver lining is Josh Allen's had more opportunity to work on developing stronger chemistry with the team's top overall picks the past two years, Dalton Kincaid and Keon Coleman. The results, at least what we've seen through camp look promising. Patrick has thoughts on how they've looked and how critically important he remains thinking both will be in the success of this Bills offense in 2025.Also James Cook ended any potential drama by signing a four-year extension this week and Patrick has plenty of thoughts on that, especially considering the contract may not end up being exactly as it appeared to be first reported. Semi related---does Cook's deal signify this likely Connor McGovern's last year in Buffalo? Also, Patrick discusses a pair of rookies he's been very high on recently and spoiler alert---they're both day three picks. That plus Terrel Bernard, Hard Knocks, Patricks's accused of having dementia and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Reaction To James Cook Getting PAID & Latest HBO Hard Knocks
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Maniac from Trainwreck Sports to react to Buffalo Bills running back James Cook's shiny new contract as well as the latest episode of HBO's Hard Knocks featuring the Bills. The Cook contract saga officially came to an end early Wednesday morning when it was revealed that Cook signed a new four-year extension with the Bills that will keep him in Buffalo through 2029. The deal is reportedly worth $48 million over four years and includes $30 million in guaranteed money----slotting him currently third-most in that category. The guys have plenty of takes about a deal that while far from a bargain it feels like the team's gotten with some other high end players, it was a deal that needed to get done for a lot of reasons on a few levels. Also, the second episode of Hard Knocks aired on Tuesday night. The guys go over things that really liked about the episode as well as some things they didn't, concluding that while it's made for fascinating viewing for Bills fans, the lack of drama or compelling storylines could be a snoozefest for those who aren't a fan of the team. They also spend some time talking about what goes on behind the curtain of content creating--a lot of things that fans of shows they enjoy don't always see. That plus Jordan Poyer's hating on the Dolphins and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! What Bills Players Are Helping & Hurting Themselves Most ?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Ajay Cybulski (Trainwreck Sports) to discuss some Buffalo Bills related topics including going over a handful of players the guys think have helped themselves the most--and the least between the ending of training camp the first preseason game last weekend. There may not be an abundance of very tough roster cut and depth chart decisions general manager Brandon Beane and his staff have to make over the next few weeks, but there's certainly at least a handful. While for the majority of players on this team it's simply about getting ready for the regular season or in some cases putting out good film for 31 other teams to evaluate, there's definitely some players who are seeing their stock rise and fall recently. Among those discussed on the positive side by the guys is Tyrell Shavers, Jordan Hancock, Frank Gore Jr, Laviska Shenault and and Chase Lundt.Conversely there's others who are not playing up to par or at least it seems that way and even if they're not all in danger of getting cut, they could be seeing trust from Sean McDermott wanning. Among those discussed is Damar Hamlin, Elijah Moore, Dane Jackson and Zack Davidson. Also, the guys talk about a small handful of guys that just weren't ever able to get any serious momentum going this summer. That plus potential trades, what the defensive line may look like come Week seven if there aren't any major injuries and much more.Be sure to give Ajay a follow on Twitter/X @ajaycybulski and be on the lookout for content he's contributed at Trainwreck Sports. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! How Will Things With James Cook Ultimately Play Out?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by blogger and podcaster Chris Ostrander to discuss a handful of Buffalo Bills and Sabres topics, including a dive into what's going on with Bills running back and how they expect it to ultimately play out. After an encouraging first week of Bills training camp where Cook not only reported but was a full participant for practices----and Patrick saying he looked electric at St. John Fisher, things suddenly took a turn when Cook abruptly stopped practicing. Reports from national insiders gave indication that contract negotiations between Cook and the team may not be that far off and that was encouraging, but despite that and a bar potentially being set with Kyren Williams last week, Cook is still electing to not practice or play. What wasn't worrisome at all may start becoming that, as it's become apparent there's at least somewhat a disconnect between Cook and Sean McDermott. The guys have opinions on Cook "holding in" and why he decided to do it this way as well as where they think things stand and more importantly, where they may ultimately be heading. Will the two come to an agreement before the season? Will Cook continue to either not play or be less than 100% fully committed to buying in when the season starts without a deal? Hell, could trading Cook now realistically be on the table? Also, it's been a while since Chris has been on and he has plenty of thoughts about what he's liked the most and least from the Sabres offseason. Why isn't Alex Tuch extended already and should we be worried that he's not? That plus what if anything concerns him most about the Bills and plenty more.Be sure to follow Chris on X at @2ITB_Buffalo and check out the Two in the Box blog in addition to the Instigator Podcast. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Preseason Opener Biggest Takeaways (Good & Bad)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over several of his biggest takeaways after watching back the Buffalo Bills preseason opener against the New York Giants, both good and bad and he's joined by Chris Mazella of the Step Brothers Sports podcast. The Bills lost the game, 34-25 but that means absolutely nothing. What does or at least potentially mean something is how several of the players and units performed. There was plenty of things to like from the game and several are discussed, including really strong professional debuts for rookie defensive tackles TJ Sanders and Deone Walker. Also, Matt Milano took all off one play to remind fans what we've been seeing at training camp for the past few weeks. Joey Bosa had a strong Buffalo debut as well.On thee flip side, it was a rough start for rookie defensive edge rusher Landon Jackson. We also saw at least a little bit of struggle from Tre White in his first game back with Buffalo. Also, Zach Davidson did himself no favors in an already uphill bid to make the team with two really bad drops. There's plenty of more discussed from the game in addition to a look ahead and much more.Be sure to check out the Step Brothers Sports podcast. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Biggest Bills Takeaways From Camp Ending Practice
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Buffalo Bills training camp in Pittsford has ended and Patrick Moran has several takeaways from on and off the field in addition to putting together a 53-man roster projection ahead of their first preseason game against the New York Giants. The final practice at St. John Fisher quite frankly was the boring one with the exception of one play and perhaps a few developments that Patrick elaborates on. The biggest story came off the practice field, where James Cook didn't practice for a fifth straight day despite head coach Sean McDermott saying during his presser he expected Cook just a half hour before practice started. If you didn't think this was a story before, it certainly appears to be now. Also, Patrick highlights a few things he's really liked from training camp as a whole as well as a few things he's found most worrisome. Who and what have impressed him the most and least? Also, Patrick's taking a stab at a 53-man roster projection now that training camp is over, with a very difficult time landing on who the 53rd is. That plus some Bills stars hit up the Pittsford Dairy for ice cream while this podcast is being recorded and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Thoughts From Bills Second-Last Camp Practice, Plus Hard Knocks EP1 Review
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has several observations from the Buffalo Bills second-last training camp practice in Rochester as well as thoughts on the premiere episode of HBO Hard Knocks that aired on Tuesday night. The Bills clearly ran out of patience with linebacker Baylon Spector, releasing him following yet another calf injury. Like many of you it's a development Patrick saw coming a miles away. He's got plenty of thoughts on a talented linebacker who's certainly a rosterable caliber NFL player but simply has been unable to stay healthy. Does this open the door for Edefun Olofoshio to take a run at making the team again?Meanwhile, Keon Coleman has been one of the most polarizing players throughout Bills camp this year, mostly for good reasons. Patrick uses examples from this specific practice to paint a picture on why Keon's such an enigma---from a difficult catch with one of the league's best defenders on him to an inexcusable drop during individual drills. .Once again---the entire Keon Coleman experience in a single practice. There's also other developments from camp on Tuesday worth discussing, including Terrell Bernard returning to full duty, Dorian Williams getting closer, an unheralded receiver having a strong camp and of course, James Cook sitting out a third straight practice. That plus a review of what Patrick liked and didn't from the Bills first Hard Knocks episode and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Camp Observations: Keon Coleman's Noticeable Growth
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Mike Bundt from Trainwreck Sports to discuss some of the things Bundt has observed while covering Buffalo Bills training camp as it dwindles down to the final two practices at St. John Fisher in Pittsford.Bundt's been on the field plenty during camp as a working member of the media. Patrick asks him what that's been like and some of the pros and cons of when an alternative media guy who's an admitted huge Bills fan is tasked with objectively covering the team and practice. Bundt's produced some excellent coverage and video packages during his time and a few of them are discussed on this show, including the glaring jump in Keon Coleman's second camp and the continuity of a vastly talented Buffalo offensive line. They also talk about the James Cook situation, which took a sudden turn potentially for the worse when Cook started "holding in" on practice Sunday. Will there be any real resolution before the regular season starts? Also, what guys have been most and least impressive at camp? Among the litany of injuries which ones are most worrisome? That plus guys to really focus on when the Bills preseason starts this weekend and much more.Make sure to follow Mike on Twitter @Mike_Bundt.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Camp Observations: Big Day For Shavers
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss several Buffalo Bills training camp observations from practice on Monday morning, including the reemergence of a wide receiver bidding to make the 53-man roster and yet another injury forcing an all-too-familiar player to leave the field with trainers.Bills practice was closed to the public on Monday but Matt had a media credential and was on the field to witness everything. Among the things that most impressed him was the play of wide receiver Tyrell Shavers, who impressed early in camp before injuring an ankle last Sunday at the very end of practice. Shavers is trying to make the roster and Matt feels if he can string along performances like he did on Monday that his chances of landing a spot are very good, whether the Bills keep six receivers or even just five.Meanwhile after having a promising first nine days of camp that saw him taking a lot of first team reps with Terrell Bernard out and looking good doing it, linebacker Baylor Spector came up limping and left the field with trainers. The best ability is availability and Spector simply can't stay healthy. What does Monday mean for him and perhaps for second-year linebacker Joe Andreessen?Matt also shares several other observations both good and bad from Monday's practice. That plus a discussion on where things stand and how they may play out with James Cook and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Camp Observations: Defensive Line Dominance
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a bunch of observations from Buffalo Bills training camp including what's indisputably become the biggest tory of camp---injuries seriously taking a toll on the roster and the James Cook saga taking an unexpected turn.Injuries have been an issue for the Bills literally since the beginning of camp and they continue to be. The latest injury is star wide receiver Khalil Shakir, who got his ankle rolled up on during a run play at the Blue and Red scrimmage at Highmark Stadium this past Friday. The result was a high ankle sprain and head coach Sean McDermott is calling it a week to week injury, with speculation forming that it could take him right up against the start of the regular season in a little more than a month. Add Shakir to the list of notable names who've already missed or are missing valuable camp time now, a list that includes Terrell Bernard, Dawson Knox, Spencer Brown, Curtis Samuel, Cole Bishop, Taylor Rapp, Elijah Moore, Max Hairston and several others. On the Cook front, the running back showed up but didn't participate at all during practice Sunday, referring to the term "business" as a reply to every question asked why he missed and if he was "holding in" after. Patrick discusses if he thinks this may be a cautionary move by Cook because the sides may actually be closer to a deal, or if Cook is frustrated after showing up and participating in what he perceives as good faith but the sides not being close to a deal at all. Either way it's not ideal for the Bills, not to mention now very likely a large focus point with HBO's Hard Knocks debuting on Tuesday night.Patrick also has several observations as the Bills head into their final week at St. John Fisher. Among them is a strong day for edge rusher AJ Epenesa, TJ Sanders starting to build momentum at defensive tackle, Cam Lewis being used all over the place, Deion Cain trying his best to make an impact at wide receiver, who's stock is going considerably up and down lately and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live!
