Can Bills Overcome Their Flaws? Plus, Hallmark Holiday Movie Review
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss if they think the Buffalo Bills can overcome what's becoming glaring roster flows. Plus, some hilarious takes on the new movie Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story. The Bills didn't play this weekend and are still licking their wounds, literally and figuratively from their loss last Thursday night in Houston. The guys spend some time having a discussion of the flows with the roster and if the Bills can ultimately overcome it before it's too late, including certain guys regressing and playing in roles well past their prime, some core players who aren't playing like they're paid and young guys giving them next to nothing.Patrick thinks the Bills even making the playoff isn't the lock that most think it is. Does Joe agree? Also, the new Bills related Hallmark movie just dropped on Saturday and both guys watched it---Patrick twice because he loves cheesy Christmas movies and Joe because Patrick kinda forced him to. What are their thoughts---did Joe actually enjoy it? That and plenty more.Today’s episode is brought to you by the law offices of William Mattar. Hurt in a car, call William Mattar. 444-4444. Bills Takeaways - Is This Season Realistically Toast?
EOn this bonus Saturday episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over all his biggest Buffalo Bills takeaways after seeing the film and going over stats on the heels of the Bills going to Houston and getting physically beat--and beat up against the Texans in their 23-19 loss. The Bills can realistically kiss their hopes of winning a sixth straight AFC east division title goodbye. Before getting into Houston game specifics Patrick spends time discussing what's wrong with the roster for pretty much the entire season to this point and why it's unlikely to change. As far as Houston, Patrick goes over all eight of Josh Allen's sacks and what went wrong---from an offensive line that was dominated to receivers not getting open, bad blocking schemes and a quarterback that was holding the ball for too long. Also, it led to three more Bills giveaways as the team has shockingly become a turnover machine.Defensively things were generally much better but even still---this felt like a game they needed the defense to get sack and force turnovers, something they weren't able to do against backup quarterback Davis Mills. All this is discussed plus the infuriating 1:03 at the end of the second quarter, guys who are flat out hurting this team at this point, worrying about how the rest of the season will play out and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Offense DECIMATED In Houston (Instant Reaction)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for plenty of instant live reaction just moments after the Buffalo Bills went to Houston and saw Josh Allen take the beating of his career in a Texans 23-19 victory that all but kills the Bills realistic chances of winning a sixth straight AFC east title.Allen was sacked eight times, pressured countless and times and threw two backbreaking interceptions. While plenty of that was on an offensive line that got utterly dominated by Houston's front four and dominated is an understatement---Allen deserves plenty of blame himself for holding on to the ball too long at times, making a handful of bad decisions and a few lousy throws throughout the game.Joe Brady deserves a lot of blame too as the Bills far too often vacated the running game with James Cook, with the exception of going to him on an incredibly stupid fourth down call. The guys discuss the all the other good, bad and ugly of everything from the Buffalo perspective including yet a handful more injuries sure to hurt the team. There's no getting around it---this game sucked. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Positional Analysis: Good Versions of Bernard & Benford Back?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren (SB Nation) for their weekly Buffalo Bills positional analysis and report card grades from last weekend's win over Tampa in addition to taking a look at a Houston Texans the Bills will face on a short week on Thursday night.Chaos was the name of the game for the Buffalo Bills on Sunday and that was mostly a good thing, especially for a Buffalo that turned back the clock to the Josh Allen days of old and were slinging the ball all over the field. The guys go over each position group on the offense that put up 44 points despite turning the ball over three times and between the mistakes and a rushing game that really didn't take off til near the end of the game, assigning grades could be a little tricky for Matt this time around.Ditto on the defensive side of the ball as the unit was gashed for over 200 yards in the running game yet again and gave up 32 points. However they did produce two takeaways and got a few key stops along the way. How will Matt's pen treat the defense?Plus, wow did the special teams return unit ever have their coming out party. That plus a discussion about their coaching, a tough turnaround before hitting the road to face a Texans team potentially down their quarterback in prime time on Thursday night and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Big Takeaways: Keon Can (And Should) Have To Wait
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over his biggest Buffalo Bills takeaways after watching back the film from their 44-32 victory over Tampa on Sunday, including why the Bills would be best served to leave Keon Coleman on the inactive list beyond just this game.Coleman was a healthy scratch for the Bills following him reportedly being late to a team meeting on Friday, the third publicly known instance that's led to discipline from Sean McDermott. From what Patrick and surely most of you saw from the receivers and offense in general on Sunday, they may legitimately be better off without him. Snap counts where shared nearly equally by five different receivers and all had a hand in Buffalo's offensive explosion. Patrick explains why Josh Palmer, Khalil Shakir and Tyrell Shavers should be the first three three receivers going forward, with Gabe Davis back in the No. 4 role he had early in his career and Curtis Samuel as the inside/outside No. 5 with versatility. Hell, Keon shouldn't even be the next guy up at this point, a distinction Patrick thinks should fall on Elijah Moore.Patrick also goes over some of the reasons he felt this was a Joe Brady redemption game and why he's not dwelling on any Josh Allen mistakes when he puts up the kind of numbers he did on Sunday. It was a mixed bag on defense and Patrick goes over a lot of it, from the good (Terrel Bernard, Christian Benford, Cole Bishop, Jordan Poyer) to the bad (Joey Bosa, Greg Rousseau, Matt Milano) and if some changes could be on the way for the defense. That plus special teams deserves some love, a quick turnaround in getting ready for Houston and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Beat Bucs Live Reaction - The Joe Brady Redemption Game
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for a ton of live reaction not long after the Buffalo Bills earned a badly needed victory over the Tampa Bay Bucs, 44-32 in one of the wilder games of the season. If superb offense, borderline pathetic defense and 10 lead changes are your thing, you're in luck with this one. The guys talk about the good, bad and ugly of everything from Buffalo's perspective in this one.Offensively it was a bit of a head scratcher for the Bills. Josh Allen threw two interceptions and a handful of other mistakes that definitely left points on the board. Yet it didn't matter as he accounted for more than 350 total yards and six touchdowns. "Everybody Eats" was back too as several guys enjoyed meals in the Buffalo passing game, including a big day from Tyrell Shavers and over 120 receiving yards from the Bills running backs.Defensively was kind of disastrous and the guys discuss how this unit is little more than a reputation defense at this point---a dog that's far more bark than bite. They also discuss of the biggest plays and players that shaped this game, where they think Buffalo is headed following this, the controversial Keon Coleman benching and tons more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills vs Bucs Preview, Predictions & Why This Is Huge For Buffalo
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran provides a Buffalo Bills vs Tampa Bay Bucs preview, including keys to a Buffalo victory, five bold predictions for this game and why this is must-win for the Bills in some ways. The Bills are 6-3 and sitting in very decent shape, record-wise. However, if they want to realistically have a shot at the No. 1 seed in the AFC or even more importantly, stay right in the race for a sixth straight divisional title, they absolutely can't afford to drop this game to the Bucs or any home game remaining for that matter. Patrick highlights four players where the pressure to win this game and start playing better is turned up the most.He also takes a look at a very talented and battle tested Tampa team that comes to Highmark Stadium with a lot of confidence, fueled by quarterback Baker Mayfield, who right now is very much in the mix for 2025 NFL MVP.From there Patrick lays out three keys to a Buffalo win on Sunday, including pressuring Baker Mayfield, finding a way to stop the deep ball he loves throwing and making the Buffalo offense more of a threat in the passing game themselves. That plus five bold predictions for the game, will Patrick actually pick against the Bills and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Can Sabres Weather The Storm? (Featuring Matthew Fairburn & Kris Baker)
EOn today's Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by both Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic and Kris Baker of Sabres Prospects to discuss how the Buffalo Sabres can weather the storm of injuries and illnesses that are already threatening their season as well as their popular hockey show and other topics. The Sabres have been competitive so far this season but both on ice injuries and significant illnesses off it already have the season in peril. From injuries on face offs, face laceration infections, blood clots and life threating health scares to significant others, Buffalo has been anything but healthy. It's a big reason why they're currently sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. The guys go over everything beyond their control what's went wrong and if this team is incapable of not falling off to a point contending for the playoffs later in the season becomes insurmountable.Patrick also asks them about Alex Tuch and if the guys think it's only going to get harder to see sign him to an extension as the season goes on. If they can't, what can they get for him in a trade and how demoralizing would being unable to lock him up be to the organization? They also spend a little time talking a few other topics, including the Buffalo Bills, a team both guys obviously follow pretty closely as well. That plus how's life with the Baker Fairburn Hockey Show and much more. You can follow Matt on Twitter at @MatthewFairburnand of course check out his coverage of the Sabres at The Athletic,Follow Kris Baker @SabresProspects and be sure to check out the Baker Fairburn Hockey Show wherever you get your podcasts. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Positional Analysis - Are Big Changes Coming Soon?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by SB Nation's Matt Warren for some Buffalo Bills positional analysis, including a discussion on a few positions that could potentially see changes going forward as early as this coming week.As they've done every week throughout the season, Patrick and Matt get together mid-week to go over the Bills most recent performance position-by-position to discuss the good and bad before Matt ultimately hands out a grade for each. Unfortunately for Bills Mafia this past week was a failing one as the Bills absolutely stunk up Hard Rock Stadium in their three score loss to the lowly 2-7 Dolphins.Could this lead to some changes internally? The guys discuss is Gabe Davis could be just about ready to join the active roster and if so, does that come at the expense of an underwhelming Keon Coleman? Also should Shaq Thompson start at linebacker if his calf if good to go this week over either Matt Milano or Terrell Bernard and also should Max Hairston go back to a platoon with Tre White if Christian Benford's back on Sunday or has Hairston done enough the wrestle the job away. That plus a discussion about an interesting new book, frustration towards Brandon Beane if a NFL Network report is accurate and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Takeaways: Time To See Fire From Josh Allen
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran offers his biggest takeaways from the Buffalo Bills colossal disaster loss in Miami on Sunday after spending time going over all of the statistics as well as watching back the game take, including a plea for the reigning MVP quarterback to stop taking all the bullets at the podium after these type of losses.Josh Allen did not play well enough to give Buffalo their best chance to win on Sunday, let's be very clear about that. He had two turnovers in this game in the second half, both in Miami territory that were on no one but himself. Essentially that took Buffalo out of the running to come back late. That said, Allen stood at the podium yet again and burdened all the accountability to what was an ugly loss to a team that's been very bad all season. While it's been admirable and unselfish for the Bills leader to be the most accountable player on the team, Patrick would like to see, to use a wrestling term, a bit of a "heel turn" from Allen and start calling out some of his teammates, his coaching, the game plan and specific play calls. Guys like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers may be considered jerks in a lot of ways but they were never afraid to point the fingers at others and it often helped spark their team.Of course, the passing game often looked in shambles despite Allen going over 100 yards and at the root of it is once again Keon Coleman. He had a 35 yard touchdown against a third string cornerback but some of the routes he ran on film look less than 100%. Is there true discourse between quarterback and receiver? Sure seems like it at this point, how long does Buffalo continue to try and force Keon to be a big part of the offense because where he was drafted? The defense had its struggles too and the linebackers were often a big part of it. What in the world has happened to Terrel Bernard and Matt Milano? It's ugly out there for them. That plus why ego could be keeping the Bills back from unlocking their best potential and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Absolutely Disgraceful Bills Effort In Miami (Live Reaction)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for a ton of heated live reaction on the Buffalo Bills going down to Miami and and putting forth an absolutely disgraceful performance against the Dolphins, losing 30-13 to put their AFC east division title hopes in extreme jeopardy. There's a myriad of factors that contributed to the Bills stunning loss at Hard Rock Stadium and despite doing a lot of good things and trying to carry the offense on his back by himself, Josh Allen was guilty of two horrific turnovers in the second half that were on no one but himself, both in Miami territory too.The fault hardly ends there and the guys have a ton to say about it. From a defense that's actually reliant on guys like Jordan Phillips and Jordan Poyer to be meaningful contributors to an offense featuring receivers that flat out can't get open, to an offensive coordinator calling passing plays on fourth and a yard and a team that didn't look ready to overcome any adversity at all, it was just ugly and perhaps humbling. They also talk about what to expect going forward, including Dalton Kincaid having a hamstring injury that makes this roster even thinner, Joe's Mt. Flushmore and plenty of fire for Brandon Beane. That plus did this kill any Super Bowl vibes and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills at Miami Preview & Bold Predictions - Keon Breakout Game Incoming?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a full preview of the Buffalo Bills traveling to Miami to face the Dolphins, including the lowdown on both teams, three keys to a Bills victory, five bold predictions and a final score pick with explanation. The Bills are back on track after a road win at Carolina and beating the three-time defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs in Orchard Park this past Sunday. Meanwhile Miami is 2-7 and just fired their general manager over the past week. It's a mismatch on paper and Patrick explains why there's good reason for that. For a lack of a better wording, the Dolphins stink---on both sides of the ball. That said, this is the NFL and we just watched Carolina go on the road and knock off the Green Bay Packers last Sunday. Patrick goes over three keys for the Bills that will guard against them being upset at Hard Rock Stadium. From there it's five bold predictions----is Keon Coleman finally going to put together a big game? Patrick seems to think so. That plus a final score guess, will the Bills cover the 9.5 spread? Should The Heat Crank Up On Brandon Beane?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by broadcaster and recurring guest Steve Bermel to talk Buffalo Bills, when/if the Bills will admit to having a Keon Coleman problem and discuss if Brandon Beane could at least be flirting with approaching hot seat territory.Quite frankly it feels unnecessary negative to discuss anything with the Bills in anything but a positive light since they came back from their bye to smack Carolina on the road and then handle the three-time defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs this past Sunday as home underdogs. The Bills are back to sitting pretty at 6-2 and very much alive in the race for the best record in the AFC.Only it doesn't quite feel so great about this team because of the injuries, because there's a few players that just can't get it going and mostly because the trade deadline just came and went without the Bills making a move. The guys discuss Buffalo not making a trade and Patrick doesn't really buy Beane's comments to the media on Wednesday. While both guys acknowledge there's almost no change Beane's getting fired anytime soon regardless of how this plays out, Patrick thinks it's fair to ask if Beane at least deserves to have the heat cranked up on him should this roster fall short yet again in January in its goal to reach the Super Bowl. They also talk about Keon Coleman and his role with this team. How much you should expect from Keon is up for debate but one thing's for sure---the stats are ugly and if you're expecting anything more besides a willing blocker who catches a few passes per game for a few dozen yards, you're likely disappointed. They also talk about the latest injuries the team is dealing with heading to Miami. That plus the Sabres have become OT merchants and much more. Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.Today’s episode is brought to you by the law offices of William Mattar. Bills Positional Analysis, Plus Why No Deadline Trades?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to go over the Buffalo Bills positionally with analysis and grades stemming from their win last weekend against Kansas City in addition to a NFL trade deadline that featured some final day fireworks but no trades by Brandon Beane. There were a few whopper blockbuster trades on deadline day, including the Jets sending Sauce Gardner to the Colts for two firsts plus AD Mitchell and then Quinen Williams to Dallas for a first, second and Mazi Smith. A handful of other deals were done but none by Buffalo. The guys have plenty of takes on Beane standing pat and a riveting rumor that broke over the final hours that Buffalo may be in on a Von Miller return and/or Deebo Samuel. Then it's back to their weekly feature where the guys go over the last game from a positional standpoint and talk about what went right and wrong for each with ultimately an assigned grade. Could the tight end room receive a rare A-plus from Matt, who gave out two of them the week prior from the Carolina game. Which positional group graded out the lowest? Who were a few under the radar studs and duds from the Chiefs game? That plus a look at Sunday's matchup in Miami and much more.Today's episode is brought to you by the law offices of William Mattar. Bills Hold Off Chiefs (Live Reactions)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for plenty of live reaction just moments after the conclusion of the Buffalo Bills holding off the Kansas City Chiefs in another regular season thriller at Highmark Stadium, 28.21.With the NFL trade deadline less than 48 hours away at kickoff, the Bills with a couple of significant injuries and being a rare home underdog, were the Bills able to knock off the Chiefs in the regular season for a fifth consecutive time? The answer was---yes. Buffalo's defensive effort was superb against a Kansas City offense that came into the game red hot, especially considering the injuries Buffalo's defense racked up, including another devastating one to Michael Hoecht. Offensively there was balance as Josh Allen threw well, Dalton Kincaid went over 100 yards receiving and James Cook once again topped 100 yards rushingThe guys discuss the good, bad and ugly of it all and don't hold anything back, as usual with this show.Joe also has his weekly Mt. Bills vs Chiefs Full Preview & Bold Predictions - MUST Win For Buffalo?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran previews the Buffalo Bills huge matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in Orchard Park this Sunday as well as offering three keys to a Bills victory, five bold predictions and a final score guess for the clash. In what's become an annual regular season tradition, all eyes around the NFL will be focused on the Bills versus Chiefs and Patrick talks about how there's plenty of stake for both teams, as the loser will have a far bigger uphill battle winning this own division let alone getting the top seed in the conference. While Buffalo's actually had Kansas City's number in the regular season over the past four years, Patrick admits that he thinks this year the Chiefs currently have the better roster as things stand and explains why. After going over both teams and things to look for, Patrick provides three keys to a Buffalo victory, including a passing game that must be up to task as it's certain KC will try to limit Buffalo's rushing attack. From there it's five bold predictions for the game including Bills fans seeing Max Hairston and not Tre White in the secondary late when the game could be hanging in the balance. Lastly, it's final score prediction time and does Patrick think the better team on paper wins or the team that always seems to play their best when regarded as the underdog? EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Spectrum News sports anchor Andy Young for a Buffalo Bills vs Kansas City Chiefs primer in advance of their huge matchup this weekend over a conversation recorded live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo. It's always a big game atmosphere when the Bills and Chiefs play and their meeting in the regular season for a fifth consecutive season. The guys cover the game and discuss both teams from every angle possible, including why it feels there's at least a little more at stake for both teams in this matchup than their normal regular season matchup, as the loser could find it very (very) difficult to win their division title let alone knock down a number one seed in the conference. They discuss some of the things going on with the Bills, including how they hope to replace Ed Oliver, Gabe Davis being moved from IR to the practice squad and what could happen at linebacker at Sunday if all the Buffalo linebackers are good to go--spoiler alert---it may not be what you think.Patrick and Andy also talk about a few reasons Bills fans should feel really good about this game despite Kansas City being favored. Bills Biggest Week 8 Takeaways (Featuring Chris Trapasso)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by popular football analyst Chris Trapasso to discuss several of their biggest takeaways from the Buffalo Bills after their Week eight shellacking of the Carolina Panthers, 40-9 to win their fifth game in seven tries and put an end to their two-game losing streak. The Bills offense was spectacular in Carolina, just not in the way most expected. The Panthers entered being pretty stingy against the run but Buffalo running back James Cook literally had a historic day rushing for the Bills, going for 216 yards in just three quarters of work--the most rushing yards by a Bill in nearly 50 years and the first time one has went over 200 yards since Fred Jackson in 2009. Chris discusses the evolution of Cook as a complete running back and the league and becoming a legitimate star.Meanwhile the Bills passing offense was pretty lousy, particularly in the first half and Chris has thoughts on what's going on with the lack of effectiveness in that area and why Josh Allen seems to be struggling. What's the biggest components? On the other side of the ball it was a nice influx of new blood that helped spark the defense to a successful day. Chris talks about Max Hairston and Jordan Hancock bringing speed and juice to the secondary while Michael Hoecht made a huge impact in his Bills debut following his six game suspension.Unfortunately this win came with a big price as star Ed Oliver tore his bicep and could potentially be done for the season. What do the Bills do to try and at least somewhat replace his production? That plus if the Bills have a linebacker controversy brewing, does Chris think Brandon Beane will make a trade(s) before the deadline next Tuesday and plenty more.Make sure to follow Chris on Twitter @ChrisTrapasso.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Live Reaction: Bills Dismantle Panthers
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for tons of live reaction not long after the Buffalo Bills went to Carolina and absolutely dismantled the Panthers, 40-9 though the win may have come at a heavy price.James Cook ran for over 200 yards and two touchdowns to pace the offense while the defensive line had an excellent afternoon to lead the defense as this game was never in doubt. The guys discuss the good, bad and ugly from it all.Beyond the game the Bills suffered a potential huge (huge, huge) blow with an Ed Oliver bicep injury that had him ruled out for the rest of the game almost immediately and the obvious fear is that it's torn. The guys have thoughts on what that means for the current roster and if it suddenly makes finding a defensive tackle in the trade market the biggest priority over wide receiver or safety. They also have a Josh Allen conversation, who had another roller coaster type game? Are they worried about him going forward or he simply in a little bit of a prolonged slump? EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a full preview of the Buffalo Bills hitting the road Sunday to take on the Carolina Panthers including three keys to a Bills victory, five bold predictions for the game and a final score prediction..The Bills return from their bye week losers of two consecutive games and try to right the ship against a pesky Carolina team that's won three in a row. Patrick gets into some of the things that have made the Panthers much improved from recent years, including a (very) strong running game spearheaded by Rico Dowdle and Chuba Hubbard and one of the best young corners in the game on defense in Jaycee Horn. As for Buffalo, Jordan Poyer could be making his first start this season at safety and Patrick examines if the offense will start using the running backs more in the passing game. From there's three keys to a Bills victory, which includes Buffalo selling out to the run and making Andy Dalton (or Bryce Young) beat them in the passing game. As always there's five bold predictions for the game and Patrick has a few good ones, including the Bills getting their first interception of the season by a cornerback and a far more disciplined team outing. Three Remedies For The Reeling Buffalo Bills
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran flips what was originally going to be a Podbag episode and turns into three primarily talking points on things that could help a Buffalo Bills team that has undoubtedly been reeling the past few weeks. The Bills won the first four games this season even though most of it wasn't pretty. Their caliber play then caught up to them in losing back to back games heading into their bye week against New England and Atlanta that has them second place in the division for the first time in what feels forever. During their slump, at least a slump by their standards several things have gone wrong. Patrick takes a few submissions submitted by listeners and turns them into equal parts talking points that can help turn around some of their biggest problems. It's been pretty obvious the Bills haven't used their running backs enough in the passing game. After doing some research Patrick's actually blown away by how underutilized it's been. He goes over a bunch of numbers from last year and compares it to this season's pace to conclude this offense would probably get a nice boost from having James Cook, Ty Johnson and Ray Davis more involved in the air game. Also, there's been a ton of Keon Coleman discourse over the past few weeks. Patrick dives into that as well and concludes that what's best for the Buffalo offense may not be best for Keon personally. That plus what's the most simple and achievable way for the defense to start playing much better as they come back from their bye and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Positional Analysis & Grades So Far This Season
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by the Matt Warren (SB Nation) to go through the Buffalo Bills positionally with analysis and grades through their bye week that has them returning to face Carolina this weekend at 4-2.Things have really shifted recently following the Bills consecutive losses to New England and Atlanta. How much of it is overreaction? How much is the typical peaks and valleys of a NFL season? How much is legitimate cause for worry? The guys discuss all that and agree on one thing---this bye week came at the perfect time. It's an opportunity for the team to reset not just physically but also mentally and perhaps even emotionally, though both guys suggest the panic level is far greater among fans than the team itself. From there, as they do every week following the guys go through the team position by position and discuss what's worked and hasn't before Matt ultimately assigns a grade for each position. One thing that becomes obvious through the process is too many talented and well paid defenders are not playing nearly to their standard and it's hurting the team. They also spend some time discussing the rest of the season, setting up this Sunday's game against a pesky Carolina team and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Sabres vs Habs Instant Reaction, Plus Bills Players With Most To Prove
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by broadcaster Steve Bermel for live reaction immediately after the conclusion of the Buffalo Sabres road tilt in Montreal in addition to going over a handful of Buffalo Bills players with the most to prove as the team comes off their bye week. After losing their first three to start the season and looking mostly lifeless in doing so, the Sabres gained momentum last week after defeating Ottawa and defending Stanley Cup champion Florida in impressive fashion. Did Buffalo go on the road to Montreal and continue to get things going in a positive direction? The guys discuss the good, bad and ugly of Buffalo's effort north of the border. Also, the Bills are now off their bye week and preparing to face the Carolina Panthers on the road Sunday, who've won three in a row. News came out Monday that Carolina starting quarterback Bryce Young has an ankle sprain and won't play this weekend against the Bills, but is that a good thing with Andy Dalton waiting in the wings? The guys discuss that as well as least four players on the roster that have the most to prove going forward for the rest of the season if Buffalo is going to shake off what's been a pretty lackluster start to the season despite carrying a 4-2 record. That plus some Bills concerns that may not bode well for the team if they're not careful and much more. Buffalo Bills Bye Week Biggest Truths
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including going over some of the biggest truths about the 2025 Buffalo Bills as they come off their bye week and get ready for Carolina. It's highly the likely the Bills have been doing a lot of looking in the mirror during last week's bye after losing their second consecutive game and rarely looking impressive in their four victories before that. Even if they haven't, Patrick and Joe are doing it for them. Among the bigger truths discussed is the offense needing Dalton Kincaid to succeed, Keon Coleman establishing himself as not much more than just another receiver, James Cook looking like a bargain, Tre White not being good but hardly the only big problem on the defense, Shaq Thompson looking like the best Bills linebacker and Deone Walker looking like the best among this year's rookie crop. They also go over the biggest things to come from a Buffalo Bills-less NFL Sunday, including Raiders wide receiver Jacobi Meyers being a healthy inactive---a strong indication he's getting traded somewhere soon. Also, the Sabres have won two in a row after losing their first three and and have been impressive in doing so. That plus Joe's Mt. Flushmore of the worst things you can do at a bar and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! The Podbag: Bills Fans Angrily Sound Off
EOn this special weekend episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran hosts an edition of The Podbag----chockfull of listener submitted questions and takes that primarily feel like a venting session from frustrated Buffalo Bills fans.Taylor Rapp, Keon Coleman, Brandon Beane, Joe Brady and Sean McDermott seem to be at the forefront of fan wrath of late, not surprising the way the Bills have looked through the majority of their first six games, including two consecutive losses heading into this weekend's much needed bye. Patrick responds to several submission and attempts to balance his frustration with optimism or at the very least, remain levelheaded.Patrick also talks about his experience doing a show for the first time at the Cheektowaga Country Club yesterday. Bills Reporter Matt Parrino Live From Cheektowaga Country Club
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Buffalo Bills beat reporter and sports media personality Matt Parrino for a Billscentric conversation recorded live from the Cheektowaga Country Club. After a 4-0 start that had a lot of people around the country talking about the Bills like they were world beaters, the team crashed back down to earth with consecutive prime time losses to New England and Atlanta. It certainly feels like the bye is coming at the perfect time for a Buffalo team that's licking their wounds both physically and mentally.Patrick opens up the panic meter on Matt by bringing up a series of topics surrounding the Bills struggles and having Matt give his analysis followed by evaluating how panicked, if at all Bills fans should be. Also, is this the least talented Bills roster since 2019? Should Brandon Beane already have buyer's remorse after his extension spree this past offseason? That and tons more with Matt. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattParrino and of course be sure to check out his work at NYup.comas well as subscribe to the Shout Buffalo Football Podcast.Huge thanks to Cheektowaga Country Club for being a gracious host. Sabres Beat Sens Live Reactions, Plus Talking Tough Week For Bills
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective from some live reactions just moments after the conclusion of the Buffalo Sabres beating th Ot Ottawa Senators to get their first win also some talk about what's become a very tough week for the Buffalo Bills. The Sabres have begun their season in nightmarish fashion with three losses in which they were outscored 11-2 and went 0-for-11 on the power play. That all changed in a huge way Wednesday night as the Sabres scored eight times, including three on the power play. The guys discuss the good, bad and ugly from Key Bank Center right after the game concludes, including a breakout performance from Josh Doan. They also spend plenty of time talking about a Bills team that felt on top of the world after four weeks but has crashed back to earth over the past two, stumbling into their much needed bye week with consecutive losses. Are the Bills being exposed as frauds or are they just going through a bad stretch like they seem to do every season around this time? Is what's wrong with this team fixable internally and if not, will they do something about it via the trade market The guys have a bunch of opinions on that and much more. You can follow PK on Twitter @PK_BSC and check out the Buffalo Sports Collective podcast. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Week Six Positional Analysis & Grades, Is Buffalo Getting Exposed?
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to go over the Buffalo Bills positionally and assign grades following their second consecutive prime time loss where it feels like the wheels may be coming off, this time falling in Atlanta to the Falcons, 24-14.It was a tale of two halves between the defense stinking up the stadium in the first half and the offense following suit in the second half that almost made this feel like two Buffalo losses within the same game. Like they've done all season, Patrick and Matt go through the roster and discuss what's going on and how they looked position by position and to be honest---it's very hard to find silver linings in a truly ugly loss other than the play of fourth-round rookie Deone Walker. And unlike a lot of other Buffalo losses and team shortcomings, this time Josh Allen deserves plenty of criticism for his play as well. Clearly the past few weeks have shown that there's something off with Allen's game right now and the guys do their best to try and figure out exactly what that is.Also, instead of this game being an indictment on just the players (which it also certainly was), the guys have a discussion about the coaching situation that is getting bad enough that it's fair to wonder if Sean McDermott does something about it as the Bills get started with their much needed bye week. Lastly, does Brandon Beane have the motivation to make a trade or two to try and fortify this roster for a stretch run, or is he going to bank on them simply playing better---a decision the guys and probably most of you would consider a big mistake. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills vs Falcons MNF Instant Live Reaction
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for instant live reactions just moments following the Buffalo Bills losing on the road to the Atlanta Falcon, 24-14 on Monday Night Football. In dropping their second consecutive game, Joe explains why between the putrid performance from the defense in the first half and the mistake littered job by the offense in the second half, it almost felt like two separate losses in one night.Patrick goes all in on Joe Brady after the Bills offensive coordinator inexcusably failed to have James Cook on the field for two critical short yardage plays. He and Joe also don't absolve Josh Allen for having a very sub par game by his MVP standards. The Bills go into the bye in desperate need of getting physically healthy and mentally resetting. They guys also spend some time talking about the Buffalo Sabres, who yet again are off to a woeful start, losing their straight to start the season on Monday and have been outscored, 11-2 in those games with a power play that's went 0-for-11. Sabres Embarrassed On Opening Night - Live Reactions (Plus Bills Talk)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chris Ostrander (Two in the Box) for live instant reactions just minutes following the conclusion of the Buffalo Sabres regular season opening shutout against the New York Rangers, 4-0 in a game made even worse by a potential significant injury to one of their best players. iThe Sabres are desperately trying to put an end to their historic 14-year NHL playoff drought. Things got off to a very ominous start after getting shutout on their home ice in a game they had to play without Owen Power (illness) and Zack Benson (face injury). Star center Josh Norris who unfortunately has had his career marred by injuries, left in the third period with an "upper body" injury sustained on a faceoff and didn't return. The guys have plenty to say about this season debut stinker that saw very few bright spots beyond goaltender Alex Lyon and new forward Josh Doan. In fact, it took Chris just one game to get (very) down on forward Jack Quinn, who often looked aimless out there. They also talk about a lack of energy at the Key Bank Center, both from the skaters to the crowd in attendance. Also, the Bills are in preparation for a Monday night game in Atlanta against the Falcons before hitting their bye week. The guys talk about some of the injuries, the lack of real help from the past two rookie classes to this point and what Brandon Beane may do at cornerback if anything before the NFL trade deadline. That and plenty more.Be sure to follow Chris on X at @2ITB_Buffalo and check out the Two in the Box blog in addition to the Instigator Podcast. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Buffalo Sabres 2025-26 Preview & Predictions (Featuring Mike Harrington)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a full Buffalo Sabres 2025-26 season preview that features longtime Buffalo News Sabres reporter and columnist Mike Harrington. It certainly sounds like a broken record saying this as the Sabres have been in a playoff drought for the past 14 years, but this wholeheartedly feels like a make-or-break season for the foundation of this current era of Sabres hockey. Both general manager Kevyn Adams and head coach Lindy Ruff are in the final year of their deals and it's prudent that this team finally finds a postseason that's alluded them since a lot of younger fans have even started following Sabres hockey. Harrington sheds plenty to what's at stake both on and off the ice this time around and has opinions on the shape of a roster that many think had an uneventful summer of roster personnel moves.Harrington also discusses why an Alex Tuch extension hasn't been reached as of this recording and what that could mean going into this regular season. Also, how much can we rely on Josh Norris staying healthy? The Sabres certainly are. Also, is Zach Benson ready for an increased role? Can Alex Lyon hold things down in net until UPL is back and possibly beyond? How much grace is Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin ready to give management if things once again go south this season?Plus, Mike talks about the addition of Rachel Lenzi to the Sabres coverage team alongside him at The Buffalo News, a little Bills talk and plenty more. Bills Week Five Positional Analysis & Grades, Plus Looking Towards Atlanta
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation for his weekly appearance to discuss the Buffalo Bills positionally and evaluate them with grades based on their performance in their Week five loss to the New England Patriots.Buffalo suffered their first loss of the season this past Sunday and it was a home loss in prime time to a divisional rival to make matters worse. How do the guys the guys think Buffalo's feeling a few days later? They discuss that and then get into their weekly breakdown of how the team looked position by position. It's definitely a far cry from most weeks when nearly every position on the team has received honor roll worthy grades. How much does Josh Allen get dinged for some mistakes---some that show up in the box score and some that don't?Defensively things get dicey to evaluate and grade because on one hand they kept Buffalo in the game through the first half when the offense totally sputtered. However, as the offense got going after halftime the defense started to struggle like it has a lot of the season. How big is the Bills secondary problem and is Tre White receiving TOO much blame? They also take a look at Buffalo's next opponent, Atlanta, their last before a bye week that could prove useful. That plus a look around the league in a week that saw both Baltimore and Kansas City lose again and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Biggest Post Film Week Five Takeaways (Oof)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over all of his biggest takeaways after watching the film back from the Buffalo Bills first loss of the season, 23-20 against the New England Patriots Sunday night at Highmark Stadium. On a night where the defense gave up plays but still did enough to win, it was the offense that was uncharacteristically mistake prone and a big reason the Bills suffered their first loss. Three turnovers and numerous physical and mental gaffes handcuffed them most the night and Patrick goes over a lot of what he saw, including pointing out a handful of Josh Allen mistakes he doesn't typically make. Also, Khalil Shakir is one of the most sound players on the team but had a few costly errors himself. On the defensive side of the ball, the secondary is officially a mess. Tre White needs to be replaced and it doesn't take film to arrive to that conclusion. However, Patrick points out numerous incidents of poor safety play and particularly from Taylor Rapp, who's been a borderline eye sore for the defense this seasons. Also, are Christian Benford and Taron Johnson regressing this season They certainly didn't look good Sunday night.Patrick also talks about how the Bills coordinating, coaching and overall preparation did them no favors as they looked flat early on and often disorganized not to mention highly undisciplined. That plus full props to Stefon Diggs and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Own Worst Enemy In First Loss (Instant Live Reactions)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for instant live reaction just moments after the conclusions of the Buffalo Bills losing their first game of the season, 23-20 to the New England Patriots at Highmark Stadium under the lights of Sunday night football. To say it was an uncharacteristic loss for the Bills was an understatement, particularly on offense. Josh Allen accounted for over 300 yards and two touchdowns but the offense committed three turnovers, two lost fumbles by non-running backs and a very bad interception from Allen in the third quarter that ultimately proved costly. They also only averaged 4.1 yards rushing and James Cook was bottled up for just 49 yards on 15 carries. The defense was good and kept the Bills in the game all night for sure but weren't without flaws themselves, particularly a secondary that allowed Stefon Diggs to absolutely cook them to the tune of 10 catches for 146 yards. They sacked Drake Maye four times but Daquan Jones couldn't pull him down on what proved to be a crucial play to help the Patriots win.The guys have a ton of takes in real time just minutes after to discuss all the good, bad and ugly from this annoying but frankly, kind of overdue first Buffalo loss.Additionally, Joe has his weekly Mt. Flushmore, this time highlighting/lowlighting the worst prime time moments in Highmark Stadium history. That and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills vs Patriots Week Five Preview & Bold Predictions
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran previews the exciting Sunday night football Week five matchup between the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots at Highmark Stadium in addition to his three keys to a Bills victory, five game bold predictions and a stab at nailing the final score.Buffalo is the last remaining undefeated team in the AFC and just one of two left in the league. They should expect a stiff test from a 2-2 Patriots team with plenty to prove and is excited for the opportunity to come to Orchard Park and knock off the powerhouse Bills. They better because if the Bills win this game the AFC east will be all but locked up before we hit Columbus Day.Patrick takes a look at the strengths and weakness of both teams coming in and a potential good vs good matchup as the Bills running game is the best in football while New England's one of the best at stopping in. He then outlines three big keys to a Bills victory including being able to shut down New England's reigning AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, who decimated Carolina last week on punt returns. As always, Patrick offers five bold predictions for the game and one of them has Ty Johnson, who's done basically nothing for the Buffalo offense this season finding his way to the end. Before leaving Patrick gives his final score prediction. Will the Bills cover the 7.5 spread? That and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! What's Up With Greg Rousseau? (Plus, Sabres Preseason Home Finale)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by broadcaster Steve Bermel to talk both Buffalo Bills and Sabres, including discussing why defensive edge Greg Rousseau's not making any impact for the Bills early in addition to how the Sabres are looking just one week before the NHL season begins.Prefacing as usual by saying it feels kinda lame to overly criticize and nitpick the Bills when they're 4-0 and already the last remaining unbeaten team in their conference, there's still plenty of room for improvement and particularly on the defense side of the ball. Perhaps that starts with Rousseau, who signed a four-year, $80 million extension this offseason but has been almost eerily quiet on the stat sheet through his first four games, picking up just eight tackles with 0.5 sacks and zero tackles for a loss. Watching the tape it doesn't show that Groot's necessarily playing "bad" perse, but he's certainly not having the impact everyone expected him to give out there so far. Also three key Bills veterans were limited practice participants on Wednesday after missing last Sunday's win over New Orleans. Matt Milano, Ed Oliver and Spencer Brown were all on the field and the discuss what they saw from limited clips and a sense of how they think things will play out this week.On the hockey side, Buffalo hosted Pittsburgh in their final home preseason tilt just before the recording of this podcast. The guys discuss what they saw from the game, what they've seen from the team recently, how much if at all are they concerned about a few injuries and plenty more.Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Buffalo Bills Week Four Grades, Plus A Look Towards The Patriots
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation for their weekly chat about several topics, including their analysis and grades positionally for the Buffalo Bills from their Week four win over New Orleans as well as their next opponent, a prime time divisional matchup against New England. It felt like a mixed bag of performances for the Bills this past Sunday against a Saints team many thought Buffalo would completely roll over. That didn't happen and resulted in plenty of criticisms from fans, content and creators and the media over the past few days. How much of that does Matt agree with? Will he be generous with the grades at some hot topic positions like defensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback and heck----the entire defense? Plus, what did he think of the coaching game plan and play calling execution? They then take a look at a New England Patriots team that is 2-2 on the season and in Patrick's opinion anyway is clearly the second-best team in the division and the biggest "threat" to the Bills. It could be interesting come Sunday night, as Buffalo's potent rushing attack will face a New England defense that's been one of the best run defenses in the league through the first month of the season. That plus are the Ravens in big trouble, are the Chiefs all the way back, will the Bengals be able to hold on until late in the regular season when Joe Burrow returns and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Post Film Biggest Takeaways From Week Four Win
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over several of his biggest takeaways after spending time watching back the film from the Buffalo Bills 31-19 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at Highmark Stadium to earn their fourth consecutive win to start the season. It was a mixed bag for the Bills on Sunday as it usually is, plenty of good things to highlight as well as bad to criticize but of course it's always most important to remember that winning in the NFL is never easy and the Bills have now done so four times without a loss and in doing so are the only remaining undefeated team in the AFC.This episode's always a favorite for Patrick because unlike the immediate instant live reaction shows that follow games, there's an opportunity to sleep on some thoughts to remove some instant emotion and more importantly spend hours the next day going through the film and seeing what your gut instinct was right and wrong about. A few things Patrick immediately acknowledges and discusses that differ from the live postgame show is not giving enough credit to Cole Bishop for his interception near the end of the first half and being far too critical initially on right tackle Ryan Van Demark and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones. Not a lot of time is spent talking about the offense because they were their usual stellar self, but the defense and in particular the run defense remains ghastly. Patrick points out several instances from the film that between missed tackles, being out of position and just not winning their reps was at times hard to watch.Speaking of, Patrick saves his biggest criticism for linebacker Dorian Williams, who had perhaps the worst game of his career. That's discussed and plenty more including how Curtis Samuel's return effected the offense and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Make Things Hard Versus Big Easy (Live Reactions)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for plenty of live reaction not long after the Buffalo Bills had way more ugly moments than desired but still beat the New Orleans Saints, 31-19 to remain undefeated through four weeks. There's plenty of things to conversate about both good and bad. Patrick and Joe don't usually agree on much but one thing feels universally apparent about a month into the season---the offense scoring 30+ points per game and the defense playing pretty bad feel equally sustainable. Add them up and it's making for what should be an absolute roller coaster of the season.Of course the ultimate factor is always the scoreboard. The Bills are 4--0 and did more than enough to win. The guys talk about how James Cook continues to emerge into not just a good player, but a superstar in this league. Cook ran for 117 yards and a touchdown and has run for over 100 yards in three straight weeks.Josh Allen obviously had a good game and Khalil Shakir did damage on offense, while rookie Deone Walker continued to impress on defense. It wasn't all pretty and the guys run down several players who were not good---including Dorian Williams, Tre White (who got benched for parts of the day) and Taylor Rapp.Again though, all that matters is the Bills are undefeated heading into Week five against New England in prime time. That and plenty more including Joe's Mt. Flushmore. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills vs Saints Preview & Bold Predictions
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a preview of the Buffalo Bills week four tilt against the New Orleans Saints at Highmark Stadium this coming Sunday, including keys to the game for Buffalo, five bold predictions and a stab at the final score. The Saints have won four straight in Orchard Park and haven't lost to the Bills on the road since 1983. Spoiler alert--that's highly likely to change. Buffalo comes into this game at least 15.5 point favorites and a little more on other betting sites for good reasons. The Bills are undefeated and one of if not the most complete team in the NFL whereas New Orleans comes stumbling in winless, with a "shaky" quarterback situation and no real team identity.Patrick spends some time catching Buffalo fans up to the Saints, the good, bad (plenty) and ugly (also plenty). That said, this is the NFL and anything can happen and Patrick runs down three keys for the Bills ensuring they stay undefeated heading into a prime time divisional home game matchup against New England the following week.Five bold predictions for the games are also offered, including an old veteran getting an interception, a breakout game for a defender who should've already had one by now and a good game ins tore for a depth skilled position player. That plus we all know Patrick's not picking against the Bills when they're playing the Saints---but does he like Buffalo to cover the spread? That and plenty more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! You can purchase t shirts, hoodies, zip ups, crewnecks and polos in a couple of different styles and colors. Lowkey Components Of The Bills Hot Start (Sabres Hot Early Too)
EOn today's Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by broadcaster Steve Bermel to talk plenty of Buffalo Bills and a little Buffalo Sabres too, including discussing a few factors a bit under the radar that've helped allow the Bills to get off to another great start. You couldn't have written the script much better for the Bills to start the season, beginning with a perfect 3-0 record that includes a huge win over Baltimore that could prove valuable come on the end of the regular season. They''ve done it by scoring at least 30 points in all three games while continuing to get key takeaways on defense that helps make up for the unit being so leaky. The guys discuss three factors on why this team remains so good, from an offensive line that never does and probably never will get the league-wide credit it deserves, an unselfish team-first attitude that starts with the MVP quarterback and the "Everybody Eats' mantra living on so they don't live in fear of a No. 1 wide receiver going down that could wreck their offense. They also spend some time talking about the Bills complex injury situation. Ed Oliver and Matt Milano continue to make progress per Sean McDermott, but does Sean hold them out even if they're near 100% seeing that they're playing the Saints at home on Sunday? How about Spencer Brown, who didn't practice on Wednesday with a calf injury. They also talk about the latest news, potentially significant concerning first round pick Max Hairston's ongoing recovery from his training camp knee injury.Across town, the Sabres have won their first two preseason games and meaningless or not, they've looked pretty good in doing so twice against Columbus. The guys talk about a few things they've liked very early on from Buffalo in training camp and the preseason and go over a few things they're hoping to see as they go into the regular season soon and try to end their 14-year drought. That and much more.Follow Steve on Twitter @SteveBurmel.The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Positional Grades & Analysis, Plus A Look At The Saints
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren (SB Nation) to go over the Buffalo Bills positionally and assign a grade from their Week three performance last week against Miami before taking a look at Buffalo's next opponent, winless New Orleans. As they're doing throughout the season, Matt and Patrick are converging to analyze the Bills position-by-position and come up with a letter grade for how each group looked the game before. This week's a little "overdue" because the Bills played last Thursday, but there's still plenty of interesting talking points to hit on with this game. How do you grade Josh Allen on a night where he threw for three touchdowns without a turnover but wasn't necessarily at his best? How about the cornerbacks, who looked strong against the run but gave up some plays in the passing game? Did the Bills prepare well for Miami or did they get a bit lucky? The guys go over all. Also, it's hard to fathom the Bills not beating New Orleans this Sunday no matter how hard you try, but the guys take a look at the Saints and come up with a few things that Buffalo could get hurt by if not careful. They also take a look around the league at some of the bigger happenings from the rest of Week three and talk about a pivotal Week four matchup between Baltimore and Kansas City plus much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Why We Should Care The Sabres Are Back (Plus, Bills Talk)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by blogger and podcaster Chris Ostrander to talk Buffalo Bills and Sabres topics, including why we should even care that the Sabres are back in action with four preseason games slated for this week. It's not easy to get those who aren't already diehard Sabres fans to care a great deal that training camp and the preseason has commenced, especially considering how bad they've been for so long and not having the most eventful summer of transactions, not to mention it's still September and the Bills are off to a fantastic start. But there's definitely reasons that all Sabres fans should care, even if they're currently disenfranchised with the current product. As the guys talk about for starters, there's an awful lot at stake for this organization, none so more than the danger that a 15th straight season of no playoffs could result in the fans that've been hanging on by a thread with supporting the team finally saying that's enough and letting go. Even if they dont, as Chris explains another bad season almost certainly means the organization will start over yet again, with a new coach and a new general manager, which almost always leads to huge roster turnover as well. Could another terrible season force guys like Rasmus Dahlin, Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch to want out? Heck, in Tuch's case is all this a reason he hasn't signed an extension already?Moving to the football side things couldn't have started better for the Bills as they're 3-0 and already have a commanding lead in the AFC east. Their sixth straight division title already looks like a formality but the guys talk about that hardly being the goal. The Bills have to be considered the favorites right now to end up the top seed in the AFC---the guys go through the rest of their schedule and conclude it's not really that daunting to finish as a team that wins at least 13-14 games. That plus a chat on if the media, content creators and fans are unfairly critical of a team that's undefeated to start the season and much more. What We're Learning About The 3-0 Buffalo Bills
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several Buffalo Bills and other topics, including a look at some of things being learned by the Bills in the midst of their 3-0 start to the season.Among them is the early conclusion that the 2025 Buffalo Bills look and feel an awful lot like the 2024 Buffalo Bills, which considering they were a few executed plays away from reaching the Super Bowl is a good thing. The offense is being spearheaded of course by Josh Allen, who just continues to take his game both physically and mentally to another level. Meanwhile James Cook has been excellent as has the offensive line. The other side of the ball has been far more nuanced, which again much like last year has struggled to get off the field on third downs in two of their three games but have successfully (through this point anyway) relied on key takeaways to strongly influence the outcome of games. They also discuss why the additions of Michael Hoehct and Larry Ogunjobi will be very much welcomed, in part because Buffalo is getting very little from their edge rushers not named Joey Bosa and defensive tackles not named Ed Oliver.Patrick also reads off several listener submitted questions and takes for the guys to discuss plus much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Biggest Week Three Takeaways (Weekend Bonus Episode)
EOn this bonus weekend episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is going over his biggest takeaways after watching the game back on film from the Buffalo Bills 31-21 Week three victory over the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium on Thursday night football.Sticking with the usual format for the season, Patrick drops all his big takeaways after pouring over the stats, watching back some of the film and perhaps most importantly, sleeping on it to have new perspective the next day as opposed to the instant live reaction shows that immediately follow the game.Obviously there's plenty to like and Patrick points out a lot of things including Josh Allen's ability to not turn the ball over almost being taken for granted, James Cook continuing to emerge as a star, the offensive line shining yet again and a defense that stunk for a lot of the game but as they usually do, turn up when they absolutely need to and get a game-impacting takeaway.3-0 is nice and clearly that's what matters most, but it's not all love from Patrick with what he saw Thursday night. He talks about a defense that couldn't get off the field on third down, a defensive line that minus rookie Deone Walker was almost a complete no show, a wide receiving group that's not getting any long plays down the field and perhaps some unrealistic expectations fans and media have on the team that'll make a 10 point victory over a division rival feel less than stellar. That and plenty more today---happy weekend! The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Bills Survive Dolphins (Week 3 Instant Live Reactions)
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for plenty of instant live reaction just moments following the conclusion of the Buffalo Bills defeating the Miami Dolphins, 31-21 to win their third straight game to start the season. It wasn't pretty by any means, especially on defense but the Bills continue to find a way. The guys go over James Cook again pacing the offense in the running game while Josh Allen threw for three more touchdowns and still doesn't have an interception on the season. Speaking of picks, Tua's late in the fourth quarter to Terrel Bernard proved to be the pivotal point of the game. The guys discuss how Tua's lone real mistake and a horrible roughing the punter penalty by Miami's best interior defensive lineman helped seal their doom on a night they gave Buffalo plenty to worry about. While there's plenty to like including Buffalo winning the turnover battle for a NFL all-time record 25th consecutive time, there's also things to worry about and some are discussed--including an anemic defensive line pass rush and the inability to get the passing game going down the field.Additionally, Joe also has a Mt. Flushmore featuring his worst Bills memories of the entire Buffalo vs Miami rivlalry. That and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live! Matt Parrino & Marcel Louis-Jacques Talk Bills vs Miami (LIVE From Sonny Red's)
EOn this special episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by former Buffalo Bills and current ESPN Miami Dolphins beat reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques and Bills beat reporter Matt Parrino to preview Bills vs Miami, talk sports, media and much more in a conversation recorded live at Sonny Red's in Lackawanna.Louis-Jacques covered the Bills (wonderfully) for two seasons in 2019-20 and in the process became one of the area's most well liked reporters before leaving for ESPN to cover the Dolphins in September 2021. He's back in town to cover the Thursday night game. He joins Parrino, one of the area's most established reporters and multimedia personalities to cover components from this Week three matchup from both perspectives. The Bills are expected to run through the Dolphins, who are 0-2 and appear to be an absolute mess both on and off the field. Buffalo is favored by 12.5 points--an astronomical number considering how early it is in the season, that it's a divisional matchup and that they'll be playing without two defensive stalwarts in Ed Oliver and Milano. But games are won on the field as opposed to paper and this is the NFL where anything can happen--the guys talk about what Buffalo and Miami need to do respectively to pull out a victory. Patrick also goes over his weekly bold predictions for the game and drags Marcel and Matt into making a few of their own. They also spend some time talking how life's been in Miami for Marcel over the past few years, a few sports media topics and much more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattParrino and of course be sure to check out his work at NYup.com as well as subscribe to the Shout Buffalo Football Podcast. Bills Positional Week Two Grades, Plus Looking Forward To Miami
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to go through the Buffalo Bills week two grades, positionally following their lopsided win over the New York Jets in addition to discussing other team matters, taking a look at the Miami Dolphins and discussing some things going on around the league. The Bills are now a few days removed from easily putting away the Jets on the road this past Sunday, 30-10. As they did last week and will for the duration of the season, Patrick and Matt go through the Bills roster positionally to discuss how they performed before ultimately assigning a grade to that group for the week. As you'd suspect in a 20 point road win the highest marks are going to come in the trenches, as Buffalo was excellent on both sides of the line. They also played dramatically better at a position that's been a huge concern this season (safety) and for good reason. Was this start of something good on the back end or the product of playing a very week passing attack offense?Conversely, the Bills didn't get a whole lot from Josh Allen, at least by his standards anyway but the thing is----they literally didn't need it. Josh's numbers weren't the least bit gaudy but in fairnes he didn't have a single turnover worthy play either. How much does Matt ding Allen for the pedestrian box score stat line? They also take a look at an 0-2 Miami team coming to Buffalo on Thursday night. Are we going to see a Dolphins team that plays like their lives depend on it, or are we going to see the version that's ready to quit on their head coach if not quarterback as well, if they haven't already? That plus some things from around the NFL and much more. The Talking Buffalo online merch store is now live!
