Among the topics hit on is Josh Allen having one more level of growth to reach, Gabriel Davis making John Brown more expendable this offseason and tight end remaining an annual offseason significant need for the Bills. Ryan’s insight focuses heavily on what the Bills offensive and defensive lines look like right now and what may change this offseason to address them. Ep 289Kris Baker, Sabres Prospects
EPatrick Moran talks with recurring guest Kris Baker from Sabres Prospects about a variety of topics focused both on the Sabres and Buffalo Bills. The Sabres are at least staying afloat in a shortened season through their first 10 games but it hasn’t been pretty. Kris has insight as to why the team is struggling so much five on five, Carter Hutton being lousy in net, several skaters to find production and Jack Eichel not playing great despite stats that suggest otherwise. They also spend plenty of time discussing the Bills, including what’s likely to be a big dilemma on if the Bills will have the ability to re-sign Matt Milano and Darryl Williams. Both guys are prominent players important to the present and future of the organization but salary cap issues is almost sure to derail at least one of them returning. They also add a little to the Josh Allen vs Deshaun Watson “who’s better” nonsense floating around Twitter, the possibility of acquiring Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt and much ore.Follow Kris on Twitter @SabresProspects. Ep 288Brandon Beane Reactioncast With Joe
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast presented by 26 Shirts, the Buffalo Bills season has ended and general manager Brandon Beane conducted a press conference via Zoom this week that went well over. Patrick Moran and recurring guest/friend Joe from NYC (@BuffaloWins) react to several of Beane’s talking points and much more. For the most part Beane was pretty transparent during his meeting with the media when it came to several team matters, including how he feels about re-signing Matt Milano, not being as aggressive in free agency as the past few years with re-signings being a priority, needing more from the running back position, tight ends not being a threat to defenses and the defensive line being a light this season. The guys break down all those points and more and that predictably results in disagreements, especially when it comes to Patrick’s take on running back Devin Singletary. Joe also explains why he’s adamant that the Bills should be spending the vast majority of the resources on the offensive side of the ball despite the team ranking second in the NFL in both scoring and yardage this season. They also spend time catching up as Patrick points out this is Joe’s milestone 50th time appearing on Talking Buffalo Podcast. Before the segment Joe gets off nuclear takes on former President Donald Trump. Buffalo traveled to Kansas City for the AFC championship game and the wheels finally fell off their magical season. Patrick and Joe discuss everything that went wrong, ranging from Sean McDermott’s rare cowardice coaching decisions to Josh Allen struggling alongside an offense that gave him little help and a defense that quite frankly had an embarrassing performance. That said, the guys discuss how successful the 2020 Buffalo Bills season was in totality. They briefly examine why the franchise is set up well for the future and spend time reflecting on how this year’s success helped bring joy, bonding and hope during a time when fans need positivity in their life now more than ever. The guys discuss many topics including what it will take for the Bills to win, what they need to do differently than the first time they played them in Orchard Park in Week six, why we shouldn’t read too much in that game and why it appears the Bills have went from NFL media darlings to near afterthought this week. Ep 285David Tilton (Buffalo Fantatics) Talks Bills Going To AFC Championship
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by David Tilton from Buffalo Fanatics and the focus is squarely on the Buffalo Bills advancing to the AFC championship game this week after defeating Baltimore last Saturday night. The Bills defense was the story Saturday night as they stifled Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense en route to a 17-3 divisional round playoff victory, highlighted by Taron Johnson’s 101-yard interception return for a touchdown to finally break open a tight game. The guys break down everything from Saturday, including Stefon Diggs being the best player on the field for either team, Josh Allen getting it done without needing to look spectacular and a defense that looked terrible for most of one drive and then tightened up the rest of the way, including knocking Jackson out of the game with a concussion near the end of the third quarter. They also hit on some guys who had some key roles that may not have gotten enough recognition, including Levi Wallace, John Brown and the Bills offensive line. They then turn their attention towards Kansas City and start to glimpse on a conference title matchup most fans and media have been wanting to see. Counting the playoffs the Chiefs are 16-1 including a nine-point win over Buffalo earlier this season, but Kansas City has looked very beatable in a lot of games. The guys also spend a few minutes talking about David’s YouTube live show he does with co-shot Steve Mathes twice-weekly on the Buffalo Fanatics brand. You can follow David on Twitter at @TiltMoney and subscribe to the Air Raid Hour on the BF Youtube Channel.Follow Patrick on Twitter @PatMoranTweetsfor news on upcoming guests, contests and much more.♦♦♦♦♦Make sure you subscribe to theTalking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel, which includes EXCLUSIVE audio content you won’t find anywhere else as well as highlight clips from current and past podcast episodes.♦♦♦♦♦THANKS TO OUR SHOW SUPPORTERS Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 284“Maniac” Zach Sheldon, Trainwreck Sports
EOn this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by “Maniac” Zach Sheldon from Trainwreck Sports to talk about a variety of topics centered around the Buffalo Bills playoff game Saturday night against Baltimore. The Bills are set to host the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC divisional round Saturday night in Orchard Park and it becomes clear quickly that Maniac’s more confident in the Bills advancing than Patrick. He points out getting over the hump against the Colts without playing particularly well last week as a reason for his confidence while Patrick discusses the Ravens running attack as the primary biggest reason for his fears. They both agree that Josh Allen performing well on a big stage last week bodes well for Buffalo and eventually both guys settle on a game prediction Buffalo fans will enjoy hearing. They also spend a few minutes talking Sabres hockey and Maniac projects what he thinks Buffalo’s floor and ceiling is likely to be for this season. Meanwhile Patrick takes a shot at hockey analytical experts and worries that Thursday’s season opener could be the first of Jack Eichel’s final 56 games with the organization. The guys also spend time talking Trainwreck Sports and Maniac discusses some of the fantastic guests they’ve had on their show recently as well as a discussion on the city of Buffalo and what the Bills success has meant to it, particularly during these trying times with Covid-19. The guys break down a game that in a lot of ways after discussing feels like Buffalo should’ve lost. Joe also chimes in on what the general vibe’s been in Western New York or late as the region has been starving for moments like this for a long time. Barring Covid-19 setbacks the Sabres are also scheduled to take the ice on Thursday for a regular season game for the first time since last March. Joe has a nice little preview of the team including examining what in the world is going on with Jeff Skinner and his seemingly diminished role under head coach Ralph Krueger. All this and much more. On the field Jaret Patterson made an instant impact at UB, rushing for more than 1,000 yards and winning MAC Freshman of the Year honors. In 2019 as a sophomore Patterson shattered the school record book, rushing for 1,799 yards and 23 touchdowns. He came into this season on several Heisman and Doak Walker watch lists and through three games in 2020 it’s evident why—highlighted by a school-record 301 rushing yards (along with four touchdowns) last week in a victory over Bowling Green. Jaret also discusses his experience of playing in the Bahamas last year, his team and individual goals, his dream of playing in the NFL someday, favorite wing spots in Buffalo and a Fun Fact Finale highlighting tons of Jaret’s favorite things. Ep 272Greg Tompsett (Cover 1) Talks Bills & NFL Takeaways From Bye Week
EOn this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a chat with Cover 1 Buffalo podcast co-host Greg Tompsett focused on the Buffalo Bills and a spin around the NFL slate during the Bills bye weekend, a series of results that played favorably to Buffalo. The Miami Dolphins had a great opportunity to catch the Buffalo Bills atop the AFC East, but fell at Denver to the Broncos. In that game rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was benched by head coach in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick, who threw an interception in the end zone to seal a Denver victory. Greg has thoughts on if Miami head coach Brian Flores made the right move and what it may mean going forward. Plus, are the Dolphins sort of overrated? New England also reached life support status on their 2020 season after suffering their sixth loss on Sunday against Houston, while the New York Jets were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention after a tenth consecutive loss to start the season. They also skim through the rest of this past weekend’s slate, including Patrick Mahomes showing why he’s the game’s best player, Joey Burrow’s season coming to a horrifically painful end, the Steelers continuing their undefeated streak, the Baltimore Ravens showing signs of falling apart and much more. Patrick and Greg also take a peak into Sunday’s Buffalo game against the Los Angeles Chargers, including the incredible season Chargers rookie quarterback Justin Herbert is having. They also have a discussion about how Greg handled the bye week, his attitude towards his live podcast immediately following games and how it can often be therapeutic, his positive outlook towards living life and much more. Before the interview with Greg, Patrick opens the podcast by telling a story of what he considers the most exciting football game he’s ever seen in person last weekend, a game that ultimately involved his son’s final high school football career—a contest between two high octane offenses that resulted in well over 1,000 yards of total offense and 105 total points scored. Ep 271The Yay Or Nay Episode
EOn this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a chat with recurring guest and friend Joe From NYC and debuts a new podcast segment called “Yay or Nay.” Patrick reads off a bunch of statements involving sports, pop culture and even political (sorry folks) and for each the guys will give it a yay (agree) or nay (disagree) and explain their reasons why. Among the Buffalo sports topics covered is the shocking loss last week in Arizona, Josh Allen’s place among the NFL MVP race, ranking the Stefon Diggs deal last spring among the Bills best trades ever and the apparent redemption of both A.J. Klein and Tyler Bass. They also examine the Buffalo Sabres new retro jersey, The Shield’s place among the best stables in WWE history and if Alex Trebek is the greatest TV game show host of all time. There’s also some heated political takes in this episode, including New York governor Andrew Cuomo’s recent tone and the fear of a Presidential election being overturned. Ep 270Putting Bills First 10 Games In Perspective
EOn this championship caliber edition of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a chat with friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn, co-host of the Cover 1 Buffalo podcast on the Buffalo Bills heartbreaking loss in Arizona on Sunday with a focus on the big picture as Buffalo heads into their bye week sitting atop the AFC east at 7-3. Going beyond the obvious DeAndre Hopkins improbable game-winning snatch over three Bills defenders on the last offensive play of the game, Patrick and Aaron discuss several reasons why Buffalo lost on Sunday and why the game shouldn’t have come down to the final play or drive including takes on the Bills interior defensive line again struggling badly, Josh Allen having one of his “floor” games compared to most his MVP discussion worthy season, the Bills running game remaining a non-factor and a talented tight end that continues to hurt the team more than help it. Aaron shares plenty of thoughts on Ed Oliver not making impact plays but still doing his job reasonably well, Vernon Butler’s struggles and a semi-defense of Dawson Knox. The guys also spend time discussing the big picture as the bye comes at the perfect time for Buffalo, not just for giving them a chance to get the stench of this gut wrenching away from them but also a chance for several key players to heal more and get healthier. They also discuss the Miami Dolphins and how much of a factor they’ll be in the divisional race down the stretch. Patrick also shares a story about a recent experience at a Florida outdoor bar where he was called explicit words for wearing a mask to the bathroom. You can follow Aaron on Twitter @AaronQuinn716 and be sure to check out the Cover 1 Buffalo Podcast with Aaron and Greg Tompsett, twice weekly including a live Bills show following games. Ep 269Kris Baker Talks Bills, Pop Culture References, The Masters & More
EOn this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a chat with recurring guest and buddy Kris Baker revolving around the Buffalo Bills sitting at 7-2, leading to a fun exercise of pop culture references highlighting the last time the Bills were in this position back in 1993. What femme fatale was Drew Barrymore portraying the last time the Bills won seven of their first nine games? What movie starring Charlie Sheen and Keifer Sutherland reigned at the box office? What iconic sitcom was battling for the top of the Nielsen TV ratings? What great cop TV was in its infancy? What mainstream diva had two songs on the Billboard Top 10 at the same time? All these and more are discussed during this episode. They also spend some time discussing the Masters going on this week instead of April because of Covid and Tiger Woods’ incredibly promising opening round. Bonus fun fact; Kris has FORTY SIX Fan Duel golf lineups for this tournament. Before that, Patrick opens by commenting on the recent passing of iconic TV game show host Alex Trebek as well as the ongoing incredible generosity of the BillsMafia fan base when it comes to charitable actions. Ep 268Anthony Marino, Buffalo Rumblings
EOn this episode of the championship caliber Talking Buffalo Podcast presented by 26 Shirts, Patrick Moran is joined by writer and podcast host at Buffalo Rumblings, Anthony Marino to discuss a barrage of Buffalo Bills topics on the heels of their most impressive victory of the season over Seattle this past Sunday. Patrick speaks of generally trying to remain subdued and remain even keel following Bills games win or lose, but he doesn’t even try to act anything but excited about Buffalo handed Seattle a double digit loss. The guys spend a good amount of time discussing the architect of the 44 point onslaught on Seattle’s overmatched defense, Josh Allen. They conclude Allen was physically unstoppable on Sunday and more than halfway through the regular season Allen forced himself right back into the league MVP conversation. Of course, he’s not doing it by himself and the guys examine how big of an impact Stefon Diggs has been to Allen’s development as well as a closer-to-healthy John Brown, who Patrick says had the play of the game in Sunday’s victory. Patrick and Anthony also talk about how the defense seems to be back on track after a very disappointing first six weeks of the season, particularly Jerry Hughes as well as Tremaine Edmunds having easily his best game of the season. Patrick also fesses up to owing A.J. Klein a huge apology after the embattled linebacker was dominant against Seattle. They also warn that Buffalo’s journey to the finish line atop the AFC East is not likely to be the cruise it feels like right now, and they also spend some time talking about Anthony’s background, when he became a Bills fans and his Breaking Buffalo Rumblings podcast. The guys go through the team by position and Aaron offers detailed insight to each before assigning a mid-term grade. Among the more interesting discussion involves the offensive line, a banged up linebacking group and a running game that’s starting to find their way. They also spend time handing out team and individual midseason awards, including perhaps a mild surprise at Best Defensive Player and a slight disagreement between the guys on the Bills worst game so far this season. Aaron also spends time elaborating on why he’s waiting for the Bills to go out and win a game that basically no one outside of the organization and fan base is expecting them. Before the football talk the guys have a rather passionate discussion about the ramifications and impact of the presidential election this week that as of podcast release time still hasn’t been officially decided. Both guys reveal who they voted for and why, the credit Donald Trump deserves whether people like it or not, why he very likely has lost the election and what expectations for Joe Biden will be over the next four years if he wins. Ep 264Aaron Quinn Talks Bills Ending Losing Skid
EOn this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran chats with recurring guest and cohost of Cover 1 Buffalo Podcast, Aaron Quinn about a variety of topics centered around the Buffalo Bills ending a two-game losing streak with an eight point victory on the road against the New York Jets this past Sunday. Featuring an offense that for better or worse led the Bills to four wins through their first six games, getting their fifth win ultimately fell on the shoulders of the defense at Met Life Stadium. The unit answered their bell and delivered far and away their most impressive performance of the season. Patrick and Aaron discuss Jerry Hughes’ best game of the season and arguably one of the best of his career, the impact that Matt Milano’s limited snap count had, Dane Jackson’s stellar debut at cornerback and much more on the defensive side of the ball. The offense moved the ball and had plenty of success but couldn’t produce a touchdown. Instead, Tyler Bass connected on six of eight field goal attempts. The guys examine some of the things that got Buffalo’s offense stuck in mud inside the red zone, Josh Allen’s afternoon’s, the situation at running back and appreciation for Cole Beasley. Ep 263Joe Miller, Overreaction Sports Podcast
EOn this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast presented by 26 Shirts, Patrick Moran has a chat with Overreaction Sports Podcast host Joe Miller on a variety of topics centered around the Buffalo Bills uninspiring Monday evening football loss at home to the Kansas City Chiefs. There’s no more debating whether the Bills defense has taken a decisive turn for the worse in 2020. Patrick and Joe try to figure out exactly why. One game after Ryan Tannehill lit the Bills up through the air, the Chiefs punished a physically dominated Buffalo defense to the tune of nearly 250 yards rushing on the ground. The guys have thoughts on Leslie Frazier’s schemes, lack of production from supposed young emerging stars like Tremaine Edmunds and Ed Oliver, mental meltdowns from leaders like Tre White and Jordan Poyer and a defensive line almost completely void of any pass rush over the last month. It’s not all roses and candy on the other side of the ball either. The guys discuss Josh Allen’s second consecutive subpar performance after a MVP worthy first month as well as Patrick thinking Devin Singletary’s days as the Bills featured back being numbered, the offensive line showing signs of regression, the tight end position being barely extinct and John Brown’s health becoming a significant concern. They also look at the big picture from both positive and negative perspectives and chime in on what the fortunes of the organization may look like going forward. They also spend time talking about podcasting, live shows, Buffalo during the fall and much more. Ep 262Ghost of Rex Ryan Has Infiltrated The Bills Defense
EOn this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick is joined by friend and recurring guest Joe from NYC for a discussion littered with strong takes on the heels of the Buffalo Bills first loss of the season this past Tuesday night in Tennessee to the undefeated Titans. Uncertainty surrounded the game happening from last week all the way through up to game day Tuesday as Covid ran rampant through the Titans organization over the past two weeks. However, despite the Titans practicing just twice over the past two weeks it was the Bills who often looked completely out of sorts. Patrick and Joe try to make sense of exactly why as the Titans clearly dominated in all three phases of the game as well as coaching and preparation. The guys spend a bunch of time bewildered about the Bills defense continuing to falter through five weeks of the 2020 season. They discuss Tremaine Edmunds doing what Patrick considers a pretty lousy job at middle linebacker and how much his injury or who’s playing in front of him is factoring in. They also discuss the ineffectiveness of the defensive line at generating sacks and pressure on quarterbacks, particularly Jerry Hughes, who is sackless and has just one tackle for a loss through five games. On the offensive side of the balls the guys agree that John Brown was missed significantly more than they thought he’d be. They also have takes on Devin Singletary, TJ Yeldon and if just one game does anything to diminish what Josh Allen has done so far this season. They also a few minutes discussing the professional wrestling business slipping further into irrelevancy, bad NFL analysts, Patrick looking forward to Troy Aikman coming to Buffalo next week and the reaction from a surprised Joe as he learns about an upcoming election podcast he’ll be a part of. However, Matt hasn’t been on the podcast since back on episode No. 210 back in early April and Patrick spends time learning how life’s been for Matt during these weird and often trying times, including a discussion of how radically different the job of being a NFL team beat reporter has changed in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. They also spend time talking about the Shout Buffalo Football podcast Matt has started with his “tag team” partner at NYup.com, Ryan Talbot. The Bills dominated the Los Angeles Rams for two and a half quarters on Sunday before blowing a 25-point lead and needing a last minute touchdown to move to 3-0 on the season. They also discuss how Stefon Diggs’ presence continues to have a positive impact on the entire offense, Brian Daboll’s masterclass of play calling and Devin Singletary having a big-time statement game with rookie Zack Moss out. They also discuss an ailing defense that has put together uncharacteristically mediocre performances. Injuries were an excuse in Miami but not Sunday at home. Joe has takes on his level of concern over it, including Tremaine Edmunds looking lost at times in the middle of the defense, the lack of a pass rush and examining how much slack the defense deserves because it was going against one of the league’s better offenses. They also spend some time talking Buffalo Sabres, including reaction from a series of tweets from NHL insider Bob McKenzie centered around reported Jack Eichel trade chatter and McKenzie’s statement that Eichel doesn’t want out right now but is clearly frustrated over five years of losing. Josh Allen looks like a very early NFL MVP candidate as offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is showing an abundance of confidence in putting games more on the arms and legs of his quarterback. Allen’s not doing it alone, however as Stefon Diggs has been arguably even better than anyone anticipated after joining Buffalo in a trade. Joe points out the chemistry between Allen and Diggs makes them look like they’ve played together for five years. There’s also praise for John Brown, Cole Beasley and an underrated offensive line as well as an adequate job by the defense that’s already been down three key starters through just two games. But it’s time to pump the brakes on purchasing home playoff game tickets just yet as the guys examine some holes in the Bills defense as things stand while also talking up the impressive slate of opponents the Bills face in the coming weeks. Joe offers a prediction for Sunday’s matchup with the Rams and also has takes on Tyrod Taylor and Skip Bayless. Following the segment, Patrick does his weekly Friday episode “Pat’s Picks” after going 11-4 against the spread last week and 20-9-1 through the first two weeks. Ep 255Kris Baker Talks Bills (and Sabres)
EOn this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a chat with Buffalo Sabres prospects analysis and for today, well-rounded sports media personality Kris Baker on a variety of topics involving the Sabres and the undefeated Buffalo Bills. The Bills have won both their games to begin the season with both wins coming at the expense of divisional rivals. Sunday was at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami as Buffalo was victorious behind the lights out performance for Josh Allen, who is ending debate from even the most harsh critics on whether he’s a legitimate franchise quarterback. Allen was fantastic in Miami as was the rest of the offense. The defense struggled minus key linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano but nonetheless made enough plays to help secure the victory. Patrick and Kris break the game down and provide plenty of insight and takes along the way. Of course, in the hockey world Buffalo made a significant trade last week, dealing forward Marcus Johansson to Minnesota in exchange for Eric Staal. Kris provides insight into the trade, how he thinks Staal will fit in and who his addition may benefit the most. The guys also look forward to the offseason coming up soon and what Kris is hoping to see the organization do. They also discuss Patrick watching high school football in Florida alongside plenty of fans and what that experience was like in this Covid-19 world, golf’s present and future, favorite TV shows and much more. Ep 253Good, Bad & Ugly — Bills Dominate The Jets
EOn this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, the Buffalo Bills dominated the New York Jets in their season opener and Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest Aaron Quinn from Cover 1 Buffalo podcast to discuss the good, bad and ugly of it all. Aaron returns to the show for a second straight week and there’s plenty to discuss on the heels of Buffalo’s 27-17 victory over the Jets in a game that frankly wasn’t as close as the final score indicates. The guys spending plenty of time discussing Josh Allen, who had a career-best passing game as well as 57 yards rushing and a touchdown but wasn’t without flaws. Aaron gives an honest assessment of his performance and why it’s time to learn to accept who he is as a quarterback and that today’s NFL is trending more towards guys like him. They also discuss the instant impact Stefon Diggs provided to the offense not just for himself but also for his teammates John Brown and Cole Beasley as well as the semi-surprise of Cody Ford opening the season at right guard with Darryl Williams at right tackle. The defense was solid and Patrick highlights two players in particular who had great season debuts— Mario Addison and one of Aaron’s favorite players, Trent Murphy. Murphy, who including last year’s playoff game has seven sacks over his last seven games as is playing well enough to keep second-round rookie A.J. Epenesa inactive. Not all went perfect for Buffalo even in victory, however, and the guys talk about Allen’s two ugly turnovers and a missed opportunity for a third touchdown pass as well as the struggles of the running game and a brutal career debut for kicker Tyler Bass. They wrap by discussing what they think they’ve learned about the team after one game, a look ahead to Miami next week and a peak around some of the more notable games around the NFL this past weekend. Of course, they also spend plenty of time talking about the Buffalo Bills on the heels of NFL cut down day. The guys then get into a discussion on how much things have changed today because of Covid-19 with respect to how people in his profession have to do their job. They also talk baseball as both Patrick and Sal are lifelong Yankee fans and lament the fact that the top players continue to consistently be injured, prompting Sal to conclude the Yankees get more injured than most NFL teams.
